  • A great cabin if you really want to be out in the bush alongside a rushing creek, with great bushwalks at your door. The kitchen is very basic but everything is beautifully kept and appointed, with everything you could imagine needing. Jody and Sandra are terrific hosts, offering the ideal balance of social contact and privacy.

  • Gorgeous little cabin, perfect for our last night in NZ. A great space to relax and a lovely night's sleep on the super comfy bed!! Breakfast was so nice and the owner was really kind and friendly. We had pizza at Hilltop Tavern about a 15/20min drive away which was great. The stars at night were unreal. Would definitely stay again :) A little microwave in the room might come in handy, but other than that, totally perfect!

  • The description was spot on. Excellent communication. Wonderful Hosts.

    Brigette2016-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jody and Sandra's place is a hidden gem of the Peninsula. Beautiful secluded spot for relaxing. We loved the sound of the river, abundant breakfast, coziness of the hut, the little personal touches and lovely meeting with the hosts and their kids and animals. This is the essence of the Airbnb. Highly recommend this place even though we would like to keep it secret:-)

  • This is a beautiful, secluded cabin. It was well sourced, tidy and clean and all it was advertised to be. The hosts are engaged in conservation efforts and it was good to walk around the property. The cabin is close to Akaroa and lots of other walks...really enjoyed it.

  • Hi Sandra and Jody, Thank you very much for your hospitality. This was our favourite AirBnB we have stayed at so far and will be back for a longer stay next time. Breakfast was everything we could want and more all set in an idyllic location. The hill climb in the morning sun was the perfect start to our day. Thank you thank you!

    Kimberly2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • What a magical spot! Unfortunately we got in late and had to leave early - would have loved to have spent a few days here. We had the best sleep we have had in weeks and the best breakfast too! Thank you! P.S. The pub grub at the Forsyth was also fantastic - thanks for the recommendation!

    Olivier2017-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • This little cabin was so great! It's about an hour off the main motorway but well worth the drive. You can see and hear the little creek from the front porch setting such a nice ambiance to eat with. Jody and Sandra were so great and set our breakfast out early since we had a long day of driving ahead of us. Very tidy cabin with all the things you might need (we even cooked rice in a pot on the BBQ!)Everything about the cabin was relaxing. Such a great place!

Banks Peninsula was created by a large number of eruptions of the volcanoes Lyttelton and Akaroa and was up to 25000 a year ago as an island. Memories of this geological past are everywhere: Rocky volcanic foothills, deep valleys and steep cliffs. Akaroa is founded by a small group of French colonists in 1840. Oldest city in Canterbury. The town possesses many historical buildings in French style, narrow streets and a pretty harbour. In the middle of the town is a beach where you can swim.
  • An absolutely beautiful place in the scenic surroundings of Akaroa bay. Cornelius was very friendly and showed us the property as well as giving tips for the local area. Shame we could only stay for night!

    Ben2017-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • We can't recommend this highly enough. Margo and Cornelius are wonderful hosts. The flowers in the gardens were exquisite. I most have taken 50 photos. The house is a beautiful old house. We had the lovely room at the front looking out to the water and hills. We enjoyed playing the piano one evening. The whole atmosphere lent itself to feeling cared for and for enjoying the company of other guests in the lovely dining area or outside on the patio.

  • Halfmoon Cottage is the place to stay if you are heading to Akaroa - Big house, never ending gardens, beautiful views, perfect location & top of all very friendly, helpful hosts. Cornelius and Margo have a well planned, maintained, clean & kid safe environment. Our stay here with our 1yr old daughter was very comfy. We will definitely stay at this cottage if in Akaroa again. Highly recommend this lovely accommodation.

An apartment (that is the ground floor of our home and separate from our personal living area) comprising two double bedrooms with sunny living area, kitchenette and bathroom, nestled among native flora and fauna in Takamatua Bay. With panoramic views of the harbour, a stroll to the beach and a 5 minute drive to the historic French township of Akaroa.
This bright, spacious accommodation is modern, but unassuming. Blending perfectly into the natural landscape, but with all the mod cons you could desire, your accommodation is downstairs… separate to the owners, with its own external access and patio. Whether you are a couple, a family or two couples the entire downstairs area – with two bedrooms, sunny living area and floor-to-ceiling windows is yours. Each morning you will awake to freshly brewed coffee and home baked bread with a deluxe continental breakfast. A cooked English breakfast is an optional extra.
Whether lounging on the sun-soaked deck with a coffee or glass of wine or watching the fantails duck and dart right in around you – relaxation at 38 Kingfisher is non-negotiable. If you like walking, options abound. At low tide, wander right around the shoreline to the mudflats… or out onto the jetty – where you might like to cast a fishing line. Or, for more of those spectacular views, head uphill on farm trails that until now have been a well-kept local secret. The fit and adventurous might like to head right down to Akaroa. Beware though, you may encounter strange creatures along the way. In Akaroa township, soak up the joie de vivre in this French-colonised settlement with its wide range of chic, waterfront bars and restaurants, boutique shops and adventure activities. Here… is your chance to swim with the dolphins!
  • 38 Kingfisher B and B in Takamatua is a great place to enjoy the Banks Peninsula, with Akaroa only 5-10 mins drive away. The view from the apartment is SPECTACULAR, per the photos. We found the apartment itself, very clean, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and we very much enjoyed getting to know Robyn and Garth. Recommend.

  • Home sweet home in Akaroa. The house have a great view and really comfortable. Robin's family are very helpful, they suggest the seafood restaurant which we like best through these days in NZ. Highly recommend this house .wish we will come back again.

  • Robin and Garth were lovely people. They provided us with a lot of local knowledge and recommended a lovely restaurant for dinner. The downstairs space was very comfortable for a family of 4.The beds were comfortable and the place was clean. There is no door that separates the upstairs from the downstairs room. The view was much better then the photos and Robin provided a nice continental breakfast.Thank you for a wonderful stay.

  • Robin and Garth gave us a warm welcome and the accommodation was spotless. Perfect for our first night in New Zealand. Lovely breakfast with lovely company and fantastic views across the lake. Had a nice walk down to the waterfront and a wander around Akaroa. Would definitely stay here again if we were travelling this way. Cannot thank you enough for your hospitality

  • Robin and Garth are incredibly sweet and smart, it was pleasure staying at their comfortable home! My husband and I were traveling through New Zealand for our honeymoon, and Robin helped make sure it was absolutely perfect! She had a bottle of wine, cheese and crackers waiting for us (as my husband had secretly requested) and got us a dinner reservation at a nice restaurant in town. Garth was even generous enough to offer us to drive us there! Thank you both for a wonderful experience at your beautiful home.

  • Really nice place, the view is even better than it is in the photos on Airbnb. A few minutes from the centre of Akaroa. We loved it!

  • This was the greatest little find ever! We loved every minute of our time at the cottage. It was a little hard to find, but once we got there it was more than we could have ever hoped for. Breathtaking views over the harbor, quick drive into town, quiet location, and Rosie had even left recommendations on where to eat and shop. I would love to stay here again. I highly recommend Garden's Cottage!

    Whitney2014-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very pleasant and enjoyable stay at this nicely laid-out and equipped cottage. The lovely gardens and beautiful views of the Akaroa harbor added to the visit. Rosie also was very responsive and gracious in trying to meet our needs.

    Brian and Sally2016-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Rosie's Cottage was fantastic. Just short (but steep) walk into small town of Akaroa. The view and open air feel of the cottage is exactly what we were looking for. Beautiful view of the bay/harbor. Stayed 4 nights, but wished we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend.

    Mark2017-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at the Gardener's Cottage. Everything necessary for a comfortable and pleasant stay was in place including an extremely comfortable bed, bedside lights - so annoying when they are NOT there - and everything you need is there in the kitchen and bathroom. But the view was above and beyond expectations. It is so nice to sit on the deck for breakfast or with a wine in the evening and watch the boats passing to and fro. There were two cruise ship visits during our stay and it was fun to see them anchored in the harbour and see the little boats ferry the visitors to and from Akaroa - feeling all the time that we definitely had the better deal! I would certainly recommend the Gardener's Cottage to anyone looking for quality accommodation in Akaroa.

  • We had a fabulous, relaxing long weekend at the Gardeners Cottage. It's as beautiful as the pictures suggest and provided a cosy retreat for a cold winters weekend. It's a short walk to shops, restaurants and pubs but is also adequately equipped to cook. I highly recommend a stay here.

    Nichola & Graham2015-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • Rosie was very welcoming and on hand to help us navigate the somewhat complex issues whenever steep slopes, shared driveways and beautiful views are involved. We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Gardener's Cottage. The views were superb to say the least and the cottage was comfortable and well equipped. The attic bedroom was perfect for our 15 year-old daughter. The only issue was whether to enjoy the delights of Akaroa and its vicinity or whether to relax and enjoy the view while reading a book. In the end, we did a bit of both and thoroughly enjoyed the two days. Thanks Rosie for sharing your beautiful cottage.

My place is close to Duvauchelle - about a 10 minute drive and then onto Akaora which is another 10-15 minutes. You’ll love my place because Wainui is a quiet village, on the waterfront with lots of great walks and biking. There is a tennis court available. It is great for kyaking and very safe for swimming. Duvauchelle has a golf course. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers.
Quiet village. House is on a hill overlooking the sea and there are fields are most sides of the house. Lots of sheep, cows and birds!
  • Nice secluded seaside village with restaurants a short drive away. Easily accessible boat ramp 2 min away with dolphins, seals, little blue penguins and great fishing 20 min motoring out. Hospitality top notch.

  • Carol and her husband are so nice and friendly. Their house is pleasant and everything makes you feel relaxed. Really enjoy staying there and definitely recommend this place in Akaroa!

    Carol2017-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • We use Airbnb quite often but we have to admit that staying at Carol's place was the best experience ever. Carol and Carl have a wonderful house sitting on a hill overlooking the ocean. This is the place to go to if you are after a relaxing stay. They put a lot of efforts to make us feel at home and we shared really good moments all together. I would recommend to visit them at least once if you travel in the South Island.

Tikao Bay Homestead is a 380sqm family home that was build in the 1870's. We took on the project to save this grand old lady one year ago, and it is coming along nicely! The house is big, well insulated and warm. We have put in a luxury wet room and new toilet for your convenience. Come and stay with us and experience a slice of paradise. We grow most of our own food, so enjoy a home grown breakfast, home made bread and a warm cuppa in the morning. Relax, enjoy the birdsong and view.....
We have a very large room with super king bed, and a good quality fold out sleeper couch if needed. Breakfast is served in your own lounge with dining table, couch and TV (for watching movies,) or on the verandah if you want. The lounge is a beautiful room, still in the original decor. Coffee and tea making facilities in the lounge as well as toaster. You have your own brand new bathroom, so unpack and relax. Our bedrooms are on the other side of the house, so you can have complete privacy if you wish.
We are 5km up the road from the popular French Farm with vinyards to enjoy, and right next door to an Alpaca farm for farm tours. A 5 of 6 minute walk down the hill gets you to the serene Tikao bay, or drive/cycle/walk 3.5km to Wainui beach where you can swim, kayak, dive, or get a fresh salmon straight from the boat. A 20 minute drive gets you to the other side of the harbour and the very popular tourist hotspot, Akaroa. It is a quaint French village with shops, restaurants and bars, dolphin cruises, kayaking and so on.
  • This farmhouse overlooking the Akaroa Harbour and Tikao Bay was simply wonderful--we enjoyed walking around our host's farm and talking about their plans for gardens, food production and future renovations. The sitting room was private and very comfortable and our room was HUGE! A trip down the road to the winery is highly recommended and have a dip at Tikao or Wainui. This place is serenity plus, and Adele cooks great eggs in the morning! A great stay.

  • We loved staying in Adele and Mike's beautiful, full of history home. With amazing views all the way down to the water, history in every nook of the house and welcoming and friendly hosts, we would definitely recommend this home for your stay near Akaroa!

  • Great location in one of Canterbury's oldest residential homes. Lovely rustic feel! Fantastic view across the water to Akaroa. Very peaceful area & only a short drive to the local pub & Akaroa town with lots of cafe & eateries. Short walk down to a very well kept secret in Tiako bay, which is sheltered & safe for swimming. Lovely hosts Adele & Mike made us feel very welcome in their home.

  • I am not sure where to start as our stay at Adele's house was absolutely fantastic. The location is secluded and quiet with a stunning view on the bay and mountains, the historic house is beautiful, and our hosts are lovely. This is a perfect place to stay far from the city and enjoy the beauty of the Banks Peninsula. Thanks Mike and Adele, we won't forget our stay here and we only regret we couldn't stay longer!

    François-Julien2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Leaving the city we were looking for a tranquil spot to unwind but we found so much more. The homestead with view of Akaroa and the ocean lies within Adele's beautiful garden and the small farm with sheep and chicken. We loved the house, the old charm and cosiness combined with perfectly matching brand new bathrooms and renovated bedrooms. But what made us feel at home the most was the family. The children are adorable and Adele was simply the best host. She and Mike showed us what is meant by Kiwi hospitality. After a warm welcome we were grateful to have been offered the possibility to have a delicious, homegrown and homemade meal. Having had a rich breakfast while enjoying the view for a last time we left this place with the regret that we had to move on and couldn't stay longer. Definitely would recommend this place!

My home is in Takamatua, about 5 k's from Akaroa township. It is beautiful and quiet, surrounded by sea and hills. I call it the Taka Retreat as it's such a tranquil and soul enriching place to be. You can walk down to the water for a swim, or you can even walk over the hills into Akaroa. It's nice to get back here after having a wander around the coffee shops and galleries along the Akaroa waterfront. Wherever you are from, I think you will feel relaxed, happy and welcome here in my home.
The house is brand spanking new, I've only been here 3 months. It is a home my son has built for me and I'm very proud of the fantastic job he has done. It is clad in cedar and laser cut corten steel, and some stone. I have been involved in every aspect of it's design, inside and out. I've thoroughly enjoyed the project.
Akaroa, just a 5 minute drive away, offers fabulous cafes and restaurants, bars, pubs, art galleries, gemstone shops, gift shops, swimming with dolphin tours, night kayaking under lights, sight seeing boat trips, beautiful hikes, and more, always more. Akaroa was settled by the French in 1840 and still retains mostly French Street names, and many very charming old houses, and beautiful gardens.

  • Wendy was a wonderful host and Monty was very friendly. The house is comfortable and clean with amazing views from the balcony and the spa pool. Very peaceful location with Akoroa a few minutes drive away for activities & food. Wendy provided a nice variety of spread for breakfast and even made us some amazing pancakes. :)

    Julie2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Best nights sleep we had in our stay in New Zealand. Wendy, Robbie&Monty make you feel like family. It truly was peace & tranquility with more hospitality than we expected. And don't forget the view is absolutely stunning! Couple minutes to Akoroa for activities & food.

  • Wendy and Robby are an absolutely lovely couple. Their house is warm, comfortable and clean. The view from the balcony and the spa pool is just stunning. The house is dogs friendly which was great for us. They also have a little dog, Monty, who's really friendly with dogs and also humans :) We had some good conversation with both Wendy and Robby, they immediately made us feel at home and gave us some tips on what to do in the area. Overall we couldn't have asked for a better weekend. Perfect for a relaxing weekend as a couple or with the family!

  • Roland and Karen are amazing people and excellent hosts. Our stay with them was one of the best during our two weeks in New Zealand and one of the most memorable experiences we had. They are very friendly and interesting people and we very much enjoyed talking to them. The breakfast was delicious and the cottage was beautiful. We loved the view from our room of the water and only wish our schedule would have allowed us to stay with them longer.

  • Beautiful B&B in awesome location! Very friendly hosts that will go out of their way to make you feel at home. We stayed upstairs, the beds and linen were beautiful and the view from the one bedroom over the bay down the hill was spectacular. It is very close to Akoroa, only 10 minutes by car. Karen and Roland made a beautiful breakfast and their garden is beautiful. A definite must! Stay here and nowhere else if you are coming to this area.

The breakfast was delicious and all amenities were well thought through. Twin Gullies and Karen & Roland really made our stay in Akaroa very memorable! We will absolutely stay there if we visit again and strongly recommend everyone to stay!

My place has great views, a safe, sandy beach and lovely country walks. Only 25 minutes drive to Akaroa. Local tennis courts available, only 100 metres away. Wainui is quiet and is a great mix of rural and coastal character. You’ll love my place because of the peaceful views, interrupted only by beautiful bell bird song. The deck is really the centre of the house - a place to relax and soak up the atmosphere or take a soak in the hot tub. My place is good for couples or solo adventurers.
This house (bach) is full of character! The lounge is a large sociable room but the deck is the area upon which many guests congregate - rain or shine. You are welcome to use the gas BBQ if you wish to self cater.
It is never busy in Wainui! Many of the nearby houses are holiday houses so it is particularly quiet mid week.

  • What a special spot, right in the middle of the beautiful town of Akaroa, a stone's throw from the water! The apartment was even more spacious than we imagined, spread out over three floors, each with its own terrace. The kitchen was very well equipped with cooking items, and Mandy even left us homemade muffins and BBQ sauce! Plus, she turned on the heater ahead of our arrival, making for a very cosy welcome. Everything is in walking distance -- the pier, the lighthouse, shops and restaurants -- but there's also a private parking spot available, and the accommodations are nice and quiet for sleeping (comfortable beds too). Mandy was a great host, very generous and responsive.

  • This is by far the best Airbnb we've ever stayed in!!! The apartment is absolutely wonderful - perfect for two people with amazing views over Akaroa. The finishings are obviously new and everything is extremely clean, modern and luxurious. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer but we would definitely stay again and recommend this to others! The apartment is around a 3 minutes stroll to everything so the location is ideal. It is stand alone property so is very peaceful and quiet with a fantastic balcony, modern fire and aircon to suit all temperatures. The apartment exceeded our expectations and included much more than advertised. The bed was particularly comfortable and the shower was fantastic. The property was very easy to find once we arrived and we found the instructions and access into the property stress free and easy to follow. Alison was very pleasant to deal and responded quickly. Overall, we really loved it!

    Natalie2016-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Hands down the best Airbnb experience I've had. Communication with Alison was excellent. She is very quick to respond and does so with professionalism and warmth. The apartment is absolutely AMAZING! Beautiful, clean, plush - I will go back to Akaroa just to stay there again. It has everything you could want for a short or long stay. Even AC for the one day heat wave Akaroa might experience! I'm sad I was only able to spend 2 days there. The location is perfect too, close to everything. You can either walk or drive down to the main part of town. This is definitely the best place to stay in Akaroa!

Not only is the views out or the floor to ceiling windows stunning, the room thoughtful and welcoming and the bathroom warm and spotless, but the generosity of the hosts is amazing. Liz and Brian absolutely spoilt my partner and I as we set down to do some work for the day - cups of tea, biscuits, heater on! • What a gem of a place. Beautiful location with amazing views of the water. The wood burning stove gave a wonderful cabin feeling and the grounds with all the gardens were peaceful and amazing.

  • Our one night stay at Mumfords was the perfect start to our holiday. Fran and Nicky even had the fire lit on our arrival, so all we need do was sit back, relax and enjoy the breathtaking view.

    Josie2015-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Nicky and Fran were absolutely wonderful hosts. From the moment I arrived they were both quick to make me feel at home and welcomed. From the basket of freshly picked eggs and produce to the gorgeous hand-picked flowers throughout the lovely cabin, I felt immediately at home. The views of the lake are nothing short of breathtaking, and the home itself leave nothing to be desired. The night I spent there was a peaceful retreat with all the accommodations one needs to still feel connected. I wish I could have stayed for more than one night in this lovely home.

    Joyce2015-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Nicky was wonderful and very welcoming. The photos did not do the place justice as batch was amazing. The inside was really romantic and a lovely place to spend some time away for the world.

  • Nicky's property is simply unforgettable. She greeted me upon arrival, and could not have been more hospitable for the duration of the stay. I would recommend this property to anyone - it is absolutely stunning! Thank you so much Nicky! I really hope to return one day.

  • Our stay at Mumfords was beyond our expectations and we loved every minute of our time there. Nicky and Fran are absolute treasures - welcoming us on arrival with warm towels and after a long journey they were so appreciated. The setting is spectacular with stunning views and a huge deck with loungers to sit back and take it all in. We also enjoyed the gardens which are beautiful and soothing, and attract varied bird life that seem so at home there. There is beach access through the garden and the whole property is private, yet welcoming and feels very much like your in a little world of your own. Thanks Fran for the amazing fresh eggs and Nicky for the salmon and mussels and other goodies, we felt very spoilt. We had everything we needed in the house and it's so comfortably furnished we felt relaxed from the moment we stepped in. We would love to stay again (for longer) when we are back in Akaroa and highly recommend to others looking for comfortable and peaceful surroundings with wonderful and caring hosts.

  • Cosy little place tucked away from the hustle and bustle outside. Great views of the mountains and Akaroa in general. Nicky was a great host and the facilities were wonderful as well.

Akaroavistas offers the most expansive, exceptional views of all that happens in Akaroa. From the comfort of your bed, or from the generous balcony, you will be able to relax. Watch the Bellbirds, Tui and Kerereu and listen to their morning chorus.
This is a generous studio with a kitchen area that provides jug, toaster, fridge/freezer and microwave and hot plates available. The exceptional and expansive views are there for you to savor - from inside, from the balcony, or from the garden at the top of the property, although - you will have to climb a few steps. The Sony TV is modern with full size picture ( 24").
The property is situated on a quiet cul de sac overlooking Akaroa Harbour, Hills and is surrounded by native bush on 3 sides. Expect to see the Kerereu, Bellbirds and our resident Tui.
  • Gorgeous views. We spent a lot of happy time relaxing on the porch with morning coffees or evening glasses of wine. Quick walk to a cute town - a great place to spend a few days. The flat was also plenty warm enough in late April, as the space heater provided is very powerful. The downsides are that the bathroom is small, the kitchen is only microwave + fridge, there's no dresser or closet for clothes, and no wifi (though that was kind of a perk, for us). But nothing was surprising - the space was clean and welcoming, and more than reasonably priced for how pleasant it is.

    Kelty2017-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great view from balcony. Even though there were neighbors above in main unit and could hear most of their steps above, we felt that we had plenty of privacy in unit. Short walk to town and both piers, as well as a short drive (15 minutes) to Hinewai Reserve. Appliances (TV/microwave) are older, but fully functional.

    justin2016-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Its a clean and tidy place with great views and a short walk to town. We fed some comments back that the blinds need fixing/replacing as they don't work too well and that it can get pretty chilly with only one heater. One of the window catches was broken which meant we couldn't close the window properly.

    Sarah 2017-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay here was very scenic and a close walk to the closer town part.

    Chloe2017-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and helpful people. The room is very spacious for two people, comfy and well furnished. The view of the town and the bay is absolutely wonderful ! We only stayed for a night, but if you want to stay longer, you can easily make your own meals in the studio.

    Thomas2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • The view is definitely the selling point for this place - and it was well worth it! I enjoyed the comfy lounge chairs on the deck, and moved inside once the night turned cold. The hosts were exceedingly easy to deal with - they even had the place ready early for me, and communication was always prompt. The apartment itself is furnished stylishly, if cheaply. (How else would it be this affordable?!) This included a bed that could stand to be replaced (it's getting saggy), and a not-too-clean kettle. It's indeed a 5 minute walk from the city limits, but as it's on the North end of town it took me 12-15 minutes to get back from restaurants near the information center.

    Laura2017-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place to stay to visit Akaroa. Yolande is friendly, and the place is clean, and bed comfortable. however, not suitable for cooking. I grilled some toast for breakfast and the alarm went on.

    Jessica2017-08-10T00:00:00Z

  • We loved our stay, the Bach was like going back in time, the location was perfect, lots of bird life & a short walk to the township. A very special spot if you need to really get away from the city.

  • Esther provided the perfect Airbnb experience. Her place is so well situated, relaxing and special. It is a real slice of heaven. Will definitely return.

  • An absolute gem of a property located in the centre of Akaroa, couldn't be any more central. The photos on the profile don't quite do it justice as they can't capture the atmosphere of the place. So cosy and warm and the upstairs gets a fantastic amount of sunlight too with great views of the harbour. We arrived later than planned but Esther was very accommodating and relaxed and had everything set up for us on arrival. We cooked in the house a few times and weren't left lacking for any appliances or cookware. The shower and bath were great too, especially the huge hot tub style bath tub. The only problem we had was that we couldn't stay longer!! If you have the opportunity of staying here, take it. You won't regret it.

    Maurice2016-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • What's not to love? Favorite airbnb! Fresh flowers , chocolate, coffee , tea, and milk waiting for us. Very comfy bed. Nice shower. Romantic and artistic feel to the place. Quiet at night . Coffee on the deck in the morning. We stayed for a week and walked everywhere. Beautiful home.

    Leslie2017-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very romantic little house, perfect for a couple. We enjoyed long soaks in the spa (candlelight, soft music playing on the sound-system, and a glass or two), dinner in front of the wood fire upstairs, sitting on the balcony with coffee in the mornings, and being able to stroll over to the movie theater, cafes, parks, and the water. We especially appreciate the lovely design of the place and that so many of the lights are on dimmers, perfect for that 'spa' feeling. We will be back again!

    Michael2016-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We fell in love with this little home away from home! It was cute, cozy and comfortable. Just perfect for the start of our New Zealand adventure! It was well situated for us to get out to the water with our paddle boards, and it had a nice private courtyard to store our related gear. Esther was very friendly and helpful and easy to communicate with throughout the entire process of booking and our stay. We'd love to have stayed longer, and hope to come back again some day! Thanks again Esther!

    Anita2017-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Small but perfectly formed. Great spot for a couple to unwind and experience the best of Akaroa.

    Rhys2017-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great time here! The house is super cute, like a little fairytale cottage. It has a massive jaccuzzi, big bathroom with shower and even music in the bathroom. The kitchen has everything you need to cook, although we went out for dinner every night to enjoy Akaroa's food. The fireplace makes it super cosy! A very relaxing experience.

    Ellen2016-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Esther's place. Very clean, well-equipped, and close to the centre of town. 5-stars!

  • I have to say my only regret is that we couldnt stay longer. Di was warm and generous and made us feel completely comfortable. It definitely felt like a home away from home. When looking on Airbnb I fell in love with Di's photos of the gardens and the little quaint rooms, but only seeing it for real can truly do it justice. We were so relaxed and Di was so open that it was just like staying at a close friends home. Everything was catered for and we were never left wanting for anything. We will definitely be staying here again and have highly recommended it to our friends and familys. Akaroa is a beautiful town in itself, but staying with Di was the icing on the cake!

  • Di is a friendly and welcoming host. Her home reflects her special artists touch. The room is clean and comfortable. Her garden and view are magnificent. She was a delight to chat with and helpful in planning my day. I'd highly recommend anyone visiting Akaora to stay here.

  • Our stay with Di was perfect, although all too short. This lady is a warm-hearted free spirit who seems to genuinely love having strangers visit her and her lovely daughter in their beautiful home.

    Jo2016-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Di's house is amazing and very beautiful. She is warmly and helpful, she helped us book the restaurant and led us the road when we got lost in the rainy night. We love the romantic atmosphere in her home and her lifestyle. She has a beautiful garden, it takes her a lot of time to remain it. Di is an artist, she draw paints and made them cards, they are beautiful. her home is very clean, and she offered us afternoon tea for free, the cake was very delicious.

  • Artistic Tranquil Retreat is a magical paradise in Akaroa. We had a wonderful stay right from the very beginning. Di set up afternoon tea for us on the veranda, and it was the perfect spot to soak in the solitude and beauty of the place. As we have been extremely busy having a quiet place to escape was perfect! Di was a gracious host setting out a beautiful breakfast each morning, and making sure we had enough of everything. The room is large and has everything you would need, tea/coffee, fresh lemon water, and plenty of space to stretch out. The place is very close to the town of Akaroa (5 minute drive) and very convenient to hiking trails, sites, and restaurants. Thank you Di for a wonderful stay, we hope to visit sometime again soon!

A cosy cottage tucked in the valley above Akaroa town and amongst a wild and wonderful garden. Warm and recently restored, it's a charming and comfortable character bach. Located in a sunny and secluded spot, but just a 5 - 10 min walk down to Rue Lavaud, the sea and everything Akaroa has to offer.
Rose Cottage is one of a number of original colonial houses dotted across Akaroa. Built at some stage in the 1870s, it has been extensively restored and now serves as a much loved bach for our family. The cottage is situated within well established gardens and provides a secluded spot to come home to after a day exploring Akaroa and surrounds. There are two cosy bedrooms (one upstairs, one down), single bathroom (shower only; no bath sorry) and open plan lounge, dining and kitchen. There is a fire and firewood that will keep you super toasty, if you need it, or otherwise there is an oil heater that can be used to heat the house quickly. The kitchen should have most things you need to cook something deluxe (if you need delicious produce, talk to Brendan, the local butcher).

  • We enjoyed our stay immensely and will be recommending the Rose Cottage to our friends. It was the perfect spot for our little family - easy to walk to everything, comfortably furnished, quiet, and warm. We plan to stay again someday.

  • Rose Cottage provides a wonderful and spacious place to stay while enjoying all that Akaroa has to offer. The cottage has everything you need to be comfortable, and to prepare your own meals if you want. Otherwise, a reasonably easy walk into town for meals, etc. A lovely, quiet and restful home away from home.

  • Lovely place, good for stay with family. Neil and rebecca is very good host and prepare everything perfectly

    Sunisa2017-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed the peaceful surrounds of our stay at Lavender Studio. Neil greeted us and showed us around the cottage, which made us feel welcome and at home. There was lovely scent of lavender in the cottage and the surrounding garden. The listing description was accurate and we had everything we needed during our stay.

  • We felt right at home with the Barnetts. Although we did not get to converse long with Rebecca as we scooted off on a penguin adventure shortly after arriving and got back after dark. We enjoy the conversations with Neal and the recommendations he provided. Wished we would have been there to see all the lavender bloom. Enjoyed the hillside scenery in the morning.

    Robert2015-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I and our one year old daughter stayed one night at Lavender Studio. Neil and Rebecca's cosy accommodation had everything we needed and more for a comfortable stay in such peaceful surrounds. We thank them especially for their friendly hospitality, fish smoking education and generously stocked kitchen. Our little one very much enjoyed the outdoor bath too! We wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommended!!

    Lisa2015-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Neil and Rebecca are wonderful hosts. We really appreciated the time they took to explain their smoked salmon business to us. By the way, this is by FAR the best smoked salmon we have ever had, please make sure to buy a few packs before you head home. The cottage itself is just adorable, with a stunning view and the added bonus of a bathtub on the deck. Nothing better than having a hot bath, overlooking the lavender fields. This was one of our best airbnb stays, please make sure to stay here if you can and don't forget to sample the salmon!

  • Such a lovely secluded paradise! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a relax corner to get away from all Christchurch fusses!

  • This cottage is amazing! It's lovely and very comfortable in a gorgeous location on a lavender farm. And the hosts were wonderful, doing everything they could to insure that we have a comfortable stay! I can't recommend it enough!
