Lake
“The Lake Hayes loop track circles what is possibly the most picturesque location in the wider Queenstown region. If it’s a flat calm day, the reflections of the willow trees, reeds, mountains and lakefront houses is just magic. The two hour walk winds around the lake, by its shores or above on a ridgeline looking towards the Remarkables. ”

Lake
“The walk around Lake Hayes will reward you with beautiful views, especially on a still day, when the lake is like a mirror. Allow 1 1/2 hours for the full loop walk. Then perhaps reward yourself with coffee and cake in Arrowtown.”

Winery
“Everything about Amisfield reflects Central Otago, including the dramatic stone building that houses our acclaimed Bistro and Cellar Door. Our two-hatted restaurant experience takes you out of your culinary comfort zone, infusing an element of intrigue into everything we bring to the table. Since opening our doors in 2005, the Bistro has become an essential destination for gourmands and vinophiles. With its pitched copper roof, recycled timberwork and remarkable stonemasonry, the building cuts a silhouette as sharp as the mountains that guard it. Inside you’ll discover welcoming New Zealand hospitality, fireside and alfresco dining, flawless service and a backdrop of breathtaking beauty. ”

Route
“Arrowtown boasts a lot if history in the gold mining industry in the 1860s -90s wuth a museum and whats remaining of an old Chinese village . If you have a 4wd you should drive to Mace-town which is another 12 km. The drive has a series of river crossings so check the weather and water flow..”

Lake
“2hr loop. An easy grade walk on a well formed track providing outstanding views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Comfortable walking shoes recommended. From your accommodation you can access the Lake Hayes walkway from the farm track off Threepwood Road. The track takes you over the farm and down a fairly steep 4wd road to the Southern side of the Threepwood Farm. Here you can directly access the Lake Hayes walkway. The easier but longer option (add 1/2 hr) is to follow the QT Bike trail from Threepwood Road to Rutherford Road, where you can also directly access the walkway. Both options are very scenic, but the farm track gives you magnificent views of Remarkables and Lake Hayes.”
