Neighbourhood
“When you get to Little Village (or La Villita as the locals call it), you’ll be greeted by the terracotta arch over 26th Street that reads “bienvenidos a Little Village”. This is the neighborhood’s main drag, a two-mile stretch of global grocery stores, mouth-watering bakeries, colorful murals, and storefronts brimming with dazzling quinceañera dresses and leather Western wear. Stop into one of the many taquerias serving up made-to-order tacos. El Milagro Tortilleria is a local favorite, where the tortillas are made fresh in house. Make sure to pick up a treat from the passing paletero (push cart vendors selling frozen treats). Or grab a tamale to go from one of the food carts that line the street. The Open Center for the Arts is another great stop. This art center and gallery that encourages and showcases work by emerging and aspiring local artists. It’s just one of the many ways to experience the spirit of this culturally rich neighborhood.”
