Heybridge Basin Holiday Rentals

Just booked in Heybridge Basin

If you’re looking for somewhere that offers a break from the bustle of a busy life, you’ll find Freshwater View is the perfect location. It is good for solo adventurers and business travellers.
A comfortable single room with a dresser/desk, free Wifi and a rotating IKEA unit with hooks and shelves for storage and a full length mirror. The bedroom overlooks the Blackwater Canal and the grass verge is home to a variety of birds; swans, ducks and moorhens go about their business just a few feet away from the front door. There are fields on the other side of the canal. As the road is a crescent, the traffic noise is minimal – although there is the occasional boat travelling along the canal. Towels are provided and tea, coffee and toast is available.
Freshwater View is ideal for walkers, joggers, cyclists and a haven for birdwatching and nature enthusiasts. A 15 minute walk along the bridleway will take you to the Heybridge Basin, enjoy the unspoilt surroundings and boats moored along the canal bank. The Heybridge Basin features the sea lock to the Blackwater Estuary and two decent pubs. Visit the very popular Lock Tea Rooms and indulge in homemade scones with Tiptree preserves, while looking across to Northey and Osea Islands in the distance. Or take the longer walk along the sea wall and enjoy views of Maldon Town and Hythe Quay. The Quay is home to the largest collection of East Coast Barges – regular trips are available including site and nature seeing trips. To the other side of the sea wall is the Heybridge Hall Lake which is a flooded gravel pit, a Local Wildlife Site due its importance as a roosting and bathing site for coastal birds. Continue along the sea wall footpath and visit the village of Goldhanger, then Tollesbury and then, for the serious walkers, Mersea Island.
  • The house is very clean and tidy, and Jas is the perfect host , I had a nice cup of tea as soon as I arrived we had a friendly and interesting chat, that continued the next morning. The house looks straight out on the river and is a quiet location at night. It is perfect position for a walk along the river to Heybridge basin, and just as convenient for eating out, loved it and would definitely love to stay again. Thanks so much Jas

  • Jas is an excellent and very helpful host. The room and house were exceptionally clean. Jas's communication was great and she would often reply instantly. Jas really cares about her guests and goes the extra mile to help them out during their stay.

  • Jas is a great host. The room was very clean and comfortable with a great view of canal from window. The surrounding area is interesting for walking. Joan

  • Once again Alisons place never disappoints. I have stayed there 3 times now and would highly recommend it. Well worth the money and great value. Very romantic location.

  • Amazing place, location and host. Definatly recommended!!!

    John2017-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Alison is a warm, kind and caring host, she communicates very quickly and welcomed me into her home. The barn house feels very private like your own little flat, and is very charming and has all the charm of the countryside. There are lots of country pubs nearby with tasty food including one opposite and Alison let me use the pool when I asked which was pleasant. The only issue is the wifi and signal are not the best, but it is in the countryside so is understandable and if anything makes the experience more relaxing. The bed is comfortable and I slept very well each night. I will visit again.

Our luxury guest room is equipped with a king sized bed, shower, toilet, clothes storage area, satellite TV, kettle, toaster, fresh milk, fridge, tea & coffee making facilities & more! The room is accessed through the side gate so you can come and go without the risk of disturbing us. Large garden which you are welcome to share. Off road parking with a 10 minute walk to Maldon town centre.
The room is large (7m x 4m or 23ft x 13ft). Because the room is detached, you have no-one staying next to you. You are set back from the road (it's in our back garden) and there's only a loft space above you so this gives you a private and quiet stay. We feel that the room has a modern, homely look. Well insulated and double glazed. West facing windows and door, so no direct sunlight in the mornings. Room has its own boiler with wireless thermostat- you set the temperature. There's a table with chairs in the room for you to enjoy your breakfast at or use a table and chairs in the garden.
Located in the Essex, the town of Maldon has a rich and varied history just waiting to be explored with its oldest part sitting high on a hill overlooking the Blackwater estuary. Maldon is famous for the Hythe Quay which is a 15 minute walk away. It is home to many of the remaining Thames barges. It is also well known for its Promenade Park, originally created on the sloping bank of the River Blackwater over one hundred years ago. Popular with visitors and residents alike, this park is the centre of summer fun with playgrounds and various childrens activity areas including the very popular splash park.
  • David & Lydia were the perfect hosts , you couldn't wish to meet a more welcoming and friendly couple , The Accommodation was perfect , very roomy , exceptionally clean throughout , kingsize bed ( very important when your really tall ) , great shower , lovely quiet area ,breakfast was fantastic , and again nothing was too much trouble for them . It was the perfect location as well for getting to colchester and southminster I will be booking them again when im down that way Thank you very much for a great stay

    SCOTT2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • David and Lydia are very friendly and welcoming - being flexible to accomodate our late arrival time. Their converted garage bedroom looks brand new, is to a high specification and is spotlessly clean! It was lovely and warm on the chilly mornings, having it's own boiler which you can control. It's also in a quiet, residential location. Being separate from the main house, you don't feel you are disturbing anyone when you come home late or worry about the TV volume. Perfect for us when we stayed 2 nights for a friends wedding, but would suit anyone staying longer too.

    Alice2015-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • David and Lydia's room is completely self contained, fresh and clean and a great and lovely place to stay and David and Lydia could not have been more helpful from booking to check out.

    Lydia2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • It was my first long- term Airbnb experience (almost a month) and they were so welcomed and they were so helpful at all times! If I ever need a place around Maldon again, I will definitely consider them first.

    John2017-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a qualty space at a very reasonable tariff. Excellent breakfast! Very peaceful and an easy 25 minutes to Burnham on Crouch.

    Lizz2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfy bed. A good night sleep in a quite area in the village. It has been a very nice place to stay.

    Ilaria2017-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • David & Lydia's annex space is lovely and I don't think the Airbnb photos do it justice. It's spacious, immaculately clean with a generous breakfast tray provided. We didn't have time to venture to the bottom of the garden which was a shame because we'd have seen their chickens - but the garden looked inviting and well maintained. They'd left us accurate information about local amenities and taxi numbers. If we have reason to stay in the area again we'd definitely stay with David and Lydia. A peaceful and pretty place.

    Liz 2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • David and Lydia were really great hosts and gave us some top tips for our weekend away, they were also happy to leave us to enjoy our time. Their place was like a luxury hotel room...except with a lovely garden just outside the door. Would definitely recommend!

  • Mark is very responsive and welcoming. Any question we had Mark came back to us and found a solution. The cottage is on a lovely yard in Maldon and it was very busy on the sunny day we arrived. Luckily it's closed on Sunday so we also saw its peaceful side. Cottage is comfortably furnished especially upstairs and we really enjoyed our one night stay. Mark and his family have done a great deal of work on the Brights Yard and its worth a visit.

    John2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely lovely accommodation, Mark was very helpful and we would definitely stay again!

  • An amazing place to start the new year! Thank you Carole and Patrick.

    Declan2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really lovely weekend despite the variable weather. The boat was warm cosy and welcoming and we had everything we needed. Carole was very helpful at all times and had provided us with lots of goodies in the fridge and even some Maldon salt! We loved the location and peace and quiet of Carole's lovely garden. We were in walking distance of the high street and we walked to Claybridge basin along the canal where there was a regatta taking place. Thanks Carole for a lovely weekend.

    eleanor2016-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here as we working in Maldon but it definitely felt more like a holiday! The houseboat itself is lovely, spacious and light, well equipped and in a gorgeous setting; lovely to lie on the bank between the houseboat and the river watching the wildlife and the ebb and flow of the tide - all with Thames Sailing Barge rigging visible in the distance. From the super welcome on arrival to just after leaving, when Carole phoned us to say we'd left something behind, Carole and Patrick were perfect hosts, really friendly with great local knowledge and close at hand to answer any questions. I definitely recommend staying here, I certainly want to go back for a proper holiday!

    Lara2016-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in Maldon and the houseboat was perfect for the quiet girly weekend we were looking for. It has everything we needed and felt lovely and homely. Carole made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived and was a great host, it was just a shame we had to cut our break slightly short. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Maldon

    Zoe 2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Carole's place, it's beautifully positioned by the estuary, a few minutes walk fro Maldon Hogj Street plus canal and coastal walks on the doorstep. We came by public transport & did not need a car. The land raft is really comfortable & is uplifting with great decor and very quiet. Carole's provisions very classy & made us feel very welcome. We would love to stay here again. Rosalie & Paul

  • Marks cottage is in a lovely narrow paved street off the High Street. It's charming from the outside as well as inside! The sitting room has a comfortable sofa-bed, a t.v. with all the stations you could wish for and a well equipped kitchen area. Essentials such as tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits are provided. Upstairs the bedroom is beautifully and stylishly decorated with chandeliers and good quality furniture. The ensuite shower room is well lit with a good shower and again essential toiletries provided. Outside there's a lovely cafe and it was great hearing the cheerful music and chatter during the day. For such a central location it was quiet enough to be peaceful at night though. The whole place was immaculate. Mark himself was cheerful, friendly and welcoming. All in all I thoroughly recommend this accommodation.

  • Really pleasant and recently renovated. Just off the High Street in a quiet little pedestrian lane. Fitted our requirements right down to the fresh milk in the fridge. Nice job Mark. I'm sure we'll see you again. Thanks.

  • This is in a great location - you are in the centre of Maldon yet in a secluded courtyard, so have privacy and relative quiet. The flat is well equipped with a good kitchen, a living area and a very comfortable bedroom. There is even a rain shower - perfect relaxation.

    Ellen2017-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This brand newly decorated conversion oozes character and sophistication. Mark has worked hard to deliver a plush apartment with high end furniture, fluffy towels and comfortable surroundings. I highly recommend for anyone staying within the area. The location itself is great, with nice shops and Mark gave us tips on where to eat etc. Parking is a couple of minutes away and not a problem, although I'm not sure how it would work for longer visits. Would add up a bit using the pay and display car park. Really enjoyed the apartment. Thank you.

    Catherine2017-02-12T00:00:00Z

  • Uau...really awesome weekend at Sue's Luxury Yurt. Me and my boyfriend were delighted to stay for the weekend (quite a romantic retreat this is♡) We felt so at ease and welcome as Bob showed us around, at arrival...we loved the tranquility of the place; inside and outside: walking around the lakes, or just relaxing in the bouncing bench. Inside the Yurt everything was lovely, well decorated and cosy...a magical place :) Looking forward to go back, and try the Hot Tub ;) I definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a relaxing stay away from the Buzzing City

  • Wow! We were first struck by how spacious the place was. We didn't leave the grounds for the 2 nights we were there and enjoyed it so much! The hot tub, BBQ, yurt and outdoor games were our favourites! Sue was a lovely host and Lofty was incredibly helpful during our stay. We will definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway!

  • Our girls weekend was fabulous . Bluebell Yurt is a little slice of heaven. We made full use of the hot tub, BBQ and all the lovely seating areas and loungers. The grounds and scenery are stunning and peaceful. We didn't leave the premises as we had no need to. Everything we needed was provided for us. We even had a lovely kitchen and luxurious bathroom separate from the yurt. The beds were comfortable and the Yurt cozy, warm and uniquely decorated. I would recommended this place highly. Sue even left us some lovely goodies. Thank you so much !

  • This is probably Essex's best kept secret. The location is idyllic and very tranquil and peaceful. We stayed on the 2nd of August 2017 until the 4th of August 2017. When I booked I told Sue that it was my wife's Birthday and also our wedding Anniversary. When we arrived we were met by Sue and shown around she explained how everything worked. Sue had decorated the yurt and kitchen area's with Happy Birthday banners and also Anniversary balloons and banners as well which was a nice touch. The Yurt was perfect the pictures on the Website does not do it justice you really need to see it for yourselves. The kitchen and Bathroom areas are clean tidy well maintained you don't need to bring anything as everything is provided for you. The Hot tub was fantastic with great views over the lakes. Sue was the perfect Hostess and if we wanted anything she happily obliged we can't thank her enough for a great mini break it was everything we were hoping for and more besides. We would highly recommend anyone to come and stay here We will defiantly be coming back Thank you Sue

  • What an amazing slice of paradise! Already working out when we can go back! Everything was perfect; from the yurt, to having a BBQ for breakfast to wondering round the lakes and feeling like we were on a private island, and of course making friends with the wild life! The sun shone the entire time and we couldn't have asked for more for our escape out of London!

    Imogen2017-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Bluebell yurt for a weekend birthday celebration and can't fault anything, it was amazing! Sue is a wonderful host and had even gone to the trouble of decorating the yurt with birthday decorations as a surprise. Everything about it is well thought out and the kitchen is well stocked with all the pans and things you could need. The hot tub is so nice to have and has a really wonderful view out over the lakes. The pictures really don't do it justice, we will definitely be back!

    Charmaine2017-05-21T00:00:00Z

We are close to some lovely walks along the Blackwater Navigation Canal and rivers. Maldon town centre is only a 15 min walk away. Our house is in a quiet neighbourhood but with shops, pubs and restaurants only a 5 min walk away. I have a good selection of things to do and see in the immediate walking area. There are 'ghost walks', boating trips, wine tours and tasting, real ale tastings in the Maldon area. The Tiptree Jam Company is only a 15 min drive away to see the manufacture of the world famous jams and a tea room to sample the jams with a cream tea. There is also the Maldon Sea Salt Company......individual tours yet to be agreed!
  • Sally and Robert very welcoming and they went out of their way to ensure that they provided us with a comfortable stay. They are very knowledgeable about the local area. Easy parking is a bonus. Their pet house rabbit, Charlie, is delightful.

  • A very nice and clean place with a great standard. We really enjoyed the room and our bathroom. It was very comfortably. We got a very friendly receiving from Sally and her husband. We arrived late in the evening and left the next morning, so it was just a short stay We can recommend this host to other guests.

  • We had a very pleasant stay at Sally's. The guest room has its own bathroom and both are spotless clean. It was easy communicating with Sally: she responsed within an hour to our messages. Breakfast was very well taken care of with all kinds of fresh fruit of the season.

  • Very helpful host who was on hand to welcome me. She made me feel at home even when I forgot the house rule of not wearing shoes upstairs. The breakfast Sally cooked was delicious even though I asked for it at the unholy hour of 6:30 am . I was allowed to sleep peacefully through the day without noise as I recuperated from my night shift. The facilities were first class and her husband(Ben?) was very friendly and helpful with information on cars as I let them know I was looking to buy another car. I wholeheartedly recommend their place and will surely stay there again if the opportunity arises. Thank you, Sally. I am most appreciative.

My home has amazing views from nearly every room, fabulous walks, cycling, sailing and bird watching. You’ll love it here because of the peace and tranquility and rustic rural life yet Maldon is only ten minutes away offering great restaurants and barge trips from the harbour. Two pubs within walking distance as is a local shop, fish and chip shop and Indian restaurant. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers who want to find a hidden gem.
A spacious light clean modern home right on the sea. The room is large with a garden view, it has a bedside table and lamp, large wardrobe with full length mirror and desk and chair. Tea and coffee making facilities, Wifi is available.
The Dengie peninsula is unique for its beautiful walks, Maldon to St Peters Church, Bradwell and especially the varied birdlife and ever changing landscape. Popular with cyclists with some racing during the summer months. There are two sailing clubs on the doorstep as can be seen from the photos. Also excellent for painting or drawing.
  • clean and friendly enjoyed my stay!

  • Val was very welcoming and provided everything I needed. The location was beautiful with great walks or cycles along the bank of the estuary. Very nice.

    Pauline2017-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Val lives in a house in a place called Maylandsea. The house itself is very beautiful and clean. It is opposite a sailing club/pub and was slightly noisy in the evening till late. Val owns a German Shepard which was very placid and sweet natured, very patient with our small dog. Breakfast was lovely (toast and cereal) and use of val's tassimo coffee machine was much appreciated. Maylandsea is a quiet village. It has two pubs. One is dog friendly (next to the sailing boats) and one is not but dogs are allowed in the garden. The garden in this pub is not that pleasant tho (basically AstroTurf facing a car park). Food in both pubs was average. There are very long walks near to val's house. These are along the sea wall. There are no shops or pubs etc along the way for miles either way so it's advisable to take a packed lunch. Val was very friendly and accommodating. Guests need to know that val isn't comfortable giving out a spare key so, at times, plans will need to be made around her schedule. We were grateful to find somewhere last minute that accommodated us with our dog and used the time to explore other area's abit more. Val's suggestions were great and her local knowledge is good. Thank you for having us.

  • Sue’s place is a delightful haven of tranquillity on the banks of the river. Immediately outside of the large windows was “our” garden visited by finches, tits, robins, ducks, Mr and Mrs Pheasant and Sammy Squirrel to mention just a few. Perfect for walks or cycling in the countryside yet less than 5 minutes by car to Maldon Main Street. Sue and Ron greeted us arrival and were friendly, perfect hosts throughout our visit. Our room was comfortably furnished, had a great bed and sleep-inducing log fire. This is the picture-perfect place to be if you are looking for a little rest and relaxation.

Built in 1929, Reminder offers an unusual and memorable venue for weekend stays, moored on Maldon's Hythe Quay. Ideally placed for exploring rural Essex with sea wall walks, a lovely High Street and riverside pubs.
Still active as a charter sailing vessel, Reminder is available as a "cottage" for weekend stays. She has a cosy saloon with central heating and a solid fuel stove and sleeps 14 guests in 6 cabins. Enjoy quiet early mornings on deck, crab with the children, and if you are cooking on board, the open plan salon makes for sociable entertaining.
Maldon is a beautiful and friendly town on the River Blackwater, with thousands of day trippers each choosing to walk along the Prom or visit one of the quayside pubs. Maldon is a lovely riverside town , with an interesting historic high street with lots of independent shops and places to eat. The quay is full of historic sailing barges . There is great walking in the area and fantastic bird watching .
  • Wow.. I have just stayed for 12 nights, everything is excellent, from the comfy bed to the power shower, the annex is self contained and everything you could ever want and wish for... It is immaculately spotless, much better than staying in a hotel, if ever I were to be working in the area again I wouldn't hesitate in booking again... It's a gem of a find and the hosts, Chris and Heather are amazing too, the homemade shortbread biscuits on arrival were a nice touch too...

    Ivan2015-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful time at Chris and Heather's (URL HIDDEN) was bright and really well designed, and the whole family made us feel really welcome (some delicious cookies - thanks, Faith!). It is a great base for seeing Maldon and exploring Essex beyond, and the main bed is really comfortable. We'd definitely stay again. Highly recommended. The kitchen is a particular highlight - great to use.

    Lytton2015-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • From start to finish we can't fault our experience. The annex is stunning - exactly as it appears on the site - and is just a short five minute stroll from the pretty town of Maldon. Heather gave us a very friendly welcome and continued to be helpful for the duration of our stay. The annex/flat is practically brand new with fixtures and fittings of a very high standard. It has everything you could possibly want and more - from tea, coffee, sugar, delicious biscuits, utensils galore, sheets, towels, magazines, wine glasses, matching dinner service - the lot. Heck, it even has automatic sky lights that close when it starts raining and a beautiful garden to look out on to. Our party comprised of myself, my mother and an unruly 16 month old who managed to smash a glass and cried - a LOT. But nothing seemed to phase Heather or Chris and nothing was too much trouble. We can't recommend this little oasis enough - such amazing value for money and ideally located for exploring Essex - why on earth would you ever stay in a Premier Inn again?

    Aimi2016-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Heather greeted us on arrival and showed us the property & facilities. There was tea, coffee, sugar & milk provided plus some biscuits which was very much appreciated. The annexe was light, airy, spacious kitchen and comfortable lounge/dining area all nice & clean with a lovely aspect overlooking the rear garden. The bathroom was nice & the shower was excellent & powerful, the water was always hot. Unfortunately the bedroom was the big let down especially 6.15am each morning when the occupant of the room above started to move about & banged doors, drawers & cupboards plus his/her footsteps resonated so loudly we could feel the room vibrate. We were on holiday yet unable to relax in the one place you should relax. It would have been the perfect place to stay, Heather & Chris need to sort out the noisy occupant in the room above the bedroom residing in their house. From a location perspective it was ideal and we visited many lovely places as well as catching up with relatives.

    Derek2016-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • My daughter and I spent two weeks at Chris and Heather's accommodation and were made to feel very welcome. The accommodation was excellent, clean, modern and spacious. Loved the shower. There is also space to park a car. It is walking distance to the town centre and central to visiting Chelmsford, Braintree and Colchester by car. Would highly recommend this accommodation.

    Catherine2016-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very affordable and spacious house. We loved every second of our stay here. Heather was very helpful.

  • Chris was very helpful in his communication with us and Heather gave us a warm welcome. They are clearly expert hosts and were so helpful and friendly. The flat is clean and comfortable with everything you could possibly need. Their lovely cat and adorable dog Coal were the icing on the cake. The shower is possibly the best we have ever used. Thank you so much Heather and Chris.
