“The Lost Gardens of Heligan give you a taste of the exotic, just 5 minutes drive from Mevagissey. It has a fascinating history, abandoned during the war, only to be rediscovered and brought back to life years later. We love visiting in May/June to see the gigantic rhodedendrons, and seeing what's growing in the fruit and vegetable gardens. There are jungle-like gardens to explore including a rope walk and stunning sculptures in the woods that look like they are growing from the ground. They organise fun events throughout the year - check their website for details.”

Sculpture Garden
“In a beautiful, sheltered valley overlooking St Michael’s Mount; the woods, stream and dramatic vistas provide the perfect setting for large-scale exotic and sub-tropical planting at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens in Cornwall. Interwoven with the planting is an evolving programme of contemporary artwork by internationally renowned artists such as James Turrell, David Nash and Richard Long, who have interacted with the setting to create site-specific permanent work that harmonise with the landscape.”

“House and gardens with an extensive book shop and Art Gallery. The cafe is a favourite! The Woodland walk is beautiful all year round, with an optional path that leads down to the St Mawes Ferry where you can ride across the estuary and back for a donation. Of course, you could drive onto the ferry, and take a tour around St Mawes. The castle is well worth a visit.”

“Explore the wild and stunning Bodmin Moor. we are right on the southern edge of the moor and very close to many historic mining sites. A number of walking routes allow you to get close to these evocative ruins and take in the far reaching views. Park at a local farm shop and enjoy a pasty or cream tea! A favourite spot is Minions - high up on the moor close to the famous Cheesewrings and ancient stone monuments. The village has a lovely café and a great pub!”
