Life in the country
  • Very cozy and very clean cottage in the middle of God's country. We had a wonderful time here with our 15 month old daughter. She met chickens, cows, bulls, and a little calf. We picked eggs straight out of the coup, still warm. The hosts are wonderful warm people. It's close enough to Des Moines, but still far enough to be able to enjoy a classic Iowa farm stay. Highly recommend!

    Maggie2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Don't be afraid of the chickens! They think you have food. Wait for beautiful sunrises and hope for dramatic thunderstorms. Bring toiletries. Prepare to relax.

    Julie2017-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Julie's house was perfect for our family we were traveling all the way from Las Vegas NV with our 4 kids, cousin, and father. There was plenty of space for all 8 of us, Julie was amazing with everything! From being welcoming, showing my kids the farm, fresh eggs from her chickens, and even helping me with trying to find the best locations to live, our family will be locating here in the next month. We would definitely come back to stay at one of her places if your home isn't ready. Definitely recommend Julie!

  • We had a pleasant stay. One issue was immediately resolved and the caretaker was courteous and friendly.

    Kathi2017-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Despite the weather not cooperating, we had a great weekend stay. The house was comfortable, and we made use of the many games that were on hand. Julie left us fresh fruit and coffee, and she was very communicative. The farm setting was peaceful, and it was fun to see the cattle come in and out. A nice weekend of relaxation that is a quick drive from Des Moines.

    Andy2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect location for us visiting family in the area. Though right off of I-35, you would never know it. It is a quaint, peaceful little farm house that offered all of the comfort and convenience of home. Julie was very responsive to questions before and during our stay. This is a great place and we certainly will be staying here again.

    William2016-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Julie's cottage was perfect for a weekend at Hinterland without the camping! Really convenient to get back and forth and perfect size for a friend and I. We would definitely stay here again. Julie is a great host.

    Jenny2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Julie made me feel welcome by communicating with me prior to our stay. She was very gracious in wishing us a good stay and fun. Then afterward, she texted me to ask if we had a good time. The location was great, very accessible and country quiet. The pictures were very accurate...

A lake front house on a 500 acre private lake with a dock on the property, 130 feet of shoreline, excellent swimming, and mature trees. Close to 1000s of acres of public hunting land, Graceland University, and a public golf course.
  • Our stay here was excellent. Perfect lake house for a weekend get away with friends! Bed space was what a bunch of single ladies were needing, and a cozy living space, inside and out on the porch, for days of chatting and relaxing. The neighbors were friendly and lake side was a quiet space to sit and enjoy. Fantastic place. Thank you, Jill!

    Sharayah2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Jill made our group feel so welcome. She was available to call and text before our trip and answered all of our questions. This house is wonderful for anyone looking to spend a relaxing weekend away. There are plenty of beds to sleep in, two bathrooms, lots of indoor fun and games in case of rain and a great yard and dock area for outdoor activities. The house was clean and very well maintained. Very comfortable for a group of 7-8 adults and/ or kids. The neighbors were extremely friendly as well. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely rent again and recommend to friends and family.

    Kate2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • My sister's and I thoroughly enjoyed our annual getaway at Jill's place. The pictures are true to the site description with one exception, the area was more residential then perceived. However,we ended up enjoying this during our many walks around the lake. The home was tidy and the kitchen, although small in size, is well stock with utensils. This is our 5th gathering and I feel one of the best!

    Alice2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our trip to this lakehouse was wonderful. Jill got back to me quickly when I had questions about the property. There is a very nice and close golf course near by and it was beautiful. We had fun playing on the doc and using the wet pad. There was firewood available to make a Bon fire. We were able to use the paddle board and had a lot of fun with the pin ball machine and lots of kids toys which was great!

  • We had a great stay at this family home. Off the beaten path, this home is on a private lake. We kayaked and used the SUP. The water quality in the early spring wasn't ideal for swimming and we saw notifications for swimmer's itch, however we still enjoyed being near the water. The home was welcoming and full of family belongings. The bathrooms and kitchen were clean and equipped with many cooking appliances. The family had provided wood and we had a bonfire under the stars. I would suggest this home for large groups and families looking for a lake vacation. I would note this home does not have Internet, this was difficult for me because I was traveling for work, but may be nice for families looking to unplug.

  • I really enjoyed my stay at the Armstrong house. The central location was perfect for getting around Mt Ayr. The house was clean and Sandy provided all of the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay. The front porch was a great place to unwind at the end of the day! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who needs a place to stay in Mt Ayr.

    Devan2017-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sandy's house was absolutely adorable and A GREAT place to stay. We came to Mt. Ayr for a family wedding. For me it all starts with the beds! The beds were super quality and comfy and we were all well rested the 3 nights we were there. The bedroom configuration worked out well for my family. Everything was clean and in working order and the location couldn't have been any better as it was right off the town square. We even used the field next door to play a little soccer! The porch was a great place to hang out too. Parking was very easy. There is really no breakfast place in Mt. Ayr so it was nice to have a well appointed kitchen. Sandy was a great communicator and I really appreciated the Young Living bath and cleaning products available in the house. This place makes me wish I had more reasons to go to Mt. Ayr.

    Kathryn 2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Our family of four stopped here for the night on our road trip to see the total eclipse and this was perfect accommodations for us. The house was very clean and comfortable, and the central location made it easy to walk to dinner when we arrived. Sandy really pays attention to details when providing amenities for a comfortable stay, such as making sure there are night lights available and even providing essential oils and a diffuser for those who enjoy that. I would highly recommend this property to anyone needing a place to stay in the Mount Ayr area.

    Pamela2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • We came to the area for my son's college graduation at Graceland University. The house was a scenic 20 minute drive from the school . The neighborhood has plenty of stores and restaurants, just minutes away . The local BBQ place is awesome . The people in the community are very friendly and welcoming. The property is clean, well maintained and has all the necessary amenities. The host, Sandy, is easily accessible and answered any questions I had timely. I highly recommended this property, it has so many extra touches and true midwest charm .

    Angel2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • The house is equipped with new appliances, everything we needed in the kitchen and bath. My only negative is maybe get one more rocking chair for the front porch, we had beautiful weather to sit and relax.

    Liz2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Nice clean cozy house

    Dave2017-06-18T00:00:00Z

Located in rural southern Iowa 1 hour south of Des Moines on I-35. Home to painted sunsets, billowing hills of grass, and sweet sweet serenity. This modern brick rancher is 3,600 sq. ft. plotted on 4 acres with direct access to a paved bike trail snaking through 5 miles of farmland countryside. Anglers enjoy 3 small ponds a 3 minute walk from our backyard.
My parents had five kids--back in the day--now they are empty nesters. We have four bedrooms to spare with four waterbeds. One of the rooms has a normal bunk and a waterbed. The rate is based on a per room basis.
Lamoni is only 1,200 population with University located right up the street from our home.
  • Evelyn and Paul were very accommodating and went out of their way to make us feel right at home!

    Darcey2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Evelyn and Paul are congenial hosts and warmly welcomed us to their home. They are great hosts, allowing us to share their Wi-Fi, television and lovely home. We were on RAGBRAI, and they allowed us the use of their washer for our jerseys. Thanks Evelyn and Paul!

    Rob2016-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • I had never used Airbnb before, so I didn't know what to expect. This was a very large, comfortable, homey place to stay. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating, and I felt as if I had known them for years! My room was very comfortable, private and quiet. The only downside for some people might be that the home had all waterbeds and one bunk beds. That didn't bother me because I had owned waterbeds myself. All in all, it was a great place to stay!

    Deb2017-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • I felt right at home at Silver Street Garden Patch home. Communication with Evelyn was wonderful the week of through my departure. I didn't have the opportunity to meet Evelyn and Paul however it didn't feel like it. Evelyn and I spoke and texted frequently to the point it felt as if I knew her! I met Casey, their son, and he was very sweet. Overall this is a place I will visit again for sure!

My place is a great getaway for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (pets).
The setting is rolling hills with three ponds on the 170 acre property. The lodge is a large two story house. It has three bedrooms upstairs, with two bathrooms and three bedrooms downstairs with two bathrooms. Also a bonus room with queen bed, bunk beds, and couch that makes into a bed. Directly behind the lodge is the guesthouse, it is all one level, about 2,300 square feet. Most of it is an open floor plan, but it also has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are 8 beds ranging from a single to king bed. (Most of them are double.) Many antiques and unique pieces of furniture are sprinkled throughout the bed and breakfast.

Need a break? Get away for the holidays! Relax and unwind with family and friends in the country! Unwind on the deck or Zen porch. Explore the natural amenities offered in the area. Much of the house will be shared space, but I offer two private bedrooms. One with a queen bed and the other with a full and a twin.
Take a break from being "connected" and enjoy the here and now. Wifi is not available, but many guests comment about how much they enjoyed being disconnected during their stay.
Just a few miles from the nearest town, the area is surrounded by beautiful Southern Iowa countryside. The nearest neighbors are about 1/2 mile away, so take in the peaceful sounds of nature. Several wild animals have been seen on the property including deer, quail and possum. 3 Mile Lake and 12 Mile Lake are only 15 minutes away. This location is a good base if you’re wanting to explore the area’s natural resources.
  • We had a fantastic weekend and having such a wonderful place to stay was a big part of it! Denise and her husband and mom welcomed us when we arrived later than we thought on Friday and we had a wonderful time visiting and were very comfortable all weekend. The house is beautiful as well as well as the setting amongst the rolling hills of south central Iowa. We would highly recommend this place to anyone who would love to experience the beauty of the mixture of small lakes, trees/forest and rural Iowa crop farming life.

    Cheryl2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Denise was a wonderful host. Her home is clean, pretty, and comfortable. And most important to me very dog friendly. My bed was comfortable and the location very convenient for my dog trial. I'll be back!

    Claire2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • So relaxing out at Denise's. Her place is so close to our outdoor activities at Bird Dog Ranch near Thayer.

    Petra2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Denise provided everything stated, and then so much more! She's a truly kind, thoughtful, and considerate host. I believe it would be impossible to stay at her oasis and not want to return again, for the friendship as well as the environment. It was the best AirB&B experience we've had to date!

    Johanna, Matthew, & Jasper2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • The experience was a 10! Everything was very clean and easily available for us. Our hostess Denise was super to work with and extremely accommodating. The home and amenities are just beautiful. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

  • This is the second time we have stayed here. Denise is a great host and makes our stay relaxed and comfortable. We really enjoy grilling on the deck and having dinner on the screened in porch. Her house is only 5 miles from outdoor dog competition events we attend in Thayer. So we will be back in the spring.

    Petra2017-04-11T00:00:00Z

The cabin itself was more than adequate and stocked with all the necessities. Sue and her husband met us when we got there, and we found out we were their first guest at thus lovely cabin. • This cabin and location is beautiful. If you are looking for a peaceful and secluded location this is the perfect place. Sue was a wonderful host and very welcoming. Sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee in the morning was magical especially because of the lake view. Great place to relax and fish. I would highly recommend this air bnb to anyone looking for a cozy cabin with a great view. The fire pit was also great for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows with our kids.

Secluded and beautiful area, comfortable, well equipped and peaceful setting. As echoed by other guests, the only thing we needed was more time. We plan on returning with our children and hope to make the Cabin by the Lake a destination we return to again and again.

All of our questions were answered immediately prior to arrival, check in and check out went smoothly. The value and week discount made the home far more affordable than a hotel stay.

  • This is hometown Iowa at its finest! If you are looking for a serene country setting, this is the place. I brought my family here to re-create a sense of my childhood experience growing up in the country, and it was wonderful. The kids were able to gather eggs each morning, walk through the rolling hills, and experience the real Iowa. We even attended country church on Sunday morning at the century old church on the farm where a congregation still meets. Julie was a wonderful hostess and everything was in place for us to have a great trip. I would love to make this a yearly adventure for our family!

  • The house is a real local treasure. We had the privilege of staying in the family suite on the third floor which has two bedrooms and a private bath (with a lovely slipper tub). The only inconveniences are unavoidable in a house of this age (watch your head on the top floor) and are more than made up for by the charm of this old lady.

  • Wonderful, spacious home for a large group. Plenty of room to spread out and relax. We had an enjoyable stay and the hosts were great and made check in and out a breeze.

  • Susan was friendly and her space was comfy and cozy!!! She very sweetly had a cup of coffee ready for me when I came upstairs. Winterset should appreciate her as their primary tour guide! She knows the town and is happy to share information. I would happily stay with Suzy again!

  • The home was in a quiet area of town and was clean and comfortable. Susan was very friendly and accommodating of our needs.

  • Susan was very friendly and extremely responsive. She was great about answering all our questions and providing directions leading up to to the stay. We had some last minute changes in plans, and Susan was really understanding and flexible about helping us adjust the reservation, which we really appreciated.

  • Susie was a wonderful host who made us feel right at home. My group of three adults really enjoyed our two night stay in Winterset. We had the entire newly remodeled basement to ourselves which included a couple bedrooms, a bathroom, and even a game room for us to relax in. We had access to the kitchen which we took advantage of too. The quaint town is just blocks away. It has a nice downtown square with some local shops, the John Wayne museum, and one of the nearby Bridges of Madison County.

    Small town "Iowa Nice"
    14 reviews
This home is a large, turn of the century Italianate with 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths that has been fully renovated and updated. It is nestled in a quaint, small southern Iowa town with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay.
Most of the local community residents refer to this house as the Doze house. J.E. Doze was a former State Senator of Iowa and owned the first Ford dealership in Wayne County. No expense was spared when the house was built and as a testament to the workmanship of craftsmen in 1908, the house is solid as a rock. 10 foot ceilings, pocket doors and ornate woodwork are all features of this house, and the property on which it stands covers roughly 1 acre.
Humeston is a small, quaint and tidy southern Iowa town with a friendly atmosphere. It has become known as a great place to take a day trip to for the shopping attractions in the main retail district.
  • This house is amazing, vintage restored beautiful! The kitchen was so nice everything you need plus more, refrigerator was stocked with eggs, juice, etc. super! Four bedrooms with 4 very comfortable beds. Not much of a town but that was okay. Highly suggest to rent this house! Thanks Todd!

    Cheryl2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a great space! When I booked, I was just thinking about lodging. It turned out to be a fabulous venue for catered lunch and brunch (Cindi at Grass Roots Cafe was outstanding) for about 25 family members. The restored house was beautiful and comfortable, and the kitchen was well organized and easy to work in. The rooms are beautiful and the beds comfortable. We were busy with family events all weekend, but liked the options to hike or bike the nearby Cinder Trail. Note that certain cell phone carriers (AT&T, T-mobile) were good for data, but not for phone calls or texts. Be prepared to plan ahead as you may need to make calls from a nearby town.

  • Our family went to Iowa for the 56th Annual running of The World of Outlaws Knoxville Nationals between August 9th-15th, 2016. I have NOTHING to say negative of Todd, and his family for providing the utmost hospitality, and the necessities anybody would ever need!! The house was gorgeous, and what makes the house extra special, is that it was built in 1906. The house has been remodeled, but with very modern appliances, but it keeps the awesome woodwork, and the looks from the 1900's. We only met Todd upon our arrival, and he was very gracious to give any information before our arrival, as well as when we arrived, such as stores, directions, and anything else I asked him. Todd's father would come by and water the plants on the front porch etc, but that was A OK with us, as he was very helpful as well as far as information about the area. The house is pretty much fully equipped with whatever you might need, and I recommend to go to the house prior to going shopping, as Todd has the place loaded with, spices, silverware, some food items etc. We bought stuff from the local stores, and it wasn't even needed. That's ok though, as we left what we didn't use, and replenished a few items we did use during our visit. The pictures on Airbnb.com do NOT do this house justice!! It is very gorgeous with front and back patios (with a gas BBQ), an awesome kitchen area, and the wood work and antiques throughout the house are amazing!! I'll post my photos when I get the chance in a day or so, but until then, Thank you very much Todd for allowing us to stay in your gorgeous house!! We WILL be back, or maybe buy it? :-) Thank you again!! Maryann, Terri, Tim, and Kevin Hunt

    Kevin2016-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn't have been happier with our choice of location for our annual girlfriend weekend. The house is more beautiful than pictures could ever do it justice. Both Todd and Karri were amazing hosts and made us feel very welcomed. The house was well stocked with spices, cookware and everything we needed. We made a big breakfast each day and ate outside on the wonderful back deck. This is the Best Air B&B in which we have had the privilege of staying. We enjoyed the town of Humeston as well as some other nearby communities as well.

  • The description is accurate. This home is located easy walking distance to nearly all the sites in town to include restaurants, museums, and shopping. Our group arrived in 3 cars and had plenty of off-street parking in a quiet and safe neighborhood. Our hosts were out of town but through email and texting they made certain that we had everything we needed - e.g. key, WIFI password, wash cloths and bath towels(URL HIDDEN)The master bed was very comfortable and our group had a very relaxing stay with a big screen TV in the home, a porch swing out front, and two patios to spread out and unwind. Great accommodations at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Take a Time Out to our country barn home. Escape the hustle and bustle with this modern farmhouse. Vaulted ceilings, open inviting kitchen and a deck with views that are breathtaking is the perfect way to get away from it all. The upper level of this house is an industrial/vintage style appointed 3 bedroom home. The lower level is a fully furnished 1 bedroom apartment, an amazing honeymoon apartment.
Enjoy the stars, deer, fresh eggs from the chickens and a comfortable casual get away. The barn wood in the home is from my parents barn in Michigan. The patriotic American flag welcomes all that enter the designer kitchen. A kitchen with every pot, pan, tools and serving you can imagine. A cooks dream! The master bath is a spa retreat. With heated floors, two person tub and a rain shower to wash away your cares. The upper deck allows you to see for miles. The sunsets are intoxicating. Secure wifi and big screen TV in the family room. It does have a flight of stairs to get to the main floor. No handicap access to second floor.

We are in a rural setting - the closest neighbor is half a mile away and we are on a gravel road. There are no street lights - which provides a great setting to see the stars! Shag Bark Farms is a hobby farm which provides for a relaxing setting. Sometimes there are cows mooing in the neighboring pastures, always birds singing, frogs croaking & lightening bugs during the summer.
  • Even before our arrival, I was impressed with how Jerah and Jerrod prepared us for our stay. They were responsive and proactively informed us of their location and facilities. Upon arrival, they had given us a s'mores kit, along with many notes and information of the local areas of interest. They were wonderful hosts, taking the time to interact with us, but also allowed us full access to their awesome home, with complete access to all of the amenities. I was beyond impressed, and will definitely return the next time I'm in the area!

  • Awesome place to stay - great hosts - beautiful country get-away!

    Diane2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Jarrod and Jareh were awesome host. They asked what our expectations were before we even got there. So, when we arrived, it was just as we had planned including a cold beer in the fridge to enjoy out on the beautiful deck in the backyard. Check in could not have gone any smoother. They offered a wonderful suggestion for breakfast. They listen to want you want out of your visit and were able to deliver the perfect little get away for our little family get together. The place was better than the listing. We were a very mixed group with different interests and there was something for everyone. The young couple enjoyed cuddling in the hammock, while our oldest son enjoyed watching TV in the walk out basement. I did some computer work while my wife enjoyed looking at all of the photos and art that they have on display. Jarrod and Jerah have excellent communication skills, and with notecards on how to operate everything we did not have to bother them with questions. It felt very much like being at home. They tried to help us avoid navigation problem before the came up. Read the communications that they send you completely and you won't drive an extra six miles... stupid Nuvi! It was my first time being in such an isolated place and it was both eerie and peaceful. We will be checking in with them again next year when we come back to Iowa if they will have us.

  • Our hosts were charming, and the listing was as described. We had all the modern comforts with the peace of the country. Although our hosts were there when we were, we definitely had plenty of space and felt welcomed but not hovered over. Beds, baths, and kitchen were well-appointed and comfortable. Jerah made sure we had clear directions and gave us lots of helpful information about establishments and sights in the area.

    Lynn2015-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • We met in Winterset for a family wedding. As parents of the bride, and first-timers in Winterset, we really needed advice and help. Jerah was right there with everything we needed from helping us secure a spot for a last-minute barbecue, to providing tinsel, ice chest, and anything else we asked about. Certainly over and above our expectations. We expected the home to be comfortable and clean, and that it certainly was. What we were not prepared for was their generosity nor for the beautiful setting. Coffee on the deck in the am with entertainment by song birds, and wine on the deck in the evening with entertainment by fireflies and frog. Reserve with them. You won't be disappointed.

  • I loved staying in Courtney's beautiful home. It's in a great location, in the charming town of Winterset Iowa, just a few minutes from the town square (and the highly-recommended Northside Cafe). I had the entire downstairs to myself, and it was very comfortable. Upstairs, Courtney has a big refrigerator and freezer to share - and a wonderful dog named Sammy. She must be a dog whisperer, because he's such a good boy. I highly recommend Courtney's place and would definitely stay there next time I travel to that area.

  • We were in the area to go see the Prairie Chickens at Dunn Prairie Ranch. Susan's place was perfect for the four of us - much better than a motel. A highlight of our stay was seeing the horses in the field right out the back window!

  • What A delightful farmstead you have here Susan. It was such a pleasure to re-discover a childhood of days gone by playing out during our stay. Greeting the morning with a fresh cup of coffee on the front porch, listening to the birds chirping and watching the horses grazing in the pasture makes a perfect start to the day. As a tourism professional for the past 12 years, my company classifies places such as this as "hidden gems". You have truly thought of everything from grinding the coffee beans to the luxurious beds and deluxe linens. It's great that you also offer farm tours to your guests (We call it agri-tourism). I wish we had time to do that, but maybe next time. Yes, we will be back to feed the calves and fish in the pond. Thanks again, Jerry and Linda

  • Great house on a historic piece of land. Tastefully decorated, inviting home. A nice getaway from the city.

  • My wife and I were passing through and initially planned to stay for a day or two on Susan's farm. However, the views, amenities, and peacefulness of the property made us fall in love with this place. We booked an additional 2 days because we didn't want to leave. My wife has a bad back, but slept without any problems on the Tempurpedic mattress. We worked for a good length of time during our stay and found that the WiFi was reliable. We enjoyed walking around the property and saw the lake, cows, and crops, which was fun for us. Susan was a fantastic host and was great with communication. We truly felt like this was our home away from our own. We would definitely stay again when in the area. Thanks for an awesome experience Susan!

  • We were looking for a place to stay for Homecoming weekend at NWMSU. We stumbled onto this AMAZING home! We were so lucky to have amazing weather for our stay. Susan was very helpful and readily available to answer any questions. Our kids (11, 14) were outside the entire time. They were able to take a tour of the farm, bottle feed a baby calf, ride on a tractor.....for my "city kids" it was so nice to see them interact with nature. The property is well kept, easy to find, and a great location. The house itself was adorable! So beautifully decorated. A nice mix of contemporary and country chic. I just LOVE the rocking chair in the sitting room! My kids loved the twin beds upstairs. They were able to adjust the beds so that they were sleeping sitting up. The queen bed on main level was comfortable and had cozy sheets. The bathroom had a tub and shower. The motion-sensored lightening was a great touch. Never had a problem with WIFI. We turned the TV on at nights only. There is a DVD player available, if needed. We used the gas grill several times during our stay. We are looking forward to returning to the farm!

    Jamie2016-10-30T00:00:00Z

Balcony bedroom suite in a restored 1896 opera house, on the historic Greenfield town square. Two bedrooms (adjoining) and sitting room with antique furnishings. Full bath with large, antique claw-foot tub. Third floor, stair access only. A unique overnight experience.
Greenfield, Iowa, pop. just under 2,000 is a quintessential Midwestern small town. Its uniquely designed town square is a registered Historic District, with the 1893 Adair County Courthouse at its tree-filled center.
  • This entire experience was magic. Our suite was off the balcony of this refurbished opera house. It felt like we were in a movie. A really good movie. Bathroom was a few steps from the bedrooms. To get there you walk out on the balcony and enjoy the spectacular view down onto a beautiful dramatic stage, curtains, and restored murals. Gorgeous. And, we had the entire place to ourselves - there is only one lodging in the entire place! Be prepared to haul your stuff up three flights of stairs and then become spellbound by the history and beauty and vibe. The opera house is on the Greenfield town square, which has in its center the historic brick county seat courthouse. Great architecture just exuding history and strength. Small businesses surround the square. Every person we met in Greenfield - Barb at the Greenfield Hotel, Nancy in the mercantile store on the first floor of the opera house, or the hostess at the Olive Branch restaurant next door - all had a passionate connection to the opera house and its restoration and its importance to the community. Every person was excited to share their personal story. This was the highlight or our cross-country odyssey. Make it the highlight of yours.

  • The farmhouse was great. My whole family of eight (including myself) had a comfortable stay here. I loved that there was a grill so we could do a bit of barbecuing while staying at the house. Julie even took my baby cousins out for a tour of the farm which they loved! Plus, she delivered a dozen or so of farm fresh eggs that made for a good breakfast. All in all, the accommodations were as expected, and Julie was a great host.

  • Good amount of space. Really enjoyed being able to make s'mores with the fire pit and cook our own food. Fairly remote location, but easy access to the bridges of madison county and pumpkin patches, which were our objectives.

  • Wonderful stay in the country but very convenient to the interstate. Great wifi. Loved the company of the chickens and cows. Comfortable, clean, enjoyed by all. Thank you for sharing your farmhouse.
