“The Blue Eye (Albanian: Syri i Kaltër) is a water spring and natural phenomenon occurring near Muzinë in Vlorë County, southern Albania. The clear blue water of the river bubbles forth from a depth of more than fifty metres. Divers have descended to fifty metres, but it is still unclear what the actual depth of the karst hole is. This is the initial water source of Bistricë river, 25 km long, which ends in the Ionian Sea south of Sarandë. Be careful of the strong current. ”

“The ancient ruins of Butrint famed for their size, beauty and tranquility are located approximately 18 km from Saranda. Butrint has a special atmosphere created by a combination of archaeology, monuments and nature in the Mediterranean. Butrint was officially recognized a UNESCO world heritage site in 1992. This recognition affirms its ancient and archeological appeal that has defied the forces of nature to preserve antiques that dates back to over 50,000 years ago. As a visitor to world recognized heritage site, you do not only get the rare chance of experiencing the ancient cultures, monuments, and civilizations but also enjoy the serene environment.”

Cave
“ Cave of Ioannina, Peama. The Perama Cave is next to the idyllic lake, only four kilometers away from the city of Ioannina, in Perama. It was discovered accidentally in 1940, during the Second World War, and after its end, it was photographed for the first time by Konstantinos Kassikis, a gymnast and amateur speleologist. Thus, John and Anna Petrochello (founders of the Hellenic Speleological Society) learned of the cave, and began systematic exploration and mapping to become the first tourist arranged in Greece. It consists of several successive halls and corridors decorated with stalactites, stalagmites, curtains and impressive columns in marvelous clusters. In 1956 fossilized teeth and bones of the cave bear were found. It also occupies an area of 14,800 sq.m. and the tourist route is a total of 1,100 meters.”

“i want you to go here during the day or as twilight is starting because the views from up here are breathtaking. with 360 degree view (like every decent castle has, here in Albania) you can see the ever growing Saranda town, the island of Corfu, Butrinti lake, the Riviera coastline and on the other side: the fields, rivers and majestic mountains ( or as my guest from NZ called them " small hills") its always windy so you won't feel hot but don't forget your sunscreen. during nigh time here you will find a display of Albanian culture and traditions starting from the food, souvenirs and the Polyphonic Musical Group ”

“Lëkurësi Castle (Albanian: Kalaja e Lëkurësit) is a ruined castle in Lëkurës, southern Albania. The castle is on a strategic hill point overlooking the town of Saranda, southeast of the town centre. From here one can control the whole town as well as the islands of Ksamil. I would suggest a visit on the evening in order to enjoy a beautiful susnset.”

Administrative Area Level 4
“Zagori is an area of great natural beauty, with striking geology and two National Parks, one including the river Aoos and the Vikos Gorge, the other around Valia Kalda, to the east of the imposing snow-capped Mt Tymphe. The 46 or so villages of Zagori were interconnected by mountain roads and traditional arched stone bridges until modern roads were opened in the 1950s. The stone arched bridges were built by benefactions from expatriate merchants in the 18th century and replaced older wooden bridges.”

A variety of activities are available in an idyllic scenery such as rafting, canoeing ,horse riding, ziplining etc. If you want to walk across the river (something that I definitely suggest) you must buy special shoes from the local vendors that you will meet at Glyki.”
