  • A charming place to stay. This lovely little house faces onto the river in a quiet lane that is very close to the town centre. Janine and her partner were there to greet us and the room had everything we needed and more. Breakfast was not included unless booked in advance (a point we missed but that was our fault) but there was a nice range of teas and coffee in our room and a welcome scone on arrival. Thank you both for welcoming us into your home!

    amanda2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Janine met my husband and I when we arrived for our two night stay and showed us where to park the car just along the road from their home, which was very convenient. We were served coffee in the lovely courtyard out the back, which was a great place to relax in. Janine and her husband Allan are the loveliest caring people and very welcoming and interesting to converse with. They provided lots of helpful information on activities in their area as well as pamphlets and maps. Everything that was listed in their description about their home was provided. We found their home to be very comfortable and warm, just like a home away from home for us with full use of the kitchen and lounge which we enjoyed. We absolutely loved the house and location opposite the river and being just a five minute walk to the main street was excellent. We enjoyed a very delicious meal at 'The Castle Bar' recommended by Janine. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if/when we visit the area again.

    Yvonne2016-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Janine's place it was a very comfortable andcozy room with in walking distance from the city centre. The communication went very well and we highly recommend it.

  • A delightful place to stay to explore Cockermouth and the Western Lake District. Located centrally , it is easy to access restaurants and shops by walking. Janine and Allan are wonderful hosts who gave us a warm and friendly welcome and who made us feel comfortable in their home. We were offered the use of their kitchen to make breakfast and they also offered us delicous speciality teas and organic coffee.

    Johan2017-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was a highlight of my trip. Janine and Allan were so incredibly helpful, even serving me fresh coffee upon my arrival after a day on the road. The room was comfortable, with everything I could possibly need. The hosts were most gracious and knowledgeable with great recommendations for restaurants, sights to visit and info of the area. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

    Lee2016-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Janine and Alan were very friendly and brilliant hosts. They gave us lots of advice of where to go to drink and eat and made us feel right at home. The room is cozy but has an en suite which is nice. They let us have full use of the kitchen, living room and patio which was excellent for cooking our own food and relaxing. Would highly recommend!

    Liam2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Our hosts were very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. It was like a home from home. Cosy , comfortable room with lots of extra touches . Great location and very close to all amenities , restaurants, shops etc.

  • We were made to feel extremely welcome with a bottle of fizz and sweets for the kids. The hosts had been really helpful with information and had also made us an extra bed for our younger daughter. The house was beautifully clean and spacious with everything we needed. We enjoyed the location with easy access to amazing scenery and had great walks near buttermere and crummock and from the lal ratty railway.

    Gina2016-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • The host made us feel extremely welcome, messaging us just before arrival with all details on how to access the property. When we arrived we were welcomed with tea, coffee, local plum bread and even a bottle of prosecco left in the kitchen to enjoy. The house was immaculately clean on arrival, really tastefully decorated and well equipped for cooking and relaxing! We had a lovely time staying at this property, only a short walk from the lovely town of Cockermouth and located in a safe neighbourhood. If you want to explore the fells they are only a short drive.

  • This place is absolutely fantastic. It's set in a residential neighborhood, less than 10 mins walk from the pubs and restaurants of Cockermouth and a great gateway to the Lake District National Park. The house itself is very bright and comfortable, extremely clean and comfortable. The kitchen and dining area is superb, and you can do some great cooking with the range of utensils and cookware provided! We were welcomed with some local plum bread and there are a few staples as well - coffee, tea, sugar, salt, pepper and a little olive oil. They also have a washer and dryer which are FABULOUS if you hike in the rainy weather (like we did) and end up getting much on all your clothes! Definitely recommend this place as a lovely and cozy place to be your base on a Lake District adventure! Thanks for everything Michelle and Steve :)

Further afield the historic city of Carlisle ,Gretna Green, the Southern Lake District and the UNESCO World heritage site of Hadrians wall can be reached in around 1 hour by car.
  • The cottage was really cosy, well equipped and the perfect size for a couple (and a small dog). Howard and Jen were really helpful both before and during our stay from Howard's hand drawn map to help us find the cottage to Jen's delicious homemade shortbread! The village is really well placed to explore the Lake District and Cumbrian coast although a car is probably a necessity (luckily there is plenty of parking space outside the cottage). Overall we had an excellent stay and would thoroughly recommend this property and hosts.

  • We had a fantastic weekend away at La'al Cottage. A lovely little cottage with some wonderful personal touches and the hosts were friendly and on hand for anything we needed.

    Anya2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage , very well presented , fantastically clean . The hosts were lovely and helpful and easy to get in contact with from the minute the reservation was made. Only thing want to make people aware is there is a skylight above the stairs into the bedroom with no curtain so as soon as the sun is up the room is very light.

    Jolie2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lot of issues getting my first airbnb experience sorted out, thankfully Howard was far more helpful and faster to respond than airbnb themselves, Eventually getting myself all verified etc and meeting Howard he couldnt have been more welcoming showed me where to go an let me get to the house myself and get unpacked an settled, first walk in you have a letter on a tray with lots of home made gifts bread short bread butter and a local bitter, and a voucher for the first beer at the local pub! Really taken away with the hospitality here, was extended an invitation to the local pub with Howard and some friends and made to feel really welcome and had a great laugh with them Beautiful home to stay and the most helpful and kind host I shall return next time I'm in the area!

    Gordon2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • We've rated 5stars for la'al cottage as it was worth the five stars! Certainly felt like home...clean, comfortable, cosy and good value for money. Definitely worth visiting again. Howard and Jen were very welcoming and thoughtful as at point we were stuck on the motorway on our way there and they were so patient with us as we arrived 3 hrs later than scheduled. Howard had been in touch with us most of the time to see if we were ok. He's such a kind person! I(Axa) had a surprise birthday cake ready when we arrived too which stole my heart. We'd like to thank both Howard and Jen for the wonderful experience we had in Lake District.

  • Lovely, well presented and modern cottage in a quiet village and in easy reach of the lakes and main towns via car. The hosts Jen and Howard were both very friendly, we were given great travel advice from Howard and we turned up to a very personal greeting from Jen. There were some lovely touches to our arrival including home made bread, chutney and shortbread, alongside eggs and milk. We visited Cumbria from Somerset to visit old friends, the accommodation made our visit extra special and enjoyable. We would highly recommend this cottage and look forward to visiting again ourselves.

    Hannah2017-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first time using Airbnb, and I was really impressed. From the start, Howard was very friendly and helpful with recommendations and directions, and the cottage was absolutely beautiful. We had a fantastic stay for our first wedding anniversary. The cottage is perfectly appointed, with everything you could possibly need- Howard and Jen really have thought of everything, and the little touches like the tin of dog treats for our pup were fantastic. I and my husband would not hesitate to book with Howard and Jen again, and probably will in the not too distant future.

Great Broughton is just outside the lovely town of Cockermouth and is in a perfect location for exploring the northern Lakes. Everyone we met in the village was really friendly; the local bakery was great for breakfast baps, pies, cakes and sandwiches. The Punch Bowl pub was nice and very welcoming. There is also a well-stocked post office/store just across the road. Highly recommended and we will definitely stay here again! Thank you so much!

Great Broughton is well situated being only a ten minute drive from Cockermouth which is full of a variety of restaurants, take aways and excellent pubs. Also has supermarkets - Sainsbury's and Aldi - as well as lots of lovely little shops and brilliant coffee shops. Can highly recommend the Moon and Sixpence and Coffee Kitchen as well as Merienda - all sell fantastic coffee and wonderful cakes!! Great Broughton itself has a wonderful community run pub - The Punch Bowl - serves very well kept cask ales, lots of different gins and is also very very friendly.

Come and stay in our old coal miner's cottage. Your sunny bedroom is up the steep stairs, tucked under the eaves with a view over the slate roofs towards the Lake District Fells. All ingredients provided for a full DIY breakfast.
Canary Cottage is one of a short row of coal miners' cottages dating from the mid 1800's when Great Clifton was a colliery. The cobbled lane outside used to be the main way through from the fields to the farm yard for the cows. The lane now leads onto the village playing field with views over pasture and woods towards the sea. Your bedroom has tea-making facilities and free wifi. We do not have a TV but you are welcome to borrow from our many books if you want to spend time alone quietly.
Nearby - Fantastic scenery, coastal walks, historic houses, industrial heritage, C to C cycle. Set between mountains and coast the village of Great Clifton is an ideal place from which to explore everything! The Lake District National Park is only 6 miles away, and the sea side 4 miles. The charming market towns of Cockermouth (Wordsworth's birthplace) and Keswick (markets Thursday and Saturday) are easily accessible. The Northern Fells, Bassenthwaite Lake, Wild Ennerdale, Borrowdale and Skiddaw have walks and wildlife in abundance and more sheep than people. Whinlatter Forest has breathtaking mountain bike routes. The less well known coastline features historic ports of Workington, Whitehaven, (Rum Story) Maryport (Roman garrison) and wild beaches stretching North to the Solway Firth (winter waders). Nearby attractions include Maryport Aquarium, Wordsworth House NT, Lakes Distillery, Jennings Beer, Honister Slate Mine, Florence Coal Mine, and the Wool Clip at Caldbeck, Or you could just take a ramble from the front door down to the peaceful banks and footbridge over the River Derwent.

  • Barbara was great company and an amazing host. She's funnny and cheery and I enjoyed having interesting conversations with her. She was very reliable and helped me out when I was stuck (twice) and suggested things to do and places to go. I enjoyed my stay in the Lake District and the house was always clean, the room was cosy and the area is close to amazing views and buses to explore surrounding areas. I would highly recommend the place.

  • Barbara is a fantastic person! She is very welcoming and she shared some of her incredible adventures with me for example her travels around Australia and NZ. If you have the chance to be her guest I would 100% recommend her.

The Croft is a beautiful cottage in the heart of town, overlooking the river and a short walk from the shops, pubs, restaurants and other amenities. It is a luxurious, well equipped base from which to explore the Lake District. We welcome all visitors, their children and pets.
The cottage has been equipped to provide everything you need for a comfortable home from home including Wi-Fi, TV, books of local interest, hairdryer, dog bed and bowls, travel cot and high chair.
Cockermouth is the birthplace of William Wordsworth and his house, now run by the National Trust, is nearby. The cottage has lovely views over the River Cocker and Church to the rear. It overlooks the Bowling Green at the front. You can take a pleasant stroll along the river to Harris Park, a great place to walk the dog! The nearest supermarket is 200m away and there are many pubs selling Real Ale in the locality. Try a pint of Jennings, brewed in the town, it is highly recommended. The beautiful lakes of Buttermere, Crummock Water, Loweswater and Bassenthwaite are all just a short drive away, as is the Solway Coast.
  • Just returned from 3 nights at Kim's place and everything was perfect. The cottage is beautiful, clean and well equipped and a great home from home for your stay. Such thoughtful little touches such as the robes and the extra toiletries if you need. Great location just 2 mins walk from the centre of town with plenty of shops and pubs and great to overlook the river. 20 to 30 mins away the lovely scenic walks of Buttermere and Derwent Water and the town of Keswick which were great for tiring out our dogs during the day - the fact that the cottage is pet friendly was amazing and our fur babies had the most wonderful time :) Can't recommend Kim's place highly enough and would love to return.

  • Kim's cottage on the river in central Cockermouth is an absolute joy! Her attention to detail (bath robes and slippers, maps, umbrella, instructions for the tv remote! to name a few) - priceless. It couldn't be more central being 5 min walk to town centre: lovely independent shops, cafes and restaurants a plenty, and for those who wish for a supermarket shop: Sainsbury, Coop on the door step - and Aldi 1m on Low Road. Do visit the Skylark studios for a little gift (South St) or, Indigo Boutique - to treat yourself! Spoilt for choice for eateries. We used so many but, if you require a Chinese take a way, walk to Sainsburys and on your right is a good specimen (next to an Indian!). So much to see and do - take your pick! The folks of Cockermouth are extremely warm and friendly. Millars Park and Harris Park a lovely gentle stroll. Kim is available for any issues although we had none. Wi-fi, tv, phones all good. ENJOY!

  • We had a lovely weekend in Kim's cottage.quiet area with shops, restaurants, and next to the river, close to everything in lake district. The house was amazing, much better than we thought, well equipped, with a lot of maps, and (URL HIDDEN) the most important thing for us,dog friendly. We would love to go back again! Thanks for everything

  • Really lovely little house. Great location just off the main high street, with a nice view over the river. Kim was a great host and we were able to check in early to fit in with our plans. Wish we could have stayed longer!

    Hannah2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a cosy and welcoming place. There's nothing that Kim hasn't thought of in terms of comfort, cleanliness and convenience. We have seen a few Airbnb places during our travels around the UK; this has been a favourite. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

Masons Farm is a smallholding, close to Keswick, Cockermouth and the Western Lake District. The barn is recently converted, with original beams and big, light rooms, underfloor heating and a woodburning stove. You will have your own access, separate kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine, and bathroom with both walk-in shower and bath. It's all on one floor, with wide doorways, so could be used with a wheelchair. The perfect place for couples, C2C cyclists and business travellers.
Little Clifton is a small village just off the A66, with a pub (The Duke of Cumberland) serving real ale (but not food unless you count pickled eggs) and a post office. We are 12 minutes drive from Cockermouth and 25 minutes from the centre of Keswick, towns where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets etc; the nearest mainline rail stations are Carlisle and Penrith. We are perfectly placed for exploring the Northern and Western Lake District, and the Solway coast, whilst the central fells and tourist towns of the South Lakes can be reached within the hour.
  • Sue was very welcoming and hospital. She makes the place feels like home away from home, with fresh flowers from her garden, home made jam and fresh duck eggs from her barn. The accomodation was clean, tidy, spacious and lots of facilities. It was very comfortable. We would love to return again in the future. We recommend this place to other guests.

  • Perfect! This is such a fantastic place to stay, great accommodation and made to feel like a home away from home with extra special little touches set out by Sue. She is super! Cannot praise this place enough. I want to live here!

  • First class property, great communication, enthusiastic welcome and support with minor hiccups. If you are looking for peace and quiet in very stylish surroundings this is for you!

    Alister2017-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • What an excellent place to stay! The barn was beautiful and Sue was really lovely. I'll definitely be back. The whole place was well equipped, with towels, games and even some gorgeous food from Sue's garden! The village was lovely to walk around, with a little river and a wooded are to walk through. The nearby pub doesn't do food though, so is a 20 minute walk to hotel nearby to get someone else to make your food. The kitchen is so nice to cook in though, so didn't really bother us. Thanks Sue! We'll see you again!

  • My wife and I Just spent 3 nights in this lovely and cosy home. Can't fault it. Sue & Keith (& lily) couldn't have been more welcoming. From here we went to walk up scafell pike. A nice evening meal in Cockermouth. And a good day out at Derwent waters. Will book again when we come back. Thank you Sue & Keith.

  • Masons Farm was everything it was described to be - and more! The barn was immaculately clean and well equipped! Even had board games to play in front of the wood burner. Sue is very helpful & friendly - we hope to return sometime next year. There are plenty of beautiful walks, heritage locations & hearty pub lunches nearby. A tranquil getaway indeed!

    Caspian2017-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Masons Farm is a beautiful barn conversion which has been restored to an extremely high standard. We enjoyed a very comfortable couple of days, no where near long enough though, in the most wonderful place. The wood burner & under floor heating were perfect for a slightly cool June evening! The kitchen has everything you need, (we enjoyed some lovely home grown strawberries) & the bathroom has a superb shower. Sue is a great host, very friendly & chatty & we enjoyed our walk round her beautiful garden. Thanks for that Sue! Will certainly be returning to Masons Farm & to this part of Cumbria very soon. Cockermouth was a lovely surprise, great town with lots of nice coffee shops, restaurants & local gift & craft shops. Would highly recommend Mason's Farm.

  • Karen was a great host with recommendations and quick to respond to questions. The town is quaint and limited options for food at night, but a pub and bakery very close by. The house was nicely done and we enjoyed our stay.

    Deanna2017-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in this well presented cottage. It felt like a real home from home. Bread and milk were provided which was lovely and all the kitchenware you would need was to hand. It was a good location for us to explore the Lakes and climb Scafell Pike. It was easy to find and to check in and out and both Jamie and Karen checked in on us to make sure we were happy. Wifi was a little tricky to get on to so I wouldn't advise trying to work from there and the only other potential issue is if more than 2 people stay as there's only space to dine 2 at the kitchen table, but we had the place to ourselves so it was perfect. I would highly recommend staying here!

    Georgina2017-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Karen & Jamie are friendly & responsive hosts. The bright & cheery cottage is beautifully remodeled, clean & modern with high-end furnishings & decor. The kitchen was well equipped & perfect. We appreciated the clothes washer too. The beds are comfortable & fitted with nice linens. The bath tub was a plus in the modern bathroom. The quaint village is quiet & close to the Lake District attractions, including a great bike park. It was just far enough away from the crowded tourist towns, perfect for relaxing after busy days exploring! We'd highly recommend the Baker's cottage when visiting the Lake District.

  • Lovely house, very high standard throughout. Good location, very close to the lakes and with a bakery 2 doors down.

    Louise2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful cottage in a stunning location; the pictures do not do it justice. Furthermore, definitely recommend the pies from the bakery - yum! Thank you Karen and Jamie (especially Karen who was so so lovely and helpful when we had to ring her.)

    Stephanie Lambert2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • 4 of us stayed at Karen's place and it was one of the best airbnb experience. Have no complains about the Accomodation. Everything was perfect. Breakfast (Bread, butter, coffee and Tea) is provided. If you are planning to drive here it will definitely worth it. If you are taking public transports it might be quite troublesome on Sundays. No buses and taxis only available after 9.30 or 10 in the morning. Otherwise, Cockermouth Main Street is an hour by foot and buses are available on sundays from Cockermouth Main Street.

The Hayloft is converted from a 17th century barn with lofted ceilings and exposed stone walls. It has a king-size bed and is equipped with fridge, freezer, microwave, washer/dryer, colour TV, DVD/CD player, vacuum cleaner, central heating and a power shower over the bath. Linen and towels are included along with blankets and duvet. Sleeps two people. A small sofa bed, in the lounge, can sleep a third person ( there is a surcharge of £8 per night when additional linen is provided for sofa bed.
Redmain is a peaceful rural hamlet, set within the Lake District National Park, two miles from the market town of Cockermouth and ten miles from Keswick. The Solway Coast with it's long sandy beaches and bracing walks is also only a ten minute drive away Windermere and Ambleside are less than an hour's drive, and you can also be in Scotland within the hour. The Hayloft viewed from the lawn Redmain House dates from the 1690’s and is a traditional Cumbrian long house with attached stone barns from which the holiday cottage has been converted to a high standard, whilst retaining many original features. Close by are some of the Western lakes most imposing fells - Skiddaw, Grassmoor, Red Pike, High Stile and Grisedale Pike. The Western lakes include Bassenthwaite Lake with Sailing Club and Osprey view point, Loweswater for rowing and walking, Derwentwater for kayaking, boat rides and island hopping, Buttermere for walking and sheer beauty and Crummock Water. The jewel in the wild crown is Ennerdale, superb biking and walking and getting away from the crowds and home to the famous Pillar Rock and Steeple. If you don’t fancy walking the big hills take time to visit the Solway Coast, area of outstanding natural beauty, with long sandy beaches and beautiful views across the Solway Firth towards the Scottish Hills.
  • Super easy to deal with, perfect little home from home. Would stay again.

  • Brilliant property. It was exactly as described, clean and had everything one could need for a comfortable stay. The garden is beautiful and adds to the staying experience. The location of the property suited us as we wanted to explore the northern and western areas of the lake district. Its about 7 mins by car from Cockermouth where all facilities are available. Julie and her family are very welcoming and hospitable. Overall, I would highly recommend this airbnb.

    Syed Saad2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our stay! The perfect size for a couple and had everything we needed to cook and clean. The apartment was within driveable distance for all of the major northern LD hikes. It's also only 30 minutes from the coast! I hope we can come back here again.

    Ryan2017-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our two night stay at the Hayloft. The appartment was spacious with a very comfortable bed, plenty of hot water, good wifi and off road parking. The gardens are well cared for and are situated in a very quiet area. Altogether a trouble free experience.

    Michael2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • The Loft is so spacious, clean and comfortable, with every amenityh including washing machin /dryer. Redmain is quite isolated, but the surrounding walks and views are wonderful.

    sue2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Situated in a quiet, rural hamlet a few minutes from Cockermouth, The Hayloft is every bit as good as the photos portray and is set in a beautiful garden. It was spotlessly clean and well maintained. A problem with the shower was quickly sorted, for instance. Even the wifi was good, which was a pleasant surprise. Julie and Nick are excellent hosts and made me feel very welcome. I would certainly recommend The Hayloft to anyone looking for a quiet holiday but within easy reach of the excellent walking in the north western lakes and fells.

    Des2017-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay at Julie's place...quiet and secluded, comfy and clean - the perfect getaway! Cosy living space and the comfiest bed - perfect after a day walking up skiddaw in the rain! Would most certainly visit again.

  • Paul is a 5 star host. He's super attentive & hospitable. Excellent location. Walking steps to really cool local spots & transportation. Although welcoming it's a bit difficult to unpack & make yourself at home so to speak. The space is a bit cramped for a house guest. If a rustic, simple adventure is what you have in mind it's the perfect spot.

18th century hill farmhouse with character and superb views stretching from the Vale of Lorton to the Scottish mountains. Wonderful walking at all levels, mountain biking in Whinlatter, dog friendly, good wifi, very peaceful, & there's a hot tub available! Keswick 8 miles
The Vale of Lorton is definitely one of the Lake District's hidden gems - only 8 miles from Keswick yet so peaceful and off the beaten track. There are superb walks here at all levels - from the high peaks of the Grasmoor and Buttermere fells to beautiful lake shore paths. Meanwhile, the trails in nearby Whinlatter put the 'mountain' back into mountain biking! The Farmhouse is the largest of the 3 High Swinside holiday cottages. It has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 9 people in 7-9 separate beds (you tell me in advance how you want them made up). Built in 1741, most of its rooms have lovely oak beams and other original features. From the entrance hall with boot racks and coat hooks you enter the dining room with a pine dresser and long farmhouse table. The kitchen is open plan to the dining room and is well-equipped with cooker, hob, microwave, washing machine, dish washer & fridge/freezer. (Additional shared laundry facilities include a tumbler drier & a large chest freezer if needed). The sitting room has comfortable 3-seater sofas arranged around a tv/dvd and open fire (logs and coal are included). From the front-facing window there is a stunning view across the Lorton valley to Low Fell. One of the twin bedrooms is also on this floor and has access through the kitchen to a shower room with an electric shower. Upstairs there are three more bedrooms. Two of them are large front-facing bedrooms with beautiful views: a family room with a superking & a single bed (which can also be made up as 3 singles); and a double bedroom with a superking bed that can be made up as twin beds, and which will have an ensuite shower room by 2018. The third bedroom on this floor is a pretty twin room with a sloping ceiling and a little cottage window facing towards the fellside behind the house. All the beds in the Farmhouse have comfortable pocket-sprung mattresses. The family bathroom with its sloping beamed ceiling has a bath with a hand-held shower attachment. Bath towels can be provided.
Lorton is a serene and unspoilt Lakeland valley that has remained largely off the beaten track despite its charm and proximity to Keswick and Cockermouth. The walking is excellent - with open fell access on the high Grasmoor fells behind the house, and beautiful walks at all levels throughout the Vale. See the captions under the photos for more idea of how much there is to do and see here, or if you search: high swinside diana you can see more walking and activities information on my site.
  • Diana made us feel very welcome and went above and beyond with looking after us during our stay. The house was in a beautiful location, very clean and well looked after. Would definitely recommend staying here! The four of us really enjoyed ourselves and would definitely like to come back again next year!

    Josh2016-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fab holiday in High Lorton. Great location with beautiful views out of the bedroom windows and from the hot tub. Diana was a very accommodating host with great knowledge of local walks.

    Sarah2017-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • My Friends and I (we were 8 adults) had an absolutes wonderful stay at Diana's place! Not only was she very responsive and detailed in our communication prior our trip, but she also gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel at home straight away! The region is beautiful to discover - and Diana's home is perfectly located for those who want to be remote and relax or also experience the region with hikes. The house is super cosy, very British style, with a bunch of different bedrooms and a very lovely common living room and kitchen. Everything is very practical and in place for us to have a lovely stay. We had the chance to enjoy the hot tub outside as well wach was really unforgettable experience. These are located right at the top of The Valley, offering us the most stunning view of all, while bathing in hot water. Diana is a very good host, knows how to make you comfortable, you can tell she has already some experience in hosting! We will definitely come back to stay at Diana's!!

    Cecile2017-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Our time at the farmhouse was wonderful. Right from the the start we were made to feel very welcome by Diana, by the time we left 5 days later it was sad to say goodbye to her. Diana is very warm and helpful without being intrusive. As far as the setting, it couldn't be more beautiful. Being high on the side of the valley the view is breathtaking. The local villages are easily accessible by walking and car. The farmhouse itself is very lovely. It was very comfortable with all of the charm of it's era. The beds were very comfortable and the whole place was very well presented. One of the highlights for me was the wood fired hot tub; sitting in there looking out over that vista was very relaxing. All in all an amazing time that will, I hope etched in my memory for the rest of my life. Although we'd love to return one day. Thanks Diana

    Warren2016-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • I HIGHLY recommend Diana's farmhouse for people wanting to get away from it all, but still have all the home comforts, and more! The house is perfectly described in the listings and Diana was so friendly and helpful from the moment we booked to the moment we left (food delivery help, tour of the house, making sure we had everything we needed). The open fire in the living room was a welcome comfort after a day in the mountains, the kitchen had everything you needed and comfortably sat everyone (8 of us) for group meals, the hot tub was such a treat, and all the bedrooms were clean and comfortable. Diana helped us with her local knowledge of the trails, so our long weekend of exploring was well planned out. We were sad to leave, but can't wait to go back!

    Marie2016-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Diana's cottages are absolutely fantastic. A home from home in a lovely secluded corner of the Lake District. We totally fell in love with this place and have already booked in for next year! We stayed in the big farmhouse which was spacious and comfortable for our party of 6 adults and 2 children. Particular highlights were the lovely views from the two main bedrooms, the lush super king size bed in the family room, the huge dining table that seats 9 with plenty of elbow room, and the extensive shared garden complete with hot tubs, treehouse, chickens and space for campfires. There's absolutely tons to do in the area with plenty of gentle walks (we enjoyed low fell, rannerdale knots and longthwaite hill), more advanced fells (whiteside, grasmoor), the delights of crummock water and loweswater, climbing at shepherd's in bordowdale and mountain biking etc. In whinlatter Forrest. And of course you can finish every day in the hot tub surrounded by the most beautiful views. Dianna is the perfect host and really helped to make our holiday special. She's a mine of local information and always on hand to offer advice and answer questions. In sum, you won't be disappointed if you book this place for your next holiday. The location is fantastic, the views are to die for and the accommodation itself is luxurious with lots of little extras that help to make a holiday really special and one that you will remember for a long time.

  • Our stay at High Swinside was a great way to end our trip in the UK. It truly is out in the countryside of Lake District with no one else around. The views are incredible and it is so peaceful and relaxing there. There are many trails for some countryside walking. It is also a great location to explore the Lake District from if you have a car. There are three cottages right by each other, but they are private so we were never disturbed by the neighbors. We stayed in the Farmhouse which is the biggest one. The beds were comfortable and there was enough bedding to keep us warm at night. The kitchen is well stocked with everything we needed to cook our meals. Diana was great. She lives in a separate cottage just a few steps away and is always there if you need her. We had a few issues occur, but she was quick to remedy them and we could tell that she really cared that we had a nice stay which was much appreciated. She was so great with our kids, letting them help her look for eggs (there are chickens) and answering all their questions. She gave great suggestions for some things to do locally. We absolutely loved staying here and really want to come back here again someday.

    Chaundell2017-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time here. The location is amazing, such a fantastic view. The hot tub was great too. The house can be improved with a bit more work, but this is a minor thing. Diana's friend Marian was there when we first arrived, and she helped us settle in, she's a very friendly person. Make sure you know when the heating comes on, as it went off too early for us, which meant it was a bit cold on the first night. Once this was changed it was fine though. Overall this is a lovely cottage , a great location and a helpful host! Would recommend.

  • Great location in the town, very quick walk to the center of town. Parking was easy and close. Space was very clean and well maintained and has had recent upgrades which make the old space feel modern. Check in and out was a breeze, Jan was very helpful. The only reason that I would hesitate to recommend it is if someone in your group has mobility issues. The stairs are tight and small and I would be concerned if I knew those would be an issue. Otherwise, go for it!

    Jason2017-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Jan's place is ideally located with only a short stroll to town centre & pubs/restaurants etc. Jan & his wife are great hosts willing to help out with any requests. The stairs aren't for the faint-hearted. Cockermouth is a good place to use as base when exploring the Lakes District. Highly recommend.

  • This was a perfect first stop off whilst doing the Coast 2 Coast cycle route. Lovely accommodation right in the heart of beautiful Cockermouth. wished we had been staying longer! Safe bike storage an added bonus. Thank you Jan.

  • Jan is a fantastic host: very friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone. There is nearby free parking further up the street and the shops are a close walk away.

  • Jan was helpful and friendly. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. The only issue we had, which is not the hosts fault, was parking. Very enjoyable stay.

  • I've had a good stay. The room was clean and cosy, and Rachel was a very gentle host. Recommended

    Domenico2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is a typical, slightly old fashioned English B&B. Rachel, the host is welcoming, chatty and friendly and a mine of local information- very interesting to talk to. The beds are comfortable and the breakfast selection is good. I would recommend.

    Josephine2017-05-02T00:00:00Z

  • I've stayed here before and would again. Rachel is a very friendly host. Very good value and nice to try the Swiss breakfast. Just the job if you want a value stay in Cockermouth

  • Me and my girlfriend has an excellent few days in Rachel's B and B. We stayed in the upstairs en suite from that was a very well put together room. Rachel as a host was brilliant, we rarely got up before 10am, but she ensured that the table was always laid for breakfast and food was available to us. She is a very nice lady, and has a lot of knowledge of the surrounding area, if she is unsure she'll go out of her way to find the information for you. Highly recommended.

    Sam2015-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, just off the main Street. Lovely room with en suite and mini kitchen area and a secure garage for our bikes. Rachel was a very friendly and helpful host! Thanks!

    Thomas2017-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was fine. Rachel was very kind and thoughtful. Rachel took a lot of trouble to make us feel welcome. Breakfast was excellent and hearty. For anyone looking for a simple no frills accommodation with easy access to the lakes it is a good choice.

Former farm-worker's cottage with many period features and log burner - sleeps 2-5 including a comfortable ensuite double bedroom. Wood-fired hot tub available (please ask). Dog friendly. Good wifi. Hillside setting gives fabulous views over Lorton Vale. Very peaceful. Easy access to great walks at all levels from lake shore paths to the high Grasmoor and Buttermere fells. Excellent mountain biking in nearby Whinlatter Forest. Keswick 8 miles. Cockermouth 6 miles.
High Swinside Cottage is one of 3 cottages at High Swinside perched on the slopes of Swinside fell overlooking the beautiful and peaceful Lorton Valley. The Vale of Lorton is definitely one of the Lake District's hidden gems. High Swinside Cottage was built as a farm worker's cottage attached to High Swinside Farm. It is full of original features with lovely old oak beams and the occasional sloping floor! From the entrance hall with a bench, hooks, & boot storage, you enter the comfortable living room with sofa and armchairs, woodburning stove, and satelite tv/dvd. The living room spans the cottage with windows to the front and rear. The well-equipped kitchen leads off the living room at the front of the cottage with a dining area at one end and views towards the valley. The kitchen has stove & hob, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment (a washing machine, tumbler drier, and big chest freezer are also available in the nearby basement). Stairs lead up from the living room to 3 bedrooms and the family bathroom. The large ensuite double bedroom is beautifully beamed and has two windows - once looking south to the Grasmoor fells, the other - a small bay window - looking northeast towards Swinside fell and Whinlatter. This bedroom has a good-sized ensuite shower room. Two further bedrooms - a twin and a single - look towards Whinlatter or across the Lorton valley. There is also a family bathroom shared by these two room.
Lorton is a serene and unspoilt Lakeland valley that has remained largely off the beaten track despite its charm and proximity to Keswick and Cockermouth. The walking is excellent - with open fell access to the high Grasmoor fells behind the house, and beautiful walks at all levels throughout the Vale - including around the 3 lakes of Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater. To the north lies the Solway Firth within easy reach - offering windsurfing and kite buggying, nature reserves, and dog-friendly beaches. See the captions under the photos for more idea of how much there is to do and see here, or if you search: 'high swinside diana' you can see more walking and local activities information on my own site.
  • Great stay! Very rural, so expect that. Basic amenities, normal and even upgraded for a country cottage, but has everything you need. A little dark and not great views from the main living quarters, but you'll be spending most time out of doors anyway. We loved Diana and the kids had the most fun here of any place we've stayed. Great family adventure!

    Misty2016-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for 2 nights at Diana's cottage and really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is in a secluded location down narrow country lanes, but then offers wonderful views across the valley and the hills. We loved the quietness, the beautiful bird life and the genteel country air. The cottage is nicely old-fashioned, but very comfortable and well equipped. We particularly enjoyed the views from every window, the wood burning stove, and the hot tub. Diana was lovely - very easy to communicate with, and lovely to chat to each day about the cottage and surrounding countryside. We would stay again for sure.

    James2017-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect spot if you want to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Lake District. An easy walk to the village and any number of fells or it is located just up the hillside to provide an immense view of the valley and surrounding hills from the lawn.

    Martyn2017-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy cottage in beautiful surroundings. We had the most horrible weather (thanks storm Doris!!) but we were toasty warm thanks to the log burner and it did not stop us enjoying the fabulous wood fired hot tub, thanks to Diane braving the wind and rain to light it and keep it going. Beds were comfortable and cottage had everything needed for a lovely break. Highly recommended.

    Val2017-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • A great cottage, awesome views, cozy, spacious and the added bonus of a hot tub! Perfect to watch the sun setting over the mountains. Diana is very friendly and helpful, just a lovely place!

  • Our stay at High Swinton Cottages was the highlight of our three weeks in the U.K. Diana was an immensely helpful and fun-to-talk to host, the cottage itself was extremely comfortable, the walks were magnificent, and the views from the hot tub in the evening just couldn't have been lovelier. Sincerely hope we can get back.

    Steve2017-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely location either access to high fells via Hopegill Head, and the charming and overlooked gem of Low Fell all from the door. The Wheatsheaf is a good walk away but worth it for good food. The cottage itself is well equipped, has comfy beds and is warm with a woodburner for those mid season evenings. Thank you Diana for being a most welcoming and helpful host, and for having us for a long weekend - the lags can't do a whole week any more

    Yvonne2016-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Diana's High Swinside Cottages are terrific. The best ever. You just won't believe the view you have of the valley below. Really inspiring. And Diana is accommodating in every way, and truly interested in making your journey a success. Like fresh eggs from her own hens, and an amazing Swedish hot tub overlooking the valley. Five stars in every way. I'd give it six stars if they let me :-)

  • I arrived fairly late in the evening, but Clare had arranged for me to get the keys to the flat without any problems. Flat is on top floor, with lift to the 3rd floor and then stairs to to 2 flats. Room/flat is clean and bed comfortable, good wifi connection. Good communications with Clare prior to my arriving, and although our face to face conversation was short because I was tired and had to leave early in the morning, I felt that Clare was kind and understanding host. I had a good experience at Clare's.

  • We spent three nights at Rose cottage and enjoyed it very much. Rose Cottage is very well kept and clean and was plenty spacious for the two of us. The kitchen is well supplied with equipment for preparing meals and/or snacks. Susan and Paul were very kind and made sure to check on us to see if we needed anything while still giving us our privacy. The location was excellent for roaming about in the Lakes District and over to the coast. The two local pubs were both very good, and other options for meals were only a few minutes away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage. Thank you, Susan and Paul, for your hospitality.

  • It's a great apartment above a small quite country pub with amazing views. There is plenty of parking, three really good size bedrooms and adequate bathroom and a spacious kitchen diner not to mention a huge living room with some great original features. We ate in the pub on our last night and can honestly say we would highly recommend both the food and the ales. This was a brilliant spot for our first visit to the Lake District and allowed us to explore the area. Would certainly recommend to friends.

  • Lovely flat about 20 mins from Keswick and Buttermere. Above a pub but not loud at all and the food there is great! People were all welcoming and respected our privacy, though be aware that the bathroom is outside of the lockable flat and close to the back of the pub if this would bother you. Overall a great place to stay!

  • We had a fantastic few days at High Lorton. Diana's little cottage is perfect for 2 people, with gorgeous views from the patio room looking out over the fells. Diana is a very caring hostess, making herself available for questions and any help we needed. The location in the Northern Lakes is remote enough to feel like you've escaped the tourists, but still close enough to pubs and shops if you need them. We did 2 fantastic walks, the links on Diana's web site provide some great suggestions for all kinds of rambles. The 2 nearest pubs do good food, the closest, The Wheat sheaf is walkable - 30 mins, including a wobbly bit of path. Alternatively the Kirkstile Inn is a 15 min drive away is does excellent food. Book ahead! We particularly enjoyed the hot tub with the smell of burning wood, the beautiful views and the therapeutic soak for aching muscles. Even better at night in the dark when it's raining and the owls are hooting! My husband is planning a return trip with his road bike and bringing the extended family for walks, rock climbing and paintballing (all are pretty close). A perfect spot for rest & recuperation, or adventure & activity, or even both!

    Kathryn2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • The cottages were great. The location, though a little away from the Keswick mayhem, is in a beautiful location. Great views. Diana was a very kind host and has maintained the cottages very well. She's been very helpful with the places to visit around and has been a great host.

  • Beautiful, cozy, tranquil and breathtaking!! For those wanting to get away from their busy lifestyles and immerse in some beautiful scenery, stunning nature walks and relaxe in an unbelievable hot tub! - this is the holiday for you! Car non-essential, but make sure to grab all supplies nessessary before. The cottage has everything you need; a log fire, patio breakfast room, kitechnette for those who love to cook, friendly chickens roaming the area and the ever so popular hot tub - all to ourselves!!!!!!! The closest pub, Wheatsheaf does gorgeous food (open 6) and the village shop is extremely minimal. If you take a walk down near Crummock Lake, we recommend The Kirkside Inn who offer and tasty lunch or dinner after a long walk and a well deserved pint!!! We can't recommend this enough. Perfect for couples, families and friends who want to be greeted with a gorgeous sunrisenand kissed goodnight by a breathtaking sunset. Dianna is wonderful! So helpful and always around to offer her advice, eggs or candles!!! Well definately be coming back!!

  • Howe Dyke cottage is a beautiful two floor space that is cosy, comfortable, private and very quiet. It was very clean on arrival. The host Paul was on site, considerate and helpful. We cooked a lot of meals and the kitchen is excellent - plus there is a lovely back garden outdoor eating area to enjoy day and night. We also appreciated the washer and dryer and the great shower- all welcome after a long hike or cycle. We loved our stay here!!

  • This was exactly what we wanted. It was quiet and slightly remote, very well presented and spotlessly clean. Close enough to Keswick (Booth's) and Cockermouth to do grocery shopping. We were in easy reach of great walking spots and beautiful drives. Relatively close to the cottage is The Pheasant Hotel & Restaurant, where the bar alone is worth a visit.

  • My family and I had a fab stay at Paul's cottage. My dad especially enjoyed his early morning wildlife spotting walks and we all loved the fact that the kitchen was fully equipped to be able to cook as a family. A great home away from home!

  • We had a fantastic long weekend visiting the Lake District for the first time and Paul's cosy den was the perfect place to unwind and relax after a long day of hiking. The house has a quaint charm about it without doing away with the modern comforts. Its very clean, newly refurbished and tastefully decorated. Paul who is very friendly and easy going had taken the effort to make sure all we needed was readily available before we arrived and he was on-hand to help us with any queries. The location was ideal for us as it was relatively close to the nearest town of Cockermouth and the areas in the Park where we wanted to visit. I cannot recommend Paul's place highly enough, we really enjoyed our stay and we will hopefully be returning sometime soon as there is so much still to explore!

    Eddie2017-04-17T00:00:00Z

Amazingly comfortable bed, really really good shower with brilliant water pressure (that's a big plus, ok), and... a fireplace! Great for making the house really cosy, and creating a lovely romantic atmosphere. Right in central cockermouth, but also near enough for you to just leave the house and go on a charming walk around the river cocker and back. So many pubs as well! Try The Bitter End, personal fave. Anyway, just book it. It's amazing. 10/10

  • Very cosy little cottage with very convenient parking. The log fire was excellent, and was a welcome addition after a days walking.

  • Toll Cottage is cosy, clean and the perfect retreat after a busy day. The cottage is within walking distance of Cockermouth's shops and restaurants and a perfect base to explore the Lake District. Gillian was easy to contact, helpful and informative. We will definitely try to use this cottage again next time we return to The Lakes.

  • Brilliant stay, very close to the town but lovely and cosy

    Rachel2017-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved Cockermouth. The cottage was so close to the main centre and had everything you would need. All the locals are so friendly! Good pubs and restaurants and cafes. We loved being right beside the Cocker River. Would definitely stay again!

  • Gillian and Alan were very kind and fantastic at keeping in touch. The cottage is in a lovely situation. Just right for walking to local shops/ pubs/ restaurants in Cockermouth. Really pleasant (and quite large for being so close to town) garden with view across the river. Perfect for eating outdoors. There is no fence blocking the river, so Gillian provided stakes we could clip our dog's lead to, to keep him from jumping in, but happily we didn't need it. She also directed us to some dog friendly pubs and restaurants we could go to. An added bonus, the car park pass provided for the car park next door gets you into some car parks in nearby towns which is handy as parking is pretty costly in some places. Unfortunately, we had to end our stay early for family reasons but Gillian and Alan were helpful and understanding.

  • Brilliant location, superb hosts. Alan and Gillian went over and above more than once. Can't recommend highly enough.

    Warwick2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our hosts made us feel very welcome and everything was fully catered for, including milk and some goodies in the fridge when we arrived. Alan also gave us tips of what to do and see in the area. The cottage is centrally located in a pretty, sunny little spot by the river with all amenities at your fingertips. The wood-burning stove was a welcome addition after the sun had set. The location was ideal for us to spend a few days exploring the surrounding fells and lakes and for Molly the dog to join us. Any questions we had were responded to quickly via text. A very pleasant and enjoyable stay indeed.

We are located on the edge of the Lake District National Park, within easy driving distance of both the historic towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, and also the stunning Solway Coast.
In addition to our five fully serviced caravan pitches, we have a popular camping pod here in our pretty gardens and caravan site on the edge of the Lake District, Cumbria. Add a touch of glamping to your break away. Enjoy your holiday or short break in our camping pod, which has so many advantages over traditional camping, and is ready for you to move in to! No fighting with canvas, and plenty of mod cons to enhance your time away. All you need to bring is towels and bedding!
Just a couple of miles from Greysouthen, you will find the historic town of Cockermouth. It is famed for its large number of small independent shops selling antiques, books, speciality foods and more. It has a fantastic selection of restaurants & coffee shops, and is also home to Jennings Brewery, the Kirkgate Arts Centre and the Taste Cumbria Food Festival. A little further on the A66 (about 20 minutes' drive) you'll find the adventure Capital – Keswick. There are too many treasures to mention around the Lake District, but you are in close proximity to many of the finest lakes such as Bassenthwaite, Crummock, Loweswater, Buttermere and Derwentwater. Mountain biking is available in Whinlatter Forest (England's only true mountain forest!), as well as Go Ape. Whether you are in to walking, biking, fishing, riding, or just wandering around the area, you will find plenty to do!
  • We book this last minute and so glad we did! Was amazing and the area was so quiet and perfect! Will be coming back soon!

  • We arrived rather late due to traffic but Gillian was very understanding and was very easy to contact. The pod was beautifully clean, exactly like the photos and suited our needs exactly. We had a lovely stay and would thoroughly recommend! Even in October the pod was very cosy and a small heater was more than enough to warm up the pod very quickly.

  • I stayed here with my boyfriend for the weekend. We had a lovely stay, great location to explore the Lake District. Got some great advice for places to eat on our arrival, the camping pod has an amazing view and spot to have breakfast/drink outside.

  • Fantastic site. We used the pod and it was great. So clean and tidy. The small play area was a lovely idea and my kids loved playing on the grassy area around the pod. Nice elevated position with good views of the area.

A first floor flat with private parking, quietly located in the delightful and historic town centre of Cockermouth, the birthplace of Wordsworth. Perfectly placed for exploring and walking the Western Lakes and the Cumbrian coast. The town has good public transport links and an ample selection of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs all within walking distance. Two bedrooms sleeping four with a shower room and kitchen complete with oven, hob, microwave, fridge freezer and washing machine.
  • Very nice flat, well looked afer, very clean and comfortable; comfortable bed, nice bathroom with plenty of hot water, well equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook, convenient parking area and good location close to town center. I do recommend this place.

  • Helen is a wonderful host and her home is beautifully presented. It was spotless, roomy and very well maintained. The beds were extremely comfortable and the power shower was amazing. The flat is one minute away from a supermarket, five minutes away from lovely local shops, cafes and restaurants and very close to gorgeous walks along the river. We would stay here again without a doubt.

    Pam2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • This flat is exactly as photographed and described. Helen has been a most accommodating hostess, explaining everything we needed to know. There's as a booklet to refer to as well if required with further instructions. Nice flat, easy to live in and Aldi just 2 mins walk away for any food supplies. Quiet with one generously spaced parking for car.

    Jo2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely flat. Great location with everything walkable. There is a folding table which seats 4 so you can have family meals - not obvious in the pictures! Small bottle of milk was a nice touch as we had a cup of tea as soon as we arrived. Teabags also available. Power shower also very good! Enjoyed our stay.

    Alison2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Helen was a very welcoming host. She had even supplied us with milk after our long journey. We found the flat very comfortable with all the facilities we needed. It was particularly handy to have a good sized supermarket just a 2 min walk away. Ideal location for visiting our friends and the lakes. Highly recommend.

    Simon2017-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect description on the website, if not better than we expected. The location was amazing, as was the town of Cockermouth. Helen was brilliant and her flat was spotless. She met us at exactly the time I had said we would arrive, as well as having left plenty of essential items: toilet roll, pint of milk, washing up liquid, cooking items, towels and the beds were made up ready for us. She had also left lots of local information which we found extremely useful and used. I will definitely be recommending others to stay there, as well as returning myself again when Im next in the area. Thanks so much Helen.

    Deborah2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying in Cockermouth- it is so much nicer and quieter than Keswick. Yet in very easy reach of Buttermere, Loweswater and the whole North Western Lakes area. The flat is in a quiet road on the edge of town, just along from the Wordsworth's house (NT). Everything you need for shops is on the doorstep too. The flat itself is delightful and much nicer than it looks in the pictures. Easily big enough for a couple + 2. Obviously there is no garden or spectacular Lakeland views, so if you want this look elsewhere. We walked all day every day in the area (good bus connections but we had a car), so what we wanted was a good base. This flat was perfect for us and we will be going back. Amazing value and Helen a lovely host too.

    Kate2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Close to the town centre. Big enough for four people. Helen had got us a pint of milk when we arrived which was a nice touch.

Lovely peaceful 3 bed house tucked away in the historic town of Cockermouth within Western Lake District area. Birth place of many famous "sons" including the poet William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian, leader of Mutiny on the Bounty. This house is ideally situated just off the road to the beautiful lakes & mountains and yet just a few minutes walk from the bustling town centre. Whinlatter Forest, Honister Pass, Keswick, Buttermere and Crummock are all within easy driving distance . Enjoy
  • The place is really cosy. Sadhna is very friendly and very willing to answer my questions. It is also close to the town and lakes.

  • Everything was great, the house was very clean comfortable and conveniently located for the town centre and the northern Lakes. There was reserved parking for two cars. Sadhna gave us good information and was available somewhere around without getting in the way. Very happy.

  • Sadhna and Pat's place was beautiful and was the perfect spot from which to explore the Lake District. The house was spotless, tastefully decorated and well-appointed. The off-street parking was great, especially given that we didn't check in until later in the evening. The village is quiet and friendly with great shops and restaurants. The location was an easy drive to/from Keswick and a short, scenic drive to Whinlatter Forest Park. All in all, a great place to stay and we hope to return!

  • Great view from the decking, the wood burner was a good, was able to buy wood from the campsite. You are able to buy local milk, butter, egg for a good price from the campsite. Just be prepared for wake up early with the tropical bird singing in the morning

    Mark2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay in the Safari tent. Although we brought some of our own camping things, it had EVERYTHING we needed. We arrived in pouring rain so it was lovely to step into a tent that was cosy and dry! Marion was so kind to even offer to cook our sausages but we were adamant to wait for the rain stop and make our own barbeque. Waking up to the sound of birds and the beautiful view of the tarn made the trip extra special. We will be back!

    Mariné2017-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay in the big Safari tent on this farm with camp ground. Check-in was really easy and the tent very clean and spacious. The only thing is that the tent is put up next to washing facilities which is quite noisy at night and in the early morning. This spoils the atmosphere of being alone in nature. You might consider putting the tent up on the other side of the lake? :)

    Stefanie 2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • The tent is very nice and it looks exactly as it appears in the picture. However it is situated very close to the farm and the other camping facilities which makes it less charming than expected. Inside the tent it is warmer than you would expect.

If we had stopped at the pod longer we could have explored the local area much more. Enjoyed the fire pit in the evening. A great facility and great value. Thanks Tim and Nick

  • A cosy little pod in a beautiful location, and the perfect place to see in the New Year. Its location made it an ideal base for a New Year's Day climb of Skiddaw, and the peaceful, tranquil setting was just what we needed after a long climb! The stars were breathtaking too...perfect if you are a keen stargazer. The amenities on site are brilliant, with a very well-equipped laundry room complete with hot shower. If you are looking for a relaxing place to get away from it all in a stunning part of the world, look no further than this lovely little pod.

  • This pod is great for getting away from everything and just enjoying some lovely views. It's cosy, even in the frost. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. They helped us feel better when our car had broken down!

  • My boyfriend and I absolutely loved our stay! The camping pod is more spacious than I imagined and the fold up futon cushions make a comfortable bed. The location is stunning and the facilities are good. Marion is a friendly host who is there if you need her but who will leave you in peace. The unexpected highlight for me was the wolf whistling parrot you hear but can't see on the way back from the shower - made me laugh every time! We would definitely recommend staying with Marion.

    claire2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay. Marion made us feel welcome and gave us all the space we needed to settle in nicely. The camping place and the pod had everything we could've wished for and more! It was surprisingly warm and snug for our wintery stay. Great views from the bird hide, lovely bonfire, nice warm shower and friendly dogs. What more could we want? We can't wait to come back.
