“A really funky place, lots of quirky art and little art shops all through a garden - then with a cafe to sit and have a coffee. The food isn't exceptional but the coffee is nice and the scenery is GREAT!!”

Natural Feature
“We live only minutes away from this amazing bay. In summer its the best place to swim, paddleboard and kayak. It is also great to just take a blanket and a book down there to chill. Remember to take sand fly repellent and in summer an unbrella is a added bonus. There is also the famous W2K track that starts here for both walking and mountain biking.”

“Lovely family run restaurant. Maggie and Glen offer a fine variety of culinary surprises - our favourite - freshly poached trout (but you have to catch it and take to Glen to cook it !!) ”

Historic Site
“These spectacular carvings rise straight out of the crystal clear waters of Lake Taupo. Accessed by water but there are cheap tour options from the Taupo Boat Harbour. I like to tell people that the carvings date from ancient times but in fact they were carved only about 30 years ago by master Maori craftsmen.”

“Park your car at the Rangatira Point Track. It is an easy walk that winds through native bush along the lake edge to Whakamoenga Point, offering fantastic views and great picnic, swimming and fishing spots. My favourite spot for a sundowner and a little picnic.”

“One of the best local mountain bike rides around and the start of the infamous Great Lake Trail (Whakaipo to Kinloch W2K). From here you can ride to Kinloch through native bush with amazing views of Lake Taupo. Include the Headland loop for the best views ever adding an awesome 10 km's of trail to your ride.”
