Places to stay in Durango
A sunny fully furnished two bedroom second floor with private entrance is the perfect base for all your Durango activities! Great views, steps away from Main St, bike paths and the Narrow Gauge Train. LGBT friendly. Luxurious linens, wireless, premium Satellite TV, fully equipped kitchenette. Please be specific with number of guests and if you are traveling with children please provide ages. Insures a good fit for safety and comfort during your stay. Long term discounted stays invited.
Comfort level, accouterments, lighting, unique interior design have been carefully considered. And..."location ,location location" could not be better for getting the real feel of this charming Colorado town. Garage storage for bikes, skis paddle boards or ?. There is a fenced in bike area for quick stash or if not needing covered storage. drying towels are provided. Guests have complete privacy. Texting requests is preferable. However we are avail. for voice calls...or will return calls with in a reasonable time. BuckhornTransportation is recommended to from airport. Nest is a downtown location with its urban upbeats, downtown noise considerations that might be disturbing but are generally manageable. We have yet to have one complaint. The studio "Downtown Durango Diggs" ( see other listing ) is located on bottom floor with its own patio and separate entrance if you need a third bedroom for groups... Nearby..... Nest is sitting in the heart of the 3rd Avenue Historical District. A beautiful boulevard lined with trees, historic old houses and churches two blocks off Main Street. Second Avenue (one block or basically behind Nest) holds the fabulous Rochester Hotel (recommend staying here if unable to stay at Nest) which during the summer months has many garden afternoon music events and art exhibits. These events are a local's staple to meet up with neighbors and friends and are a nice way for you to mingle with the "natives". Steps away on Second Ave. touts the Durango Art Center, wonderful Eno for coffees (exceptional), wine and perfect tapas! Revolving local artists featured here. The newly remodeled Cypress Cafe owned by renowned local chef/owner Allison featuring local farm to table fare... Steamworks Brewery one block away one of five? Six? brewery's located a stones throw away...but Ska (our native son and pretty infamous) is out in Bodo Park and worth a visit,. Check them all out. P.s. It here is a distillery developing right in town... But not sure of hours and opening... More on that later. Highly recommend East by Southwest and sister restaurant The Golden Triangle for sushi Asian inspired and a good steak. Speaking of good steaks no one does it better than the iconic Ore House directly across street on 6th from the Golden Triangle. The Ore House is on locals short list along with The Palace Restaurant's Quiet Lady Tavern for special events and birthdays! The Ore House has been here for over 40 years and sports the feel of a true Colorado town steakhouse whose highly acclaimed Chef Ryan who recently raised the bar on the entire menu. Proof of birthday give you that % off on your Entree. Not bad! Previously mentioned Palace Resturaunt has beautiful dining rooms that look over the colorful train station (and isn't that why some of you are in town?) with the townies favorite patio for lunch and happy hour. Request bar menu (only avail on patio and in the beautifully sunny barroom) for better value pricing but same high quality delish burgers, ruebans (the best), special salads and more. Personally I love the almondine Colorado trout with house salad. The Chicken and Dumpling entree is a home away from home comfort food favorite. Top it off on Tuesdays "kids eat free"! Homeslice pizza is three blocks from Nest and is a local (college students) favorite for slices and salads with a pet friendly patio. Amaya spa with a soaking tub is one block away and has great treatments including but not limited to massages and acupuncture with hot soaking tub and cold plunge. And you haven't even reached Main Street! On your way out to hike ski or? Grab a burrito at Zia TAQURIA . Hands down best mex in town. Or head over to Bread as the sandwiches are undisputedly worth the mile ride up Florida road. Once a week stop for us. Best coffee, sandwiches and of course...bread. More recommendations on the FOODIE SIDE... Another revision of restaurant recommendations below... First I'm going to talk about the ones NOT to go to because there are so many good ones in town! These are a few that I wouldn't waste my money or time on. And these are restaurants that friends and I have had a three strikes you're out. MUTU's Italian. This one is tempting to go to because it's right on the corner from house. But fails on service and food inconsistency. KEN AND SUE's. Everyone will recommend this to you on the airplane but the locals have been kind of disappointed with this place it used to be good.. but alas no longer. FIRED UP PIZZA. Nice room? Kinda bright. Pizza is Soggy. Small portions including the salads. Tho fresh ingredients. Maybe they will work this out. Let me know if you go. "Now here the good ones! CHIMAYO. Tops the list has something for everyone always fresh the owner chef is there all the time as well as the front of the house be at a Bergeta, wife of chef and also the owner of course. The bartender Aaron really knows how to shake a drink. I like to sit either at the bar or at the tall tables in the front so you can watch the people. EOLUS. Wonderful food, nice room. Summertime they have a great patio on top of the roof with sunset views. Seasons. Local favorite. CYPRUS CAFE. Nice patio small dining area but Farm to table. Not huge portions. But good. ENO. Sister restaurant to Cyprus Cafe. Coffee, wine with tapas. Great place for a good "drip" and a nice THE PALACE RESTAURANT, eat/drink in the Quiet Lady a lounge or Patio. Lunch sit in the bar or on the patio ask for the bar menu dinners also ask for the bar menu. Better value. Love the Rubens, chicken dumplings, Pastas, salads, and more. Looks over the train stations the views are very nice. Great happy hour. Good nightly specials including Burger Night on Mondays. Kid friendly. ANIMAS BREWERY. Burgers and more. EL MORO. Eclectic menu pretty fabulous, great bar scene. Served later into the night than other restaurants. Love the hot cheese puffs. And Carmel corn. Bartenders are mixologists. ORE HOUSE. Creative young new chef. Steaks and more. Chateaubriand!!! Traditional Colorado steak house great sides and sauces with fish as well. On your birthday? (Bring proof) you get that percentage off your meal!! EAST BY SOUTHWEST and THE TRIANGLE (sister restaurants) Pretty great sushi and pad this. Heard the steak were relishes as well. Locals favorite. Try RICE MONKEY too. Casual FEW SEATS. Good take home. . My fav grab and go is SIZZLING SIAM. Next or near to train depot. All these restaurants are within walking distance. But I really love KENEBECK CAFE. It's a 10 minute drive west. But everything is great there and I think they even have a nice weekend brunch. It's in the La Plata Canyon's which which is beautiful. BREW PUB . Three blocks from Nest and Diggs. New brewery. Has a pretty creative chef. And their fried pickles are the best I've had anywhere. But you got to be into fried pickles. Their menu is really pretty sophisticated for a brewery. I need to revisit as the new menu looks interesting. SEASON's. All time locals favorite! HYWAY THREE ROADHOUSE. Two minute drive out of town, locals locals locals! Well loved Chuck Norton chef/owner is from NEW ORLEANS and his food selections show it to its shiny best. Can you say oysters? Gumbo? He's a fabulous guy and I should mention chef. Also caters ... If you have any need for a party, redemption. Only open Weds thru Friday. Early evenings happy hours only. An experience. ZIA TAQURIA !!! is one of the BEST REALLY THE BEST, Mexican food places in town, and there are two locations. Treat it as your healthy FAST FOOD ( grab and go on your way out to adventures) or dine in and enjoy their terrific margaritas. There's several coffee shops around nest and diggs. But I swear I get into the car and drive up Florida Road to BREAD. Best coffee and it's a great grab a sandwich for hiking or the train or whatever you have in mind for the day. Cookies, individual quiches (mmmm), brownies and BREAD is worth the drive. If you just feel like a bagel for breakfast DURANGO BAGEL which is down by the train station on second is pretty good. People swear by the DURANGO DINER for breakfast as a local's diner. (They will even serve you breakfast I'ver at the RANCH if you want Bloody Mary or? With their famous green chili huervos rancheros! ) Carvers is very popular with the biking locals. I like OSCARS which is over by the city market. Simple standard big played goodness. Truckers breakfast and diners lunch. That's a lot I know. They say Durango has more restaurants per capita than San Francisco. Please write down comments in the little books and let other guests know what you liked and what you might recommend. Hope this helps enjoy your time (eating, drinking) in Durango! If any other questions or you want me to specifically help you pick out a restaurant just tell me what you feel like having and I'm happy to send recommendations your way. Bon appetite!" Lynn Cole

  • The nest is amazing. Perfect location and incredible accommodations. Everything was absolutely perfect. Beds and furniture are very comfortable and great kitchen set up with thoughtful extras. Lynn makes sure you feel right at home and has great recommendations to ensure you have a wonderful Durango experience. I cannot wait to return!

  • Nest Durango was very nice. The location is fantastic for enjoying the historic Durango Old Town and the Nest itself is very comfortable with 2 nice sized bedrooms. Lynn has small notes all around that makes your stay easier and more personal. Would love to make my way back again!

  • We had a great time in durango and a great experience working with Lynn! She responded quickly to my communications, was friendly and went above and beyond to be helpful and see if we needed anything, though we never met in person. She knew we were coming for a few days of mountain biking and had 2 local MTB guide books set out for us when we arrived!

  • Our stay at the nest could not have been more wonderful. Lynn was extremely helpful and anticipated our needs, and went above and beyond to make us comfortable. The nest is a beautiful space, the beds are cozy with nice linens, and she stocked it with coffee and snacks and other lovely little details. She even took care of our dog for a day so we could go snowshoe! We would definitely stay here again.

    Ashley2016-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Nest was a super cute place and Lynn did an amazing job with all of the amenities. From the little snacks and beverages to the cozy holiday socks and lit up Christmas trees. The bedroom and bathroom linens are very comfortable and high quality. The location can't be beat being just a stone's throw from anywhere you'd want to go downtown. Lynn is a great communicator and provided us with all of the information we needed for an awesome stay.

    Kim2015-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Lynn’s place in early October – loved all the natural light in the apartment and being able to keep the windows open to let in the crisp fall air. The neighborhood is great – tree-lined streets and just blocks to historic downtown. Some have said there is a bit of street noise. I did not experience any noise that was disruptive. This is an upstairs unit, which is nice because there are no noises above you. I did not notice any noises from the main house below, either. Lynn will tell you there is a tight staircase to get up to the apartment, so be mindful of that if stairs are an issue for you. The ceiling is sloped with the pitch of the roof in the kitchen and living room, if you are tall, this might be a bit of a bother (not a problem at all for me). The kitchen space is good for fixing breakfast or a snack. Lynn as worked magic with the space available to stock amenities. There is a mini fridge/freezer, two-burner convection stove, Cuisinart microwave/toaster/oven combination device. You will find appropriate glassware for any beverage of your choosing, as well as a french press, drip coffee pot, and a blender. Bedding was nice and there were thick comforters for the cooler evenings. The beds are a little on the softer side, which can be a pro or con, depending on your preferences. There are also a number of great “host” touches: fresh flowers, a few beers in the fridge, vodka for martinis, chocolate, bottled water, and nice soap/shampoo in the bathroom. Lynn was very communicative and provided great recommendations for restaurants. At her suggestion, I tried Eolus and it was lovely.

  • Love, love, loved this place!! We traveled to Durango for a wedding with our 4 year old daughter and dogs. The rental was very clean, well-designed, (great linens and towels) and absolutely wonderful. Main Street was an easy walk, neighborhood was beautiful and perfect for our needs. Lynn was an incredible host, she not only saved a parking spot for us (parking is not an issue but she added the extra touch), left drinks and snacks in the rental and even a dog bed and treats. Our daughter loved the fairy garden and Lynn even left her additional accessories to decorate, along with chalk. We can't wait to return and would not rent elsewhere! Thanks for a great visit.

  • Penny and Cannon were amazing hosts. They were very responsive to all questions and took care of every consideration imaginable. The studio space is stylish, clean, the amenities are amazing and the surrounding landscape is stunning. It’s quiet, serene, and only about 20 minutes outside of downtown Durango, about the same to Purgatory ski mountain. It is a lovely place. I have to put in an exceptional note for the quality of the linens - so soft and comfortable! The space is lovely and cozy at a fantastic price. It was wonderful to come back to it after hiking in the snow all day. Keep in mind this is a studio apartment; the proper queen bed is a wonderful Murphy bed that sleeps two comfortably, and doesn’t take up any functioning room inside the apartment when it’s folded out completely, which is nice. The second proper bed is not a queen; it’s a futon that folds down and either sleeps on adult or two children, which might be tight. The other bed is an (albeit comfortable) queen air mattress which, when inflated, takes up almost the entire extra living space. So if you are looking to sleep six people in this apartment as the listing suggests, make sure you are either VERY comfortable with sleeping in extra tight and intimate quarters or things might get slightly weird. As it was, this was a family trip and we are used to squashing together on floors, couches, etc and being very comfortable with each other’s living habits, so it was just fine for us. We had five adults and an infant, so the bed space was perfect, because the baby had his own crib. However when all the sleeping areas are out and ready for everyone, there is very little living space in the studio, but it was enough for us! The wonderful bar in the kitchen was where we ended up socializing the most, with very comfy barstools, so the situation worked for us. Also, the only way to access the apartment is by going up a narrow spiral metal outdoor staircase. It was rather treacherous during our trip which saw a lot of snow and ice, and we had to be very careful. Also it was a short trip so we didn’t have a lot of luggage, but if you have heavy gear, large coolers, or elderly or small young kids, the staircase can be a bit of a nasty surprise, especially at night. However, I would gladly recommend this place to anyone. For couples, it would be an absolute dream, and for four people it would be the same. Past four it gets tight but if, like us, you are comfortable with your travel companions it shouldn’t get in the way of spending some lovely time in one of the most beautiful AirBnB’s I’ve ever seen! Thanks Penny and Cannon, for such a great experience!

  • Very clean condo with excellent views of the mountains from the porch and inside through the upper windows. Penny and Cannon's communication was timely and accurate. New fitness center is awesome with an indoor pool and numerous exercise machines on the second floor. I highly recommend staying at Penny and Cannon's condo to anyone going to Durango.

  • This was a great stay for our family of four. Better amenities than any hotel at a fantastic price. Great location for skiing at Purg and Penny and Cannon respond quickly to every inquiry. It is very clean and as described. We'd stay again.

  • Such a nice and quiet little get away thanks again!

    Jessica2018-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • This chic and comfortable spot is just north of town. A beautiful drive and not too far; but I always prefer to be a little out of town. The space itself was clean and modern. Comfortable bed & nice shower. Check in was easy and the hosts were very nice. Beautiful wooded area right outside the door. Peaceful place, would definitely stay again.

    Emily2018-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • This studio apartment was great for us. We were looking for a nice place to sleep between days on the mountain. We made the most of the space and were able to sleep 2 adults and 4 kids (10-18). Their air mattress was great for our 18 year old and the couch worked for our 16 year old. We travel with twin air mattresses for our younger kids, and with them all laid out we were all set. It would have felt small if we spent hours on end in it, but it was great for how we used it. Very clean and new inside. A great, affordable place on the mountain.

    Tony2018-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place is just as beautiful as all of the pictures. It's in between both the town of Durango and Purgatory resort. It was easy for us to take the 10 minute drive to the resort while being close enough to go to town for dinner. The condo is in a nice and quiet area. Would definitely stay here again.

    Michael2018-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for a great stay! It was better than we ever imagined . It was the perfect location, 8 miles from Purgatory! Everything was very clean and well kept. Great and easy communication. A Perfect Christmas Getaway

  • Kaysha's directions to the place were very accurate and checking in was a breeze through the front office of the country club, where you are issued key cards. Kaysha's place is beautiful. The large bright space with contemporary furnishings is very inviting. There are many large windows which offer excellent views of the Anamas River valley. It was extremely clean, which made us very comfortable and felt like home. We cooked all of our evening meals in the beautiful kitchen, which had everything that we needed. For eating, the place is more geared for two people, as there are only two stools at the bar. However, there is a nice portable table with stools, which seats four, in the closet that we liked to set up on the deck so that we could eat our meals outside. We made good use of one of Kaysha's hiking guide books in which she has added some infomative notes on hikes that her family has completed. We used that information to help us choose the Highland Mary Lakes hike near Silverton. It did not disappoint! I would also like to add, that due to the local forest fires, before our arrival, I contacted Kaysha about how the smoke might affect our stay. She said it could be smokey at times and generously offered to give us a refund if we decided not to stay. We really appreciated that, but as you can see, we decided to take our chances and give it a go. It turned out that there was only some smoke the first of our three night stay and after that it was great. We really enjoyed Kaysha's place and would not hesitate to stay there again!

  • This is a great place, especially for the price!

    Jean2018-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely space...the views are gorgeous and it has everything you need. :) We recommend this place to anyone!

    Taylor2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great experience! Me and a buddy stayed here to ski at Purgatory and it was the perfect location between the mountain and the city. The extra snacks, coffee and toiletries Kaysha provided were very thoughtful and simply the cherry on top.

    Richard2018-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time here - great for those with kids! Everything was super clean and nicely furnished. We forgot the kids’ toothbrushes and found some new ones in the bathroom. Our kids loved the toys and games. Comfortable beds. We are from Arizona and were not prepared to have no air conditioning. We went in July and it got really hot at night even with the windows open and fans running, so just be aware if you are booking in the summer months. Would definitely book again in cooler months!

Our second home is located at the Lodge at Tamarron, within the Glacier Club. The open loft studio sleeps a large group. Just renovated by someone who understands ambience, art and how to mix comfort with elegance. Our home is your home! Our family of 6 enjoy our weekly visit from Farmington, NM to swim, hike, snowboard, boat, and have adventures in the nearby areas. We ask that you treat our home the way you would want your home treated. Our home is special getaway that we want to share with you!
You may be here as a participant in a golf tournament, a couple that needs to escape the kids, needing a weekend away and alone, or a family of skiers. There is something for everyone. Personally, I would just go for the brand new gym! There is so much more than that in the surrounding area! Baker's bridge is something you have to see to believe; Electra Lake with a private restaurant; the Summer and Winter activities at Durango Mountain Resort (tubes, zip line, scenic lifts, year round roller coater, Alpine slide, gyro chair, bungie swing, biking trails, destination weddings); horse back riding, fishing paddle boarding and Kaiaking are minutes away. Down in Durango, you can raft down the Animas River, take a run or of course.. bike. Downtown shopping is one of a kind in Durango. And in case you forgot a swimsuit, there is a Ross, TJ Maxx and Walmart. Great health food stores and plenty of regular grocery stores. Don't be confused driving in to the Tamarron Lodge. You will turn in to the Glacier Club. There is no Tamarron sign right off the road. Tamarron is a part of Glacier Club. Long, boring story! https://theglacierclub.com
  • The Mountain Art House is located on a golf resort. It is in the perfect location to visit all the best places in Durango! Just a short drive away from the Purgatory ski resort which is a must to go visit. The interior is clean, homey and modern. Just about everything you need for your stay is provided. You also have access to the pool and gym. The view of the mountains from the downstairs and loft is beautiful! We were lucky to experience snowfall on our visit! Make sure to explore, there are some trails just a short walk outside the resort. I spent Christmas here and would highly recommend you to book your stay! We hope to visit again on our next trip to Colorado!

  • The condo was beautifully decorated. It was perfectly stocked. My family of four slept very well in the cozy loft. I appreciated the clean and organized space. My three year old loved the toys, books, and coloring supplies. We were able to spend the day enjoying the snow and then ended it with a swim in the heated pool. Amy was a great host. She was helpful and very quick with responses. We hope to come back again!

  • This was a phenomenal place to stay. Just outside of the city with beautiful views. The place was very clean and it was much larger than I had anticipated. Francie was very responsive to my messages and made sure that we were happy with everything. The best part was that the shower was also a steam room so we made sure to enjoy that every night! I highly recommend this location if you're staying in Durango!

    Michael2016-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place is awesome!!! It looks just like the photos provided. It was everything you need for a nice getaway. Frances was amazing and gave quick responses. She was a great host, she left us breakfast and everything that was needed to bathe. I highly recommend her and this place.

    Ally2018-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Thank you Francie for opening up your ranch for an awesome stay! Our family had a great time visiting Durango and surrounding area. The ranch provided an awesome break from city traffic and noise. The kids loved the all of the horses and of course the Hound dogs. The loft above the barn was clean, and filled with great views from every direction. What a great place!

    Joe2018-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • The loft was absolutely perfect for myself and my 2 teenage children. Very spacious, gorgeous views in all directions, clean, adequately stocked kitchen utensils. If you want quiet and majestic beauty, this is the place for you. As we spent the majority of our time sightseeing in the Durango area, we did not spend a lot of daytime hours at the ranch, but my children did get a chance to see a side of Colorado we hadn't seen before with the horses and ranching community. The drive into town was a little longer than I expected, but nonetheless it was a beautiful drive through Wildcat Canyon. The pictures on the website don't do the loft justice--it was much more beautiful and spacious than I anticipated. We would definitely stay here again. Francie was very personable and gracious to us.

  • Beautiful loft, beautiful property. The living space was large and spacious, with amazing views, and it was fun to walk around the ranch and see the dogs and horses. We highly recommend this property.

  • If you want an authentic ranch experience with sweeping views this is the place. The ranch is amazing, clean and modern but with that cabin feel. It's a little outside of Durango, but that's why you'd be looking at a place like this. We weren't able to meet the host, Frances, but her ranch manager was very helpful and responsive. One small inconvenience is the well water isn't potable and smells of Sulfer. However, it's not nearly as bad as it sounds and 4 gallons of bottled water kept our family of 4 well hydrated for 3 days. She has filters on the bathroom for teeth brushing and such. Overall the place was fantastic! We loved the horses and dogs and will definitely stay there again when we're in Durango. We highly recommend staying here.

  • We stayed at the barn on Francie's horse ranch with our 21-month old. It was great to have a separate room for her and a spacious living area for us after she went to bed. The place is larger than advertised. There is well water throughout that smells sulfuric, so if you're not used to that it might come as a surprise. The filter on the sink in the bathroom allowed for drinking water for coffee. Francie is an excellent host and brought us bagels and OJ and was there to respond to anything that arose. We liked being just outside of Durango with a very scenic view and a short drive to amenities of the town. Our toddler loved greeting the horses and tractor in the mornings.

  • My husband and I both loved our stay in the barn loft. The loft was incredibly well thought out and provided everything one could need for a comfortable stay. Watching the continuously changing skies from the 360
