“A household name for savoury cafe classics, the Ann Siang outlet offers a lovely respite from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding areas. Its food is reliable European fusion fare – which has since earned the chain a rep as a go-to place for long brunches, romantic dates and group celebrations. Desserts here have a cult following – grab a friend or two and dig into the enormous Double Chocolate blackout cake or the Sticky Date Pudding.”

“It’s your very own Parisian breakfast… in Singapore. Think freshly baked, buttery pastries, eggs in different ways, homemade jam, and a decadent croque monsieur that you won’t be able to pass up. The ambience will make you want to visit – the food will get you to return.”

“Another legendary coffee house situated near China Town. A stroll in this area will bring you back to an olden days China town. Order the Kopi Gu you (pronounced Yew). Coffee with milk (condensed and evaporated), and butter will be served to you. Legend has it, with butter, coffee will be at its peak efficacy. However, the taste (quite subtle) is also worth the try if you are not looking for a caffeine jolt.”

“Tucked away at the end of a row of shophouses along Prinsep Street. Start with their excellent Syphon Coffee ($6.90) or a bottle of White Magic ($6.90) — a chilled blend of espresso, milk and cream. A favourite and convenient cafe option among nearby art school students and those in town (nearest MRT is Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station), the space can fill up quickly on weekends, so visit either before or after the lunch rush to ensure seats.”
