Just booked in Kitami

We are at country site surrounded by potato fields. You can stay at self-builded straw bale house. We have two singl beds, and very simple cooking facilities, toaster, microwave oven and a refrigerator.
Our house is made by natural materials. That's so gentle to the earth. It is old native American style construction. Everything is hand made! We focused to cozy and comfortable life and relax atmosphere. But sad to say, this house is built beside of main road. Sometime big tracks would be passing, and that may cause vibrations a bit in the house. At night time traffic is much more quiet. I'm sorry if that would disturb your peaceful time.
Our location is very country side. Very wide landscape, and view of Shiretoko mountains. If you like climbing, 40 minutes to Mt. Shari, 30 minutes to Mt. Mokoto, or 1 hour to Shiretoko by car. If you like fishing , 20 minutes to Shari shore for salmon fish. There is no shops in walking distance. But we can take you where you will need if you don't have a car.
  • Staying at Tida House in Shari-gun was one of the highlights of my time in Hokkaido. Yuya is an exceptionally talented craftsman. His imagination is vividly on display in the many captivating handmade details that you will see. I felt that I was constantly smiling when I was in or near the house! Yuya and his family made me feel immediately welcome. They were so generous with their time and energy and it was a real pleasure to spend time with them. This location is a great base to explore Shiretoko, Kussharo Lake and the rolling countryside that surrounds the house. I truly hope to return here.

  • This house, this family, this town! Such an amazing experience! Yuya built this house with his own two hands and it is absolutely amazing. Artwork, hidden marble games through the walls, beautiful woodwork. And their dog is so nice! A wonderful family to stay with. I hope to see them again!

  • I can give only 3 stars to this accommodation, because of the location and the furniture. Please see below for reasons, but I canNOT recommend this house for a stay. So first the good things. I really admire Yuya for building this house, designing it, crafting every piece of it by hand. It is a very cute little house and really each detail, down to the light switch is carved manually and within a general design pattern of the house, as you can appreciate from the pictures. Also check-in with his mother was easy. HOWEVER, there are two negative aspects of the house. One might be a more personal point, but the second I don't find anything to discuss about. Some previous reviewers already mentioned that the house is on a "highway". Well, technically speaking its not a highway, but it's a street with considerable traffic and also a lot of trucks. While it is true that at night (between maybe 21:00 to 5:00) traffic is low, it starts to pick up after 5 am. The problem is not only the noise, but the vibrations. I don't know if this is due to how this house was build, but each time a truck passes on the street the entire house shakes as in a grade 3 earthquake, with plates and everything ringing. Well, that is simply not a place where you would like to sleep. At least not a place where I would like to sleep. We got something like a mini earthquake every 2 - 3 minutes... Apart from the road outside (just check out (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps for the crossing between 334 and 250 roads) this exact spot of Hokkaido is not the most beautiful, as some industry is just besides. The second major problem for us was the furniture. While it is all lovingly handmade (and as said, I admire Yuya for this), there is no chair/table in the hight of a normal chair / table. All is very low, but at the same moment it is not like a tatami room, where you would sit directly on the tatami with your kotatsu. Even the nice balcony area outside has only low sitting and low table. For us this was simply inconvenient. But as said, this is a personal preference. Overall, unfortunately I canNOT recommend this place ,because of the location. Yuya is apparently currently building a new place somewhere closer to Shiretoko. If he has chosen a more secluded area, that new house is definitely something to check out. Obviously the furniture problem might persist there, but you might not worry so much about that.

    Susanne2017-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Yuya's handmade strawbale house is a fantastic place. In the inside of this house, it is full of Nanyang (南洋) style but has a warm heater. If you also love doggy, his dog, Chai, is a cute and smart pet.

    Wesley2015-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Best Airbnb experience that we have had (this is our third trip). Home is clean and beautiful with a unique design lots of wonderful handmade decorations. Not to mention the house itself was completely built from scratch by the host and his friends over the course of a year. Yuya was really welcoming and gave us a lot of travel advice. We were also invited to a BBQ with Yuya and his friends who were building another guesthouse nearby, and he introduced us to them. One of them was a weekend baker and we bought some really delicious bread from her. The location is a bit far away if you do not have a rental car. But if you do have a car it is a great location to stay as it is a short drive to a the main sightseeing areas in Eastern Hokkaido. Its around a 2h drive to Abashiri, Shiretoko, and Akan National Park. Wonderful place to stay and we definitely plan on returning! Would recommend to anyone.

    Arthur2016-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful experience! Yuya has built the entire home from the ground up with his hands - it's like something out of a fairytale! The home still comes stocked with basic amenities like heating, bathroom, shower, laundry, cooking supplies as well. He went above and beyond in terms of helping us navigate the area - supplied us with relevant guidebooks and helped us plan a bus itinerary so we saw everything we wanted to see in Shiretoko. He also invited us to a traditional Japanese potluck party he was having with his friends in the area where they cooked a full lamb along with a huge amount of other delicious food. This is a once-in-a-lifetime Airbnb and is definitely worth the cost and the trek to northern Hokkaido. I hope to come back someday soon!

  • A nice cozy house. Owner is very helpful and responsive.

    Susie2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • This "secret place" is amazing! It has a soul. I was totally moved by the picture hanging on the beam that features Yuya and his buddies buidling the house. I enjoyed reading the books on the shelf, while sitting beside the warm fireplace. It was an exceptional experience. I also enjoyed talking with Yuya. We both love traveling, photography, and Miyazaki Hayao. Now he is building a "天空の城ラピュタ" in the mountain. I will definitely visit there, hopefully in next summer!

A 9-minute walk from JR Kitami Station A simple Japanese-style room with a good location with a 7-minute walk to downtown Kitami City. Convenience stores and coin-operated laundries are also nearby. There is one parking lot for one car. In addition, air conditioning and heating are equipped and you can spend comfortably.
There is a direct bus from the Kitami-station to the Akan-lake
It is a quiet residential area. Kitami City is famous for the city of yakiniku but there are many other delicious shops. As a means of transportation in the East Hokkaido, Abashiri, Monbetsu and Shari and Shiretoko can go on a one-day trip.
  • Was a very pleasant stay for a great price! The facilities were brilliant and Hiroyuki's communication was extremely helpful and informative throughout our stay. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

  • A good sized comfortable flat, teen minutes walk to the station and shops.

  • I went to Kitami for my work. So, I booked his room because we are Airbnb host friends :) I was looking forward to staying his room very much. His room is so nice and cleanly. The bed is comfortable, I was able to sleep well. It’s located about 10 minutes on foot from the Kitami station. And there is a free parking in front of the room. It's so convenient. Hiro is a great host as I had imagined. Polite, kind, very fun person! I recommend his room!

  • Thanks Hiro for the comfortable stay. The apartment is big for Japanese standards. Good for traveling with young children. We were traveling with a one year old baby and he had ample space to walk around without many things getting in his way. Place is new, neat and tidy. Has all the basic amenities, including an induction cooker and microwave. Free parking if you are traveling to Kitami. Communication with host is good. He is always responsive and clear. Instructions to his place is also clear with photos and captions included.

About 30 minutes by car from Memanbetsu Airport. Our house is built along with "the road of excitement" and you can see the beautiful scenery of countryside, Shiretoko mountains, and the Sea of Okhotsk from the windows.
Guest room has two rooms of the first floor (about 6 Pledge) and second floor (about 9 Pledge). There are 4 sets of bedding (mattress + futon) . The first floor can accommodate up to 1-2 people, and 2nd floor is 1-4 people. The bathroom and the washroom are located on the first floor. You can enjoy the table tennis on the 2nd floor. (There is the folding table tennis for home.)
Our house stands on land that opened up the forests of rural areas. If you are lucky, you might be able to watch wild animals such as wild birds, foxes, squirreles, field mice, deer and snakes. Weather permitting, you can enjoy the photogenic view of Okhotsk.
  • Kyoko is a wonderful host. The accommodation is perfect. You have a separate part of her beautiful house, with own bathroom. Additionally you can meet with her family in the common area if you like. All is spotless clean. The included breakfast is great. Also we would recommend to book dinner. Kyoko considers all your eating needs, for us she cooked vegan! We can only recommend to stay with Kyoko and her family.

    Tim2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • The host Kyoko is a very very nice lady. Together with her children, they had given us a very memorable and wonderful experience staying in a Japanese home. She is very accommodating. On our first night of arrival, we did not give her notice that we needed dinner. We arrived around 6pm+. But she is very kind to still prepare dinner for us within an hour.  The dinner was sumptuous, a japanese traditional home cooked food. We really appreciate as it gave us a warm welcome in a cold cold night. Homestay includes breakfast. And they were equally awesome ! Kyoko also gave us many advice re the places we can visit. She even helped to call and make bookings for us. With her help, we managed to visit Asparagus farm, Horse trekking etc. Another unexpected experience was a visit arranged to her neighbour's farm which rear cows. We would highly recommend her home as a choice of stay.

  • kyoko helped me to make a schedule of my hokkaido trip before departure many times. so i expected to meet the very kind host, kyoko. her house was very clean and cosy as given information in airbnb site. and we could share a living room and kitchen combined. in there, we can have dinner and breakfast with her and her sons. further, my sons enjoyed video game and played together with her sons in there. her support was very kind and helpful to us, we were sorry to have to say goodbye. she is the best host, all i met. if i will visit abashiri, hokkaido, i wiil stay her house of course.

    Kyungjin2016-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed two nights in Kyoko's home in the middle of July. Kyoko, the host provide quite spacious room divided with host room so that you could take your own time in silence. Her family introduced me lots of courses for sightseeing around Abashiri as soon as I asked and actually brought me some places I wanted to go with her adorable kids during my stay. I believe we spent such unforgettable time together. You would find the best hospitality never imagined in the north edge of Japan island. Don't miss their peaceful house making your heart warm if you have an opportunity to stay around Abashiri. Kyoko-san, I will be right back soon. Thanks so much for your kindness and precious moments with your family.

    Ryuichi2016-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Kyoko is the friendliest host I've encountered so far from my many Airbnb stays in Japan. She made sure she was there to welcome us and sat down for breakfast with us. Her house is amazing, with a very nice view of the fields. :)

    Huiyi2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Kyoko and her family were fantastic hosts. The house was like a log cabin and we loved the use of wood throughout. The place is neat, tidy and clean before we arrived ^_^ This is only the second Airbnb we have stayed but we have tried other Bnb outside Airbnb before and this was a really good one weighing alternative accommodation that we could have gone for. Kyoko gave us great recommendations for food (we tried V good abashiri beef - better than recent Kobe beef!) and even stayed up to wait for us because we were late and had made me a really delicious birthday cake which was a surprise! My family really enjoyed our stay and in fact I feel apologetic as my three kids were constantly running around the place, swinging on the hammock and even used Mr Kyoko as a trampoline. He's really warm and accommodating as well. We made a snowman with Shin and Kai - just outside the house and it was really memorable. There were also some tracks in the snow from the foxes that live in the woods just in front of the house. Kyoko put lots of thought into our breakfasts and even dinner. I would definitely return when we come back to Abashiri and Shiretoko again.

    Amber2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Kyoko was wonderful. After a long week of road trips, in and out of hotels, it was nice to stay in a home that felt warm and welcoming such as this one. Kyoko's house was beautiful and very well designed such that provided enough privacy for guests (not to mention an amazing view) while having easy access to the living room and the kitchen. We had breakfast and dinner with the family and Kyoko's cooking was fabulous! Her boys were very sweet and invited us to join them for an evening of playing a 1993 nintendo baseball game. We had so much fun! Staying with Kyoko was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Not to mention Kyoko was super helpful in recommending places, checking in regularly, and helping us with directions. Thank you, Kyoko!! Highly recommended =)

    Sandra2016-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Feel like another home on the planet....Kyoko is so kind, resourceful, lovely and gentle woman...From the planning stage to the implementation stage, she gave a lot useful information to us, as well as provide information on an local guide, Mr Tanaka, to gave us a spectacular and unique tour around Shiretoko area, including take us to a very local restaurant..The night before we leave Abashiri, Kyoko took us and her two adorable kids to the onsen, and we had a great time there. It's so sad to say bye, given their hospitality and lovely personalities, we would definitely come back in winter time.

  • We had a nice stay at Mayumi's. Her home is lovely and comfy and the bedroom was cosy and quite large. Mayumi was really helpful and took us to the Onsen, and we had great discussion about Japan. Plus the area is a wonder to hike.

  • They are really kind and cool. If you have a car, it will be best choice to travel akan area. This time make akan one of best place in hokkaido for me.

    SooYoung2017-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • It was a pleasant stay at Mayumis' house. It is a nice individual building on the edge of the small town, with occasional appearance of deers and foxes after the sunset. The room is at left hand upstairs, which is best place for couple. U can have everything need as in a hotel except the dinning. The washing with bath and laundry is so convenient to the guest however we didn't use. Mayumi provided pick up from town to house and to the onnsan where y should must try including the outdoor onnsan and edge less pool on the roof top. Upon the availability, her husband will dive you to lake Ontorh which contain breathless view of the mountains and colorful pond. We spent two nights with a great host by those kind couple.

    jennifer2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Had a very nice stay at Mayumi's place. The house is located on a nice and quite street, within walking distance to lake Akan and the town. You can also borrow a bike from Mayumi and ride to town or other places you might want to visit which is nice. The room was very clean and comfortable. Mayumi was also very nice and friendly, speaks good English, and is easy to communicate with. Strongly recommended.

  • A wonderful cabin and hostess is so kind and helped us a lot.the cabin is so lovely, and we see Deers, cranes and many other animals.and you can ride a horse on the farm nearby. You 'd better have a experience at here yourself.

  • This is a lovely cabin set in a rural location surrounded by dairy farms and forest. The cabin is well maintained and is next to a very quiet road - the nearest building is around 1km away. However there are shops within 15 minutes drive. The cabin is in a good location to visit the Akan National Park and the Kushiro area. If the skies are clear you will have a fabulous view of the night sky.

  • This cabin was located in the quiet area in the surrounding of Kushiro city. This cabin is very suitable for the family's travel to Kushiro. The lord of this cabin are very warm and hostile to the guests. We feel this traveling experience is unforgettable.

  • We had a nice time at Hiroya-san's cottage. It's located in a beautiful place, surrounded by dairy farms. The night sky is absolutely amazing from the cottage.

  • This is a really lovely little cabin in the woods. The host is wonderful - she lives just down the road, and was very helpful with check-in and advice about the area. The cabin is surprisingly well furnished - beds and comfy futons for our family of 4, coffee maker, TV, wifi, washing machine, hotplate, hot water kettle, dishes, etc. The location is a bit remote - but very peaceful, surrounded by forests and fields of wildflowers. It was just the sort of quiet, relaxing place we were seeking. Also, there's a lot of wildlife in the area - so many deer (which we could hear "squeaking" in the woods, foxes, tanuki, lots of birdlife and we saw several Red-crowned cranes, even though we visited in the summer (off-season for cranes). It's a very easy drive to the marshes and national park in Kushiro, as well as to Lake Akan. The only challenge is that navigation systems had a little trouble finding a signal sometimes - and if you're arriving in the evening, you'll want to be sure to bring some food with you, as there's not much nearby. If you want a lively urban atmosphere, this is not it, but if you are looking for a really charming place in the Hokkaido countryside, and if you like wildlife, this is a great place to stay.

    Steve2017-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabin in the green and among wildlife. The host is a fantastic nature guide. Spacious house with large terrass and garden.

    Thierry2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Hiroya's cabin in the snow. Our only regret is we couldn't stay longer. We’d love to come back in autumn or spring and experience more of Hokkaido’s wildlife. This is an ideal spot to stay if you want to see the Japanese cranes at dawn or go birdwatching in the area. It’s also easy to get out for a day and explore Lake Akan from here. I chose it because it was quite remote and after staying in hotels and geusthouses for a couple of weeks on our travels we enjoyed the space and calm it provided. This cabin was simple but it had everything we needed. It was incredibly warm and we particularly enjoyed the wood stove. There are also a couple of induction hobs for cooking and a filter coffee machine. Our host’s mother, Manami, met us and made sure we were comfortable, offering us extra warm jackets, snow shoes and extra gear. She couldn’t have been more hospitable. You will need to hire a car and I recommend stocking up on provisions in Kushiro before you arrive. We underestimated how long it would take us to get here from Kushiro – we were driving in the snow and maximum speed limits are around 50 km an hour. I recommend allowing 1 to 1.5 hours depending on weather conditions. Manami is also a local nature guide. She took us around the area for a day and this was an incredibly worthwhile experience. We explored many places we wouldn’t have otherwise, and saw cranes, sea eagles and plenty of deer and other creature. We didn’t come to take a lot of photographs, but if you’re a keen photographer, Manami is knowledgeable and patient – the perfect guide!

  • The cabin was beautiful and relaxing. The area offered an insight to rual Hokkaido life. It is idea for relaxation. in the Hokkaido countryside. Hiroya's family went out of the way to welcome and make us feel comfortable. They are wonderful people and are very knowledgeable about the area. I like to go back again one day.

Welcome to Tabibito-yado Shoei! This is a hostel with shared rooms.  All rooms are Japanese style with Futon.  We have a female room, kitchen with basic amenities, free wifi and a plenty space for parking.  Shower, washer and dryer are charged. Please remenber the facilities are very simple and basic, this is not a luxurious/fancy/super clean hotel.
SHOEI HOSTEL is a small friendly hostel where you can meet international travelers and local people. Located close to the train station, it is convenient for those who are travelling with Japan Rail Pass. Since we are in the center of east Hokkaido, three National Parks – Akan NP, Kushiroshitsugen NP and Shiretoko NP – are easy to access by car. SHOEI HOSTEL is run by the local community. Local people fixed the old house which is once used as a teacher’s house of the elementary school next to it. Not luxury but cozy place with warm welcome!
The area is home to breathtaking landscapes of farm land, two incomparable lakes, and an active volcano. Lake Mashu, one of the cleanest lakes in the world where is good for hiking and Lake Kussharo, Japan’s biggest caldera lake people come for canoeing and fishing. Mt. Io is an active volcano which is the source of great hot springs in Kawayu Onsen town two stops from the train station nearby our hostel. -The neighborhood We are located in Minami-teshikaga area, 10km away from Teshikaga town center which means JR Mashu station, supermarkets, restaurants and Onsen facilities.  The nearest convenience store is 6km away. -Getting around Public transportation: there is no bus.  JR station is right next to my hostel.  To get to lake Mashu/Lake Kussharo, you need to take a train then take a bus.
  • The host is very friendly. The house is very simple - I stayed only for one night as I travelled along. Friendly and good atmosphere!

  • Great value and all the basic facilities you might need. Quiet area with nothing around but great to take a rest after a long drive. Bring your shopping and linen or sleeping bags, since there are no futon covers.

  • I spent 2 nights in this airbnb and i had a good time. The owner came at mashu station to pick me up since there was no train going to the nearest station. The appartement was clean but could be a bit more. I spend a good evening with the owner and the other guest. The house is a bit in the middle of nowhere and even if the station is very close, there are very few trains per day. I mostly hitch-hiked. Overall a good stay with a friendly host.

More than 2nights required. 70min driving to Japan's famous autumn leaves trecking. The house is in hot spring town. There is no bathroom but you can enjoy hopping nice Onsens in hotels by walk.In winter, powder skiing is available at Sounkyo and smelt ice fishing is so fun!
There is no shower room but very nice hot spring bath is available in many hotels(¥400-700) in the small town 1-5min on foot. Nor is there washing machine.Coin laundry with dryer is available in some of hotels. Available:catraries, cooking goods, dishies, cups, Not available:shower towels, hot water from boiler(use a kettle) Toilet is just out of the entrance door on the terrace. It's not water flush but vault toilet.Sorry it sometimes smells so maybe you better think the toilet as well as campsite. water tank is installed in the kitchen instead of water tap in winter because it'll be frozen.there is no washroom, please use kitchen. The neighbor of the house is forest so small flies come in only 3 days after cleaning so please take care with a broom stick.
The town is very small but everywhere can be reached by foot in 5min. There are some restaurant. There is one food store but not enough choice to buy. It is better to go Kamishihoro town where is 15min driving to get things. Only 100m to nearest bus stop.
  • It's a very special experience in japan. We use wood to fire and warm the house. And have a nice hotpot dinner in the house. We also been to onsen, names 洞窟風呂, is very nice in the town. But the town have nothing, if you want to cook dinner yourself, you need to buy from other town. We love the house very much. If you want to experience the different style, you must come here! The host are alsovery firendly and helpful. Although they can't host us in the house, they gave us many information and help. If i have chance, we will stay again!

  • My partner and I started here for 2 nights and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We came to relax and snowboard. The communication from our host was fantastic and he answered all our questions as well as describe the facilities and location. The Log House was lovely and clean and provided the necessary amenities. The cabin warmed up very quickly by use of the fire place and the upstairs bedroom was very warm and comfortable. Cooking utensils are provided and it is easy to cook a nice meal. Please make sure to bring along some groceries as the local store does not stock very much and the local restaurant closes at 6pm. We visited a couple of different Onsens,as there is no shower at the house and both were nice however we did prefer 'Primal Stage' from the two as it had both indoor and outdoor baths to choose from. We loved the outside bath! The other Onsen, just past primal stage on the right going towards the mountain had wifi which was helpful. Everyone in town was friendly and if you come to ski or snowboard the mountain is lovely and small with the amenities being easy to use. A 4 hour lift ticket is 2500Yen per person is well worth it and the meals on the hill were great and reasonable prices. All in all we had a nice relaxing time and will come back next year for longer. Thank you Kenichi and Noriko :)

    Logan2016-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great experience to stay in a wooden house. There are lots of nice onsen nearby. But need to be prepared that facilities will be as good as living in city. Kenichi is nice and helpful. I had attended a BBQ with his friends. It was a great time to know more Hokkaido culture.

  • Great experience staying at Nukabira Gensenkyo (if u r a "road less travelled by" traveller) Great getaway, welcome by wild deer from distance when entering the house. We came off season, i think the only foreign travellers in the village. It is an onsen village n ski spot in winter. Place is clean enough, as in wood cabin in the forest. Great museum 50m distance. Showing all kinds of insects of the area, kinds of wood tree, rocks, etc. Very interesting. Met a very kind n friendly lady at the bus office. She always sends us entering the bus. Stand n greet (bow down) everytime we are getting into the bus. Second day we travelled to Kamishihoro (nearby town, 20km from Nukabira) We rented bicycles, bike to Naitai farm highland, where you can see kamishihoro from above the hill. It was a 18km up hill from Kamishihoro, especially the last 7km) i didnt see the word "highland". Almost gave up many times, but the scenery motivate us to keep going on. It is a perfect get lost vacation. thank you Kenichi (He greet us at Obihiro explain about everything) He is very kind and friendly.

    William2016-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • The onsen town is great. Choice on onsen to visit, old bridges and nature walks. It takes a bit of organisation, due to the remoteness and size of the town. The nakamuraya ryokan is great for dinner if you order the day before. They also have a nice mixed outdoor bath. The cafe at mikuni pass is also nice. The cabin is cute. Kenichi was great to ask advice to and recommended a number a great places for us

    rachel2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Cute cabin. Great onsen. Great ski area short walk away. Nakamuraya has good food if booked in advance. Humble unpretentious town where you are likely to be the only foreigners. In the warmer months it would be good to come back for hiking and cycling and to experience more local fresh produce.

    Nick2017-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • I have only great things to say about Kenichi as a person and also about the properties that he manages on AirBnB. My wife and I visited Hokkaido for 8 days and had a big problem with our rental car in New Chitose Airport, as the rental company refused to rent to us because they said we had the wrong kind of international license (warning to travelers with a license from the USA: your international driver’s license must be issued by AAA or AATA to be legal in Japan! I wish somebody had told us!). I called Kenichi (we had plans to stay at his cabin in Nukabira) and he suggested that we take a bus to his town (Obihiro) and try to rent a car there. He met us at the bus stop, helped us to rent a car, and then very kindly stayed in touch and became an invaluable source of information and help for the duration of our stay. Really, Kenichi is a great guy! We stayed in an apartment that he rents in Obihiro for one night that was a very nice and a pleasure to stay in. We also stayed for four nights in his cabin in Nukabira. The cabin is a very special place, located at the edge of the forest, with a wood stove, nice kitchen, and futon beds in the loft. It was easily our favorite place that we stayed in during our trip. The onsen town of Nukabira is a wonderful quiet village with a pretty lake, a ski area (for winter – we were there in the fall) and many onsens of different types and prices. We cooked all of our meals at the cabin and thus I can’t comment on the restaurants. You can rent bikes in the nature center, which also has a world-class collection of insects . We took great walks every day in the forests around Nukabira, there is a nice walk along the lake, you can climb Mount Upepesanke, or go to Lake Shikaribetsu for a walk in the rain forest. I highly recommend working with Kenichi to plan a trip or visiting Obihiro and Nukabira, we had a memorable time and feel that we now have a great new friend in Obihiro.

    Robert2016-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin (and little town in which it resides) is a gem! Our kids absolutely loved the coziness and warmth of Kenichi's cabin! We left some sleds behind for any future kids that want to play in the snow!

  • Mayumi's place is great! For anyone that wants the feeling of staying at "home" in Akan, this is the place to be. She was so kind to us and allowed us to really become part of her family (everyone is so nice). In addition, for a small added charge, Mayumi made us some delicious home-cooked dinners. She also gave us tons of tips on what to see and do and even dropped us off downtown the first day so we would know where to go. I would highly recommend her place to anyone looking to get away to peaceful Lake Akan. Thank you so much for everything, Mayumi!

  • A lovely place to stay and Mayumi was a wonderful host - would definitely stay again. Thank you, Mayumi!

    Kim2016-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Mayumi's home is a few minutes from Lake Akan, in Eastern Hokkaido. Mayumi and her husband were lovely and very accommodating to my travels, giving me a ride when the weather got too cold. Akan is a nice little onsen town with some winter events when the lake freezes over. One can go ice fishing, snow mobile riding, ATV riding, and a few other things. There is also a nightly fireworks show. There is also a small Ainu village to visit too, with lots of traditional woodworks and some Ainu cuisine. The room itself is spacious and offers some privacy but it's just as fine to relax or chat in the living room. It's not listed on the page but home cooked meals are also provided, and Mayumi is a wonderful cook. When I went out and it got too cold, her daughter even prepared a jacket for me to pick up. All in all, I really enjoyed my time here and totally recommend to anyone wanting to get out of the big cities a little bit!

  • Mr. & Mrs.Nakamura are a very lovely, wonderful , and hospitable couple!! They treated us more like friends than guests by sharing their family life, traveling experinces and so on. They are very open-minded and interesting! Besides that, their house is very beautiful and peaceful always with fragrance of rose floating in the air! And, the breakfast is very rich! We had a great time eating and chatting with them! We will definitely choose to stay with them again next time when we visit Akanko! Thank you for your hospitality, wonderful night and morning!!!!! We will send you some pinapple cake soon!!!! lovexxxx, Yiting & Jrchung

  • Yuya is very honest, kind and lovely person. His all hand made Tida house is one of the most amazing house I've ever seen... worth staying here for having a break and relax in between your travel in Hokkaido as we did. It's very unique, but also feel like a home. It doesn't have a kitchen nor bath (only toilet). We went to onsen spa (5km away) every evening. We brought our own portable stove for cooking. One thing I was bit disappointed is the house shakes whenever truck passes the road. Sometime it woke me up during the night. The traffic isn't so heavy though.

  • The host was nice and kind. She provided decent japanese homemade breakfast with inexpensive price. The room was located on the 2nd floor. Steep stairs to 1st floor and seperate toilet were small obstacles.

  • Lovely experience. Four nights stay, the host provided excellent Japanese breakfast. We speak some Japanese, and were there with a six year old kid, and all went well. Highly recommended.

  • Sawada's place is homely, cosy and clean. Mr.Kobayashi is a stay-in Uncle who is really friendly and even offer us ice cream. The breakfast cooked for us is yummy, comforting and filling as well. One point to note is that the stair is very steep and guest with big luggage will be challenging. Opt for bedroom on ground floor if you have young kids or elderly. Overall thumbs up!

    Stanley2016-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying in Sawadas uncles home, he is a lovely man, cheerful, courteous and kind. The futons were very comfortable and it is in a great position to explore the nearby national parks. Thank you again. Highly recommended.

  • Eiji's place is located next to his farm. Our main purpose of stay was going to Shiretoko national park, where is about 1hour away by car from this place. As Eiji refers that a cabin house is simple and you have to walk out from a cabin to toilet and shower. Just imagine that you stay at campsite if you intend to book this place.

  • Very unique and nice cabin inside a farm. Overall facilities are outstanding. It is a little far from Shireotoko.

  • It's a small, basic cabin. A great change from the city to stay on a farm! Eiji-san was a wonderful host, gave us a nice tour of the farm and cooked an incredible BBQ for us, with tons of great veggies grown right there on the farm. Definitely recommend to stay here!
