Just booked in Crook

My place is in the Lake District national park, next to a pub with good food. You’ll love my place because it is a renovated old cottage. There are good walks from the cottage.. My place is good for couples.
Downstairs is sitting area with log burner. Kitchen has modern equiptment. Upstairs one bedroom has a double bed and a stand alone bath to soak after a long walk. There is a seaparate shower room. The second bedroom has 2 single beds.
There are good walks from the cottage. You can join the Dales way and access Bowness. There is good shopping in Kendal 4 miles away and a good farm shop with Artisan produce at the beginning of the B road on which we are situated.
  • Cosy little cottage with everything you need to make a comfortable, pleasant stay in beautiful quiet surroundings. Perfect for exploring the Lakes. Would happily recommend this.

  • Lovely stay in Janet's cottage, she was great at communicating how to get in and suggested the pub next door for food which we tried and enjoyed. The cottage was lovely, beautifully renovated and really clean. The beds were comfy and the shower is great! We had no trouble finding it. The wifi would occasionally drop out, but this was easily fixed. The neighbours were friendly and it was really easy to drive in to the surrounding villages and deeper in to the lakes. Thank you for having us to stay!

  • We stayed 6 nights in Crook and had a lovely time in the Grade I listed cottage, which was fully equipped for all our needs. The Cottage is only 15-20 minutes from Kendal, Windermere and not far away from Ambleside Cinemas, if the weather isn't great :) Janet was an excellent host and found her to be extremely proficient with answering any queries very promptly...finally, the Lake District is such a wonderful part of the UK and definitely worth the journey :)

    Ashley2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Everything was so easy. Such an amazing cottage. Would definitely recommend. Amazing facilities.

  • Wonderful cottage! We spent 10 days here and had a great time. The cottage is immaculately clean, with very good quality appliances and beds. Kitchen is very well equipped - we always take our own knives etc, but didn't need them. Georgia who helps look after the cottage is an angel in disguise! Thank you for all you did. Our dealings with Janet were very easy - she was speedy and highly responsive. We added a few days to our booking and all done very quickly and professionally. A delight to deal with - thank you. The cottage is deceptively large, fitted our spaniel's dog crate, and two fully grown nephews with ease! Only error we made was thinking the garden was directly outside - it's up the bank, and lovely to sit at. Sadly it rained for much of our stay, so didn't use it as much as we'd have liked. Bedrooms all comfy and bathroom shower is fab! Loved the bath - especially my husband who nearly drowned with laughter when he said 'all I need is candles', and I turned them on. Very funny! We had a great stay, good location, appreciated the quality of the cottage and Georgia's care. Thank you, look forward to returning.

  • Beautiful, cosy cottage, great kitchen with everything you need and all very clean. The bathtub in the bedroom was perfect for a soak after a long days hike. It's a lovely place to stay, hope to come back in the autumn.

  • Great for couples who want to be close to the lakes. It has everything you need and is very cosy. You do need to take your own fuel if you want to use the stove but that is understandable. The kitchen is very well equipped and all facilities which you may need. The wifi is not 100% but that is usual in the Lake District. Lots of good local pubs and one right next door. It is good distance from the local shop but easy from the M6.

    Pamela2016-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We chose this cottage for personal location reasons. It is close to Kendal and Bowness which suited us very well and you do need a car as no public transport and taxis limited.

  • Five Oaks is a great base to explore the lakes from. The location is excellent and the studio itself is comfy with an excellent finish and lovely views. Gill is an excellent, welcoming host and we could immediately see how much effort and care she puts into the place, not just in respect of the studio, but also how she deals with her guests. Would definitely recommend to others and will hopefully be returning ourselves!

  • The most wonderful place I've ever stayed! Pretty, luxurious, warm, cosy, extremely comfortable - everything we could want for a romantic getaway in the Lake District and more :) We especially loved the beautiful garden and amazing views from the huge window, the enormous bed and the coffee machine! Gill was so kind and helpful too and she even left us enough food for breakfast everyday - everything about this place was wonderful! Leaving was painful but we'll definitely go back :)

    Chrissy2016-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • The stay in this studio apartment was splendid! The photos were accurate, the place was very tidy, and Gill was a more than welcoming host. She even provided some groceries that were waiting for us on arrival! Overall, this was a wonderful experience and we hope to return to the Five Oaks Studio soon!

    2016-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed three nights at gill's place and should have stayed longer. Everything is perfectly arranged to make you feel at home and comfortable, from all the kitchen stuff to cook and bake anything you want to the decoration details. We loved having our meals in front of the large bay window and slept very well in the comfy bed, no noise at all! Book without a doubt

  • Wonderful cottage in a lovely tranquil setting. Ashes Cottage is a perfect base to explore the Lake District. Liz and Andy were wonderful hosts and we would highly recommend this Airbnb.

    Steve2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Ashes Cottage was the perfect getaway to celebrate the Christmas holiday in the English countryside. The cottage was beyond expectations and brought all the comforts of home in a beautiful landscape. The home offered everything one would desire; warm beds, a welcoming fireplace and lounge, and a fully functional kitchen. The area was absolutely stunning and was most certainly our favourite part of the trip! From the narrow lanes to the public foot paths through the sheep fields, Ashes Cottage is perfectly situated to provide a great escape in a beautiful area of England. Thank you again Liz & family. We look forward to another visit!

    Melissa2015-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying at the Ashes Cottage, The pastoral setting is so in tune with the flavor and essences of the Lakes district. BUT, We were really disappointed that the Stall shower was out of commission due to a leak. ``This may be unimportant to you if you are used to traveling in Europe of `old where sitting in the tub with the hand held is expected. Unfortunately a couple of us have knee issues and getting into the bath was a real issue. We would not have knowingly selected such a place. BUT WE DID NOT KNOW, And now you do, so judge for yourselves.

    Marilyn and Alan2017-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was perfect! A lovely location in the hills, but only a 10-15 walk to Staveley over the fields. It is also the ideal location to go exploring into Windermere or Kendall. The bedrooms were nice and big, as was the bathroom. Communication from Liz was excellent throughout. I would definitely recommend staying here to anybody.

Contemporary apartment in a wing of a Lake District farmhouse. Half an acre of private wild gardens with fire pit, bbq and countryside views. Peaceful location a short walk from pub. Easy drive from M6 - halfway between Kendal and Lake Windermere.
Ketel Tail is a lovely cosy apartment for two on one floor. Part of the rear wing of a farmhouse set in its own land with pigs, hens and bees. It has its own entrance, sitting out areas and orchard garden. A door from the garden leads into the newly fitted kitchen (the white part on the photos). Fully equipped for proper cooking! Plenty of room to eat at the kitchen table which has views over the fields. Or eat outside when the weather is good. A doorway from the kitchen and a step down lead into a second room - the comfortable sitting room (the stone part on the photos). There is an LED TV with freeview, DVD player and mini hifi with usb connectivity. Books, DVDs, maps and games are provided. Built in wardrobe with drawers and hanging space. Views over farmland without another house in sight. Clamber into bed in the cosy bed box with its romantic fairy lights and its own TV. The bed box is a snug fully enclosed sleeping chamber with two entrances up steps, one of which is a bit of a squeeze! There are hanging pegs and a big shelf at the head of the bed with bedside lights and plenty of space for books and drinks. The bathroom has an extra long bath with a good thermostatic shower over, large mirror and towel radiator.
We are in a beautiful rural location just inside the Lake District National Park and with a pub (that serves food) within walking distance. Lots of walks nearby and the Dales Way is up the road. We are a short drive from Windermere (10 mins) and the Lakes (Ambleside 20mins, Keswick 45mins, Ullswater 45mins), Kendal (10mins) and the motorway (15mins) and the Yorkshire Dales (1hr). You can spend the day seeing the sites but then get away from the crowds and the cars when you come home. It's also easy to drive to Beatrix Potter's house Hilltop at Far Sawrey by using the chain ferry. Dove Cottage at Grasmere is 30 minutes drive and there's loads more nearby.
  • We have enjoyed a wonderful couple of days at Ketel Tail! Joanna made us feel so welcome and the cottage itself is a delight. It had everything you could want and we just wish we could have stayed longer. It is cosy, comfortable and beautifully decorated ... and in particular we loved the 'bed box'! We're already working out when we can come back! If you are thinking about staying in the Lake District then we'd certainly recommend staying with Joanna at Ketel Tail.

    Lesley2015-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Joanna made us feel very welcome and the flat was amazing. There were lots of little nice touches that made it feel homely and we were excited to spend time there after a long day of walking. The location is great as well. Especially if you don't want the bustle and noise of Winderemere. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely be staying here again.

    Emily2015-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Joanna and Steve were fantastic hosts and the accommodation was beautiful and really well designed. They had thought of absolutely everything we might possibly need or want and were very accommodating, helpful and friendly hosts. The fire pit and barbecue facilities were really nice touches. The apartment is a perfect place to stay and explore the lake district from a tranquil and scenic spot. Will definitely be recommending it to friends and planning to return! Giorgio and Anna

  • The Hideaway was better than expected! We felt instantly relaxed when we walked through he door.

    Daniel 2016-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely apartment in stunning location, with everything we needed provided, including all kitchen equipment and basics. The bed was very comfortable, and the extra long bath was much needed (especially with 2 six footers). Joanna and Steve welcomed us and the dog and made us feel very comfortable and gave us a good intro into the local area. Whilst they very much respected our privacy, we were made to feel that we only needed to ask if there was anything we wanted. We would love to come again one day.

    Hannah2015-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Joanna and Steve made us very welcome at Ketel Tail, they were excellent hosts and the accommodation was perfect. We only stayed two nights as we were on our way to Scotland but would have loved to stay longer. Highly recommended

    Helen2015-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • We could not have asked for a more perfect base for our Lake District experience. Ketel Tail was cosy and clean with a very homely feel. The place is located in a perfect location with the main tourist areas only a short drive away. Joanna and Steve were great hosts and gave us plenty of advice before and during our stay. Overall a fantastic place!

    Daniel2016-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Ketel Tail was beautiful and cosy, impeccably finished and stylish just as the pictures shon in the listing. Joanna & Steve were very accommodating and attentive throughout our stay and even took us to a local hotel where we were attending a wedding. Joanna was great at communicating before and during stay. We can't recommend Ketel Tail enough, thank you!

Situated alongside our home in the Lake District National Park, we have a 6 berth static caravan. The caravan itself is modern, clean and well equipped. The location is an excellent base for the South Lakes (Kendal/Windermere), Ideally with your own transport although it is on a regular bus route.
Situated in the far corner of our garden, the caravan has excellent views of the surrounding area, and our property is located in the perfect location as a base for the South Lakes (Kendal, Windermere etc) - with the nearby village of Staveley offering quaint pubs, shops and cafes. The caravan is fully equipped - just bring your food and clothes. The caravan itself has 1 double bedroom, a second smaller bedroom with 2 single beds and a double sofa bed in the main living area. It is possible to sleep 6 people at a squeeze or ideally 4 very comfortably.
Our home and the caravan are situated in a small hamlet called plantation bridge. There are only two houses beside ours, allowing for great views, easy access and little noise/light pollution.
  • The static campervan and its surroundings are exactly as described in the listing. The campervan is cozy yet spacious enough to accommodate my party of 4 adults and 2 kids comfortably for 3 nights and made a great base from which to make day trips to Windermere and Lakeside (it is only 15 minutes by car to Windermere). We enjoyed waking up to views of the beautiful Lakeland pasture just outside the window with sheep grazing peacefully! Nev was on hand to receive us and provided helpful suggestions on things to do around the area. We were also greeted with two yummy Kendal Mint Cakes thoughtfully left on the kitchenette counter :) The static campervan is located on the grounds of Nev's house just a stone's throw away so help is always at hand when we needed anything. Wifi worked well for us throughout our stay. This is actually the first time we used Airbnb and it couldn't have a better choice! Would definitely stay again if we ever get another chance to visit the Lake District.

    Paul2015-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Really well equipped parkhome, right out in the countryside and we did not want for anything. Everything worked perfectly. Don't be put off by our experience, it could be a once off and unfortunate situation so rather communicate your approximate intended time of arrival when booking.

    Wayne 2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful weekend at Liz & Nev's place. The caravan was cozy and had the right size to fit 6 of us. If you plan to hike in the lake distinct, it's 10 min drive to windermere. I'd return without hesitating!

    Matthias2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Five stars all round. Lovely little place, good value, immaculately clean and the view is out of this world. Great base for exploring the Lakes on a budget.

  • Lovely caravan! 10 mins bus from train station to the caravan, although it's not very near to the Windermere, it's convenient to the take bus to go anywhere. The room is clean, a bit cold in the night but still acceptable. Landlord is very kind, willing to solve every problem for us. I love this caravan.

    Yanbo2015-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Liz and Nev's place is very cozy with great views. Very clean and well equipped with all you need. Great location for accessing Kendal and the Lake District National Park.

  • Liz made us feel welcome and showed us around the van on arrival. It was just as described, and we had a very comfortable stay at an affordable price. The van was very clean and well equipped, and we felt we had privacy in our own space. It is very well located as a base for visiting Bowness-on-Windemere and all of the LakesDistrict. thank you.

The only thing I would do differently is to; find instructions (as urged by Elizabeth) and get there earlier to make the most of Elizabeth extensive local knowledge and wonderful walking tips. • We had a wonderful weekend at Nannygoat Cottage. It is the perfect country getaway. The property is lovely and the cottage is very well equipped. We had superb sleeps largely down to the gorgeous bed linen and quiet surrounds. Amanda is very welcoming, helpful and responds quickly to messages. The place is easy to find and has a local pub about a 1 minute drive or 5 minute walk away. The garden gets great sun and provides the perfect spot for an evening wine. The property is a 10 minute drive from Kendal and close to Lake Windermere and many walking trails. I highly recommend and hope to visit again.

  • This is a great cottage for a family holiday in the lakes. It is very quite at the end of a long private driveway, but only a short drive to many of the tourist locations, and a 5-10 minute walk to a great gastro pub at the top of the road, which we went to a couple of time (best to book for food !). The cottage felt like a home away from home and was surprisingly large, but still had a cosy feel, with good size bedrooms and very large lounge. It also had all the facilities you need including good WiFi, TV, DVD etc. The beds were very comfortable and it had a good power shower. The cottage has its own garden and patio area with a table and chairs and looks out over the rolling countryside. One evening we sat out with a glass of wine and watched shooting stars overhead, amazing. This is the perfect place to base a holiday in the Lake district for either a family or 2 couples (2 double bedrooms). Finally Amanda was a great host, very friendly and helpful with good communications prior to our arrival and recommendations on places to eat in the area etc., even helping us find a mechanic when our car broke down, who came a fixed it within an hour ! We plan to stay again on our next visit to the lakes, thanks Amanda . . .

  • Gillian' cottage is very cozy and warm, and the bus stop is just next to the door! Gillian took very good care of me, and even helped me plan my trip! The animals were lovely, Charlie can get grumpy but was gentle most of the time. I would definitely stay with Gillian again If I go to Cumbria second time!

  • Very clean room within a very quiet area. The room size is OK but there is only a single bed. The owner is nice , and friendly. I would recommend the place to everyone .

Only a few miles from Windermere and Kendal, the picturesque village of Staveley is a hidden gem at the end of the quiet Kentmere Valley (of Postman Pat fame). It is a unique because it is relatively undiscovered by the maddening crowds, so offers a relaxed atmosphere in a real working village.
  • Garburn cottage is beautiful (looks small from outside but huge spaces inside) has all you could need (the beds are amazing!) and the host was great with communication. Wish we could have enjoyed the lovely garden (we stayed early March) but will hopefully return during summer one day. The cottage is literally a stones throw from the station and is easy to jump on to Windermere and leave the car, cheap too, £3 or £3.10 return! Spa shop for any items in the village and the Brewery is a must visit! Thank you for a lovely stay :)

    Diane2017-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Even better than listed, so close to lakes without the hustle. Loved the brewery & specialty coffee place, and killer view out of bedroom window!

    Dave2017-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent stay at Garburn Cottage. I was there with my family. The house was spacious and clean. With a large kitchen and dining room. Very good beds. It also has a sun room with a nice view of the mountains. We enjoyed our stay and recommend it to families looking for a place to stay near Windermere. Windermere and Ambleside are only few minutes away by car. Tip for people that like hiking. In the tourist information point at Windermere or Ambleside you can get maps of walking trails. We did some trails near Ambleside, going from Ambleside to Grasmere and back. That was really beautiful.

  • Excellent stay at a lovely cottage. Ideal location for walking holidays.

    Edward2017-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely characterful cottage, comfortable and well-equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the sun-room at the end of a long day in the hills, gazing out over the pretty garden, which is also a real sun-trap. The cottage is ideally situated in a beautiful part of the Lake District. The Eagle and Child pub, just a few minutes walk away, does excellent food. Tom is an excellent host, and although we didn't meet him he was very quick to respond to our questions.

    Liz2017-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • Well equipped cottage in an excellent location for exploring the lakes, 10 mins from Kendal and Windermere. I would recommend a visit to both the Eagle and Child pub and the Hawkshead brewery in the village.

  • A lovely cottage, full of character. Great location in a very beautiful and interesting village.

  • Tom was a wonderful host! He, unfortunately, wasn't around to meet us in person, but he ensured that we had all the information we needed for a great stay. We really enjoyed the Garburn Cottage. It's a nice, cozy place perfectly situated within walking distance of Staveley. We had a couple great meals at the nearby Eagle & Child (also highly recommended). It's also a short drive to Kendal or Windermere. It's definitely worth staying here!

Meadow View is close to Windermere, Ambleside, Kendal, the Kentmere Valley, wonderful walking, mountain biking and cycling locations. Staveley is a vibrant, yet peaceful village with excellent village amenities. We have three comfortable bedrooms, (see our other listings), warm shower room floors, hot powerful showers, simple, but good quality breakfasts. Note our other rooms appear to be along the road but they're all here on one floor. This is an AirBnB mapping issue!
Our rooms are bright, fresh and uncluttered. This is a double room and we also have two twin rooms each of which has zip-linked beds so we can accommodate up to 6 people if you want to look at our other listings and book up to three rooms for your friends or family group. There is no TV! Wi-fi is, however, available. Tea and coffee making facilities are available on the large communal landing area, and this is where you will take your breakfast. There is one large table and a serve yourself breakfast, so you may find yourself sitting with other guests perhaps an opportunity to swap stories or ideas for adventures or activities. We keep our prices low and offer a simple breakfast of coffee, tea, cereals, fresh bread or toast, fresh fruit (often from the garden) and jams. If you prefer a cooked breakfast there are at least three good cafes in the village, just a 5 minute walk away.
Staveley is a fantastic village. It's in a great location for both hill and low level walking, mountain biking and road cycling. It has an excellent pub, a brewery with bar and restaurant, a bike shop, three cafes, a grocery shop, Post Office, pharmacy, a tiny roundhouse theatre, and many small and some larger businesses, many of which are located in the Main Street and the Mill Yard. There are regular events held here, from cycling and running events and races, to beer and folk music festivals. Staveley has a real feeling of life about it and visitors are very much welcomed
  • Fantastic view from the window, vary close to the train station.

  • I would definitely recommend Sarah's place for a number of reasons!!! Fantastic location only 10 minutes away from Windermere! A wonderful village which gives you a great sense of the British locality of Cumbria!! Wonderful and spotless rooms, recently decorated! The most incredible breakfast with fresh, organic, home-grown fruit! And something very important: a very welcoming host happy to share all her knowledge about the Lake District!!! Surely top of the tops!!!!!

  • Fantastic location, room, breakfast - everything! And especially the hosts Sarah and Dan. The room is brand new with en suite bathroom which was important to me, and I loved the slanted roof in the bathroom giving it real character. The bed was very comfortable, and the breakfast delicious. Enjoyed Sarah and Dan very much and they were extremely helpful in every way and we got lots of good ideas and information from them regarding what there was to do and see in the area. Staveley is a great location within only a few minutes drive of Windermere, Ambleside, and The Lakes. We found the easiest was to take the train to see Windermere as parking there was difficult to find, and the train station is only a few minutes walk from the B&B. Staveley's Pub 'The Eagle & Child' has great food and a real English pub ambience. Both my husband and I are very happy we chose to stay in Meadow View B&B, and we thoroughly enjoyed being in a real authentic Cumbrian village, walking across its stunning landscape, drinking the locally made Beer at the Brewery, and Mr Duffin's coffee (Best coffee we've had in the UK), and most of all meeting Sarah and Dan. We will definitely stay there again if we get an opportunity to return for another visit.

    Lena2016-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time in this charming B&B. The village itself is quite pleasant but more importantly it is only a short drive from lake Windermere. Sarah is a great host who offers tasty homemade jams and jellies for breakfast. She was also highly informative about the lake district and thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her and the other guests!

    Andrew2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah was very kind with us and help with all our doubts. We had a really good time at hers place. The room is upstairs, very clean with a great window, lovely and really confortable bed. Excellent breakfast, with some home-made jams:) We'd like to come back soon!!

  • What a fantastic couple. Chats were great, it feels like we have known them for years. Outdoors people, theirs is a great place to stay as a base for mountain biking and bush walking. Walking distance to pub and eateries. Lovely bedroom with new ensuite and upstairs dining/breakfast area for guests with view across the hills. Stavely was quaint and quiet away from the throngs of tourists in the bigger towns. Loved our stay. Thankyou Dan and Sarah. Jo and Neil

  • Our family had a wonderful stay at Graham's house. Spotless cottage, lovely touches in the bedrooms with teddy bears and baskets for our things, and Staveley was just what we wanted; quiet, beautiful and close to drive around the Lake District. A perfect holiday. Tip for travellers: things don't open very early for breakfast except More? Bakery which was fantastic (next to Hawkshead Brewery where their lager is as good as their ale). Best Eccles cakes I've ever tasted

  • Georgina's house is absolutely perfect for those who are primarily using public transportation to get around -- we were able to do the hikes we want and explore Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick in the 3 days we were there via bus. Georgina had great suggestions for walks and hikes (thanks for the maps!) and the room and bathroom were excellent, exactly what we needed. Staveley is a quiet but idyllic and lovely village with an excellent pub and great brewery -- highly suggest!

Lakeland cottage lovingly restored but with all modern amenities, in the very popular and thriving village of Staveley, near to Windermere, Bowness and Ambleside. All prices shown are for the minimum 3 days, discounts are available for longer stays.
The cottage is an "upside down" arrangement with the lounge and kitchen upstairs and the bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs. The lounge has been opened up to expose the original beams and gives the cottage an open, airy feel while maximising all the original features of the building.
Thriving village, including pubs and eating establishments, micro brewery, Wheelbase cycle store. Great centre for walking and cycling holidays.
  • This cottage was in a great location in the lovely village of Staveley. The accommodation is brilliant - the photos don't really do it justice - it is probably the most comfortable and spacious place we have stayed at in our 9 week tour of Europe/UK. The lounge area is great for relaxing in after a day of walking in the gorgeous Lake District, and the kitchen is stocked with everything that you could need to be able to stay in and cook (which we didn't do! - can recommend the pub in Staveley, the Eagle and Child). The beds were super comfy and the shower in the en-suite a transformative experience! Really great quality cottage, no fuss access, lots of information and instructions on site, and a great quiet location in one of the most beautiful corners of the world. Highly recommended.

    Zoe2016-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our 6 day stay at the cottage which had a good feel, being cosy and homely with more room in the living and kitchen area than I expected. The beds were comfortable and the heated floors would be a bonus in winter. It was perfect for 2 couples. Enjoyed doing lots of walks around the area and also recommend the Watermill Pub at Ings for dinner.

    Trish 2017-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I had a wonderful trip to the Lake District and we loved staying at this adorable cottage. The place was clean, pretty, and had everything we needed to have a pleasant stay. We loved the wood burning stove! The only problem was that the upstairs (lounge and kitchen) heating was controlled remotely by the owners, so when it was cold we had to call them to adjust the heat, which they did, but it was still a little annoying that we couldn't just control it ourselves. All in all though, we had a wonderful time and loved this cottage!

  • Lovely quality furnishings and equipment. On the edge of the village of Staveley. Close to the Lakes-Windermere 4 miles away. Lots of amenities a stroll away-Eagle and Child pub (worth reserving a table) and a Spar (open 8am until 9pm Monday to Saturday, long opening hours on Sunday)and enterprising Post Office with sandwiches and cake selections, fish and chips shop -(closed Mondays) and several cafes. The Brewery also has entertainment some nights and there is a little theatre too! Cosy with underfloor heating and electric blankets. The showers are super strong too!

    Angela2017-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I recently spent 3 nights at Seed Howe Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed it. The property is much larger than it appears in the photos with three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the ground floor and a very large lounge/dining/kitchen area upstairs. The cottage was extremely clean and very cosy, warm and comfortable. There is a full size kitchen if you wanted to cook a meal or a nice local pub in town. Stavely is located between Kendal and Windemere so only a few minutes drive either way for a large number of restaurants, pubs and shops. This was a great base for us to explore the Lakes District and not too far from Hadrians Wall. This cottage has all of the comforts and amenities you could want from a holiday cottage. I highly recommend this to others and we would definitely stay here again if we pass through this area in the future. Thank you for being providing such lovely accommodation.

Built in 1717 the lodge has a rich history, a typical Lakeland stone barn converted into a family home with two guest rooms. It hosts typical scenery and a warm welcome no matter what time of year you choose to stay with us.
Set on a working farm, The Lodge is set in the heart of the Lake District National Park with views over fields and away from the busy tourist areas, but close enough to gain easy access to all the amenities you would expect from a holiday destination. If you want to relax and enjoy the piece and quiet of the countryside but fancy a trip to town or the local pub then this is the place.
The Lodge is in the village of Underbarrow, 10 minutes from the Market Town of Kendal and 20 minutes form Bowness and Lake Windermere. We love the quietness of the area, the fact that there isn't much traffic yet we are close enough to everything we need on a day to day basis. Where can you have breakfast watching the squirrels and birds only feet away from you? It is a walkers and cyclists paradise with many local walks, bridal ways and mile of country lanes.

Meadow Bank Lodge is a quaint, characterful cottage in the picturesque village of Staveley with its wood burning stove this makes for cosy nights. Once an Old Granary the cottage has a garden for al fresco dining and relaxation and is in an area ideal for walkers and cyclists with routes from the door.
Meadow Bank Lodge, once an old granary, still retains many of the original features including a fabulous log burning stove for those cosy nights in after a long walk on the fells. This characterful cottage unrivalled views of surrounding fells from the lounge, bedroom windows and private garden. With the added advantage of a garden to sit and relax in and the children’s playground is only a two minute walk away, this makes an ideal place for families and couples to use as a base to tour the Lake District as there is a bus stop, train station, shops and 2 pubs within a 5 minute walk, ideal for those wanting a change from the car.
Staveley is an ideal choice for a self catering holiday. The village is located half way between the picturesque resort of Windermere and the market town of Kendal and lies at the foot of the Kentmere Valley, a wonderful place, which is very popular for walking, cycling and has stunning panoramic views of both the north and the south Lake District. For those wanting to relax and unwind the village is host to shops, cafes and of course the Hawkshead Brewery, with its own bar and bistro on site, next to the renowned Wilfs cafe; serving delicious home made food. At the end of a long day sightseeing you can always call in at one of the local pubs where you can enjoy some of the local homemade food.
  • Beautiful location, very quiet, lovely village. I would heartily recommend the food at the eagle and child pub nearby. House is very quaint and cosy with a lovely garden and fantastic views. There is no book of instructions, so some aspects were confusing, such as the recycling requirements. Be aware there is no wi-fi. I didn't think this would bother us but it was difficult at times and very hard to communicate with family staying in another village.

Cottontail sits in a spectacular village location on the southern end of the Lake district with easy access to the rest of the lakes. With great walks and cycling on your doorstep.A lovingly restored 3 bedroom cottage with lots of traditional charm
Staveley is a traditional Lakeland village with many very old buildings. It also has a friendly community feel.
  • I stayed at Cottontail Cottage for 3 days in July for a first ever visit to the Lake District. This was also our first time using Airbnb to boot. The cottage exceeded our expectations and was clean, tidy and was fully equipped to meet our needs. Staveley is a quiet, pretty village and gives easy access to the lakes and was also easy to get to from the M6. All in all, most impressed with this property and Airbnb!

  • We had a most enjoyable stay at Cottontail cottage. Don't be put off by the pictures - it is a very quaint and comfortable cottage! It was well equipped, very clean, comfortable beds and cosy fire in the kitchen. The village itself is lovely and all of the people we met were very friendly and helpful. Paul popped in to check everything was OK on our first morning and was very pleasant and helpful and also responsive in our communications. We also found the location a very convenient base for the south lakes. Overall we can highly recommend this cottage and would love to come back.

    Pierre2016-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Paul's 3-bedroom cottage was clean and spacious. Kitchen equipment was plentiful so we could prepare all our dinners there. The cottage is also literally just a minute's walk away from the bus station, with buses that could take you all over the Lake District. That's really useful for non-drivers like us. The only thing to note is the water boiler, which needs to be turned on manually before hot water is available.

  • Lovely cosy cottage.lots of walks nearby and lush scenery.pub within walking distance.great value cor money would highly.recommend!

  • The photos don't do the house justice. It is really well renovated with very comfy beds and good decor. Great house and also location. The pub Eagle and child in the village is also great for meals and a drink so great for end of day travels. Recommended.

  • A great little cottage, in a nice quiet location, but with all you need on the doorstep.

  • Cosy, clean, comfortable cottage in the centre of Staveley. Guest info on local restaurants and pubs provided. Great location from which to explore the lakes, and a 15 minute drive from Windermere. We had a great stay, and would love to go back some time. Thanks Paul!

  • This is a great place to stay as you explore the area. Little village charm, and driving distance to all the lakes district's attractions. Also has train access to Manchester if you want some of that big city back :)

Reston Hall is a Grade II Listed 18th Century residence located just outside the villages of Staveley and Ings in the stunning Lake District National Park. We are a 10mins drive from lake Windermere.
You will be booking the main guest accommodation which is totally self contained. The entrance is the main door as you see in the photographs, with the large landscape garden to front and wooded area to the side. On entering you will find two large receptions, with an impressive sweeping staircase up to the landing and bedrooms. There is a fully equipped kitchen with Aga and Belfast sink for when you feel like eating at home. Upstairs there are two large bedrooms with SuperKing beds, one en-suite - the other with luxurious chrome roll top bath. Outside we have large gardens - Reston Scar is located just behind the house.
Staveley is a thriving community in the beautiful Lake District National Park, perhaps one of the last real working village in Cumbria. In Staveley's old Mill Yard you will find a plethora of modern businesses that cater for the needs of the community and tourists coming into the village throughout the year. Staveley has a local shop and post office, a butchers, artisan bakery, numerous cafe’s and coffee shop, a public house and even a brewery with its own bar – offering a huge selection of real ales, stouts and beers for the connoisseur. The village is a mecca for cyclists – hosting the UK’s largest cycling shop “Wheelbase” in the Mill Yard. It is also a wonderful base for walkers, offering easy access to such hidden treasures as Kentmere & Longsledlle for the dedicated walker or maybe a gentle stroll to Windermere along the Dales Way for those who don’t feel inclined to climb Wainwright’s peaks.

    Pravin2017-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Reston Hall was an absolute delight and my family could not have been more pleased that we stayed there! From the delightful location (I genuinely could wake up to the scenic view from the bedroom everyday of my life!) and the proximity to the Lake District to the grandeur of Reston Hall (you feel like Lord of the Manor), you will not be disappointed with your stay! Gillian and her family have done an incredible job restoring Reston Hall and each room had features that were unique, detailed, and ultimately told a story. Gillian was exceptionally responsive from the time that we booked on Airbnb to the day that we arrived and the service was 5 star! My family loved it and highly recommend you book Reston Hall!

    Peter2017-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Renton Hall is a lovely house with beautiful original features alongside well-appointed detail. Our stay was both grand and comfortable. We hope to return and certainly will be recommending it to our friends.

  • Perfect elegant house with a fabulous garden. Gillian is really nice and live next door. As long as you have problem, she will solve it quickly and patiently. It is a very good choice in Lake District

  • Such a beautiful cottage, perfect for a quiet weekend in the lake district. Very homely, the kitchen was perfect for cooking in and enjoying time in the cottage. The relaxation areas meant we had a change of scenery from day to night time. It's so very spacious for 4 people to relax in. The location is good for an easy walk into staveley to visit the brewery, and so close to other spots in the lakes like Windermere. Gillian was great to liaise with pre and during our stay and was a great host. Would highly recommend!

    Megan2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Reston Hall was perfect for a weekend away in the Lake District. The property is beautiful, and close to the quaint Staveley. Gillian was a great host - she was communicative before arrival, explained the history of the property, had provided fresh bread and jams, and even drove us to the station on our last day. Would highly recommend!

You will have a warm welcome from the Family Colman , and their labradoodles Off road parking , secure bike storage , mountain bikes for hire ,an award winning pub nearby .
  • We loved being removed from the "hot spots" of the Lakes, but yet still so close to explore. The added bonus was the immense beauty of Ings surrounding the home (plenty of hills to wander up) and the Watermill brew pub that served excellent beer and food. Pippa and her family gave us absolute privacy and freedom.

    Surinda2017-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was as described and photographed. We were given a very warm and informal welcome on our arrival. The room was spacious, airy, warm and comfortably appointed. The bathroom was absolutely spotless! The advantage of this choice was the fact that we were in our own little 'annex' building, so we didn't feel like we were encroaching on someone's privacy. If you want a hand stopover, close to the main route into the lakes, this is an ideal choice.

    Jane2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • The loft room and en-suite were wonderfully decorated, romantic and spacious. Pippa was a great host looking after us and being kind and helpful. The bed was very special and comfortable.

    Biljana2017-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend in the Lakes. Pippa's place is lovely. The room is beautifully furnished and feels extremely homely. The gorgeous toiletries and super tasty flapjacks were a lovely touch. The location is great, away from the main tourist areas but more than close enough to explore the local attractions. We would definitely recommend to others.

    Thomas2017-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stopped at Pippa's for one night after a trip to Scotland and the room was the perfect place to relax and have a great night's sleep. The decor and bedding were superb and location was perfect. 5 mins walk from the local pub. Pippa was a great host and the flapjacks were a delicious treat for the morning with a cuppa

    Rachel2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Pippa's place is very cosy and she is a very helpful host. I would definitely stay with Pippa again.

  • Loved our stay here. Pippa is an exceptional host, so kind to my twelve year old son. The accommodations were just as advertised. The Watermill Pub (a short walk across the road) was excellent as well. Great location for exploring the district.

  • We visited in the middle of May for a long weekend. It's such a beautiful, cosy cottage with lots of character. We very much enjoyed the village of Staveley, the place has such a great atmosphere. 'More' bakery and hawkshead brewery were definitely a highlight! Would highly recommend pear tree cottage, we will certainly be back to visit!

    Cathy2017-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is really superbly located for exploring the Lake District. It's quiet, private and cosy and just a 10 minute stroll to the local (Eagle & Child - lovely beer garden); and 7 minutes to the best bakery (More?). A lovely stroll past the weir, and down the back lane parallels the river and is a safe & easy place to walk.. and snack on fresh roadside raspberries & blackberries (in season of course) ! A walk up to the scar is a great way to start the day. And, of course, only a very short drive to the tourist bustle of Windermere & Ambleside.. would strongly recommend this place if you want to be out of the main tourist hub-bub, but close enough to access it all! We stayed for 5 days...not enough time!

    Deb2017-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage in a wonderful quiet location. Very close to the village centre, which has fantastic bakery, cafes, pubs and a brewery. Wonderful walks are also right on the doorstep. Chris is a great host and has thought of everything. The cottage is very well equipped - you just need to bring personal belongings and food. Really good communication, instructions and easy to book. We stayed 3 nights in July and will highly recommend it.

We look forward to coming back and will be recommending to friends and family. Thanks again! x

  • A well kept, delightfully located farmhouse built in the 1700's that captured what we were after from the Lakes District. The room was clean, quiet and had plenty of character. Brian was a very friendly and accommodating host who provided us with a light breakfast to get the day started. Opposite the popular Punchbowl Inn restaurant which we lucky enough to get a reservation for dinner last minute which was a highlight!

    Harriet2016-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly what we were looking for. An out of the way farm house with loads of character. A great "home base" for two days of driving and walking around the Lakes. Comfortable beds, hot shower, healthy breakfast to get us underway. Thank you Brian!

    Lorie2016-10-29T00:00:00Z

South facing, small, traditional Shepherd's hut with views, internal shower, compost toilet, log burner, kitchen area. 2 mins by car to Kendal. Scenic walks from doorstep. Kendal is an attractive market town with an eclectic range of shops, cafes, restaurants, and a lively Arts Centre with a cinema and theatre.
Please note we are NOT on a bus route. You must have a car. Our Shepherd's Hut is a unique place to stay: It is situated on the junction between the rural road to Underbarrow and a bridle way named Gamblesmire Lane which leads to Cunswick Scar and Scout Scar, so it's ideally situated for country walks. It is fully insulated with sheep's wool so is snug, comfortable and warm. There is a microwave, electric kettle, toaster, indoor shower and a compost lavatory. There is a thermostatically controlled electric heater and a Hobbit wood burning stove for cosy evenings in. The stove heats the hut up very effectively, and we often chuckle when people light it on a warm evening and then fling open all the doors and windows when it gets as hot as a sauna. You can walk out of the door and along Gamblesmire Lane, a footpath that leads to Scout Scar and Cunswick Fell. There are bird feeders beside the window so you can watch the birds at close range and will wake to bird song. As the hut faces south east, you will see the sun rise over the hills and the valley below. On clear nights, you'll see the moon rise. At night, owls hoot in the coppice nearby and in summer there are bats flitting about the hut. At present, the shower works but isn't very powerful as there's not enough water pressure. There is cold water in the bathroom sink and hot water in the living area. In frosty weather the water supply has to be turned off and guests use the bathroom facilities in the house. There is bottled water in the hut. There's a seating area outside the hut with a table and chairs and a gas BBQ.It is situated in it's own little garden, quite near to our house where we also host Airbnb guests and are on hand to help you with suggestions for exploring the wonderfully green, gentle hills of the Lyth and Winster valley with their numerous green lanes and lovely views. The hut is next to the fell footpath gate and there are horse riders, mountain bikers and walkers going by at times, so expect to enjoy saying hello and having a pleasant chat. In summer, there are Lakeland Hound Trail races up the fell. This is a traditional Lakeland sport and very exciting to watch if you get the chance. (It has nothing to do with fox hunting, by the way). The living space in the hut is 7 feet by 16 feet, so it's about the same size as a small towing caravan but with much more charm and character! Shoes off indoors, please! Don't drain crockery on the lovely wooden sink top. Please dry up with one of our best tea towels instead!
Please note, that WE ARE NOT ON A BUS ROUTE and you will need a car to get here from Kendal. There is a car rental next to Kendal station. Public transport will take you to the main tourist areas, but not to the most beautiful and scenic. It is also very slow and frustratingly infrequent. Convenient as a base for the southern Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, our hut is in a secluded position in our garden with easy parking on the driveway. There is a scenic footpath beside it named Gamblesmire Lane that leads to Cunswick Scar, Scout Scar and footpaths to Underbarrow and Crook. Kendal market town is a 2 minute drive by car or a 40 minute walk across the Scar. It has lots of interesting small shops, a market on Wednesday and Saturday, a fabulous Climbing Wall, The Brewery Arts Centre, interesting historic buildings and yards and excellent cafes. There is also The Museum of Lakeland Life and Abbot Hall Art Gallery. Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall are a few miles to the south of the town. There are 5 award winning country inns that serve great food within a 10 to 20 minute scenic car journey of the hut. The nearest, at Underbarrow 10 minutes away is The Black Labrador which offers a free taxi service back to the hut if you book a table. There is also a rural pizza delivery service, if you fancy a night in and a take away.
  • Lovely hut, couldn't recommend highly enough. We really enjoyed our stay here. The hut has everything you need and is really honey. The bed is also really comfy! In a great area for walks (a few just a couple of minutes drive away) and enjoying the Lake District scenery. Thank you for having us!

    Sophie2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really cute and beautiful place to stay. Compact, but with everything you need! Susan is a kind, generous host, who thinks about the small details. A fabulous place to stay.

    Jo2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • God, what an epic place. It seems small at first, but offers more than enough space for two. The bed is one of the most comfortable I've slept in and the wood-burning hobbit stove is nice and warm addition. Susan is kind and bent on delivering the best experience possible. The outdoor welcoming committee of two friendly cats was fun as well. If you're looking for a romantic place to use as a base exploring the region, this is for you. It's a stones-through away from Kendal (keep in mind, on the main but not busy road), a car or bike is the best way to get around.

  • What a fantastic place . I have stayed in many places in the Lake District , but this by far has to be the best . A fantastic little hut with everything you would need for a few days away . A charming apartment in a traditional Lakeland house. Ideal for walking, cycling, climbing, rowing, sailing and kayaking. Wide choice of shops, cafes, pubs & restaurants in nearby Windermere & Bowness. Main tourist attractions within easy reach.
Willow is a located in tranquil woodland with views towards the mountains and fells. The apartment is part of an extension to Pinethwaite Lodge. The original part of Pinethwaite Lodge dates from the late 19th Century. Willow has a bedroom with double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The kitchen, dining and living area are all in one room with sink, electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, dining table and chairs, settee and TV. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and wash hand basin.
The Lake District is a year round destination and Pinethwaite Lodge is located near Windermere in the heart of the National Park. Outdoor opportunities are endless: walking, cycling climbing, rowing, sailing and kayaking - all within easy reach and Windermere Golf Club is just up the lane. The main tourist attractions of the southern Lake District are all on the doorstep – Windermere with cruise boats, Beatrix Potter attractions, a cinema in Bowness – and a little further away are the Aquarium of the Lakes, Car Museum, Sizergh Castle and Brockhole Visitor Centre. Bowness and Windermere are within a couple of miles, with a wide choice of shops, tea rooms, cafes and restaurants and modern and traditional pubs. The popular centre of Windermere is surrounded by very accessible vantage points that give glorious views of the surrounding area and lake. Orrest Head, a 784’ hill north of the town, provides one of the finest panoramas – as does School Knott – immediately behind Pinethwaite. Another easy climb is Biskey Howe, a 300’ hill east of Bowness, which has quaint narrow streets and a 15th century church. Windermere, the lake, has fourteen islands, including privately owned Belle Isle with its 18th century round house. Further afield, the list of stately homes, steam railways, lakes and tarns, homes of authors and poets, and fine eating places, is almost endless, all set in the deep valleys and foothills of the Lakeland fells, where some of Britain’s best scrambling and mountain walking may be found. Even in today’s busy world, it is possible still to leave cars and people behind and find solitude in many parts of the Lake District. In addition, Pinethwaite is a haven for wildlife: foxes, badgers, roe deer, and a wide range of birds, from buzzards, to long-tailed tits, warblers, fly catchers, heron, tawny owls and many more.
  • An attractive, well appointed self- contained flat with good heating, in a most attractive and central location. Charming, amiable hosts with an excellent knowledge of the area who go well out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Highly recommended. Be honest, clear, and detailed. The Cottage was nicely equipped and very quiet. Located in the countryside between Bowness and Windermere. Lots of local tourist info was supplied too. We would gladly stay there again Thanks Cecilia.

  • I have been to Windermere many times and always opted for central accommodation as a hub to explore the area. Willow is a hidden gem and a superb find by my other half in the most beautiful setting and not too far but just far enough off the beaten track. The self catered apartment offered everything you needed for a relaxing stay. The apartment was lovely and clean and breakfast in the garden was just wonderful (we got lucky with the weather), the views were superb. We were greeted by Paul & Cecilia who were warm and welcoming, both keen to explain the set up, how everything worked and point us in the right direction for a lovely walk near the Dalesway down into Bowness far nicer than the regular road route. We also managed the road back to the house and although doable the taxi was also an option (steep in parts with some helpful bench stops to take in the views). Cecilia also said probably not one for late at night but we were back early after some full on days away exploring. A handy little black book with all you need, history, maps - good wifi connection and a disco kettle what more do you need. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will check if you are available first in the future a great value for money option and already recommended our parents to come and visit.

  • This was a great little find so close to Bowness and Windermere. Cecilia was very kind and friendly and we would stay again.

    Natasha2017-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, very quiet yet near to lots of walkways down into Bowness and Windemere. We stayed here over a long weekend and it was the perfect little hideaway! Thanks Cecilia frankie & andy, Essex

  • Cecilia is an amazing host, the location is stunning. Woke up to seeing deer and pheasants roaming the grounds and to snow topped peaks in the distance. The apartment was cosy and perfect for us. Well situated next to the lovely town of Windermere and perfectly placed for all hikes and walks. Would recommend highly.

Spacious, quirky 3 bed flat, nestled in the stunning Lyth Valley. Part of a grand Georgian property, this 1st floor apartment has amazing rural views, off-road parking, use of extensive garden areas and an award-winning foody pub a short stroll away
Crosthwaite House is a stunning, Grade 2 Listed Georgian building with unrivalled views over the beautiful, secluded Lyth Valley, located in the southern Lake District. This apartment occupies the entire first floor of the property, and has 3 double, ensuite bedrooms (2 of which can be arranged as twin rooms), a spacious lounge with woodburning stove and a dining kitchen. Decor is chic and modern, with a vintage twist - we love to upcycle!
Crosthwaite is a quaint, picturesque village, with an award-winning gourmet restaurant pub (a couple of minute's walk away), a church, playground/sports area, village hall and a small primary school. We are in very easy reach of the central Lake District and the market town of Kendal is a very short drive away. There are numerous execellent pubs in the immediate area and a small local shop 10 minutes drive away.
  • Tiree anad Sam (EMAIL HIDDEN) us very welcome. We appreciated the milk, the vase of flowers and the Damson Vodka martini which was delicious. The accommodation was not only beautiful and spacious but very practical. It suited us as a mum and dad and two grown up children and their partners. Tired accommodated our grandson as well in a lovely bed. The apartments was almost equidistant between Kendal and Bowness on Windermere. An easy 10 minutes drive from each. We had a great week exploring the lakes. The Punch Bowl pub was 2 minutes away and was good for an evening drink. The log burner in the living room was lovely.

    Sheila2016-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is really lovely. Well furnished and in a good location. It was lovely to come back to at the end of a day out. We loved that each room had a bathroom which meant with 6 adults getting out in the morning was quicker! Lots of lovely walks in the surrounding area. The proximity of the Punchbowl is great. A really lovely week in the lakes.

  • Lovely accommodation and such a helpful host.

    Netty2017-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at this property. It's the perfect place for a cosy, walking holiday around the Lake District. You will definitely need a car as the house is very remote, but this only adds to its charm and seclusion. The views from the lounge are stunning. The house itself has a lovely lounge and kitchen and 3 sizeable bedrooms, all fitted with en-suite. It was perfect for our needs and we spent many nights relaxing by the fire with a nice glass of wine. We will definitely be back.

  • Our hosts have a great system, easy access, great country location with excellent views, Tiree puts the finishing touches on everything. We had a fabulous stay and highly recommend this place for a country week in the lake district. The house apartment was super comfortable and had everything. Loved the ensuites attached to each bedroom and the smart tv. Absolute winner!

  • Absolutely loved our stay at Crosthwaite House apartment. It's a beautiful place, very tastefully decorated, very clean and positioned in a beautiful part of the country with easy access to all the major sights within the Lake District. Loved the lounge in the evening with the log burner going - bliss after a day out in the cold. All communications with Tiree was easy, prompt & helpful. Can definitely recommend staying here.

    Lisa2016-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fantastic - book it now! The apartment is a true balance of practicality, design inspiration & little delights like the homemade Damson gin provided on arrival. Tiree was a fantastic host, replying to queries within hours & nothing was too much trouble when we had to make slight changes to our plans. The area has great access to the lakes, loads of attractions within 15-45 minutes drive away & the Punch Bowl pub in the village (2 mins walk) serves exceptional food.

Welcome to our spacious cottage style Lake District apartment which is a mile from Windermere and Bowness in a rural location with wildlife on the doorstep yet close to all facilities and the lake. All rooms are on the ground floor. In conjunction with our neighbours we try to maintain a peaceful environment.
The property is in a peaceful rural location. The approach is via a narrow road with passing places and then a private drive. There are walks from the door onto School Knott and Biskey Howe which have views over Windermere to the high fells. There are quiet walks and cycle routes to the village and further afield. Yet it is within a mile of the shops and cafes of Windermere village and a good base to explore all that the Lake District offers in outdoor pursuits.
Holly is one of three apartments converted from Pinethwaite Hall. The immediate area is wooded with visiting roe deer and garden birds. There is a level lawned garden with outside seating. Pinethwaite Hall it'self is one building in a cluster with a few others. We work very hard to maintain the peaceful environment with our neighbours
  • We had a lovely time at this neat little cottage. The place is cozy and has a lovely private view of nature where you can see birds feeding in the birdhouse and we were luckt enough to see some deers walk by as well. It's well equiped with very new kitchen utensils perfect for cooking up a nice christmas meal. About 20min walk to Windermere town where you can find lovely cafes, restaurants and cute shops. Andrew and Heather are very friendly hosts who made us feel very welcome. They've kindly offered us rides to and from the station as well due to limited transport over xmas. Lovely get away for two, and we would love to return again in summer! :)

    Elia2016-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • The host canceled this reservation 40 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

    Caroline2016-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely 3 night stay at Holly, Heather was very welcoming and showed us around so we knew where everything was. Huge comfy bed and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed and more. Good selection of books and maps for walking and was lovely seeing the birds coming to the feeders. Lots of little touches that made it special. Would stay again and recommend to anyone.

  • A lovely peaceful few days in beautiful surroundings in a charming and well equipped property with a very comfortable bed. Our hosts were very welcoming but not intrusive. I can highly recommend staying here particularly as it is in such a great location - away from everything but still a few minutes away from the centre of Windermere. I hope I will be back soon.

  • Had a lovely stay - great, helpful hosts, wonderful apartment and a tranquil location

    Jamie2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Holly is a wonderful little place. As long as you don’t mind a short walk up a fairly steep hill (or you drive), the location is fantastic as despite being a 15 minute walk to all the amenities and sights of Windermere, it’s secluded and quiet. Andrew and Heather are very attentive hosts; having given very detailed instructions on how to get there, they took the time to meet us at the apartment despite us arriving late, and made us feel so welcome by showing us how everything worked. They generously provided bread, milk, tea, coffee and lots of other essentials, and little touches like Kendal mint cakes (yum). Even hi viz jackets and torches were left for us in case we needed to walk up the lane after dark – you can really tell that they both care a lot for their guests and their experience. The apartment is equally well-cared for; I’m an INCREDIBLY fussy person and can attest to previous reviews that everything is immaculately clean and well cared for. Unlike most other self catering places I’ve been to, where once you’ve used up a single loo roll you need to buy your own, or upon arrival you realise you should’ve brought a clean sponge and washing up liquid, absolutely everything was provided in abundance, so Holly really felt like a home away from home. Everything is comfy, from the tweed sofa to the enormous bed. It was so lovely to come back from long walks or horse riding to a cosy little bolt hole where you can just relax.

    Claire2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Well this is a fabulous little cottage, it has everything you need. Its so clean and cosy too. The hosts were fantastic and on hand if needed. We arrived and there was tea, coffee and milk all there ready and waiting. Its location is spot on, you would think you are miles away from everyone in a kind of forestry/rural setting and yet we were only a 5 minute drive away from Windermere town. Ambleside is so close too around 20mins drive. Dont hesitate to book this little cottage, its a gem of a find and the huge queen size bed is a bonus

    Trudi2017-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay at Holly cottage, the cottage was perfect for us,and the rural location was brilliant, we saw lots of deer and loads of birds in the garden. We'll definitely be back x

A perfect rural Lake District retreat for two with a little luxury thrown in. Located in a separate annex, the place is great for stargazers, bird watchers (we have our own resident barn owl!) and wildlife lovers as well as walkers and cyclists. Only ten minutes drive from the bustling village of Bowness-on-Windermere, you would think you were a million miles away as it's just so peaceful. Own transport is required as there is no local bus service.
Located in the beautiful Lyth Valley, 15 minutes from M6 Junction 36, perfect for a couple or two friends looking for peace and quiet as well as walkers or cyclists. A number of the famous Wainwrights are within 20 mins drive. The guest suite, which has is own private access, is mainly used by our parents that visit regularly but when they are not here we love to host guests from around the world. The bedroom has a giant king size bed that also splits into two full size twin beds. With top of the range linen and a gloriously comfy mattress guests are sure to have a great night's sleep ( a friend with insomnia assures that this is so!). Guests also have their own seating area with TV and en suite shower room all recently fully refurbished. The private patio is the perfect place for watching the sunset and for star gazing as there is little light pollution. You will also have access to a kitchenette with microwave, fridge and kettle.
The Lyth Valley, voted the most beautiful valley in England, is in the south of the Lake District National Park. Although only 10-15 minutes drive from the popular attractions of Bowness- on- Windermere, the valley is never busy - it's a real hidden gem. For foodies there are 5 pubs within 10 mins drive all serving lovely food including the renowned Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank (our favourite on a winter's evening) and the award winning Punchbowl at Crosthwaite.
  • Lisa and her husband provided everything for us to have a lovely time in the accommodation. The place is beautifully decorated and the owners open to provide all the information that you need. A lovely staying, highly recommended! Alessandra

  • We enjoyed a lovely weekend in the cosy cottage! It is decorated beautifully and very comfortable, it is bigger than it looks in the pictures with a comfortable living area! Lisa and Adam were very helpful pointing us in the right direction for places to eat and a nice walk on the saturday, which is definitely needed as both of us did not know the area at all and the location is quite rural, which obviously adds to the effect of a weekend away in the country! The masons arms was a lovely place for food on Saturday, we didn't manage to book a table for upstairs but downstairs has lovely pub food! We would recommend the optional add on of the breakfast, beautifully presented in a straw basket! Definitely would recommend this place to friends!

  • Fabulous place, clean, modern, warm, great location, can't rate highly enough.

    Rhian2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wow - this place is amazing, such a peaceful retreat and yet only minutes from the best parts of the Lake District. Adrian and Lisa are the kindest hosts we've ever experienced, and they made our stay delightful. We will have great memories of our time here, and would definitely stay again. The Brown Horse and Masons Arms pubs were both great.

  • We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Lisa's. This is a brilliant place to stay if you are looking to relax in the lake district. The apartment is spotless and has everything you'll need. There is a nice view from the Patio and we were made to feel very welcome by lisa and her family. There are some excellent pubs within 10 mins drive and we'd recommend the Mason's Arms especially. Thanks again

Her place is tucked away in a lovely old farm setting overlooking the local fields, a close drive from some lovely places on lake Windermere. You will need your own transport but, is a fantastic quiet private place the is perfect for unwinding. Would love to stay again in the future.

The property is on the boundary of the Lake District National park with beautiful views across the fells. The property is spacious, warm and light and is a great place to relax after a day out exploring in the Lakes. There is a large kitchen/dining room which is perfect for entertaining and has a log burner and table which comfortably seats eight.
There are three good sized double bedrooms; two are upstairs and one is on the ground floor. The upstairs bedrooms both have king size beds and one room can be converted to a twin if required. The downstairs bedroom has a double bed and this room can also be converted to be an additional sitting room or playroom for children if you don't need it for sleeping. There are two modern and fully equipped bathrooms and a separate utility room. There is off-road parking for 3 cars, a large garden and a BBQ area.
The village is on the boundary of the Lake District National Park and has easy access to both the Lakes and the market town of Kendal.
  • The house is lovely, everything was very clean, great location. We had a great time staying there and exploring Lake District. Highly recommend.

  • The location of this house is amazing. It was good to see a character in house with loads of Emily's travel achievements. The travel instructions were really precise and helpful. We missed using a microwave. Not sure if it was there, please confirm from the owner if you need it. Just one suggestion that the board of the house as "Carling Hill" was not visible during the night and we had issues in figuring out the house board. But Emily was really thoughtful for sending a neighbour for help and taking care of any issues on the day of arrival. It was pouring rain when he came and helped us in directing the right house and parking on a very steep driveway. Otherwise the house is neat, organized and with all the basic amenities. We loved everything and it turned out to be most memorable trip of our family. Thanks again for hosting us. Cheers! Ashima and Saurabh

    Saurabh2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first stay on Airbnb and we are hooked and will definitely return here. With a 2 and 3 year old this was an ideal location. We could walk into town in less than half hour but also the bus stop is right outside. The views from the house are stunning and there is a field right outside with a river which meant we could spend the day playing without travelling. With the national park so close we were able to make the most out of a short stay. This will definitely be an annual trip now. The hosts made us feel very welcome and the little touches in the house were very special.

SELF-CATERING. The Studio at Lickbarrow Lodge is a ground-floor self-contained apartment, part of our "Arts and Crafts"- era home. We are located on a quiet country lane just 1.5 Km from Windermere and Bowness villages in the Lake District National Park.
The Studio is fitted with an Ikea mini-kitchen with cooking-hob, combination oven/microwave, fridge, sink and is well equipped with crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. Dining table and chairs, settee, standard-sized double bed. Shower-room with multi-jet shower and wc (linen and towels provided). Free WiFi. Private entrance with outside courtyard and garden furniture. Superb mountain views from our garden and from nearby viewpoints. Although we are only just outside the village, within easy walking distance, there are no street-lights and no light-polution so we can enjoy fabulous night skies.
The Lake District National Park is home to the highest mountains and largest lakes in England. Windermere is a great centre for exploring this beautiful region and The Studio at Lickbarrow Lodge is the perfect location in which to base yourself. Windermere and Bowness villages can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes or by car in less than 5 minutes. Each provides a range of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. We believe that you can't appreciate all that the Lake District has to offer in a flying visit so, sorry, we don't accept one-night bookings.
  • Lickbarrow lodge is just far enough from town that if you step outside at nighttime its perfectly dark with no noise at all, pure bliss, but close enough that you can get a cab into town for £5 if you wanted to go for dinner and drinks. The apartment itself has everything you need to be quite self sufficient for a long weekend. What makes this special aside from the gorgeous surroundings? The hosts - we found little fairy lights directing us to our apartment from where the cars are parked when we arrived and again when they knew we'd gone out for dinner and drinks. Adrian, having grown up in the Lakes, is very knowledgeable on the area and able to share tips for the best walks or places to eat. You will find a very extensive welcome pack when you arrive so don't worry if you haven't made plans yet! Adrian was also kind enough to find a book showing old pictures of a local quarry that we'd abseiled into the day before, which showed us where we would have been when the mine was working. It was little touches like this that made all the difference. Hannah and I had an excellent stay and we'll definitely look up Lickbarrow lodge next time we're staying in the Lakes. Thank you!

  • Staying at Elizabeth and Adrian's studio was a total pleasure. It is a perfect size space for a couple, and is really tastefully decorated. Big plus points are an awesome 5 nozzle super shower, heated bed, and excellent guides for the local area. Plus the location is quite good and easy to get everywhere. Finally, my car got stuck in the snow one evening and Adrian was nice enough to give us a ride back down to it in the morning. I would love to stay again.

    Jason2016-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth and Adrian made us feel so welcome, and were on hand with advice and recommendations. The studio was so cosy and comfortable with everything we needed, and in a brilliant location just a short drive from Windermere.

    Georgina2016-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Elizabeth's place. It is right in the middle of nature. Very quiet and well equiped, Elizabeth and her family make you feel like you were at home. (Better use a car to go there! There is no public transport, although taxi is not expensive) Thanks Elizabeth for being such a great host. Highly recommended.

    Angel2016-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Adrian is very pleasant and very helpful. He recommended things you can do, places you can go to. The lodge is clean, warm, with nice smelling towels and linen, small but perfectly formed kitchenette. It is within 5 minutes drive from the town centre. The jet shower is lovely, made us want to get one ourselves. Very pleasant stay.

  • Lovely place within close proximity to Bowness. Beautiful views, great for a long weekend in the countryside. Comfy bed, excellent shower, lots of info about the local area provided.

  • Exactly what it says on the tin. Comfortable and well situated, the studio was perfect for my girlfriend and I to stay as it allowed us to prep our own breakfast and lunch and was near enough to town to go for some lovely dinners. The views from the house were amazing and we were very pleased with our trip.
