“Hike up the mountain to the top, about 2 hours roundtrip and take in the view. Or just stroll along the river.”

Trail
“WANTASTIQUET MOUNTAIN Just across the Connecticut River from Brattleboro is this majestic mountain that gives downtown Brattleboro its green backdrop. Two unmarked trails start at the end of Mountain Rd. where you’ll find a small parking lot for hikers. One broad trail suitable for hiking and biking is a continuation of Mountain Rd; it stays low and follows the river. This trail is easy walking, often well-populated by hikers and dog walkers. The other trail is moderate to difficult with switchbacks 1.5 mi. to the summit with a spectacular vista of the town and the Connecticut and West River valleys. “For little ones, this beach at Lake Spofford is perfect. It has life guards, sand to play in, a roped in area for swimming and wading, a playground and a snack bar with changing rooms and flush toilets. It has sun all day and into the evening, but you can find shade, too. It takes 32 minutes to drive here from the cabin. However, the parking lot is big and next to the lake entrance. It costs money to enter. On a very hot day, this place can seem crowded for our neck of the woods.
