Holiday Rentals in United Kingdom

Just booked in Liss

An apartment set in one of Hampshire's most idyllic locations in the heart of Jane Austins county, (her house is only a few miles away), over looking the Hangers Way and close to Gilbert Whites House. The apartment is part of an old Oast house dating back may centuries and is my home. The house benefits from gated access and is away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I aim to make your stay a home away from home and a rememerable break. Great for walkers and those who wish to relax.
The accommodation boasts 2 large bedrooms (one with exposed beams), luxurious bathrooms, and large open living areas, one having a piano for those who like to dabble on the keys and an open fire. With far reaching views there are plenty of nooks to retire in with comfortable sofas and chairs.
What neighbours? Within my grounds there are a very small number of houses set apart that you will not notice. There is no light pollution so those who like to views the stars are in for a treat. There are a couple of pubs a few minutes drive away, but those who wish to walk please note there is no street lighting on route.
  • Fantastic ! Pete is brilliant fun, had such a wonderful time. Highly recommend.

  • A warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere in a really beautiful building. We definitely appreciated the remote location and beautiful countryside - and our dog enjoyed the company of peters dog on our walks! We all slept brilliantly in the comfy beds and really appreciated having the wood fire lit in the evening. We would definitely stay again if in the area.

    Jenny2017-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Oast House provided just the right environment to celebrate my daughter's twelfth birthday. Clean, spacious, fantastic aesthetic and with a great host! Peter provided a warm welcome to his home, a warmth from his character and his open fire - how lovely it was to come home to find kindling and firewood at the ready! Peter's home provides the perfect antidote to city/urban living. Set in beautiful countryside it's not too far from Petersfield, which allowed for easy purchase of food and provisions to take back. I agree with other reviews; the photos do not do The Oast House justice! Not only is the building pleasing to the eye, the internal spaces are large and easy on the soul; comforting in its furniture there's also opportunity to tinkle on the ivories (my daughter not I!). We would certainly go back for repeat visits to benefit not only from Peter's charm, but also of his home and the plethora of opportunities its surroundings have to offer. Sincere thanks Peter from all of us!

  • The house is stunning and the location fabulous.

    Deborah2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely marvelous house. Authenticity, very confortable, big bedrooms , large beds, modern bathroom. Peter had also filled the fridge with food and drinks. He has also prepared hot croissants in the morning, we felt very welcomed. The house is surrounded by fields, with horses, around the house you can meet beautiful peacocks. No noise. It has been one of the best Airbnb we booked. I hope we will be able to come back.

  • Peter was a fantastic host and we had a perfect stay in his beautiful converted barn. The accommodation is incredible - so spacious and light, and beautifully decorated. The pictures on Airbnb definitely do not do it justice! Peter was one of the best hosts we have ever had in our many years of Airbnb-ing. He was available to answer any questions prior to our stay and gave us a wonderful warm welcome on arrival. Peter provided us with fresh croissant for breakfast each morning, as well as milk, juice, jam, butter, fruit and wine - which was much appreciated after a long day exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside. The location of the Oast house is perfect, and there are many lovely walks close by. There are also lots of great pubs within a short drive from the house. We can't wait to stay with Peter again on our next visit to the area.

  • A truly amazing place to stay and a great host. Highly recommended for anyone looking for relaxing time in the county side

    Tracy-Jane2017-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • I can only reiterate what all the other reviews have said, to add its a gem and Peter is certainly a brilliant host.

  • Anne was a delightful host, providing everything we needed for a great weekend away. The flat was perfect - very clean and new, with the comfiest bed ever! The location was good too, close to the A3, yet tucked away, and close enough to walk to the local pub. We loved it!

    David2015-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay in the countryside. Fantastic to get a good and quiet nights sleep in this cosy cottage. Easy to get to from London and a 10 minute walk to the local pub!

  • Anne's place is immaculate and well provisioned. A really lovely base with a good pub nearby!

  • Friendly host in a nice quiet area - a perfect few days of escape from the city! Will definitely visit again soon

    David2017-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Anne's place and it was a perfect stopping point on our journey. A lovely flat in a secluded area, it has very everything you will need for a night away.

    Rachel2017-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • I have really enjoyed my eight weeks at the Orchard Studio. Anne is a great host, always there if you've got a question or need help with anything. She also offered to take me places since I only came with my bike. The whole family is really nice and welcoming. The apartment is great. Perfect size for one person, though two would be just as fine. Everything was very clean. Once a week I got clean bedding and towels, so I did not have to worry about that. The kitchen is, although quite small, really good equipped. For me the apartment was the perfect accomodation and I would definitely recommend it of you like nice, quiet places. I would love to visit again some time in the future.

  • 'Elly's day out' suggestions, wellies/waterproofs and general warmth/hospitality.

    Joel2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fun and friendly family. Elly and Tim welcomed us into their lovely home with advice on local cycle routes and country pubs and made us feel like part of the family. The separate room with bathroom off the side of the house gives you all the space you might want. Excellent breakfast and use of the games room! Had a brilliant weekend and would definitely return.

    anna2016-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts, warm family. They were very flexible with my late check-in, and breakfast could not be better. Elly is a vault full of interesting stories. I highly recommend it.

  • Very smart Barn conversion set in quiet but convenient location. Hosts were really friendly and very accommodating and helpful. Definitely recommend staying

    Sue2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we arrived I wished I could have stayed an extra night over the two we had booked. Before arriving I was worried we would not have the privacy and quiet I needed. But there was no cause for concern. This is a very exclusive and quiet set up. It was a lovely barn conversion with all the space a couple would need and a very well equipped kitchen for home cooking. (Eat out options within walking distance also possible.) We loved the sofa to kick back in after the long country walks/drives near by. A great place to explore the stunning scenery of the South Downs.

    Sharna2017-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely property in lovely countryside, just perfect for our weekend getaway. The barn is finished beautifully and had everything we could have needed. Thank you Paddy and Kim for being so welcoming and all the little extras provided in the barn. We will definitely be recommending your lovely place to others!

    Esther2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely space in which to relax with the advantage of rural seclusion and walks from the doorstep, but also a short step to the town and pub. Kim and Paddy were welcoming and helpful - thanks for a great stay!

    Anne2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Ironstone Barn, it is very quietly located and well equipped. The narrow spiral staircase took some getting used to, as you have to tackle it when visiting the loo from the bedroom. The converted barn is very tastefully furnished, we loved it and would definitely stay again when we're in the area the next time. There isn't a TV, but we didn't miss it, as we don't have one at home either. Kim & Paddy are very welcoming hosts, I can only recommend this lovely and peaceful place. Thanks again, Nadia

    Nadia2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely clean and spacious space to stay in for 5 nights, spiral staircase a bit of fun until you got used to it.

    John2017-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, remote enough for a peaceful stay but close enough to local amenities. Did a lot of walking and was nice to come home to such a comfy base. Great nights sleep and very welcoming hosts. Thank you.

    Hazel2017-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for a stay on the South Downs. Hosts were very helpful even giving us a lift to the pub when we were caught in the rain. The Spread Eagle pub and Blue Fig restaurant are well worth a visit and not far to walk to. Very enjoyable stay.

Enjoy our seventeenth century cottage and converted barn set in peaceful countryside with spectacular views. Recently refurbished to a high standard, we offer a full English breakfast sourced from the nearby farm shop. Popular local pub in village.
  • Jo is a brilliant host, and we loved staying at Mabbotts Farm, not least for the first-rate breakfast, in her beautifully restored barn. Great Airbnber, would stay again.

    al2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was fantastic - we had a whole wing of the house to ourselves. Jo was also very welcoming and cooked us a delicious breakfast with eggs from the farm.

    Yamez2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time staying at jo's place. The building and room were stunning. Jo very kindly had a lemon. Are for us on arrival and couldn't have been more helpful in recommending and booking places to eat for us. I would recommend a stay at Mabbotts to anyone.

  • I was looking for a romantic couple of days in nature away from the maddening crowd. I came across the thatched cottage, and it was all I wished for and more. we left recharged with great memories. thank you for all the little details, the cakes, generous breakfast covering both our veg/non veg choices, the lovely honey bubble bath and comfy bed. We went for some beautiful walks in dense woodland popping out to huge views, seeing deer and a barn owl. we took up the dinner recommendations of steak night in the hawkley pub which was really good, as was the veg choice which was a tagine …and the second night a tip top indian in liss. we were in a separate wing, which is the thatched cottage, so we were welcomed into the family space but at the same time had our own space. thanks for making a lovely break for us.

    Philip2015-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect Aitbnb. Good prompt communication and welcoming reveption. Attractive and very comfortable rooms - bedroom, bathroom and dining room in refurbished 400 year-old cottage. Lots of hot water and delicious cake, drinks and cooked breakfast. Quiet, beautiful country surroundings.

    Verity2016-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Every single detail has been thought through thoroughly by the hosts. The bed and toiletries are of the very high quality. The location and cottage is everything you could expect of the fine English countryside. The warm and welcoming family feeling made the stay even more enjoyable. If you are looking for a nice room/rooms in the area, you need not to look anything further than Jo's place.

    Li2015-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic find in idyllic Hampshire. The accommodation and breakfast was first class and we had a wonderful stay, we will definitely book again.

    Jan2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jo and Stuart were incredibly welcoming. A selection of teas, coffee and short bread were laid on at arrival, which went down a treat. Prior to our arrival, Jo had helped us by booking tables at the local curry house and pub for diner during our stay. They even lent us their wellies to go on country walks after we'd forgotten ours!! Each morning, the breakfast laid on was amazing, setting us perfectly for our walks.

  • This is the perfect place to stay, you need not look anywhere else. Julia is the perfect host and great company. Her food is delicious and the house is stunning. We look forward to our next visit.

    Steven2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Julia is a lovely lady, warm and welcoming right from the first contact emails. The cottage is charming tucked away up a quiet lane with a delightful secluded garden wisteria and azaleas in full bloom. It exudes the feel of a much loved home, in which Julia obviously takes great pride, everything is spotless. The room was spacious with lots of thoughtful touches, I spent two very comfy nights. The breakfast was simply delicious and plentiful, a proper cooked breakfast, cereals, toast etc all beautifully presented. I really enjoyed staying with Julia and would definitely go back and recommend it to friends, a gem of a B&B.

Just note that (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps leads you to the lane adjacent to the house - so be assured you're almost there - turn around, go back along Huntsbottom Road towards main road, turn left onto main (London) road and left into driveway of Overglen Court house - there is an Aged Care home on the other side. We are 20 min drive from Portsmouth and the historic ship yard or 30 min drive from Winchester with it's Cathedral and shopping, Guildford or Chichester and Goodwood. My place is good for couples, friends, solo adventurers, and business travellers.
Your room is on the ground flour with its own en suite shower, toilet and sink. There is plenty of space to hang your clothes and there is a dressing table for working at or doing your make up. The bathroom has a over mirror light with shaving socket both 110v and 240v. There is a radiator in the bedroom and towel rail in the bathroom both have there own controls for adjusting heat.

    Julie2017-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We are happy to recommend this excellent Airbnb which is clean, comfortable and well run by very friendly and welcoming hosts Lynette and Adrian. The house is tucked away off the main road so the room was quiet and we slept well. Though a car is not essential (the house is walkable from the railway station) it definitely makes everything much more easily accessible. But having said that, it's a pleasant walk downhill into the village of Liss where there is a good selection of shops etc. And a short walk uphill brings you to the Jolly Drover, a friendly pub with excellent food. Overall this is a lovely place to stay in a very picturesque part of the English countryside.

This is our large family home that has been split internally so you can have private use of the southern part of the house including own front door. There are extra beds not listed, so please ask us for details. Oakwoods, partly built in Medieval times, has been lovingly restored by my husband Monty (ref. TV's Grand Design's). We have a minstrels gallery, walk-on well, roaring fires, warm brickwork & low beams. The huge garden sits in the middle of fields & forests, magical walks and wildlife.
On your doorstep is beautiful countryside, with views from the windows and terrace over the fields and forests. Watch the deer quietly grazing, pheasants strutting, beautiful sunsets from the terrace - all of life! There are also many walks from the doorstep.
Just a 10 minute drive down the road is the historic village of Selborne, with its listed buildings & famous for its Gilbert White museum. Over 250 years ago Selborne and its surrounding landscape inspired Gilbert White’s life-long investigation of the natural world, culminating in his world-famous book The Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne(an un-identified prequel to Darwin's Theory of Evolution. His house tells Gilbert White’s story within the walls of his family home and his unique 18th century garden. A wonderful place for both young and more mature visitors with an excellent tea room! Throughout July and August they host events including Wild Art day, Bushcraft Day & Gilbert games day. In the local village of Chawton ( 15 min drive) is Jane Austen's House Museum, local pub and tearoom. It is also ideally suited for exploring the South Downs National Park, historic market town of Alton with its steam railway and is only 15 miles from Winchester, the ancient capital of Wessex.
  • It's just a great place to be. The farmhouse is restored with a lot of Love and there are lots of little things zu discover. A very good mix of old, new and interesting bits. We loved the Attick-Room which is reached through the chimney. Great place for a cup of tea. Claire and Monty are very good hosts and answered all our questions. They gave us some tips where to go and what to do in the neigbourhoud. The location was perfect for us. Lovely villages around to discover and London within a reach for a (long) daytrip.

  • Claire and Montys house is a fantastic place and we can recommend it to everyone that likes beautyful nature, antique furnitures and the best part of the British countryside. The village Selborne was enchanting with a nice pub, old beautyful houses and lovely nature. Try the zig-zag path!

  • Incredible house full of character and charm. We all really loved it. The host was really accommodating, friendly and very quick to respond to our questions. Would love to stay there again sometime.

  • We loved our time at Oakwoods. Its a unique house with some wonderful features that was the perfect place to relax with our friends and kids for the weekend. Monty and Claire were both super helpful and friendly. It was a perfect weekend.

  • The place is exactly as described, the hosts are super nice and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay at this quite unique place. Highly recommended!

  • Oakwoods Farmhouse is a historic gem of a house with a generous garden and orchard, all lovingly restored with ingenuity and creativity by the owners. We appreciated the beautiful exposed medieval beams of the farmhouse, combined with clever, space-saving mod cons, and a comfy night's sleep in pleasing rooms filled with family heirlooms and antique finds. Bedrooms and bathrooms (with tubs), are comfortable, tidy, and stylish. Home-cinema room and a daring tree-swing out back was a favorite with the kids. Selborne is a lovely little village, close by Jane Austen's House, the Gilbert White Museum, and nearby Winchester, Southhampton, and Portsmouth. Though isolated down a country lane, we could make a quick run to the Tesco 7min. away for provisions. We enjoyed our visit tremendously and would love to return.

  • We stayed at Monty’s and Claire’s home during a weekend getaway for an event in the area. The place itself is truly unique and pictures don’t do it justice. At 5 adults, we had more than enough space and sleeping quarters without ever feeling crowded. But what made our experience enjoyable was thanks to our lovely hosts who were hospitable, accommodating, communicative, and easygoing. I cannot thank them enough and would highly recommend anyone looking to stay in this area.

  • We spent a great week in Claire, Monty and Flynt's house. The house itself is very interesting and tidy, with a great history and offers a lot of space and great countryside views. We undertook quite a few longer walks in the vicinity, visited Jane Austen's house (15 min by car) and the place is in easy reach (about 1 hour by car) even of Salisbury and Stonehenge. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, the place is ideal for a quiet get away, with visits to the historic Selborne Common, the village shop and tea room (the sandwiches, panini and cakes were home-made and delicious) at about a two mile walk (or short drive) from the house. Last but not least, Claire, Monty and their son have really made us feel very welcome, given us a lot of space in their home and generous use of their kitchen, outdoor and living space and were very helpful in suggesting routes for walking or places to visit. It was also great meeting them and having a chat. Thank you very much for everything.

Our cosy annex has been lovingly decorated with my favourite furniture and accessories. Centred around a wood burning stove, the annex is an open studio space with living, dining and sleeping areas within. It has a shower room, and separate toilet. This is the perfect country getaway for a couple or family...we are completely secluded and surrounded by stunning countryside. Nearby market town Petersfield is just 7 minutes drive, and 'the Hangers' is just 10 minutes walk from our door.
Our place is very peaceful and quiet, accessed by a long gravel drive behind big wooden gates. The annex is accessed by a staircase as it is on the first floor of a barn style building.
We are very lucky to have some amazing local pubs within walking distance, like the Queens Head in Sheet, the Harrow and the Cricketers in Steep. Steep Marsh is a small village with just a handful of residents.

  • Amazing!! We stopped at Alexandra's place after having a couple of days at Legoland and it was the perfect place to wind down with the family. It was clean, well equipped, airy, modern and family friendly. There was also a nice little welcome gift which was a lovely little touch. Perfect! We would love to stop again, thank you so much for accommodating us.

  • We stayed at Poet's cottage in June 2017 and used it a base for our daughter's wedding nearby. Directions to find the cottge, tucked away in the beautiful countryside, were fine. It is set in the heart of rural England, and a more beautiful loction will be hard to find. The cottage itself is spacious, bright, airy and superbly appointed, with everything you could need. I especially liked the espresso coffee machine, complete with a plentiful supply of coffee pods. Bedrooms are spacious (especially the master with a HUGE bed!) with nice linens and luxurious bathrooms. In summary - 100% recommended. A beautiful place to stay

  • We had a wonderful stay at Poet's Cottage. When we arrived, the house had fresh flowers and was stocked with the essentials you would need. The house was comfortable, light and warm and the decor was spot on. There was a welcome book with plenty of information about the house and local area It was lovely being in the countryside and having Petersfield only an 8 minute drive away. Thank you for your hospitality

Tucked away in the heart of stunning Jane Austin countryside, Selborne village is on the edge of beautiful NT walks, meadows and forests. The accommodation is to a high standard and has a modern fully fitted kitchen with appliances, an open plan reception room with sofa bed, TV and WIFI, dedicated dining area and ample living space, bedroom with double bed and bathroom with shower.
The village is charming and the Hampshire countryside magical. A friendly pub is within walking distance as well as a village shop and coffee shop. Very easy to reach the south coast within driving distance. Great for walkers, those who want to relax within a friendly village, or ideal as a base to explore the south coast and surrounding attractions. The attractive village of Selborne is famous for its association with the 18th Century literary naturalist Gilbert White. His book 'The Natural History of Selborne' records his observations on local animals, birds and plant life, and has been continuously in print since 1789. White constructed the Zig-Zag path up the Selborne Hanger and from here there is a magnificent view of The Wakes (Gilbert White's House) and the village in its countryside setting. The Zig Zag is also the name of the Village beer festival! Gilbert White's House also contains the Oates Museum, with exhibits on the adventures of Captain Lawrence Oates . Walk across the Plestor (the village green) and through the churchyard and you come to the Lythes which run along the Oakhanger Stream valley. This is National Trust land, and open to all. We are very relaxed and friendly and here to make your stay great.

  • The cabin was absolutely perfect, comfortable, quiet, spacious yet cosy and had everything we needed during our stay. The surrounding area is beautiful too. Jenny was so lovely and welcoming from the moment we met her. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone.

  • I was staying here as I was running a course in the area and it was perfect for me. Lots of room and a very comfortable bed. The only down side was the lack of privacy. The windows look out on to the garden of the family home so anyone that is in the garden can see straight in. It wasn't a huge problem, I just drew the curtains :)

My place is about half an hour to Goodwood, Portsmouth, Winchester and Chichester. Midhurst (polo), and the lovely market town of Petersfield are all close by. You’ll love my place because of the beautiful outlook, garden and quiet country location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers. The bedroom is en-suite and there is sole use of large upstairs sitting room overlooking fields. Our house benefits from biomass heating ensuring plenty of hot water and is certified as being carbon neutral. Breakfast is either muesli, yogurt and fruit or scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toasted muffins. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements. Parking is in our private drive.
  • Sarah is a wonderful friendly host. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in her special home with lovely country views. Our ensuite room was clean, comfortable and spacious and had everything we needed. We enjoyed having our own lounge area to relax. Sarah provides a very good breakfast. We would certainly stay there again.

  • We had a fantastic weekend at Sarah's place and were made to feel like being in a friend's house. The room is wonderfully clean & comfortable, there is an adjoining lounge with views across the field and a very tasty breakfast served outside. There are easily accessible walks (and country pubs) in the area, all a manageable train ride from London. Sarah was very accommodating with lifts and advice. Would definitely recommend.

  • We felt very comfortable and welcome. Sarah cooked quiche for us and we had a delicious dinner with her and her husband. We talked much and shared many interesting details about our countries! Our room and bathroom were very clean. A beautiful garden and the cute and cuddly little Jack Russel Tiggy made our stay complete!

  • Sarah has created a very welcoming space for guests in her home, a perfect balance between the privacy of a hotel and the cosy feeling of staying with friends. Personal highlights included: meeting the chickens in the garden (and the breakfast they provided), playing with the dog and the eternally hot shower. Would definitely recommend!

    Alice2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • We cannot recommend this more highly. A beautiful and tastefully modernised house, full of character. Relaxed atmosphere, we were made to feel completely at home. Our room and en suite were very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We met the chickens in the morning who provided our delicious breakfast. Lovely rural view from our room. We have stayed at many B&B's and this is top of the list.
