Private Modern Guesthouse near Mulholland Drive

A free standing 500 sq/ft 1 bedroom rustic Spanish split level guest house with private entrance, manicured terraced landscaping and a spacious light filled interior with all the modern amenities. The open plan living space contains a fully equipped efficiency kitchen with chef's range, stainless steel under-counter refrigerator, marble countertops, imported tile, and a contemporary living area with convertible sleeping sofa for additional accommodation, eating/working island, and entertainment center containing 33" tv with DirecTV, Netflix, and high speed wifi. The lower split level contains a custom tiled bathroom with heated floors, large shower, and a floor to ceiling mirror. A separate bedroom area with large closet and deluxe queen size mattress provides additional comfort and privacy from the main living area. The guest house has central heating and air conditioning for desired temperature comfort. Fresh towels, linen and bedding is provided, and new and vintage furnishings, original artwork, books and objects have been selected by the architect/owner for guest's enjoyment. Non metered City street parking is almost always available directly in front of the guest house. Complimentary Peet's coffee, a selection of teas, and bottled filtered and mineral water are provided by the host for guest's enjoyment. Guests have direct access to the guest house through the front garden gate and up a small flight of stairs. Host will provide guests with keys upon arrival. Guests enter and exit the guest house through a private entrance. Flanking the staircase is a small outdoor area with seating for guest's private use. After initial meeting and key exchange with host, the guest house is all yours for your enjoyment. Hosts live in the main house behind the guest house and you are more than welcome to say hello or to contact us if you have any questions or need anything for your stay. Laurel Canyon offers dynamic city life and bohemian rural charm, just a short drive from art institutions, studios, restaurants, and nightlife. Get out in the fresh air on Hollywood Hills hiking trails and enjoy panoramic views of the entire city. A local bus stop is just around the corner, but this being LA, a car is recommended. Uber and Lyft are popular taxi alternatives and are available at the guest house within minutes. While we are confident you'll find staying at our accommodations relaxing and utterly enjoyable, we must confess this is not a tucked-away bucolic country cottage, but a private contemporary urban experience situated between LA's dynamic city life and its bohemian rural charms on Laurel Canyon Blvd. Although we constructed the guest cottage with double thick insulated walls and double pained windows to mediate exterior temperature and noise, the cottage faces the boulevard and intermittent traffic noise might be of concern to some sound sensitive guests.

Casa Carmona, a Mid-City Garden Oasis near Museums

Casa Carmona is a little oasis in the big city. It's convenient to just about anywhere you would want to visit while in Los Angeles. Private entrance allows you to come and go as you please. Very diverse selection of restaurants and there is a 7-11 as well as a small grocery store (that delivers) less than a block away if you would rather eat in. Laundromat and dry cleaners are one block away which is helpful for longer stays. Street parking is available. Convenient to public transportation. Full access to the guest house and the backyard area including lounge chairs and dining table. I live in the adjacent house so am able to offer help during guest's stay. I love meeting my guests from all over the world but respect your privacy and comfort! Casa Carmona sits behind a charming Spanish house in Wilshire Vista, a neighborhood created in the 1920s. This is a diverse and safe area, within walking distance of Museum Row and the Grove. Plenty of free parking is available. Approximately half my guests rent a car and there is unrestricted street parking available except for street cleaning on Tuesday afternoons. The other half of my guests rely on Uber and Lyft which are always available within minutes. There is plentiful public transportation within walking distance. One bus stop is less than a block away on one major street and another the opposite direction a block and a half from the house. There is also a Zip Car location less than a block away. The main bed is full size. The pullout sofa is twin bed. There is a small fridge/freezer, microwave oven, 2 burner electric cooktop, and George Forman grill for cooking. Also have a Keurig for coffee and electric tea kettle and assortment of teas. There is a end table that is gate-leg so can be used for in-room dining. Folding chairs in closet as well as extra folding table in closet. Hair dryer in bathroom. Plenty of closet space. Two luggage racks. Iron is provided. I also provide a beach blanket, tote and towels for excursions to the beach. For relaxation time at the Casa there are plentiful entertainment options including Amazon Echo, TV with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, many movies, PlayStation and several board games with even more available upon request!

Your guide to West Hollywood

All About West Hollywood

With the Hollywood Hills to the north and Beverly Hills to the west, the district of West Hollywood covers an area of around four square miles of Los Angeles, including one of the most famous stretches of road in the country, the Sunset Strip. Colourful advertising billboards line the 1.5-mile strip, which is home to famous nightlife venues, comedy clubs, and shops. West Hollywood, or WeHo as it’s sometimes called, is also known for its thriving LGBTQ community, and was one of the first cities to have a rainbow crosswalk celebrating this connection. You’ll find many inclusive venues along Route 66/Santa Monica Boulevard, which runs right through the city.

West Hollywood is a hub of creative industries, embodied by the striking blue glass exterior of the Pacific Design Center and the smooth curves of the West Hollywood Library. People also come here to browse the high-end boutiques along Melrose Avenue and the West Hollywood Design District.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in West Hollywood

West Hollywood boasts very hot, dry summers, with hardly any rainfall between April and November. The busiest time of year here is from June to August, which is when temperatures are at their highest. One of the main events in the calendar here is the LA Pride Parade & Festival at the beginning of June, which is marked by a colourful procession through the streets and live music.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable months to visit, with balmy temperatures and sunny days. The city also plays host to the spectacular Halloween Carnaval along Santa Monica Boulevard, which features crowds of people in eye-catching costumes, with around 500,000 people attending. Winters in West Hollywood are cool and wet.

Top things to do in West Hollywood

Los Angeles County Museum of Art

Just south of West Hollywood is one of the largest museums in the United States, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). There’s a striking display of more than 200 vintage LA street lamps before you even enter the building to explore an enviable selection of artworks as well as sculptures from Ancient Greece and Rome and forward-looking, modern pieces.

Schindler House

Surrounded by bamboo trees just two blocks from Santa Monica Boulevard, the Schindler House offers a glimpse into experimental architecture from the 1920s. The building showcases revolutionary design that uses industrial materials, including concrete, in a style that became known as Southern California Modernism. It is now home to the Mak Center for Art and Architecture, home to experimental artworks, lectures, and theatre screenings.

Runyon Canyon

Head above the city streets for a scenic hike in the Hollywood Hills at Runyon Canyon Park, less than 15 minutes north of West Hollywood. This 160-acre park features three main trails with different lengths and degrees of difficulty along paved or rugged terrain. As you reach the high point of the park, you can take in views over the city of Los Angeles and across to the famous Hollywood Sign.
