About the area: We’re situated in the hilly terrain of “The Galena Territory,” only 8 miles from the historic town of Galena near the northwest corner of Illinois. Forget those visions of flat farmland. Ancient glaciers pushed out in this direction and left behind a scenic wonderland of rolling hills and the highest elevations in the state. Fall coloration is truly a sight to behold in this area. The town of Galena is renowned for a Main St. lined with shops filled with antiques, collectibles, artwork, wine studios, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, restaurants, bars and more. You can spend hours browsing and shopping. Another 20-minute drive will take you to across the mighty Mississippi to the vibrant river city of Dubuque, Iowa. If casino gaming and/or dog racing is your thing, this town has some of the best facilities of their kind in the Midwest. If that’s not your thing, Dubuque has a number of other attractions going for it, including a top-notch National River Museum. Jenny and I first experienced The Galena Territory as renters ourselves when we vacationed here with our two young daughters. That was was back in 1986, and we were so infatuated with the area's rural splendor and abundant recreational activities that one month later we returned to buy a townhouse, which at the time existed only as a floor plan. Construction got finished in July of 1987, and we have been enjoying our getaway home in the Galena Territory ever since. Our daughters have since grown up and we now have four impossibly charming grandchildren that love to visit The Galena Territory with us. This expanded family outgrew our single town home, so when our neighbors next door decided to sell their unit in 2011, we jumped at the chance to acquire additional living space.
  • This was a great place to stay for our family of six during our ski trip. The kitchen was incredibly well appointed and, while small, allowed us to do a great deal of kitchen. The house was very clean and had just about anything we could possibly need. Tucked into galena territory, we had a very quiet stay and enjoyed our time immensely. Thanks, Jim and Jenny, for allowing us to use your beautiful home.

  • There are many features we really like in this townhouse. The big open space, the fireplace, the high ceiling of the living room, a very nice kitchen with all the things you need, lots of windows with sunshine, a deck with nice view, and everything is very neat and clean. On top of all of these, there is a nice gym nearby with an indoor swimming poor, a game room, and some basic workout machines. This is by far our favorite stay of a vacation house, and we are looking forward to coming back again when the weather is warmer.

  • Very nice location, and the info they sent and had available really helped with navigation and exploring of Galena. Layout was nice and cozy without any issues.

    Adam2014-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jim and Jenny's adorable townhouse was absolutely perfect for our stay. It was the just the right size and the location for easy access to Galena and the surrounding area. We could not have been more comfortable or enjoyed our stay more. It was delightful in every way. We will begin renting our mountain cabin on Airbnb in a month or so and I took many notes during our stay on how to do an Airbnb stay just right.

    Dawn2017-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful accommodation in a great spot! Jim & Jenny provided fantastic suggestions for activities in the area and really helpful instructions for using all the amenities.

    Katie2016-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • The host was very user friendly. Everything was extremely easy and accommodated to our special inquiries. The area is beautiful and worth seeing. Definitely a great place for a vacation away from the city.

    Marianna2015-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Jim and Jenny were great owners and were amazingly prompt in their responses about their property. The house was perfect my three kids and me. Well appointed and comfortable. We loved the use of the owners club that was included in the rental. Couldn't have been a better rental experience!

    Paul2016-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Jim and Jenny really do a great job giving you information about the area. They provide a manual that has everything you need to know about the place so there is no confusion. Very clean. Great for a family or group for a weekend getaway.

Built in 1890, this Victorian charmer is 15 miles Southeast of historic Galena on the corner of Hwy 84 & Blackjack Rd. on the edge of Hanover, IL. A very short drive to Chestnut Mountain, Eagle Ridge Resort, Fergedaboudit Winery and Palisades State Park. Plenty of parking and living space fully furnished for all of your needs!
Old charm with modern updates. Our 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath home has retained much of its original character with the addition of many new amenities. Updated kitchen appliances, as well as Jacuzzi tub and washer & dryer in the spacious upstairs bath.
Hanover is a quiet town. There is a gas station, and a few bars and restaurants in town. Our home is 2 blocks from the Apple River in the edge if town. You can bring a canoe or kayak if you'd like, but be mindful of the dam just South of the bridge!
  • We met family from Iowa and this house was perfect. Loved staying in a Victorian home in a small town. Hosts very responsive and very helpful. If we make it back to Galena, we would stay again.

  • It was so wonderful we didn't want to come back home! Old world classic charm meets updated and spacious home. Everything was immaculate and ready when we walked through the door. Air conditioned on both floors with fast Wi-Fi you can use because cell service is not the best. Two wonderful porches to relax outside with lots of space inside as well. Walk to Charlie's up the street for delicious food. We will be back!

    Aaron2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • This delightful house was spacious and comfortable for our group of five. It was truly old world charm with modern conveniences, plus many thoughtful extra touches. We were disappointed that the jets in the whirlpool did not work, although Chad promptly replied that he would fix it, so future guests might want to check on that. Also, there was no hot water in the main floor bathroom. The horse farm on the road behind the house was a delight to visit, and we enjoyed beautiful walks into town over the Apple River.

    Marie2017-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Moriah and Chad were great hosts and the house was so worth the value. Everything was clean, accurate, and they even left info in the house for attractions in the area. We are hoping to stay here again!

    Mariles2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful experience. The house was very charming and in a lovely location not far from Galena. The beds were amazingly comfortable, the house was spacious and spotless. I'd definitely stay again.

    Stephanie2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Chad and Moriah's house for our weekend of family bonding! The house was spacious and comfortable. It had everything we needed to cook meals which was nice. Chad and Moriah messaged to ask if everything was going well during our stay which was nice. I'd say the only major drawback was the lack of wifi and the very inconsistent cell service. It made it hard to look up directions to places we wanted to go. Besides that, it was a perfectly enjoyable trip!

    Alison2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful experience! We stayed with three small children and loved the experience! Lots to do in the area (Galena and Dubuque, too!) for families! The beds were super comfortable and we loved having such a large, well stocked, kitchen to prepare and eat our meals in! It was relatively easy to "toddler proof" the house due to the many doors separating the rooms. We also enjoyed watching DVDs on the tv in the evening. The hosts were great communicators and even provided a pack n play, high chair, children's DVDs, and a few toys.

    Tina2017-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a charming and spacious house. It is old and quirky but nicely decorated, with many updates including the upstairs bathroom and kitchen. It is well decorated, and has a choice of seating areas both inside and on the porches. They have a grill on the back porch, and a kitchen that is spacious and well supplied with pots, dishes, and utensils. Chad and Moriah were great communicators and very gracious. The house is very close to Chestnut Mountain resort which has an alpine slide, a zipline, and mini golf. The kids had a blast there. It is a quick drive to Galena (which is beautiful), and river tours. The one drawback is that there is quite a lot of traffic noise since it is on a main road, but it didn't bother us too much and the house was great value for money!

  • This is my first experience with an Airbnb and it was fabulous! Cheryl was such an awesome host! We were there to celebrate my sisters bachelorette party and we had the whole house to ourselves. We enjoyed having our own kitchen, the space to get ready using 3 rooms and a large bathroom, and the Netflix and Hulu! I would recommend this location to anyone. Thank you Cheryl!

Cheryl was a great host, and her lemon poppy seed muffins and coffee were awesome! The place is huge, clean, private. Definitely coming back!

This home is great for visits to nearby Galena, Dubuque or surrounding areas. You will feel right at home here. *If you want to take a wine tour, there are local "trolley / taxi" services or regular tours that start in Galena. Our setting is very relaxing. You can open the windows to the house / bedrooms at night and hear the sound of the river. In the evening, the views of the stars in the night sky are incredible. (It's dark in the country!)
  • Raquel's house is located in a quiet area about 20 minutes south of Galena. It is a large, older home that has been thoughtfully renovated and has a lot of space for relaxing and dining. The town of Hanover is very small, and internet/phone service in the area is spotty, but that is what makes it a great retreat! Raquel was very responsive and helpful during the booking process.

    Emily2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great home on huge lot. Very quiet. Much bigger inside than described and really nice. It's an older home with lots of updates. Owners are fantastic with communications and responsiveness. Owners are new at this. We were first guests. They were very accommodating. Hanover is quiet little town with little going on. Easy 20 min drive to Galena.

Enjoy a beautiful private 2 bedroom, 2 bath house with a spacious well-equipped kitchen, patio, deck, jetted tub, walk-in shower and incredible views all within minutes of Galena and surrounding attractions.
This is the perfect house for a couple or small family that enjoys cooking and spending time together. Our large well-equipped kitchen is the perfect gathering space for family and friends. There's a beautiful private terraced patio steps from the kitchen. The living room boasts unbeatable views of the surrounding countryside from all six windows, which leads to a covered porch where you can enjoy refreshing drinks while you prepare a feast on the Weber gas grill. The large master bedroom has a private en suite bath with a large walk-in shower. The other bath off the hall has a jetted tub and laundry. There's an office space that would easily accommodate a Queen air mattress that can be provided upon request at no extra charge. (So if you're not fussy this house would comfortably sleep 6. Please let us know if you require an air mattress in advance at no extra charge.) The yard is beautifully landscaped and leads to a 5 acre field that you can hike and enjoy the views. You will have access to the entire upstairs of the house. The basement is used for storage for things we can't possibly find room for, and it's pretty rough besides. We very much want you to enjoy your stay and we will be available to help you if you have any problems. The main attraction of this house is the seclusion, but there are so many things to do close by it's difficult to list. There are 6 nearby golf courses, many restaurants, all of Galena, the Savanna Palisades, Chestnut Mt Resort and the mighty Mississippi River. There is no public transportation in the area. You will have plenty of private offstreet parking for 4 cars. This is truly a beautiful house with lots of rich wood paneling and many personal conveniences. We have two televisions with satellite, wireless internet, 2 DVD players (one Blu-Ray), plenty of fresh linens and towels, and lots of kitchen equipment. We do not have central air. We do, however, have window units that do the job nicely. There are steps, and it is not wheelchair accessible. You will want to grocery shop prior to your arrival unless you're planning on eating out for the duration of your stay. We have a large refrigerator and freezer that are completely at your disposal. Grocery stores are at least 20 minutes away.
I truly love the location of this house. A close walk to downtown Elizabeth, 20 minutes to Galena, close to 6 golf courses, Savanna Palisades, Chestnut Mountain Resort, and boating on the Mississippi River.
  • Jennifer is a wonderful host. The house was spotless, really cosy and we didnt have a single problem the whole weekend. I would highly recommend staying a the house on the hill.

  • Best vacation rental to date. Spacious yet cozy home with every amenity. Comfy furniture and beds and amazing views from every room. Jennifer was a joy to work with. Homemade coffee cake and farm fresh eggs for breakfast thanks to her generosity and baking skills. Location was perfect for shopping in Galena and hiking the trails in the MS Palisades State Park. Thank you so very much for making our short vacation one of our best ever!

  • My boyfriend and I recently stayed at this beautiful house on a hill with some friends of ours for trip away from the big city. This house was the PERFECT place to spend a weekend away. The interior was beautiful and spacious. It allowed for plenty of natural lighting as it had plenty of windows which boasted amazing views of the surrounding town. Jennifer was an amazing host! She did a great job answering all my silly questions prior to our trip and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. She even went out of her way to help us with our luggage. Jennifer is friendly and down to earth. She definitely contributed to our wonderful stay. We all hope to visit again!

    Elise2015-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Jennifer's place was wonderful. We were looking for a relaxing weekend, and this was perfect. Jennifer met us at the house to give us a tour and answer any questions. She gave us some great tips about the area. Despite our trip being fairly last minute, she had a homemade pound cake and a dozen fresh farm eggs waiting for us. The house itself is beautiful, and surprisingly quiet. The beds and bedding were lovely and extremely comfortable. We began and ended each day sipping drinks while sitting on the balcony overlooking the valley - I still miss this little routine we fell into!

    Matt2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • We have now stayed at Jennifer's twice and loved it just as much as the first time. The house is beautiful and clean, and complimented with antiques. Jennifer is a fantastic host who works hard to make everything perfect. We are planning to return!

    Jennifer2017-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had an absolutely amazing time here! This house is beautiful and in a great location. Jennifer was a perfect host, greeting us with a quick tour of the place, some ideas for things to do, a DELICIOUS cake and fresh eggs in the fridge! We really couldn't ask for more. There is plenty of space here and everything is extremely clean and comfortable, especially the living room. One night we stayed in and lit a fire and watched a movie. It was super relaxing. Everything in the house was really beautiful. Warm wood walls, beautiful doors, large comfortable rooms, a great kitchen with all the basics, a wood burning fireplace, jetted tub... it really has it all. One thing to keep in mind for any techie people, there is wifi but it's rather slow.. so don't plan on streaming Netflix reliably. Works fine for basic web browsing though. I also couldn't find any HDMI inputs on the TV, but there is a Blu-Ray player and Dish Network so that should come in handy. We found a Red Box in the Walmart near Galena and rented a couple movies from there. Worked great! The view from the house is really great. Truly beautiful views. It really is a house on a hill all by itself, it's very private and secluded, yet at the same time at the edge of Elizabeth so you're still right in town. It was about a 20 minute drive to Galena, where we spent most of our time each day. We can't recommend this place highly enough. No complaints!

    David2016-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer's place was a great place for our girls' weekend. We were close to Galena for their Annual Country Fair. Jennifer was very accessible and provided everything we needed. She even left a delicious cake for us. The house was beautiful and so was the scenery. It's too bad we didn't have nicer weather, however, we did enjoy sitting out on the covered porch and drinking a glass of wine on our first day there.

    Jackie2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer was wonderful. She met us at the house and showed us around. She even made a cinnamon cake, which was amazing!! The house was clean and beautiful. We had more than enough room in the house. The master bedroom was so comfy, I wished I could have stayed longer. I would definitely book this house again, maybe in the fall to be able to see the colors change on the trees. I would also recommend Jennifer's place to anyone looking for a spacious and warm welcoming feeling of home. We sat out on the back porch and ate dinner, after BBQ'ing. The view was so nice and overall just relaxing. Jennifer responded back to me immediately with any questions I had while staying at her home. Thank you again, Jennifer for the wonderful experience. Looking forward to visiting again.

One pond is also maintained to enjoy swimming in the summertime. If you prefer to sit back with a beverage and view nature from afar, our deck and big windows are perfect ways to do that too!

  • Wow! What a wonderful time my family had for our family reunion at Becca's place. There were 16 of us: 2 eight year olds, 3 teenagers, and 11 adults. We had plenty of room. My 8 year old grandsons as well as some of the adults loved fishing and swimming in the pond. One of the grandsons had never fished before and this was the highlight of the trip for him. My daughter and her boyfriend really enjoyed hiking on the property. They are not ones who like to sit still for too long. Some of us took enjoyable trips into Savanna and Galena. We never made it to the wineries. Maybe next time. At night we sat out on the deck and watched the stars and listened to the symphony of frogs. It was awesome. We never got around to lighting a campfire. We will save that for next time. Our beds were comfortable and plenty of linens were provided as well as beach towels. All in all we had a fantastic time! Thanks, Becca!

  • The home was perfect for our family gathering. We took advantage of the property for the short time we had. We enjoyed hanging out with family on the porch enjoying our time soaking in the scenic views. Spotted eagles and other interesting birds. Loved watching the sunrise and listening to all the wild life. The property is very private and great place for family and friend gatherings around the bonfire at night. The rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped and easy to work in. Enjoyed great meals with family. Would love to have more time to spend on the property. Great vacation spot, spacious and private for large group to unwind and chill.

  • This place has it all! Becca is easy to reach and does a great job being prepared for you. The land is awesome. We saw a lot of wild life and were able to take in the beautiful surroundings.

  • This was my first Airbnb experience and Becca was A great host. Everything was clean and in order. Ready for us to arrive. I've been to other lake houses before but this is the best lake house I have ever been to. Definitely recommend it and hoping to book it next year. It was very spacious and cozy. Feels like you're at home. The house looks better in person than in pictures. When I first walked in I was truly amazed. Better then my expectation. Perfect for any type of getaway. It's meant mostly for larger groups weather it's you're family or friends. It was very secluded and quiet the perfect place to unwind and relax. Lots of land to explore plus you have the whole pond to yourself it doesn't get any better than that.

  • This property is truly a nature lovers getaway. The moment we started to descend down the driveway leading to the house we all knew we were in for a treat. This getaway is nestled in-between two hills and offers charming scenic views of the valley below. We watched gray catbirds, red winged blackbirds and Northern cardinals. At night, the sky was a blanket of stars and spotting passing satellites became our new family sport. During the day, we enjoyed walking the well maintained paths around the lakes and property. The deck was beautiful and large enough for our party of eleven - perfect for dining outside (morning or evening). The house itself had plenty of room to accommodate our large family. The beds were comfortable, lots of linens and very clean bathrooms. The host was very nice, easy to contact, and suggested great places to dine in Galena and Dubuque. Becca's place exceeded all of our expectations and was the crown-jewel of our family getaway. We enjoyed our stay immensely and will keep this property in mind for future family outings.

  • What a wonderful house. There are so many places to relax and spend time together. Beautiful walking paths, great fishing, a stunning foggy valley each morning, funny frogs that were so fun to watch, everything so comfortable, social kitchen, very clean and pleasant, super-sweet host who went way out of our way to help us. And such a gorgeous drive to get there. Sure hated to leave.

  • Staff from Mont Rest were awesome, helpful, friendly. The air conditioning was essential and fantastic! Wish I had known that they provided chairs for campfire, shampoo, toilet paper a plenty, paper towels- would've had more room in car!

  • We just came back from our stay in the Mill Creek cabin and had a wonderful time. The cabin was actually too much room for my husband, our young son and our dog but it allowed us to spread out. The location was perfect for little restaurants and Bellevue Park and the green space along the Mississippi that ran the entire length of the town was great to walk along. We took full advantage of the porch, the grill and the fire pit. Being from Chicago this was a perfect quiet and relaxing trip. The only feedback I could give would be better curtains throughout the place. The sun rises early so we were up as well. I guess it helped make the most of our days there though!

Whether vacationing in the area, returning for family events or visiting friends, this darling brick home will meet your needs. This spacious family friendly home is located 2 blocks from historic downtown Bellevue on the banks of the mighty Mississippi river. Notably "The Mississippi Valley Traveler" has named Bellevue as having one of the "Best Mississippi Riverfronts".
Clancy's Cottage includes 3 bedrooms, a den with office work space, and a new sofa sleeper. There is free WiFi throughout. The spacious home has a fully furnished kitchen and there is seating for 8 in the dining room. The living room includes a brand new flat screen Smart TV and comfortable furnishings for family movie nights! The fenced in backyard outdoor living space includes a covered porch with patio, grill, and plenty of room for yard games.
Bellevue has an established community bike path. We offered to our guest 2 adult and 2 children’s bikes with helmets. The bikes/helmets will be in the garage. We will ask our guests to sign a release of liability before riding our bikes.
  • The house was very clean, well furnished and absorbed our larger group well (i.e., big kitchen table, significant comfortable seating both indoors and outdoors). The attention to details was also much appreciated (i.e. indoor & outdoor games, quality linens). The town of Bellevue is a nice place to visit if you are in the area and for its size, there are a decent number of restaurants and activities available.

  • Six members of my family stayed at Josie's and had a wonderful time. Bellevue is a delightful small town right on the Mississippi. There are 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths as well as sleeping areas in other parts of the house. It is well decorated, clean, and comfortable. We loved the back porch to sit on and relax in the evening. There is even a garage with a door opener. You won't be disappointed is you choose this place.

    Cheryl2017-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Josie is an excellent host. She had pretty much everything we needed. Communication was excellent. The place was great size and modern.

    Abed2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Every detail was thought through. Super clean and cute. Plenty of places to sleep comfortably. We had a girls weekend for 6 and nobody even had to share a bed!

    Becky2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great place with many extras including bikes for all ages, outdoor games, indoor games, wifi,tv, anything you could ask for and enough room for at least 8 if you include some little ones. Bellevue is right on the Mississippi River with a gorgeous walkway along the shore. Amazing the things to do in a small town.

Enjoy a view of the river and the snow covered bluffs from the front deck. Bellevue is beautiful year round. Each change of season is just a beautiful as the next. Our cozy little house is in walking distance to downtown restaurants and night life.
The two bedroom home has a full size bed in the front bedroom. There are two twin beds in the back bedroom that can be converted to a king size bed. Let us know what your preference is before check in. The living room has a leather flex-steel queen sofa sleeper. The kitchen is complete with dinner ware, pots and pans, coffee maker, toaster and most kitchen gadgets.
The house is in a residential neighborhood that adds to the charm of the house. Our neighbors are friendly and very accepting of the variety of "neighbors" they have with a guest house by them. The Mississippi River is such a draw! Sitting on one of the benches and watching the eagles, barges, canoes / kayaks and pleasure boats is so relaxing. A trip up to State Park hill is a "must do" when in town. The view from there is truly spectacular and makes for some great photos. Bellevue has recently become known for live music! Several nights a week you can listen ( or participate) in live music at Lock 12 Music on S Riverview Dr. On the weekends, Flatted 5th BBQ and Blues hosts live jazz and blues bands. They are also home to BBQ and Cajun style foods. River Ridge Brewery is within a reasonable walking distance of the house. The brewery is a true asset to the Bellevue business district. Also.... there is easy access to the county ATV / UTV trails from the house. (If you have questions about the ATV / UTV trails, we can probably answer them.)
  • Best place to stay in Bellevue. House was beautiful and clean would recommend this place to anyone A++++++ service

  • Great experience! The home was very comfortable, and a perfect fit for our family. We appreciated Lori's prompt and clear communication. Bellevue is a great place to go; nice little town off the beaten path, but close to great destinations. We definitely plan to return. Thanks!

    Leah2016-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lori is a lovely host. We had a great time staying at her place. The location is so calm and serene with a perfect view. Wine at the local stores is one of the best I had till date.

    Kinnera2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • My sister and I had a lovely stay at Lori's cute little home. The area was very quaint and we could walk to the downtown area. The views of the river, from the top of the town, were stunning! Lori was so inviting and the bottle of wine waiting for us was an added bonus that we enjoyed our first night after traveling several hours. My little min pin was welcomed and it was very nice to have such a lovely home to be able to stay and bring my pet. Lori was super friendly and informative about different "must-see" places in the area as well as in Dubuque and Galena, IL. After meeting Lori and spending some time with her, I felt like we were staying with a friend. I am looking forward to returning to Bellevue and staying at "View of Mississippi" again!

    Jennifer2015-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Lori's house for 2 nights as a stopover along our road trip. This is a wonderful place for our trip . The view of the river is our favorite. Just walk across the street to the river walk. Downtown is just walking distance where you can find shops and restaurants. The house is so comfortable that makes us feel like home. It is clean and very neat. It has everything we needed. Lori is a great host. I appreciate her quick responses. She came to greet us and welcome us. She also gave us many suggestions of things to do in town and around town. It was our first time in Bellevue and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. I would recommend staying in Lori's place if you are going to Bellevue, or just stopping over along your trip.

This house represents the best of conservation and preservation. It's an old Swedish Barn, converted to a premium home on 37 acres of woods and native prairie with an organic garden and views of the Mississippi River. It's quiet yet close to Galena. We welcome dogs, families and friends who are looking for a getaway or special occasion. The kitchen boasts a fully outfitted gourmet kitchen. Come to relax. Come to escape. Come to Rocky Hill Farms, Galena, IL.
BRING YOUR DOGS and let them run in the country on 37 acres! This is a house you both can enjoy! (Please note, that this has been a cat-friendly house previously, in case you or anyone in your group are sensitive or allergic to cats/hair.) I just started the Rocky Hill Farms (website hidden) page - check out photos! (website hidden) INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THIS HOUSE: This house was a Swedish Barn, from Barrington, IL, that was taken down and resurrected on this site, in 1987, the architect taking advantage of the Mississippi River and tri-state views from every window and vantage point. It has been and continues to be a conservation and preservation property. Every window in this house has a view of something special – a valley, a ridge, a tree, a prairie. The views are “million dollar”! The Mississippi River (and refuge) can be seen in all seasons, but the view in winter expands as the leaves fall. At night, the lights of Dubuque and the bridge can be seen year round. In summer, you’ll see the lights of the barges shining down the chute. Pilot Knob can be seen as can Sinsinawa WI. Tri state views! Lights of Galena at night as well. The topography of the property, affords views in all directions. An overhead shows where the 5 or so major ridges (fingers) protrude from the property. The view from the back deck is to the Northwest (largest part of the River bend). Chestnut Mountain resort is 3 miles away and the lights of Chestnut can be vaguely seen through the woods at night. This is a working conservation farm. As such, the owners, workers, or volunteers may be on the property attending to syrup, bees, garden, woods or landscape at anytime. Access will be limited to the garage, shed and exterior. We will do our best to allow you maximum privacy, and will not enter the house. We operate 'Rocky Hill Farms' with several business incomes: •Honey bees – there are 3 hives on the property, producing anywhere from 40-100 gallons of pure organic honey every year. The summer honey is beautifully fragrant, as the bees feast on the spring trees and the prairie flowers. •Maple Syrup – there are approximately 16 buckets to collect maple sap, from trees in the front yard as well as the silver maples in the back yard. Tapping the trees occurs in mid to late February and lasts 2-4 weeks, depending on temperatures. •Morels – seasonally in spring. •Blackraspberries – collection time is late June through July on the paths that surround the property, collecting several gallons of berries every year. •The Organic Garden – over the last 3 years, we have put in 6 raised beds filled with rich compost materials and dirt. No pesticides have ever been used. Garden production is extremely high in this rich soil. There are also 2 apple trees, 1 cherry tree, 1 plum tree, and 1 peach tree that were planted in 2011 – so are still young to produce, prolifically, but are growing. Organic vegetables and fruits are sold at local farmers markets and/or to local restaurants at great prices. •Prairie – the prairie was planted in the Fall of 2010 with over 67 species of flowers and grasses. No pesticides have been used in the maintenance, instead opting for prairie burn and cutting of weeds until prairie is established, typically 3 years. The prairie is prime for seeds, which will be packaged and sold as Rocky Hill Farms Illinois Native Prairie Wildflower Mix. Have used Cory Ritterbush of Prairieworks, Inc (Shullsburg, WI) to consult on the project. A species list is available with hyperlinks to the species. •The Tree Farm – approximately 32 acres are in a managed Tree Farm Plan with the IDNR State of Illinois. There are numerous white pines, oaks and black walnuts. The “woods” are also in the tree plan, and are being managed to limit invasive species and to promote the growth of the good hardwoods. •The “Woods” – we have had several naturalists come and walk the property and the property is home to several unique features including some sinkholes at the southern end of the prairie, numerous rock outcroppings at about 800’ elevation surrounding the property, with views of the Mississippi River from several, rare wildflowers including the endangered Canadian Violet, numerous ferns. There are two natural springs lower on the property. We have done some restoration to increase the view, cut invasive species and promote good tree growth. • I found the owner of this quaint and rustic home to be flexible, personable and who enjoys sharing and caring about others. Kathy was patient with my questions and during our stay here we texted her several times regarding needed information and she cheerfully answered quickly, making it seem like she was next door. Kathy is friendly and professional and it was obvious she wanted our stay to be restful, relaxing and fun. She provided an easy to reference notebook explaining things for the home which allowed us to function easily in her beautiful home. I hope to be able to bring my spouse to this luscious slice of heaven. Thank you for the wonderful memories, Kathy, myself and my six sisters will cherish the weekend.

  • The pictures really don't do this place justice - I read that in the reviews, and it's beyond true. The space is HUGE, the land is perfect for quite and a leg stretch, too. You really feel alone. Which is GREAT. Loved noticing all the little details that Kathy has kept from the original building as well. I'm inspired. :)

  • What a view! Great place to relax and unplug. Perfect for a large group. Great screened in porch and large deck if the weather is nice. We even spotted a deer in the yard in the morning among the cute birdies :)

  • We absolutely loved staying in this home. It is the perfect location for a trip to Galena. Just minutes from skiing and a delightful quick scenic drive to shopping and incredible restaurants. The property is incredible! It's the perfect place for privacy. We stayed in the winter and enjoyed beautiful hikes. Spring, summer, and Fall would be amazing to enjoy the gorgeous screened in porch and walks around the property. Kathy is an outstanding host. She has excellent communication and follow through. The home is gorgeous and comfortable with great beds and plenty of great spots to snuggle up by the fire. The kitchen is incredible! Those who enjoy cooking will be very very happy!! The home is perfect for a large family or a getaway for small groups. We felt very blessed to be given the opportunity to stay here.

  • Rocky Hill Farms was simply fabulous. We spent the weekend for my bachelorette party and couldn't have asked for a better place. It's about 20 min from Galena. But if you enjoy the cabin/rustic/outdoorsy place, this is perfect. Plenty of space for everyone and just a beautiful home! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a weekend getaway to relax and have a peaceful weekend.

  • Everything went really well! The studio was perfect for us. It was as described and really a pleasant place, wonderful staff and neighbors, etc. I would recommend Freddy and this place in Galena for two. Thanks!

    Michael2016-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. The resort staff is MUCH easier to work with than most... 24/7 human on hand. Very easy check in and check out. Great extras. Room is great, clean, maybe the best view in the state. Had to purchase wifi but host reimbursed, no problem. In short. ... at the price... go for it. At a higher price, go for it. One thing regular airbnb'ers might expect and not find... food. Many airbnb hosts provide some vitals. Here, the small kitchen is all set up (really.... EVERYTHING you need), but you are on your own for food.

    Ed2015-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Freddy's place was great. The room was very clean, cool, and spacious. The bed very comfortable. The whirpool tub was great for relaxing. It was about a 10 minute drive to Galena. The coffee in the reception area was bad- only complaint:)

    D2016-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • Easy check-in process, huge bathroom, great deck. Though it isn't large, we had no trouble preparing dinner in the kitchen, and everything was just right!

    Rhonda2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • The place was awesome! Had a nice fireplace and jacuzzi. The fireplace was shared between the bathroom and the living space and you could see through to the other side, but besides that it was an awesome visit!

    Morgan2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Freddie's studio room and it was way better than expected. The fold down bed was comfortable, the room was well stocked, spices, coffee maker, blender all the utensils you could think of. The jetted tub with fireplace was amazing. The atmosphere is more of that at a hotel than a typical air bnb as it is a huge 65 room time share. We were also surprised that the games in the game room were extra (take coins like at a bar) we will definitely be back as it is easy to find, so close to galena and such a great price. Only complaint was the overwhelming scent of orang cleaner. Thats Freddie.

    Anthony & Mindy2016-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first Airbnb experience and because this was so great, we will try it again and again. I asked lots of questions before and Freddy responded every time. Actually, I asked the same question twice because I forgot the answer, but he still answered politely. Loved the place. Loved the apartment. Just perfect.

    Mindy2016-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. I would recommend. Short 10 min. Drive from downtown galena. Stayed with my gf and she had a great time.

  • The place was beautiful! We had a deck out from the living room and the bedroom. The front desk sent up a bouquet a balloons, a card and a free DVD rental because the knew it was our Anniversary. The main lobby was just so cozy. Everybody was so friendly. Thank you Dexter!!

  • This is a great, quiet stay close to Galena. Spacious apartment in a nice complex, with double-sided fireplace, spacious balcony with access from bedroom & living room, and large bathroom with oversized jacuzzi. This is a great stay, and just far enough from Galena (13 minutes) to feel relaxing. Only downside is there's no restaurant or cafe onsite in the complex. But definitely our go-to for our Galena trips.

The City of Galena is located in the unglaciated area of Northwest Illinois. The rolling hills and lush valleys of this charming break destination, the glory history to fascinate the history enthusiast, 19th century architecture and opportunities for year round outdoor recreation attract nearly a million visitors a year. The six-block Main Street boasts striking examples of various architectural styles, ranging from French Colonial to Greek Revival, and a whopping 85% of the town is a national historic district. General Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th US President, lived here briefly before leaving to head the Union troops in the Civil War. Upon his triumphant return, the town presented him with an elegant mansion which, together with other restored historic homes, is open to the public.

    Andrew2016-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Rental property was great - it was a Wyndham timeshare resort with full amenities (indoor pool, fitness, game/rec room, lounge, outdoor basketball, outdoor grills, etc.). The common areas were very clean as were the rooms, and the resort staff was friendly. We were given a room facing the back woods/hills when we checked in - beautiful view. Note, however, you're not guaranteed a specific room with the rental, so you could also have ended up with a room facing the other direction, overlooking the parking lot. We had a couple minor issues (one burner on the stove was not working properly & the sliding door came off its tracks), but the maintenance staff came immediately when we called to fix. The property was a nice location if you are looking to spend some time in Galena - about a 10 minute drive to downtown. Tawnya was a good liaison. As this was a timeshare property, she was hands-off once we got to the property, which was fine since there was a full staff at the resort to help us. She was speedy and attentive with questions/getting back to me when booking the room and had I run into issues while at the property, I'm sure she would have helped me if asked.

  • We had a great time in Galena and the apartment was great! It is a bit smaller than the pictures represent, but was still a great studio space. The staff was extremely helpful and the amenities are excellent. Lots of things to do in the area.

  • What a great first experience using AirBnB!! Great location and everything was very nice. The staff were very friendly and informative. The only confusion I had was I thought it was a 1 bedroom with a Murphy bed but the Murphy bed was it. Having never used a Murphy bed I had some hesitation but after seeing it and sleeping on it we were very happy with it. Jetted tub and fireplace were definitely a plus!! We look forward to coming back! Thank you!

  • My stay at Galena Studio Resort was excellent. The room was completely clean, more spacious than I expected, and included a very nice jacuzzi for a relaxing night.

  • We were super happy to stay at Tawyna's. The condos had all the amenities needed (even single use spices!), a nice porch, a two sided fireplace that is next to a two person bathtub, and a great view. Could not have been happier!

  • The balcony had a beautiful view! The room was very spacious and nice! I especially loved to HUGE whirlpool tub with the two-sided fireplace.

    Tamara2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay. Check in was quick & friendly. First experience with a Murphy bed and it was plenty comfortable. The double sided fireplace was very romantic. We got back kind of late & were pleased we could still hang out in the gaming room & play air hockey! Really enjoyed it especially for the price, would totally stay again. Just wish it were a little closer to Galena bc the cabs were like $30 bucks, and my only real complaint was that the entire building had a weird smell.... like musty old smokers and something else lol. Also, Galena Wine Cellars is a very scenic 7 minute drive from this airbnb and you can do tours of the vineyards almost every day. =)

  • We had a wonderful time in Galena. The house was very comfortable! it had everything you would need. We had 4 adults and 4 kids. The location is beautiful with lots of forest around and not far from skiing and Galena. It would also be a very nice stay in summer! Thank you.

  • We came up for a girls weekend on Galena and everything in the house was amazing! Ginger was quick to respond with any questions we had which was very helpful. The house was beautiful and spacious and just overall a great experience. Thanks for everything, we loved our experience.

  • Four couples, three days - no disagreements due to a wonderful home base. Everyone had their own private space but also more than adequate public space. Beautiful home, scenic but quite rural location. It fit our needs very well.

    Debbie2017-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • Ginger was very friendly and informative on the phone. She gave some really good suggestions on local restaurants and grocery shopping ideas too. The description and photos of the house are very accurate. The area where the house is located is very quite and relaxing but still close to the town of Galena, which is convenient. We felt very safe while staying at this house. It was the perfect place to have a girl's weekend. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this house for a girl's weekend or 3 couples or a family as well.
