  • Sarah's place is lovely! Beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you might need. The bed is so comfy, we had a lovely nights sleep!! It was easy to check in and Sarah was very friendly.

  • A delightful quiet little haven. We would return without hesitation.

  • Sarah's annex is beautiful and exceeded our expectations. The pictures dont do it justice as it a truly lovely hideway. Beautiful devonshire countryside, seaside and beaches on your doorstep. Kitchen fitted out with everything you could need, lovely bright, spacious bedroom with plenty of storage and an extremely comfortable bed. Modern shower room with power shower. Bright and spacious living/dining room. Cute garden with table and chairs which we took advantage of to have breakfast at. Annex is really easy to find via the windy country roads. Sarah recommended a local taxi service which was great. Sarah provided us with directions and extra info before our stay and was quick to respond to my queries. Would highly recommend!!

  • Lovely annexe beautiful gardens gorgeous location

    Stephen2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • A really quiet place to stay, far away from traffic noise, in a lovely village. The accommodation is excellent value for money, and is deceptively large. We appreciated being able to sit in the garden, though the lounge/diner is very spacious and comfortable. You are in reach of some of the loveliest places in Devon, if you can avoid the temptation of just chilling out here.

    Andrew2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah's garden annexe is a very beautiful and peaceful place to stay and relax. Nicely equipped in a quiet neighbourhood. Getting there is an adventure for those not used to tiny roads but definitely worth trying . Thanks Sarah!!

    Anita2017-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • A wifi outage on our last morning was tricky but not the hosts fault. No was the fact that the neighbour opposite was noisily working in his workshop constantly which meant it wasn't as peaceful as it could have been. Otherwise great.

Charm and good design combine to welcome you to a stay in our eccentric, very romantic little Folly. The bedroom has a large, comfy bed with both a bathroom and a separate shower room and a boat seat on the decking over the stream. Above there is a stylish compact kitchen/dining area, and a balcony looking over the stream. Then into a cosy sitting-room with a wood-burning stove, a comfy sofa, a sleigh bed/sofa, a balcony overlooking the grass tennis court, a record player and a television.
The Folly is very romantic and special with a beautiful little boat seat overlooking the gurgling stream ... how many people can say they have stayed in a very unique Folly?
Fingals is a mile away from Dittisham, a beautiful village sited on the edge of the river Dart. As well as the many popular tourist spots right on our doorstep; Agatha Christie's recently restored summer house and gardens are just across the river, there are many delights a short drive away including the renowned Devon beaches and Dartmoor National Park. Below we have listed a selection of some of our favourite things to do locally. There are wonderful walks along the River Dart or along the Coastal path...

Our self-contained beautifully appointed cosy cabin is in a small pretty and peaceful rural Devon village on the banks of the tidal estuary. We are close to Totnes, Dartmouth, beautiful unspoilt beaches and Dartmoor National Park.
The cabin is fully self contained and cosy, with one room and an open plan kitchen and a wet room with underfloor heating. It is light airy and very well insulated. Perfect for 2 people. We have equipped the cabin well with everything you will need for your stay, with little touches that will make your stay comfortable. It is beautifully and tastefully decorated. You have your own private cottage garden, kitchen with butler sink; washing machine; fridge freezer and small cooker. There is a new and comfortable sofa bed with a slatted wooden base, just like a real bed and fresh clean linen and Egyption cotton towels are provided. There is sunny deck outside to chill out and enjoy the peace, the birds singing and the wonderful views. There views from the cabin are of rural green and lush Devon. There are plenty of local pubs with great food. Many interesting walks in the green lanes and rolling landscape of Devon. On arrival we give you breakfast of croissant, jam and butter, fresh orange juice, tea, fresh coffee, milk and fresh flowers.
Our small village is well known for its wonderful community feel with sports days etc. A wonderful pub in the village serving great food. It is very quiet and peaceful. You will be woken only by the birds singing. In the heart of rural Devon, we have loads of picturesque walks and the stunning views in every direction, whether it is the river with the seals and egrets, the sea in the distance or the wild moors. We have a lovely old church straight out of Jane Austin. If you love the beach life we are close to beautiful and unspoilt beaches and close by are the best waves in South Devon Bantham Beach where you can learn to surf at Bantham Surf Academy, Dartmouth for sailing, Totnes for shopping and the brilliant and unique Friday market, the wild and spectacular Dartmoor National Park is also close. A great place to rest and recharge your batteries.
  • When we got there Jo was there to meet us and show us around. She was lovely and gave us loads of information on local pubs and places to go surfing etc. so was very helpful. The cabin itself was quite small, which we expected but it was really close to Jo and Tony's house and with the French windows stretching across the whole cabin it wasn't as private as we'd hoped. We felt a bit on show with people walking in and out of the front door and abandoned our original plans to have a BBQ on one of the evenings. The only other problem was that with the very thin, white curtains it was very bright in the morning as soon as the sun had risen. It was quite a good thing in the end as we were up and out of the cabin really early to go off and explore the area but it wasn't ideal.

  • Lovely accomendation. Had a small issue finding it but due to sat nav. Was recommended the pub in the near by village - was wonderful. We went twice!

    Emma2015-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • I loved Jo and Tony's cabin and it was so ideal for my weekend. Jo was extremely welcoming on arrival and all the little touches like fresh flowers and breakfast made me feel really at home. The place had a great energy and was super cosy. I have already suggested this place to all my girlfriends looking for a few days piece and quiet!

    sophie2016-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • A bright, cute and functionnal cabin in a lovely village close to the nice own of Totnes. Jo and Tony are welcoming and discreet hosts, we really enjoyed our stay.

  • We had a lovely stay at Jasper Cottage. The village is beautiful and so peaceful! It's also a short drive from Totnes and Dartmouth, plus there's a lovely pub near by called the Sportmans Arms. The little cabin was the perfect amount of space for a short couples retreat. The kitchen had everything you needed and they provided breakfast on arrival which was a lovely added extra, however we found the sofa bed was a little uncomfortable. Definitely recommend visiting!

    Elly2016-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Tony and Jo were delightful hosts, friendly, helpful and very hospitable. We loved the cabin. For us it was the perfect base from which to both explore Devon and to go on long walks straight from the front door. We had a great time.

    Steve2016-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cabin - perfect as a place to crash after attending a wedding at nearby sharpham house.

    Blue2016-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is exactly as described and photographed. It is small, but perfectly presented and kitted out. It was an ideal base for 3 days of walking. We used the well equipped kitchenette for 2 evening meals in sat on the decking, and enjoyed the hospitality of the local pub in the village for our third meal. Jo and Tony made us feel so very welcome without being intrusive. Would reccomend.

This beautifully restored romantic and private cottage has soul. It rises out of a hectare of tidal watermeadow river frontage and woodland. A wonderfully rich natural habitat. Carefully negotiate the stepping stones or walk over the hump-backed Bow Bridge to one of the two delightful pubs: The Watermans Arms or the renowned Maltsters Arms. Walk for miles in the South Hams network of cliff top, esturine and rural foot paths. Drive 30 mins to Bantham Beach or up to Hey Tor on Dartmoor.
  • This cottage is lovely and cosy. It has everything you need for a break and having Emma and Sid as hosts is the icing on the cake! They are such amazing hosts who give you space to enjoy yourselves but always available if you need information regarding activities, restaurants/pubs etc in the surrounding area. We were welcomed with a freshly baked cake upon arrival which was just what we needed after a long drive in the rain to Devon. We also arrived late so we didn't get a chance to do any shopping but Emma and Sid came to our rescue the following morning and left a basket with bread, bacon and eggs by our front door for us to make breakfast. This was very kind and lovely of them as the breakfast wasn't included on our bill. I highly recommend Stepps Cottage. It is the perfect place to spend the weekend (or longer) if you want to unwind and relax. There is also a lot to do in the local area if you want to explore (ask Emma and Sid for suggestions and they will point you in the right direction).

    Tatenda2017-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful cottage. We particularly loved eating breakfast outside and taking in the wonderful view. Emma and Sid were very friendly. The cottage is beautifully laid out with attention to detail and a king size bed! This is a quality place and highly recommended! The surrounding countryside is gorgeous and many beaches are close by.

    Sharon2017-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a great few days. We really loved staying in Emma and Sid's lovely little place. Although we didn't meet Emma we had a couple of great chats with Sid and he is a really great host. Thanks so much. Would highly recommend.

    Jessica2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here with my girlfriend and myself for 3 days (wish it was longer) who hadn't been to the countryside before and can say it's been such a great stay. Emma and Sid are honestly so lovely, could not ask for better hosts. I loved it and would highly recommend this place to anyone the cottage is amazing, clean and beautiful. Thank you very much!

    Spencer2017-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Fab cottage that's even better than the photos. Well appointed kitchen, comfy bedding and bed and the most beautiful surroundings. Sid was a fun and informative host. If you can go across the stepping stones to the Pub for great food.

    Jodie2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time in and around the little holiday house of Emma and Sid! We very much enjoyed the garden, the river and the estuary. And it was a pleasure to meet such friendly hosts, who made the stay a real highlight of our holidays.

    Alice2017-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a fantastic weekend staying with Emma & Sid who were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The cottage is beautiful and relaxing and has everything you'd need for a weekend (or longer) away. We had more than enough space to do what we wanted yet both were always at hand if we need info or advice. Such a relaxing enjoyable weekend - thanks again for everything!

    ann 2017-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely spot to relax. Emma and Sid have clearly gone the extra mile and have kitted out a quality Airbnb. A decent bed, fresh ground coffee, sharp knives... all little things but they add up to make a big difference. They are attentive and check in every day to make sure all is OK. Well done guys!

Hello there, Thanks for your enquiry about our North Barn. Sadly we have builders taking the deck down at the moment and re-building it + the studio underneath - so it is noisy from 8.am - 4.pm on weekdays. We hope it will be finished by the end of November, but we don’t know exactly when ... Weekends would be quiet in the barn, but with no use of the deck … a weekend would be at a reduced price. We’ll look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Jilly Sutton.
  • Jilly is a fantastic host; she made us feel welcome from the off and went beyond to ensure that we would have a lovely, easy stay. The barn itself is superb - light, airy, well-prepared and entirely encourages relaxation (if the view wasn't enough). The balcony deserves a special mention for anyone who enjoys bird watching or star gazing! We had a beautiful few days and came away feeling entirely relaxed; hopefully we will get to return one day!

    Siân2016-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I were looking for a place to completely switch off and relax, and we found it at Whitestone Farm! From the basic but functional design of the interiors in the North Barn to the location, we found ourselves in possibly one of the most comfortable and restful surroundings we have ever experienced. The barn was fully equipped and we were not wanting for anything. The barn was also fully functioning with wonderful water pressure and hot water in the bathroom, which made for a very warming shower after walking along the country lanes in the cooler autumn temperatures. Most of all we enjoyed the fireplace which only added to an already extremely cosy atmosphere at night. We will never forget the sunrise each morning which was nothing short of spectacular from the living room couch with a hot cup of tea and toast warming in the kitchen. Overall, it is hard to sum up our week in the North Barn as there were so many wonderful memories - form watching the tides of the River Dart come in and out, to seeing a seal, bunny rabbits and beavers. Whitestone Farm appeared a place of great beauty and whilst isolated from the town felt extremely safe, clean and friendly. We know for sure that we miss it already! We look forward to returning again some day! It was a home away from home! Thank you Jilly for hosting us! Roger + Soraya

    Roger2016-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This has to be one of the best airbnb stays we've ever had. The view from the barn is stunning and the interior is beautiful. Jilly was a very kind host and showed us around and made sure we had all we needed. We wish we could have stayed longer and have vowed to return soon! We only had 3 nights here and I would most definitely recommend a longer stay. We feel well and truly relaxed after our stay. Thank you Jilly and Peter.

  • Lovely week staying in North Barn. The accommodation and view is outstanding. Such a beautiful part of the world. Idyllic. Thank you Jilly

    Sally2016-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning location and stunning home with comfy beds and all you could want for a getaway far from civilisation but close enough to some superb pubs and eateries. Very helpful hosts too. A gem.

  • This is by far the best Airbnb I have ever stayed at. The pictures do not and cannot do it justice. We had a wonderful week here with my 5 year old and spent a week visiting loads of local attractions all a short drive away. Jill made us feel very welcome. We will be back North Barn is truly a magical place .

    Sally2017-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most wonderful time at Jilly's barn. The view is completely stunning, I witnessed one of the best sunrises of my life. She was very kind and accommodated us staying an extra night at very short notice due to one our party being ill. It's a lovely spot, totally recommended. Thanks Jilly!

    Lauren2015-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • North Barn is a truely idilic escape by the river. It has a beautifully simple and relaxed interior, with an abundance of natural light. It is fitted out with all you need and has an extremely comfortable bed! Ultimately it is the uninterrupted river views that make North Barn so captivating. From amazing sun rises to watching the moon reflect across the water, it was very hard to leave.

Wharf Corner is part of a nineteen century stone-built wharehouse which served Bow Creek and the River Dart. You’ll love the outstanding scenery, the waterside location and the opportunities for boating, crabbing and fishing. It's good for couples, families (with kids), and well-behaved furry friends (pets).
The apartment is part of an old stone warehouse, probably dating from about 1800 and converted 30 years ago into 3 substantial apartments. It is situated on the banks of Bow Creek, a tidal tributary of the River Dart, its name reflecting its origins. It has its own small patio area and shares the quayside with the adjacent apartment The quayside comprises seating, a small summerhouse and a set of steps from which our kayak can be launched. You can also bring your own form of river transport. Fishing from the quayside is permitted, but sea bass fishing from boats is prohibited. Good local facilities for eating and drinking are within easy walking distance: the Maltsters Arms (once 'Floyd's Inn) is literally next door and is a popular refreshment stop for boats when the tide is right; the Watermans Arms, only 5 minutes upstream, is a river-, rather than creek-side, location with a lovely outside riverside garden. Totnes is ~4 miles by car, or glorious 3.5 mile walk first through Asprington and then alongside or overlooking the river Dart. Blackpool Sands is ~25 minutes minutes away by car. 55 minutes away, but with good sand rather than shingle is East Portlemouth, opposite the yachting resort of Salcombe.
Totnes is fascinating old walled town. It actually pre-dates William the Conqueror, although there's little left but the Saxon street plan to show it. There's the remains of a Norman castle, but most of the existing buildings date from Elizabethan times. In medieval times its location -- it is still the first bridging point over the River Dart -- made it one of the wealthiest and most important market towns in Devon. It retains its charm, but now it has gained a little reputation as place for those seeking the alternative lifestyle. There is lots to see and do, not least of which is a trip down the river to Dartmouth Dartmouth is almost as old as Totnes. It's importance stems from its deep-water harbour and its accessibility at all points of tide and pretty well all weathers. It is the home of the Britannia Royal Naval College and used to be an important naval port. (The 2nd & 3rd Crusades assembled in Dartmouth). It was the departure point for many of the Elizabethan navigators and explorers. It lost its supremacy to Plymouth because of its restricted size and poor inland communications. The latter problem was resolved in the 19th and 20th centuries and the former is partly the reason for its latter-day charm. Apart from a huge variety of water-borne activities, the town hosts a series of events during the holiday season including the Music Festival in May, Art & Craft Weekend in July, Dartmouth Regatta in August, Food Festival in October and Candlelit Dartmouth in early December. Further upstream there is Greenway, summer residence of Agatha Christie and before that sometime home to the Elizabethan explorers Sir Humphrey Gilbert, Sir Walter Raleigh and John Davis. Immediately opposite Greenway on the western side of the Dart is the pretty village of Dittisham from where the Dittisham Regatta is held in early August.
  • We had a lovely weekend at Wharf Corner. We thoroughly enjoyed the peace of the location and the beautiful accommodation. Our hosts were very kind. We would definitely recommend a stay here!

  • If you are looking for a peaceful escape in an idyllic location this is it. Right next to the River Dart in a quiet country spot with the advantage of a nice pub next door. Spacious and well equipped flat which has a lovely homely feel so very relaxing if you want to stay put. It's also in an ideal spot for exploring south Devon's attractions as long as you don't mind negotiating a few country lanes to get anywhere.

    Mark2017-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely property in a great part of Devon. Fantastic waterside location right on the river with a nice pub next door. Sheelah was a great host, offering us a kind welcome and help throughout our stay. Kindly allowed us to borrow the 2 person kayak. Would definitely stay here again when visiting this part of Devon.

  • We travelled to Tuckenhay for a half term nature trip away from the maddening crowd (London). Five year old and 18-month old in tow, we had a lovely time. As echoed many times in the reviews, Wharf Corner is a stunning and extremely relaxing location. A massive bonus is The Malsters Arms (Keith Floyd's old gaff) right next door. The apartment itself is a nice open space for the family rabble with cosy bedrooms and a good, well stocked kitchen. Thank you to our gracious hosts.

The Space Lovely Double Bedroom in our family home. Egyptian linen, private bathroom with a shower room next door. Tea/coffee making, lounge, gardens. Beautiful location with river walks, great pubs, cafe, and restaurants. a few miles ( 4 and 6 ) from the towns of Totnes and Dartmouth. Award winning vineyard with an alfresco cafe where you can try the cheese and wine made on the premises. Beaches 15 minutes in a car. Own transport a must
Good size Double bedroom with room for a cot/mattress for a young child,
The South Hams (AONB) has the estuary towns of Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe, all well known as places to enjoy fine food and local shopping, not to mention their popularity with boat owners and fishermen. There are some magnificient beaches such as Beesands and Slapton Sands, which stretches for miles to the rocks reaching around to Start Point. Days out take a trip to Paignton and catch the Steam Train to Kingswear and then the Ferry to Dartmouth. Spend a happy few hours in Totnes, the crossing point of the River Dart by car. This ancient town is full of interesting shops and is haven for artists and those seeking an alternative pace of life. From here you can drive further onto Dartmouth or Kingsbridge and then Salcombe or one of the smaller places such as Hope Cove which has some great places to stay. Around the headland from Dartmouth are the beaches mentioned earlier and are certainly recommended! Then stop at Torcross, next to Slapton Ley for a pint and crab sandwiches and read the history of the area in WW11 and why there is a tank here. Or you may wish to reach into Dartmoor, as some of this area is still in the South Hams, or you can drive down to Plymouth, one of the region's larger cities, which is about 30 minutes away from Totnes. Drive to Dittisham and cross the river to Agatha Christie's home.
  • Lovely house in a quiet village. Strongly recommended

  • What a lovely warm welcome from Susie and Mark! This was our first experience of Airbnb and I really do think we struck gold. Their beautiful home mixes the charm of an old Devonshire cottage with a stunning C21st addition. Susie responded instantly to our enquiry and from that point everything worked like a dream. Cornworthy is an exceptionally pretty village, and the views and walks from Wisteria Cottage are fabulous. On arrival we spent a good hour or so basking in the September sunshine in the back garden watching a young buzzard wheeling about the hill and a pair of wrens popping in and out of the creepers on the garden wall. It was beautifully peaceful and dark enough at night to see millions of stars. We both slept very well in the large comfy bed and appreciated the privacy of our own bathroom. Breakfast was yummy, the real coffee from fresh beans was fabulous and the adorable pets - Rocco the laboradoodle and Marble the cat - were an added bonus. We were made to feel so much at home it felt more like visiting old friends.

  • This was our first experience of airbnb and we were not at all disappointed. Susie and Mark made us very welcome in their very relaxed and comfortable home. Breakfast was great. Rocco was the perfect doggy host too ;-)

Riverside House is a lovely 18C thatched cottage in an idyllic tranquil settings on the bank of the tidal River Dart. It is an ideal place to sit and watch the wildlife with lovely walks along the river on the Dart Valley trail. Guests are welcome to bring their own kayaks, canoes and dinghies. The ancient town of Totnes is 10 minutes away and Dittisham, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Dartmoor are within a 30-minute drive.
  • Everything about this beautiful house is perfect. It is in the most gorgeous spot. Waking up every morning and sitting by the river to have a morning coffee and watch the ducks and swans swimming by was magical. It was lovely to arrive after a long drive to find the fridge full of essentials. The house itself is a warm and comfortable home. We spent so much time in the river rowing up and down and as there are several boats that we were able to use it was great fun for all of us to share time together. It is a very special place and we would all love to return next year.

  • If you want some beauty and peace, come here. If you want luxurious comforts and an artistic setting, come here. If you want such an idealised English countryside cottage that it couldn't possibly exist, come here. Gorgeous yet with all the family fun of splashing about in and on the river, lovely beaches to drive to, and lots of fun days out for all ages nearby. We ( an extended family of ten ranging from 13 to 84 years old) absolutely loved it .

A self contained cottage. Great for 2, suitable for a babe in arms. Well behaved pet welcome. 1 roomy bedroom upstairs with a separate bathroom with a decent sized double ended bath. Downstairs a living room with separate kitchen. Additional bedrooms in main house if required. Pretty walled garden space.
Pearse's is a pretty cottage with character set back from a quiet village street. We have renovated it recently to a high standard. All rooms have central heating. The delightful bathroom has a double ended bath for relaxing after your busy day. The bed is large, it can be split into 2 single beds if you wish. The sheets, duvet cover, pillow cases and towels supplied are 100% cotton. We have tried to make your stay here as comfortable as possible. We are happy for you to bring your babe in arms, but the cottage isn't suitable for toddlers. The cottage has room for a travel cot in the bedroom which we can provide. We welcome a well behaved pet. There is a small garden with a bench and table at the front of the house. In the living room is a woodburning stove, the !st basket of logs is provided free of charge. Though the cottage is compact, there is plenty of space for 2 people. Extra bedrooms can be booked in the main house which adjoins the cottage, and can be see on our other listing. Price as a joint booking on application. We should mention that the stairs are narrower in width than normal, also the doorway between the bedroom and bathroom is low, unless you duck you will bang your head, caution needed!
Ashprington is relatively unique as it has no yellow lines or street lighting. What's more it is very pretty. The pub in the village has a good reputation for food and has a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. There are however two more pubs a little further away but walkable. A favourite with many guests is the beautiful walk to Totnes with views of the river. Having enjoyed what Totnes has to offer a taxi is often used on the return journey! There are plenty of good walks nearby. The area has many places of interest.
  • Lovely (warm) cream tea upon arrival. Very nice little cottage next to the hosts' house. Equiped with everything you need to cook in house, a nice bathroom and a comfortable bed. The town is actually quite cute and directly on the national cycle route the Totnes (recommended, though only short part is off the main roads). Also, plenty of good restaurants close-by and shop in totnes. Hosts are very friendly and nice people in general, they were very helpful whenever we needed suggestions or a breakfast :).

  • Beautiful cottage in a beautiful quintessential English village. The cottage has its own parking (which is essential) and everything else that you would need. Perfect for a couple to get away from it all. The bed was super comfortable too. We enjoyed lunch in the village pub. A supermarket is a small drive away and totnes is close by too.

  • Ali and William's place was really lovely. One of the comfiest beds ever. Ali cooked us a delicious breakfast on our first morning. The cottage is really comfy. They made us very welcome - we didn't arrive until after 11pm and William had waited up for us to show us in. Overall we felt very welcome and loved this place.

    Annabel2015-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Ali was a lovely host. The cottage was very clean and tidy. If you're self catering the kitchen is well equipped for whatever needs you may have.

    Bailey2016-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Ali was very welcoming and had everything ready when we arrived and even provided some lovely scones with fresh clotted cream and jam. The location was perfect for exploring the South Devon coast and the local pub was very nice too.

    Stefan2016-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a week at Pearse's Cottage and had a superb time. Ali & William are great, the place was immaculate and there were warn scones waiting for us. We had a brief tour before they wished us they're best and left us to it. We had such a relaxing week. The village is small but beautiful and surrounded by stunning countryside. I ran to Totnes every morning with the dog, there is a lovely cross country route to the town which has everything you'll need to stock up for your stay. There are 3 great pubs within walking distance of the cottage including one less than 100m from the door. We enjoyed excellent meals there including Sunday lunch. If you want a relaxing break then I can't recommend this cottage enough. We traveled down to Salcombe, the coast and the surrounding area and really appreciated having a lovely cosy place to come back to, it really is a home from home. We'll definitely be visiting again. Good to know: there is a small TV with a DVD & USB input. There is also fast wireless internet which is essential due to next to no GSM signal. I'd recommend however you turn off your phone and forget about it for your stay. Bliss!

    Chris2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • We used the cottage as a writing retreat and it was perfect. Lots of walking, food and beer close by, and a peaceful space with perfect light. Can't wait to come back

  • Me and my girlfriend had such a lovely stay at Pearce's cottage. Ali was a lovely host and greeted us with warm scones on arrival! The cottage was very cosy and surrounded by natural beauty! Great location next to a few lovely pubs and very close to Totnes. Would definitely stay again and recommend anyone who wants a romantic trip away.

  • Very pleasant stay, communication was very good and the problem of no high chair, as asked for, was very quickly resolved. Very well equipped kitchen (and utility room) with high end appliances, plenty of crockery etc, and a nice touch was a few basics for our arrival. Very comfortable bedrooms with efficient en suite facilities. The lighting is quite fun to work out, but works well. Beautiful situation overlooking a creek with a couple of pubs nearby. All in all an excellent stay and I would recommend and would return.

    Charlie2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Bakehouse does not fit a simple category. It's secluded yet you are a mere hundred yards to and expertly pulled Guinness at the Malsters Arms. The Old Bakehouse sits on the water and then it doesn't. The tides change the setting while creating a diverse scene right before your very eyes. It's a quiet out of the way place accessed by narrow lanes. Steady as you go, for sure.

  • Brilliant home for an inter-generational family holiday. Everyone had their own bathrooms, there was a huge master bedroom and the kitchen was well equipped. A very practically designed house in a truly lovely setting. Highly recommended.

  • The house is just great. It offers all the modern comfort with wifi, Netflix/Amazon within an old country house. The refurb was top quality. The neighbors are great people, Pubs within walking distance and the kids enjoyed feeding the swans and ducks at hide tide and the adults the drinks on the balcony. Gary was very responsive and helped when needed. We really enjoyed our time there and would definitely recommend it for summer as well as winter breaks!

The bedroom on offer is spacious and light with two windows giving views across the valley. The ensuite has a large shower and all toiletries are provided. A hospitality tray is provided including home made biscuits.Breakfast is served down stairs in a separate room with log burning stove for chilly mornings There are two pubs within walking distance,The Maltsters(booking recommended) and a little further, The Watermans Arms .The "quirky " town of Totnes is 4 miles away offering plenty of independent shops, cafes and restaurants and a main line railway station. Blackpool sands is about a 20 minute drive and Salcombe is 19 miles. Dartington Hall and estate are not far and provide a small cinema, cultural events and tranquil walks around the estate. This is not a place for those who want a noisy night life but a peaceful stay away from the hustle and bustle of daily life
  • Sally & Graham have a beautiful home & have refurbished to a high standard throughout. The double room is lovely and light with everything you could need for a very comfortable stay. There's TV in the room & tea/coffee/hot choc. making facilities. There were lovely touches too like fresh flowers & homemade biscuits. The ensuite is large with roomy shower & toiletries provided. We had a party to go to in a nearby pub and we felt free to come and go as we pleased. The cup of tea & chat on arrival made us feel very welcome and the breakfast before we left had us lingering perhaps longer than we should have! Thank you... We will recommend to others NB: There's no mobile reception in this secluded location but Wi-Fi is freely available so there's no problem using (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) or Wi-Fi dialling.

  • Sally and Graham are serious hosts! They do everything very properly and very well. The breakfast was fresh, healthy and varied every morning. Graham happily locked our bikes in his garage and between them they couldn't do enough to accommodate us. I would highly recommend them as hosts. Thank you both :)

  • We loved staying at this perfect Air bnb. We were working nearby in Dartmouth and needed somewhere to stay the night. It is such a beautiful property and Sally and her husband have created a lovely place to stay. The room was large and had veiws out over the village and the surrounding hills. The ensuite bathroom is large and modern. As for breakfast there was so much of it , which was great as it set us up for the day. We would not hesitate in recommending this place to stay if you are in the area - you will not be dissapointed. Thanks Sally

  • My wife and I recently enjoyed a 2 night stay at Sally and Graham's beautifully restored cottage. we were made to feel very welcome and Sally and Graham are excellent hosts who clearly know how to combine hospitality with allowing guests the space to relax and enjoy the wonderful amenities they provide. The whole cottage is tastefully decorated and our en suite bedroom was a delight, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Our breakfasts were delicious and Sally was happy to accommodate our gluten free dietary needs. We really looked forward to 'coming home' to the cottage after spending a day exploring Totnes and we ate out each night at the Durrant Arms and then in the village at the Maltsters Arms, both enjoyable. I cannot recommend this Airbnb highly enough and we shall certainly be asking Sally and Graham if they will have us back.

  • Pam's bungalow was the perfect place for our weekend getaway. We thought it was a very homely, comfortable and well kept place to stay, with a lovely tranquil and private country garden. The bungalow is situated a short stroll from great village amenities, including a riverside cafe and pubs serving good food. Pam was away, so we received a very warm and informative welcome from Ali her daughter-in-law. Would definitely recommend host and home. Thanks Pam.

  • Lovely place to stay very comfortable, good pubs and cafes that sell food near by. Would stay again, very nice area and Pam is a very nice lady.

  • The cream teas on arrival was a really nice welcome! Pam's house is very clean and tidy, and had everything we required and even has a selection of board games which we played in the evening. The front and back garden were perfect for the dog. Stoke Gabriel was a great village for us to have a few days away in, quiet, picturesque and a short drive to the supermarket and seaside. We highly reccommend the Calamari at the River Shack in the village too.

    David2016-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Pam's bungalow is in a secluded, beautiful part of South Devon. We stayed for just 3 nights with our small dog in May 2017. The weather was a bonus - sunshine for 3 days. he bungalow is well equipped and very comfortable... Pam met us upon arrival and ensured we had everthing we needed. The kitchen was well equipped and it was great having milk, fruit, tea and coffee provided. Pam also provides a cream tea on arrival - wonderful. Whilst here we enjoyed exploring the local area, admiring the beautiful scenery and walking around the local towns. We would highly recommend completing the 'Round Robin' trip (Steam Train, Boat Trip and Bus Trip) from Paignton to Dartmouth then Totnes and returning to Paignton again. We would highly recommend staying here... and look forward to returning again soon.

  • Lovely spacious bungalow in a quiet lane. Great communication from Pam including directions to avoid narrow lanes. Nice friendly welcome from Pam despite us arriving earlier than expected. The bungalow had everything we could possibly need and was a comfortable and spacious home from home. Pam kindly provided tea, coffee, milk plus fresh croissants with butter and a choice of jams for breakfast. Secure gardens both front and back so I didn't have to worry about my dog escaping ! Stoke Gabriel is a lovely village in a good location for exploring this area of Devon.

A cosy, romantic cottage ideal for couples. Close to beaches, the river Dart, great pubs and the wonderful south Devon countryside. Dartmouth and Totnes with trendy boutiques, cafes and restaurants are a short drive.
  • Tukenhay is a converted farm outbuilding in a beautiful rural location in South Devon with wonderful views over the countryside. It is an ideal base for walking in the area. The cottage is well equipped and had all the amenities we required. Our hosts gave us useful information about hostelleries in the local area. We had a minor problem with the hot water but it was responded to quickly and resolved satisfactorily.

A unique, warm and comfortable farmhouse with a large garden. It has been a loved family home that has welcomed guests for many years. We have 3 en-suite bedrooms, a large sitting room with Sky TV, a garden room, terrace and large dining room. There
  • We arrived with our dog to a warm welcome, with cups of tea and cuddles with Basil. Diane was helpful, offering things to do nearby, although she certainly respected our privacy. The property is unique, and we loved the old books in our room, and the views of the pretty garden with ducks and chickens roaming about. A great, dog-friendly overnight stay. Would definitely return.

  • Bohemian farmhouse with art and books galore, dogs, cats and chickens wandering around, lovely relaxed atmosphere

    Helen & Steve2017-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Diana's place is absolutely beautiful. We had an enormous room with everything you could wish for including a massive bed with plenty of room for us and our child. There are interesting paintings and books all over the house which has a warm bohemian, family feel. Best of all are the gardens and space outside which our son and dog enjoyed running around in and then there's Basil the friendliest dog ever. Diana was very accommodating especially considering we arrived so late due to Bank Holiday traffic and cooked us a delicious breakfast with fresh goose eggs!

  • Laid back and peaceful environment but with all the key ingredients in place to provide a very comfortable stay. Great location nothing was more than 20 minutes away for either the South Devon Coast or the fascinating Totnes with it’s history of alternative culture. I have stayed in some amazing places, this was my first 'home stay' as I couldn't face another overpriced and underpar seaside environment and I was not disappointed, a jaded traveller I now tend to seek out the unusual and believe I’ve found a real treasure! The house is charming and quirky and full of wonderful books and eclectic artworks, kilims thrown randomly on the floor and huge tapestry covered sofas positioned around the fireplace. My room was not large but didn’t need to be with a comfortable really decent bed, lovely crisp freshly laundered sheets, and a good sized ensuite bathroom. We were lucky to have enjoyed beautiful daytime weather during our brief stay but it was cold at night and found the warm fire set in the sitting room to be a welcoming touch after returning home from dinner each evening. The mornings at the house were relaxed and laid back, a very good organic breakfast of lovely breads, homemade confits and mostly local produce served at a civilised time [we chose] 9am served in the dining room, delicious duck eggs if you are lucky, a real treat. This is a special place, a little different and in my opinion quite groovy and not to be measured by the dreaded ‘TripAdvisor’ standards. Nota bene: Eating: 25 minutes by car: The Vineyard Kitchen, Sharpham Estate. Locally caught fish and shellfish, wood fired oven, local meats grilled over own vine prunings, good salads and simple puddings. 15mins by car: Seeds to Totnes , High st. Totnes. Excellent veggie supper and lovely ambience all you can eat for £10.00 bring your own wine. Friday evenings only. 10 minutes by car: Maltster’s Arms, Tuckenhay. Lovely picturesque waterside Inn, good fresh fish and shellfish, formerly owned by Keith Floyd. Visiting: 15 minutes by car: Market day, Totnes, Saturday mornings. Flea market 25 minutes by car: Sharpham Estate, famous for it’s cheese and English wines, visits daily.

    Charming B&B near Totnes
    4 reviews
The house is in one of the best locations in the South Hams. We are situated in a secluded valley in Tuckenhay village which has two great pubs on the river within walking distance including the famous Maltsters (previously owned by Keith Floyd). The valley has only one other house and there are several public footpaths. You can walk for 45 mins up the valley without seeing another house in wonderful nature. The property is set in over an acre of gardens with a 6 person hot tub to enjoy. .
Wonderful house with kitchen diner with sofa and wood burner. Large upstairs living room also with log burner and home cinema system. Large garden with 6 person Hot Tub in a secluded south facing valley.
Tuckenhay is superbly situated and you can get to Totnes, Dartmouth and Dittisham in less than 15 mins by car. You can also get to Blackpool sands beach in around 20 mins. Within 45 mins you can get to over 20 beaches and to Kingsbridge, Torquay, Exeter, Plymouth and Dartmoor National Park.
  • The house is located in a lovely quiet rural location within staggering distance of the pub on Bow Creek. Plenty of walks on your doorstep and close enough to Totnes and Dartmouth if you need shops. The garden is great to enjoy and there is plenty of parking if you travel independently. Aiste is a great host with excellent communication.

  • Really nice, clean space, quiet spot, and Margaret will fix a nice breakfast.

  • The Nook is perfectly named: A charming bungalow, tucked away in the corner of a courtyard, with it's own terraced garden. Very handy for Paignton zoo! The room is very comfortable if perhaps a little small, and Margaret was a welcoming and attentive host. The continental breakfast with home made jams was delicious.

    Dhugal2017-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my visit with Margaret at 'The Nook'. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean and the Bed was particularly comfortable. Margaret's service is highly professional and she couldn't have been more helpful and friendly.

    Andrew2017-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • A little tricky to find (it’s tucked away next to the old Baptist church), and for foodies not much in the village but Margaret’s place is cosy, clean with a lovely bed. Margaret is a great, caring and accommodating host who also puts on a fabulous full breakfast of local ingredients served on vintage Denby crockery!

This yurt is a beautiful structure made from wood and canvas with stunning views that open your horizons! Set within the 42 acres of Landmatters holding, and part of the off-grid community, this privately situated space fits 2 comfortably
Bed linen, basic kitchen facilities incl. gas cooker and electricity (when sufficient sun!) all included. First load of wood for wood burner supplied, further wood can be bought. Compost toilets in next field. Washing bowl and jug. Drinking water pumped by hand from borehole, rainwater for washing up fetched from roof collection tanks. This is our off-grid lifestyle – simple and satisfying, and easy on the earth…
This yurt is situated at Landmatters community ((URL HIDDEN) please be aware of people's private spaces. Be aware of our neighbours, their space and peace and quiet. If driving, turn left out of the gate so as to avoid the village. If walking the land, make sure you know where the land boundaries are and please do not leave any litter.
  • This idyllic escape to the country was paradise - just what the doctor ordered for our New Year retreat. Having packed hot water bottles, dressing gowns etc we couldn't believe how toasty the yurt became when the log fire was in full swing, certainly no issues with the cold here! And the yurt provided everything we could have needed, from sound kitchen facilities and electricity power points to fairy lights and the most delicious fresh drinking water (which is sourced on site). The bed was super comfy too. We had such a very chilled and cosy stay. Maren and her family were super friendly and helpful, we really enjoyed the tour of the permaculture site and learning about how the site evolved and how the community lives. I would definitely recommend this accommodation and would love to come back in the summer. We enjoyed mooching around Totnes too and took a drive to the coast for a walk and fish and chips. Great holiday, don't hesitate to book this place :)

    Lucy2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had the loveliest time staying in this yurt on the Landmatters site. It's set in beautiful countryside with lots of walks and easy access to local attractions such as Dartmouth, Totnes etc. Brainy was very welcoming and provided us with all the information needed to settle in over the coming days. We met a few other people that either lived or were staying at Landmatters who were very friendly and helpful too. Brainy recommended some fantastic walks which meant we were able to enjoy parts of Devon we hadn't experienced before. The yurt is incredibly cosy and well equipped. It was great to stay somewhere so removed from all the normal tourist crowds during high season. Staying in this yurt was a unique experience that I would recommend to anyone. Thank you for an unforgettable weekend, it was so nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of every day life and enjoy the quietness of the countryside.

    Laura2016-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • This a perfect spot for those who love glamping - cosy and peaceful with great countryside walks - just half an hour's walk along a track to The Maltsters Arms in Tuckenhay. :)

  • We had a wonderful stay at the yurt. It is set in some truly spectacular scenery. It is very comfortable, cosy and warm. The family are really welcoming. We enjoyed a fantastic walk to Totnes, stopping off at a vineyard along the way to try out some local wine, and then followed the river Dart up to Totnes. There are also some great pubs along the way, Maltsters Arms in Tuckenhay is great and lovely food. There are lots of fantastic walks in this area and beautiful beaches.

    Sophie2016-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Such an amazing stay at this beautiful yurt! We were cosy, and peaceful and surrounded by nature! The views were wonderful whilst eating accessible to good roads for Dartmouth, Totnes and Plymouth. Maren and her family were so kind and really wonderful to talk to about the project. We would suggest arriving in day light so you do go the right way from the car park, we did take a different path but Craig to the rescue came to find us to get us settled in. Thanks again for a brilliant stay. Just what we needed.

    Lisa2016-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I had a wonderful stay at Landmatters - very sad to leave! Maren and Brains introduced themselves to us when we arrived, showed us the basics and then pretty much left us to it. The yurt is gorgeous - clean, cosy and has everything you need, and the bed is very comfy! If you're looking for peace, quiet and simplicity - definitely stay here.

    Emily2017-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • There are some lovely views which are not apparent in the pictures. Maren was great with communication and she showed us around. The Yurt was pretty cool.

    Jack2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fab time at the yurt. It was so peaceful and relaxing with a great view. Camping without the hassle! Maren's partner, Brains, looked after us really well and the communal meal was great. The local area has beautiful walks and beaches. The only problem was we could only stay 2 nights as would have loved to stay a week!

  • Our stay with Paul and Lynnie was just fantastic! This newly opened B&B has 3 beautiful rooms (each decorated in different colour theme) and the breakfast was just amazing; home-made fresh fruit smoothies, warm bread, smoked kippers, sautéed veggies and eggs filled us for the entire day. Lennie is a fantastic chef while Paul was very helpful with everything and we had a nice morning walk to the river near by. We would definitely stay with them again when we return to Dartmouth area!

Quirky, comfortable, unique - Fingals Upper Millhouse is all of these. There is something ancient, intangible & relaxing in the magic of this place. Built around lush gardens in a sheltered, sun-drenched valley close to the Dart river, this is South Devon at its very best. The owners live close by in the rambling old farmhouse but leave you to get on with it. The Lower Mill House and Upper Mill House, work particularly well together for two families or one large family.

A luxurious ultra-modern B&B overlooking the River Dart and the village of Stoke Gabriel, built in 2010, is one of very few B&Bs rated 5* Gold Award by the English Tourist Board and offers a warm and cosy welcome to all visiting stunning South Devon. Prices quoted do not include breakfast. The award-winning breakfast option may be requested on arrival and will be charged extra at £10 per person per breakfast. Guests have use of the Guest Lounge (see photos) and House Outdoor Patio
  • WOW! This MUST be the best B&B in the world!! Certainly the best we have stayed in by miles! It is a new property, tastefully decorated with beautiful oak fixtures and furniture everywhere. The bed was heavenly comfortable and our bedroom just sheer luxury. There is a huge guest lounge with big-screen TV with the full package, games and even a piano for guests to play. Also a guest conservatory and a huge outside patio with table, chairs, settees coffee table, swing seat and parasol. The view from the B&B are just stunning. It is elevated with plenty of parking and looks over the village and the River Dart with a backdrop of rolling Devon lush scenery. We went kayaking on the river from the village quay-five minutes walk away – where there is also a restaurant with outside tables by the river bank. There are two other places to eat in the village, one an olde-worlde superb pub – the other a fine dining restaurant. We went on to Dartmoor, on to the beach, walking on the coastal path and visited Agatha Christie’s house in the next village. We can’t wait to come back here. Ayda & Sam

  • Most welcoming hosts. We had such a pleasant stay and didn't want to come home... We were upgraded to a balcony suite as this wasn't being used at that time. This really is a spectacular place to stay with stunning views of the village and the river dart. The photos for this b&b don't do it justice! I would highly recommend booking a room with a balcony. Didn't make us feel uncomfortable at all being in their home like a lot of b&bs out there. Breakfast was unreal. Every choice you can imagine. (Better than hotel standard if I'm honest). Everything from eggs benedict to fresh fruit. Dave and Helen are lovely people and helped us with directions and places to visit. Already recommended this place and look forward to staying here again in the near future. P.s : don't bother cleaning your car though if you plan to drive around and explore as there is many country lanes!!

  • We had a lovely stay. The house is beautiful and stays cool in the summer thanks to being in the trees. The terrace gets the sun long into the evening. We had some lovely BBQs. Stoke Gabriel is lovely. We enjoyed walking through the woods to the mill pond where our son enjoyed crabbing while we had a drink in the sun. Lots of beaches and things to do nearby too. Really recommend!

  • This place is a real secluded gem, it feels very private and is a home from home with helpful extras around the house. We were sad to leave, you can take a beautiful easy walk into the village from the property along the river it's a great location to explore the surroundings area, such a shame we could only stay for four days. The property interior is tastefully done to a very high spec... Loved loved loved it!! Definitely worth visiting the national trust greenway property if you stay.

  • My family and I had a fantastic stay at this beautiful house. It is very clean and feels like a loved home. We had plenty of space and everything that we could need. There are beautiful trees all around and everything seems to welcome you. The parking is at a pretty steep incline in front of the stairs so just be sure to use your handbrake. We had a bit of a struggle bringing all of our belongings up and down the stairs but it was definitely worth it. Just be careful if it rains because they can be slippery. We spent one of our days exploring Totnes and had a great time. It is pretty close to the house and there is a lot of shopping and many places to eat. I highly recommend Pie Street's steak and ale pie and their beef dripping chips. We also spent a day and drove out to the Eden Project. It's about a two hour drive but completely worth it. We had a lovely day out and then we're very happy to come back to such a comfortable house. You can definitely tell that this house is cherished and very well taken care of. There is everything there to make you feel welcome including books, games, and comfortable bedding. I highly recommend a stay here and will hope to come back again!

  • Overcreek is a well located and well resourced cottage in a peaceful location. The views from the property are stunning and inside it is a beautifully furnished and comfortable cottage. Brian was a.good host who remained in regular communication with us before and during our stay. Stoke Gabriel village is a fifteen minute walk from the cottage and there are two friendly pubs and a shop there. I would recommend this property for a peaceful getaway.

    Jennifer2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Overcreek cottage for just 4 nights in July, which was definitely not long enough! The house has been renovated to a beautiful standard with all the mod cons and really tasteful decor. The beds were extremely comfortable and there was no outside noise, guaranteeing a peaceful stay. The living areas are perfectly equipped to host a lovely evening meal, inside or out. Our first evening we took a stroll around the millpool in to Stoke Gabriel to get a feel for the local area and stopped off for a pint at the Church House Inn. I definitely recommend taking the kayak out in late afternoon for beautiful views and warm evening sun- just be careful of the tide! There's a local shop that stocks essentials but I'd recommend stopping at a supermarket on your way down to stock up. We explored the local area visiting Dartmouth and Brixham. I recommend Rockfish in Brixham for a great view and posh fish and chips. Hire a boat from Dittisham and drive up to the mouth of the Dart for great views and a fun trip, we even caught site of the steam train! On your return, stop for a drink in the Ferry Boat Inn. We didn't have time to Visit Agatha Christie's home but have heard this is a must! Brian was a great host, really quick to respond to my queries and super polite. I really recommend this home for a quintessential British retreat.

    Ginny2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Overcreek was superb in every way! Brian was fantastic. His instructions from getting there to getting around to local recommendations were fantastic and on point. We had one query during our stay which Brian sorted out for us immediately. The house is in the perfect location whether you want to explore Devon or just cosy up at the house. Trust me we will be visiting again!
