to feel space, tranquility and nature...
Nestled in the middle of a large lush garden with sprawling trees and picturesque scenery, our villa is only a 15 minutes drive from Galle Town, the most well-known coastal city in Southern Sri Lanka. Deliberately designed to provide ample space and relaxed privacy for its guests, this is a newly- restored 18th century two-storied building which offers two large suites, each with a private swimming pool and a bath tub. The main house is surrounded by spacious verandahs opening out onto the terraced garden which gently slopes away from the house. Although hidden away, the ingenious planning of the original 18th century original owner (who's said to be a supplier of material to the Dutch Fortress construction) means that the position of building provides almost a lookout over the surrounding area. This suite -- Village Suite -- is a two roomed unit with a balcony overlooking the village. Surrounding jungle mountains are visible from the pool and faces west. The bedroom is air conditioned. Original old building was sympathetically restored in keeping with the history of this very old building, but with a modern emphasis on comfort, space and connection to nature. In a continuation of its heritage & is decorated with antique furniture from the Dutch period including large four poster beds. Time stands still as you enjoy the peaceful comfort and understated luxury of the rooms and the simple pleasures of being close to nature. Alternatively, Galle Town and the famous Dutch Fortress are easily close enough for exploring, shopping and dining. The popular and renowned Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa beach is only 20 minutes away. (Please note that given its large balconies, staircases, and open swimming pool on the first floor, we regret that it is not able to accept guests with small children for safety reasons.) The famous "The Lighthouse Hotel" -- a masterpiece by the world renown Architect, Geoffrey Bawa -- and the beautiful beach just 10 minutes away. Wifi Meals can be ordered or a cook can be hired by prior arrangement. Breakfast included in the rates
Galle Town and the famous Dutch Fortress are easily close enough for exploring, shopping and dining -- 15 minutes by tuk tuk. The popular and renowned Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa beach is only 20 minutes away.
  • Sumudu and Dinesh were such great hosts always wanting to help out and make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The Sunrise room located on the top floor of their family home was simply amazing. The spa, plunge pool, private balcony and super large interior space made us feel like royalty. The lush gardens added to sense of peacefulness and tranquility. We could have easily spent much more time here. The breakfasts they prepared for us were delicious. The location is a 10min tuk tuk ride from the Galle centre but perfect for those wanting to be away from the touristy areas. Still close enough to get anything you need if required. Dinesh arranged transport for us when we required it. Absolutely beautiful. Thanks Sumudu and Dinesh :)

  • Sumudu and Dinesh are the BEST hosts that you can imagine. They are well-educated, sophisticated, police and welcoming. Their house is one kind of masterpiece and truly a dream home. The interior is stylish and modern. At the same time, with the huge surrounding veranda, the house combines itself perfectly with the surrounding environment. We would love to go back to Sri Lanka just to visit them again.

  • We couldn't of asked for a better experience while staying here, the rooms are luxuary with an authentic Sri Lankan feel. Denish and Sumudu couldn't be more welcoming and accommodating; helping us with intinaries and transport. Breakfasts were fresh Sri Lankan traditional meals (our choice) each morning and filled with stories from Denish. We can't fault it in any way. We will keep in touch with such a wonderful family!

  • This awesome place was the best airbnb experience ever. Dinesh and Sumudu were fast and clear in Communication and very helpful in every case. The privat pool every apartment has is outstanding! Thank you one again sharing your little paradise with me!

  • Sumudu's house is a cute and charming treasure trove in beautiful green and rustic surrounding. The house is spacious with two rooms, one extended balcony/sitting area and private swimming pool. The most charming thing about this house are the owners, Dinesh and Sumdu who were super welcoming. Their hospitality and warmth made the stay very pleasurable. They served delicious breakfast and didn't accept the money for the Pizza we ordered for dinner. Beautiful house if you are looking to spend some idyllic or romantic time in the lap of nature :)

  • What a very special place. Sumudu and her family went out of their way to make us feel welcome, from before our stay, arranging our fantastic driver Deva, offering advice and top travel tips; and for our stay, from arrival to departure they went above and beyond our expectations with so many kind gestures. The home has been restored with so much care and you can tell it's personal. It's tasteful, comfortable and in gorgeous settings. We just wished we had longer to enjoy it. We can't thank Sumudu and Dinesh enough for making our stay so special!

  • The house was so peaceful and beautiful. And the breakfast was delicious

  • Located just a 10min drive from Galle Fort, this place a magical forest with monkeys swinging and birds chattering in the trees. Nestled among these is Dinesh and Sumudu's amazing place! Dinesh is the most helpful and sweet person you will find(amongst many others) and Sumudu's smart and witty personality is infectious. The place is one of luxury and comfort. It was the best place to stay in SriLanka for us. If your ever do visit Galle, stay here, atleast for 2 days. It's totally worth it.

Small bungalow in a serene location next to the Hikkaduwa lagoon. Property includes 1/2 acre of landscaped garden, 10m x 3m private swimming pool and jetty on the lagoon. Separate kitchen and caretaker's room. 5 min tuk tuk ride from Hikkaduwa town.
Quiet and unspoiled natural location. The lagoon banks are lined with mangroves, and the jetty provides a great view of the water. We have many visiting birds including kingfishers, parakeets, orioles, woodpeckers and waders. Also a couple of water monitors. Canoe available for exploring the lagoon. Fishing rods and basic tackle box. Crate full of board games. Small bookshelf with selection of titles.
We are situated at the edge of a quiet, friendly local community. There are several fishermen on the lagoon - if you like fresh fish, they will deliver straight to the jetty! Hikkaduwa town and the bustling beach strip are a short distance away.
  • Arriving at PJs in the dark was the start of our amazing adventure in Sri Lanka! Puppies were lying in the road and our driver was led by a local on a bicycle while our new neighbours waved at us as we passed by. Dinesh and Ginger the dog made us immediately feel very welcome and Dinesh was attentive and cooked fabulous breakfasts and one supper with locally caught prawns and tuna! He also took us to the local beach where we snorkelled with tropical fish and even large turtles. PJs place is even more beautiful and functional than the photos reveal and I highly recommend it.

  • As good as it looks in the pictures: the jungle shower, beautiful pool, lagoon to canoe on, comfortable beds, and a quiet location. Had a very happy stay here.

  • This place is truely amazing. We stayed here two nights but would have loved to stay longer. The location is perfect. Away from the busy area, you can see the river from the house and there is a beautiful garden with coconut trees. The rooms are clean and comfortable with AC. The outside shower is a great experience. Purajitha is very organized and responsive. We can truely recommend staying here.

  • We had a blast at PJ's! Very beautiful place with awesome pool and huge garden. We enjoyed a lot outside lounge. Very nice and clean room and lovely bathroom. Everything was clean and ready for our arrival. We made a little party there one night and its great place for events! The caretaker guy was very nice and helpful. Even he stays there (its separate place behind the bungalow) we had a privacy. Me and my husband would like to thank you for everything. We had really lovely stay and we can highly recommend to boo this place for your holiday. Even when your a couple and also as a family. This is the one of the best places to stay in Sri Lanka. Thank you for all!

  • PJs house is just amazing - everything you see on the pictures is exactly like mentioned. We loved staying there and we will certainly come back. Pj is the best host we ever had - and we travel a lot! He is absolutely reliable, answers immediately, is always there when needed, always finds a quick solution whenever something occurs ( we need a good internet connection, due to our work, and he made even this point possible, which is not so easy sometimes in Sri Lanka - but he even managed this!). Dinish is the best Chef you can get and we just loved his food - and ginger is just adorable - everything was said before and we absolutely do agree and just want to say thank you and good bye, we will see us again at the best spot you can be in Sri Lanka ❤️

    Christina2018-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • What we liked: Its lakeside with an own row boat to discover the laguna! The refreshing pool! Muthu's (the caretaker) perfect service with a more than delicious breakfast! His baby dog! The lounge area. The garden - full of fruits. And especially, the incredible outdoor showers: My first time I took a shower and felt like being unser a warerfall surrounded by nature!!!

    Stefan2016-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • A tranquil setting with lots of nature, beautiful decor and homely feeling. The caretaker was charming and made our stay most enjoyable!

For those who love the sea but like a quiet space to relax in away from the crowds. The self catering apartment is nestled in amongst cinnamon fields and jungle at the end of a residential road in Hikkaduwa. A short scooter ride or pleasant stroll to the beach.
One of three celf-catering properties on the same site. The apartment is equipped with.. Fitted kitchen- fridge freezer, gas hob and sink with all utensils, large breakfast bar with seating on terrace. Ac/fan bedroom with: desk and chair, large four-poster bed with mosquito net and wardrobe for clothes storage. Not over-looked which is great with our large windows! Bathroom with: Hot water bath/shower, sink and towel rail/towels. It is an amazing wildlife-spotting area and we have built a shady chill-out area in the garden with large barbeque so you can lie-back and watch the monkeys, birds and chipmunks. This is one of 3 apartments which are all slightly different- Bamboo, Jackfruit and Kittul. If you are travelling as a group there is a possibility of booking all three as a discounted block so please let us know if interested. We can arrange transfers, scooter hire or tuk tuks. Amila is a surf instructor and enjoys teaching our guests! Please note that these apartments are designed for 2 adults sharing rather than families. For that reason amongst others, we only consider taking children and infants in certain circumstances where we think it can work. Please consult with us before booking if you're travelling with a child, thank you.
Hikkaduwa is famous for its surf, nature and watersports. You can swim with turtles, learn to surf, wakeboard on the nearby lagoon and see an abundance of wildlife only a short distance from our doorstep. Seafood (and food generally) is fantastic here-very fresh and we can show you the fish and fruit markets to help you with any supplies you need. If you are here to fully relax and unwind you can try some authentic Ayuevedic treatments including massage and cleanses nearby.
  • The reality has occured much cooler than pictures! Apartment was so cool and comfortable and well designed and clean, we didn't want to leave it. We usually spend lots of time out of the apartment but this time we really enjoyed every minute spent at our jungle home. Amila is an amazing host - he has done everything to make our journey unforgettable (surf lessons, tips, transfer, he even went to the supermarket with us to show which spices are needed for the curry!), and - the coolest part - he is an AMAZING cook! The best seafood and carry and veggie we've tried in Hikkaduwa - all was prepared by him^_^ One of the rarest place and people we really want to see again!!! Thank you so much<3

  • Amila and Hannah are excellent hosts, who gave us incredibly helpful advice both before and during our stay. They arranged for us to be collected from the airport and also organised for us to go on both little tuk-tuk trips and also a longer tour around the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka, The apartment itself was very spacious, immaculately clean and in a beautiful tranquil location. We greatly enjoyed having the facilities of Hikkaduwa within walking distance, but far enough away so that we were undisturbed by noise. We also really enjoyed being able to sit in a private garden, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

    Fiona2017-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved the Banana Leaf Room we stayed in - absolutely perfect location for us as it was away from the noisy main road in the picturesque jungle behind Hikkaduwa. The road to town is quiet enough to walk to the beach, but also easy to find tuk tuks. The room was excellent; modern, clean and with everything you need for two people to stay comfortably. Thanks to Hannah and Amila too, who were great hosts and introduced us to the area and went above and beyond to show us a good time during our two week stay!

    Joe2018-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was absolutly perfect. The hosts helped us with our needs and gave us recommandations about Restaurants and day trips. A lovely place not far from the beach.

    Jochen2017-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place privacy provided anything could be organized talking to Amila and Hannah bit too far to walk to the main road all in all worth the money

    Martin2019-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay hosted by a cool couple who go the extra distance to make you comfortable and settle into this fantastic accommodation. Anyone wanting to stay in the Hikkadua area would be very lucky to get the chance to stay here.

  • We arrived Hikkaduwa exhausted but safe and sound. We spent 2 nights at Banana Leaf. All we can say is the first time we met our host, Hannah and Amila, we felt so welcomed and warm. They were so nice, kind, helpful and friendly. They made us feel like we were at our own home. The place was very clean, new and nice. We have our own kitchen, private bathroom, bedroom with air con, nice and clean towels, everything basically. We really feel like home and totally forget about time, just wanna stay there as long as we can. If you're looking for the cool place to stay in Hikkaduwa, this place is highly recommended. It's located near the beach and also all the convenient store. We really loved it there and will definitely come back again! And Amila is a great surf instructor! We took a course with him and it went so well, fun and great. We'll definitely do it again. They're very helpful too. Also, Chili the Dalmatian! He's our grateful. He's friendly too. Everything is just great and indescribably incredible here at Banana Leaf. We finally made good friends here in Hikkaduwa. Thank you so much Amila, Hannah and Chili. We miss Hikkaduwa already!

  • Banana leaf was the absolutely perfect ending to my time in Sri Lanka. The room and amenities were fantastic and Amila & Hannah were amongst the most hospitable, welcoming and lovely hosts I have met. They were very helpful with recommendations for the area and also encouraged social nights for people in the apartments to meet which was great - Amila’s cooking is amongst the best you’ll have in Sri Lanka! Banana leaf is a must :) just wish I could have stayed for longer!

  • Everything worked out really well during our stay of 8 nights at Villa Sapphire. The villa was exactly as described by Gizelle. Rooms were spacious, wifi and AC worked fine. The villa was cleaned and fresh towels were provided every two days. At our arrival we were greeted by the villa manager Lakshan who then provided a tour to the villa. Lakshan also handed us a mobile phone to call him if needed which worked out really well. Maybe the only downside was that the villa is located a few kilometres from Hikkaduwa beach so we needed to order tuktuk from Lakshan every time we wanted to leave the villa. He always arrived in 5-15 mins. Of course this means that the villa is extremely peaceful with no sounds of traffic etc. Our group of 5 people ended up paying close to the average of 12 EUR per day for the electricity. In conclusion, we would stay again at Villa Sapphire.

    Lauri2016-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stay - must be like being in Paradise. Beautiful house and surroundings. We felt like a King and a Queen with amazing cooking by the chief Chaminda. Superb with Kosala as the Tuk Tuk driver and Gizelle as the best host ever. We did not want to leave this amazing place and hope so much that we get a chance to come back. Dont hesitate - look at this review and all the others - if we could - we would give 10 stars!!

    Ann-Christin2018-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot speak more highly of our experience at Villa Sapphire. To start with, from the moment of booking Gizelle was incredibly responsive and helpful. No query was an issue and we really appreciated this and the support Gizelle gave us in preparing our stay. The villa itself is wonderful - I think better than the photos potray. Great ensuite bedrooms, large kitchen and living area and just perfect outside area (where we spent most of our time). The pool is fantastic and the garden beautiful and fantastically maintained. The villa is about a 5 minute tuk tuk drive from Hikkaduwa and for us this was perfect - we wanted the privacy of our own place, away from the hussle and bustle, but to be in easy reach of shops, restaurants, bars, beach etc when we wanted. Our group consisted of me, my husband and our three young children and both the villa and Hikkaduwa itself ticked all the boxes for all of our party. We could relax with a book on the outdoor sofas, whilst the children played in the pool and the garden, freely but under our watchful eye. The real cherry on the cake were Chaminda (chef and villa manager) and Kosola (tuk tuk driver - though really more of a personal tour guide). They made us feel so welcome and relaxed and made the stay even more fantastic. Chaminda is a great chef and we really appreciated the creativity he displayed in making meals that were fun for the children whilst also a bit more sophisticated for us. Chaminda was increadibly helpful, kind and we recommend booking him for delicious food and service. We generally asked Chaminda to cook for us every 2 or 3 days (there were always leftovers as the portions were pretty big, and this was perfect for heating up for a quick lunch the next day). Kosola is amazing - he was always at the villa 5-10 minutes after we called and was great in taking us around and about places to visit in the area, or even just to a local shop for anything we needed. One of my children's highlights of our whole stay was Kosola's tuk tuk and Kosola himself - they insist that if/when we come back to Sri Lanka, Kosloa must be our driver! It was great also to have the cleaner service every couple of days, another added bonus. I fully recommend Villa Sapphire, both for groups like ours with children and for groups of friends. We certainly plan to come back on a family get-away but would equally love to visit with close friends, who we know would also be blown away by the villa, the surroundings and by the fabulous service and cooking. Thank you so much Gizelle (and please pass on to Chaminda and Kosola too) - we had the most magical time that will never be forgotten.

    Tessa2016-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of the best Villa I ever stay on this site... Being with two young children, safety was important and all the services were available with vetted providers... Also the chef (Chaminda) flexibility for cooking meals adapted to the kids' tastes was also appreciated. The villa is very comfortable and everyone went out of their way to make our stay very pleasant. i would recommend it to any one who wish to visit that part of Sri-Lanka ...

    Gerald2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely villa and definitely matches up to the photos. It feels very private. Gizelle always answered enquiries quickly and thoroughly, though most of the information needed is in the 'house manual' she has written. Kosola and Chaminda are very helpful as on-site contacts and having a local phone provided means they are very easy to get hold of. The beds were firm and comfortable and each has a good quality mosquito net so we slept well. Chaminda's food is delicious, and he cooks loads so there's usually some left over for the next day. We got him to cook every other night. It's great coming home from a long day out and having everything (including the washing up) all done for you. Highly recommended!

    Bob2016-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent villa and a fantastic place to have a great base whilst exploring Galle and the surrounding area. Gizelle was extremely accommodating and went to a lot of trouble to help make sure our booking and stay went smoothly. The Villa is of a wonderful standard with all amenities and stunning gardens. Very secure too. Fantastic little extras like the contact for a local Tuk Tuk driver and the local mobile phone all made such a difference. Finally, I know that Giselle explains how Chaminda the private chef is available but seriously, make sure you use him! We kept our options open and had some meals with him and some meals out and every time we went out, we wished we'd stayed with his cooking and perfect attention to detail... definitely get his own variant of Hoppas for breakfast!!

  • After 2 weeks of our cycling trip in Sri Lanka we had much needed R&R in Villa Sapphire. It did not disappoint at all. What you see on you tube is what you get, in fact you tube does not do it justice as it does not capture the finer details. The decor is tasteful with an eclectic mix of furniture, arts and crafts. It is opulent and yet understated. We found our eyes always being drawn to individual piece of art/craft. It was so relaxing a beautiful home. Swimming in the pool, playing badminton, table tennis or just reading by the pool was just what the Doctor ordered following a tight cycle trip. Chaminda cooked a first class meal of surf and turf on the BBQ. Giant prawns and meat kababs. His attention to detail was exemplary. The table arrangement was amazing. We just sat back and chilled while he cooked the food. The food was delicious. Chaminda was the perfect host and entertaining company. We thoroughly spoilt. Our Tuk Tuk driver Kosolo was also the perfect gentleman. He was with us within 10 mins of a phone call with a cheery welcome. We could not fault the Villa staff or amenities at all. It was pure paradise. We would recommend highly to anyone. It was an experience we will never forget. Gizelle was always available to respond to our requests and did so in a timely fashion. She made the process of booking the Villa seamless and easy. We hope to return one day.

  • We stayed for 12 days in Sapphire Villa from end of March and absolutely loved the place. First of all Gizelle has an amazing team there: Kosala,tuk-tuk driver and Chaminda, villa manager and chef are genuinely nice people and did everything to make sure we are having a good time. Gizelle was also extremely helpful and answered all our numerous questions. You have complete privacy in the villa, Chaminda greets you, shows you everything and even gives you two local phones to use which was really helpful. Then he leave you to enjoy this place by yourself but he is always available on the phone if you need anything or to offer cleaning of the villa. He kindly did some shopping before we arrived of the items we asked for via Gizelle. There is a water cooler (we loved it) and I recommend you ask Chaminda to buy a couple of spare bottles for you. We had 2 kids (6 and 4 year old) in our group and we thought the space was amazing for them as they could run around, the villa garden is very big. Gizelle has a mango tree and we were lucky to be there when they are ripe. Because we had children and our grandmother with us we did not want to travel far for sightseeing. We went to Galle several times (30-40 min) both by tuk tuk and car and really liked the Dutch fort, it is full of nice shops and restaurants. In general you will need tuk-tuk to get to the town and to the beach, it is too hot to walk there and takes about 15-20 min.You can hire a scooter there if you want. It was important for us to swim in the sea so almost every day we went to the beach. The best place for swimming and especially with small kids is Coral Sanctuary (about 8 min ride by tuk-tuk). I do not think it is easy to walk there because of the heat. Only once there were big waves and we could not enter, the rest of time it was lovely and calm and shallow enough to be safe for kids, we loved it. The beach is not well equipped though, please note, if it is important for you: there are not sunbeds except a few rented by a local guy. But for us it was not a big deal, we would bring a sheet to sit on the sand. This place is amazing for snorkelling and you literally swim among the fish. We would come early morning, 7-8am and stay till 10am, before it gets very hot. The beach was never crowded when we were there. Chaminda is a great chef and I strongly recommend to ask him to cook traditional Sri Lankan curry for you at leas once. All in all it was a great experience and we definitely recommend Sapphire villa.

Very Spacious suite with a private plunge pool and modern comforts where time stands still as you enjoy the space nature and tranquillity in this very old Dutch colonial villa.
Nestled in the middle of a large lush garden with sprawling trees and picturesque scenery, our villa is only a 15 minutes drive from Galle Town, the most well-known coastal city in Southern Sri Lanka. Deliberately designed to provide ample space and relaxed privacy for its guests, it is a newly- restored 18th century two-storied building which offers two large suites, each with a private swimming pool and a jacuzzi/ bath tub. The suites are surrounded by spacious verandahs opening out onto the terraced garden which gently slopes away from the house. Although hidden away, the ingenious planning of the original 18th century original owner (who's said to be a supplier of material to the Dutch Fortress construction) means that the position of building provides almost a lookout over the surrounding area. This suite -- Sunrise Suite -- obviously facing east, on first floor, is surrounded by long wide balconies. It also has 6 large windows and 3 double doors giving a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, jungles and paddy fields. The two suites can be booked together or separately. Each suite is completely separated from the other to ensure privacy. Both suites have been sympathetically restored in keeping with the history of this very old building, but with a modern emphasis on comfort, space and connection to nature.
We are in a very quiet residential neighbourhood. As our home is at the end of a private street vehicular traffic is almost non existent.
  • We had the most fantastic couple of days staying with Dinesh and Sumudu. The suite is incredible and if anything the photos don't do it justice. The hosts were extremely friendly and kind in arranging transport, restaurant recommendations etc. We can't recommend this place enough!

    Allan2016-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was absolutely perfect. A beautiful hide away in the hills - we could watch monkeys from our veranda and there were hummingbirds! Sumudu and Dinesh were the perfect hosts. They went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The food they cooked for us was delicious! Also the bed was so comfortable. We look forward to returning!

  • Bohemian-Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke once said "things aren't all so tangible and sayable as people would usually have us believe; most experiences are unsayable, they happen in a space that no word has ever entered." So I find myself at a loss for words trying to describe this magical slice of paradise. And my experience there. This is a home. And a sanctuary. Is filled with love and poetry and warm nature scents. The experience will be as private as you want it to be. You can choose to get to know Sumudu and Dinesh - who are by far the loveliest hosts I've ever met - or you can hide in the comfortable suite - which is even more gorgeous than the pictures suggest. The home is tucked away in the forest. You'll see so many shades of green you'll go back home with a different palette. You will see monkeys. And chipmunks. And peacocks. And - if you're lucky - you might get to meet their gorgeous children and hear their eldest son play the piano every now and then. So I guess the best way to describe my stay is by saying that I left my heart there. And that I can't wait to go back.

  • Sumudu and Dinesh are the sweetest people we met in Sri Lanka. They go out of their way to ensure their guests are comfortable. They pretty much sort out everything for you. This place is a must stay to experience another side of the island. Where you can smell the fresh air every morning when you wake up.

  • Staid here for two nights and we could definitely have stayed for longer. The rooms is huge, bathroom is big, we had our own pool and two big balconies. On one balcony we had our breakfast looking at a wild peacock (bird) that hangs out in their backyard, at the other balcony we spent the afternoon watching the many monkeys jumping right in front of us between the trees. So this place is like being out in the nature but while sitting in a luxurious room/ balcony . All tho I can recommend to bring earplugs for the night since you will hear the animals quite loud while sleeping. The hostess are great and super helpful, I recommend to let them help with tuktuk and taxi service since it’s super smooth and faire prices. Thanks for our stay and as I hope you understand from the text above we were more then happy for our days spent here!

  • We stay at Sumudu & Dinesh place for a couple beginning of jan 2016. They stay was a very good experience. Sumudu & Dinesh are very good hosts and it is easy to feel welcome at their home. The suite as such was in very good condition, clean and spacious. The jacuzzi was of course nice, but the main part that stood out was our own personal outdoor pool, truly amazing. On a final note, if you stay at Sumudus & Dinesh place, dont forget to ask for the Sri Lankan breakfast, it is extraodinary.

    Erik2016-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Sumudu and Dinesh's space is truly delightful. The room exceeded all expectations, it was sparkling clean and filled with extremely useful details like shower racks, hot water kettle ( plus tea, coffee), and a nice table to sit outside and enjoy the sunrise in the morning over the lush, tree filled yard. They were warm, helpful, and extremely accommodating hosts helping us to arrange transportation and recommending delicious places to eat. The wifi was fast and reliable. I recommend this hands down for anyone interested in a restful, amenity filled retreat with close access Galle Fort but surrounded by a green, quiet oasis.

Our natural beach cabana with attached bathroom and ocean views is the perfect place for a relaxed beach holiday . The cabana has everything you need and is situated in a quiet area close to the tourist town Hikkaduwa. From here you can explore the area!
We have a cozy, wooden beachfront Cabana available for rent. The cabana is made from wood. It has an attached, modern bathroom with walk through closet. It is featured with a fan, mosquito net, mirror, mini fridge and sitting area. The water tank is on the roof and the tank gets hot during the day from the sun so the water is always warm unless it's raining! The cabana is right at the ocean, on top of the Thambili Cafe kitchen, peaceful and quiet, perfect to relax to the sound of the Ocean. Galle Road is behind and you are only 3km away from the tourist town Hikkaduwa. Our accommodation is unique due to its natural style, atmosphere and privacy. You are surrounded by nature, the birds and the ocean. You will love it! During the season from November until April we run a small beach café Thambili Cafe which you can see from the balcony. You can order yummy dishes but are not disturbed by the Café activities. Even so the cafe is closed during the off season you can get breakfast here if you wish for a small extra cost. Public and private transport is right outside the door on Galle Road. We also have our own air-conditioned Van and can arrange transfers, excursions and tours around the the beautiful Island of Sri Lanka for you. You can rent bicycles or a scooter from us to explore the surrounding area. The jungle stars just behind the railway line 100m inland and you can see lots of wildlife there.
Our cabana is situated in a quiet, safe neighbourhood with private houses and Boutique Hotels. In walking distance to the main tourist area with surf spots, bars, restaurants and shops.

  • I stayed at this perfect place at the beach with my 7 year old son . We felt really welcomed and totally safe. It was a beautiful spot and the cafe was a perfect place to chill . They had beach toys my son could use and all the staff played with him. It had a great chilled vibe to it and it was hard to leave! Ruwan and Linda and their staff team are really friendly and help arrange anything you need.Linda let Archie join in her yoga session which he loved. They also have the cutest sausage dog Thai . The room was perfect and clean and the bed was comfy the ocean could be heard from your bed :) breakfast in the cafe was also very yummy!

  • The place from Linda and Ruwan in Hikkaduwa was our first stop in Sri Lanka. It was the best joiz we could make. Beautiful Beach Cabana directly on the ocean front. The room was really cosy and we felt from the beginning very home. They also running a nice Cafe / Restaurant wich you can eat great lunch, breakfast and dinner. We also broth our two dogs wich was no problem with the friendly dogs from Linda and Ruwan. I could highly recommend this place and we will go again for sure when we will be back in Hikkaduwa. Thank you Linda & Ruwan for this wonderful time!

    Adriana2015-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • Linda and Ruwan!!! wonderful hosts!! Ruwan was busy with his big construction project but Linda was always there to help us out with itineraries or anything that we needed. A very friendly person who has been in SL for 4 years and knows what needs to be done and what not around Hikkaduwa. The location was spectacular! Around 300mts on either side of the cabana with empty shacks, so we basically had a private beach!! Very clean beach. Beautiful isolation is a term that comes to my mind when I think about this place!!

    Anand2015-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my husband went there expecting the place to be like it looked in the pictures, but we were disappointed. It was really dingy, dark and not so clean. Also the pictures make it look much bigger than it really is. It is right on the beach but the neighbourhood didn't seem habitable or even safe for that matter. We finally decided to not stay there and left to look for another place. It ended up wasting a couple of hours of our time and we didn't even get any refund from airbnb. After seeing a few more places we realised how over priced this cabana was. Maybe it is a good place, but not to our taste. Ruwan was helpful though and helped us look for other places to stay.

    Chitralekha2015-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • We really recommend Ruwans place! The bungalow is very nicely furnished, the ocean view from the bed is lovely and the breakfast was delicious! The hosts Ruwan and Linda as well as their "crew" were very kind and helpful. Try out the private BBQ directly on the beach, which they organise for you, if you like - that was a great!

    Mila2014-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • It was a relaxing stay at the cabana, the transfer from the airport colombo was arranged by ruwan&linda. They picked us up in the middle of the night (02:00) and it was not a problem. The food is very good and i recommend to try the special bbq at the beach!

Wigi's villa is our family home has been rebuilt as a gorgeous beach front home to inspire and rejuvenate. This Bawa-inspired redesign, features thoughtfully designed, beautiful rooms and wonderful shared open spaces. The villa is finished to a high standard throughout and staffed by our friendly, welcoming team. The beach garden is a magical place from which to enjoy the sun and sea, with sea views and stunning snorkelling and safe swimming on the doorstep.
An oasis of peace and tranquility in the lively and much loved beach resort of Hikkaduwa. This is an ideal location for families or a group of friends in search of a location for a special trip. Step from our garden on to the beach, access to snorkeling, surfing and more. Five luxury AC bedrooms – two upstairs overlooking the sea and three on the ground floor - all with mosquito nets for those who wish to use them. All have king size double beds (one has twin beds) and spacious ensuite bathrooms with walk in monsoon style showers. For larger groups we can consider providing a few extra mattresses / camp beds for children. There are two stunning open areas – one opening onto the garden – which is wonderful spot for slackline-ing or sunset viewing. The garden is finished with a gorgeous pool – with an area for kids. The location of the Villa means that you can walk to all the restaurants and bars in Hikkaduwa / Narigama or take a tuk tuk. This is our family home, originally our grandparents' and in the family for over 70 years with deep ties to Hikkaduwa. My mother and her brothers and sister grew up here, before the early intrepid Australian visitors made their early surfing trips in the 50s and 60s. My parents' great project was rebuilding the home ten years after the tsunami, we are now very proud to share this touch of serendipity with families and travellers from all over the world. Very rewarding that so many have already had such memorable holidays here.
First, just chill out in the lounge, the birds can be quite active at roosting time but they soon go to sleep and your left to the sounds of the ocean. Next take a walk on the beach - head to your left and around the Coral Gardens hotel when the tides is out and you can walk till there is pretty much just palms and sand (thats a long walk!) Swimming and snorkeling is best directly in front of the house in the calm area area of sea protected by the reef, while bigger waves for those who like a more adventurous experience and to try their hand at surfing or kite-surfing is accessible 1.5km further towards Galle at Narigama, the sister-town of Hikkaduwa. The surf schools, shopping boutiques, and some great local food restaurants are a five minute ride in a tuk tuk, which we can arrange for you, or a 20 minute walk up the beach when the tide is low enough. Here are a few of our favourite places to eat and drink. In Hikkaduwa and Narigama: •The Starfish - next door is run by my aunt's family as is a quiet, romantic spot for a simple, well prepared dish. •Aroma – about a 5 min walk along the main road is this great local family run (also three brothers and their parents) restaurant. Good local food, we have arranged so that you can order from their menu and have the food delivered at ours. •Mama's – been around for years, good choice for classic beach fare. •Spaghetti House – really good Italian on the other side of town – good 25 min walk or grab a tuk tuk. Fresh and authentic – makes a real change. •Nordic House – good burgers in this Swedish co-owned roadside restaurant. •The Rotty Shop – there are a number – the original is probably the best. Cheap and cheerful. Further afield: •The Lighthouse Hotel (between Hikkaduwa and Galle), excellent hotel with a broad ranging menu and top chefs. •The Sunhouse [Places in Galle] – enchanting colonial style location for a G&T or another sundowner of your choice. We really enjoy spending a day in Galle – wandering around the fast changing Fort area, which offers a blend of the old and the new emerging tourist scene. There are also day trips to Lunuganga – an architectural gem designed by Geoffrey Bawa, where they also do a very good lunch. There are good running routes inland which take you away from the bustle of the main road. We would also recommend the Reef End Surf school if you fancy renting a surf board or getting a lesson. Lyndon at Kailash Yoga runs a demanding yoga class daily, and some of his team teach gentler classes at Kailash Apartments in Narigama.
  • The location of the villa is very easy to be found. We are satisfied when entering the house. Staffs' smile is very beautiful, giving us a delicious welcome juice. Athough the house is close to the beach, it's not particular damp. We had a good breakfast as getting up every morning, including bread, fried eggs, freshly squeezed juice, strong coffee and sweet black tea. Staffs also help us to plunge the flat band to play in the courtyard. We used the kitchen to cook dinner. We played and talked too late to pick up the table. Staffs are very enthusiastic helping clean. If there is an opportunity, we will choose to stay here.

    Yanting2015-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The villa is less of a self contained villa than we expected it to be, which was fine by us. There is 24 hour security and a staff member who serves meals/cleans rooms/generally helps out the guests. The villa looks as good as the photos suggest. It is incredibly pretty. Highly recommend staying here. It is a lovely villa in a lovely part of the world.

  • Staying at Wigi's villa was the highlight of our trip. We traveled around Sri Lanka for 10 days then stayed at villa for another week. Property staff was truly fantastic and really made us feel at home. Villa is huge, we were 6 adults and 5 children and there was plenty of space for everybody. Rooms are clean, big, beds comfortable, toilets and showers are fantastic, everything is maintained by cleaning staff like in a 5 star hotel. Open living room which is situated on the beach side of the villa is mesmorising, we could sit there for hours just feeling the breez, listening to the waves and looking over at the ocean. Pool is really big for such a property it's about 120cm (4 feet) deep and there is even small pool attached for babies which is about 30cm (1 foot) deep, there is a cleaning service which comes every second day to clean it. Position of the villa is much better then all the hotels on the Hikkaduwa beach, because there is a coral reef right in front of the house so sea is calm and you can go snorkeling to the reef which is bursting with fish. If you want to surf there are few surfing spots just a few minutes away where sea is bit rougher and our kids loved playing in the waves (adult supervision is advised because currents are quite strong so kids should be a good swimmers). WIFI in the house is fast, I didnt meassure speed but kids could all YouTube at the same time. There is no safe in the house but we were leaving all our valuables in the rooms and never felt like we need to hide anything, there is 24h guard at the gate who keeps an eye on everything. Breakfast was included with our stay and we had some of the best omelets ever, plenty of fresh fruit and crepes filled with coconut to die for and not to forget homemade roties which are great substitute for bread. Last evening we ordered dinner in the villa which was prepared by the cooking lady of the house and it was the best Sri Lankan we tasted, not too spicy but full of flavour (one of those meals where you wish you had bigger stomach so you could eat more). There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants within few minutes walking. Next to the villa there is a great family run "Starfish restaurant" where we ate everyday because food is fresh and much better and cheaper then in other restaurants we tried in Hikkaduwa, just make sure you order day before if you want something from BBQ or outside of the menu like tiger prawns, lobsters etc. All in all, we would definitely recommend villa to a group of friends or families because it is truly special property. Staff is welcoming and try their best to accommodate your every wish and even though they live on the same...

  • Thought the house, location, staff and food were all fantastic. Stayed with my family for a few nights while travelling round the south coast. The stay felt a real treat.

    Steve2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous time at this lovely home in Hikkaduwa. It was perfect for two families travelling together and the staff took great trouble with the children - setting up a slack line in the garden which was brilliant fun - cutting down coconuts for them to try and lending us snorkels etc.. to explore the beach. The villa is huge and the bathrooms were amazing - way beyond my expectations - rooms were never too hot and the food was good. The pool is really well looked after and the children spent many hours in it. The stretch of beach in front of the house is really great - with a reef area where you can see reef fish and turtles - the sand is perfect for sandcastles too! It is safe to swim here - even in the monsoon season - early mornings were the calmest and we were able to snorkel. The staff were very attentive and even managed to get us transport to our next location at very short notice when ours fell through. There are a number of really good restaurants locally and staff are happy to recommend. All in all a great location for a family trip and the perfect start to our holiday in Sri Lanka.

  • We stayed at Villa Dharshana for 7 nights over the Easter holidays, sharing the complete villa with friends from Dubai. The location could not be better, with the beach on your doorstep and the energy and excitement of Galle Road and Hikkaduwa town outside. The villa is beautiful and well designed with plenty of space for relaxing. The bedrooms are all comfortable with fans and air conditioning for those hot humid nights. The view from the upstairs bedrooms is beautiful, looking out onto the beach through the swaying palm trees. The best part of the villa is the open plan living area which opens out onto the expansive garden with views to the ocean and reef. The beautiful pool is a real bonus when you want privacy and serenity away from the beach and crowds. The helpful staff are always on hand with any issues you may have. While we were there, there were problems with the internet which they were able to solve by telephoning the owners overseas. We also had issues with the pump for the upstairs showers being switched off, leading to no water coming through for our much needed post beach shower. Thankfully this was sorted by the third day. The staff live on site in a small dwelling to the front of the property, so if you want complete privacy, it will not be possible. Having said that, it was good to have them around to tend to any problems, and to have the 2 security guards who shared the duty in shifts of patrolling the property and making sure the house was secure each night. A highlight was the lovely fresh juice and fruit served at breakfast each morning, although if you opt for the Western Breakfast, you will have the same scrambled eggs and sausages every day! However, the wonderful view at breakfast meant it hardly mattered what was served. We visited Mamas Beach restaurant most days for lunch or a beverage watching the waves roll in. There are many bars and restaurants to choose from, but this was a short stroll along the beach with a great vibe. It was also great to jump in one of the many tuk tuks outside the front gate and take a ride to Spaghetti and Co. for a great Italian dinner. Would highly recommend Villa Dharshana for a wonderful and luxurious beach holiday at Hikkaduwa. We hope to return someday soon:)

  • We stayed here with 5 of us from the UK and 4 from Australia, the perfect mid point to meet up with family. The house was amazing, just as the photos show, only larger! Two rooms upstairs and three downstairs so we had one family upstairs and one downstairs which was great for those early mornings when you don't want to hear other peoples kids!! The location was a total winner - pool, garden and beach out the back and busy road, tuk tuks, trains, shops and restaurants right out the front. The contrast was massive and brilliant. We used tuk tuks loads and the kids loved them. The staff were great, they arranged a tour company to come over to help us figure out a few trips and cooked us breakfast every day. We took the train to Galle and the bus back which was brill. They also sorted out return taxi for us and recommended firms for the taxi from the airport. The weather in August was breezy out the back of the house, but very hot out the front. The bedrooms had brilliant AC and massive bathrooms, the common parts have ceiling fans but with the breeze we didn't need them! I would totally recommend this house.

    Rachel2016-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most enjoyable stay! My husband, 3 daughters, mother, father, brother and family all joined on this vacation. The location for scuba and snorkeling enthusiasts couldn't have been better as the coral reefs and tropical fish where right in front of the villa beachside! Thanks you to the chef, security and others for making this a memorable trip!!! We will return soon and recommend to friends and family

  • Excellent place right on the beach. Would definitely recommend!

  • Gayath wasn't there when I visited. His family was there and they welcomed me. The Cabana right on the beach. In the night it gets really quiet and the waves get loud. The Cabana is well located. I just wish they had some better ventilation in the room as it gets really hot. Overall a great experience!

  • We stayed 1 week on the Gura Cabana. It's a wonderful place, quiet, in front of the sea. Gayath wasnt here but his sister was really friendly and cooked for us really good breakfasts. It's was really tasty, but we found it too expensive ! We had good time there and remind your adress if we want to come back to Hikkaduwa.

  • Amazing! 100% worth staying here! If you want a truly great cabana experience in Sri Lanka this is the place! It’s on a quiet part of the beach but within walking distance of the restaurants and shops. There is a great little cafe 20 meters away from the front door, that serve great food all day long!

  • Our stay at Chami’s was beautiful. We were picked up at 3am from the airport and were able to check in at 5am which was really handy. Our room was up in the tree tops surrounded by the beautiful jungle. Staff were always accommodating and smiling, and the food particularly good. We enjoyed local teas, fresh fruit juices, coconut roti and delicious curries. Once checked out out Chami’s brother took us in his tuk tuk to Galle, Jungle Beach and then upto our next destination in Mirissa. All of the above was very reasonably priced - would highly recommend staying here!

  • This place was amazing. I absolutely loved the tree house! Food was amazing. Very close to the shops and to the beach.

    Martina2018-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in a little coconut hut, it was very cute

    Iris2019-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay, and would recommend Chami’s. Superb breakfast and very accommodating as we had to leave early on our last morning for the train. Dinners were also great value and delicious. Beers were cold! Nice hostel vibe. Treehouse was spacious and had own toilet, outdoor shower was just downstairs. Good location, easy walk to beach and restaurants but set off the main road so not too noisy. Water filter for refills, so we could cut down our plastic use! Fan, clean linen and towels, a few toiletries. Good value for money!

    Samantha2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Cham's Place is a nice getaway in a jungle setting. Rooms and tree houses available on various booking platforms, but don't expect a reply from the host. Please stop with all the plastic straws that get used in every drink :-(

    Ramon2019-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a cosy and lovely decorated place. Located near the Main Street and rail track. You are not fully disconnected from the village. The stuff is very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed being there and being among people in the restaurant/bar.

    Diana2019-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great location Hosts were friendly and helpful Tree house was well made, neat and tidy. Great value for money. We only stayed for one night but wished we stayed for longer.

    Amanda2018-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Chami’s place was fantastic and very well accommodating. Despite getting the booking incorrect and staying on the prior night to what was originally booked, chami was able to host us. We stayed in one of the treehouses which came fully equipped with electrical appliances, a toilet, towels etc, with a shower outside which was nice and refreshing in the morning. The bar and kitchen was a fantastic welcoming area that really made you feel at home and we had some delicious kottu for dinner as well as complimentary breakfast. Overall a great Airbnb experience and one of the best we stayed in throughout our trip in Sri Lanka!

The cabana is a one of two cabanas with sea view situated near the edge of the beach and it is just a little steps to nightlife, public transport, restaurants and family-friendly activities such as sea bathing, snorkeling, diving, lagoon safari and more. You’ll love this because of the beach front location, the comfy bed, the kitchen, and the clam environment. My place is good for couples, business travelers and solo adventurers. A delicious home made breakfast will be provided for our guests.
Tranquil Garden beach cabana is one of beautiful two cottages situated in the middle of beach, screw pine trees and coco trees. It has built near the edge of calm and sunny beach spread over a wide range with fresh breeze. It is a combination of modern facilities with natural surroundings. The cabana has a small veranda with a beautiful view of the sea and arranged it with two arm chairs and a table to enjoy the breakfast or to do some work on laptop. There is a place for yoga and space for barbecue at the garden. There are two hammocks hanging on shady coco trees. This is a quiet, cozy place in the beach!! The inner part is equipped with a comfortable double bed with a canopy, a table with a cupboard, a ceiling fan, clothing rack and doormats. Also there is a small kitchen equipped with a gas cooker, gas tank, a refrigerator, an electric kettle, a toaster, a blender and a set of plates and dishes. The shower room with hot water and the toilet is attached to the cabana itself. We have arranged all these things to add a remarkable description to your Holiday Diary!!! The place is located near to the restaurants with wide choices, shops and bars, but the location is also safer and quieter than being in the middle of things. Laying on the hammocks you can often enjoy the view of beautiful blue waves, golden beach, a variety of birds, mongooses and the odd monitor lizard, so you feel close to nature!! The most wonderful thing is you can spent all your evenings with golden sunset at your veranda itself!!
  • Great place by the beach. Not too far away from bars and restaurants. Very close to the train station.

    Matt2018-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 12 nights in this wonderful place and this very friendly family. We had a cosy bed and a homemade superyammy breakfast! Everything was as clean as possible closed to the beach! Highly recommended!

    Angela2018-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Chutti and Kanchana have a lovely beach cabana with a superb view and access to the beach. Getting around was easy with the frequent buses and tuk tuks, and they also arranged for a private driver to the airport on my final day for me, very helpful!

    Chris2017-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Cannot fault our stay we had at Tranquil Garden cabana. The location is perfect and the hospitality from Kanchana, Chutti and Kanchana's parents was so welcoming, they could assist you with anything. We had lovely homemade breakfasts brought to us every morning, and lots of tips on where to visit. Would recommend this lovely home to anyone!

    Kieran2018-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was amazing experience on amazing place! We recommend to everyone who loves nature and the proximity of the sea, Totally quiet and peaceful place although center of city is just few min driving with tuk-tuk. Kanchana is extremely kind as well as rest of her family, we feeled from the first day like at our home.

    Milan2018-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay with great hosts. Hear and see the waves from bed. Beautiful sunsets from the beach on the doorstep. Truly special place to stay.

    William2017-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Loved it! Hospitality and communication with Kanchana was A+. Beautiful place. Loved the hammocks. And the food, oh so good.. Totally recommend this place.

    Emmi2018-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Chutti and Kanchana's place for two nights. Such a cute little cabana with lovely ocean view. Beautiful family who made us feel welcome. The place is a little walk or 5min tuk tuk ride from the town - which we loved! It was so lovely and quiet. If you're in Hikkaduwa we definitely recommend this place!

We are glad to welcome you to our newly built exclusive villa in a perfect location. It´s a place for everyone because it´s calm and at the same time very close to the beach, restaurants, partys and shops (only 250m).
Our villa have five spacious rooms with king size beds and private luxury bathrooms. You have a new fully equiped kitchen to your disposition. After a long day you can chill and relax in the big garden.
  • Loved our stay! The place is beautiful and spacious! It was close to everything and loved how it was far from the noise of the main street. For such a beautiful place, I would have wanted to have beach towels included, considering that it's a beach town! Other than that, we had a lovely stay as the bed was super comfortable and the washroom amazingly clean!

    Pauline2019-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This beautiful room made my nights unique... exciting backyard with trees and natural sounds

  • This is absolutely one of the very best AirBnB properties I have ever stayed at. The place is super stylish, large rooms & vast en-suite bathrooms and an amazing common area with fully-equipped kitchen. This is all located in a well-groomed private garden - don't miss out on a stay at Agnieszka’s place!

    Sigurd2018-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • A great, clean place to stay at. Just walking distance from the beach and right in the middle of all the action. A must visit!

  • We had an awesome stay here! Sanju, the host, was amazing! Super kind, super caring and had heaps of tips on his hand! The rooms were super clean, comfortable beds and even with luxury mosquito screen and everything else you desire – towels, toilet paper, well equipped kitchen and fridge. Also a bbq spot. 2 min walk to the beach, supermarket and restaurants in walking distance. Definitely a glowing recommendation for this place. Thank you :) Lena & Katie

Hikkaduwa is a fun yet relaxed beach place in southern Sri Lanka. Some great surf breaks, beach life, cafes, restaurants and night life. All this adjoining a vast Sri Lankan landscape of villages, lakes, jungles and towns nearby.
  • It was an amazing vacation for us. The villa is greatly situated in the jungle only few minutes away from the beach but still not on the main road which gives you a great relief from the tourist hectic. Beautiful garden and pool, Brett and Sherylee were so friendly and helpful with everything - from arranging a driver for us to serving us fresh breakfast every day. If you are looking for a luxurious, relaxed and great value-for-money vacation Dancing Mango is your place!

    Dimitar2015-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at the Dancing Mango for 2 nights and the entire stay was brilliant. Sherylee and Brett were welcoming from the start. The photos of the house and room completely represent the true image of the house. Lots of nice extra touches like fresh water, tea and even rain coats. Will definitely visit again. Highly recommend !!!

    Ross2016-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Sherylee and Brett’s Airbnb „Dancing Mango“ is the perfect place to stay in hikkaduwa. The villa is placed in a really calm and quiet area and is just an easy 10min walk away from all the cute cafés and restaurants and the beach. Sherylee and Brett are really nice and lovely hosts and the two dogs Mac and Indie are cute and not intrusive at all. It was an amazing stay, highly recommended!

    Juri2018-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place! Very chill, very clean, very green + an amazing location! We loved everything about our stay!! Brett & Sherylee were very nice since before we arrived and after we left... i will definitely recommend The Dancing Mango to all my friends that go to Hikkaduwa!

    Carolina2017-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The room and the whole place is gorgeous and spotless. The facilities are great with a fridge & gym. The dogs are a little aloof but friendly once you get to know them. It's a bit of a walk to the main road and beach but only a short tuk tuk ride and this means it's very peaceful and quiet with the roar of the ocean and the occasional passing train just audible. Brett is very friendly and helpful and knows the area well. He even gave us both freshly picked coconuts to drink from! I'd definitely come back and fully recommend this place.

    Lejanne2017-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • The stay @Dancing Mango really was one of the highlights of our stay in Sri Lanka so far. Sherylee and Brett are a lovely Australian couple who made us feel at home from the first minute on. Their home and the rooms are of absolute beauty! We would recommend this place to everybody going to Hikkaduwa.

    Anaïs2015-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Will definitely be recommending the Dancing Mango to anyone we know visiting Sri Lanka! After 2 weeks in Sri Lanka, our three nights spent in the Dancing Mango were definitely our favorite. The room was great, with a beautiful outdoor shower and outdoor courtyard. The photos of the pool definitely do not do it justice - perfect lap pool that is a very refreshing temp. Sherylee was such a bubbly and caring host welcoming us in to her beautiful home, along with her two friendly dogs (who made us feel very safe!). Location is perfect, a 5 min walk from the main beach (meaning you’re away from the noisy main stretch in Hikkaduwa but still super close). Thanks Sherylee!

    Henry2018-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Dancing Mango is a contemporary, stylish home and the rooms reflect this with outdoor courtyard and bathrooms. The pool is 'to die for' and set in stunning tropical gardens. It's an easy 10 min walk to Galle Rd where you'll find a huge and varied selection of beachfront bars, restaurants and shops. Brett and Sherylee were wonderful and very welcoming hosts, happy to share their local knowledge. If your heading to Hikkaduwa, you should stay at Dancing Mango!

  • Chamis place is very well located. The staff is friendly and the food is very good. I had some trouble finding the place at first. Make sure to bring bugspray. The communication was very hard at first, I had to contact Air BnB to get an answer for my request. After that it was much better and I was even picked up at the airport.

    Realda2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great experience. Really like what Prabath is doing with the place. The rooms are clean and Prabath clearly takes great care of the place. I think they're in the process of putting up a bar area outside for guests so Chami's place is only going to get better!! Prabath is a really knowledgeable and welcoming guy who can also get you info and great rates on surf equipment and the like. Hit him up if you want to just chat or need help getting anything.

  • I stayed a Chami's place for 5 days while visiting Hikkaduwa. It's a charming place just off the main road that runs through the tourist area of Hikkaduwa and only about a 5 minute walk to the main beach area. It's a wonderful place to stay while there. The rooms are a good size, and very clean. Chami himself is a wonderful host and the people that work at the home are cheerful, helpful people that made our stay wonderful. The only thing to keep in mind is there is no air conditioning, but there are fans in every room that help cut the heat of Sri Lanka. It was a wonderful experience to stay at Chami's place, and I would definitely recommend staying there.

    Rachel2016-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and awesome staff. Very accommodating group of people. Would stay again for sure.

    Felicia2018-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Chami's Place was the best we stayed at during our trip to Sri Lanka! Chami and his brother were very warm hosts, as were the rest of the staff. The location close to the beach and main street of shops and restaurants was perfect. The rooms and shared bathrooms were always very clean. Breakfast is AMAZING (to be paid separately but is worth it) and on the evening we arrived we got to enjoy a great bbq dinner. Generally really great atmosphere and would recommend to anyone staying in Hikkaduwa.

    Sara2016-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice stay at chamis House, very good (included) breakfast, beautiful area and garden!

Its calm and quiet.. Huge garden with lots of greenish space. Gentle service. Feel the wooden atmosphere, without same concrete wall.
  • This place was beautiful. Very nice rooms with a lot of space and lovely details. Faust and his wife were very polite, helpful and friendly. He gave us good advices. The brakefast was also pretty yummie. It was a nice time in hikkaduwa. Thanks for everything, Sabine and Linda.

  • Had an amazing stay at Chanaka’s place. The cabins were stylish and clean with very comfortable beds with a beautiful outdoor shower. The cabins are quiet and outside of town but only a short walk away from the beach. The host was wonderful, kind and helpful. Would highly recommend!

    Erin2018-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Tucked away from the main road, yet a short walk from the beach. Breakfast was the bare minimum, though the fresh fruit juice was great. Some of the linens had a lot of burr that stuck to us and we're still pulling it out of our hair and whatnot. Overall I'd say it was a tad expensive for what was on offer, going by some of the other places we'd stayed at in Sri Lanka.

    Darshan2017-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a perfect stay. The cabin are really great and very clean. Faust is an excellent histand a very knowladgeable and interesting person with whom we had great conversations. This listing has great great value. Also, there were monkeys

    Casper2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice concept of accomodation for tourists with interesting furnishing. Outdoor bathroom was something special what we dont have comnonly. Location of the place is quite fine, no noise from the street and up to 10 minutes to the beach (Narigama beach we liked much more than Hikkaduwa). There is a bus stop as well, so no need to travel to Hikkaduwa main station and than back (if you have journey from Galle side).. Generally everything was very good and Chanaka's father is special person who cared about us as for his own children :) He has perfect English so he is a right one to talk about local stuffs for example. We recomnend!

    Veronika2019-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great stylish Airbnb! Very quiet in a busy area. Faust is a helpful host :)

  • We had a great time at Chanaka 's place ! We could not meet him in person, but we had the chance to be welcome by his lovely parents ! The room was really clean, the WiFi excellent, and you can enjoy an ourdour shower which looks very exotic :). Close to the beach, bus and train stops, the bungalow is perfectly located ! Highly recommended :)

    C2019-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • The greatest Airbnb we have been in our whole Sri Lanka trip. Clean, quiet, 10 minutes to the beach! I never got any host more helpful than that. We felt like we were part of the family.

  • Thank you for a lovely stay Valentina, your place was perfect and you and your family were wonderful hosts. I had a great stay at Valentines place. The room was perfect, very spacious and immaculate clean. Valentina and her family provided a great breakfast and were very helpful when I was booking transport to my next place. I couldn’t have asked for more from my host and I would highly recommend staying here.

    Lara2018-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Valentina and her staff were absolutely amazing. Always quick to respond to messages and went out of the way to help us. The rooms were very clean and very nice. It was ideally situated, far enough from the main road so that you don't hear the hustle and bustle of the traffic and close enough to catch a tuk tuk to go wherever you please. On thing I must mention is Valentina's food - it was so authentic and was so good we wished we had all our meals there. Definitely going back again.

    Lorellie2017-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Look no further! Valentinas private village is amazing. Clean rooms, good food, has a nice little pool and a cozy place to hang out at night. Great hospitality and service. Hikks Villa is situated on a quiet breathtaking stretch of the Hikkaduwa Beach with absolute privacy.Just 20 minutes off the southern expressway. offers top notch home cooking and the sound of the waves gives you absolute peace and tranquility.
We give the guests a homely feeling and privacy
Safe & Peaceful neighborhood, but there are few building work happening next to our neighbors , some times the noise can be heard. Since we are so close to beach , The waves make bigger sound than that.
  • The house was exactly as advertised. Beachfront house with spacious rooms, cool interiors and nice outdoor pool. The helpers are very accommodating and they cook well. One of the best vacations we had.

    Conrad Allan Jay2015-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Hikks Villa is in an ideal location, right on the beach, and just south of Hikkaduwa enough to offer peace and quiet but still close enough to walk to beach restaurants and bars. Each bedroom had its own bathroom and AC and there was WiFi that worked throughout the house right out into the yard. The pool was fantastic and you could gaze out onto the beach and see the waves while floating around the pool with a beer! The housekeeping staff were outstanding. They prepared great meals when we asked them to, and would shop for us as well if we asked. They provided Itemized receipts and we just paid them, worked great! They kept the villa in tip top shape and if we had any issues all we had to do was ask and it was dealt with immediately. They also provided names of drivers and provided advice on what to do to enhance our holiday. Very friendly guys! We will stay again at Hikks Villa when we return to Sri Lanka and I would readily recommend to any of my friends to stay there as well. Great value for money!

  • We really enjoyed our week stay at Hikks Villa. The full house with 3 bedrooms/3.5 bathrooms was more than enough space for our 3 person family and our other 5 guests. We preferred a private villa over a hotel and the opportunity to enjoy local foods that we could have prepared to our tastes and we couldn't get that in a hotel. The chef did a great job preparing meals for us for the things we wanted to eat. I have some allergies and he did great at avoiding those things. Our caretaker did our shopping, laundry and anything else we needed with a cheerful smile always. When we needed to go to 5+ souvenir shops in a row to find just 1 item, our driver was more than happy to take us and watch our baby while we did some shopping. We enjoyed the pool and the direct access to the beach. We loved our vacation and hate that it was only 1 week. We can't wait to come back to Sri Lanka and we would recommend Hikks Villa to anyone!

  • Loved one stay at Hikks Vila. We enjoyed the pool and easy access to the beach. The enthusiastic and impeccable service offered by Wije and Jayantha was much appreciated. Look forward to another stay!

  • A beautiful villa - left us with our jaws wide open at how spectacular the rooms were, the pool, the beach... everything! Our stay was incredible, the service was out of this world, breakfast was amazing and the seafood dinner cooked for us by Jayanthan and Nimal was to die for! Everything was spotless clean. Walked to the main beach area in 10 minutes so the villa is perfectly located. I would highly recommend Hikks Villa to anyone and everyone visiting Sri Lanka! 5 stars from us Aussies!

  • The host give us a warm hospitality. The place is very good with beach and private swimming pool. The food provided by the host is extremely impressive and it is actually the best one I've tasted on my vacation in sirilanka. I will choose hikks villa if I go sirilanka next time.

  • Right from the moment Praveen picked us up from the airport to the time we departed - the stay at Hikks Villa was delightful. The location of the villa provides easy access to southern Sri Lanka sites and Colombo. The beach is a stunner. The villa is exactly as is in the pictures. To top all these pros - the 2 caretakers Vijay and Sannat are the cherry on the cake - they cooked us several meals, kept the place clean and took care of any other requests we had - all with a big smile. The holiday was restful - exactly what we all wanted. Thank you Praveen, Vijay and Sannat.

  • Our week at Hikks Villa was just amazing! We have two small boys, so we had to re-arrange a little furniture to make the place a little more kid-friendly (i.e. not just running out to the pool!) and the staff were amazingly helpful and accommodating. Spending a week right on the beach, with wonderful people and food: a delight!! Thanks to the amazing staff who made our week special. Highly recommend!

Includes delicious home-cooked local breakfast, and new hot water system. Slightly set apart from my family home, just less than 5 minutes walk to the beautiful beach and its wide range of restaurants and bars, this cosy double en-suite room is perfect if you want to be close to the beach but not right on top of it. An ideal peaceful spot to explore our beautiful coastline from. This is a great option for backpackers and those looking for a taste of Sri Lankan family life!
The room itself has a private bathroom with hot water shower, double bed with mosquito net, ceiling fan, and a covered terrace area outside with seating where breakfast is served. It only takes less than 5 minutes (approximately 450m) to walk from here to the sea front and Hikkaduwas wide choice of different restaurants, shops and bars, but the location means it is also safer and quieter than being in the middle of things. Sitting outside you can often see a variety of birds, monkeys, chimunks and the odd monitor lizard-you feel close to nature. The beach here is suitable for all the family, but please feel free to ask for advice on safe spots to swim, or the best places to surf or snorkel. Amila is a Surf instuctor and can arrange board hire, lessons or anything else you may need, as well as trips to the lagoon, waterfall or even further afield to the East coast or beautiful Hill country. As your hosts, we love to introduce our guests to local food and Amila's mother- Priyanthi-will happily cook a delicious local dinner for you (at an extra charge).
The house is situated in an area of Hikkaduwa called Narigama. We love being based here as we are directly between the busier area of bars, restaurants and surf towards the North end (High season) and the quieter area to the south where you can take walks and see fewer people! It's only a short walk from our front door to the beach and only a quick tuk tuk ride to town for the market, Banks, bus and train station and local-style restaurants.
  • Staying at Amila's was actually our first AirBnB experience - and we could not of imagined a better way to start! Both Amila and Hannah went out of their way to assist us in anything we needed - from detailed directions all the way from Colombo, to assisting us with washing and with our plans for the rest of our stay in Sri Lanka. Amila's mum prepared amazing breakfasts and the room was perfect - clean, close to the beach and really comfortable. We have already booked in for another night at Amila's at the end of our stay.

    Ellie 2015-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Amila and Hannah are great hosts - starting with detailed instructions on how to find a place (which wasn't a problem at all) and providing lots of valuable information regarding the area, places to eat, visit etc. Let alone one may discover quite a few new things regarding Sri Lanka, local people / traditions over a bottle of wine or just a conversation :) We were staying for 7 nights so had some time to explore the area - the location is excellent - a bit away from the town center, but in a 5 minute walking distance from the sandy beach. A local mini-market and a family-owned Rotty place to eat (which we liked a lot) is just around the corner. A main Supermarket is a bit further north but still within walking distance, lots of restaurants along the beach. The breakfast is served every morning - we opted for a traditional local one (why would one go to Sri Lanka to get european food?) - it was a very interesting experience to try it out! The breakfast is really homemade and tasted great (but be prepared for curry!). The room has a private bathroom / shower, very clean, not huge but quite enough for two. It was a non-AC room and ceiling fan was quiet enough to not to bother in the night. For those bothered with a proximity of a railway - keep in mind the train itself isn't that loud (the railway speed in Sri Lanka is nothing compared to Europe) and when the locomotive horns - it's equally audible across the entire Hikkaduwa :) I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and would stay there myself again.

  • Hannah and Amila are really friendly hosts and they offer lot of information about restaurants, surf spots and other activities. The beach is just couple minutes walk from the house. We really enjoyed our stay in Banana Leaf.

  • Hannah is very kind and thoughtful host and Amila is such a good cook!! I’m so happy that I stayed at their place and I will definitely come back to this place next time. It’s only 5 mins walk to the beach and felt safe as well. Good breakfast and nice vibes. 200% recommended!!

  • Staying at Banana Leaf with Amila and Hannah was great ! They were both really helpful and the brakfast was delicisous... The room is comfortable, clean and situated in a quiet area but still very close to the Hikkaduwa beach.

    Nicolas2016-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Many thanks to Amila and Hanna. They are very friendly and always ready to give you a good advise. They can help in any questions to rent a bike, tuk-tuk, surf lessons, where to eat and go to party... everythig))) A room is very clean and comfortable. I really liked this area cause its very calm, there wasn`t any nose from the road. Mother Amila cooks very tasty breakfast. If you want you also can eat lunch or dinner. The road to the beach in 7-10 minites. Guest is near Narigama beach, its good for surfing and many bars near. Thank you so much for all.

Guruwaththa Eco Lodge is a cabana type, self catering apartment ideal for single, couple, and couple with infant. The lodge is modern, but designed with Sri Lankan Traditional styles. Lodge offers, a beautiful fully furnished bed room with huge comfortable bed covered with mosquito net; equipped with a flat screen satellite TV, mirror table and wardrobe. Small handy kitchen equipped with microwave and refrigerator, bread toaster, and kitchen essentials for preparing small meals. Modern Private bathroom, and veranda with wooden deck overlooking the beautiful paddy field. Amazing natural atmosphere with birds, trees, flowers, water pond, will make quiet and peaceful environment for relaxing reading and dining. Your stay will include free Wi-Fi and Free parking on suite.
The lodge is situated in Hikkaduwa tourist area, so you can find all your needs within the town area, such as Sunday market, Banks, Shops, Spa treatments, massage centres, bars, fitness centres and so many things to do like diving, surfing, snorkel, and swimming.
  • We have spent 13 days in Eco Lodge enjoying Sri Lanka and partly working remotely. So here is our feedback on this place. Villa is fully private and general territory with houses of the host family, entrance with a gate (you can park motorbike or a car here). This place is a bit far by walk (500m) from Main Road, cafes, shops and so on, but you can catch tuk-tuk just near your house. House by itself around 30m2 studio living area with a kitchen and private bathroom. Kitchen relatively small for a long stay and has a tricky gas stove, suitable for breakfast but for lunch and dinner, it would be inconvenient. Amenities included: microwave, toaster, fridge, gas stove, kitchenware, also hair dryer but old and should be changed. The light is not enough for reading in the dark time. On the terrace you can find the table that can be suitable for breakfast and even working with a laptop (few sockets are there), also you can use it for dry your cloth. Huge bathroom with summer shower and all conveniences. AC not needed in this place and the fan works quite good. Please note that internet included 5Gb of data but you can extend it for 750 Rs, connection is fast. Bed linen was changed every 4 days. Finally, we want to admit outstanding responsiveness of hosts, they tried to help every time and answered all questions we had, also they provide convenient transfers.

  • Hands down the beat air b n b experience for us! Buddika and his lovely family were helpful, friendly and so welcoming! We loved every minute of our stay. The place: modern, very clean (and I'm very picky), serene, beautiful, surrounded by nature and good clean air. The lodge is away from the busier part but that didn't stop us partying at all. In fact, we walked to the beach in under 10 minutes, 15 minutes to the rotty shops and busier parts. I can't give enough praise, we were sad to leave but will return and will recommend all of our friends stay. Buddika and company did all to make our stay wonderful, even inviting us in to their house and offering bed change and fresh towels. Wonderful!

    Sarah2017-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • It was a nice stay and good to reach by foot or tuk tuk. The beach isn't far away but if you're looking for an empty beach it's not the one you're searching for. There are many hotels and guesthouses so it's quite difficult to find a place in the shadow which doesn't belong to a guesthouse. The lodge is small but perfect for two people and it has a nice terrace with a nice view. You have to be prepared for insects but thats quite normal if you stay somewhere surrounded by nature.

    Fabienne2019-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Place was nice and clean, beautiful big garden. We loved the big balcony and jungle voices. Buddika was realy helpful with everything. Thank you!

    Daniel2019-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Buddika’s place was really stunning. A beautifully thought out space in a lovely ‘jungle’ setting! I would highly recommend to a solo traveller or couples. I would not recommend to those who do not like dogs as there are LOTS along the walk to town/beach. I would also not recommend to people travelling with infants as I don’t think the property is well suited due to splintered decking and no air con (a must in SL with Baby I think!). Thanks Buddika!

    Anna, Simon & Herbie2019-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and clean lodge just outside Hikkaduwa. You can easily get to Hikkaduwa beach and centre by foot or Tuk Tuk in just a few minutes, but you get the benefits of living close to nature, away from traffic. The hosts were very helpful and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. We warmly recommend this accommodation!!

    Josefine2017-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • It’s taken Me days after leaving to write this review but the memories are still very vivid. Staying at your place was an absolute pleasure. The Host were always very polite and ready to help. Very calm and relaxing. .The rooms are modern and clean with the host available at all times making sure that everything works well and that you are fully happy. Take my word- just come and see for yourself. Thank you so much for the warm hospitality. Namaste!!!!!

-DAILY YOGA CLASSES AT 3.30PM UNTIL 4TH FEB- Yoga & nature lovers!!Amazing studio located in paradise just minutes away from the turquoise waters of Narigama beach, best surfing beach in Hikkaduwa, and with fully equiped kitchen, hot water, and stunning views and wildlife from the yoga deck!!!
It has double bed, fan, hot water, and equipped kitchen with fridge if you want to cook instead going out for a rice and curry…;) There is also a chill out chair that could turn into a single bed for a third person if needed ( at extra cost) The studio its only 500 mt from the turquoise waters of Narigama beach, Hikkaduwa, one of the most beautiful surfing beaches in Sri Lanka, and its located next to a Buddhist temple on the top of the hill, so if you want to find a little peace after the craziness of Galle rd, this is the place for you. Also in the land there is my house and a beautiful wooden deck overlooking the paddy fields, where magic takes place every sunrise or afternoon with monkeys, amazing birds, water buffalos… you name it…perfect for yoga, meditation or simple being... I can show you how a vanilla plant looks like, or a cinnamon, or curry tree, bananas, pepper, papaya, clove tree, lemon grass, coconut, jack fruit, bread fruit, passion fruit ….and my first pineapple which is growing as you read this ( over excited about that little one)
And of course, if you get tired of the hard beach surfing life and want to travel around, visit turtles, go to waterfalls, temples, Yala Park , whale watching or anything else, I give you some advice or arrange for you no probs.
  • Great place. The room is amazingly well designed in very minimal and scandinavic fashion. Balcony with view of field, yoga house and forest. Such a good place to stay. Host is amazingly helpful and made great suggestions on restoraunts/places.

  • Eva promptly sent a message with some instructions and the wifi password. She paid us a visit, too, as soon as she was back in town. She's very personable and generous, and her space is peaceful, clean, and lovely. It's tucked away from the busy main road, but restaurants and the beach are walkable. If you know how to ride a scooter (and are feeling a bit lazy due to the heat like we were), you might consider renting one just for the sake of convenience. All in all, I stayed at several Airbnbs across Sri Lanka, and Eva's definitely stood out.

    Tyler2016-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay, ended up to extend it for a day. The place is in walking distance from main road, but can be hard to find. You can hear only voices of nature from the front terrace and hammocks. This is the place to relax!

    Meri2017-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, relaxing destination for a short retreat. Easy walking distance to the main road and beach, although it was nice to be perched back a little bit. The studio contained everything needed for a few days stay.

    Alex2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Ms Ewa's studio with very short notice and she was very kind and extremely helpful with all the arrangements. Ewa and her friends make you feel like you are at home. We were really pleased and happy with the quiet and peaceful atmosphere in the very center of busy and hectic Hikkaduwa. The studio was so beautiful, all the details are thought carefully. The nature around with monkeys and squirrels and birds are really nice too. I think it suits very well for all kind of people, couples, families or yoga/surf travellers. We will definitely want to come back here on our next trip and tell the same thing to all our friends and families. Thank you so much Ewa <3

  • Eva was the most amazing host possible without actually being present there. She had arranged everything to perfection, including a ride from the airport to her place. The place is beautiful and surrounded by trees and wildlife. The caretaker is very helpful in arranging a bike or anything else you need. We had a wonderful stay and hopefully will come back super soon! Love

    Sneha2015-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 2 magically nights in Eva place. This is definitely the best peaceful, bueti and lovely place we ever had. Eva greatly care of us and we have got all we need. Definitely recommed to visit here!!

    Maayan2017-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Eva's apartment is a great place to relax and unwind away from the buzz of Hikkaduwa. The garden is amazing with lots of wildlife to keep you entertained, including monkeys, colourful birds and cheeky squirrels! It's only 5-10 min walk to Narigama beach, where there are lots of chilled out bars and restaurants to enjoy. A great relaxing stay.

  • The location of the place is perfect and right on the beach. The place is reasonable and nice rooms .... with the beach, restaurants right in the vicinity.... great place and with a helpful host.

  • My initial booking was for 3 nights, but I loved it there so much I stayed an additional three. All of thee staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. Radika provided local information about things to do and see. The rooms were comfortable and clean. You can’t beat the location. Located right on the beach you have a very short walk to your left for surfing and to the right there is snorkeling. Their food was delicious, but if you want to try other options the beach is loaded with different bars and restaurants. I would definitely return in the future.

    Tim2018-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Curry bowl was awesome just behind the sea. The room was great but i would recommend you go for the AC one. The lighting and ambience was romantic. The food at Curry bowl was awesome. We ordered the devilled fish and fried rice it was so delicious and their banana milk shake was perfect. From the train station just get a tuk tuk tell them curry bowl it should cost about 100 to 150 rupees

    Angel2018-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • The place is located at the beach and we got a chance to swim with the turtles. The hospitality was very good. However the room provided to us had damps on the wall and there were mosquitoes in there.

    Ashish2018-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a good place for sea views.. the hostess was kind especially when I found there was no hot water for shower in room she immediately gave me one room for taking shower.

    Zoe2018-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful place and they were very welcoming. The place is perfectly located, in front of the beach, near the turtles ( that you can't touch or disturb! ) and all the activities ( diving, surf,... ). It is at 20 min by foot from the train station. The Wi-Fi is not always working, but who really need it in a such beautiful place?

    Estelle2019-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Radika was the perfect host. This is a really wonderful place! The room (single bed) was provided with a comfy bed, cozy, clean, quiet, well-ventilated. The location is very convenient, close to the beach. The neighbourhood area is pretty calm and clear and a couple of departmental stores are easily accessible. As soon as we reached Radika told us about all the places we could visit nearby and the things we could do. They have a beautiful hallway which I particularly want to mention. The parking in front was a huge plus and really made things convenient for us as we hired a scooter. Also it was really sweet of her to part us with a souvenir. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at her residence. Overall it was a great experience for me. I would highly recommend Radika’s if one is looking for a nice place to stay.

  • Lakshan and his family were really nice and open-minded. He picked us up from a hotel close to the apartment when we arrived at hikkaduwa and brought us to our place. We had a good stay and felt comfortable. Sometimes you can hear the trains, apart from that the area is really quiet. Thank you for the nice stay Lakshan!

    Julia2016-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lakshan and his family were extremely welcoming and hospitable. Nothing was too hard. The dinner prepared for us was the best food we have had in Sri Lanka and the breakfast was delicious. Our toddler still asks for egg hoppers when we ask what she wants for breakfast.

  • We stayed overnight with Rannulu. His place is nice and quite large. All privacy is there. Recommended for travellers seeking value for money.

  • Jay is a very warm and friendly host and provided us with extremely good hospitality. The place is spacious and comfortable, and positioned away from the main road so it is not very noisy at night. Be aware that the home shows some age, but is still kept in reasonable condition. The walk from the main road is about 10 minutes and it is a very quick tuk tuk ride to the train station. You may also spot some monkeys in the garden which we found quite exciting.

    Samuel2019-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely spacious house about ten minutes walk from the beach, which gives you a chance to get away from the hyper-touristy areas. There is no AC but we found the nights quite cool regardless. Jay was really kind and responsive, letting us know when he would be unavailable and taking time to ensure that we were happy with everything.

    Katherine2018-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The host canceled this reservation 5 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

    Conor2016-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home near the beach, we enjoyed the monkeys in the garden!

    Jenni2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • It is a big and clean house with good location (it takes up to 10 minutes to get to the beach with turtles). Beautiful garden where you can see some animals. Recommend for groups of 4 and company with children.

    Daniel2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • The house is located at a distance of 500m from the beach and the host is one of the nicest people you will get to meet. A clean house along with all the amenities one could ask for are available at their house. The hosts help you out with just about anything that you'll need and you can be rest assured of walking out happy at the end of your stay. Book this place with your eyes closed!

    Arjun2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Good location close to the beach, Jay met us at the door with the keys and gave us tips on what to do around town. Everything was in order, and it was great value!

  • Trishan was a wonderful host. We were picked up from the train station and shown the short cut to the beach right away! This house was the perfect hide away from the bustling main road. Everything only a short walk or very cheap tuk tuk. Trishan was very prompt at replying any questions we had and provided helpful responses. We would definitely stay here again - such great value for money! Thank you so much for the wonderful stay. Zoe and Reuben

  • Had an amazing time in such a lovely stay. Trishan was so kind and very easy to communicate with.. would love to stay there again if I am back in the area!

  • Very good house! Thanks

    Ekaterina2018-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • Trishan’s place has everything you need. Two huge bedrooms with double beds, spacious kitchen, living room, dining area and a basic bathroom. The kitchen is very well equipped with presso pan, blender, toaster and all pots and kettles you might need. Yes, the railway is right next to the apartment but just use your ear plugs and you’ll be fine :) There is no a/c but very powerful fans on the ceiling in every room. Trishan and his family are all very friendly and their hospitality was something that made our stay very special. Trishan arranged us a taxi to the airport and was super flexible with our check out time. Excellent value for the money! Recommend!

  • In overall it has been a comfortable stay at his place unfortunately the train is coming by every few hours right near the house but in general that disturbance disappears after few days as you get used to it. Thanks for being so accommodating

    Tobias2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Good place. Nice owner. The only complain is the railroad that is right next to the house.

  • Nimal and Chani are ideal hosts. Very welcoming, always kind and helpful. Excellent at communicating and at a superior level of service, all in a warm family atmosphere. The meals served al fresco are super! Excursions very personalized and well worth doing. The house is comfortable and in a quiet neighborhood, well situated because it's easy to access both Hikkaduwa as well as Galle. There is a gorgeous isolated beach 5 minutes walking and a nature lagoon. The choice to stay here is very good!

    Cesar2017-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • It was really one of the best experiences. You feel like you have one more family, now in Sri Lanka. You feel comfortable and you know there is somebody for you who can support you and give you the hand. You are going home in the evening and you know there is a wonderful dinner waiting for you. And that's all Nimal's house. Thank you.

    Viktoria2017-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Nimal, Chani and their kids are really nice and kind people. Surrounding of their home is very beautiful with a lot of coconut palm trees, river and a nearby fishing market with a fishing harbour. Firstly we wanted to book an accommodation in Hikkaduwa, but Dondaduwa is definitely a better choice as it is quieter and less touristic. Hikkaduwa can be reached very quickly by a tuk tuk, so if you have some activities scheduled over there, it is fine. Nimal can also arrange a lot of tours for you and even a cooking lesson, which we enjoyed a lot. Meals during our whole stay were freshly made and super delicious.

    Lenka2017-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Nimal and his family were very friendly, helpful and welcoming hosts. The meals were also one of the most delicious ones we have eaten in Sri Lanka. Nimal also took us to a food market and on a sightseeing-tour around Hikkaduwa, which was very fun. The room was very spacious and clean, also the bed was very comfortable. You should definitely stay at Nimal‘s homestay, if you are in the area.

    Vera2018-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Kusal is a splendid host, and we enjoyed our short stay (only one night). The place is very nice and tidy, and I woke up to the sounds of the birds in the forest behind the house. The food his wife prepared for us will be one of the best things we ever tasted in Sri Lanka- we highly recommend! If we come back to this part of the country, we’ll visit again. Thanks!

    Sarah2018-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Really the best place to stay if are in the area! Avoid Hikkaduwa and just go to Nimal's & Chani's place in Dodanduwa! If u wanns get to know Sri Lankan culture, food and family life, that homestay is perfect! Nimal is fluent in english and really knows everything about Sri Lanka, will drive u around and is able to show u all amazing places u need to see! A must-place to stay at!!! We will miss talking to Nimal! Sven&Beeke

    Sven2016-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • I was so happy to found his Airbnb - his family is amazing and the communication was really good! The balcony (that is shared by both rooms that he is offering) is fantastic: in the morning there is sunlight right after sunrise and in the evening there are fireflies everywhere :)

    Andreas2018-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Kusal's place. The house is well kept, the room is nice and clean and the bed is very comfortable. The home made food they offered us was fantastic. Kusal and family are very friendly and reliable. Highly recommended.

  • Sithu villa is a cozy, elegant and a well thought out space. It is located away from the main stretch of hikkaduwa and is extremely peaceful. We were met at check in by Manoj who was very helpful. We loved it and will be back! Thank you for a memorable stay.

    Naushaly And Ashan2019-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Place was very nice and extremely modern. Sink was leaking and some parts could be a bit cleaner. The shower pressure was not very good but overall it was really nice, just needs a few touch ups.

    Jade2018-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • This property is lovely inside, just as the pictures suggest. The bed is very comfortable but we got NO sleep. Although this villa is very close to the beach and and restaurants/bars, it is flanked by a VERY NOISY main road on one side, and a busy train line on the other. The noise in this villa is constant and LOUD. If you are wanting peace and quiet, or long lazy sleep-ins, this is not the place. The staff who cleaned the place were very nice. As are the people in the neighbourhood, including the shopkeeper across the road. DO NOT organise transport through the villa. We organised travel from Colombo to the property weeks in advance and confirmed day before. He only organised the driver 20 minutes beforehand resulting in the driver taking us in a different direction while he tried to find fuel for the car, which took three different petrol stations in the suburbs and a very long detour resulting in several dead-ends and car parks. He was very tired, having to stop for coffee along the way because "I am falling asleep while driving"

    Kate2018-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Sithu Villa for two nights and had a wonderful stay. The villa is just as depicted in the photos - large, private and well set up for a short or long stay. It's a nice 15-20 minute walk or a 150-200LKR tuk-tuk to the main haunts and Hikkaduwa Beach a little up Galle Road. Highly recommend this place.

    Georgia2017-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful villa, affordable price. Quite noisy in mornings due to location- be prepared. Close to main strip of hikkaduwa.

    Arthur2017-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • The house was exactly like described. Two women came every second day to clean the whole house and this was free of charge. The brother of the owner made us breakfast everyday but it was 600 rupies per day, a bit more expensive than in the description. It was a bit noisy because the house was between the main road and the traintrack but it was near to the beach. I would highly recommend this place.

    Michelle2018-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here with my two friends, and found the place to be very well designed, simplistic but tasteful, situated in a convenient location and exceptional value for money. My one gripe would be that the kitchen is not adequately equipped for much cooking but is certainly manageable. There is a shop opposite from where you can buy basic groceries. The extra bed is a sofa bed but not at all uncomfortable and is situated upstairs with the double bed. I would definitely stay here again.

    Romali2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time here. Host is very friendly and helpful. Once I’ve drowned my phone, host gave me a ride to repair service and back to villa on his own car. Also his family lives near, so in case of any difficult situation they are ready to help. The villa itself looks completely same as on photos, plus there is a nice backyard, that you can’t see on photos, but there is a table and a grill available. The beach is very close, it’s clean and there are several hotels and restaurants. Waves are a bit high, adults can do swimming, but children probably can’t. Advices for travelers: be ready that every house close to shore is also close to the railroad, so there are a lot of noise happens during the day. Tuktuk is a cheap way to travel short distance, 1km ~ 100 rupees, but if you go further than 5-6km - negotiate, to make price lower. Good fruits are 800m from you, walk on main road towards Galle, on a junction near Buddhist temple, you will find a bunch of shops in one big yellow building and small fruit market in it’s courtyard.

  • If you are looking for a complete break from the heat and buzz of Sri lanka then this is your place, a calm serene villa among the rice paddies, just idyllic.

  • Thank you Glenn and Fiona for the very warm welcome. Stunning garden and pool, felt very private and relaxed after the chaotic Sri Lankan cities. Good location - very close to Hikkaduwa. Would recommend.

  • This villa was fantastic! Tam was a super communicator and answered the many questions I had really fast. I stayed with my 6 month old and husband and brother in law. we had. the best time relaxing by the pool, but it was also really convenient to hop on a tuk tuk to get to town. I would highly recommend this villa!

  • Een geweldige accomodatie! Als je in Hikkaduwa verblijft, zeker dit huis boeken! This was the best place we had during our whole trip trough Sri Lanka. The villa is even better in real life. The garden and the infinity pool are breathtaking. The house is really clean and everything smells like fresh cinnamon. The towels are soft and the outdoor shower makes it complete. No words can describe the hospitality of the staff. Everyone was so nice and friendly. My boyfriend proposed to me on the 5th of september at the pool. The staff arranged flowers. Everything was decorated with pink and red flowers. In the evening we had an Amazing dinner. The cook makes everything fresh and it was really good! I wish we could stay here longer. I already miss the place. We are coming back...!

  • I was at this place in July 2015 for my birthday weekend with friends, we were 5 in total. Have to say we're glad we did this trip!! Brilliant place, Super Host, Amazing Caretakers, a wonderful garden, relaxing infinity pool and all this is just 10mins away from most of what you can do in Hikkaduwa! The surprise though was the open garden / shower in one of the rooms. Really neatly done! If you're 5-6 ppl and want a peaceful stay but also have access to letting your hair down and partying at nights then this is probably your best bet! To Dos: 1) Never drive / get your own car from Colombo - Get dropped here and hire a scooter. The caretakers are very helpful and will ensure you get one (Approx 800 LKR per day) 2) The food isn't the best bet in Hikkaduwa (rather majority places outside of Colombo). The Citrus serves good food, but having the in-house caretaker / cook make it is probably the best! They do know how to welcome you to a perfect dinner table! :) 3) The places to party are: Mambos (Saturday nights) - Best Beach party in Hikkaduwa Vibration - Landside Party (Saturday Nights) Top Secret - Nice Beach shack (second best to Mambos)

    Rajiv2015-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Nice villa with green views inside . Inside of the villa , there's a main house and a clean and big swimming pool just behind the house . The staff there are all very nice , you can ask them for anything you need , even our chef drove us to the downtown for totally free ! We wanted to stay longer , it's a really good place to enjoy a wonderful vocation ! The location is also perfect , 5-10mins to the beach and some other shops.

  • First stop on our trip - and it was wonderful! Made it very easy to arrive on Sri Lanka. Location is very quite and chilled, directly at the lake and with a nice garden (with self grown bananas). To city-Centre / main beach it’s a 50-100 Rp TukTuk ride or 5-10 Minute walk. Room was exactly like on the pictures, very clean and spacious. The hosts were so heartwarming and helpful and the breakfast each morning was amazing. Best place we could have imagined to stay in Hikka!

    Philipp2017-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely 10 night stay with Madu. The rooms are modern and clean. The location next to the lake is great for an afternoon swim, the breakfast was fantastic and we were made to feel welcome by Madu and his family. A 10 tminute walk to Hikkaduwa Beach or a $1 in a TukTuk and 5-6 minutes from the train station. Thank Madu!

    Joe2017-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • We would highly recommend this place to stay. It's well located, a short walk to unawatuna town and beach. There is a like where you can dip into. You have a continental breakfast included, which is great to start the day. The room is really nice with a comfy bed and a hot shower. N. B. : We had a small bug problem that madu quickly fixed by giving us a mosquito net and free AC!

The cabana is a one of two cabanas with sea view is situated at the edge of the beach and just a little steps to nightlife, transport, restaurants and family-friendly activities such as sea bathing, snorkeling, diving, lagoon safari and more. You’ll love this due to the beach front location, the comfy bed, Excellent WiFi, en-suit bathroom with hot water and clam environment. Cabana is good for couples, business travelers and solo adventurers. A delicious home made breakfast will be provided.
Tranquil Garden sea front cabana is one of beautiful cottages situated in the middle of beach and screw pine and coco trees. It has built at the edge of calm and sunny beach spread over a wide range with fresh breeze. The inner part is equipped with a comfortable king size bed with a canopy, a table with a cupboard, a ceiling fan, clothing rack and doormats. Also there is a refrigerator, an electric kettle, and plates and cutlery with tea cups. The shower room with hot water and the toilet is attached to the cabana itself. We have arranged all these things to add a remarkable description to your Holiday Diary!!! The place is located near to the restaurants with wide verity of choices, shops and bars, but the location is also safer and quieter than being in the middle of things. Laying on the hammocks you can often enjoy the view of beautiful blue waves, golden beach, a variety of birds, mongooses and the odd monitor lizard, so you feel close to nature!! The most wonderful thing is you can spent all your evenings with golden sunset at your veranda itself!!
There is a little super market which you can buy food items cool drinks other daily essentials in the junction and a shop you can buy fruits and vegetables. Both are situated in just walking distance. There are good restaurants with music, wide verity of food and drinks, coffee, Shisha with different flavors, barbecue and chill outs within walking distance from the cabana.
  • The beach hut is in a quiet space and you pretty much get your own little private beach, which is amazing. Dinners were also extremely nice, we really loved the hospitality. Hikkaduwa town is easily reachable by walking (train tracks walk is nice) or by tuk tuk. I will add that, inevitably, this is not a place for the faint of heart or with an insect/critter phobia, as you will encounter many, especially at night.

    Agáta2018-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. Perfect for having good rest ! In front of the sea, very nice beach, near restaurants and shops too. I recommend this place to all travellers !

    Vladimir2018-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • There are just two cabana under palms with direct beach access. The spot is walking distance from bars and restaurants but still very quiet and relaxing. The beach in front of the Bungalow is very nice and also not too busy. The Cabana is nice, very new and clean. All needed is available as discribed. The whole family took good care of us. For Breakfast you can choos from sever options, it was very good. If you want to stay in Hikkaduwa were it is nice and quiet, this is the place to be! Best value for money we had at a beach in Sri Lanka. Thanks for hosting us that well!!

    Angela2018-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great cabin by the sea. Beautiful location. Hosts we're welcoming and helpful and breakfasts we're very good.

  • It is a lovely cabana in a piece of jungle right at the beach. Every morning you Will enjoy a delicious breakfast with a view of the sea and squirrels :) Chutti and Kanchanas (and the rest of the family) do everything to make your time memorable. We would highly recommend staying here!

    Marielle2019-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • The beach cabana is a unique, authentic and brilliant place to stay. It had everything we needed and the hospitality offered was tremendous. Breakfast was catered for with gluten free needs and so this made things really easy for us. Thank you for having us!

  • My mother and I stayed at the beach side cabana for a week in December with the main purpose of surfing. The property is ideally situated about a 15 minute walk to the main surfing point. The beginner surfing area is slightly closer. Down at the point there are many hotels, restaurants and bars. It's very lively down at the point. Chutti and Kanchana's place, on the other hand, is very private and tranquil. We loved having a private tropical paradise with hammocks, lounge chairs and an thatch covered dining area shared by the guests in the other cabana. Our cabana had a patio with a personal dining area with fabulous ocean views. It is so picturesque that newlyweds were having wedding photos taken in front of the cabana, which made sense because it's the prettiest part of the entire beach. The cabana was well appointed with a desk and good sized refrigerator full of bottled water when we arrived. The bed was very comfy and had a frame with a very nice mosquito net. We ended up not using the mosquito net because the wall mounted fan created enough wind to keep the mosquitos away. The bathroom was spacious with a walk in shower. Everything was clean and well organized with room service mid-week. I can't say enough about the hospitality, from arranging a middle of the night airport pickup to coordinating daily trips to the local Ayurvedic clinic. They had great suggestions for many tantalizing excursions like a cinnamon plantation tour and kayaking on a lagoon. There are dozens of tour operators in the area and much to do. The suggestions that Chutti and Kanchana made were the best and most reasonably priced by far. The cabana is on one of the best walking beaches I've ever experienced. You can walk for miles in either direction. Surf and weather conditions were fabulous. I was expecting it to be quite hot but temperatures in the high 80s were accompanied by nice ocean breezes and an occasional refreshing afternoon shower. The waves at the point were consistently amazing - A framed peaks breaking left and right.

  • What an amazing place. So peaceful! A very rare hideout, hidden pearl. Super private. Only you, the garden (squirrels, birds), hammocks and the ocean. The family is super sweet and mama's food is delicious. The sisters always there to help. Tha cabin is clean, bathroom clean and a good bed. Absolutely don't doubt about staying there when you want to relax.

  • The location is easy walk - 10 mins from beach and railway station. Always felt safe. Rajeeve genuinely cares about happiness of guests. He lives nearby and will spend as much or little time with you as you want. He was kind enough to organize a breakfast on first day and the use of hotel facilities. The apartment / villa is large and AC in rooms great. Shop across road is useful. The Well in garden was fun to splash and cool down ... there's no pool as yet. All equipment including washing machine worked great. I will return ...

  • Rajeev and his brother are the perfect hosts. They're there when you need them and helpful with all requests. The villa is stunning and was perfect for us. Clean modern and comfortable beds. The beach is a short tuk tuk ride away and a couple small shops just outside the villa. We would recommend anyone who decides to visit Hikkaduwa to stay here.

    Ben2018-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • On arrival at the apartment we were greeted by Rajeev's wife with fresh coconut water and refreshing wet towels, which was a very nice touch. We were also given a fruit platter which lasted for the duration of our stay, and made for great fresh juice with the blender provided in the apartment. The apartment itself was very clean - in fact it was the nicest apartment that we've stayed in during our month in Sri Lanka. The apartment itself was only built within the last year, and still had a feeling of being quite new - with a stylish modern touch. It was also well located - about a 5-10 minute walk to Hikkaduwa Beach, or a quick 100-150 rupee tuk-tuk ride. We also found the little shop across the road useful for provisions; there is also a Cargills supermarket about 15 mins walk away if needed. Rajeev himself was a great host - he took us on a little tour of Hikkaduwa in his car, and was on hand to sort out any small requests that we had (extra power adaptors, replacement gas cylinders for the stove etc). The apartment has air conditioning in the two bedrooms, which we definitely needed in the heat of the afternoon. The large living room did have a tendency to get a bit hot (it has fans rather than aircon), but we found that opening doors and windows alleviated this for the most part. There is a small outdoor garden, and we were lucky enough to be entertained by some local wildlife (a monitor lizard and what we think was a mongoose!). All in all, a great apartment and we would very happily stay here again!

    Vassu2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great host and house! Very welcoming and showed us around Hikkaduwa when we got there. Would recommend!

    Danny2017-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very modern, clean and well presented property, a short walk or tuk-tuk ride to the beach, shops and restaurants. The current construction of a swimming pool restricts access to the garden at the current time, but in the future will be a great amenity.

    Nigel2018-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay and an amazing host who took care of all our needs and was always just a call away. Love the small touches that welcomed us to the apartment like providing snacks , welcome drinks and assistance whenever needed made the stay very pleasant. Our place was so comfy and cozy. The accommodation felt like a home away from from home. We are so glad we chose Rajeev’s place. The apartment is really close to the Hikkaduwa beach and many eating and shopping joints. Rajeev’s description regarding the accommodations and location were very accurate. The space was excellent and fit our needs perfectly. We would not hesitate to stay at Rajeev's in the future.

    Sahiba2017-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • It's exactly as it looks in the photos, and Rajeev is a great host.

    Nicolay2018-11-10T00:00:00Z

This is a great holiday apartment for a private and relaxing holiday. This apartment is located on first floor of sea facing property which has stunning view.
2 AC BR Private Sea View Apartment This is a two bedroom private apartment overlooking the Indian Ocean located on a first floor of beach front property. Each bedroom has an en suite bathroom and very comfortable beds for guests. The apartment has air conditioning rooms, modern baths with hot water showers, and a small but fully functional and lovely kitchen. Internet access through Wi-Fi and eight television channels in English. The large balcony where you can spend a good deal time, is a dining space and has additional seating in two conversation areas at either end of the space. There is an outdoor shower and foot bath when coming in off the beach. The balcony also overlooks its own walled-in yard with chaise longues for sun worshipers to watch the waves. The principle feature of this balcony though, is that it looks directly out on the waves braking on the reefs, giving the impression that you are looking out over the prow of a great ship on the Indian Ocean. Hikkaduwa area Information The beach of Hikkaduwa is situated 98 km from Colombo towards the south of Sri Lanka. This fun coastal town 14 kms from Galle was the first (1960's) of Sri Lanka's beautiful beaches to be discovered by tourists. Snorkeling and diving in the clear waters are the major past-time along this stretch and is the most environmentally friendly way to see the colorful fish that dart around. The coral sanctuary found on the coast of Hikkaduwa is a large shallow body of water enclosed by a reef, decorated with layers of multi colored corals, witch is home to countless number of colorful fish. Off the beach there is a collection of tine islets surrounded by beautiful coral formations. Many species of fish and large turtles are found here. There are more than four different shipwrecks for diving enthusiasts to explore along with dive shops offering PADI courses and equipment. Plenty of beachfront accommodation and a reputation as the second best surf spot in Sri Lanka by the international board-riding set, and the reason so many visit Hikkaduwa is blatantly clear. The resort area has now engulfed two or three villages south of it, and is now a 4km strip of hotels, shops, bars, restaurants and guesthouses. The beaches are nice and wide and swimming is safe here, though the currents are stronger south of Hikkaduwa proper. The impressive coral reef runs just offshore and is still populated by exotic fish and sea turtles. Glass bottomed boats are available for visitors wanting to admire the wonders of the deep while keeping their feet dry! After a shot distance southwards from the center of the reef, it diminishes given rise to a wider sandy bottomed beach with good waves ideal for board surfing and body surfing. You can always rent the necessary equipment needed for snorkeling and surfing. Hikkaduwa is an established tourist destination and the surfing there is quite well known. You won't see the Indonesian style overcrowding here though. The reef is coral so a first aid kit and booties are handy. Localism is usually not a problem though we have seen some tourists get some hassle. Respect them and they leave you alone pretty much. There are many shops selling Masks, Gems, Jewellery, Batik, Antiques and etc. along with several Buddhist temples, all which add spice to life at Hikkaduwa. Hikkaduwa Hikkaduwa: Eating and Drinking The Hikkaduwa area is well-served with good quality, local restaurants and a variety of night time venues. Hikkaduwa: Surfing and Diving Diving The diving at Hikkaduwa is diverse and there is an abundance of marine life and dive sites to suit all levels of experience. Big groupers, barracudas, moray eels, dogtooth tunas, manta rays, lobsters & turtles are often to be seen just off the coast at Hikkaduwa. A large number of wrecks have floundered off the coast in this area over the years, adding to the range of dive sites available. The diving season in the south west runs from November to April and there are a number of well-established diving centres from which to choose with Blue Deep being one of the best! Surfing - Hikkaduwa is a very well known surfing destination on the international circuit and annually attracts surfers from all over the world. There are plenty of good surfing points and although most of them are reef breaks, none of them is risky since they all have a flat deep bottom. The wave size ranges up to 3 metres during the season. The main point, known as the main reef has A-frame shaped waves, which can be surfed in both directions. Things to Do Beach Hikkaduwas beach is a haven for sun-seekers and is one of the most popular in Sri Lanka, with its idyllic white sands and swaying palms, lively beach bars and colourful coral reefs. Diving The waters around Hikkaduwa offer exceptional conditions for diving and snorkelling, and boast a stunning coral reef close to the shore and an excellent range of subtropical fish. There are PADI centres here, and divers can head out to explore the reef and the famous shipwrecks located off the coast. Water Sports As well as diving and surfing, Hikkaduwa and the neighbouring beach at Bentoto offer banana boat rides, windsurfing, jet-skiing, wakeboarding and waterskiing. Boat Trips Glass-bottomed boats run up and down the coastline, and offer great views of the coral reef here, whilst deep-sea fishing is are also available, as are whale-watching trips. Inland, there are boat trips through the mangrove forests available. Bikes & Scooter Rides The resort has facilities for bike and scooter rental - a great way to get out and see the resort and its surrounding areas. More adventurous visitors can head out to explore the nearby forests and the thick jungle terrain, full of local flora and fauna. Ayurvedic Treatments A holiday in Hikkaduwa offers a range of ayurvedic services, including massages, herbal baths and facials, and the various health spas, centres and hotels can create tailor-made treatment plans for visitors. Surfing The resort is a major surfing centre, and attracts many to its shores, thanks to the reliable surf seen here, especially during the main season from November to April. Trips & Excursions Trips to take include the Galagoda Temple, with its stunning hilltop views, and the local Hikkaduwa Lake, home to a range of interesting birdlife and a fresh-water fishing site. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Galle is an interesting trip, with its 17th century Dutch fort and cricket ground, as is the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project, the Yala National Park and the Kottowa Rainforest.
    An Exotic beach view
  • We’ve just spent four days staying in the exotic apartment right on the beach in Hikka. We had our own private access to the beach and a beautiful spacious, clean and modern two bedroom apartment. We were greeted by Isu upon arrival who was very professional and friendly. He helped organise everything we needed for our time there, including any transfers, and made us feel comfortable. All the staff involved were great! I would highly recommend using HikkaVillas if you are considering staying in Hikkaduwa.

  • The description was absolutely accurate. The location looks a bit dingy and loud but the house is clean and quiet. Very basic (particularly the kitchen) but the rooms are clean and the bathrooms are nice. It is a very short walk down to a lot of restaurants and bars and good swimming. The beach right behind the house is very dirty which is too bad but, again, easy swimming and cleaner beaches only a few minutes walk down. Host was wonderful and even let us stay in another of his properties on our last day as our flight out wasn't until late at night from Colombo.

  • Nice place off the main street, clean rooms and relaxing vibe.

    Ashleigh2016-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • The listing description is accurate. The apartment is exactly the way it looks on the website pics. The beach is just across and the sea view excellent. Both the rooms have cable TV and WiFi was excellent.

  • We stayed in the apartment for two weeks in March 2016 and we are very glad that chose this variant for the following reasons. First of all, this cozy place on the ocean where you can swim, sunbathe, and in the evenings enjoy sitting on the terrace of the sunset and sound of the surf. What else you need? :) There was everything for a comfortable stay. Has its own kitchen, barbecue. You can always buy at the market or supermarket food and cook it yourself if you are tired from curry:) We went to a café only a few times, the rest of the time preparing ourselves, because in two minutes walk there is a vegetable and fish market where you can buy a variety of fresh fish (whole or steaks), shrimps, squid, etc. By the way, at the early morning work wholesale market at the pier, the entrance for tourists RS 100, and the prices are almost the same as on retail, so buy there is no sense, just except to visit for interest:) Really convenient location. In walking distance all fun activities, shops, markets, banks, rental scooters and cars, fishing, boat trips. Separately want to say about the staff. Very friendly and caring people who will always help and will take care that your vacation was perfect. When booking we were immediately offered a shuttle service (the prices are comparable to taxis, but the bus is more comfortable). By the way, at the airport when you exit from the arrivals area, to get back you will need to pay RS 300, note. Upon arrival we were met Chanaka, he showed us everything and answered our questions, also left a phone number to contact at any time. He can also rent a car or scooter, tours. We understood, that the owner care its reputation, so you don't have to worry about service and safety. For us everything was perfect. In general, we recommend the apartments, you will not regret. Good luck!

  • We had a good experience at our stay in the apartment. The apartment are located just outside the resort area at the beach, but still in central Hikkaduwa town. Turtles are swimming and eating just outside the apartment, and you can watch them from the terrace. We was not recommended to swim at the beach just outside, because of corales and big wawes. It's only 300 meters to a good part of the beach.

  • We don't know when the pictures in this offer on AirBnB have been taken but this clearly does NOT reflect what it is in real life. We are no demanding customers at all, but this experience was clearly disappointing and started off our vacations quite sadly. The "house" is situated in a very dark sideway in Hikkaduwa city on top of an medical institution with creepy neighbours that are starring at you the whole day and standing INSIDE the garden or outside at the fence. The "garden" is a brown, scruffy spot of earth surrounded by concrete damn on two sides only so everybody waiting in front of the doctors room (whis is on the same floor) can see you apart from the already always present "neighbours" standing in front of the fence starring at you. The "private beach" is a 3m long /1m wide public area full of waste so you cannot sit there at all. We had to walk 2 km south to find a beach which was not wasted so we could sit there at least. In general the neighbourhood is very noisy, dirty and partly destroyed. Due to the constant presence of dubious people in or surrounding the garden we could hardly sleep. Not a comfy place to relax. The bedroom and bathroom itself was okay though. What surprised us was the fact that the owners told us on site that the costs for electricity have to be paid in addition which was not stated in their ad on AirBnB and was way too expensive (nearly as much as we've paid for the rent of the apartment). This place is a real touris trap and is way too expensive in comparison to other places we've visited in Sri Lanka later on. Don't let yourself be distracted by the beautiful pictures in this ad !!

  • The apt is stunning really well finished , lovely to relax away from the madness of the street and good to relax in the heat of the day. I love the alfresco kitchen , it's so cute . The beach isn't the greatest directly outside, but it's a lovely walk up the beach past the coral reef . It's still stunning to sit and watch the waves. The apartment is 200 meters from the railway tip its right next to hikkadua clinic / pharmacy . The people in there are lovely and the host staff came immediately to let us in out of the heat . You also have a lovely gent who works security at night . Beautiful place , I'd certainly go back . Thank you kindly

Welcome to our villa comprising a spacious bathroom, bed room and a large living room. Beach is just 1 minute away by walking. You will have total privacy to live with your friends & family. Good Day :)
Asela Villa is spacious. We have space for up to 6 people. Total ground space expands up to 800 sq ft.
We are located in famous Hikkaduwa, on the beach side. famous restaurants, bars, nigh spots, jewelery shops, souvenir shops, bike renting etc etc is within a walking distance!
  • Asela was a great host there was almost always someone at the Villa to provide information and assistance. I blocked the shower drain by bringing to much sand back from the beach. Asela quickly solved the issue and did not complain even though I created the problem. It is only a 2 minute walk to the beach from the villa. There is a tuk-tuk stand within 50 meters of the villa in case you want to go to town. There are restaurants and stores within 50 meters so everything is close by. The house has a camera system and multiple locks in place and I always felt my things were secure. The kitchen is a basic kitchen, but had everything we needed to cook at home when desired. There is a road that runs right by the villa so there is some road noise during the day, but the traffic dies off around 8 PM. Thanks for being a great host Asela.

  • The family who run this place seem very lovely and willing to help you with anything you need, which is nice. However our experience wasn't exactly as we had imagined. The pictures look as though there is a separate apartment which you have to yourselves, but there is a large staircase, shared balcony and no wall separation into the "condo". Therefore we experienced various members of the family and some guests, walking through the "living room" from early morning until we went to bed. This was a slight shock as in the description, it is stated that you will receive "privacy". We didn't receive much! We felt a little confined to the room, although it seemed a bit unfair as we had booked, what we thought, was the whole place. I think the apartment is still undergoing a lot of work as there were quite a few loose wires and wooden floorboards where you could see straight downstairs. One day, we saw the grandmother just walking around the living room and somebody was using our "private" bathroom. We didn't feel very comfortable just relaxing here as we often heard the business downstairs, TV, etc. Perhaps in a few months when the property is fully complete and proper boundaries have been put into place, this would be a nice place to come as the location is good (busy main road but minutes to the beach) and is in the main strip of Hikkauwa. Overall, I feel we were slightly overcharged for what ended up as only one room where we had total privacy. This did not have an apartment feel at all. Best of luck in the future.

  • I had a wonderful stay at Asela Villa. The communication prior to my stay was excellent, as was it during my stay. There were no issues with my pick-up or drop-off either. Everything was very easy to coordinate. The villa was just as pictured. It was a private room and bathroom, with a private entrance where I could come and go any time I wanted. I felt like I had plenty of privacy. The location was less than a 2 minute walk from the beach with lots of restaurants, bars, and shops in the area. The larger city of Galle was also nearby and could be reached by a short tuk-tuk or taxi ride. As I was there to relax, I did spend most of my time in the smaller town surroundin Asela Villa. The restaurants and bars were all reasonably priced and there was a small mini mart across the street. I would recommend staying here for future visitors as well.

  • Asela Villa turned out to be the perfect place for stay at HikkaDuwa. He gave his complete first floor consisting of 3 rooms to us! 2 of them come with attach and clean Washrooms. Nice beds and working AC's with clean rooms made the stay comfortable. Best part - Beach is only 50 meters away from this place. Also, Asela helped us plan activites for 3 days which include sights like UnaWatuna, Bentota and Galle. Also, he gave us 2 scooters also on rent at very affordable prices. I would like to recommend this place to anybody who is looking to spend their time at HikkaDuwa and our looking for a place with utmost cleanliness and Privacy. P.S - Asela has a backyard with 4 coconut trees and he also offers fresh coconut Water to his host

  • Very nice home stay run by a kind and generous family. They cooked us an amazing Sri Lankan dinner and were very helpful. Rooms were clean and in a good location. Short walk to the beach and local shops.

  • We had a fantastic stay with Asela. The host was very accommodating and helpful right since the timing of confirmation of booking, through the days leading up to the stay and throughout our stay at the property. From arranging for cab pick-up/drops to renting scooters/cycles (at extremely affordable prices) to suggesting and arranging for interesting and unique activities (for instance, going around a nearby lagoon on a rustic catamaran) to do around Hikkaduwa. The property itself is a very clean and well maintained one. A stones throw away from the beach, and pretty close to several good restros and shacks! There is a private entrance to the upper part of the villa which was given to us, all rooms good air conditioning, locks and keys and its an overall safe and warm environment that this family has created for all guests! The hosts were always welcoming and friendly - something that was punctuated by gestures like a welcome fresh coconut water drink (from the backyard) and a farewell home-made, Sri Lankan breakfast! We recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable and pleasant stay in Hikkaduwa

  • At first we thought we have a whole house, but it's not, there are some other people. But it is ok. Asela is a very kind person,he borrowed his kitchen to us, and cooked fish for us,the last day we left,he drived us to the railway station.

Mangrovia Bungalow is a totally unique resort and garden, set upon a beautiful tropical lake - just minutes from the gleaming white sands of Hikkaduwa Beach. You'll stay in a comfortable room in a garden setting that is quiet and private. Chef and Owner, Madhu is your host and can arrange anything you might need. Mangrovia is also a well known Italian Restaurant and you'll be able to book your table with Madhu. If you are travelling as a group of 4, there is an option to book both rooms.
The room is custom designed with hardwood furnishings, comfortable king size bed, premium linens and a spacious en suite bathroom and amenities. There is a veranda to relax outside, read a book or just wander around the gardens, lagoon and rural surroundings. Your private view consists of the "tropical jungle" and lovely lagoon.
Mangrovia sits on a stunning lake surrounded by mangroves and tropical foliage. Eagles, egrets and water animals can be seen regularly-it's ideal for nature lovers. There are no motor boats allowed so the atmosphere is calm and quiet. Just outside our gates is rural Sri Lanka with its rice paddy fields, water buffalo and friendly people. We are tucked away in a jungle area but very close to the activity in Hikkaduwa and Galle Fort so you can get the best of both worlds. This part of the south coast is known for its surf and other watersports in High season and we will happily help you book lessons/hire boards etc.
  • We stayed for 6 nights with Madhu and didn’t want to leave. Our stay was nothing but comfortable, beautiful and peaceful. The location at the lake is truly magical and far away from the noisy roads and busy Centre. But still easy to get around, it only took 10min scooter ride to the beach. Madhu and her family are such kind and lovely hosts and they made us feel very welcome. Last but not least, the food!!!! Madhu is a passionate chef and her meals are one of a kind and you can taste the love! She made homemade Italian pasta and dishes everyday and spoilt us with the best Sri Lankan curries! If you are looking for a beautiful, quiet place right in the middle of nature - look no further! We can’t wait to come back! One of the best Airbnb experiences we had so far! Thank you Madhu :) all the best, Claudia

    Claudia2018-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for three nights at Madhu's place. What an relaxing experience that was! The bed is superb, and the bathroom very well designed and super clean. There's no WiFi, but if you need some on-grid time: buy a Sri Lankan simcard cheap and problem solved. The view over the lake is amazing, and watching the land monitors and bald eagles in the sunrise while having breakfast make it even more special. Madhu & her husband are so kind, and Madhu is a great cook! It is a bit off the beaten track, but so serene and beautiful. It will take you 10 to 15 minutes in a tuc or scooter to reach the centre of Hikkaduwa. We definitely recommend this gem.

    Timo2019-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Madhu is great! She was so helpful in very question we had. We had a wonderful stay at her place. Her house and the room are lovely. We had dinner twice at her place because it was so so good! I totally recommend staying there. It was the best desicion, even if it's not close to the beach. You can enjoy perfectly the quiet atmosphere at the lagoon.

    Irina2018-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a piece of heaven! The rooms are beautifully designed Very calm nature exactly on the lagoon where you can unwind just perfectly They own a beautiful restaurant and Madhu cooks a great food. Even if you’re not staying at her place. I think dining there is a must to see the beauty of hikkaduwa They are great hosts and very friendly It’s a bit far from the center, you need a tuck tuck to reach it

  • Madhu’s place is wonderful. We have spent three nights there enjoying the peaceful surroundings, relaxing by the lake and listening to the sound of birds. Also, the food was delicious. If you are after a more tranquil place, this is ideal, away from the busy roads of Hikkaduwa.

  • Mangrovia is high quality accommodation set in the jungle about 10 minutes’ tuk tuk ride from Hikkaduwa town centre. The room itself was excellent, both stylish and spacious. Despite it being in the jungle, we had no issues with insects and the room temperature was perfect. The views across the lagoon are especially amazing - it’s a great place to watch wildlife and local people using the water. Madhu and her family were very accommodating and someone was always around to answer any questions. They happily arranged all our tuk tuks into town as well as our taxi back to the airport. They were also full of helpful tips - ask about the best snorkelling spot on Hikkaduwa Beach! Thanks again to Madhu and family for letting us stay.

  • Madhus place is simply amazing! My boyfriend and I had such a relaxing time there and Madhu and her husband were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Beautiful location on a lake and a wonderful room. If you stay (which I recommend you do!) make sure you eat in Madhus restaurant — the best homemade rice and curry we had with fresh prawns from the lake! Thanks Madhu.
