Café
“ This cafe is located in the town of Elk, approx. 15 miles south of Mendocino. It will take 20-30 minutes, depending on season and traffic. Driving along the coast is scenic and beautiful, so take your time. The food is great, atmosphere even better. This is a local spot and very popular, so during the summer season, can require a bit of a wait. If you have a larger party, they will take a reservation, otherwise, its first come, first seated. There is an outdoor deck that has a nice view to the ocean side. It can be a bit brisk, even in summer, so have layers to don. The beach is located across the street and is a great way to either work up an appetite or work off a meal. ”

“Recently awarded a Michelin star, an insanely good meal. The price tag is no small thing, so check in to see if they have availablility for a drink on the patio at sunset if you are looking for something more low-key. ”

Indie Theater
“A parking lot for the beach access is on Highway 1 across from the Elk Store. The visitor center and town museum is located 100 yards north. A well-graded trail leads from the parking area down to the driftwood-laden beach where Greenwood Creek pools at the base of Bonee Gulch. This is a picturesque spot to say the least. Gunderson Rock is a rock island that stands tall just offshore from the beach. ”

Store
“Recently revitalized and now quite charming, the Elk Country Store has so much to offer including a deli where fresh wraps, sandwiches, soups and more are made up daily. Right across the street from the Elk Greenwood State Beach parking lot. Grab a sandwich and take a walk down the beautiful and often empty beach.”
