Dive Spot
“The Kapoho Tide Pools, about one hour away from Volcano, are one of the most amazing places to snorkel on the Big Island. To find them use your GPS (Google or Apple). It will take you to a private road (Kapoho Kai Drive) where signage will direct you where to park. Then take a 5 to 10 minute flat stroll through a beautiful neighborhood until you hit some trees and a trail leading to the water. The pools are incredible - they are crystal clear and there is a remarkable diversity of sea life for you to explore. Please consider wearing a reef friendly sunscreen - the sea life will thank you for it! ”

“This is one of best tide pools on the Big Island and offers some of the best snorkeling around. If you're headed toward Hilo and want to get in the water, this is a must see!”

“Champagne Pond is delightful! It's a 4-wheel drive road, or walk by the ocean to get there. It's worth it! (Waiopae Road is a private road, but the pond is not.)”

“Off the beaten path, but still well known, though rarely crowded. These tidepools are great for swimming, snorkeling, and picnicking. No bathrooms or showers like the beach parks all over the state, but you will love the underwater views. It's like swimming in an aquarium, huge tropical fish. You can find a secluded spot if you're willing to walk a bit (on the right hand side of the pools, past the tiny trees) ”

“Drive leading to the Waiopae Tidepools Marine Life Conservation District. Wonderful place to snorkel and view live coral and tropical fish in shallow, interconnected, coastal saltwater tide pools.”

“The Waiopae Tide Pools have some of the best snorkeling on the Big Island. Last week there was a monk seal my friends saw while swimming! This weekend we had a whale right outside the surf break! ”
