History Museum
“This is a surprisingly awesome place, with local stuff ranging from mastodon bones to Shoshone artwork to Basque shepherding gear to mining and cowboy equipment. Some of it's kitschy, some of it's cool, all of it is a great window into Elko County's past. There's a whole wing of taxidermy, too, that doesn't have much to do with Elko County history but is still interesting to see. The traveling exhibits can be pretty amazing, too... for example, the museum recently hosted a collection of artwork by beloved Western author Will James. Wonderful stuff.”

Fair
“Labor Day Weekend every year. This is the quintessential old-time county fair, going strong for 99 years and counting. Visit the Home Arts building to see amazing quilts, hobbies, flower arrangements, Indian crafts and more. Head to the 4-H barns to watch kids show their animal projects, and then head to the sale for the fun as local businesses outbid each other to buy the grand champion steer. The grandstand entertainment includes live thoroughbred and quarter horse racing - complete with parimutuel betting - as well as an extensive stock horse show. A carnival, all kinds of Fair food, the Cowboy Dance and the best people watching you'll ever enjoy make for a fantastic weekend. ”

“The best Mexican food in town comes from a food truck. They have two, one that parks at 3rd and Idaho, and one that parks at a gas station on East Idaho street. This is the classic stop to refuel after a big road bike ride.”

“It can get noisy and crowded, but the vibe is fun and they have a wide variety of microbrewed beers on tap, including locally-brewed offerings from Ruby Mountain Brewing. Their pizza is the best in town.”
