“Fiskars ironworks were based here from the 17th century, eventually becoming Fiskars the company. When Fiskars launched the 'orange-handled kitchen scissors' in the 20th century, they became hugely successful and moved their production to other locations. Rather than see the village fall into disuse, Fiskars company retained ownership of most of the buildings and invited designers, artists and craftspeople from around the world to move in. They were given accommodation to live and work, and tourists came in droves to see and buy their wares. Fiskars village remains a thriving design community, currently home to 600 people running market stalls, studios and shops all year round. Every other year the Fiskars Design Biennale brings thousands of tourists to the village. It's also in an area of outstanding natural beauty - as you enjoy the well-preserved traditional buildings, you can also pick blueberries along the forest trail, follow one of the many mountain biking trails, walk up to the local viewpoint or go swimming in the lake. All of these things are a short walk from the village centre.”

“A cozy bar behind the old Knife factory. This is where the villagers gather in the evenings. The interior is amazing and some evenings there is live music. Make sure to test the local gin, aquavit and of course the beers from our local brewery. (Note that this place might be closed during the low-season)”

“Bianco Blun shopissa on lasinpuhaltaja Tarmo Maarosen tuotteita. Paikan päällä saattaa myös päästä näkemään lasinpuhaltajan työssään. Tarmolta voi myös ostaa elämyspaketteja, joissa pääsee itse kokeilemaan lasinpuhallusta. Paja-aukiolla näkemisen arvoista on myös Upi Anttilan takopaja sekä monet muut alueen puodit. At Bianco Blu you can see and buy glass blower Tarmo Maaronen's products. You might also be able to see him working. He also sells experience-packages in which you can try glass blowing your self! :) You might also want to check our Blacksmith Upi Anttila's Forge.”
