  • Ancienne maison typique Japonaise rénovée, bien équipée et tres propre au cœur de Hida-Furukawa, facile d'accès par le train venant de Takayama. Tres bon accueil.

  • The place was huge for me staying by myself, and especially being from NY, having all the extra rooms and wabi sabi garden was an awesome treat:D The house was charming and nicely decorated w modern furnishing and artwork and table from local artist. Everything was short walking distance and you can really take your time exploring this beautiful charming town. I had short stop at Takayama before arriving here but when I arrived at Hida Furukawa I felt this town was even more lovely and was glad I was staying here for two nights instead of a short day trip. Shingo picked me up by car at the station even though it's 2 min walk to the place, and took time to show quick overview of the surrounding area, he was a wonderful host and spoke perfect English so there was no problem at all w communication- very professional service with warm local welcome here. Thank you again and very much enjoyed staying here and would definitely recommend staying here!!!

  • Shinji-san is so nice and friendly. His house is very clean and nice and close to the JR station. He will be super helpful on your stay in Furukawa. No matter you are going there because of "Your name" or just plain visiting, he will give you a wonderful trip in Furukawa ever! The cafe and restaurant he recommended are fabulous! Definitely will stay at his place if I visit there again. Highly recommend!

  • Exceptional stay! 5-stars on all criteria. The place is perfectly located, close to the station and old pittoresque town. You have the best of modern and old Japanese style, a nicely equipped and charming place. I really liked chilling in the tatami rooms, looking at the garden. Breakfast is delivered every day at the place by a chef, that's a cool bonus. Last but not least, Shingo and his colleagues were extremely professional and friendly. He suggested me some activities and introduced me to a mountain guide, with whom I had a great volcano hike. I recommend you to ask for that :)

  • The house is new, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast is provided at a cafe around the corner. It is in a short walking distance to all the attractions in Hida Furugawa city. The city itself is also very nice. There is no parking space at the house but there is a free parking space at the city hall just a few blocks away. The host is very responsive and can communicate well in English. We truly enjoyed our stay here.

    Phaiboon2017-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place is fantastic!! I was introduced this place by the owner of another listing as the property we wanted to stay was available for only one night. IORI 0510 was still under construction when we decided to stay here so we were a little worried about the quality of the property. But it turned out to be the best stay!! The house has a really cool atmosphere with modern touch, providing all the comfortable facilities. It has some art products by local artists too. I would recommend this to those who are seeking not only just a Japanese style experience but also something inspirational!

Sukiyazukuri* house built by combining the superb craftsmanship Stay in the historical district of HidaFurukawa (next town to Takayama) . This house will definitely catch your eyes because the style is very different from Machiya townhouses. You can find the incredible timber work of the “Hida no Takumi (Master of carpentry in Hida) ” . You can see normal Japanese life harmonized with the traditional landscape and Satoyama.
In the historical town of HidaFurukawa, where you can find narrow streets aligned by Machiya townhouses with significant white walls and lattice, this sukiya-style house stands out from the others to add unique flavor to in the Jokamachi district (castle town). Dating back to Nara Period (700AD), the local woodworkers and carpenters developed their outstanding technique in the environment with abundant forest resources, and they served their craftsmanship in the ancient capitals. People called them “Hida no Takumi (Hida’s Master Builders)” with respect. Suehiro house is special one, "Suekiya style", influenced from Kyoto at old town of HidaFurukawa. Blending with the old townscape of Hidafurukawa where traditional townhouses stand, this sukiyazukuri house is outstandingly showing a presence. The wooden house built about 40 years ago might not be an historical folk house. However, the structure built by sheer persistence of "Hida no Takumi" is worth seeing. Japanese cypress, Cedar, Yakushima Cedar, Paulownia, Sakura, Black persimmon,Japanese chest nuts, Zelkova, Japanese Yew and more other timbers are used for right parts. Moreover, Japanese cypress bath in this house can make you spend the special bath time with cypress aroma. 【Rooms】 The house holds three Japanese-style tatami mat rooms, kitchen, and a bathroom on the first floor. And additional one Japanese-style tatami mat room and one free space on the second floor, and an inner courtyard. One of the room on the second floor is kept for our use as a storage. 【Futons (Japanese bed)】 Futons can be provided as needed. They are comfortable futon, hand-mede by local Futon master for your good sleep in this quite town. Layout of them is flexible. Please ask us. 【Facilities / Work environment】 You can find the essential plug-ins and conference system for your business usage (wife, work desk, projector and white board so on), and all the dishes, refrigerator, washing machine other daily supply are ready for your longer stay. 【Location/Park】 Nine minutes (0.7km) on foot from JR Hidafurukawa Station. You can park a car next to this house on road. Or free park in Hida-city hall (around 200m).
Satoyama (里山?) is a Japanese term applied to the border zone or area between mountain foothills and arable flat land. Literally, sato (里) means arable and livable land or home land, and yama (山) means hill or mountain. Satoyama have been developed through centuries of small scale agricultural and forestry use. On the ground that lifestyle in Hida Furukawa was influenced from Kyoto, this town is not only rich in nature(mountains, river, snow, animal etc) but also rich in culture (architecture, design, creation, food, festival etc). 【Within walking distance】 ・3Temples, Big Shine ( significant place for the locals), Seto river, Carpenter museum, Masturi (festival ) cultural museum, Rental cycling, Professional tour guide service (Satoyama Experience), Fabcafe, Hiking at Mt Anbou, Traditional candle creator, ATM, Tourism Center and so on. ・Local Deli, Super market, Morning market, Cafe, Restaurants &Izakaya, Japanese Snack bar,Drug store, 2 local sake Brewery, Local Miso maker, Post office and so on. ※Our recommendation (Check the map below)
  • First and foremost, the key thing that sets this place apart from the others is our host, Kohei. We were so impressed with him in several aspects. Most important was that he spoke fluent English, and trust me, once you stayed in upcountry Japan for a few days, meeting an English speaking host was truly a blessing. Secondly, he waited to meet us when we arrived and showed us his place (none of our other Japanese hosts had done this). He had good knowledge about his house architecture and history. Thirdly, he was so helpful. Once he learned that we wanted to dine at a specific restaurant in the area, he called and tried making reservations for us. Unfortunately, the restaurant (Hida Beef) was fully booked so Kohei gave us a map and circling other restaurants for us. He also called and checked if the restaurants accepted credit card because we ran out of cash that evening. Last, once we left, I asked him to help mail a postcard to our daughter who stayed in Italy because we did not know how to buy stamp, and he did (with his own money, eventhough not much just 70 yen but it's his generousness that counted). I know that we asked a bit much from our host but he did it with a kind face. Our family was grateful. Now, the house. This was a very elegant, beautiful old-Japanese styled house. We felt serenely peaceful staying there. Decorations were of high quality and of very good taste. Location was good since this was a small village so we could walk around easily. Locals were nice, unlike Tokyo folks. The only improvement, if at all, was the garden which was rather sparse.

  • The Suehiro House is a very beautiful residence, and Kohei is a wonderful, friendly, outstanding host. Unforgettable!

    Sistan2017-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome to stay in such a historic type place, typical of older Japanese homes. Would highly recommend staying here, very easy to access takayama and the Alpen route from here, plus hida itself is a very cute little town

    Natalie2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time at Hida_Furukawa at the Suheiro-house. We have been traveling with Airbnb for a couple of years and so far Kohei has been our best host. We felt as if we were visiting an old friend. He was very helpful. Our 8 months old son had fever and he even brought some medicine and dehydration drinks, had a high chair for him to eat, really a great host. Also the places he recommended for having lunch were great (Hida beef is a must there). We would definitely consider going back one day.

    Arturo2016-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Kohei was a perfect host and great person! And the house was enchanting! Even better than the pictures...You have to see it! Do yourself a favor and stay for at least a week - longer would be even better! Our time in Hida Furukawa was much too short. The house was very clean and has everything you need for cooking... Including a rice cooker for perfect rice. We cooked many of our meals. A great stainless steel deep tub - so relaxing! There is so much to see in the area and the town has a relaxed friendly atmosphere. People were welcoming and warm. Kohei provides a manual with recommendations, sights to see and a booklet about the town's history and culture. He is always quickly available for questions or help. Thank you Kohei! We hope to return in the future for a long stay!

    Patricia + Joel2015-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay in one of Kohei's properties. And it was even better than the first. Hida Furukawa is a beautiful place to visit. And Kohei's city property holds a perfect location, within easy walking distance to restaurants, groceries, the city library and town hall, and the river. The property is perfectly clean, well stocked with essential supplies, serene and beautiful. You will sleep on tatami mats - no western beds here. And the extensive welcome booklet even describes the materials used to construct this traditional Japanese home. Kohei is a great host. Responsive online and in person, flexible, friendly, professional. Do not hesitate to visit Hida Furukawa, and be sure to stay in one of Kohei's properties.

  • The house was build in Japanese traditional way of architect. It is amazingly beautiful. There is a garden in the middle of house and you can view and enjoy it from different angle. Each room has more than enough space including kitchen so it might be appropriate for family gathering, trip between few family or other occasion. The house was completely cleaned and futon was comfortable. The house is located in the center of Hida Furukawa so you can walk and enjoy old castle town. We visited sake brewery and bought this year's fresh Sake. At night We made Sukiyaki with Hida beef. After dinner, we took a cypress bath and enjoyed the scent. We would love to come back here evert year.

  • Mother's House was a traditional Japanese house in Furukawa, a beautiful mountain town 15 minutes from Takayama. The room is very clean and quite large, with sleeping on futon's. You also have use of a lounge room and kitchen should you want this. While Furukawa is a further 15 minutes from Takayama by train, it is worth the extra time and gives you access to this old Japanese town with mostly wooden buildings, small canals filled with carp, plenty of restaurants' and cafe's and a fair few temples.

  • Yuko was a great host. She helped us find places to eat and a nearby Takayama Festival. Yuko has a wonderful space. It's as described, clean, comfortable, and beautifully designed. It's also near restaurants and shops.

  • The stay at Yuko's was an excellent experience, it was the best stay in Japan. Her home was in the traditional japanese style. It was very beautiful. The place was very clean. Yuko was a great host. The town itself was very charming. There are great cafes and lovely temples. I recommend it. :-)

  • Great new, clean and lovely guest house. Yoku and her sister went out of their way to make sure that we had an amazing stay. Thank you so much. We were sad to leave.

    Tanja2017-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • Yuko's house was lovely. beautifully appointed and Yuko herself was so lovely and inviting. I wish my Japanese was better so I could take time to communicate with her more. The room we stayed in over looked the road but it wasn't noisy. Hida-furukawa is a tiny gem worth visiting if you have the time. Everything is a slower pace and people are so friendly!

    Mei2017-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • Yuko's guest house is a lovely place to stay in Hida. It is near the main part of town (Hide is very small) and close to the train station. It is clean and quiet. Charming and comfortable and Yuko is a very friendly and cheerful host.

The building itself is very special - a converted sake warehouse with different tatami rooms to sleep in. And finally, its association with the town, the local timber artisans and the full-on workshop (including fabrication tools) make this a memorable place. • Great people at Iori's! So helpfull and kind. It is in a very old refurnished building with a restaurant and an art gallery. There is even a little stream through the yard with big carps. The night we arrived they took us to a great onsen and the following day they drove us to a wonderful spot with waterfalls and in the afternoon Shingo walked with us arround Hida kokufu, a wonderful village. His friend Sushi is a great illustrator who showed us his work. We spent a great time there and looking forward to coming back

  • We had a great stay at Iori Guesthouse. We drove so the location was fine. The house is really nice, traditionally Japanese but renovated so nice and modern and clean. The staff were responsive, friendly & helpful. The staff cooked us a traditional meal with local food and we ate together. Really nice place! Would stay here again!

  • It's a very nice place for travelers. Highly recommend everyone who visit Hida to choose the house!

    之隆2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • The guesthouse is beautiful, clean, and very authentic. The kitchen and ameneties are everything you need to have a home away from home. There is also a guidebook of restaurants and activities in and around Takayama. The host was very communicative and ready to provide answers to our questions in a timely manner! While the house is a bit far from Takayama station (15 minutes or so on the rail), the comfortable stay more than makes up for it and I would stay there again. If you are getting in late, be sure to check out the rail/train schedule as it does not run as often as in the big cities. Overall, wonderful experience! And the electric blankets really keep you warm.

  • They were great hosts, very kind and hospitable. I loved that they tried to get to know us even though there was a language barrier. Their house was beautiful and I highly recommend going if you love the snow and forest scene! I hope to come back soon, such a great house with lovely people.

  • We stayed here for one night only. Actually, we took the last train to the nearest station and left his place quite early in the morning (to take the first train of the following day). He was always really welcome and willing to pick up any time we wish, that saved us a lot. The place is nice and clean, we chose to use the heater so it was not that really cold at this time of the year. Although we stayed only for a relatively short time, we got chance to speak with Hiroshi-san, his wife and other guests while sitting under a kotatsu. A great place overall!!

  • I, my 4 yrs old boy and my husband stayed at Hiroshi's home for 5days. He renovated a traditional farmer's house which is located on a hill surrounded rice firm. The house is just 2 minutes away from the nearest station, so they can pick you up very easily! My son fell in love with Rokka, a female dog of Hiroshi, and got a chance to take her to walk in the final morning. He and his partner, Midori is good at being a friend with small kids. I could see how many international tourists ever visited his home by marks on the map which was put on the wall of the house entrance. I was amazed with that!
