Food
“Legendary local pro surfers Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Bede Durbidge and Josh Kerr, together with long-term mates and their main man, head brewer Scott Hargrave, launched their first beer—Balter XPA—in early 2016. These days, Balter is stocked at a staggering 100+ bars and restaurants across the country. Balter’s sexy Currumbin-based headquarters serves a roster of experimental batches; complete with a food truck, the odd pro surfer appearance, tunes and a cool crew. “THE VERDICT New on the scene in late 2016, 8th Ave. Terrace is an intimate contemporary restaurant and neighbourhood bar located in laidback Palm Beach. Spread across two floors, the lower open-air terrace level is a breezy bar where you’ll find bartenders with great banter and happy drinkers exploring the vast wine and cocktail menu. But if it’s dinner you’re after, venture further upstairs for a cosy table and friendly waitstaff that will help you navigate the impressive food menu with the likes of beef carpaccio, citrus-cured salmon, marinated eggplant “loussaka”, gourmet fish and chips, and slow-rendered duck breast. This is hands down one of the best new restaurants on the Gold Coast!”

Café
“Wildernis Cafe + Bar is the sunny precinct’s third new opening in less than two weeks, with more still in the pipeline. These guys have been keeping their efforts on the DL from the rest of the Gold Coast, though anyone living in the area will have eagerly watched the massive fit-out unfolding over the last few months. Crawling with tradies at all hours of the day and night, there have been some creative juices flowing to shape the chill new day-to-night venue of Wildernis.”

Park
“Laguna Park isn’t a huge park; however it’s got something for everyone. One of the best features of this park is its beautiful lake and sweeping grassed areas under shady trees. If you are a walker you can actually walk around the circumference of the lake which is around 1 km. If you follow the pathway clockwise you will end up on Tahiti Ave, continue around to the grassed area in front of the homes, there is no defined pathway. Check the map below for more details.”

Natural Feature
“Great place to lie on the beach, paddle board and kayak on Currumbin creek which runs into the ocean. The Currumbin Creek waterway and the Alley, the entrance to the ocean, offer a protected and patrolled haven for all kinds of active water sports. There is good Flathead and Bream fishing off the rock wall or Taylor off the beach. Currumbin also has a gorgeous right-hand surf break which is a specialty for graceful longboard riders. ”
