Places to Stay in 1 Chome-1 Fuchu

Just booked in 1 Chome-1 Fuchu

Natsukashiya is close to Takefu Station, many shrines, and downtown Echizen City. You’ll love our place because of The authentic Japanese style and atmosphere. Natsukashiya is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families. We provide a unique opportunity to stay in a standard Japanese house from fifty years ago but we provide modern amenities and Wifi! Please keep in mind that the bedding is traditional Japanese futon on tatami flooring!
  • This place was unfortunately not for us; we booked two nights, but left after the first and booked a new hotel. Other travelers might have different experiences, but for us there were several red flags that we were not comfortable with: The host was EXTREMELY intrusive. I am no expert on Japanese culture, so perhaps I'm missing some custom or nuance, but from when we met him until he left us to relax was over three hours, during which time he spoke to us at length in the house, and took us to both a bar and a restaurant of his choosing. During this time, he asked lots of questions about our plans, and tried to get us to do various things that he wanted us to do. Again, not my native culture, but I found it extremely uncomfortable to be asked over and over again to abandon our plans. For context, we had gone there to visit Eihei-ji, the historical seat of Soto Zen, which is part of my religious heritage. The host asked at least four time if we didn't want to skip that to go to Karaoke bars. I was traveling with my wife and young daughters, and was certainly not going to take them to local bars. The host then began to pressure me to go alone with him into Fukui to see the nightlife; again, I had to say no as many as five or six times, at which point he started asking the exact same questions to my wife. I strongly suspect that he makes money off of bringing tourists to local businesses, because I can't think of any other explanation for his relentless behavior. The host was not menacing or rude, and he paid for our coffee and our dinner (though we would not have gone to either place had it been up to us), so I dislike maligning him here. Had I been younger and traveling alone, I might have enjoyed his suggestions and just rolled with it. However, traveling with my family, I found it very uncomfortable, especially since the house has no proper locks, is somewhat dilapidated, and is in a kinda run-down neighborhood. Having to talk with him for hours at the end of a long day was exhausting, and we were sufficiently creeped out by the experience and the state of the house that we booked a place in Nagoya even before going to sleep. If you are 20 and doing Japan on a shoestring, go for it. The house is rustic in a way that some might find charming, maybe even me in a different context. But this was my experience, and after 3 weeks in Japan (only staying one or two nights at each place), it's the only place that I haven't thought was excellent. Your mileage may vary...

  • Not a great experience. Had a problem with the check-in, because they lost the key. The house is old as advertised, but that wouldn't be a problem if it was cleaner and well mantained, which it wasn't. Small improvements would lead to a better experience. As it is, we weren't really confortable. If you have no other place to sleep and spend just one or two nights, I think it's ok, but I wouldn't do it again.

  • This place is ideal for people that would like to experience the countryside and with a special interest in handicrafts. The house itself is rather basic but has all the things you need. Tannan FM asked me why I wanted to do this trip and arranged for me to meet up with some people that helped me to enjoy my trip even more. Thanks for that!

  • friendly host, awesome house just like we imagined it to be, in a quiet neighbourhood just what we needed. thank you.

  • Landlady very nice and enthusiasm. Thank you very much let me have happy and safe travel.

  • The house is a traditional Japanese house on a quiet street. We understand that not many people appreciate traditional house. But we really enjoyed our stay here. The host was very helpful and very nice. We hope many people can come to this place and experience it. We stayed here in the summer; while surrounding cities like Kyoto was blazing hot, this place was breezy. At night we were so cold that we had to turn the air conditioning off. The people there were all very friendly and helpful too.

  • That was one of the most bizarre experiences we've had via airbnb. The host wanted to take advantage of us by inviting a journalist telling him false stories about our reason for coming only to promote his house offer. We kindly accepted thinking he was interested in telling our story (we came in business with Japanese market) - in reality he only wanted to promote himself and listing via local newspaper. We were lucky to come with an Japanese speaking friend who made us clear that we are just being used. When we revealed the true price we paid for the house (around 20k jpy for 2 nights - really above the value of what we received) the host wanted to manipulate the journalist telling him that we only paid 2500 jpy/night. I highly not recommend staying here, we chose this place as it was the only available in that area.

  • This home is very old and unfinished. If you are looking for an adventure, this is the place. The host was helpful and picked me up at the train station because it was raining. He recommended a restaurant for dinner also. Not a bad experience for one night.
