Places to stay in Costa Rica
Located in the heart of town, ten minute walk to museums, National Theater, the mail Building and Central Avenue. The place has lots of light and a beautiful mountain view. It is spacious, has a full size bed and a pullover couch. Fully equipped kitchen with all the amenities and bathroom with hot water shower. The building does not have a garage or parking space. The address is pinned in google maps. It is self check in. No sexual tourism permitted. Read my reviews guests are very honest!
Self Check in Studio apartment, with full size bed and a pull over couch , internet and cable tv. Ideal if you come for vacation, and want to make one day trips to the mountains or to the beach, its also perfect for your first or last nights in Costa Rica, so you can get the feeling of busy down town. If you come for medical tourism it is about 15 minute drive to most hospitals and dental clinics, it is in the middle of the city. Located on the 5th floor, there is elevator, it has a great view of the mountains to the north side of town, and its located very close to all main museums and attractions in the heart of San Jose.
The place is located in the heart of the city and there is much traffic and people around the neighborhood specially in week days. San José is a very busy city, it gets very crowded during the day and at night gets lonely. It has a big population of homeless , so you should not be over confident when walking around the city. Although we are a small country every day in San José more then one million people go through the city on transit to work , school or hospitals, many located in the great metropolitan area. The apartment is located near hotels, restaurants, parks and a five minute walk to all the museums (Gold, Jade, National, Art) . Like any city that you are getting to know , you should ask for the zones to avoid, you find instructions right here if you read " Getting Around" (Guidebook). This place is just three blocks away from central avenue where you can find all the museums, restaurants and nice shops, it is a nice street walk!... There you can see the beautiful National Theater, on calle 2 and avenida 2 and you will find the Mail Building ,which is beautiful, is just two block away , both land marks are a "most see" in San José. You might want to go take a peak at the Hotel Costa Rica, which is the first hotel built in San Jose in the early 1900's, now it has been fully renovated and it was inaugurated last year. If you walk a bit west on second avenue you will find the Cathedral and Central Park, on the right the beautiful Melico Salazar theater. You can also find very nice souvenir shops just a couple of blocks away, or if you are more of an adventurer you should not miss the Central Market. The Jade and gold Museums , are a most if you like museums!!... Both within a 5 minute walk.
  • Excellent place. I stayed here for a week while waiting for a special flight because of Coronavirus. The space has everything you need, is very clean, and is pretty central to most downtown San José spots if you’re a tourist. Thanks for the hospitality!

  • Marie was a wonderful host and she helped me during a hard time returning to Costa Rica. The place is perfect for a stay, close to several attractions and easy to reach from the airport. You also have a great view of the Poas Volcano. Check-in process was smooth and the overall experience of my stay was positive.

  • Great communication, great location and super clean 👌🏽

  • The apartment has everything you need and more to have a pleasant stay, plus everything was very clean and tidy. On the location, it is central and you can walk to most parks and museums in the city. Marie was a pleasant host, who answered all my doubts and recommended several places to visit and eat in San José. Although the apartment is nice, the appearance of the area where it is located not so much, that would be the only category with 4 stars. From there on out, everything was excellent, yes I would return to stay with Marie.

  • This is an absolutely magical place to stay, especially for first time visitors to Costa Rica like us. We were visited by capuchin monkeys, an iguana, red macaws and wake-up calls from howler monkeys! And the blue morpho butterflies were a special treat, as was the pool to offer relief from those hot days! All in all, a wonderful experience!

    Richie2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved the tree house! We truly miss being there, we miss the comfy bed, the amazing monkeys that greeted us every morning and sometimes throughout the day 😀 Thomas & Lilli left us to do what we desired but were also there to help us in anyway when needed. We cannot wait to return!!! 😀 Thank you for sharing your wonderful piece of paradise with us!

    Jodie2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse is such a unique and relaxing experience, you'll never want to leave. We return every few years to enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife and we see something new each visit. Thomas & Lili are wonderful, highly responsive hosts and each stay we find more to love about the area. It is a very special place!

    Marie2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • If you are going to Costa Rica for the wildlife sights and sounds there is no better place to stay then at Thomas and Lili's treehouse! This place was an oasis of relaxation and excitement. We seen many species of monkey, iguanas, toucans and many other incredible birds. Playa de Macha was beautiful and our favorite out of the 6 beaches we visited. We snorkled in tide pools and enjoyed this more secluded beach. If you are an active person the hike is not bad. We spent time at the pool daily. It is lovely, well maintained and served as a much needed cooling station. Thomas was an attentive host and assisted us frequently. The treehouse was a trip of a lifetime experience! Pura Vida xoxo

    Jolene2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay if you are looking for a bit of an adventure. Thomas was great at replying to questions right away. We saw some monkey's which was awesome!

    Shavonne2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a fabulous place to get away from it all and relax in paradise. The tree house is right in the middle of a nature lover's paradise. On this stay we saw toucans, scarlet macaws, beautiful butterflies, white-faced capuchin monkeys, a lone howler monkey, and a troop of squirrel monkeys who entertained us for an hour by playing on the roof and the deck. More fun than a barrel of monkeys! We also spotted a sloth hanging out at the little park at the base of the hill. Can't wait to go back!

CORONA UPDATE We would like to offer stranded tourists in Costa Rica an accomodation. Please check out our updated pricing for long stays! No children under 5 years of age for safety reasons. The Tree House is hand-crafted, one of 3 casitas and 2 treehouses at the Bio Thermales natural resort organically integrated into our 35 acre rainforest. Guests enjoy free 24 hour access to the 12 natural hot and cool springs pools of various temperatures and rainforest trails.
Please message us if we will be your first or last destination in Costa Rica. We highly recommend booking on weekdays for more privacy and tranquility, as we have more day visitors from 9 am to 6 pm to our hot springs on the weekends, especially Sundays. If your reservation includes a Sunday, we highly recommend planning a day outing to the many wonderful nearby activities. We are three hours north of San Jose (airport), 45 minutes east of Fortuna and Volcano Arenal, and the many activities there and nearby. Guests enjoy 24/day access* to our hot springs and trails in our 35 acre rainforest at no extra charge. The pools are cleaned every morning starting at 6 am, but one hot spring will always be available. Many factors may dictate scheduling, including weather. We do not charge for children 17 and under -- but we will not accept reservations for the Tree House for families with children under 5 years old for whom a 20 foot fall from the balcony would be very serious. Our hot springs are ancient “deep Earth” sources that bubble up through the rainforest floor, laden with mineral-rich waters that have been in the Earth for at least 10,000 years. Our waters are rich in bicarbonates, calcium and magnesium, low in sulfur, and slightly acidic -- qualities shared by many of the world's best hot springs. Five of our 9 organic form hot springs pools are located in the rainforest, and 4 hot springs pools as well as a small and a large cool spring swimming pool are located in a meadow, surrounded by rainforest (see below for more information). The small and large cool springs pools both have water slides, and there is a small water slide in one of the shallow and moderate temperature pools for small children. The Tree House is built to strict Costa Rican building codes, but as with all tree houses, there is some movement when the wind blows, and this could be uncomfortable for people very sensitive to motion sickness. You may see our other listings on Airbnb at: Tucano Casita (Toucan Casita) is listed as "Rainforest Casita with Hot Springs": airbnb.com/rooms/30358 Mariposa Casita (Butterfly Casita) is listed as "Rainforest Casita2 with Hot Springs" airbnb.com/rooms/51518 Colibri Casita (Hummingbird Casita) is listed as "Rainforest Casita3 with Hot Springs" airbnb.com/rooms/1896911 Tree House: "Rainforest Tree House with Hot Springs" airbnb.com/rooms/50435 You can check availability of each accommodation by clicking on the "Calendar" tab above the main photo on each listing. Tree House features: (see floor-plan for all details): • Perched high among the rainforest trees, the Tree House has large screened areas for circulation of naturally cooler breezes. It also has fans. • All onsite hot springs and recreation activities included, including 24 hour access to the hot springs and cool spring swimming pools • The Master bedroom with a Queen sized bed with orthopedic mattress and hypoallergenic bedding is in a loft • One the main floor, two twin-sized beds that can double as settees with hypoallergenic bedding • Hand-crafted rustic furniture from naturally harvested trees on the land • Main floor kitchen with refrigerator, micro-wave, coffee maker, basic kitchenware • Bathroom with flash on-demand hot-water heater • Wrap around balcony for relaxing and animal and bird watching • Maid service every 3 days included • Laundry service at extra charge per load • Short walk to rainforest and hot springs pools • No telephone or television • WiFi internet for your laptop -- if reliable 24 hour internet is essential to you, please message us for suggestions. • Hosts Kathy and Bernie live onsite • Languages: English, Spanish, German, limited French One time $10 cleaning fee; thereafter housecleaning services every 3 days are free. Bio Thermales Hot Springs features: • Our hot springs pools are all-natural mineral water just as it flows from the Earth • Rainforest Pools from 90° - 105°F (31° - 40°C) • Grotto Pools in meadow flow from the 112°F/45°C source pool onward into two larger and progressively cooler pools which are handicap-accessible and suitable for small children. • Cool Pool in meadow is 90°F/31°C mineral water flowing from the thermal creek • 2 Swimming pools with continuous flow of natural cold spring water (88 degrees) - one is 1 to 1.5 meters deep, and the larger is 3 meters deep. • Bathhouse in meadow with handicap accessible bathrooms and showers • “Ranchos” – roofed tables with concrete floors and grills for picnics Other Activities on our 35 acre rainforest reserve: • Bird-watching: many types of toucans, oropendulas, parrots, hummingbirds, and the rare green macaw • Rainforest: enjoy it from the casita porch or hot springs pools, take easy walks on paths or more adventurous hikes • Fossils – enjoy our collection or hunt (gently) for your own • Wildlife: two-toed sloths, iguanas, capuchin and mantled howler monkeys, tree frogs, birds, butterflies, and many others. We are a 45 minute drive from the many activities in Fortuna and Volcano Arenal -- such as ziplines, hanging bridges, white water rafting, slow river floats or kayaking through wildlife sanctuaries -- or a 1.5 hour drive to La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Volcano Poas. Bio Thermales Hot Springs is open to the public for day use of the hot springs, and most of our day visitors are Costa Ricans, so you may also meet new Tico friends. Bio Thermales is generally not crowded, however, except on major holidays and Sundays. Food/Meals: The Tree House has a kitchen. There are many restaurants and a good supermarket within a 15 minute drive. Traditional Costa Rican meals can be delivered from a local caterer for very reasonable prices (Costa Rican food is tasty but not spicy). Otherwise, for those without cars, we can call a taxi or synchronize a food shopping trip when we go to town for errands. Driving from SJO airport: Please message us before booking if we are your first and/or last destination in Costa Rica. We recommend at least a small 4 wheel drive car. The last 3 kilometers are country roads. Three hours of daylight are needed to safely drive here from the SJO airport before sunset at 5:30 pm. The drive through mountainous cloud forests is splendid in daylight, but prone to fog and rain, especially at night, creating hazardous visibility conditions after dark. Finding our countryside location will also be far easier if you arrive the first time before sunset. If your plane lands in the morning to noon, you can drive here directly from the airport. Otherwise, it is safer to book a room near the airport on your first night, or ask us to book a private driver ($145) and have a rental car delivered at no extra charge. Last night in Costa Rica: Driving directly to the SJO airport on the same day is possible if you book a flight in the afternoon. Please be aware that you must be at the airport 2.5 hours before departure. If you have an early morning departing flight it is basically necessary to stay near the airport on the night before.
We are in the countryside in a non-touristy rural area of family farms, orchards and rainforest, off the beaten tourist track. The last 2 km are unpaved country roads. Guests should expect a natural environment, integrated into the rainforest, with the usual wildlife native to a tropical rainforest (except there are no large jungle cats like jaguars). We are a 45 minute drive from the many activities in Fortuna/Volcano Arenal, including volcano hikes, ziplines, swimming in the pristine waters below the La Fortuna Waterfall, white water rafting and slow "safari float" rafting to see monkeys, sloths and other animals. Closer to us is a slow river raft tour, rainforest hikes or horseback riding, and a visit to the Iguana Bridge with many large iguanas within a 15 minute drive.
  • We had a fantastic time at Bio Thermales! It's a great place for nature lovers. From the tree house, we saw oropendolas, toucans, hummingbirds, lizards and frogs. And we loved having access to the hot springs at night. The WiFi in the tree house was also solid — much better than we expected — and was suitable for streaming Netflix and video conferences. The place was clean, but if you're afraid of bugs, this might not be the place for you. (And Costa Rica might not be the right destination in general.) It's a hot part of the country, but the fans kept us comfortable at night. The hiking trail was about 2 km through the forest. I wouldn't hesitate to come back — it's a nice getaway that might be less crowded due to it being outside of La Fortuna.

  • The deluxe tree house where we stayed was absolutely amazing. It was clean, the beds were very comfortable and it had everything we needed for our stay of over 5 days. Quite an amazing place!

  • The treehouse was a beautiful getaway! Great hot springs and hiking right on the property!

  • FABULOUS! My boyfriend and I stayed in one of their treehouses March 10th-March14th... Was the perfect amount of time and perfect for the first half of our trip! Very much a glamping experience... Be prepared for bugs, frogs & lizards! But it all added to the experience... The grounds are beautiful and the hot springs were utilized by us daily... perfect after a long hike at a nearby waterfall! There’s a grill too so we went to a local grocery store and grilled dinner every night! We had so much fun & Pepe the grounds dog is forever with us! We saw monkeys, beautiful birds & many big bright blue butterflies... I got used to all the sounds and it made it hard for me to sleep when I got home! An experience I’ll never forget!💙 Thank you Kathy & Bernardo!!

    Danielle2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly special. You can see wildlife on your backdoor. The hot springs are fantastic and available to you anytime, which came to be much appreciated. The meals we got were delicious and our hosts were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about everything around us. Would love to visit again

  • My girlfriend wanted to stay in a treehouse in Costa Rica for her birthday so i obviously had to make that happen for her. I noticed alot of tree houses on Airbnb Costa aren't actual tree houses, just houses built on stumps, but then I stumbled upon this one, and it looked real legit. Reception was very accommodating and gave us great directions and took us on a tour of the property when we arrived. We finally got to our tree house, and it was one of the coolest structures that i have ever laid my eyes on! The craftsmanship of the woodworking was unlike anything I've ever seen before (and I live in the Boreal forest of Northern Canada and I get to see some really expensive log homes). The tree house had everything i could ever want and more! Once we got settled in we decided to go check out the hot springs and my mind was blown, there were thermal pools everywhere in a gorgeous jungle settings and we had the whole place to ourselves! Felt like our own little private Narnia. As soon as the sun rises we heard the entire jungle wake up and the howler monkeys doing their thing. In addition to being a forest fire fighter, I'm also a professional photographer (insta@k_luhta) so having that much wildlife on the property was a dream come true! We saw Montezuma Oropendolas, toucans, iguanas, howler monkeys, and many other bird species that I haven't been able to identify yet. If you're into wildlife photography or bird watching, this is the place for you! 100000% would recommend a stay at the treehouse or anywhere on the property for that matter. If i ever make it back to Costa Rica, I will be sure to stop in again but for longer this time.

Beautiful, private villa with a fabulous ocean view and a secluded, infiniti pool. Very popular villa with both honeymooners and retired people. It is a private subdivision with 30 villas with support from rental managers and other staff. The villa is almost equal distant from both Liberia - LIR and San Jose - SJO airports. I believe it is easier to drive south from Liberia airport on a straight, scenic and paved highway 21.
The 3000 square feet villa is on a very private, 2/3 acre lot with ocean and rain forest views. The beautiful swimming pool is partially shaded by a picturesque "Corteza Amarillo" tree. The villa has "Almond Wood" hardwood floors in the living area including bedrooms. The full kitchen has black granite counter tops. All appliances, pots, silverware, china and coffeemaker are included in the kitchen. The gazebo has both gas Bar-B-Q and 4 burner electric cook-top with ocean views. Master bathroom has 2 large bowl sinks, large tub with no water jets, bidet and large windows with a view of the rain forest. The house a large, flat screen TV, amplifier with whole house, surround sound, speaker system. The house has 10 fans and air conditioning. The large master bedroom has a king bed and the second spacious suite has a full bath with two queen beds. The house is on a hill top with wonderful 120 degree views of Nicoya bay and the hilltop location gives one a unique sense of Privacy with no neighbor to look in. The subdivision is 3 miles from the ferry station but it is advisable to rent an SUV so short day trips to Nicoya, Samarra, Carillo, Tambor, Paqueras ( Tortuga island snorkeling ) can be done. Renters have access to a near by grocery and liquor store. The store also provides DVDs and books free of charge. Concierge service is also included. The "Roma del Mar" development has 2 private beaches and a private pier for fishing. There are numerous beaches close by (Playa Blanca 5 kms away) and a golf course at the Tambor Bay. A one time payment of $100 is required for cleaning the villa both before and after the rental. All day maid for cooking is available through the manager and a massage specialist manicurist/ pedicurist available - reservations through management. The internet access via a router in the villa is free. Location Description: Playa Naranjo, Puntarenas, Costa Rica (next to Cabo Blanco on the internet map site), Central America. Fly to Liberia Airport (Code: LIR). Two hours drive from Liberia airport and 5 minute drive from Puntarenas/Playa Naranjo Ferry.
The neighborhood is private, quite and away from busy tourist spots with plenty of things to do in the area. Our rental manager has a long list of optional tours
  • Stay here and plan to stick around the area, because Raj's villa is so shockingly gorgeous that you'll hardly want to leave. (We ended up canceling a 2-day trip inland to the volcano just because we wanted more time at the villa and in the nearby area.) The views from the villa are jaw dropping and it is absolutely the most gorgeous place I've ever stayed by far. I inadvertently became a birder on this trip, the amount of birds to view from the patio was insane -- parrots, pelicans, frigates, and all kinds of other beautiful tropical birds. You'll see iguanas on the roadside and beaches, and definitely hear the howler monkeys if not see them. The villa was very clean, and between Raj (owner) and Noelia (rental manager), we had all the information we needed within reach of a quick text message or email both before and during the trip. Raj's place is really spacious and open, I thought the pool was also bigger than it looked in the photos. Kitchen well stocked and nice cozy linens on the beds and good quality towels. Air conditioning is only in the bedrooms, so staying in the pool on hot afternoons was ideal to stay cool. Definitely follow Raj's instruction to get groceries on your drive from the airport, and rent a 4x4. The local minimart is well stocked with basics, but if you plan to cook much you'll want to hit up the larger stores on the way. The local restaurant Aroma del Mar is also amazingly good, and the beach is a short walk (down a fairly steep hill) or an even shorter drive away. The tours offered by Roma del Mar are top notch (we took the Tortuga Island tour and loved it). You can also enjoy a massage by Anja on the pool deck and drive about an hour to a nearby waterfall that you'll likely have to yourself (Karen Mogenson Reserve). The bang for you buck on Raj's place is incomparable. Thank you Raj and all the staff of Roma del Mar!

  • Lovely month in Costa Rica. Such a lovely view! It was hard leave to pool area but we enjoyed hikes around Roma Del Mar daily exploring the beaches. Great restaurant on site and very fun and help neighbors and staff.

  • A great villa with fantastic views!! There is everything you could possible need in the villa. Would definitely recommend.

    Darren2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to experience Costa Rica! Clean, well stocked kitchen and modern amenities. The Infinity pool was very nice especially at the end of day. Raj the host and Noelia the property manager were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. We highly recommended this property to anyone who wants more than a hotel stay.

    Wendy2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • You won't find another place as wonderful as this Villa. We were pampered by the hosts. The greatest luxury was swimming in the pool and watching the Pacific in front of you.

    Earl2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • You should stay here. Fantastic space and views, beautifully maintained. Thanks Raj Richard K

    Richard2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Raj was extremely helpful with instructions on getting to the house and even had someone meet us at the ferry to escort us to the home since we arrived at night. We wanted a relaxing home that was more remote and this was the perfect spot! I would recommend arriving during the day and be mindful of the ferry schedule while making your flight arrangements. The home and amenities look exactly like the pictures. We loved sitting by the pool and enjoying the view.

    Brittany2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wow!!!! Its True what everyone says The View is Beyond anything I could have imagined and then some! The House was so well stocked, Towels after towels, every amenity you need in the kitchen. The Furniture all comfy and stylish. Raj was so attentive and helpful with things to do, and see. We hiked the Karen Mogensen Reserve Waterfall and it was truly amazing. The house is very remote and its literally like you're driving into the JurassicPark movie at the entrance of Roma Del Mar, but my teenage sons had a big time and a a great learning experience. This New Jersey Family got a whole new perspective on driving in Costa Rica. I recommend On Airbnb The 10 Hidden Waterfalls with Antonio. If you're up adventure that's the one you want to do. We also did the Bioluminescence with Vigdis and Tom down in Paquera.Very cool. Villa is also real close to the ferry which is helpful to get you over to other experiences. Aroma del Mar delicious food, but was a little disappointed they are no longer serving pizza, as I'd read rave reviews. But the beachfront and kayaking and tire swing also a nice surprise. Jenny was also very helpful and accommodating with anything we might need. But My Mom is already trying to come back by herself she loved it so much..Truly Spectacular Villa!! Check in and out with Noelia was a breeze. Thank You Raj for being a Phenomenal host and sharing this beautiful home. Pura Vida!!! :)

I can help you get the most of your entire Costa Rica vacation. You can expect expert advice on your travels, relocation and real estate needs. I have been very successful living and owning in Costa Rica. Staying with us you can pick up a copy of Phil Baker's Costa Rica Now / Travel Live and Own in Paradise. 400 pages plus and perfect for those interested in relocating to Costa Rica. Location ~ ~ We are located in the beautiful coffee hills of San Isidro de Heredia. Our neighborhood is one of the finest in Costa Rica with a mix of ex-patriots and Costa Ricans living on large estates and smaller homes. We are 30 minutes from the San Jose airport and the Museums of San Jose. Downtown Heredia with luxury malls and high-end restaurants is six miles away. Poas, Irazu and Barva volcanoes are an easy day trip away. Village of San Isidro ~ ~ A $2 taxi ride away is the village of San Isidro with banks, a large supermarket with covered parking, restaurants and coffee shops bakeries and a beautiful Sunday morning farmer's market along with one of the most majestic churches in Costa Rica. Coffee ~ ~ A rare treat - coffee harvested and dried in a truly artisanal old-world style. Our coffee fruit is sun dried for 100 days. Not sent to a mill to be strip washed and dried in mechanical dryers and later sent for processing in an automated warehouse. We pay our pickers double to harvest our coffee fruit at the peak of ripeness. The natural drying process triples production costs but leaves the raw beans coated with honey ready for roasting. Restaurants ~ ~ A secret spot. Only a 5-minute ride away is Los Potreros with its city light views and a large variety of fantastic local dishes with generous portions at reasonable prices. Excellent food and good service. Another secret spot only ten minutes away is Sibu Chocolates where you can lunch and sample chocolate truffles made from Caribbean cocoa. They offer a lunch-included tour. Transportation ~ ~ Our neighborhood Uber driver Jose takes you to your destination, wait for you there and then bring you home. Other Uber drivers do not do that. A local taxi to San Isidro is only $2 and arrive in minutes. Buses leave every 15 minutes to Heredia and San Jose, from where you can board direct buses to all parts of Costa Rica. The intentional airport is 30 minutes away. Attractions ~ ~ La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Rain Forest Adventure zip lines are both easily doable day trips as well as Doka Estates Coffee Tour and Poas Volcano National Park and Braulio Carrillo National Park.
Staying with us gives you a chance to feel what it's like to live in the real Costa Rica. Our neighborhood is one of the finest in Costa Rica with a mix of ex-patriots and Costa Ricans living on large estates and smaller homes. The small town of San Isidro is 5 minutes away and has many conveniences such as a new large supermarket. You can walk up the street toward the National Park and if you are lucky you can see white face monkeys. The northeast part of the central valley is the first area to receive the prevailing Caribbean winds purified by miles of Braulio Carrillo National Park cloud forests bordering our neighborhood.
  • The property and gardens are beautiful! Perfect to relax for a while and listen to nature. The dogs on the property are very friendly and playful. We order food from several restaurants that arrive at the gate and all delicious. We had a great time, thanks!

  • Phil's place is a paradise perfect as a home base for adventures all around San Jose! Start your mornings with the sun pouring in through the eave windows of this sparkling clean abode and a hot cup of coffee then come back to watch the sun set over the valley from the observation deck before nodding off in the comfy bed. I don't usually drink coffee but I made an exception for the ranch grown coffee and even brought some back for family, friends, and myself. Be sure to follow Phil's restaurant and activity recommendations to make the most of your trip and enjoy the local area. We can't say enough great things about our stay here!

    Taylor2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay! Loved the location - the ranch is beautiful and we loved exploring with this as a home base. Would definitely come back.

  • The place is wonderful you have to know it, with beautiful views, Diego is super friendly

  • We had a fantastic time at Phil’s Airbnb! He was very knowledgeable and shared his insights and opinions thoughtfully. There were so many extras including the fresh roasted coffee and beautiful birds of paradise flowers. We loved it so much we stayed 2 extra days! We will be back!

    Jenn2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing views of the mountains and the city from the deck. Phil is a great host and we loved staying in the ranch. We strolled the gardens and the waterfalls in the morning. Very serene and quiet. Very well maintained front garden! Side note: Few roads on that area are bad so better to drive in daylight and google maps messes with the routes too, taking private roads that are closed sometimes

    Kruthi2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Phil's property was beautiful and lush. We enjoyed walking through the gardens. Many beautiful spots to sit and enjoy nature. We felt very safe there. Phil recommended a certain driver to get around who was completely awesome. Driver Jose took us to La Paz Waterfall Gardens and to local souvenir shops. Overall great experience. Phil recommended Restaurante Casa Azul. It was so delicious that we ate there two nights in a row. If ever in the area again, we would stay here.

    Juls2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Phil was an excellent host! Not only is his place conveniently located overlooking San José, it is also a working farm with some of the best coffee you have ever tasted. Ever. Wow! Beautiful manicured hiking trails with coffee trees, a creek, oranges, and all kinds of tropical plants. There is a beautiful hiking trail loop and even a deck up high so you can enjoy the view in every direction. Great recommendations on where to go in the area. Excellent place to stay the night you arrive or the night before you depart or as a home-base if you are visiting the Central Valley. Highly recommended.

  • Thank you Jessica and Justin! This place blew me away. We took a last minute trip for the long weekend after 40+ days in self-quarantine during the pandemic. The only problem was we didn’t have anyone to look after our cat, but the hosts generously accepted him as a guest along with us. I desperately needed to see the sea and sit outside endlessly, and this place was exactly what we were looking for. The views from the balcony were breathtaking. I loved sitting out there all day, reading and meditating and letting the nature recharge me. I wish I would have been able to stay out there all night, but after sun down the bugs made it unpleasant. As other reviewers commented, the bugs did invite themselves inside at night, despite our best effort to shut the doors before dark and leave off the lights. I found the house super warm in the evening, but that was my fault because I prioritized fresh air over air conditioning at this stay, later to realize without the doors open there is no fresh breeze. There was hot water for the shower (others said there wasn’t) and big, cozy towels to dry off with. I found the plumbing a little wonky, as the water pressure was weak and the bathroom did smell a bit. Overall, those were minor things considering the views, access to town, and access to the beach. Jessica was so communicative and helpful, I was truly impressed with the hospitality. We enjoyed the Britt coffee and chocolates that were left for us so much. Bottom line, if you are looking for an authentic experience with gorgeous views and a relaxing outdoor set up, I highly recommend this place! If you are bothered by bugs or the heat expected from being at the beach, then keep it moving. We, however, will be back!

    Samantha2020-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • It was such a beautiful place to relax. It definitely exceeded my expectations and had a gorgeous view. It’s very easy to navigate around. You definitely need to be careful driving because there’s a lot of hills and potholes but it’s easy to walk to local places. We loved the comfort of the bed and we were grateful the hosts were approachable and went out of their way to help us.

    Celest2020-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • The responsiveness (provided before and during) plus the hospitality provided during our stay were exceptional!

    Klick2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding airbnb! We stayed in the top floor of this beautiful home located at the top of the hill...feels like you are living with the birds! The view was amazing and could hear the crash of the waves and smell the ocean! Wish we could have stayed longer!!

    Penny2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the perfect place for a peaceful getaway! Also close enough to Jaco if you want to experience something more lively with more of a crowd. I personally enjoyed waking up to the sunrise, and the greetings from birds. I was able to get some writing done before heading out to explore. Everyone in the neighborhood is so friendly and welcoming. Justin and Jessica were so attentive and always responsive, ensuring that we had a comfortable stay. They were beyond helpful, helped us book tours and activities and a driver after I had last minute complications with the car rental. Overall 5 star stay with great host! We had some buggy visitors but that’s expected when you’re in their environment. Lol

Stay in a cozy 1 BR or 2 BR, upscale Costa Rican-style bungalows with a pristine pool at your doorstep. Look out over the trees to the Pacific ocean from your private balcony and listen to the birds and howler monkeys that call the gardens of Casa Tranquila home.
This one-bedroom architect-designed bungalow comes fully equipped for short stays and month-long getaways. It's perfect for honeymooners or families with up to two kids, as well as small groups of friends. The kitchenette has everything you'll need to eat at home if you wish. The bungalow has a comfy bed, air conditioning throughout, a daybed that fits two people in the living space. The bathroom has a huge glassed-in shower with a big window to the gardens, where monkeys pass regularly. Just outside your door is a cool swimming pool and wooden deck for relaxing, as well as plenty of hammocks. Casa Tranquila was designed with sustainability in mind. The property takes advantage of sea breezes for passive cooling, minimizing the need for A/C. The gray water from your bungalow feeds into the trees and other plants that surround the property instead of washing into the ocean.
Casa Tranquila is located on a hill in a quiet, residential neighborhood of Tamarindo – far enough from the busy downtown that you won't be kept awake by the parties but close enough that you're just a 10 minute walk away from the center of town or 14 minutes to the beach.
  • Awesome people and great location! Definitely doesn’t disappoint, we had a great time!

    Rikki2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jose was quick to recommend many fun and interesting thing to do around Tamarindo. The property was great and well kept and the pool was a cherry on top of a great stay. We could hear some construction noise in the mornings but it wasn’t too loud and you were able to tune it out easily, but it was nice to have a little distance from the center of town. If you see the kitty, he is really nice and you should give him a little pet :)

    Sydney2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is an easy walk to shops, restaurants and the beach. Jose is a wonderful host.

    Sharon2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at José’s place for a week. He truly has set up a great place to unwind. The cottage was cute and had everything that we needed. His property is beautiful. His plants and trees and pool make for a very relaxing atmosphere. He is very knowledgeable about Costa Rica and obviously cares very deeply for his country. It was great fun to talk with him. José and his family made us feel very welcome offering suggestions on local things to do. When it was time for us to leave he set up a taxi for us. We didn’t have a car but didn’t mind walking. There is a hill involved but it wasn’t a big deal. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Jose’s place to others.

    Lilla2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean. 10-15 minute walk to a fabulous beach with lots of restaurants- good food. It’s a bit of a hike up a dusty road but that’s the same as many places in Tamarindo unless you can afford $400 night. It comes with great pool and is very secluded, apart from the construction going on around it. That being said, we weren’t around during the day anyway. Jose was very quick to respond to any questions. You should be aware that there is more than one Casa Tranquila in Tamarindo. Our Ecotrans driver got lost for a bit.

    Lauchlin2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I went for our first trip with our 8 month old daughter and had an amazing time. Jose was very accommodating and the pool was fantastic. We rented a golf cart for our stay and it really helped with getting around. We would definitely recommend staying at Jose's!!!

    Wesley2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Joses place is just fantastic. Its a quick walk to town and the beach. The pool is amazing to relax at. Jose himself is a fantastic host, full of tips and advice and clearly has a great deal of intrest in the local community and future of the town. Highly recommend.

    Stuart2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to explore Tamarindo without being in the busy centre. Little private, relaxing escape with great accommodation and pool. Slight hill getting to it but we managed with sling and buggy for evening meals. José was a great host and gave local tips for family friendly places and was on hand for any questions we had. Loved our stay.

  • Lisandro and Alexandra were both very helpful hosts with quick responses, including arranging for an ATV to be delivered to our door. Sara was onsite daily to offer daily cleaning and help as well. The apartments are modern, clean, and private. The location is steps away from paradise. What a perfect find.

Located in Costa Rica’s Southern Pacific Zone, La Luz sits atop a mountain overlooking the stunning Baru River Valley. The property sits on 12 acres in the gated community of Valle de los Caballos- surrounded by sweeping vista views, bamboo lined drives, waterfalls, and a jungle that‘s home to the wildest flora and fauna of the area.
Finished with design conscious, sustainable materials and furniture from local craftsmen, La Luz is your sanctuary for a peaceful and cathartic experience. Through our floor-to-ceiling glass walls you’ll find toucans, several species of butterfly, and maybe a howler monkey or jungle cat. When it’s time to head to bed, you’ll rest easily with our air conditioned rooms, pillowtop mattresses, and Parachute bedding. The casa is outfitted with a full purpose kitchen, mini bar and washer/dryer. The casita is outfitted with a full purpose kitchenette and induction burner, refrigerator. Both spaces boast top of the line cook ware and bar ware.
  • La luz, as my favorite Airbnb experience, reminds me everything I like about Airbnb. I am having trouble putting into words just how beautiful La Luz truly once you see it is in person. As soon as you arrive, it becomes obvious that this Airbnb was the owners labor of love - every design detail intentional, all of his decorations serve a purpose. Aaron really cares about his guests, I can tell from the first message he send to the last, from everything he picked for the home, from a piece of art, to utensils, to cook wares, to the mattress, to the lights, to every piece of the furniture...It speaks to the type of person Aaron is, kind, tasteful, passionate, detail oriented... His place is remote and private, offering tranquility and the feeling that time has slowed down. There are fruit growing in the front yard, toucan flying through the trees. Beautiful butterfly hanging around all the time. Not only I appreciate all the beauty La luz has provided us, also the beauty of interaction with beautiful human. The property manager Chandra, she is such a care, loving, sweet, wise, cool, fun, amazing work being. We will never forget the time we spend with her. She invited us twice to her beautiful balcony, we sit there in front of the epic view of the valley, talking about her travel stories, our exploration, all the stories and thoughts regards to love... The second time she invited us to dance with her, we played our music and she is able to dance with any kinds of music. She was very patient and nice to teach me some balinese dance...The time we spent with Chandra was just simply inspiring, peaceful, beautiful and meaningful. Our experience in CR would not have been as immersive or special without Chandra’s guidance and hospitality. All in all, both the host and house exceeded our expectations in every way. We are so grateful we landed where we did with La luz. It inspired what do I want my future home to be. We will definitely miss Chandra and La Luz, so we will definitely be going back.

  • Awesome place, will go again!

    Marco2020-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful house up in the hills about 20 minutes from Dominical. Chandra and Aaron were very hospitable upon our arrival and throughout our stay. This is a really special house with a view that never got old! The pool was especially nice when it was warm outside (the majority of the time we were there since it was March). The entire house is very well furnished for doing cooking and laundry during our stay and everything was very clean. The bedroom mattress was very comfortable and the mini split AC in the bedroom worked well also. We woke up to the sunrise every morning out the windows (there are a lot of them!). Highly recommend.

    Christopher2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely house with everything you need and more. If you, like me, like things neat, tidy and beautiful this is the stay for you. It also has a nice pool and a nice garden area and a beautiful view. As we visited Costa Rica at its warmest it was a relief to stay at La Luz with its high location. Communication with host and the property manager was great!

    Sofie2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Very modern house in the middle of the jungle! The view was awesome. See you soon again! Be prepared of insects inside of the house, we had a nightly visit by a big spider in the bedroom :-D

    Hannes2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Is an amazing place to stay. A real jungle feeling with a minimalist look but yet very very comfortable. Loved the pool looking on to mountains and the full featured kitchen. It has a coffee grinder for those coffee lovers.

    Felipe2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful!!! If you are looking to stay in dominical area, you can’t go wrong with La Luz. Its one of the best properties we have ever stayed in. Beautiful Birds, Stars at night from your bed, views in the morning, comfort, peace are just some of the many things we experienced while our stay. Oh and pool is just cherry on top. Absolutely loved it and if we ever visit that area again we know where we are staying, thanks Chandra and Aaron for keep checking on us from time to time.

Our magic Dome is quiet and calm, perfect for those who prefer to avoid the masses and noise. It is separate from the other facilities and has a kitchen, a shower and an outdoor air bath surrounded by our young reforested forest. The view of Puntarenas and the starry sky at night is overwhelming. The dome has a special price since it is in the test phase. In our survey, they told us we could charge the couple $ 150 a night, so take advantage!
The Dome is simply unique. During the day, we recommend relaxing in our hammocks by the pool or simply doing things like hiking, visiting rivers or the canopy. We recommend downloading Google Star Map, then you can navigate through the stars, satellites and constellations. In New Moon, you will be impressed by the starry sky you can see from the bed and the view of Puntarenas as a chain of light and its surroundings. From 6 in the evening until 9 in the morning.
We hope you will not only be our guests but also become our friends, having the same aim: enjoying this beautiful country with the incredible flora and fauna and the very friendly locals or ‘ticos’ as the Costa Rican’s call themselves. Enjoy Costa Rica with all its nature and gentle people and as the ticos say: PURA VIDA!

  • Impeccable place and in the middle of nature. Super recommended

    Dylan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is INCREDIBLE!!! So relaxing to stay after travelling everywhere in Costa Rica. It has exactly what you need to be at peace.

    Andres2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at ZumaLoft! We would definitely recommend! We loved the suite and the amenities. The jacuzzi was a plus and the spacious room was just what we were looking for. Perfect for our 1/2 night stay. The only thing we didn’t look much into is where it was located. It’s best if you rent this home with a car. We did not have a car and got lucky with other people on the property to take us to town. Side note- The howler monkeys woke us up once or twice. So you better be ready for some awesome Costa Rican wild life!🐒 Ps- I would disregard the one big negative review on here in February of 2020. Seems like she didn’t understand what Costa Rica is all about!(hint hint ... Bugs! Wildlife! Nosies! Dust! Hot Weather!)🦥🌴🌞💫

The Jungle Hub bungalow sleeps up to 6 persons and it is surrounded by the tropical rainforest right above Montezuma, with ocean view and pool. Breakfast is included and italian dinner is an option. Comfort and wildlife.
The Jungle Hub consists of 2 adjacent bungalows with pool, lounging areas and deck balconies. Breakfast is included.
The area is located right above Montezuma, close to the waterfalls, zip line canopy tour, butterfly garden and the delicious restaurant Clandestina. Not far from town yet out of the heat and the crowd.
  • My wife and I had a fabulous experience in Montezuma, much of it due to our wonderful stay at Carla's lovely house, not to mention Carla herself. She is the epitome of the perfect host: gracious, welcoming, hospitable, friendly, organized and hardworking. Besides tending to our every need and desire, she even went out of her way to cook us a delicious pasta dinner. An added bonus was receiving her daily breakfasts, which were healthy, varied and filling -- a great way to start one's day! Jennie and I were very sad to leave Costa Rica at the end of our vacation, partly due to the fact that we had established such a warm and loving relationship with our host. We would recommend Carla and her Jungalow Hub to anyone who wishes to experience a relaxing and pleasant vacation at a beautiful "home away from home!!!"

    John2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • This Bungalow is above Montezuma which was perfect for a nice view of the jungle during the day, and a beautiful view of the stars at night. The place was clean with large windows that provided a lot of natural light. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed waking up to the sunrise and the smell of Carla's breakfast. We were really impressed with our stay and will definitely be back.

  • I came with a long time friend to stay at Jungle Hub, and it was so much better than we could have imagined. Carla was an absolutely wonderful host who was very warm and hospitable. Santa is such a sweet and gentle soul who you will love right away, also. It’s always a pleasure having her around. The bungalows are even better than expected. We each had our own space, and all of the views are amazing. Amazing jungle view out the back. So peaceful and beautiful. The view out to the ocean from the front is better than the pictures. You can enjoy the front view while having a swim in the pool. All of the views and amenities are even better than the pictures. These bungalows were very thoughtfully constructed. The outdoor living space is plentiful and welcoming. We walked down to the pools, and enjoyed the cool water as well. The breakfast was absolutely amazing every morning. Great frest fruit, fresh juice or smoothies, fresh coffee, fresh eggs - and make sure you try at least one of Carla’s amazing dinners! You’re missing out if you don’t! We would recommend Jungle Hub to anyone who’s looking to have the perfect experience staying in Montezuma! Thank you so much, Carla and Santa for making our visit so special, and for being so warm and welcoming! We’ll miss you!😊 Melissa and Erika😊

  • Unique rooms with ocean view or directly in the jungle, coatis and monkeys in the garden. Delicious breakfast, the welcome of Carla perfect. Rooftop for stargazing.

    Marlène2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Super peaceful and lovely. Really dank breakfast made by Carla. The monkeys even joined us one morning! Rooftop deck for yoga, and to top it off, sweetest dog ever Santa

    Courtney2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We were in Carlas JungleHub for 11 days and we would have loved to move in there! Absolute paradise. Jungle at the back, well-tended garden at the front with pool and hammock. Carla was a great host with whom every conversation was pleasant. The breakfast was the top hammer (we almost burst daily because it was so much - and so delicious!). Your hospitality absolutely sweetened our honeymoon. Also the cute Santa and all other visitors who came by every day (monkeys, coatis, toucans, agoutis). Absolute dream experience. Very happy to come back ❤️

    Bianka2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Carla’s home was everything and more! It’s not far from the downtown area or beach. Carla made visiting Costa Rica simple from the tips and recommendations she gave. Her Italian dinner is a must - best Focaccia hands down! :) Carla and her family are extremely nice and hospitable. Their dog Santa adds a nice touch to the place!

    Felisha2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • It was our 3rd time at the Jungle Hub. Carla‘s unique hospitality, the great location up on a hill above Montezuma and those ridiculous views from the pool and sunset terrace amaze us over and over again! We will be back soon!

Super magical & unique tree house based on sacred geometry located on an active organic farm. It's truly in the trees, not just on stilts. It's composed of 4 rustic open air structures: the Awarenest - a separate 360 view deck 9m (30ft) high, the Bedroom Pod - with hanging bed, desk, northern view of the mountains and half bath with suspended bridge to full Kitchen Pod both at 4.5m (15ft) high and lastly a separate bathroom/shower pod at 3m (12ft). Basically a jungle farm wildlife adventure.
The main initial structure, the bedroom is actually suspended by cables between 5 strong Melina trees. The sacred geometry shape is an Icosahedron, one of the 5 platonic solids. It’s composed of 20 equilateral triangles that join at 12 vertices roughly making a spherical shape. The bedroom has a queen bed with canopy mosquito net, a built in desk, a small sink (with running water) and mirror and small porch. Just outside the bedroom is a half bathroom with flushing toilet. The kitchen, connected to the bedroom by a bridge has a full size sink, half size fridge, toaster oven, 1 burner gas stove, plenty of counter space and built in couch/bench that can sleep a 3rd person, but it's narrow and not very comfortable for sleeping (which is why it's a 2 person listing). The full bathroom in a separate tree, has flushing toilet, sink and shower with 2 heads, one is cold only and one has hot and cold. Plenty of privacy but open air with a view. It has a ladder access. The view deck, called the Awarenest is about 30' up with quite an amazing view. It's accessible by a series of ladders, so not for the faint of heart. It's a great spot for yoga, meditation or just relaxing on top of the world. It's in the tallest, highest tree in the area. I say highest because it's also at the top of a little hill. It's truly one of a kind! There is a new restaurant on site called Wonderland that is a short walk from the treehouse. My property manager will be able to show you how to find it if you're looking for a healthy and delicious food option.
It’s 15 min drive to the Montezuma beach and about 25 min drive to Mal Pais and Santa Teresa Beaches. It’s nicely settled in the hills between them. Also about 15 minutes from Cobano, the largest town in the area for supplies, etc. Those times change based on road conditions. It’s not actually very far, but you wont’ be driving super fast. There’s a wonderful authentic Italian restaurant located close by, in the middle of no where. Their pizza is amazing and cooked in a wood fired home made earth oven, hence the restaurants name, Tierra Y Fuego (earth and fire). They are only open Thursday-Sunday and closed for most of Sept/Oct.
  • Amazing and totally unique experience. Place is beautiful and you can't beat the views. Great to connect with nature while still being able to cook meals and have all the necessary comforts of home. Highly recommend a weekend here!

    Matt2020-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • One of a kind! This tree house is amazing, it is so delicately designed and decorated and equipped with everything you might need. I felt so comfortable and cozy in it, like I could just stay there and relax without having to ever come down hah. One of my best experiences, I can't wait to come back!

    Jennifer2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Treehouse was amazing, my best night in Costa Rica so far. The bed is comfortable, the kitchen is good an there is everything you need, the view is amazing. The bed is even swinging, if you like it. And you have a second treehouse with a shower. It’s a bit outside so if you don’t have a car you have to take a taxi. By food it is a 1 hour walk and it’s pretty steep. I took one from Montezuma and it was about 5000 colones.

    Janine2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great build and well constructed tree house! amazing view in a beautiful area. Good wifi in the middle of the nature ;) but not to far away from the next (cute) beachvillage Montezuma. Really recomendable!

    Fabian2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • A real tree house, with all the comforts. A dream come true. WOW

    Guylaine2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The most unique airbnb experience I’ve ever had. It was amazing to sleep in a true treehouse and hear the rain fall and howler monkeys, look out at the vista, and feel the fresh air. The treehouse was also stylish and keep with amenities like a french press for coffee, wifi, outlets, fridge, salt lamp etc. The airbnb shares the grounds with a yoga deck, permaculture gardens, restaurant, chicken coop and so forth. I called Julito, the site manager, and he showed us around. Taught us about the local fruits and veggies and got to taste them. He was very personable and informative. Overall, an experience I will never forget. Great for couples looking to rekindle.

    Lindsay2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great! We stayed there for two nights only but loved the magnificent view of the mountains, the sounds of nature. We were able to observe animals and birds very closely! The farm is a land of multiple gems. Very clean and offers all the amenities! The only downside is that it is remote from Montezuma and that the taxi can be expensive if you want to do activities in the city itself. Impossible to walk from the village either. For transport, a little complex but the unique experience is worth it!

    Sabrina2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We spent the New Year's Eve in the tree house (December 31, 2019 to January 2, 2020). It was incredibly great and original. The accommodation is designed for two people. There are three tree houses. One is the kitchen. The kitchen can be reached via the bridge with the second tree house. The second tree house is the bedroom (with a double bed, sink and toilet). In the third tree house there is a shower and a second toilet. Even though you are in a tree house, nothing is missing. (Wi-Fi, electricity ...) You are undisturbed, there is no other accommodation on the premises. In total only for two people.

  • We loved our stay at Ocean Apartments! The service and all the help we got from Fiona was great! Would love to come back in the future :)

  • We highly recommend Ocean Apartments. We had a great time. The place is in a great location, the views are beautiful, the place is nice and clean, and we really enjoyed the pool. Izzy & Nir (& Fiona) showed great hospitality. Check in was easy, and Fiona rushed over early to meet us. She also provided great tips and suggestions for things to do and places to eat in the area. Thank you for having us! Pura VIda! Francesca & Blair

  • Cozy and clean apartment with a view over the ocean. Nice pool and very friendly staff!

    Anna2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • I was really looking forward to this Airbnb in Santa Teresa and my expectations where high. The apartment turned out even more beautiful than in the pictures. The communication with Fiona worked out really well. She expected us at the apartment, showed us around and also completely organized a fishing tour for my dad. She made a real effort to make our stay as nice as possible. The apartment is equipped with everything you need. Either from the bed when waking up in the morning, while having breakfast on the terrace or while relaxing in the shared pool, the ocean view is amazing and so are the sunsets in Santa Teresa. Like the description says, the road to the apartments is really steep, so a bigger car or a quad are recommended. The wifi wasn't working that well but this is just complaining on a high level of comfort. Sadly my dad and I were only staying for two nights - if we ever should come back to Santa Teresa, we would definitely stay in those apartments once again. Muchas gracias!

It describes a magical secret garden, surrounded by high walls and towers, a river running through it down to the sea, beautiful gardens with blossoming trees, ancient forests and rolling hills... Enjoy the privacy and tranquility of the property and the river, or take a stroll up the hill to the village to buy cheese, freshly baked bread, organic chocolate, Italian coffee & gelato and visit the 'mariposario' butterfly sanctuary..

Our neighbourhood is a mixed Tico/Gringo community that gets on very well together. The locals are extremely friendly and will always say hello. There is a small grocery store that sells limited fruits and vegetables and dried goods just a 10 minute walk up the road. On the way to the store, you will pass the cheese farm, where you can buy fresh swiss style cheese, fresh milk and yoghurt and local organic coffee. You will also pass the Xamaritan chocolate factory, where you can buy coffee, cakes and hand made chocolates, as well as partake in a chocolate workshop. You can also make a call for a freerange farm eggs and chicken delivery or take a longer stroll or short drive up to the trout farm, where you can fish for your own trout and have them cooked their for you or bring them home for the grill!
  • We had an awesome experience staying at Angus’s place. We brought our 3 teenage kids and had a great time connecting with nature and having a more cultural experience in Costa Rica. The home was one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen. We enjoyed the river, family time at the house, the fresh fruits and vegetables in the garden, and all the recommendations in the area/village. We would definitely recommend this home and return. The pictures don’t do the home justice you will not be disappointed.

    Keri2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a little oasis all on its own. We spent quite a bit of time just relaxing at the house or at the river. It is so peaceful you wouldn’t believe it! We loved our stay here and Angus is a super host. He went above and beyond to make our stay great. What all of the reviews say are true. What a gem.

    Valerie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kubla Khan is an oasis of tranquility, surrounded by nature, close to Chiripo. Angus is a great host. A must for anyone who loves nature. A wonderful stay with a unique view, a large covered terrace and every comfort. This was our second time we stayed here, and certainly not the last. 10/10 recommended.

    Bob2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is magical. The feeling of waking up in the morning to this view, making some coffee using the chorreador and sitting to take in this view is like nothing else. Highly recommend going for a nude dip in the river and checking out the butterfly dome up the street. Hope to return again one day.

    Taylor2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Kubla Khan for almost a month. The experience is unforgettable. A beautiful location in the middle of the cloud forest with a unique view. The Chiripo river flows through the garden and is easily accessible via a nice path. From the spacious covered terrace you can enjoy the "Jungle TV". Fruit and vegetables from the large private garden are in stock. Angus is a great host, always available and made our stay even better than expected. Recommended 10/10.

    Bob2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great house. Amazing grounds. The sounds and sight of the river below are just amazing. You are truly immersed in the rainforest. Gives you a certain peacefulness rarely found elsewhere.

Beautiful & very private 'eco-luxury' retreat near South Pacific Coast (4 hours drive with 4x4) from SJO (San Jose Airport). Our unique & stunning location offers guests panoramic sea views & hangs dramatically over the jungle canopy. Romantic getaway, nature lovers and adrenalin junkies paradise!
WELCOME to Pura Vida Ecolodge, a unique 'eco-luxury' award-winning retreat nestled amongst virgin rain forest just 5 km from the volcanic sands of the Pacific Ocean in Central America's Costa Rica. The ecolodge been awarded with a 'Certificate of Excellence' every year since opening by TripAdvisor, was designed by award winning Architect Franco Casalvolone (FCB Arquitectura) and has been awarded with the Airbnb 'Super Host' badge for the last four consecutive seasons as well! This is the place for guests who want to disconnect, be ‘off-grid’ and get away from it all. It’s for those of you who have a sense of adventure, are up for trying something new, enjoy bumpy and steep roads in a 4x4 (not AWD) and who, come rain or shine, won’t let the weather stop them from doing what they want. It’s an adrenalin junkies paradise, perfect for those who want to wake up to the sounds of monkeys, trek through the jungle and jump in a freshwater plunge pool all before breakfast! It’s for the nature lovers among you who will no doubt discover animals of all shapes and sizes throughout their stay both on our lodge’s doorstep and with perhaps, the occasional smaller visitor inside. It's for the venturesome globetrotter who doesn't mind the occasional cold shower when the solar panel doesn't get enough sun or the intense heat or humidity as the season dictates. It’s for new age travellers who are ready to respect, accept and embrace a different and more laid back culture than perhaps they’re used to ‘back home’. It’s for those of you that are happy with less and don't constantly strive for more more more, as we’ve tried to incorporate the ‘pure life’ lifestyle that Costa Rica’s Zona Sur offers in abundance into the design of our lodge, so it’s the perfect getaway for those who are ready to arrive with their minds and eyes wide-open, for guests that seek romance, beauty, fun and adventure. This is, as they say, the ‘real' Costa Rica as our beautiful and breezy location, at an altitude of just over 300 meters and with over 3 acres of private land, boasts stunning panoramic sea views over the lush valleys towards the meandering 'Rio Terraba' and directly faces the Pacific Ocean, Costa Rica's spectacular sunsets and the world famous National Parks - Isla del Caño & Osa Peninsula. The most magical times are the early mornings and late afternoons where you can sit back with a freshly made juice or a glass of wine and be a spectator of nature with monkeys, pizotes, parrots and toucans all frequently visiting the lodge and it's surrounding reserve. Pura Vida Ecolodge is a peaceful sanctuary to experience and embrace the 'Pura Vida' (Pure Life). A destination where guests can enjoy not only a memorable holiday, but tranquility, adventure and equilibrium in a utopia second to none. Our private 'Eco-Chic' retreat is your chance to relax and truly let go, to welcome an organic, integral experience for contemplation, rejuvenation and nurturing among friends, family and loved ones. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES - At the same time as being near local beaches, restaurants and other tourist attractions, Pura Vida Ecolodge's location is both remote and private and the retreat itself will provide you with all sorts of adventures and experiences. We have our own nature trails, waterfalls & natural plunge pools both near the ecolodge & on the edge of the Pura Vida Ecolodge Reserve - the easiest trail starts right by the ecolodge, with more challenging treks on the edge of the reserve just a short up-hill walk (300m) from the lodge. Your adventure can be as extreme or relaxing as you choose with a plethora of natural swimming pools, waterfalls and rock faces to explore! Whether you are honeymooners, a group of friends or a large family of 7, you will have the entire ecolodge just to yourselves. We have also planted lots of trees, so please be our guests and pick any of the fruits they are all obviously 100% organic! If you venture off any of the paths, take your boots and maybe a hiking pole. We are just a 10-15 minute drive (depending on season, road conditions and of course your 4x4 driving skills) from the Costa Nera Highway allowing guests to easily explore the area with day trips to two of Costa Rica's most popular national parks (Manuel Antonio & Corcovado), stunning beaches (Playa Arco, Tortuga y Ventanas are our three favourites) and our concierge service can help with tours and boat trips, trekking options, scuba diving & snorkelling trips, kayaking, stand up paddling, surfing, hiking, mountain biking, canyoning, canopy lines and horse riding etc. The nearby village of Ojochal (just 5 minutes up the Costa Nera) is one of a few local villages hosting a whole load of fine dining and fusion restaurants or if you'd prefer to relax 'at home' we can arrange a professional chef and his team to prepare gourmet meals with local organic ingredients for guests to enjoy in the comfort of the lodge, food parcels and additional fruit baskets can also be delivered direct to the Jungle Villa. ECO-TRAVEL - Eco-travel in Costa Rica is your ticket to explore a plethora of amazing places that care just as much about the environment as they do about their guests. It's a country where 'organic' is as important as 'stylish', and the government plans to make it the world's first carbon-neutral country by 2021. ‘Pura vida' is Costa Rica's national motto, and for good reason. It's a real paradise: Our guests can enjoy the 'pure life' in some of the world's most bio-diverse jungles, rain forests and coastlines. The country's book-ended by beaches on its Pacific and Caribbean sides (hence the laid-back surfer ethos that characterizes coastal life) and inland, nature holds way: a full quarter of Costa Rica is protected land, from the smouldering volcanoes to dense jungles. In the highlands, farms and plantations produce delicious tropical fruit – as well as some of the finest coffee ever to grace your espresso PURA VIDA ECOLODGE FAQs: - WILL I NEED A 4x4 CAR? Yes, our retreat is situated 5km from the coast and the village of Coronado on a well maintained gravel road into the coastal mountains. A 4WD car is necessary (not AWD more notes in welcome pack). There is a convenience store or “soda" as they are called in Costa Rica, at the Coronado junction, where you can get the majority of your groceries and supplies. For supermarkets, restaurants/bars, beaches, bigger stores, etc. you would require transportation to the local towns of Ojochal (5 mins), Uvita (15 mins) up the Costa Nera Highway. Several taxi services are available but you cannot beat the independence of having your own 4WD. Driving time from San Jose is normally around 4 hours but please note driving times & conditions can vary and be quite unpredictable in Costa Rica so best to allow up to 5 hours. Full details & directions in welcome pack TIP: Bring coins and change from the US or change colones for the highway tolls! - WHO SHOULD I RENT OUR 4WD WITH? We have been working with Vamos Rent-a-Car since we opened. They speak English and they have various offices around the country (Near San Jose Airport and Dominical amongst others). They will meet you off your flight or even at your hotel if you're setting off early in the morning. Be sure to mention us and Pura Vida Ecolodge to get the best prices & treatment. You should allow around an hour for vehicle collection and paperwork. - IS THERE SOMEONE IN COSTA RICA WHO CAN ASSIST ME WHILE I AM THERE? Yes, once you book Pura Vida Ecolodge, you will be sent the welcome pack which includes all the details of our housekeeper and his wife, who together with myself and Kika, will double up as your 'concierge service' leading up to and throughout your stay. Though our housekeepers are Spanish speaking only, they are very knowledgeable on the area and will be there at checkin & checkout and can help you throughout your stay with anything you might need. I'm sorry we cannot be there but you'll be in very good hands, Gersan & Ili are practically family! - IS THERE A BEACH NEARBY THAT IS EASY TO GET TO? Yes, in fact you are really quite spoilt for choice. Playa Tortuga is the nearest and possibly one of our favourites. Once down at the Costa Nera, it is just a 5 minute drive up the coast with the entrance just before Ojochal. A short drive further up the coast takes you to Playa Piñuelas, Playa Ventanas and then the stunning national park of Marina Ballena and Uvita. Full directions (including which beaches are best for swimming and surfing etc is included in your welcome pack). -HOW EASY IS IT TO FIND PURA VIDA ECOLODGE? Upon confirming your reservation, we send all our guests a welcome pack with very clear directions including photos of landmarks along the way. This is updated monthly as we aim to give all our guests as up-to-date info and recommendations as possible -ARE THERE RESTAURANTS AND SHOPPING NEARBY? Ojochal is the nearest town with a really good selection of fine & casual dining. You can find Fusion, Italian, Asian, “Typical Costa Rican," even a deli/bakery and a handful of great fruit smoothie and ceviche places. Further up the coast there is Uvita, again with a good balance of International and 'local' options. We include a full list of recommendations (both restaurants & bars) in the welcome pack. For shopping, you may wish to visit the bustling tourist town of Manuel Antonio (50-60 minutes drive north) which has souvenir, jewellery, and art/craft shops and many lively restaurants (we recommend a trip to Manuel Antonio, anyway, for the national park, which a lot of our guests do either on the way down or on the way back up to San Jose. -ARE THERE EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES CLOSE BY? Yes, yes, yes! Again, you can find more details on the Pura Vida Ecolodge web site, but there are spectacular waterfalls, nature trails and plunge pools right in the reserve itself. The surrounding area offers world class scuba diving, snorkelling, zip-lining, boat tours, mangrove tours, hiking, stand-up paddling, horseback tours, canyoning, as well as being located between the country's best national parks (Corcovado & Manuel Antonio) and a 20 minute drive from Marina Ballena National Park. There are dozens of picturesque, quiet beaches all the way up and down the Southern Pacific coast, with enough activities and adventures on offer to do something completely different every day! We can also recommend great day trips to the Osa Peninsula, Sierpe and Nuayaca Falls amongst others and an overnight option to Mt Chirripo is incredible if you have the time. For surfers, Playa Dominical has a famous left and right beach surf break, and waves 95% of the year. Closer to the lodge, Playa Tortuga and Ventanas often have good waves more for beginners or if you're after an almost private beach and wildlife experience, you can have breakfast or lunch at La Cusinga and then explore the different monkey colonies. if you're lucky you might spot some Red Scarlet Macaws and guests also regularly see lots of toucans and different types of parrots. The 10-min walk through the jungle down to Playa Arco is well worth the trek! -IS IT A QUIET NEIGHBOURHOOD? Yes, Pura Vida Ecolodge is the best of both worlds. While being a completely private retreat and reserve (both the house, pool and the surrounding nature trails) with it's orientation meaning that the property literally hangs over the jungle canopy on one side and directly faces the Pacific coast on the other, you will have a handful of neighbours nearby in the slowly growing community if you wanted a friendly chat or even some more tips on the area. -IS THERE A GROCERY STORE NEARBY? There is a good little 'pulperia' (small local store) on the crossroads at Coronado (around 5km away) that will most likely have most things you would need. There is also a great fish/seafood place just 1 km from the Coronado junction. For larger shopping, there are two big supermarkets ( as well as a really good Pharmacy) in Uvita, about 15 minutes up the coast -DOES THE ECOLODGE HAVE INTERNET AND CAN I PURCHASE A LOCAL CELL NUMBER? Yes, while the house is equipped with a 3g hotspot for internet connection, please remember that due to our 'off the beaten track location' the connection can be a little variable and while generally fine for whats app and checking news headlines and the odd email etc, you shouldn't expect to be able to stream movies etc. Additionally guests (with unblocked smart phones) can purchase a sim card for around $5 with KOLBI by the luggage claim in San Jose airport that will also give you reasonable 3G throughout Costa Rica, you just need a passport. While cellphone signals have greatly improved in the country in recent years, there are some spots around Coronado that don't have reception but there is consistently good signal in and around Pura Vida Ecolodge. -WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE? A more detailed description of Costa Rica's seasons can be found on the Pura Vida Ecolodge web site, but in general you can expect about 85+ degrees at the beach year round. The only difference in climate year round is that May-November is the "green," or rainy season, and December through March/April is the dry season. The temperature up at the Ecolodge is always a few degrees cooler because it is around 1000ft. elevation, and you get great mountain breezes. Likewise, because of its proximity to the equator, the sunrise is around 5-5.30am with the sunsetting at 5.30-6pm. The ‘Green season's' rains are quite welcoming, it's always hot and the partial clouds and afternoon rains are soothing. Typically the rains start on the mountains between 2-4pm, maybe a little later by beach. For us, the best times of the day are between 5-7am. The congo monkeys will wake you up, and it's the most glorious part of the day and besides you'll most likely be asleep by 8/9pm! It's amazing how quickly you'll adjustment! -DOES THE LODGE HAVE AC? In short no. But both bedrooms/suites have excellent ceiling fans (with 5-speed settings). Please note there are ceiling fans in the living room and kitchen area as well and the Ecolodge has been designed with your comfort in mind, with large-open plan living spaces, surrounded by sliding doors leading out onto the wrap around decks which mean there are lovely fresh sea-breezes throughout. -WILL I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING WITH ME? You need not bring any household items as all bedding, tableware, towels (for both inside and pool area), cookware etc are all provided. We also provide a wonderful fruit basket and some other local delicacies on arrival. Please bring beach towels and your personal items, and of course a sense of 'Pura Vida' adventure! -IS PURA VIDA ECOLODGE A PRIVATE LOCATION? Yes, not only is the location incredibly private but regardless of your group size, you will have the entire retreat (house and surrounding reserve) just to yourselves. A lot of our guests are honeymooners and couples, as well as groups of friends and entire families. Either way, whether you are 2 people or a group of 6 with kids, you will have the entire property to yourself. - IS COSTA RICA SAFE? In general Costa Rica is very safe, however petty crimes do happen especially by the beaches or touristy areas. Do not bring any valuables to Costa Rica with you and especially do not bring them with you to the beach. TIP: Leave the glove department open to indicate it's empty.
The neighbourhood offers guests peace and quiet and has an abundance of nature and stunning flora and fauna. You can wake with the sounds of the congo howler monkeys and watch the sunset as the toucans fly right by the house. There are nature trails and waterfalls just a short walk away plus plenty of adventures on Pura Vida Ecolodge's doorstep!
  • This house is amazing! Do not even know where to start. I would love to return someday.

  • Absolutely stunning space and views. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We had a wonderful time. You will arrive and never want to leave!

  • Pura Vida was a peaceful space with lots of thoughtful touches towards sustainability. Very well appointed and Joe & Kika were great hosts! We thoroughly enjoyed Chef Royner for a delicious fish dinner and a mangrove tour with Gerzan! Thanks for all Joe & Kika...Pura Vida!

  • My husband and I had 5 wonderful days at the eco lodge. First off, the lodge and the surrounding area were like a private spa retreat with amazing views of the jungle and the ocean. The lodge offered many wonderful amenities, some of those included a wonderful plunge pool with a wrap around sun deck for lounging, sliding screen doors for open air living, a wonderful shower, luxurious king size bed, washer and dryer available, and a fully equipped kitchen! We really enjoyed all of the 5 star amenities in the midst of the jungle! The location was centrally located so that we could easily explore multiple beaches, each with their own unique features. One of our favorites was Playa Ventanas and we also enjoyed the restaurants and shopping in Dominical. We would highly recommend the lodge and would love another visit if given the opportunity.

  • Amazing place and view! We loved the Ecolodge and had a very relaxing and peaceful time there with our kids aged 8 and 10, who really loved the house and the pool of course ! We saw two toucans at the house and that was most probably the most exiting time at the house for the kids ! The mangrove tour was great too and we highly recommend it : amazing beach and food provided ! We got lucky to have Joe with us that afternoon as he was in Costa Rica that week. It was really great meeting you Joe and we would like to thank you again for your hospitality !!

  • You can expect a paved one lane highway for 60% of travel that feels very safe. Some going 30mph. Some 60 mph. 3.5 hours. 15 min slow drive on caliche like road. You will be very safe in a 4x4. It’s not scary. Very beautiful place, friendly and tranquil. If a monkey 🐒 is what you want to see. Go to the entrance of Manuel Antonio national park entrance at 4 pm. All the monkeys come out to eat the trash out of cans. We saw like 15 of them. Saw 0 in the park tho. One sloth. The most beautiful ocean is across street. White sand. Bar. Clean environment. Looked picturesque. Shopping in Dominical. Por que no great restaurant backs up ocean. Fuego for craft beer. Big grocery store in Uvita. The House is amazing. Bring toiletries. Buy cream for your coffee. The jungle room has the biggest breeze/fan. We were very comfortable and we never had bug spray. One bug bite out of 6 days. January will be warm and perfect. Bring light clothing! We can’t wait to go back. They have 2 rain coats here. You will need. They have binoculars and wi fi. (Portable) Pura Vida!😀

  • Wow. What can I say... During our two week trip to Costa Rica, and staying in three different locations, Pura Vida topped them all. We stayed here for 4 nights and could have stayed forever. We left feeling like we were leaving a home we never knew we needed. Pure jungle oasis with probably the most amazing view on the mountain, clear view of the ocean, which you’ll find blends in with the rich sunsets at dusk like a real-life oil painting. Just as described, this house is above the jungle canopy, and every morning we were up by 5:30am making coffee, opening all the doors and ready to listen for the howler monkeys and watch for toucans, parakeets and other exotic birds. The big, lion-king-looking tree out front is the hub for several of Costa Rica’s exotic birds, so keep watch from the main bedroom window as you’re waking up or from the view of the couch. We recommend keeping your bedroom curtains open at night so you wake up to the sights and sounds of the animals at sunrise! Simply incredible. Every time of day showcases a different aspect of nature. We found that just after the sun rises and is fully shining, that’s when the toucans will be soaring above to the right. At night, too just before the sun sets. Howler monkeys right as the sun is coming up and right at sunset. My husband was howling back at one of the monkeys and they went back and forth howling at each other for a good hour. Hysterical! The house has an infinity-like pool which is a refreshing place to dip after a hot hike. Look up and around for huge spiders, colorful dragon flies and big blue butterflies 🦋 (the size of my hand!) as you swim. Our advice is to always be on the lookout for amazing creatures! Never put your head down or you’ll miss something. Our favorite part of the stay was sitting in silence on the lounge chairs with our binoculars waiting for nature’s next surprise. We would make coffee in the bamboo coffee maker and snack on some fruit too. Aside from our favorite part, (the nature), the house itself and hospitality, amazing. Juan Carlos was very sweet and responsive and helpful. We were welcomed in with fresh fruit, coffee and two local “Jungle brew” beers (very delicious!). The place was clean and landscaped to perfection. However just remember you are staying in the jungle, so you’ll find a few unexpected things inside the house like ant trails or little spiders if you leave crumbs. Even a few little lizards will find their way inside. Just keep your bedroom door shut and suitcases closed and you’ll be just fine - everything is enclosed there in the bedroom and the animals that slip in are completely harmless. Think hardcore “glamping” (aka glamorous camping). We are tent campers, so this was heaven for us. So fun for me to cook all our meals in open air. My happy place is in the kitchen so I didn’t mind making tropical pineapple cocktails and chopping fruit or making dinner while my husband sat in the hammock to read. NOTES *One thing to note is the road up to this place is a long, bumpy, crazy ride. Around 20-25 min If you’re not used to it. You have to rent a 4x4 or you’re out of luck. It was honestly so much fun for us, and ever since having that drive up and down, everywhere else we stayed is really boring. We really loved driving up it at night, because all the smells of the wilderness are amazing after a hot summer day. Put some “beach boys” playlist on the radio and make the drive an adventure! *No air conditioning! At first, we were a little worried about this part and honestly the first night was HOT. Because the bedroom is completely enclosed. We were brave enough the second night to keep the bedroom door to the main area open to let the natural sea breeze in. (The doors in the main area all close and lock, but the windows are screens so the breeze can filter through.) there were also ceiling fans above you too and then two smaller portable fans which were really powerful! No animals/bugs came in, which I was afraid of the first night. Honestly, we just got used to it and by the time we left, preferred no air conditioning over the air bnb bed and breakfast we had to go to for our third stay. Ugh, you won’t need air conditioning. They truly designed the place to catch the most refreshing sea breeze, and if you’re active enough all day, you’ll sleep like a baby anyway. *Make time to turn off all the lights/fans inside and outside and try not to have all the fans running and lights at the same time. *Be sure to lay outside under the stars. We did this every night! Venus was so bright, it shows up in all my sunset photos on my iPhone and the stars were so incredible we wouldn’t want to go to bed. Bring bug spray though! Download the star app and take a look around. We could see Neptune with the binoculars! FOOD Stock up in Uvita on essentials before you go up the hill! Great grocery store there. Keep in mind uvita is the closest gas station as well. (Maybe 20 min away after getting down the mountain to the main road) For eating out, we also can recommend the soda across from the main little grocery at the bottom of the mountain (right down in the corner to your right coming down the hill). Delicious local food!! We got two huge cosados for $9 total. We also loved the restaurant beside the large grocery store in uvita. Get the ceviche! And also, if you want a good sunset meal, go to “la cusinga”! It’s a boutique

  • Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. From the outset we were supported by an extremely friendly and experienced host who spoke great English. In fact, I think he is English. Despite Brexit, we were provided with well constructed welcome packs containing essential travel and accommodation advice which also included a myriad of local amenity and activity suggestions. The Ecolodge really is something to behold and the pictures on the website purvey only a fraction of what you can expect. The sunsets and the incredibly mysterious ensemble of the dusk ‘til dawn wildlife chorus will have you transfixed for the entirety of your stay. You will find yourself firmly placed in the jungle but the nearest village is only 30mins drive (4x4 required). A few minutes further out you will find supermarket, frozen yogurt etc. We travelled as four adults and two children under 5 with the youngest being 2. The place was more than suitable with a little supervision for the pool and decking area. For us, this accommodation is located in one of the last remaining unspoilt spots of the world. Please, please visit. Thank you Puravida XXX

Perfect apartment for one, couple or small family. Very close to restaurants, bars, information offices, supermarkets and other services, but far from the noise. Some free attractions at less than 10 minutes walking. The apartment has a Queen bed, a sofa, a small table for 4 and a small but well equipped kitchen. There is a parking space inside the property. There is also a big balcony around the apartment with a couple of reclinable chairs and a small table.
The apartment is in a great location. Close to the center of town where most service and goods are, but away enough from the noise. The neighbourhood is calm and safe, surrounded by may patches of forest. Through the main windows you can see the middle and top part of the trees right next to it, so you get a good chance of watching some birds and other animals.
The neighbourhood is very quiet. There are only a few neighbours and they are not very close to us. Most of the neighbourhood is surrounded by patches of forest. You can safely go on a walk around and get to know a little about how we live. Close to us there is the soccer field, primary and high schools, fire station, small businesses, and other essential services that keep the town running.
  • Diego's place is just as pictured online. Very private with a beautiful view from panoramic windows. The cabin had 2 apartments, an upper one and a lower one. It worked out perfectly for us, since our son rented out the lower unit. Not far from town, but if you are walking, it can be a bit challenging because some roads are unpaved and on a hill. Amenities were ideal with the quantity of dishes, cups, utensils. Having a coffee maker, toaster, refrigerator, stove top and microwave made it very comfortable during our stay. It was also kind of owner to provide coffee, tea and some seasonings too. It was perfect for our 3 day stay there.

    Linda2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Diego’s place, was perfect location for quick access to monteverde downtown and for ziplining!!

  • We loved A Birds Paradise! The wind is amazing to watch from the big windows! Location is perfect, 10 minute walk from the town. The kitchen has everything you would need to cook dinner. Would absolutely recommend to stay here.

  • Wonderful home facing the forest. We enjoyed our stay and had everything we could have wanted. The bed was very comfortable and came with extra blankets and it was wonderful to wake up feeling like we were in the trees. We hope to come back!

  • Close to town and easy to find.

    Michelle2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Diego's place is clean, stylish and comfortable. Perfect space for a couple touring the area. Its a steep 10-15 minute walk to town which wasn't a problem for us but if you have mobility issues its best to have a car. A little difficult to find as well but once you are there its great. Check out the Ficus tree's just up the road!!

  • Unfortunately we arrived in Santa Teresa the day before lockdown because of the Coronavirus outbreak and when the beaches were then closed. It was lucky that we were staying in such a wonderful location with glorious views swimming pool and nice comfortable and clean apartment. We were made to feel very welcome despite being the only guests and our hosts couldn’t have done more for us. We will hopefully return one day under better circumstances.

  • Exceptional view of the sea from this place where the break is essential. We would have stayed longer if we had known how magical this place was. Thank you Andrew for creating this haven of peace.

  • We were stayed with a 2 yr old. Andrew suggested the Nicoya suite and it worked out well for our needs. It was on the first floor right next to the pool. Mora was very responsive with suggestions and tips. The location was great - could hear the ocean waves and monkeys at night while staring at a sky full of stars. We would recommend this villa.

The rustic villa is located less than 5 minutes away from La Fortuna Downtown (closest town to Arenal Volcano), away from the noisy streets but at the same time, close to all the principal attractions (hot springs, waterfalls, National Parks, Hanging Bridges, etc). It features: * 1 king size bed, comfortable sofa-bed, fully equipped kitchen along with a nice bar counter top and chairs, flat screen T.V with satellite connection, full bathroom with shower and hot water, Internet connection.
This villa is located in the best area that you will find at La Fortuna town, less than 10 minutes away from downtown but super close to all attractions. This gives you the chance to stay in a super quiet and relaxing place, away from the noisy streets. The villa is located in a 10 hectares farm, that gives you the chance to have a REAL Costa Rican experience and to feel immersed in the culture. Staying in this place will give you the chance to visit Sloth's Territory, a project that also belongs to the family that owns this villa and the farm.
Since the villa's location is in a extensive farm, practically there is not a specific neighborhood. The owner's house is about 50 meters away from the villa, so won't worry and don't be scared, you won't fell insecure or completely alone. You will have your complete privacy but at the same time you will feel safe. Sloth's Territory (the trail that you have full access if you stay in this villa) is located less than 50 meters away and it is a total trail of 1300 meters, which extends along the natural forest surrounded La Havana River. It is a guided hike and during the activity, the trail allows you to enjoy a gallery forest with lush vegetation and giant trees as Chilamate and Guácimo Colorado; constituting the habitat of many species like: opossums, two and tree-toed sloths and many birds such as toucans, tanagers and others. But the main attraction is the sloths watching. The Rodriguez Family, a traditional Costar Rican family, will be your guides, since trying to find sloths require high skills because they use to have an excellent camouflage that make them imperceptible, for not trained eyes. The trail is accessible for all ages, so this is an activity where the whole family can enjoy it. The duration of this activity can be from 30 minutes to 2 hours, all depends if you want to focus just on the sloths or if you are interest of watching more plants and animals. The entrance fee is us$20 per person for adults and $15 for children. It is open from 7:15am to 4pm.
  • Great Flat with a great view and a clean and nice whirlpool. Very good communication and good support.

  • What a great place! Very large and cozy! Jacuzzi is great! Be sure to turn it on about 2 hours ahead so it warms up! The view is amazing! The sloth trail was great! It’s literally a 3 minute walk where you check in and get a guide. We saw 5 sloths, a bat, some birds, lizards and learned a whole lot! It was awesome! Jason responds very quickly and helps you with any activities. Perfectly located off the main road for privacy but near shops. Also there was a puppy and a horse! Best place ever.

    Lev2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay. The place was beautiful and really well looked after. Jason was so helpful with recommending and booking the best tours, trips and activities. And it’s right next to Sloth’s Territory which is a great bonus. Would highly recommend

    Gregory2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Jason's place is located directly beside a sloth sanctuary. Very wonderful experience getting to view the sloths. Was a quick drive to La Fortuna. The house is beautiful would have loved to stay more then 1 night!

    Jess2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Make sure you get there before dark.

    Steve2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place and location! Jason was very helpful in booking activities.

    Nicholas2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Super location right outside La Fortuna. Road is a bit rough getting there but well worth it. The Villa was sparking clean and had everything we needed. The host Jason was incredible. Super fast response and very helpful in booking reservations and providing insight on where to go and what to eat. To top it off there was a horse right outside that was so much fun. The horse even played fetch with us with an old soccer ball. Lot of hummingbirds. Even had a toucan in one of the trees out front. Highly recommend the sloth tour. It is right in your backyard. We saw 5 or 6 sloths.

  • A true little paradise! The accommodation is even better than in the photos! We were able to take advantage of the jacuzzi with a superb view of the volcano, it's definitely worth it! The accommodation is very large and super well equipped! Everything is there! Perfect stay

Stay in the middle of the rainforest with its abundant wildlife, in your own comfortable house. Just minutes from little fishermanvillage of Manzanillo (with small shops and restaurants) and the caribbean sea with its picture perfect beaches
Fascinating jungle experience in the middle of the Caribbean rainforest of Costa Rica! Our distinguished lodge on 16+ acres of private property is situated in the Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife refuge, with the beautiful Caribbean sea less then a mile away. You will stay in one of our comfortable, fully equipped houses on stilts. Experience the jungle like never before. Have the monkeys waiting outside your window as you wake up to the sounds of tropical birds singing (more than 100 species counted on our property). There are sloths, nosebears, other mammals, frogs, many insects and so much more…you are truly in the middle of the rainforest. Relax in the Costa Rican rain forest, drinking a good bottle of wine on your jungle porch. Have a massage, walk our private nature tracks or relax at the creek that runs through the property. Go on one of the many excursions we can arrange for you. Visit the picture perfect & quiet Caribbean beaches just a few minutes away! Venture into Cahuita National park or the Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife refuge. Enjoy a night out in the bustling beach town of Puerto Viejo (9 miles away). But most of all look forward to waking up in a jungle paradise that seems to have been created especially for you… El Arbol (the tree) is the creation of Jan Hein (designer and creator of the lodge) and Marjolein (counsellor and international marketer) from the Netherlands. We want to offer our guests comfort while at the same time they are being totally immerged in nature. The idea is to offer guests a pure, private and personal experience. We are nature lovers ourselves and we would like to show you and your loved ones nature as it can still be found on this planet. Enjoy nature without compromising on comfort. We believe that the natural beauty in the lay of the land is best left as it is, especially if one of your goals is seeing animals. This theory is proven by the abundant wildlife that visits our 16+ acre property every day. We continue to let nature work her magic. Landscaping is done only around houses and common areas. We have a natural path through our rainforest that we keep clean and accessible; the rest of the jungle remains untouched. Outdoor lighting is romantic but restricted to what is necessary for orientation, safety & security. El Árbol philosophy: Our philosophy is to create a unique and personalized jungle experience in the midst of complete comfort. Feel the mental and physical wellbeing that nature provides. We also place extra emphasis on being eco friendly and globally conscious. You as our guest take part in this process as 5% of your lodging fees will be donated to local charities. The houses are designed with style, the immediate environment, comfort and safety in mind. Our houses are beautifully and interestingly designed. They are built on poles so you have the feeling you you are living and sleeping in the treetops and have round shapes, rich colors and exciting features. Every house has its own jacuzzi ( please note : the water is warm not hot like in the west ) from which you can see the jungle and its wildlife. The houses have a fully equipped kitchen, master bedroom, large living room with an extra sleeping sofa/bed, luxury bathroom, safe and all beds have the best orthopedic mattresses with good quality mosquito nets. Because of their design and the protection from the rainforest's canopy, the houses have a comfortable, cool climate. The houses have glass windows to keep most insects out, although it would amaze you how many days and nights you will sit outside on your porch without being bothered by any of these little creatures to fully enjoy the sounds of the jungle. The houses are cleaned for you 1 time a week. Its an amazing experience, don't miss it. we hope to may welcome you, if the dates you want to stay are booked at this calendar , please look at our other airbnb listing as we have 2 equal houses for rent :
Middle of the rainforest yet close to picture perfect Caribbean beaches , restaurants and shops
  • El Arbol was an amazing place to stay for our week in Costa Rica. The location, design & layout of the place is perfect to feel secluded & chill out in the jungle and use as a home base while you’re out exploring all the beaches & towns really close by. Had everything we needed & couldn’t really ask for anything more. Thanks Marilyn!

    Bryan2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • An incredible space in primary rainforest. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Viejo, but a quick drive to neighboring towns. We saw dozens of monkeys right outside the house, and enjoyed taking in jungle sights and sounds while sipping our morning coffee on the porch.

    Margaret2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • El Arbol is a magical place. Rustic Swiss-Family Robinson charm with plenty of character immersed in the jungle, where you can swing in a chair or hammock and hear the sea and your alarm is the hooting of the howler monkeys! The jacuzzi was a treat. I was very happy to just enjoy the space. A great place for creatives looking for some inspiration or time to focus. Equally the beach is just 10 minutes away along with everything else that the area has to offer. I will always remember El Arbol!

    Jemma2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible place to stay! The first day we saw a sloth and the other days we saw monkeys! It was a very exciting location to stay in. Marilyn is a great host!! She accommodated us for an early arrival even when I let her know last minute. She told us all about the area when we arrived and how to get around. We did not have a car during the stay and got around by bus/taxi. The place is about a 15 min walk from Manzanillo beach. We absolutely loved it here!

    Elena2020-02-10T00:00:00Z

  • El Arbol is an amazing place to stay while in Puerto Viejo/Manzanillo. Marilyn and Jan have created a magical and comfortable home in the middle of the jungle. It is truly a unique experience to be able to experience the Costa Rican jungle in such a close up way, to hear and see the animals all around you. The hosts are very welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful. We stayed there for three nights, and wish we had stayed there for a week!

  • My stay at Justin & Jessica’s place was awesome! Jessica was prompt to answer any questions I had throughout the trip within a matter of minutes. The view was spectacular. Waking up and opening the window or door to see trees with an ocean backdrop while brewing my morning coffee was one of the best parts of my trip. The location is only a 3-5 minutes walk, with a slight incline, to the beach and a little under 10 minutes to the surf shop, grocery store, and restaurants. The town is small so if you want shopping and night life, Jaco is only a 20 minute drive up the coast. It’s a nice scenic drive too. No A/C can be uncomfortable at times but the shower water runs cold and there is plenty of circulation in the home so I never had a problem cooling off. The only issues I had with my stay, which aren’t under the control of the hosts but are worth noting, we’re the neighbors. To the left of the unit, there is a construction crew within 50 feet either remodeling or building a house. They start early around 7am so that was typically my alarm to wake up and it went until around 4 daily. Then things quieted down to only the sounds of nature. The neighbor to the right, down in the valley, was burning something for a few hours during 2 of the days I was there. The smoke reached up to this unit pretty easily but who knows if this is a common thing. Might be a rare occurrence. These things were unexpected but didn’t bother me so I still rate this 5 stars for sure. PS. Not the best option for arachnophobes.

  • Such a peaceful little getaway in nature. Super easy check in! Not too far of a walk from downtown but a bike is definitely recommended especially after a long day at the beach. Kinga was so quick to respond to any messages and such a sweet host.

    Alyse2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice accommodation in the middle of nature. One should be mobile especially in the evening as an unlit street leads to the property. The view from the terrace of the jungle is fantastic, we could also see some animals.

    Ivo2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay at Casa Lina! The view of the jungle on the front porch was so beautiful and relaxing. The place was clean and the kitchen had everything you needed. Kinga was very helpful with booking transportation and tours for us. There are bugs but what else do you expect in the jungle. The bug net over the bed protected us well at night. The wifi worked very good for the entire stay. The only negative would be the shower. The water was warm enough but didn’t have much pressure, which wasn’t a huge deal at all. The sounds of the jungle at night while relaxing on the porch or in the hammock were fantastic, as well as being able to have your morning coffee and fruit on the porch in the morning over looking the beautiful jungle and stream that runs through the property. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this to anyone travelling through this area!

    Kristen2020-01-26T00:00:00Z

Torre Alta Lodge are cabins located atop a mountain surrounded by jungles. We offer magnificent, unparalleled views of the Turrialba a volcano, which is located directly across the valley from the cabins. We are focused on nature and sustainability.
Our cabins were created to offer our guests the ability to disconnect and completely relax. However, we completely understand that in our digital era it is sometimes necessary to stay in touch with the rest of the world and we therefore offer free high speed wifi in all of our cabins. We have built the cabins with our harvested lumber and are keeping our impact on our environment to a minimum. We recycle, compost and use rain water for all our needs. Each cabin comes equipped with bottled drinking water, a small fridge and coffee maker. Each cabin also has a front porch with breathtaking views of the Turrialba valley and the majestic Turrialba and Irazu volcanos. As the volcano is currently active, you can witness smoke plumes floating from the top of the volcano. We offer horseback rides with our guide. He has developed various routes in the area, all levels of experience. Our most popular ride is the one that takes you into birdwatching areas, sitting on the horse and not having to worry about walking gives you a great opportunity to see so much more. Drink from our natural spring and see how we are a major part of the water shed that supplies the town below us. We offer meals made mostly with organic vegetables and fruits from a local small farmers coop. We can help schedule white water rafting on the pristine Pacuare River. We encourage you to come with enough time to enjoy all we offer. We look forward to having you as a guest.
We are quite isolated and adequate planning regarding transportation is required. Our guests can choose to rent a car, but a 4x4 is very necessary as the roads are quite rough. In fact, for those guests that are planning on making it up to the cabins in their rented vehicle, we strongly suggest that only drivers experienced in rough terrain attempt this. We also will gladly pick you up from the local town, San Rafael, and shuttle you up and down the mountain whenever needed. We highly recommend a GPS which can be rented at the car rental office.
  • Annette and Harry were lovely hosts and took great care of us. We only stayed there for one night, but had a wonderful time. They even booked us a white water rafting tour which was absolutely amazing. Highly recommendable!

  • Thank you for the wunderfull Time :-)

    Stefan2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Annette’s property is absolutely breathtaking. The views from the top are not to be missed! We only stayed one night and found it to be the perfect way to unwind at the bed of our trip. We drove ourselves to the property and I will say that you definitely need a 4x4. You are climbing over rocks and steep muddy hills so that is the only way to access the property. The drive is well worth the views. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast on her property, which were great. We had the opportunity to see a sloth and did the horseback riding tour of the area. It was overall a wonderful stay and we hope to be back one day!

    Kelly2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you stay at Annette's place make sure to make it the last stop of your trip because it can't get any better. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy the nature. Annette and Harry are the perfect hosts.

  • Annette and Harry are the most warm and beautiful people. Annette gave us the necessary guidance to safely arrive at their gorgeous, serene property. We had driven all day, and arrived at almost dark. It was a picturesque evening. The city lights magically twinkled through the drifting clouds as gentle rain fell. Occasionally the volcanoes showed themselves. I wouldn't call us the romantic type, but even we sat together holding hands, warm, under blankets watching the night pass. Annette and Harry kindly prepared a perfect vegan breakfast spread for us. We were overwhelmed by the sweet sentiment. It was so delicious! Coffee, pineapple, papaya, plantains, overnight oats, toast, jam, bananas. Basically, vegan heaven. Harry, gave us all kinds of tips for our day of travel to Cahuita. We loved every moment! We can't wait to return for a longer visit.

  • Annette’s property is a hidden gem. It’s so quiet and peaceful in the cabins, it’s easy to forget how well located you are. The cabins are rustic, charming, and very clean. We enjoyed the meals and chatting with other guests as well as Harry and Annette, though one is still given plenty of space while visiting. The property is really worth spending some time to enjoy for those who like nature and peace. The ants did find my makeup bag, but they did in three out of four of our stays - so keep in mind you are in the tropics and that nature will find you. Once I hung it up out of reach, they vacated and we all lived happily ever after. I would highly recommend this property to anyone and will return.

Cozy home in mountains of Cartago. Great western view to valley and impressive sunsets. Hike in happy and safe rural landscapes. Family oriented with private vast gardens.
Charming Llano Grande is a place in a relax setting, with ample views that invitate for rest, meditation and connection with nature.
Charming Llano Grande is 2 kms away from downtown Llano Grande, a rural community on the slopes of the Irazú volcano, well known for being home to a hard working agricultural community, that crops flowers, vegetables, strawberries. Also, a place where catholic traditions are very much alive, including local processions of saints and virgins. As well, where oxcart parades are common and heavily praised.
  • Easy to locate, close to the city and at the same time disconnected from the urban, nature is heard perfectly, neat and suitable for both families and couples! If you take everything you need there is no need to leave the place at any time!

  • Excellent place and host! A+

    Ronny2020-04-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place, beautiful view, very quiet. I recommend it 100%.

    Marco2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely a place to disconnect from daily stress. Don Felipe's attention and concern for our stay was the best. Don Manuel and his family receiving us and being attentive to details was one of the things that we loved if I could give them 10 stars REALLY little. The place COMPLETE captivates you from the moment you arrive. The super equipped rooms and the place itself super chiva. The spectacular sunsets from the balcony and the peace that comes from entering that place definitely makes you disconnect from 1000% of EVERYTHING. That if ..... if they go I recommend that they go more than 3 nights so that they can enjoy the place it really is worth it. We hope to return soon.

    Jordan2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • It is a stylish house, a beautiful view of San José and other cities. There are neighbors but we do not hear noise, only some guard dogs but nothing to disturb. It has a large garage for two cars (I went on a motorcycle) It has the basics in the kitchen: some pans and pots, gas stove, microwave oven and toaster, refrigerator. Hot water in all the taps, which is very necessary with the cold in the area. At night it is very quiet, in the early morning we hear coyotes pretty close. In the surroundings there are no large supermarkets, you have to go to Tierra Blanca. At night the view is beautiful. We drink wine on the balcony, under a blanket from the cold

  • We spent night in Felipe's house. It's clean, well furnished, and the view is amazing! We recommend !

  • A beautiful place to disconnect, incredible view, very complete cabin 100% recommend

  • Felipe's place was absolutely wonderful, and we regretted not being able to stay for more than just one night. The house is stylish, both inside and out, and also very spacious! The view the main room provided was phenomenal, and we really enjoyed watching the twinkling lights at night. The bed was incredibly comfy too, and I was so in love with the blanket he provided I wanted to take it home with me. Felipe's communication was excellent as well, and we found him to be a very kind person. I would stay here again!

Dear adventurers and nature lovers ! Costa Rica is a third world country, you'll drive on a dirt road 30 min. or more, depending on vehicle, weather conditions, and your dirt road experience. Get a 4x4 and arrive during day time. At 600m above sea level, enjoy the pleasant climate, sweeping views of the valley, sea and forest. Explore the surroundings, take a dip in the pool, or natural stream.
Important: We do only rent the entire house because of the privacy of our guests! The house itself has a lot of stairs, so be warned if you're traveling with anyone who might have a hard time with these (elderly, kids, etc.). Designed in a modern architectural style with large expanses of glass, filling living areas with natural light is split into two units that are connected by a breezeway. There are a total of 4 bedrooms, 2 living rooms and 3.5 baths to accommodate 10 guests. In the smaller unit which can sleep 4 guests, there are two bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed, a bathroom with shower, kitchen with dining area, and a balcony with football table(URL HIDDEN) The larger unit which can sleep 6 guests has two levels. The lower level contains a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, living room with sofa bed, a large terrace and a bedroom for 1 guest, a guest bathroom and a separate shower. The upper level contains a large studio room with a sofa bed, a large bedroom with queen-size bed and private terrace, a walk-in closet, and a master bath with a bathtub.
The property is located on the hills between Parrita and Quepos. Parrita is the closest town, and Palo Seco is the closest beach. Both Palo Seco and Parrita are about ½ hour drive away. The off road from Parrita to Casa Altamar is about 19 km. At Las Vegas, a village on the way (15 minutes) you will find a Soda (alike a greasy spoon cafe) and a basic grocery store. There is another Village near by, but everything is very basic and the shops close early. So we recommend purchasing what you need in Parrita as you will find more selection.
  • Me and my friends had an amazing stay here. We followed the instructions George sent us (buying groceries and bringing them to the house). As far as the drive is concerned we used the app “waze” to get to the house and had no issues. I recommend you use waze in costa rica not google maps or iphone maps. Being in the Quepos area you need a 4x4 car as it is mountains. The house has the most amazing view and Cristian was super amazing. We saw a Toucan, Sloth, and many kinds of birds on the property. Cristian gave us recommendations for authentic food and nature seeing sights. I would definitely recommend staying here on your trip!

    Amani2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • An impressive property with a stunning view. The house itself is massive with luxuriously big windows and it was nice to have Sam the pup hang out with us by the pool. Wish we could've stayed longer!

  • Beautiful location with a phenomenal view. Georg was very responsive and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

    Felix2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is beautifully located in the hills with incredible views especially with sunrise and sunset from the pool. However, it is roughly a 30 minute drive from the main road making it difficult to come and go as you would please. The place did not have air conditioning but was not hot at night and we left by 10 am and returned after sunset when the home had cooled down, but realized it would be quite warm had we stayed at the home during the day. The home itself is comfortable and has all amenities you need. The property is beautiful as well. Christian lives behind the home in a separate home and is always available if you need anything. We really enjoyed how quiet the location was as it was so remote.

    Kyle2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Georg’s place was beautiful. The pictures truly don’t do it justice. I couldn’t find the location on my gps, but Georg provided directions that were very clear and easy to follow and made getting there a breeze. Following his map the roads weren’t bad at all. (Side note - I followed my gps to get out of there to San Jose airport and it took me a different route, and it was all straight up and down gravel hills for hours, our little 4x4 struggled - as long as you follow Georg’s directions you’ll be fine). The house was bigger than I expected and sparkling clean. Of course there were bugs but they stayed outside and didn’t bother us at all. Christian was very helpful and friendly. No a/c wasn’t a problem at all as the house is very open and breezy, there’s a fan as well. Communication with Georg was great, he was quick to respond. If I had one complaint it would just be that the shower in the apartment was cold, but I can’t speak for the main floor one. I’m sure we’ll be back again, thanks Georg.

    Courtney2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Georg was an amazing host, everything was great and super comfortable, exceeding our expectations. Amazing view, do take a tall car so you don't have trouble getting to the place.

Welcome to The Wild Side Jungalows! Tropical gardens surround our lovely casitas. With a kitchen, outdoor dining, Wifi, hot water, fan, hammock, mosquito nets and queen bed. You feel the jungle all around you but are perfectly situated to enjoy the beach too. We are just 200 meters from the beach so you don't need a car or even a bike to enjoy it. Our guests always tell us they wish they could stay longer!
Our houses are simple and clean. We have quiet surroundings and many animals right in your own yard. You can see sloths, agoutis, toucans, kinkajous and more. Fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle. We are on hand to help you with whatever you may need.
Our neighborhood is tropical with the sounds of the jungle and many animals onsite. Very safe and very accessible. There are other rental houses and good quality restaurants nearby. There are no discos or other city noises. We live next door.
  • This place is so special! We enjoyed every minute of it!

  • We highly recommend this accommodation. Beautiful place, clean and excellent hospitality.

    Eric2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Unbelievable! Wonderful place! This place is just a little difficult to find because it is tucked in to the jungle. There are paths that lead into the trees at the end of the parking lot. Just find the path to your hut. Nice quiet place to enjoy. I did happen to see quite a bit of wildlife there as well!

    Lucas2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay in Puerto Viejo

    Daniel2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A fun place to stay within the heart of Playa Cocles. The bedroom is cosy and features a large bed. The bathroom is small, but fine for an intimate couple. The swing door between bed and bathroom offers no privacy which may not be for everyone but was fine for us. The hot water shower could be updated, the shower head unlike anything we've seen before. The garden is indeed a jungle and separates the next door villa but it doesn't offer much privacy. You can hear your neighbor sneeze! Unsuitable for loud talkers, quiet is the key here. Personally we prefer a sunnier spot, but still a restful, pretty place for a few nights stay.

    Gabrielle2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We only stay one night but it was Perfect. Nice little house in the wild with everything you need to have a perfect time. 5 minutes of walk from the beach and lots of restaurant in the area. If you like nature, calm, relax time and don't need a 5 stars hotel, this is the perfect place for you. Host a 100% there for you if you need them. Pura vida!!

    Didier2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Jungalow was perfect and provided everything we needed. Eric was very welcoming and gave us tips of what to do in the area of Puerto Viejo. The Jungalow is surrounded by nature and a few meters from the street - it is very quiet if you don't count the beautiful sounds of the nature! All in all we had a perfect time!

    Katrin2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We wanted a place close to the good vibes of the area and wanted to get the jungle feeling and we hit the jackpot with this place. Laura and Eric are magical and made us feel very welcome and allowed us to feel like we own the place . The rental is placed in between the main road with the beach , restaurants, markets , bike rentals, anything u may want or need within walking distance. The home is surrounded by the jungle (very beautiful views inside and out) very simple design but exotic feeling. Im already knowing that if i come back to visit i have a great spot to stay.

  • Juan's space is very special: it is far from the city, it has a lot of privacy, a great view, the space is excellently thought out as well as every detail of the owner with the user. The last part of the section is not paved and has a lot of gravel, so very low cars could have problems, apart from that, everything is impeccable.

New, fully furnished house with a great view of Volcanoes and Valley! Located in a quiet community very close to Atenas downtown (4.5Km). Large master room w/ King size bed plus one guest room. Two full bathrooms. Contemporary design and decor. Large, integrated kitchen with granite countertops and all appliances. Very spacious social area with large windows and mosquitoes screens. Big terrace with deck and built-in jacuzzi. Great view all over. Service include gardener and maid (once a week).
The house takes advantage of the surrounding as the house is part of a property with a coffee plantation. It is both close to the Atenas downtown (4.5Km) and secluded enough for close encounter with Costa Rican nature.
The neighborhood is ideal for retired people. Some of our neighbors are retired expats

  • Our stay was wonderful. All the staff was very kind and helpful. The property is absolutely beautiful. Breakfast was delicious and it being included was an added bonus! The room was clean and cozy. We really enjoyed the outdoor showers. And the pool and jacuzzi were amazing! Check in was a breeze, and we saw a sloth as soon as we got on the property which was really cool! Huge plus is that the La Fortuna Waterfall (a main attraction) is a super quick drive or a very short walk away from the hotel. We rented a car so getting around was really easy using Waze. The WiFi worked great. We would definitely stay here again!

This one-of-a-kind wooden house is the essence of tropical living. Surrounded by 4 acres of private property, it is a perfect place to decompress when you first arrive in Costa Rica, or just before you go home. 30 minutes to airport.
The Rancho is the guest house on our property where we live full time in Atenas, Costa Rica. It is a tropical-style building constructed of beautiful tropical hardwoods. It has a central living/dining area, a 2nd floor bedroom w/double bed, a small kitchenette with mini-fridge, a microwave oven, a sink carved from one long piece of wood. The bathroom is unique: 20 ft. long, stone walls and floor, wood structure; the walls are black lava rock from Arenal Volcano, the floors smooth flagstone, there is a stone shower stall, and a big wooden bathtub which unfortunately has sprung leaks and will no longer hold water. A toilet, of course; modern plumbing fixtures throughout. It was built out over a little man-made lake, but changing climate patterns have dictated a much smaller water body, only full during the rainy season. The rest has been turned into garden. The property is a birders paradise. We have 4 acres (16,000 sq.m.) with many fruit trees, and are surrounded on three sides by coffee farms. This is the real Costa Rica. And this is the perfect tropical getaway for a weekend, or an interlude in between beaches, tropical forests and other activities. The property is in the neighborhood of Alto Lopez, in Barrio San Jose Sur de Atenas, just 4 km or 10 minutes from Atenas centro. The neighborhood is very safe - everyone knows everyone else, and our property is totally secure. NOT a gated community! We are one hour from the central Pacific beach towns of Jaco and Puntarenas, 2.5 hours from Manuel Antonio National Park, 2 hours from Monte Verde Cloud Forest and 30 minutes from San Jose airport. PLEASE NOTE: The building IS NOT CHILD SAFE. I will not allow any child younger than 12 in the building. There are too many places where a child could literally fall out of the building.
Its real Costa Ricans (Tico's/Tica's.) Friendly and honest, the Ticos's consistently come out No. 1 on the World Happiness Quotient. To be expected from a county who's slogan is "pura vida" - pure life. The neighborhood is very safe, everyone knows everyone else, many extended families. There is a restaurant serving lunch and dinner a five minute walk from our place, and a little convenience store right on our street, 5 minutes away.
  • Al's place was absolutely gorgeous and clean. The place had a bit of a tree-house feel but a lot more luxurious. Al was incredibly friendly and had a great spirit! He was so welcoming and made us feel right at home. He recommended some fun activities we could do and a great breakfast spot not too far from the airbnb. I highly recommend staying at this place it is so incredibly unique! I definitely plan on going back!

The house feels in touch with the nature around it, we fell asleep listening to the critters outside at night and woke up to the birds.
