  • Lovely place to stay

  • Location / price - great for a value place to stay near the beautiful Kovalam beach.

    Richard2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • This property is located walking distance from the Kovalam beach, and the bistro located near the property gives a glimpse of the Arabian Sea. Guests should be aware that this actually is a hotel, and not a homestay so please ensure beforehand what kind of rooms you may get. If you have a vehicle, parking is away from the property, like many others on back side of main road, but closer to the beach. While there seem to be issues about room service, the location, spaciousness of the room makes up for it partly.

  • We had a wonderful time at Anitha's Garden Stay -- it was paradise in India. To give you an idea, our plan was to stay in Kovalam for one night, but because of our experience we extended it to three nights. We especially want to emphasize the wonderful job that our host, Yousuf, did for us. He was attentive, constantly available, helped us with anything we wanted or needed, and was friendly company as well. Also, Yousuf referred us to a driver, Sanji, Who took us around the Trivandrum area and did a wonderful job as well. Anitha's was an oasis and we hope to come back soon.

  • It's hard to know where exactly to start, but to say this place and my stay here was incredible doesn't do it full justice. I think the best place to start is with where my stay started, and that's with Yousef as I walked up the short path to the place. Yousef is an unbelievably kind, soft-spoken but jovial, hospitable man who is on the ground running this operation for most of the year. If you let him, he'll be the orchestrator of an one-of-a-kind experience. The rooms were clean and beautiful with nice balconies that had lights and fans, overlooking a peaceful garden; there were great resources for Kerelean/Ayurvedic massage right behind the guesthouse itself, as well as some small workout amenities that were more than enough. The connected restaurant is incredible, some of the best food I've had in India, and has a small, pretty view of the sea coming in, while having the advantage of being away from the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk, though only 30 meters up the path from it (the same of which is true about the Garden Stay). It was a perfect location. I couldn't recommend more highly. All of the staff were incredibly nice and the amenities were fantastic, for an excellent price.

  • Excellent place to stay in kovalam, away from the touts and restauranteurs of the main drag but close enough to them if you need. The breakfast provided is delicious and some of the best coffee I've had in India. Only small downside was that there is no yoga, as advertised in the add. I was told this was because it was the off season, however this was not mentioned prior to my arrival. Otherwise it was the perfect stay in a very clean, spacious and homely room.

    £25 ANITHA'S GARDEN STAY

Hotel Sea Breeze is a very popular mid-range hotel in Kovalam. Our guest accommodation is set in a mature garden, tucked away from the beach vendors. The famous busy Lighthouse Beach is a short stroll from Sea Breeze. (2 to 3 minutes) Airport and Railway Station are in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) 30 mins from Sea Breeze. Rooms at Sea Breeze are set on three floors and include Sea Breeze Chalet. Ideally situated for Yoga, Ayurveda, Kalaripayattu (martial arts) and exploring South Kerala.
Guest Rooms in Hotel Sea Breeze are set on three floors. Each en-suite room is fitted with a ceiling fan. Rooms sleep two in singe beds or can be arranged as a double bed if preferred. Tariff is for the room not per person. DISCOUNTS FOR LONG TERM STAY The calendar here records vacancies for only ROOM 205. Some other rooms are also listed on this website. All rooms are similar to this listing except Room 101 (The Chalet) which is slightly separate to the rest of the hotel and has its own private sit-out and entrance. Hotel Sea Breeze is in the popular beach resort of Kovalam. This region of Kerala is very like Goa and has been growing in size and popularity since the flower power days of the 1960s. Kovalam is located in the district of Thiruvananthapuram – yes quite a mouthful! Even the locals generally call it Trivandrum. The Airport is in Trivandrum and so is the main Railway Station. Lighthouse Beach is a short walk from Hotel Sea Breeze – 2 or 3 minutes. TELLING IT LIKE IT IS ... Kovalam was initially a fishing village with beautiful beaches lined with coconut trees. Now, you could be forgiven for thinking you had landed in Benidorm. High rise accommodation has sprouted up everywhere as landowners try to attract the tourists. Some of these structures are illegal construction so the powers that be could, in theory, have them removed. However, India thrives on bribery from a few rupees to crores of rupees and Kovalam is no exception. While bribes continue to be paid, illegal buildings will stand. The likeness to Benidorm ends with the new high rise buildings as a quick scout around the area will confirm. The Indian people are not good at maintenance. ‘Build it and leave it’, seems to be the motto. This is partly due to the caste system which still pervades. There is an attitude of ‘its not my job’ – especially when it comes to cleaning toilets. They have yet to get a grip on that one! It is also partly due to the monsoon season which has to be experienced to appreciate how difficult it is to keep a respectable veneer on the buildings. The monsoon weather is relentless in its destructive powers - but fascinating to watch. It always surprises me how children wearing bright clean crisp school uniforms pop out from dingy buildings on their way to equally dingy schools. At the end of the day, still without a messy blob on them, the kids return home with happy smiling faces. India might have a space programme but it is backward in coming forward when it comes to creating and maintaining an infrastructure. Consequently, if you step off the mock Victorian promenade of Lighthouse Beach, you will quickly discover where the rubbish goes! Bottles are heaped up behind walls awaiting the Bottle Collector. This is a bi-product of tourism. Plastics and other ‘throw aways’ magically disappear in developed countries while India must burn or bury rubbish – or find another use for it. Generally nothing is wasted in India, hence the Bottle Collector will remove them - eventually. While on holiday in Goa, I tried to help by picking up the street rubbish around my accommodation and putting it in my room bin. It took a few days for me to realise, my host threw it back into the street each day! This will also be true of Kovalam, so do try to create as little waste as possible. Electricity supply all over India is somewhat erratic. They even have set times when the current will go off. This can be fun but not if you are in the shower in the dark and wondering where the towel might be! There are some very good solar power and wind up torches available now. Suggest you take one with you. Most of the water in Kovalam comes from wells. It is generally safe. These guys have been digging wells for hundreds of years. (The well digging caste of course!) They know what they are doing. However, taking care of tummies is always a good idea, otherwise the holiday could be spent on the toilet – or hovering over one if you dare to use the Indian squat version. Acidophilus tablets help keep the digestion in order. A bit like eating yogurt, acidophilus boosts the good bacteria which helps prevent ‘Delhi Belly’. Lighthouse Beach is lined with small restaurants and gift shops. The restaurants serve a wide variety of meals and snacks – Indian, Continental and Chinese. Also there are tailors who will stitch you an outfit to order - within hours. It is common practice to wander up and down the sea front promenade in the evenings. Strangely enough (and I still don’t know how the locals do this), they soon know who you are and where you are staying! Some restaurants have extraordinary long menus. They can be fun to read with such offers as ‘scream bled eggs’ and ‘shew heded roundels lossed in soya’! The first is no doubt scrambled eggs but the latter? Your guess is as good as mine! The days fishing catch (and sometimes yesterdays) is often displayed outside the restaurants to lure in customers. BEER – Most of us enjoy a beer on a hot summers day. In Kovalam, beer is available but it could arrive at your table in a tea pot – or the bottle might be wrapped in newspaper and placed under the table. Alcohol licences are very expensive in Kerala, no doubt controlled by gangsters and police. The restaurant owners resort to the good old bribe system and we must be thankful for that! The sand on the South Kerala beaches is black in parts – rather like the volcanic beaches of Lanzarote. The beaches are well used. Some people are adventurous enough to try body surfing on the waves. Beware of strong currents in the waters off Lighthouse Beach. Unlike the rest of Kerala it is quite normal to sunbathe and swim wearing skimpy cossies. There was a time when Kerala men would bus in to see the half naked foreigners and their strange activities. Now they are used to such sights and will probably just try to sell you something. The popularity of Kovalam has partly grown around the availability of the ancient healing practice of Ayurveda and traditional medicines. There are many Ayurvedic practices within the resort. Certain standards have recently been stipulated for the running of such an establishment – but there are always those bribes – so do make sure you are not being massaged with old cooking oil. Yoga is also very popular and many studios can be found in and around Kovalam. Tuition in Kalaripayattu (Kerala martial arts) can also be found, though only a basic grounding can be expected during a short holiday. It takes years of dedication to become expert. Details on You Tube can be found at Kalari at Hotel Sea Breeze - Kovalam - Kerala - India Hotel Sea Breeze can arrange Ayurveda, Yoga and Kalaripayattu. Talk to Guru Suresh - Kalari Instructor. He is an expert in Ayurveda and Kalaripayattu. Yoga will be available daily from January 2017 - with English Yoga Instructor Jon. As a course: 4x two hour lessons + an additional teaching summarising the history and philosophy of yoga plus a personal practice plan to take away: Rs2000 per person. If you tire of the beach, Trivandrum is a good place for a day out. Thirteen kilometres from Kovalam, - buses, taxis, auto-rickshaws will get you there. Shopping is good and lots to see and do. Ten kilometres from Kovalam is the Valiyathura Pier. Here the fishermen cast their boats into the water and then dive in after them. The 214m long pier offers magnificent views of the coast. Visitors to South Kerala must try to see Kanyakumari (Cape Comorin). This is the southern-most tip of mainland India. It is suggested that there once existed a continent called Kumari Kandam to the south of Kanyakumari, often compared with Lemuria. This journey can include a visit to the Padmanabhapuram Palace. The palace was constructed around 1601. It is one of the best examples of traditional Kerala architecture. Very nice – recommend it. A stay at Sea Breeze Chalet gives you a comfortable bed in a convenient location - budget style. You will hear jungle noises from wild life in the nearby trees which can give a wonderful feeling of relaxation - the unforgettable sounds of India.
Kovalam is a popular resort bustling with tourists from all over the world. The beaches are full of interesting people enjoying the Kerala sun and gossiping in restaurants on the promenade. That's the way it is during the tourist season October to April. In monsoon, the sea rages, most tourists disappear and it is difficult to even see a glimpse of the beach. For those who choose to stay, Kovalam in monsoon is an ideal location to get away from it all, watch and listen to the rain, enjoy the odd sunny days and catch up with thoughts. It is also the best time to take Ayurveda. There are many gift shops and beach restaurants.
  • The SeaBreeze hotel at Kovalam Beach is an excellent choice at very reasonable rates and if you like a home away from home atmosphere in a quiet environment and treed outlook ... And yet only five minutes to the ocean front and restaurants and shops, - and for those that are vegetarian there are a number of pure veg restaurants nearby The feature of staying here is the congeniality of the manager and his willingness to make your stay as easy as is possible, - Manu's willingness to answer your every need even extends to personally accompany you to the beach and facilities that you are in need of The hotel is impeccably clean and has its own charm in the architecture and wide colonial verandahs which offers a cool place to relax in the the sea breezes The rooms are spacious though basic and are also impeccably clean Everything about this hotel is pleasant and relaxing

  • Very good location ideal for attending my ashtanga yoga intensive :) Suresh was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I would definitely recommend staying at Sea Breeze and it will be my first choice if I come back to Kovalam

  • Ok, it is a guest house but it feels homely, possibility to use the fridge and boil water in their kitchen. It is very well located, 5 minutes walk to the beach, plenty of restaurants around. Manu who looks after the place is very nice, helpful and always available. The room is pretty spacious, large desk, equipment to hang clothes, bed a bit hard but ok ! nice to sit on the balcony outside the room... Quality/price is good. We'll come back !

  • It was a nice stay in this Hotel. They don't have A/C but Most of the Time the Roms are in the shadow and so the van in the Room is enough to give Coolness.I enjoyed the Veranda where I Could Choose to Read Books in different languages. The Beach is only 2 Minutes Award from the Hotel. It was a very nice stay.

  • Very clean and nice room at a good location, just a few minutes walking from Light House beach. However, the owners weren't there and the person who recieved us was often gone or hidden in a room watching tv. There wasn't really extra service provided (like laundry, money exchange or go to recommendations). If you don't need that, this would be a good budget option.

    Lette2017-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This place may be not be right in front of the beach but it is very close and on walkable distance. Room was very nit and clean. Nice quite place. May be families can also stay here. Manu who was managing this place is very responsive and helpful. Personally I think its great value for money. Again thumbs up for cleanliness.

Hello from Lal! I am a teacher of yoga, travelling widely in India and Europe for this. I began to host at 'Parampara" in partnership with my friend who lives in Europe since 2016. I enjoy meeting new people and supporting their travel plans to give them a good experience. At Parampara, we offer a taste of traditional Indian hospitality. The popular Kovalam Beach and its leisure activities is less than 5 min away. Parampara is a home away from home, for you to rest and recuperate.
The rooms are spacious with en-suite toilet and bathroom in a Kerala Cottage. The accommodation is serene and quiet. It is very close to Kovalam beach and holiday activities. There is a private terrace and a patio garden where guests can relax - reading, lazing in sunshine and connecting with nature. The beach and the beach activities are only a short walk away. Local sight seeing, experiences of yoga and Ayurvedic massages can be arranged on-site. We are within 30 min drive from the airport and Trivandrum train station. Pick up and drop off can be arranged.
The place is unique in offering quiet and serene stay along with proximity to the beach and water activities, with easy access to Trivandrum city and local and National Highways.
  • Very good location Love it

  • This was by far my favorite place I stayed in my two months in India. Room was cozy and clean with a balcony and view from where I could watch the crows and squirrels going about their business. And Moorthi makes the most delicious food which is a fantastic bonus!

    Amanda Joan2018-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • The location was perfect for us as it was a short walk from the beach (without having to climb up and down the cliff each day!) and also felt quite secluded. The room is as seen on pics - spacious and clean. Moori was looking after the property well - very helpful with check in and check out. We very much enjoyed our stay here during Christmas.

  • We arrived straight from The Netherlands to this amazing place. We were picked up by a taxi, arranged by Pampara, at 4am. Upon arrival Murti was waiting for us for a warm welcome. It was such a nice landing spot! Only 3 rooms and very quiet. Surrounded by palm trees, birds, crickets and fire flies in the night. Pampara is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Kovalam, yet the beach, the shops, the restaurants are in 5 min walking distance. Wifi reception is good for (Hidden by Airbnb) and for the odd (Hidden by Airbnb) search. The rooms on the first and second floor have a big balcony. We stayed in the room on the first floor and put our hammock up in between the two pillars on the balcony (bring a hammock!). The rooms are big and bathroom as well. The nice thing is that the outside wall is round, which gives a really nice look and feel. Murti is an amazing host and cook! He cooked for us at least once a day. The food was delicious! Pure, honest and authentic Kerala food. Lal was great! He helped us out with buying a motorbike to travel through India. Many things are written about Kovalam, and we loved it! For us it was a perfect landing spot arriving from Europe. Yes it is busy and there are tourists here, but mainly Indian tourists who are having an amazing time at the beach, which is a joy to watch. It is easy to rent a scooter and to drive to a beach further south or north, which a little bit more quiet. There are many places to discover around Kovalam.

  • good value for the money, great location, quiet and short walk to the beach and shops.

    Raquel2018-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • The stay in this place was quite nice! We had our own room with bathroom and a balcony! The house is like a tower and every platform is used as one room! It's is hard to find, but best you can do is walking the beach away from the lighthouse, take the last stairs and than follow the street. There will be one corner, there you have to take the right street, it is the one which goes down! When the street is going to turn left you are very near the house! Just have a look to a big black gate! The area is quiet and you can hear the birds singing. I would guess the house is 500 meters away from the beach! Very nice opportunity :)

    Kilian2017-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This house is quaint and tucked away off a main street, close enough to get to the beach and restaurants within a 5-10 min walk, and far enough to enjoy a quieter feel. The caretaker Murthy will take good care of you, with optional paid meals if you like! I arrived on a super late flight (3am) and Lal (the owner) arranged my airport pick up, which I appreciated as a single traveler after a long journey. This is a great location to spend a few days in Kovalam, or longer if you opt to try some of the Ayurveda treatments close by. If you are a female traveler, I wouldn't stay out late (it gets dark so fast, and the walk back from the beach is behind shops and not so well lit). Otherwise this was the perfect spot to rest at and enjoy Kovalam from!

    Roopa2017-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Review by a colleague who stayed here-- The house is 5mins away from hawa beach and is in close proximity to restaurants and cafes. Moorthi, the caretaker prepared delicious Kerala breakfast everyday. This must be one of the few properties in Kovalam that doesn't have buildings around it and has a parking area. I would recommend parampara to other travellers and even families. Will definitely stay here next time in Kovalam.

Namisha gave a wonderful Ayurvedic massage. The hotel is on the main road into Kovlam about a 10 min walk to the beach ,located close to many shops . It should be noted there is a temple behind the hotel that pipes music , it is rather loud ,but you are in India and it is their way!

Kovalam is famous for its beaches, among the most pristine in India. Kovalam is extremely popular among westerners due to shallow waters and low tidal waves. It is also one of the oldest tourist enclave in India, which known among tourist circuit right in 1930s. Kovalam shot into limelight in the early seventies with arrivals of the masses of hippies. That started the transformation of a casual fishing village of Kerala into one of the most important tourist destinations in all India- the Kovalam beach.

  • The staff was incredibly helpful! The entire property was extremely clean. Fee frills, but the beach was only a few minutes walk to lighthouse beach! This place is an incredible deal!

  • House is in very good place. very close to restaurants and shops (2-3 min) but at the same time veery quite place in the trees.. room was very clean. Suresh is endlesly friendly guy and all the people who are working there. they can offer also tuk tuk in any case if u want to go around the city they have reasonable prices!! so if u want to go in Kovalam it is the only place where u can stay thanks!!!

    Dimitri2018-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a pleasant stay, the room is very clean and the host is available for all requests such as soap, towels, and additional sheets for covering at night. 5 minute walk to the beach. The taxi offered by the host is 2X what we paid for a taxi from the airport. The hill is steep before the hotel, so it may be necessary to insist that the taxi driver take you all the way, it's safe and there is an area at the hotel to turn around.

    Natasha2016-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and comfortable room, a tiny bit off the beach, hence a good place to relax after a day out at the beach. The attendant Manu at the place was outstanding in his hospitality and service.

    Salman2017-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely not what it says on the tin.Although this is budget accommodation it does not provide a clean and pleasant environment the room smelt musty and damp and there was no water in a less than budget bathroom. We walked into the room and decided immediately that it wasn’t somewhere we would choose to stay. Much better accommodation available for an equally budget price

    Ken2017-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my friend enjoyed our stay in one room for three nights. The home is close to the beach and restaurants. We had a nice time, only missed a second socket in our room!

The calendar here records vacancies for only ROOM 202. While bribes are paid, illegal buildings will stand. It always surprises me how children wearing bright clean crisp school uniforms pop out from such dingy buildings on their way to equally dingy schools. At the end of the day, still without a messy blob on them, the kids return home. Generally nothing is wasted in India, hence the bottle collector. While on holiday in Goa, I tried to help by picking up the street rubbish around my accommodation and putting it in my room bin. It took a few days for me to realise, my host threw it back into the street each day! This is also mainly the case in Kovalam - so do please try to leave as little rubbish as possible. Electricity supply all over India is somewhat erratic. They even have set times when the current will go off. This can be fun but not if you are in the shower and wondering where the towel might be! There are some very good solar power and wind up torches available now. Suggest you take one with you. Most of the water in Kovalam comes from wells. It is generally safe. These guys have been digging wells for hundreds of years. (The well digging caste of course!) They know what they are doing. However, taking care of tummies is always a good idea otherwise the holiday could be spent on the toilet – or hovering over one if you dare to use the Indian version. Acidophilus tablets help keep the digestion in order. A bit like eating yogurt, acidophilus boosts the good bacteria which helps prevent ‘Delhi Belly’. Lighthouse Beach is lined with small restaurants and gifts shops. The restaurants serve a wide variety of meals and snacks – Indian, Continental and Chinese. Also there are tailors who will stitch you an outfit to order. It is common practice to wander up and down the sea front promenade in the evenings. Strangely enough (and I still don’t know how the locals do this), they soon know who you are and where you are staying! Some restaurants have extraordinary long menus. • It was a decent and calm stay

  • Seabreeze is a place where I found peace and felt secure. The place is neat and clean, the room has a very basic setting and the staff, Mr. Suresh and Manuil were extremely nice and helpful at all times. They placed a mosquito net in my room as requested. No noise, privacy and quiet environment. You need a torch to go back home from the beach which is a few blocks away, just 2 minutes walk. Good offer for budget travelers.

    Aura2015-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • It is a very good place to stay in. Its close enough to the beach so you may walk in at any time and yet further away to avoid the crowds. I had informed them that we were there for my wife's birthday and they surprised us with a greeting card which was a pleasant surprise. The staff was courteous and well informed. We had a great time

  • See Breeze is well located just few minutes from a Lighthouse beach and restaurants. The room was clean and big enough. Also one of the strongest wifi we had in KeralaSurresh was very helpful.

  • What an absolutely wonderful stay! Room was very clean and comfortable - like others have mentioned, the hotel was minutes walking distance to the beach. Mosquitoes were not a problem as window screens were installed. The kind gentleman overlooking the property (I forget what his name was!) let me check out much later than the usual check out time as I had no way to get to my next destination due to potentially hazardous protests in the Trivandrum. Would stay here again! Thank you!

  • Thanks for a lovely stay. This is ideal accommodation for kovalam. Basic but spacious room with access to a shared balcony overlooking a garden full of Palm trees. 2 minute walk to the beach through the little alley ways of kovalam. Near lots of restaurants selling delicious and cheap indian food - we particularly liked Suprabatham. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only problem is the Mosquitos so arm yourself with repellent and coils to burn. Our room didn't have a mosquito net which would have been good but we noticed another room did have one.

  • Very nice and comfortable place. Located at a walking distance to the Kovalam beach. Everything is taken care of by Joseph and his family :)

    Shankhamala2017-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first trip to India. When I arrived, Joseph had to tend to an emergency in another city, but even so he left me everything I would need and more (bottled water, fruits, milk, bread, instant coffee, tea, hand soap) as well as nearby restaurant recommendations. You're essentially renting a spacious single bedroom apartment in Joseph's homestay. When you walk in there is a kitchen and dining room combo with a sink, an electric stovetop, spacious refrigerator, and a few plates/utensils. There is also a small dining table, and a coffee table by the couch. Joseph said the rooms he rents are similar so this should be accurate. Bedroom: Your bedroom is the room with A/C, but if you leave the door open between the bedroom and the kitchen+living room it will easily cool both. I recommend limiting your A/C usage a bit after the first day however so you get used to the outside temperature and won't be overwhelmed when you get outside. The fans can spin a lot faster and produce more wind than any I've seen in the US, and you can leave the front door open with the screen door closed for more fresh air. The screen is very fine so it doesn't let mosquitoes in. The same goes for the window screens in the kitchen and bedroom. The bed is comfortable and I had no trouble falling asleep each night. The bedroom has a flatscreen TV, though I didn't use it, so I can't speak to the quality. Internet: The wireless internet works best in the living room. Like most Indian homes, this building is mostly made of concrete, which blocks wireless signals pretty effectively. The wireless router is near your front door, so if you must connect to it from the bedroom, bring a strong USB wireless adapter for your laptop to speed things up. I have been using the TP-Link TL-WN722N adapter (Amazon has it for $12 at the moment) and it has worked great. Breakfast/Food: I have felt so spoiled from all the good food that Joseph's wife has cooked for me. She is an expert taster at high-end parties in India where she identifies what spices need to be added to make a dish authentic and tasty. You will eat traditional Kerala food for breakfast like appam, dosa, and many curries, along with an omelette if you wish. I would also look forward to what new type of Kerala-typical fruit Joseph would bring along with breakfast each day. Joseph also offered to have a fish curry dinner prepared for one family staying there, so that's a possibility if you can't make it to a restaurant. Host: Joseph is a kind, accommodating host who will do everything in his power to make your stay enjoyable. He'll usually stay during breakfast to chat and give suggestions on things to do if you don't have plans. He does well to make you feel like family. I'll miss being in Joseph's homestay!

  • WiFi was cut off during out second night without any warning (they took the router). Breakfast was also not provided. Very expensive for what you get, stay closer to the beach for cheaper.

  • Flabbergasting and a fantastic stay at Joseph Uncle’s Little Paradise. Uncle was a all in one package - Guide, Tour Specialist and a great communicator. From the Day we booked till we left, uncle made sure we reach the point seamlessly. Good food from Aunty was a added plus point. We were very happy and the stay helped us rejunvate.

  • The rooms are really very nice and simple - I had exactly the room in the picture. You can hear the ocean quite well while lying in your bed - I loved that. It took about 10 days until I found out that the hotel managers name is not Fasil (the guy who writes to you here on airbnb) but Shanmukhan. Shanmukhan was always around and very nice and helpful. I liked that you had a 3 minute walk to the lighthouse beach but in the same time you could also reach the much less frequented Rockholm Beach which lies in the opposite direction. Recommended!

  • The condition of the room in terms of cleaniness was terrible. No room to let should be in such condition: unclean toilet, bathroom with water leaks, no shower (boat style shower), but dirty bathroom floor. Black layer of dust in the wardrobe, thick layer of dust on bed lamps... nothing was clean

Very quite area, ideal for a break from a busy life.
The local folks welcome guests and they are helpful.
  • After a few surprises we settled in and enjoyed our stay. Firstly, the WiFi was an extra fee but the signal was bad so was not worth paying for. Second the breakfast was extra and thirdly it turned out that we had not paid for air-conditioning so if you want it make sure to select a different listing on airbnb. This is a small guest house in a village about 5-10 mins walk from nearest beach with a few restaurants. Friendly villagers and you can watch fishermen and birds in the lagoon in front of the house.

  • No cleanliness. Flush was not working in washroom. They asked me to change the room that made us to wait for 45minutes. Lot of mosquito and ant were there in other room. I went with my parents and they got irritate in such a horrible condition. Host was not there. There was one person to see everything who can not understand Hindi or English anything. Terrible condition.

  • The studio apartment was very charming and had lovely views of the backwaters and the sea. We had a great time sitting on the balcony and watching the fishermen and their activities. The place might be a little hard to find, especially if you are to arrive after dark hours, as it is hidden all the way on the beach, outside of Trivandrum. However Matthew was very responsive and helpful and we also had a lovely breakfast the next morning. We only stayed one night there, but would have loved to spend more courtesy of the location. Very peaceful.

  • Hi Thanks for suggesting this wonderful place in Trivandrum. Mr Mathew is a good host, he made all arrangements to make the stay a memorable one. The care taker Mr. Babu makes you really comfortable. The location is so peaceful with friendly neighborhood. Sitting in the corridor overlooking the backwaters and the sea is relaxing. Looking forward to visiting again. Jose M V

  • Place is a little remote but this adds to the experience, very peaceful location, you can hear the waves crashing onto the beach. Room was clean and tidy If you are happy to walk to the main road (approx 10-15min) you can catch a bus to City or Kovalam. Caretaker was a man of few words, but did his job checking me in, and was about all the time, I'm sure if I needed anything he would have been willing to help (over coming any language barrier). I arrived after dark from being out all day and he was there with a torch at my door to help me get into my room. Overall nice place to stay, remote, peaceful, clean & tidy

    Jasper2016-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • My room was clean and spacious, more like an apartment and with separate bathroom. The location of the guesthouse was idyllic, set back in the tropical forest, about 10 minute walk to main road to get autorickshaw etc. Mathew was very gracious and obliging. I had a very comfortable stay. Cheers!

Our Villa is tucked into the road where Vivanta is located. The surroundings are quiet and full of greenery. You can take a short 5 minute walk to the Beach. Note : Our rooms are bigger and spacious than other homestays. You get private balconies to relax and you can also sip some tea with us in the lawn. Visitors can park upto two cars outside the villa. Each room can fit 3 guests comfortably - you'll have to pay for the extra guest though. Fully furnished bedrooms Air-conditioning Well appointed rooms Private access to rooms Modern bathrooms with Shower Curtains Dry bathroom floors Complimentary toiletries Complimentary towels Complimentary Wi-Fi Compliment laundry Ironing services chargeable Iron box and ironing board Smoking allowed in balcony and lawn Near Lighthouse Beach Near Kovalam Beach Closest supermarket - less than a km Airport - 15 kms Railway station - 15 kms Note - Although we provide free Wi-Fi, please make note of the fact that the Wi-Fi speed quite honestly, isn't stellar. The connection is slow and this is what is available where we stay. We are still learning to live with this connection speed and we're sure you might end up grumpy if you're depending on our connection for anything important. It's make do and mostly suffices. Another note :) On some days in my calendar, I have only 2 rooms available. Send me a message before booking for 6 or more guests (but if you're OK with extra beds, then it's all cool)
Far away from the maddening city! Easy access to Auto Rickshaws/ Tuk Tuks. Extremely close to the beach, the entire neighborhood is decent, quiet and friendly. 1. You can take a walk on winding roads to see some backwaters. 2. You can take a short walk to the beach. 3. You should try the seafood on the beach. 4. Try the amazing natural thirst quencher - fresh coconut water! 5. Take an early morning walk to the beach during fishing season to see the catch of the day! 6. Take a Tuk Tuk (auto rickshaw) to the main junction and hop on a bus to East Fort. East Fort is like the entrance to the city - from here you can take Rickshaws cuz they'll charge you by the meter. But if you'll take an auto rickshaw/Tuk Tuk near the beach - they'll rip you. (They're stationed near Taj - what can you expect) 7. Go further to Kovalam Beach and enjoy Leela Palace there. 8. Seafood on that Beach (Leela) is mind blowing! The price is also equally exorbitant - but I think it's worth it. 9. We're also close to the Vizhinjam harbour. And a few lovely mosques on the way. 10. We're close to the Bheemapally mosque - a tourist spot. 11. We have great eateries near our house since we live close to the beach. 12. There's a good Authentic Ayurvedic Massage Center near our place - the owner is a friend and offers good prices for our guests. 13. We also have a small jewelry and handicrafts store on the beach.

  • Benazir's place is very well located. Near to famous beaches and not too far from the town. As we were very late for check in, her family made sure of smooth check in process. They provided with all our basic needs and even few special needs for our kid. Apart from few hot water issues, we were satisfied with her place. A nice place to spend few days too. For the price we paid I would definitely recommend the place.

  • Fabulous location, right next to five-star hotels and around the corner from the beach. Don't miss the sunrise and seeing the fisherman on the beach pulling in their nets. Breakfast was wonderful, the hosts couldn't be friendlier or more helpful! The room was clean and spacious with a lovely little balcony -- king size bed in the suite we stayed in had comfy pillows too. Bathroom en-suite, fan, and AC were all great amenities too!

    Susan2017-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very warm and gracious hosts. We had a comfortable and very pleasant stay.

    Jayanthi2017-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This property is specially for people who want a home away from home and who like to have someone around to ask 'how was your day' at the end of each day. Very warm and friendly people. Location was great and very easily accessible to main beaches and the rooms provide a great quiet and peace with no town noises around. A place to unwind and good R&R.

    Anshul2018-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Shortly put, this is a lovely house and host family, and arguably the best value for your money in Kovalam. It’s easy to reach as it is just next door to the Taj, which all the drivers know. Another nice hotel is just across the road which offers all-day pool access and a decent lunch buffet for 500 INR per person. I also recommend eating breakfast at Neela House, we were very happy with it! The only drawback was that it was a little tricky to get hot water in the shower, but by and large this was a great stay.

    Kai2018-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • At the outset the concept of Home Stay in a popular tourist destination like Kovalam means both the Guest and Host are willing to walk the extra mile to fit the bill in terms of excitement, value for money. To that extent the Neela House is not disappointing us one bit. It has a laid back style typical of Kerala and an easily accessible location from the beach. It gives that tinge of excitement when you would need to put in that level of determination to sustain the urge to be so near to beach yet be out of fully commercialized places. This place hangs in perfect balance in terms of access to place of action and still remaining discreet. The place is well kept and the hosts are friendly. The great challenge for any home stay is not lack of any physical amenities it’s whether you have the right understanding and background to know what to expect out of it. That’s the beauty of home stay where you are willing to experiment. This place didn’t fail me in that experiment and I would provide some tactical inputs to my friends who would to stay here to make the experience more enjoyable for them.

    Nikita2017-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place, spacious and extremely well maintained. Great location: while it is in close proximity to a small beach and a couple of other luxury resorts, it is sufficiently secluded to let guests enjoy the serenity of the countryside and wake up to the chirping of birds. The hosts are warm and friendly and listen to your needs/feedback and work to help out. The house help is also very friendly with a very pleasant demeanour. The clarity and promptness in communication and the willingness to help out and make the stay comfortable is indeed very admirable. All in all, a nice place to stay at.

A tastefully decorated Private room in a Colonial Villa. First floor, Private Access, Modern bathroom, Large balcony, AC, Mini Fridge & an exclusive private library. 5 min walk from Samudra Beach, Taj Vivanta, Backwaters, 3rd Rock Restaurant, Spa etc
A Luxe bedroom with a studio layout. PRIVATE ACCESS TO ROOM It's equipped with a personal library, spacious wardrobe, mini refrigerator, comfortable double bed and a private balcony with archaic seating. A spacious wardrobe, and a beautiful large cabinet for all your knick knacks! We have a separate shower area in the bathroom with a shower curtain, modern amenities and most importantly, a dry bathroom floor. We request you to utilise the shower curtain appropriately :) because wet bathroom floors in the coastal areas is a nightmare : D We provide complimentary water, toiletries, towels, tea/coffee sachets and electric kettle. The balcony additionally is large and is equipped with a fan for those hot Kerala evenings. We are very close to auto-rickshaw stand but you'd rather take the tuk-tuk only you the bus stop at the junction ;) touristy rickshaws will rip you! We can arrange for spa and authentic Kerala Ayurveda massages. We're very close to Samudra Beach and umpteen restaurants! Ps- no televisions is the rooms. Ask our guests have actually praised our decision of keeping the idiot box out of their vacation. We hope you'll feel the same :)
It's a quite and friendly neighbourhood with the beach one way and backwaters the other way - blissfully, both are just a 5 minutes stroll away! We're well connected to civilisation with a supermarket close by and ATM within 500mts. Tons of pharmacies with English and imported medicines. Divine supermarket with imported goods. Kovalam is the hub of relaxation and massages in Kerala. There are multitudes of resorts and Ayurveda villages around us.
  • This place is great! It's situated very conveniently near the Taj Hotel in Kovalum. There are a couple of really good restaurants within a 5 minute walk as well. The best part though was that the moment I got there I was instantly more relaxed! I'd definitely stay again if I'm in Kovalum again.

  • The house is on a small village road not too far from Samudra beach. It's a quiet little place to unwind. The arrangements were nice and welcoming. There are many beautiful beaches nearby but the favourite is bike ride away and is relatively secluded. Highly recommend place to stay and yes do not miss the breakfast in morning :)

  • Really nice place in a beautiful setting. The room was impeccably clean and had everything you'd want. In addition to this Benazir and her family members were incredibly nice and helpful throughout my stay. I will be recommending this place in future. P.s. Take up the option of breakfast if you can. It was delicious!

  • It was a wonderful start to our Kerala trip, the host was communicative and helpful from the time we made the booking. We had to change our booking due to last minute flight cancellations and Host did accommodated our changes. House was tastefully designed and rooms are big, the host were nice and helpful. The Home had nice little touches which we loved. We were traveling with our kids and they felt immediately at home, they had a blast with host’s kids. Rooms are cleaned everyday and so were the towels and bedsheets. Rooms were always spotlessly cleaned. We had breakfast all three days we were there. Breakfast was sumptuous and filling and the host customized the breakfast as per our needs. The house is located near to Taj kovalam and they are lot of restaurants nearby. We got a lot of tips from host on what’s to do while we were there. They even arranged taxi’s for us which was appreciated. I definitely recommend this place to everyone one.

  • Mathew is a very nice and polite host. At our first night he showed us the neighbourhood and a little typical indian restaurant. Also Babu who is working in the golden turtle was very kind and did a really great job. Mathew organized a taxidriver for us who catched us from the airport and drove us to different places in Kovalam next day. We felt comfortable with him. The golden turtle is an awesome house with clean rooms and really great bathrooms. We enjoyed staying there because of the peacful neighbourhood and the amazing view. Best wishes for Mathew and his team! Nadine und Corinna

  • Kovalam beach is a nice getaway from the busy citycentre of Thiruvananthapuram. The view from the apartment is at times breathtaking, the area surrounding is very peaceful atmosphere. We were sad not to have met Mathew, the owner, and only Babu, the caretaker of the property. He didn't speak English that well and at times just walked away instead of answering our questions. The apartment was quite clean, although there were lots of ants inside. Babu wanted to charge 500 Rs extra for the third bed and 100 Rs extra for internet that didn't work.

  • I fear to review this great place as it will probably get mobbed and I'll get blocked out next year! This is a fantastic large private Kovalam home, minutes pleasant walk from our yoga shala, every possible comfort included, great A/C though the house is so cleverly designed that we only used it two days in 3 weeks. Very clean new construction, lush lawn by the back verandah, great view out over the coconut palms in the sunset. In past years we have stayed at the exclusive 'CLUB' facility at the 5-star Leela luxury resort complex in Kovalam, but we enjoyed Sandhya's place a lot more. Host family is SUPER nice and did everything for us, what can I say? Just leave me a few weeks open next year!

Sandhya and her family were so warm and welcoming.. i wish we could spend more time knowing (Website hidden by Airbnb) 5 yr old son was instantly in love with the place and with sandhya's son, that he just did not want to return. The place was well equipped with all that you would need. it has a lovely veranda, with a small garden with the beautiful view... perfect place to sit with your morning cup of coffee and relax, we ended up having our breakfast also there. The light house beach is at a walking distance and autos were easily available. We had a great time.. hope to be back soon...

  • Sandhya and family met us at the place when we checked in. There was a little confusion on check-in time as we thought we could check in anytime starting the date we reserved. It ended up we could only check-in at 7pm but Sandhya arranged for a room at the resort next door so we had somewhere to wait till the place was ready. She as well as her family were really great in helping us bring all our luggage into the house. She was very welcoming and helped arrange for transportation when we needed. She was easy to get in touch with and checked in with us frequently.

The room is clean with a good air conditionned, with hot water inthe shower, the kitcheen is well equipped and we have our own little fridge, and you have a nice balcony to take a tea .... It' s a 5 mn walk to the Samudra beach ... Every morning we went to the Curry Leaf restaurant up on the hill with an amazing view to practise our music repertoire, we have lunch there sometimes ... At night the Sanjeevini restaurant is at a 3mn walk ( same path as to the beach ) and is one of the best restaurant i have eaten in India, rated number 3 by Trip Advisor but my number one ..... You can go to the light house beach by tuk tuk for a hundred rupies, you can walk also to the next beach north for ten minutes and eat at the 3rd Rock restaurant rated number one in the area by Trip Advisor ... To sum it up Ganesh house is a great place to stay ....

  • Ganesh House is a perfect spot tucked away in lush bush, 4 mins walk from Samudra beach. It's quiet and peaceful and less than an 8 min drive to Kovalam and restaurants. It has so much character and is located in the heart of a picturesque residential area with plenty of locals about. It was one of our best experiences as far as location and culture goes. A much more integrated experience than that of a hotel. Manoj and his mum are great hosts, checks in daily and quick to respond. My mum and I had a wonderful stay. The room was clean with air con a lovely little bathroom and comfy bed. We had everything we needed. I would highly recommend Ganesh House. Thanks again guys Faye

  • Manoj's amazing Ganesh House is a little heaven hidden in a local neighbourhood in the outskirts of Kovalam. The neighbourhood is nothing special, but then you arrive at Ganesh House and everything is peaceful and you have a 3 min very cosy walk to the wonderful Samudra Beach. At the beach you find the best restaurants and you a bit away from the touristy Lighthouse beach. We also loved hanging out at the next beach, Grove Beach, watching the fishermen and the many many indian tourists going into the water in their colourful dresses. Manoj is is very friendly and runs the place with his sweet mother. It is a beautiful house and very clean. We absolutely recommend it. And dont forget to eat at Curry Leaf - it was the absolutely best food we had in India!!!
