  • My host was waiting for me when I arrived and made me feel welcome. Cats and dog welcoming as well. Every thing was as advertised and the lovely quiet at night was especially wonderful. Well worth the price.

  • Needing a place to stay near Jacksonville for a few weeks, I found Peace on the Prairie to be the perfect spot! Nestled in the country less than 15 miles from town, surrounded by nature, is this cozy little apartment with everything you need for a weekend getaway or an extended stay! The owners greeted me upon arrival and made sure I was familiar with the amenities. They checked in with me briefly little later on to ensure I had everything I needed, and even provided a plate of yummy cookies! The apartment is very clean and comfortable, with two futons, dining table, kitchen with full sized refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, and well stocked with dishware and cookware in very nice cabinetry. There is also a stacked washer/dryer if you need to do a load of laundry. The bathroom was very clean and towels were soft and fluffy. The owners have provided a variety of books to read if you want to kick back and relax. There is an outdoor grill as well. I would recommend Peace on the Prairie for a couples getaway or a family outing, or for a weekend getaway with friends. The owners are very nice, and the family pets are friendly as well!

  • Jaime and Kevin's place is great! Home away from home. The bed is very comfortable and you have everything you need in the apartment! Would definitely stay here again if we come thru the area in the future!

  • The prairie is beautiful in bloom. The accommodations are thoughtful, with everything needed to make your stay pleasant and relaxing. We look forward to our next visit here!!!

  • We had a wonderful (EMAIL HIDDEN)ing off of a long, rainy camping trip in WI, it was great to be able to wash and dry clothes while preparing a nice dinner and watching Netflix and chatting. It was incredibly hot during our stay so we didn't get to enjoy the wonderful wild flower view as much as we'd have liked. However, the AC and fans kept us cool and cozy inside. Bed and futon were nice and the place was incredibly well stocked with everything you could need. Kevin was very friendly and showed my daughter his honey bee colony. There were even homemade cookies upon our arrival! We would definitely stay here again when traveling through Illinois.

    Vanya2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kevin and Jaime were perfect hosts. They made me feel so welcome, provided the perfect space for my 5 week stay in the country, and were wonderful company. I highly recommend this listing. It was a pleasure in every way!

    Rachel2016-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • It was a wonderful stay here. We arrived late and left early so we didn't have a chance to meet Jaime in person (and Kevin was out of town at that moment), but they replied messages very quickly and in a friendly manner. And they left a nice, big studio room just as the pictures for us with fully trust. They offer not only a nice, clean accommodation but also a friendly, considerate, and thoughtful services(URL HIDDEN)We were welcomed by delicious cookies and M&Ms on the dining table. Everything you would need for traveling was there in the room: There's food and coffee in refrigerator and cabinets. There're clean towels and toiletries and even painkillers and first-aid kits in bathroom. They even have prepared sunscreen lotion and insect repellent for traveller. There're great books in the shelf and the holy bible and fairy tale books, Wi-Fi and Netflix so you would never feel bored at night(URL HIDDEN)We had a sweet dream and the next day we had a great time to play with friendly pets. Hopefully soon we would have another chance to visit again and next time we will spend more time to talk with them and explore the nearby area.

  • My husband and I were looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city when we stumbled upon Kevin & Jaime's Peace on the Prairie rental. We couldn't have been happier. We arrived to a fully stocked studio apartment and even fresh baked cookies! The apartment had everything you could possibly need for cooking, and the property was absolutely breathtaking. We took our dog and he loved it too. Their fishing pond is beautiful and well stocked with fish, so we spent the days on the canoe fishing and relaxing in nature. They also have plenty of walking trails which wind through the prairie and wooded areas, which we definitely took advantage of while there. Also, the apartment was VERY clean, and the wifi and Netflix made us feel right at home. Thanks so much for opening your home to us, it was just what the doctor ordered!

You’ll love my place because of the coziness and the privacy. Relax for the weekend in the country. Stay inside or explore nature in this private get away just an hour away from St. Louis

  • The Campground House was awesome! Me and 7 other people stayed here which still remained comfortable. It was super clean and organized, came with a crazy amount of amenities, and our host was fantastic! Brad's parents made us homemade blackberry jam and apple butter which was delicious! The location was very secluded, out in the country but me and the other guests really enjoyed that aspect. No complaints here, just a whole lotta love! Fantastic stay!!

  • Great place to stay on Carlinville.

    David 2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • The place and hosts are incredible. Rendall has installed sound and light systems all over the place ! You can have music next to the campfire (radio/aux), on the patio and inside the home. Everything is easily accessible and well identified. You can use as much wood as you want for campfires, and we ate BBQ every single day ! You can eat inside, on the patio or in the little shed next to the lake which is very nice for rainy days (1 rainy night during our 8-day stay !) So much good things to say about the campground house. We had an amazing time and the weather was wonderful.

  • We came into the area for State Wrestling Competition in Springfield. The home was about 40/50 minutes from Springfield. It offered us a quiet relaxing place to go after being at the competition for 5-7 hours. It did just that!!! It'll the home had plenty of space for the 6 of us! The owners left a goodie basket with homemade apple butter and jam. Everything was clean and they had games and stuff to help keep us (mainly my 7 year old!) occupied. Brad was so responsive to any questions that we had. We didn't even know he had a baby the first night we were there! His mom came down to check on us and make sure we had everything we needed. We talked about coming in the summer or fall when it's warmer and pretty. Loved the Campground House!

    Alissa2017-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Campground House! We were traveling south to view the solar eclipse, but wanted to avoid taffic. The Campground House property is private and secluded, but close enough to stores and restaurants to avoid being isolated. I enjoyed relaxing by the pond and wandering around the property. I saw a HUGE fish, a small turtle, and a tiny snake in the pond. The house was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed, plus many extras. We enjoyed meeting our hosts and appreciated knowing they were close by in case we needed anything. I highly recommend the Campground House for a relaxing getaway, you won't be disappointed.

  • This place is absolutely amazing!!!! From the ponds outside to the beautifully decorated home inside. You guys were wonderful!! I can't think of a better place to spend some quiet quality time with the family. I lived in Carlinville most of my childhood and never knew this place was even there. So secluded and wonderful!! Thank you so much for sharing your own little paradise with me and my family.

This "tiny house" Cottage is tree house themed and sleeps up to 6 with a queen size bed in the master bedroom, a king bed in the sleeping loft and a sofa bed in the living room, private bath, open porch and scenic view of the lake, vineyards and surrounding area. Also an easy stroll away from The Winery at Shale Lake. Guests to all Shale Lake cabins and cottages are subject to a 3% Local Hotel Tax due upon check-in and separate from any taxes paid or collected by Airbnb.
HIKING TRAILS There are 212 acres available for exploring. The entire perimeter has some form of fencing (some chain link and some barbed wire). There are a few interior chain link fences as well. You are welcomed to explore the entire property except for the outbuildings. There are a few wooded trails that are maintained annually. HILLTOP VIEW There are horses in the pastures in front and behind the cottages. VINEYARD The vineyard is approximately 14 acres planted in 2007. There are 74 600' rows. We have 6 varieties of grapes: Norton, Chambourcin, Marechal Foch, Vignole, Cayuga and Traminette. LAKE Our 24 acre lake was reclaimed in the 80’s. The lake averages 5’ deep - if you fall in, STAND UP! Cabin guests may fish, CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY. We have crappie, bass, catfish and bluegill. FOWL, FUR and SHELL We host a lot more than humans at Shale Lake! You may see a Grey Heron soaring in for the night and occasionally a white one, too. We have Swans and White Northern Pelicans stopping almost every year. We also have at least 3 Barred Owls, a pair of Red Tail Hawks and a mating pair of Bald Eagles that winter in the north woods. We have more than our share of turtles including some snapping turtles the size of a tire! If you find one hibernating in a creek, best to leave it alone! WOODED BOUNTY We have some unusual plants and trees. The old coal mine employed as many as 700 people. There were buildings in and around the woods. The buildings are gone but you will find cactus thriving in the shale dust and a huge bed of iris blooms (planted by office ladies). We have a yucca grove, pecan & walnut trees, plus apple and persimmon trees. The old metal stove was not grown but rather thrown here by locals using the property as a dump. There is a lot of really cool, really old stuff. Please feel free to explore and take any trash…ehh..treasures with you!
Shale Lake is located on 211 acres of the former Mt. Olive and Staunton Coal Company Mine #2 and The Winery at Shale Lake is the only "Coal Winery" in Illinois (one of only 2 in the US). The property was reclaimed in the 1980's. Susan and David Wesa purchased the property in 2006 and renamed it Shale Lake after the 46 acres of shale hills leftover from the mine. In 2007 they planted the vineyard and opened the horse boarding stables. The Winery (with tasting room) was opened in 2010 and produces 2,000 gallons of wine annually. • Absolutely adorable and exactly what we wanted for a cozy weekend in for our anniversary. Kitchen lacked some pans for cooking, but other than that, we had a beautifully wonderful time. Close enough to town if we needed anything it was easy to find. Beautiful scenery and clean cozy cabin. We will be back!!

    Danielle 2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • It was nice, peaceful, and very relaxing. Not exactly what we were expecting from the description and pictures. Whoever staff was very friendly and helpful and we had a good weekend.

    Albert 2016-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I stayed in "Snob Hill" for a girls' weekend retreat. It was a wonderful experience. The cabin was very clean and comfortable! We loved sitting on the deck in the morning enjoying the peace and quiet, and watching a fisherman on the lake. David was very nice, and I was impressed with his dedication to keeping the property safe. They have a gate that requires a security code to enter if you're out after 10pm, and any guests you bring in must be gone by 10pm. I would have preferred a little later "curfew" but didn't mind too much, because it gave my friend and I time to enjoy once our friends left. There were two TVs, one in each bedroom, and the upper loft bedroom had a four foot ceiling. Cozy enough, but slightly awkward getting around up there. The decor was very rustic...perfect for our taste. We didn't eat there, so I can't speak to that, but they did advertise a live band on certain nights (I don't remember which). Overall, this was a remarkable experience!!

  • Gorgeous. Tranquil. And there are horses.

    John F2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Pictures don't quite capture how nice the cottage is. It is designed top to bottom with comfort and convenience in mind. We loved our stay and are recommending it to all our friends.

    J-T2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great place off the beaten path. The tiny house we stayed in had a great porch overlooking horses grazing and a picturesque lake. The winery on site has a lot of choices of wine and surprisingly delicious food. Highly recommended!

    Mike2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you've always wanted to try a tiny house, this is for you! It's a nice trailer that is set out by a horse pasture, very beautiful and serene. bring your own tea bags and band aids, there are minimal amenities. If you run out of toilet paper, coffee or anything you are expected to buy your own, per the "house rules" booklet. The dishes can't go in the micro wave, bring some paper plates if you think you'll need them.

"Millionaires' Row" is a quiet street with many lovely houses very near all the local attractions
  • Tim's house is a very lovely Victorian house in a beautiful small town. It reminded me of the small town in Gilmore Girls. Tim and his wife were very attentive and sweet. There's a Walmart a short distance away. A gorgeous town circle. There's an amazing steakhouse nearby, not 15 mins away. If I was anywhere near Carlinville again, this is where I would stay.

    Mello2017-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Tim's place was as he described it. Tim and his family are very welcoming and eager to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. I would definitely recommend staying here.

  • Tim's setup is great! You have your own private bathroom connected to your room. The house is very clean and Tim is incredibly hospitable! There's also a very cute town only a 5 min drive away. I highly recommend this place to anyone!

We had a own private bathroom that spacious and clean as well! Take the walking tour of the historic Sears homes...you won't regret it! A gem here!!

We love the quiet, peaceful nature sounds. Our neighbors are too far to see, but close enough to help out if needed. The stars are so bright in the country, and deer, turkey and pheasants are always seen.
  • John and Vicki were very welcoming. All the little touches throughout the home were spot on. The home was comfortable and all conviences we needed were provided. Beautiful setting, with trails, berries and wild life. Without doubt the most relaxing vacation my family and I have been on. If you want to experiences country living with all the necessities this place is for you. John and Vicki are very accommodating host and make every effort to make your stay comfortable!!

    Paula2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • The place is cute and mostly comfortable. The hosts were quick to accommodate an early check in which saved us having to find the place in the middle of the night. The air conditioning was great. I liked sitting on the porch for a short while and my husband enjoyed reading in the bay window. We were interested in two bedrooms. The second room, however, to our surprise, was an outbuilding off to the side that had a lot of spiders and spiderwebs, too many to house our daughter. Thankfully, the couch in the main house pulled out to a bed and we were spared there. We were more than surprised and disappointed after we arrived to learn we had to place paper products for the toilet in a trash can. Between the second bedroom and lack of plumbing, we would have stayed elsewhere. There is a stream, but no access to it. Cute place if you want to sit on the porch and read.

    Denise2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Home is so nice. It is real farm house with great history and warm soul! Good run route nearby with very nice nature and animals. I so deer, rabbits, birds, squirrels. John was very kind and organized a tour on his farm.

    Albina2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • John was a most welcoming and considerate host. His communication before and during our stay was excellent. The farmhouse and homey and charming. It was surrounded by farmland and woods and created a peaceful setting for a great rest. The summer kitchen (converted to a bedroom) was really cute. We appreciated the cookies baked by Vicki and other morning breakfast items left for your use. We highly recommend. Thanks!

    Trudy2015-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • We decided we needed a nice quiet weekend away, and booked this only a couple days in advance. We have a very enjoyable, restful weekend in the country on John and Vicki's farm / wildlife reserve. The house was spotless and very much as described. This is rural central Illinois at its best. John took the time to show us around the property, made excellent winery and restaurant recommendations, and went to great lengths to assure our comfort. He even left bacon, eggs, OJ, milk, and stuff for us to make breakfast. Bottom line, we were very happy we stayed, and hope to do so again sometime.

    Michael & Jeri2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • John and Vicki were so welcoming, even during a pretty heavy down pour! The farmhouse was exactly what we were looking for in an escape--a quiet and semi-remote place with a lot to do outside. The pictures are accurate, as are the descriptions provided. Games, puzzles, and dvd/vcr are available for use--if you have young kids bring dvds for them, the selection available is great (Dirty Dancing!) but not targeted for littles. All in all, it was a lovely stay, even if we had to cut it short due to weather (constant rain) induced cabin fever. We're definitely taking John up on the IOU to come back and tour the wineries in the future! Thanks for letting me take home all the delicious cookies...they were fantastic!

    Felisa2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • It is definitely off the beaten path, but is a great cottage. We were passing through on our road trip home, but hope to come back sometime and really enjoy what the farm has to offer.

  • We stayed at Pheasant Valley Farms on our way down to southern Illinois to view the total solar eclipse. John was a wonderful host. He made us feel very at home. He gave us a tour of his farm/vineyard and even brought us watermelon for a treat in the evening. Thanks, John. We loved the farmhouse!

Holiday Shores rural community surrounds a private 500 acre lake located 30 miles north east of St Louis. Semi-easy access to freeways. Room: Double bed, private full bath across hall. Limited kitchen&laundry privileges. Seasonal swim&dock fishing.
The house is a two story walkout with the main living quarters above. The front entance is a covered porch with wicker seating. Inside, large windows provide a view of the lake. A back patio door opens to an uncovered deck. Downstairs, the media room has the largest television and most comfortable sectional sofa. There is also an area with a small wet bar. However most of that room is currently overrun with my ebay invetory. Glass doors open to an uncovered patio and cteps to the back lawn and boat dock. A full bath is also on the lower level.
Search for turtles along our sea wall. Walk around the neighborhood and enjoy the flowers and the differnt syles of backyard landscaping Notice the variations of docks construction and nautical decorations. Enjoy a lakefront casual restraunt with indoor and outdoor dining.
  • Our stay at Barbara's was perfect in every way. The location at Holiday Shores was charming and very peaceful. Barbara and her husband Steven did everything they could to make sure our stay was comfortable.

  • This listing is a supreme steal for anyone visiting near Edwardsville. Folks will have their own judgments about the drive into St. Louis; I traveled to and from. Obviously, Edwardsville is closer. Either way, the experience was well worth the drive for me. Barb and Steve are exquisite hosts. The accommodations are perfect for 1; just fine for a couple. The house is spotless. Wifi is great. Parking pad is super. The dogs are small and they will bark at you. One was very happy to see me and jumped and jumped; the other was less pleased with me and just barked. They'll bark when you are together. Barb and Steve keep them, mostly, in rooms away from guests; they are virtually silent when not in the same room as guests. I am one of the less dog friendly people I know and the dogs were just fine with me. No troubles, no worries. They are, however, in the picture for your consideration. In all . . . PURRRFECT. (opps... no cats) = ; >

  • Barbara is a very accommodating host. The home is in a beautiful setting on a peaceful lake. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good with many choices. The house is a little off the beaten track but a good option if your travels take you in the vicinity. There are two small dogs, who can get agitated with new guests; but they were quiet during the night.

    Steven2015-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • Barb and Steve were gracious hosts and their home is beautiful. Be prepared for their cute little toy poodles. They bark when you enter but Barb handles them very well and they didn't bark when I was in my room And Barb would put them up if I needed to be in the kitchen.

This A-Frame home is right on the lake! You’ll love it because of the great views of the lake and the vaulted ceilings and loft that give it a real cabin feel! It is extremely clean and offers your own private bedroom and bathroom. It's a great house for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers.

  • Ben's place was great to stay at! The house and the lake were extremely relaxing. Ben had complimentary water and snacks, and was very helpful for our visit. If you're staying in this part of Illinois, I would highly recommend you stay here!

    James2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Ben's house was a great weekend getaway. Access to the lake was awesome. We were fortunate enough to have the whole house and the setting provided a wonderful retreat. We would definitely consider booking the house again.

  • An absolutely beautiful place to stay! Exceeded our expectations. Very spacious living arrangements and sunset on the lake was magical! We're birders, so enjoyed the surrounding woods the next morning.

    Judith2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • The house has a beautiful view of the lake. We enjoyed having coffee on the east facing deck and watching the sun rise. The house was well lit upon our after-dark arrival. It's in a nice, safe and quiet residential neighborhood built around the lake. Coffee, water bottles and pretzels were a nice touch.

    Tracey2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Ben and his "A" frame on the lake were amazing! The lake was a fisherman's dream. We caught everything from bass to crappie to giant channel cats. It was the perfect retreat from the city... We were so impressed that we have started the search to purchase our own place on the lake. We will definitely be back!

    Scott2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Ben's lake house was both beautiful and affordable. The quiet and serene environment was perfect for our little getaway. Thank you so much for being an amazing host Ben, we really enjoyed our time by the lake.

Spacious private room 40 minutes from St. Louis! Located in a small, safe, rural community. We are a grown family. One child has left the nest and the other is on her way out. With a spare bedroom just wasting away, we would love to meet fellow adventurers and send them into the city with recommendation of all our favorite stops. Can't wait to meet you!
Small and Rural. There is a great coffee shop and a few local dives we would love to recommend.
  • Laura and her family are great. They were super hospitable and made us coffee in the morning. Laura is a prompt and helpful communicator. The space was great too. I recommend this spot.

Eclectic, cozy, cottage feel in a quiet neighborhood.
Highland, Illinois is a quiet "Norman Rockwell-ish" type of town complete with a town square, fountain and all! Check out their website (URL HIDDEN) or visit their (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) page for events such as Street Art, Switzerfest, Kirchenfest, and Art in the Park. House is located on the south side of town in a quiet neighborhood. During your stay, you can park on the right side of the driveway. After you arrive and receive your key, feel free to come and go as you please. Highland has some great parks with beautiful walking paths if you want to stretch your legs or just take a stroll. There is also a great indoor recreational facility where you can swim laps or walk the tide pool. Feel free to use the living room to relax in and the kitchen to cook in! You are welcome to use the refrigerator to store any food you are traveling with. The back yard is referred to by guests as the secret garden as you feel secluded from the neighbors among the Wild Cherry Trees, Eldeberry Bushes, and other butterfly loving plants! At least until winter! Musical? The baby grand piano in the living room is always ready to be played! Or check out local hotspots for some great bands. There are even a few open mic nights if you want to perform! Never worry about making too much noice as the owner stays downstairs in the secluded lower floor. Send a message with any questions you have!
  • Sharon is extremely hospitable and warm. She had something else going on the night that I stayed there, and actually let me stay alone in her home alone, which I thought was very generous-hearted (and trusting). She even encouraged me (via text) to raid the fridge! Everything was clean and neat, and the room was very large. The bed was the biggest one I have ever seen, and was really comfortable. I really enjoyed my stay and would book her place again if I return to the area.

    Rhonda2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon's house is a lovely gem with a wonderful back yard. She was a delight to talk to, and even got us eclipse glasses. Excellent communication, great time.

  • My 6 week business stay here was absolutely awesome. The facility is very clean. The staff is friendly and professional. The complimentary breakfast was nice and balanced. The overall value was superb. For anyone looking for a safe place to stay that is in range of the St. Louis area, this is it. You won't regret it. I'm already planning to return with family within a year's time for vacation.

  • The room is in a hotel but very clean and well kept. Breakfast is a hot and well balanced. The hotel is centrally located in Edwardsville. We stayed in a room on the 3rd floor which unfortunately was directly below the ventilation system on the roof so our room was very loud but the front desk was very accomodating and gave us another room which was perfect. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

  • The thing my wife and I most love about ABB is that in this time of under performance in most everything we buy, eat, and experience. We can generally count on getting back what is being offered by a host. Myrna and Joe went so far and above in their attention to us and our experience, while staying with them. This Incredible 100 year old house has been lovingly restored, and yet the amenities were modern while not taking away from the architectural integrity that flooded your senses. We were a block off the town square, and took in a clock tower tour, and walked through a farmers market being held. The B&B is only 30 minutes from Springfield, and the President Lincoln everything. Do not miss this experience!

  • David was really a host of all host. Hey went above and beyond every day I stayed. I honestly couldn't have asked for anything better. The amenities are amazing and as stated, David is just out of this world as a host. I will be staying there again the next time I am in the area. Thank you David for everything! Including the surprise breakfast!

    Jeremy & Jennifer2017-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Dave was a wonderful host. He is such a kind man and took extra steps to ensure I was comfortable. Thanks, Dave, for letting me stay:-)

    Yvette2016-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • My stay with David lasted for about a month. And, without a doubt, it was a great experience. Although some of the things in his house may be a little antiquated, living at his place was worthwhile considering the space, large HD tv, appliances, kitchen tools, pool, and other amenities you are allowed to use. His house has 3 different levels. So if one thing is not at your liking, you'll probably find satisfaction on the next level. David is a respectable host who will check in daily, if not more, to see if your B&B needs are being met. I enjoyed meeting his family one time and learning all I can about Godfrey and Alton, among other things. All in all, I believe David's place was the best AirBnB deal in the Godfrey/Alton area.

    Joshua2017-08-14T00:00:00Z

    Mark2017-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • David's Place has many perks. He does a great job explaining everything the place has to offer. If you like being outside this place has everything! If you want a quiet place to relax or a place close to the many activities the area has to offer, this is it! If you are looking for the most up to date decorating then you most likely will not like it as well as I did.

    Mark2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • David was exactly the kind of host that you want. He is warm, friendly, and generous. He even went as far as offering food and drink while we talked in the kitchen. His house offers a ton of space as it offered 3 rooms to choose from to sleep in. The basement offered a variety of activities to do for free. I think that this would be ideal for families with kids that don't mind a lived in feel to the house. My main disappointments were that 1) the pool was closed for the season and 2) the house was incredibly dated. I chose this option based on the hot tub, fireplace, and pool. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and I liked that there were so many amenities that we could choose to explore St. Louis or stay in. I even checked the weather ahead to see if it was worth spending the extra money on a place with a pool. Since it was going to be 85 and 89 all weekend I booked. I should have messaged David before bookingto ensure that it would be running in October. Lesson learned. Like wise, I was under the impression that it was close to the city based on the description. Again, I should have taken the 2 minutes to (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) it. It's about 45 mins from all the action in St. Louis. Again, lesson learned. My actual disappointment and surprise was from the house itself. It was pretty clean and it smelled nice, but it was very outdated. Everything from stained lace doily curtains, to faded wall paper. It was like everything was furnished with cheep garage sale finds. No real judgement there. That's my home too. Hand me down furniture and Thrift Shop stuff. I just expected that it would be more elegant for $170. We decided to leave early because it wasn't setting the mood that you look for in a get away weekend. Again, David was an excellent host. Honestly, if it was a different kind of trip I wouldn't have cared at all. It is very family friendly. Also, if you do stay you must go to the German coffee house! Best coffee house I ever been to period! It also is a self serve beer bar in the evening. Loved it!

Karen communicated quickly and made sure we always had what we needed, including offering restaurant and Springfield tourism info.

  • Wow, Great neighborhood with a wildlife sanctuary environment facing the entrance to this well equipped apartment. I paid $80 total and a comparable hotel room with bedroom would run around $160 in the area. Nice couch, Kithcen and bedroom with a center island for dining. Dishwasher, stove, microwave, fridge, coffeemaker and all the utensils and dishes you will need. I'm telling you, ya can't go wrong at this price. The deer and bunnies out the door are a bonus. Nice neighborhood too.

  • Pictures don't do Karen's semi-basement apartment justice! It's must larger and more beautiful than we were expecting it to be. Very comfortable and tastefully decorated, and in a sweet quiet wooded and wildlifed neighborhood on the southern edge of Springfield. Karen runs a very tight ship, so be prepared to pay for laundry and bottles of water, but the price of the rental is so very reasonable that the extra little costs you might run up for extra service is completely worth it. Thanks so much Karen!

  • I loved how the place was separate and private from the actual house. It was a beautiful place and to be honest prefered to relax than explore! Everything was provided and we felt like we were at home. The place was cheap for what it had to offer. I would recommend staying here if you want to tour Springfield. It was about 20 minutes away from Springfield.

  • Super cute apartment with easy access to I-55. Karen was quick to respond to any questions or concerns I had. Great exercise room.

  • This listing is centrally located, close to the highway and nearby Springfield. It is also in a quiet neighborhood, which is nice. Overall, the listing was relatively clean. One concern with cleanliness was there were some cobwebs in the living room we noticed on our first night. Other than that, I would say the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to make meals and while the bedroom got pretty hot at night, there is a small fan provided to guests. The space itself was moderately sized with enough space for what we needed it for. Unlike many listings on airbnb, this listing does charge a guest fee for children under 2 years old. There was, however, a play pack provided for our infant which was helpful. Breakfast items are also offered by the host for $5 per day per adult. The items are purchased and left in the fridge for guests to prepare which is convenient. I am giving this listing 4/5 stars.

  • Karen was a fantastic hostess. She is an excellent communicator, and her home is clean, chic, and absolutely charming. We got in a little bit later than we expected and she came right out to greet us, and had excellent advice about where to visit in Springfield. We would definitely stay again!!

My home is a split-level structure. The guest bedroom and family room is downstairs. It is well lit with windows and lighting. The guest room opens to a family room; you can work online at the bar, play pool, use the treadmill, or listen to music. Futon opens to a twin/full size. A queen-size air mattress is also available. There is a half bath downstairs as well. Upstairs leads into the living area, dining space, open kitchen, and full bathroom. You have complete access to this bathroom all to yourself. Large backyard; close to biking/running trails.
Nice neighborhood with friendly neighbors. Great for walking, jogging, etc., and there is a walk/bike path access from my neighborhood.
  • PERFECT location right off I-70 before St Louis. QUIET neighborhood, CLEAN, spacious, comfortable, place & LOVELY hosts made this the perfect place! Deanna has thought of everything to make guests feel welcome. She kindly waited up for my late arrival and included thoughtful breakfast items. As a single woman traveler I was very comfortable in everyway. Plus, I'm not a dog fan but Lela was very well-trained and no bother in the least. From my experience as an AirBnB guest/host I'm sure Deanna is well on her way to super host status. I can highly recommend!

  • Deanna was incredibly welcoming and friendly! I enjoyed her company and she even provided me breakfast in the morning. Thank you!

    Chantel2017-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • Deanna went above and beyond what was expected. We arrived to a neat, clean, and welcoming space equipped with fresh water bottles as well as a personal note from Deanna welcoming us. She was extremely quick with her responses and was very accommodating. She went above and beyond the next morning by having fresh fruit, juice, coffee, and cinnamon cake available for us. She even used her fancy china! We enjoyed our stay tremendously and highly recommend. Deanna made us feel so at home!!

    Andrea2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Deanna's place is clean and comfortable and we recommend it! She was very friendly and sociable and enjoyed spending time with us. She even had breakfast!

    Kelly2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Deanna is hands down the best host ever! Her place is more than we ever expected and you can't get any better. She has a great location, easy to find from the highway. Plus she's super close to St. Louis without the congestion. Friendly, inviting, warm hearted and takes such good care of her guests. It felt like we knew her forever instead of meeting her for the first time. So easy to work with, excellent communication and then when we arrived, it was the best place we stayed at during our whole trip. Would stay here anytime and wish we could take her with us. Thank you Deanna for the kind, warm person you were, for opening your home to strangers and making us feel welcome. You go beyond all expectations!

  • Well all the previous reviews were spot on. From the beginning reservation correspondence through waving goodbye to us in the driveway, Deanna was the quintessential host. Her home is very welcoming and kid friendly. She is an amazing person with a beautiful heart. We highly recommend her and her home.

My place is close to the St. Louis international airport and amtrak station. Our location is ideal for walking to marina, antique stores, specialty shops, restaurants, ampitheater, and casino. We also have riverviews from our Itailian inspired garden..
This space is the smallest of our rooms. If interested in more space the entire inn can be rented. Please refer to the listing through airbnb for entire bed and breakfast. The garden room has a antique full size bed which is perfect for one person or two people. The bed has recently been upgraded for comfort.
We are located in the historic district of Alton within walking distance to local shops, restaurants. gambling casino, amphitheater, marina, and biking trails.
  • We enjoyed our stay at the Inn. The decor was unique and very interesting which gave the Inn a homey feeling. The Inn was very neat and clean having plenty of towels in the large bath. We will book earlier on our next trip to get one of the large suites.

  • Located in downtown commercial area but generally quiet. Lynne is very accommodating & the room was spotless. "Garden Room" refers to decor not location, however there is a garden off of the common room while can be used in nice weather. Bath across the hall is spacious & even has an iron & ironing board.

    Sara2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lynne's place is a stones throw from all the action in Alton. She has done an amazing job with the outdoor patio and walkway. You really feel transformed to Europe there! You can tell that Lynne has been a b&b host for some time and is taking the time to learn the ins and outs of Airbnb. She's very responsive to needs--took care of a lighting issue for me with graciousness.

    Jennifer2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Lynne's place was wonderful! Room was lovely and very clean, we also enjoyed the gourmet tea selection at her shop downstairs. Sitting in the garden was very scenic and private. Would definitely stay again!
