Quaint three bedroom New England castle with expansive grounds and charming views. Please note: as of January 2017, no children under 12 years of age allowed. Thank you!
Our castle was built in 1917 on seven acres by a prosperous Ellington family whose trip to England had inspired the fulfillment of a childhood dream to own a castle. In early 2000, a brilliant artist purchased the castle and dedicated five years to refurbishing and beautifying it. The kitchen is modern with new appliances, the dishwasher having been replaced last year. Downstairs there is a large dining room, a living room with a fireplace, and an inside porch guarded by a medieval knight. Upstairs, each spacious bedroom announces a theme: the jungle room, the Romeo-Juliet room, and an elegant burgundy room with a balcony and bistro set for morning coffee. The grounds offer gardens, a fountain, a gazebo by a pond, and a pergola overlooking another garden with a gargoyle hunched on its pedestal. There is also a trail for leisurely walks up and behind the woods. Points of interest: Bradley Airport, Mark Twain Museum in Hartford, The Bushnell, and The Atheneum Museum are all 20 minutes away by car. Crystal Lake and Shenipsit Lake are less than ten minutes away. Also, 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City.
  • Overall, quality matches the price.

  • What an adorable little castle! Perfect weekend getaway. Maria was a very communicative host.

    Patty2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Never met Maria, but her call-backs (returned phone calls) were friendly and informative. Trust me, a castle is a cozy place to ride out a snowstorm.

    Michael2015-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • My mum, my 9month old and I had a lovely stay at this quirky and original home. We had good communication with Maria throughout the stay. I would recommend this home for couples or families with very young (not walking) and older children unless they are very well behaved as there is a lot of glass, metal and wood knick knacks within easy grasping reach but this makes for a very atmospheric stay, she even has a robin family nesting on the window ledge of the African room! The beds in all 3 rooms are very comfortable and the house was very clean. There is AC in the master bedroom but nowhere else so a summer stay will be quite warm, we only found one fan. The only improvement would be to have a better selection of non-stick cookware available- there wasn't enough for the 2 of us to cook (despite there being loads of utensils!) and what was there had baked on grime that we spent quite some time scrubbing off. There is ample room for family entertaining. We would come back.

  • The Cozy Storybook Castle is an interesting place to stay. The home is easy to find and located on a main road just about an hour from the Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry. The home itself is filled with interesting details and furniture that appears to be carefully picked out to fit in with the castle theme. Also, the floors and furniture were clean and dust free! The bed in the master bedroom is comfortable and there is a window air conditioning unit for those concerned about the cooling system when booking a summer stay. However, the remaining portion of the home was quite warm (we had the misfortune of visiting on a 90 degree day). My husband and I agreed that the fall would be the perfect time to visit and the home would probably be cozy in the winter as well. In regard to "things to do" near the castle, my husband I and enjoyed The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk, which was only about 20 minutes away. The outdoor mall features many restaurants and ample shopping! We were only at the castle for two nights, so we did spend a lot of time just sitting outside reading in one of the many available tables.

  • "European Vacation Where Everyone Spoke English" We reserved the castle for an 80th birthday celebration for my mother. We had an AMAZING stay! It was cozy, elegant, yet comfortable feeling. It was clean and our hostess, Maria, is a 'hot ticket'! Loved our conversations and was right there when we needed her for anything! Kudos for making this trip amazing! Hopefully, you will have liked us and will have us back! :)

    Annette2015-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful, unique, and charming little castle! The pictures on the site are extremely accurate. Very clean and extremely well maintained. Although I never got a chance to actually meet Maria, she was always responsive, friendly, and helpful. If I am not mistaken, part (or all) of the proceeds from renting this castle go to charity. So you are doing good while on vacation. Highly recommend if you are in pursuit of a unique home away from home.

    Travis2014-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is an incredible, unique property that is perfect for a quiet getaway. The castle is very spacious and well-equipped. The bedrooms are comfortable and inventively decorated. Ellington is a small town but there are lots of interesting places within a short drive to visit. Maria was a very friendly and communicative host. I couldn't recommend this more highly.

  • Shelia's house was perfect! Way more spacious than I was expecting. It was a breeze getting in and Shelia was easy to communicate with. The house was perfect for our 2 small kids. They loved playing in the backyard and walking to the creamery to feed the goats. We would love to come visit again!

    Rob2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • My mom and I had a great stay!! Sheila is easy to communicate with, check in is seamless and the place is exactly as described.

  • This is a wonderful place to stay. Wonderful views, community, and location.

    Sayra2017-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Shiela responded so quickly and was very flexible in our stay as she let us check out late. The house is charming, secluded, and very well kept. I would 100% stay here again.

    Tiffany2017-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for a wedding in the area and Sheila's place was exactly what we were looking for in accommodations. The space is roomy and easily fit the 6 of us. We were there on a Sunday and Monday so we weren't able to get out to Treehouse brewery which is nearby, but I would definitely stay at Sheila's again on a trip dedicated to getting to the brewery.

    Alex2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila's place is perfect for relaxing with a really nice creamery nearby and is walking distance to Tree House Brewing. She's a great host, and we'll certainly be back.

  • Newly renovated, clean, and very accommodating. Enjoyed my extended 11 day stay there. Highly recommend for this area you will not find something as nice at this price point.

  • We loved this loft unit! Everything you need, really comfortable bed and super cute area close to awesome antique shops and restaurants. Palmer is full of wonderful people!

    April2017-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Robin was very accomodating of our later arrival time and even made sure we were well served at The Steaming Tender despite it being near to closing time by then. The loft unit located nearby was spotless, attractively furnished, stocked and well laid out. We were provided with breakfast vouchers for the restaurant in the morning at which there were plenty of appetizing options. The only thing to note which is really a personal preference is that the mattress had a very thick pillow top which prevented me from being able to sleep there at all as it caused severe back pain. I'm sure this could be changed if mentioned beforehand and my boyfriend slept fine despite it.

    Samantha2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, well furnished, clean and cozy. The hosts were extremely helpful with check-in, cleaned up the rooms during the second day. Complimentary snacks and muffins were extra nice touch. Overall its a great place, located in a train depot, next to a great restaurant, we got priority seating for dinner, and vouchers for breakfast on Sunday. Great stay!

  • Carolyn has an amazing house. It was exactly as described and perhaps even better. She was very accommodating when we had a last minute add- on, literally the day of.

    Sandra2015-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn was very accommodating and left a concise list answering all your questions (wifi, lock, heat AC etc.) which I very much appreciated! The house is in a peaceful, quiet location right on the water. Exactly what we needed.

    Kellen2016-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • We rented Carolyn's cottage for our trip down to the Brimfield Antique Show. It couldn't have been more cozy or more convenient. It's right next to a nice beach and lake and is, at most, a 10 minute drive from the show. Being so close it was easy for my girlfriend and I to get to the show early and get a jump on the crowds. As for the cottage, it was clean, comfortable and on a nice street lined with other nice cottages. Carolyn was a generous host and left us a nice welcome basket, as well. We'll definitely be looking to rent again.

  • We had a lovely stay at Hope Cottage, stopping there mid-way between our home and a family member's for a couple of nights. Originally we intended to check out Old Sturbridge Village but the cottage was so relaxing we just enjoyed coffee by the lake, a nap on the porch and lounging on the comfy couches instead. We enjoyed a walk through the neighborhood where there are at least two historic cemeteries. (My partner is a history buff so he enjoyed this aspect). The cottage is homey and lived-in. And Carolyn left eggs and even home-made cookies! We recommend bringing food to cook as dining options in the area are limited without taking at least a 20 min. ride.

    Tara2014-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful experience at the Hope Cottage. The location is fantastic, especially for the antique markets. I would highly recommend this cottage and would absolutely love to stay here again.

    Lorna2013-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Charming cottage just half a block from a peaceful lake with benches for sunset viewing or picnics. Carolyn kindly left breakfast fixings including fresh fruit. Great location for the brimfield show, only short drive on non busy roads. Shopping cart in cottage. Would recommend salem croft Inn for dinner...had both gluten free and vegetarian options. Thanks carolyn.

    olivia2016-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn's Hope Cottage was PERFECT for our weekend getaway! She surprised us by leaving breakfast snacks, fresh fruit, and supplies (including sticks!) to make s'mores on the fire pit in the back yard. We used her kayaks to float for hours on the lake next to the cottage. The space was very clean and organized and felt like home. The summer home filled neighborhood was quiet, clean, and friendly! Thanks, Carolyn!

    Ryan2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I took our two young daughters to stay at Hope Cottage at the end of August. We loved the very short walk to the beach (three houses away!) and the homey feel. The location is perfect for relaxing, visiting Old Sturbridge Village, or Brimfield, of course. We also loved our visits to Westview Farms for dinner and ice cream, the Wales Irish Pub, and Treehouse Brewing Company. Highly recommend!

  • This little cottage is so charming! It retains its 40s design but is updated for today. The addition (sleeping porch) is perfect: beds are good, it's quiet, and you can either let in the night air or use the combo A/C-heat unit (there's another one in the living room). The place is very very well equipped with everything you might need, and your hosts will make sure you get anything else you require. Highly recommend.

  • Great lake cottage with everything you need to spend time relaxing. Nice attention to details!

    Donald2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful place to stay, especially if you are looking for somewhere to relax, unwind and disconnect a bit but still have options to get out there and explore the area. This home is cozy and quaint and we loved the decor. Cathy was there at any moment to answer any questions via text day or night. This is not a complaint or con of the home, but remember to bring an iron or some wrinkle release because there are no dressers or closets. Again. It was not a problem for us at all, but just a heads up for those who may find it unexpected. I traveled with my sister and my daughter who is 5 and we had an amazing time. The experience was just as I was hoping, spending time at the lake as well as getting out during the day for fun adventures in surrounding towns. I would recommend this home to others again and again.

    Denise2017-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was everything it claimed to be. Catherine and Leif are great hosts and we appreciated all the extra special touches that made our stay that much more enjoyable.

    Kimberly2017-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • We felt at home in Cathy's lovely rustic cabin by a beautiful lake. Cathy was there to greet us when we arrived and immeditly we felt right at home. She left us plenty of supplies milk, bread home made delicious brownies, eggs and fresh fruit. She had a wealth of knowledge of the local area advising us of local walks etc and was only a plone call away. Very close to Brimfield antique fair, without the massive issues associated with Brimfield Sturgridge route. Thanks Cathy for you wonderfull hospitality. Kathy

    Kathy2016-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice quaint cottage, outdoor shower that was a cool experience, kayaks and canoes with easy access to the lake and very gracious and generous hosts

    Kevin2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Cathy and Leif made us feel very welcome, even leaving fresh-cut flowers for us. So thoughtful! The cottage was perfect for us; my friend and I were staying in the area to visit Sturbridge Village and do some local outdoorsy stuff, and the cottage was a comfortable place to return to. We loved the cute deck with the comfy seating, too. The cottage could very comfortably sleep more than the two of us. Between the two bedrooms and the pull-out couch, it could easily sleep 4 or 5.

    Helena2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Another reviewer described this cottage as "magical," and I couldn't agree more! I'm from coastal Massachusetts, and my best friend from college lives north of New York city. We decided to meet somewhere halfway to celebrate the first weekend of fall with hiking, apple picking, and farm festivals. We rather randomly found Wales on the map, and found this cottage, and I feel like it was less by chance and more by fate that this happened. There is something very special, very peaceful, and very rejuvenating about this place, and Catherine could not have been a nicer person or more communicative and helpful host. As other reviewers have mentioned, she left us goodies in the fridge and gave us a lot of great suggestions for things to do in the area, tailored to our interests. The cottage itself is clean, cute, and cozy. There are books, videos, and board games, if you end up spending time inside. The deck is lovely, as is the lake at the end of the street. Beds were phenomenally comfy, and shower pressure was fantastic. The pictures of the cottage accurately convey its appearance, but can't begin to convey the special feeling you get when you stay there. My friend and I both highly recommend it, and hope to go back when we have more time to really sink in to life at the lake cottage in Wales! :)

Sleep 16* on 4 quiet acres, this spacious property is tastefully updated. It is the former rectory of a church turned artist studio. Walk to a river for kayaking or read on the porch/sunroom. Two night minimum. *1 King 4 queen 2 bunks + 2 twin
6 nice bedrooms, a modern kitchen and period details set this home apart. Oh - and did we mention there is a 4100 s.f. church on the property that is available separately? The house sleeps 16 and the church 6.
There is a river trail just steps from the property and see below for other trails and conservation areas in Belchertown: http://www.belchertown.org/departments/conservation/town_conservation_lands.php http://kayakingctwithlou.com/swift-river-belchertown-ma/ You can swim in the Swift River though it's pretty cold and can be 'swift' in some spots - it's about 100 yards from the driveway. There is a beautiful hiking path all along. If you want to bring kayaks you can launch them at the end of East St (off 202). Also - there is a brand new park with a splash pad that is really fun! You can walk to both. Belchertown has a town beach: http://www.belchertown.org/government/recreation/beach.php And a town pool: http://www.belchertown.org/government/recreation/pool.php

  • We loved our stay here at the Victorian. The house is beautiful. It was warm, inviting, spacious, and had a great yard for the kids to run around on. We didn't really leave the property so I can't speak to the neighborhood. But we did have an easy time finding grocery stores etc. Julia the host was great. She didn't bug us once and was available with quick responses when we did need anything. We would stay here again.

My husband and I invite you to stay at our Colonial reproduction home "Thornwood". We're conveniently located about 2.6 miles off of the Mass Pike and only a stone's throw from the Amherst/Northampton area. 18.6 miles from UMass Amherst and approximately 33 miles from Northampton.
Situated on 6.52 acres in rural Thorndike, this 2 story home features authentic details: from the handblown bulls-eye glass over the front door, hand-hewn chestnut beams, wide pine flooring and wainscoting. Warm up by the massive brick fireplace with working bake oven. Gardens, stone walls, and brick walks lead to an in-ground pool and a granite staircase that leads to a gazebo.
The Western Massachuttes area has so much to offer. Close by are many hiking trails, bike paths, restaurants, a local brewery, and a winery/vineyard.

  • This is a beautiful, quiet, clean comfortable home. Check-in was easy. We were gone all day long, so we didn’t get a chance to meet our hosts face to face, but they were very easy to communicate with through messages. You will be happy with your stay here.

    Brad2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • After a long day of working an event at UMass, my co-worker and I stayed at Kelsey & Eze’s place rather than drive the two hours back to Boston. The beds were comfortable, Kelsey was very nice and even recommended an excellent place for breakfast the next morning. The house is very clean and well-kept. It's in a quiet neighborhood where I fell asleep to nothing but the sound of the rain outside.

  • What a pretty house -it wasn't pictured in the listing so I was surprised at what a gorgeous home it turned out to be. it was like a mile or two from the first field at Brimfield antique show so it was super easy. I avoided all the Brimfield traffic which was great. The room was just as pictured - very clean and cozy with a shared bathroom right next door. The hosts dave and beth were lovely. Beth gave me some great recommendations for dinner spots near by. They had coffee ready early in the am for me to take with, and also fresh fruit and water to take out for the day. I would definitely stay here again (I might book for July?!) and recommend it to anyone who needs a nice and easy place to stay.

  • Upon arriving, Beth, Dave (& Cooper -their loyal lab) welcomed us to their lovely home. Communication before, during, and after our stay, either by text, written note or email/etc., was fabulous. Beth had coffee, fruit, muffins, cereal, & yogurt ready each morning and both her and Dave were very helpful with tips/directions to the fair. A beautiful property and perfect setting for what we needed. Will definately stay again when in the area. Thank you!

  • Beth and Dave have a beautiful home, very close to the Brimfield Antique Show. It is not walking distance, but a very short ride. Cooper the dog was very sweet. The mattresses were excellent, and everything scrupulously clean. A lovely breakfast of berries and muffins was included; I don't know if they do this for all guests or if we were special. ;-) Thanks for a comfortable stay.

  • Wonderful hosts, extremely comfortable beds with charming decor in a beautiful home, minutes from the Brimfield fairs. We received the best hospitality from Dave and Beth. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit with them, breakfast, and of course their sweet and friendly dog. We will definitely return!

  • I stumbled upon the exquisite experience of “Kimberly” while searching for a location to host an executive planning retreat for my three senior vice presidents and me. My search began in a more traditional fashion reviewing countless hotels and conference centers in the Sturbridge area, but nothing met my needs the way Kimberly's beautiful home did! For starters, we rented the entire house for about the same per person cost as renting individual hotel rooms. In Kimberly's home, she was most gracious in negotiating our check-in and check-out times, which allowed us the entire next day to conduct our semi-annual planning exercises. The accommodations themselves were magnificent: each room beautifully appointed and sparkling clean, the beds comfortable, the linens crisp and fresh smelling. The common areas were spacious, comfortable and laid out in a way that encouraged interaction and had plenty of spaces for break-out sessions, contemplation and discussion. When she and I first discussed the plan, Kimberly graciously offered to “cater” our meals so that we would not have to eat out for every meal. Upon check-in the first night, Kimberly had an assortment of lovely appetizers, cheese/crackers, hot spinach dip and more. We dined out for dinner that night (a restaurant Kimberly had done well to recommend!). The next morning we were greeted with the smell of fresh coffee, omelets, sausage, fresh fruit and homemade pumpkin bread. Delicious! For lunch she served us homemade chili, Spanish rice and homemade apple pie pulled from the oven that very morning. Everything was tasty, perfectly prepared, and presented table side with a style that would cause Martha Stewart to take notice. After my three staff had left upon conclusion of a highly successful planning retreat, Kimberly asked me to tell her honestly whether her presence in the kitchen had bothered us or had been a distraction over the course of our day. I told Kimberly that on the contrary, hearing her cook and fuss in the kitchen felt somehow comforting…nourishing…nurturing because we knew she was doing it all for us. Kimberly, thank you for making our business event feel like we were home with family. We all had a wonderful time and hope to return again in the near future!

  • It was perfect. We were traveling and needed a place to sleep on our way and Robin was very accommodating with our late arrival. Thank you!

    Mark2014-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Robin is a wonderful host. Warm and kind. And a totally animal lover. We enjoyed our stay very much

    Jill2015-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable accommodations. Thanks for hosting.

    Travis2015-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • We were so glad to have our accommodations accepted for our same day stay. Robin left us a note on the door for our 9pm arrival, her family still awake. However, we were quite disappointed to discover the listing was not accurate. The bedroom is private, however the bathroom is shared. It was very unclean and we woke in the morning to urine on the seat and floor. Robin explained in her note on the door that the heat isn't turned on until November 1; temperatures dropped to below 40 during the night and we hardly slept we were so cold even with the extra blanket, one of which appeared unwashed. I was woken before 6am to the sound of the TV and shortly after unpleasant exchanges between what I assume to be family members. Our bedroom door was opened twice, before we got up for the day at 8:45am. The best part of our stay was the friendly goats behind the house when we quickly left to find the nearest restroom.

    Elizabeth2015-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Farmer's paradise is correct, there are a few extremely friendly goats and chickens grazing the property. It's a bit surreal. The option to purchase farm fresh eggs is an added bonus. So close to Brimfild, was perfect.

    Noah2015-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Animal lover's paradise! There are dog, cats, goats, ducks, hens… We stayed with Robin and her family for a week. Very nice and unique experience.

    Qi2015-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed with Robin while we shopped at the Brimfield antique shows. The location was great and we were made to feel right at home. We enjoyed our stay with Robin.

    Cal2017-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • We were very happy with these accommodations. The house is in a great location for going to the Brimfield flea market. The room and bathroom were clean, the beds were very comfortable, and it was cool, which was crucial considering our stay was in the middle of a heat wave. Robin and her family are warm and friendly. It couldn't have been easier to stay at their house. Really nice place.

Enjoy the evening quiet, TV has DVD player, and wide selection of DVDs to watch. equal parts year round dwellings and seasonal cottages, the area is typical developed recreational lake setting: close house proximity but very quiet. Close to Bigelow Hollow State Park, Union CT for hiking/boating or fishing in addition to fishing at Hamilton Reservoir
  • This is a lovely place, especially for a family looking for a cabin trip by the lake. The house has two bedrooms, which are comfy, clean and equipped with ac units. Dominic is a hospitable host, and he left granola bars and coffee (from Trader Joe's!) for us to enjoy. We ended up not staying the whole time, but it had nothing to do with the cabin, but my own mistake in booking a room a bit far from my brother's wedding and family. We'd be happy to stay here again.

    Glencora 2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had plenty of utensils. There was an abundance of towels and extra toiletries. We enjoyed the lake view from the decks and pond. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure.

    Michelle2017-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely great place! We had a relaxing weekend; enjoyed the lake, took some hikes and above all enjoyed the silencing when reading a book!

    Joseph2016-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a place to stay. If you're looking to break away from the rat race and indulge in the beautiful countryside - this is the place! Quiet, beautiful views, lovely walks, friendly locals - Dominic's places has it all. We hope to return sometime in the future.

  • Wonderful place to stay when we visited to attend the Brimfield Antique Market. Secluded on a lake close to Brimfield and next to the small village of Holland. House was fully set up for our stay complete with drinks, snacks, coffee and breakfast food. The house was very comfortable, fully furnished and complete with all cooking pots, pans and utensils. Paper plates and plastic cups were provided or regular dishware is provided as well. Full dining room table with 5 settings, fully furnished living room with a TV and DVD player made for relaxing evenings after our daily activities. The home has two decks over looking the lake and surrounding neighborhood, that we enjoyed drinking coffee in the morning or relaxing before bed. Fully recommend this venue for folks looking for a place to stay in this part of MA.

    Tony 2016-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy spot, well-equipped, great place to get away for the weekend by a beautiful lake.

    Andrew2016-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • The 4 Seasons Lake View Cabin is a wonderful place to escape. The home is beautifully appointed and you feel instantly 'at home'. Dominic is the perfect host - making sure you have everything you need and always in contact to answer any questions and suggest places to see nearby. The view of the lake is amazing at all times throughout the day. It's a short stroll to the water's edge where you can sit for hours listening to nature (there's literally little to no other sound - it's beautifully quiet). At night, sit on the deck and just look up - the amount of stars visible is breathtaking. The whole home is so cozy and warm - easy to cuddle up with a book or watch a movie (though hard to choose which to do first!). The kitchen is stocked with all the necessary tools (and more). If you need it, Dominic has thought of it and has it ready for you. I can't recommend this gem highly enough. My stay was during late fall/early winter...I can only imagine how amazing it is in the spring and summer! Looks like I just figured out when my next visit should be! You're going to love it here!

Enjoy a picturesque 15 minute drive to the Brimfield Antique Show! We are just 5 minutes to Staffordville Lake and 5 minutes to downtown Stafford Springs. Many acres of Wildlife Refuge and Parks just a stone's throw away from the Inn.
Our home is on the original town green and still boasts many of the original details from 1778. Our home has wide plank floors, hand carved chair rails, two of the bedrooms boast barreled ceilings and one a mullion window! Our prices are per room rates. During the Brimfield show we provide a large continental buffet with "to go" bags and coffee cups for those that aspire to the sunrise opening at the show. If you are interested in a seated breakfast during the show we are happy to provide a hot breakfast as well upon request. During the winter months we used two wood burning stoves that provide a warm, welcoming environment. While preserving the details from the 1700's we also provide modern amenities like free cable and WiFi. Our family loves to host guests and have had guests from as far as New Zealand, Dubai, Paris and Norway to name a few. We also have hosted many local folks who love to get away from the quad cities that surround us. Hartford, CT , Boston, MA, Springfield, MA and NYC, NY are within 40 minutes to 3 hours from our home. We are a family run New England get away rich in history and landscape in every season. Since we raise our three children in our historic home we also accept guest with children of all ages which is very rare in the B&B world. We hope you or perhaps you and your family will visit and become as enchanted by our quaint little town as we have grown! Some of the decor in our home is for sale. I love to have a piece from our local antique shop rotating at the Inn to change up our decor. We also usually have a few photos for sale and maple syrup, of course! We have 5 sugar houses in town and love using and supplying their products! We have two rooms routinely available and two others if we have a large party staying for a minimum of two nights or longer. We also host small events and gatherings. Hope to meet you soon! The Rhoads Family
We are in a rural setting with our neighbor's horses surrounding us. The two dirt roads that flank the inn are perfect for nature walks or bike rides. Not far from the inn there are trails for both hiking and mountain biking if you are looking for more challenging adventure. Staffordville lake is only a 5 minute drive down the hill and is open to the public during summer months free of charge and after school hours all year long. Our local pub J&D's has wonderful fish taco's and a signature burger that is on the CT Brew and Burger tour. Basil's restaurant is know for it's high quality, huge portions of italian and American cuisine and only a 5 minute drive. We are also home to some of the best Barn Sales around especially during the Brimfield show! If you can come before the show I can direct you to some amazing finds at half the price! Our most popular event is the Brimfield Antique Show which is held three times per year in May, July and September and is a mere 15 drive through lovely rural rolling hills and around spectacular Staffordville Lake. Our downtown now boasts The Palace Theatre originally a Vaudeville destination with the pulley system still visible! It is an intimate setting and a wonderful way to enjoy live music or any one of the other live acts the Palace draws here. Stafford Springs has become an artist community filled with studios and galleries as well as occasional street performers and drum circles during the summer months at our farmers market. Downtown offers antique shopping, a thrift store for bargain finds, gift shops and a wonderful coffee shop with an organic flair! The shops of Stafford are hidden gems in our rural getaway. To name a few we have a vintage clothing store, Three Grace's, that have amazing finds at reasonable prices, an antique and oddities shop called Rustology that could consume you for days wondering through their vast store and warehouse just a few steps away from each other and many other charming shops including our latest addition, Sabor, an Olive Oil Tap Room and gallery! Sturbridge Village a living history museum is an amazing place with the horse drawn carriage that used to stop right here at the inn! We are so lucky to have such a big part of our history forever preserved just a few miles away in a living museum.
  • Our families visit to this historic home B & B was as great as we expected. Danele was the perfect host for our large group (grandma, grandpa, sister in law, kids, nephew and his wife – the dog (just kidding) that had traveled to the area for our daughter’s graduation from college. What could have been an awful event giving the large family group instead turned out to be one of the most wonderful traveling experiences we have ever had. Being from California anything older than 50 years is historic, it was another experience to stay in a 230 year plus historic antique filled home that felt more like a close relatives home than a museum. We only wish we could have stayed longer to explore the area and visit more with Danele and her lovely family. Breakfast with local cheeses and homemade pancakes with real maple syrup were reason alone to stay there. Danele we thank you for the opportunity to stay in your place.

    Jesus2014-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place! The room was absolutely beautiful, even nicer than the pictures! Danele went out her way to make us feel comfortable and at home. She even showed us around Stafford Springs and gave us loads of suggestions of activities to do with my children in the area. My kids had a great time playing with her children, especially in the playhouse out back! The area is stunning, right next to the house there is a long dirt road that was perfect for a morning and evening walk through the woods. I would love to go back and explore the area further.

    Jennifer2016-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the Heritage Room. It was charming, lots of character, extremely clean. A new bathroom with a great shower. Danele went out of her way to be welcoming and helpful, even offering boots and umbrellas for the rainy days. She was flexible with arrival times and breakfast. She was a wealth of information about the community, local shops, and the Brimfield Market. A lovely homey historical house. Three sweet children that were fun to be around. Overall one of the best BnB's we've stayed at and would definitely go back.

    philip2017-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • It was a very enjoyable stay at the Inn, comfortable and quiet in the countryside and nice talks with the hosts. .a beautiful setting to experience the autumn in Stafford Springs!

    Andrew2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Danele was so welcoming to myself, my husband and daughter. She provided us with everything we needed, most especially her welcoming attitude! Everything was clean, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend!

    Maureen2015-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to relax. The host Family were quite enjoyable and sensitive to our needs. The house is beautiful and the neighborhood quiet. We enjoyed a walk along a nice nearby dirt road. I would definitely stay here again.

    Jane2014-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful countryside location. Danele and her family were all incredibly welcoming and we enjoyed spending time with them. It really made us feel like we were at home. Danele's hospitality was above and beyond our expectations, it's just a shame we couldn't have spent more time at The Keepers Inn.

    simon2014-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Danele's inn was fantastic! Her house is wonderfully decorated and comfortable, and the breakfast she provides is a great deal. She was more then accommodating with my weird food allergies, and even sent me and my friends off with snacks to keep us going during our Brimfield shopping trip. The inn is located within easy driving distance from Brimfield (15-20 mins), but a lovely retreat from the madness of the show. Her family is very warm and inviting, and we enjoyed relaxing in her house over a bottle of wine each night after heavy shopping. She even directed us to some off the beaten path shops nearby with even better deals! I would highly recommend staying here, and hope to be able to stay again someday!

  • This is an awesome little house. The lake is so relaxing. Our granddaughter had the best time.

    Linda2017-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfect. She gets a 10/10. We had a wonderful time in your darling lake house. The house had everything one could possibly need, from a complete kitchen set up, to a wonderful outdoor space with patio furniture and access to a boat for a cruise on the lake. The bedrooms were spacious, and had the most comfortable bed, with views of the lake. It was so beautiful and peaceful, it was like living in a picture post card. Shannon and her husband were nearby to answer any questions. We would highly recommend this lake house, and we will definitely be back.

    Gloria2015-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Premises were clean, well kept, spacious, comfortable, and airy. Hosts were friendly and gave full explanation of accommodations and devices. Nicely situated. Well worth the cost.

    Stephen2015-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I had the best welcome and instantly felt at home. They had everything you need in the kitchen and tools for the bbq. Boating on the lake was super pleasant and if it wasn't too cold, we totally would have jumped in. It was such a comfortable experience and I would definitely plan on coming back in the future. It's super close the Brimfield flea market (awesome!), but also not too close to the traffic and crowds. Thanks again for such an amazing 4 days at Brimfield.

    Kara2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this comfortable, immaculate, and very well-equipped cottage on a beautiful lake. Shannon and Tom are wonderful and live right next door, so they are available to help with any difficulty but they are not at all intrusive. Also they are quite knowledgeable about the area. The location is very picturesque and quiet - a perfect country getaway. It was a little to early to swim when we were there but the lake looked very clean and perfect for a swim. (We plan to do that when we return) There are 3! boats available for exploring the lake and it was just spectacular paddling around at sunset. We were so happy to have discovered this place and definitely plan to return. Thank you, Shannon and Tom!

    Karen2015-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, clean comfortable stay and great hospitality. Tom and Shannon were very nice and checked in if they saw us out and about to ensure we had everything we needed. Location is great on a good sized lake with good fishing and use of the boats was a great touch. Would highly recommend this very homey quiet getaway coming from a family that had 3 adults, 3 kids and 3 dogs. Just left today and already looking to see when we might be able to go back again.

    Blake2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Tom and Shannon have created such a lovely getaway! My kids absolutely LOVED the peddle-boat. They peddled themselves around the pond for hours. The home has been very thoughtfully decorated and put together to create the perfect lakeside experience. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Tom and Shannon made us feel very welcome. We are already planning on returning on our next trip to MA!

    Deborah2016-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Wow this place is really clean. The view of the lake is so relaxing. The host was very pleasant. We were very apprehensive with the host being right next door. They couple were very hospitable when we met. The couple respected our privacy. Great communication. Host answered us within minutes every time. This cottage is very relaxing with a great selection of movies. Also the cleanest Airbnb so far. Highly recommend if you want some relaxing time at the lake. Just a great visit!

We would love to have you stay at our home. It is close to family-friendly activities, the airport, and the 3 largest cities in MA. Approximately one hour from both Logan International and Bradley International Airports. Also 5 minutes from Old Sturbridge Village and the Brimfield Antique and Collectibles Show. You’ll love it here because of the coziness, the location, and the serenity. It would be for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids).
The space would best be described as an in-law unit. It is essentially 3 rooms with the bedroom and then the living room and kitchenette. It also includes a private bathroom with shower. The bed is full size bed but should having to sleep separately be an issue, your guest can accommodate a fouton in the living room. This walk-out basement "apartment" is conveniently stocked with the simple things to make your stay more enjoyable. A microwave, mini-fridge and coffee pot will help with additional food meals not provided by us (you will love our complimentary breakfast). We have awesome restaurants in Sturbridge but it is nice to have the ability to make extra snacks, store drinks etc. The private bathroom is just a few steps away on the same level. It also has a private patio should you like to sit outside. This would be a nice place to smoke if you happen to be a smoker.
We live in a development but here in Brimfield we have an acre and a half minimum requirement for building homes so we have plenty of privacy. In addition this neighborhood is made up of colonial reproductions so is quite unique.
  • Our experience at Rom & Nicole's place was the stuff of fairytales. Yes, all of the basics were covered: cleanliness, attentiveness, communication, privacy, etc. BUT, the magic here is the property. Their house is not far from civilization and yet nestled completely in the wilderness. They have chickens, goats and an elusive rabbit on the premises. They cooked us a breakfast worthy of kings; eggs from their chickens, bacon from pigs that they raised (!!), etc etc. And the hosts themselves were just as whimsical. (Nicole is a professional clown? Amazing.) We'll be staying with them again, undoubtedly.

    Travis2017-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, private and inviting place! Nicole and Rom were welcoming and entertaining. Rom is quite a cook. My basement suite was clean and private. It included a sitting room with TV, microwave oven, bedroom and bath. Nicole even stocked snacks and my favorite beverages. All in all, a great experience.

    Tony2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic Airbnb find. Nicole and Rom's beautiful home is down a scenic road, so you have that "out in the country" feeling but are only minutes away from Sturbridge and all the conveniences. They are the most gracious hosts - and their guest accommodations are beyond great. Meeting their critters was a plus - loved sitting on the patio at the end of the day relaxing and watching the chickens and goats. Nicole and Rom surely know how to make guests feel welcome. Breakfast was so good, with fresh eggs from their chickens, but the conversations were the best. It was like staying in a good friend's home. Thanks Nicole and Rom for the best Airbnb experience.

  • Our stay at Nicole was one of the best Air BNB experiences with a delicious breakfast, a welcoming host, and a beautiful setting.

  • Nicole and Dom were wonderful hosts. We checked in around 330 and they were home to welcome us and give us lots of info on the area with great suggestions for things to do. Their property is so beautiful, relaxing and very well kept. The guest area is very spacious and they provide games and snacks for you. We felt right at home. Nicole was such a sweetheart, she made us breakfast in the morning and shared fun stories about her travels. It was such a pleasure getting to know Nicole and Dom and we would love to go back again.

  • We had an amazing time staying at Nicole's place. You basically have an entire apartment at your disposal which was a pleasant surprise! We had a fun time seeing the chickens & goats on their well kept land. They offer snacks in the living room, Nintendo, DVD's, coffee & breakfast in the morning which was also a lovely offer. My boyfriend & I both said we wished we could have stayed for more than just one night & that we'd definitely come back if in the neighborhood again.

  • Nicole's place is wonderful! She is a gracious host and a wonderful cook! If you like a clean private space for your trip that is easy on your budget. Nicole's place will exceed your expectations! Vicki and Steve

  • Nicole is a most kind and generous host. She had already gone to a lot of trouble to answer our questions about the area and offered useful advice well in advance and was equally helpful when we changed our plans at the last moment. The house is in a beautiful wooded setting and we wished we'd had more time to enjoy it fully. The apartment was extremely large and had everything you could possibly want. Nicole then topped it all off with a wonderful home cooked breakfast and good conversation. A perfect AirBnB!

  • Wonderful setting on a New England lake. Close to I 84 or I 90. Only an hour from metro Boston. Home made baked goods were so good!

  • Excellent, fantastic experience, the description is totally accurate. A perfect gateaway, I wish we had more time to expend at the Carriage House at the Lake. So far the best Airbnb experience. Cathy's warm welcoming and attention to details made our stay wonderful. Thank you. Definitely we will recommend this place. Maria

    Maria2015-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Ernie and Cathy made us feel very welcome from the moment we pulled up to the carriage house by greeting us personally, providing a tour of the property, answering questions about local restaurants, groceries, lake information, etc. Cathy took photos of us after our wedding ceremony as we got married during our stay in Holland. Cathy provided so much breakfast food, clean towels, plenty of clean bedding, we really didn't expect this to be such a 5-Star story-book week, but she and Ernie really were outstanding hosts.

    Tom2015-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location near a lake and lots of trees. Short car ride to great restaurants. The carriage house has windows all around. They really take care of all the details so it is a pleasure to stay.

    Kurt2017-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first Air BNB experience and really set the stage. Cathy was so welcoming after we spent a long day at the Brimfield Antiques Show. She greeted us as soon as we arrived. The house was immaculate and the fridge was stocked with anything your heart could desire for breakfast. She even baked bread and muffins that were out of this world and left a vase of fresh flowers. We will certainly be returning for a weekend even if the Antiques Show isn't taking place for a quick getaway and view of the lake. If you are going to be in the area for the Show, this is only an easy 5-minute drive.

Relaxing space for anyone looking for a place of peace to write, or get away for a night or more. Queen bed, cold running water at sink, private bthrm 25ft to house from cabin, heat in ceiling fan, AC. Sun porch faces South, main room 11 ft. ceiling.
Beach across the street at the lake. Bring your kayaks or canoe and bathing suit or fishing pole!! There is also a nice steak and seafood restaurant directly across from the beach Russo's Steak and Seafood and a wonderful ice cream bar drive up with full menu just down the road toward RT 32 about 1/10 of a mile called Rondeau's Dairy Bar
I love my Lake across the street. It changes every day with the weather. Full moons are awesome to behold on the clear nights! Also the privacy in the back pond gives me all the nature I could ask for to watch day in and day out! In the spring and summer I love listening to the tree frogs and peepers! I am close to the main road of Rt. 32 and the Mass Turn Pike is only 5 mins away.
  • We couldn't believe our luck in finding this little gem, when even the nearby motels were booked for Brimfield Antique week. The cabin was immaculate and the surroundings can't be beaten. When you wake up, you don't even need to sit up to have a lake view. There is a pretty good restaurant with outdoor dining just up the road. We will look forward to enjoying this serene retreat again.

  • I do not have words enough to say what a pleasure it was to stay at Lori's cabin. She is a thoughtful and generous host and it was a lot of fun to chat with her about the area. And the cabin is a small, quiet treasure. I stayed here to do a couple days of writing, trying to break through a chunk of work that's been driving me nuts for... a while now. The plan was to type, swim, type, run, type, swim, etc. I basically camped out on the sun porch for three days and Got Things Done. It's breezy and lovely. And the lake is a constantly changing glory - sun, storm, deep fog, absolute calm, rippled with little waves, etc. And there are bird hitting it and fish jumping and... Man, it's lovely. When I went swimming the perch came right up and nosed curiously at my legs one morning. It looks like the other reviews had really covered a lot of the other details so, a word on running. The road out front gets some traffic but has decent shoulders for running (and runs through trees and along water - fun stuff to peek through) and a lot of the other roads in the area are pretty quiet. I am just filled with joy and gratitude from this visit. Hope to come back the next time I hit a piece of work that has me stumped.

  • Lori made our stay very easy and enjoyable! We were treated like personal guests and made to feel very much at home. I was traveling with my 2 1/2 yr old grandson, and Lori had anticipated our every need. I would definitely stay here again!

    Kathy2016-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lori was a great host. Her and my girlfriend talked about vibes and energy and she even gave us some white sage to smudge in our cabin, she also let us borrow a bowl that was very special to her to hold our sage. She was very accommodating to us and did not bother us one bit. She assisted us with starting a fire in her backyard facing the lake as well it was just what we needed. We plan on visiting again sooner than later. Thanks for everything Ms.Lori !!!

    Jalisa2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place is really beautiful and Lori is a great host. The cabin has a sunroom with all original windows from the 1920s, and you can sit and have coffee or do work and the lake is across the street so it is right there, it is so beautiful. The bedroom is so comfortable and has just enough of what I needed. I wanted to take a vacation to be by myself and be in a beautiful space and get some work done and this was the perfect space for that. The lake has a small beach, it is well maintained, the water is beautiful, and it was never crowded. You can also walk to the steakhouse which is really close and convenient. Overall a really beautiful area and great cabin and great host!

    Karoun2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great space and place. I loved the nature sounds of the bull frogs and scene of lake across from cabin. Lori and Sal were great. Finally got to chat as I was constantly on the go but they are both awesome and very friendly. ..welcoming. I would recommend a visit to Lori's. I hope to return and get a morning swim and sit around the fire and shares stories with Lori and sal.

Your own private entrance to a large room+ with full size bed, futon, work desk, flat screen TV, & fireplace. Shower and kitchete with microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. Located in a quiet/safe area with awesome view of Hamilton Reservoir. 1 mile off I-84.
May Brook Road is usually quiet and a nice walk with views of the lake. Sturbridge is just up I-84 and has many restaurants and of coarse, Old Sturbridge Village. The Brimfield Antique Flee Market is 15 minutes away in May, July, and Sept. The Treehouse Brewery is a short drive. A mile away is the Travelers Restaurant which has great food and an assortment of books. Each guest gets to take home 3 books per person free. The space really is Cozy and Quiet! But close to I-84 and a lot of interesting places.
The house is located on the quieter, back side of Hamilton Reservoir, often called Holland Lake. May Brook Road is very quiet. If you go for a walk or run, expect others doing the same to say hi! The neighborhood is small town residential. It is part of The Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor. Check it out on line to see the many activities available in the area.
  • John's place is a find! It's exactly as described: a large room in a quiet residential neighborhood with many wonderful walks around the lake, in the woods or along a creek are all just outside the door. The room was spotless and very generously outfitted with plenty of coffee and tea, nice thick towels and cozy bed linens, apps to stream on the large TV, books and games. The bed was comfortable, the shower had great water pressure and the little kitchen area very serviceable. All these things were wonderful, but John as host made even better. I spent 3 weeks at his place under stressful and challenging circumstances. John knew instinctively how to balance his very friendly nature with my need for a lot of personal space, and I appreciated that very much. But every time needed something, John was on it immediately.

    Susan2017-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • John was such a warm and friendly host! He was super quick to respond and was super accommodating. The place is pretty private, has its own entrance, and is very cute and cozy. Also, the outdoor area is a really nice place to hang out. Overall, fantastic place to stay.

  • Had a great time! John's place was clean and quiet. I admittedly did not spend much time there outside sleeping, but it was a comfy bed with good pillows. I would 100% stay there again if I go back to the area.

    Craig2015-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • It was Saturday morning when we realized the weather was going to be nice and decided to go away for the weekend. After browsing airbnb for a little while, we settled on John's place due to its proximity to Boston, reasonable price, and excellent reviews. John responded promptly to the same day booking request and had the place ready in a matter of a few hours. The place was clean, cozy, close enough to nice restaurants and far enough from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. We didn't spend much time talking to John but on a few occasions we interacted in person, he was very nice and friendly. An excellent host, he thought of every little detail for his guests: from the coffee creamer and the tooth paste, to the wifi details and things to do in the area. He was also available when we texted him on a couple occasions and always responded promptly. I would definitely recommend staying with John, if you are looking for a relaxing, comfortable, and charming place to stay. P.S. We enjoyed dining at the following restaurants in the area: Travelers Restaurant, B.T.'s Smokehouse, Annie's Country Kitchen.

Music Studio 307 is a professional recording/rehearsal studio located in an artist community in Stafford, CT. Our clients enjoy our very artsy and laid back atmosphere. We are within walking distance to many boutique stores, a beautiful park and a concert venue.
I have three separate studios that are all connected via the back hallway where the laundry room and 1/2 bathroom are located. The first studio houses the Control room, Vocal booth and Live room. The second studio space houses the Artist lounge with a Baby Grand piano, full kitchen, full bathroom and a TV area with a futon and cable HDMI flat screen (we also have an Xbox 360 with plenty of games). The 3rd studio houses the bedroom with it's own lounge area that has two pull out sofa's and an HDMI flatscreen tv that comes with Roku smart tv, local cable and Xbox One console.
The artist community is located in beautiful downtown Stafford Springs, CT. We are in walking distance to several restaurants, boutique shops, a concert venue and a beautiful park.
  • The studio is special. Pictures cannot capture its charm. The details are delightful, the studio is comfortable, and Elisa was very accommodating! Our group had a truly memorable experience.

  • We had such a wonderful experience at Elisa's recording studio! Immediately upon our arrival, we couldn't help but beat ourselves up for booking her space just for the night . We really wished we had prolonged our stay throughout the weekend to explore her adorable town just a little more. We were surprised to find that not only was the recording studio much larger than it appeared, but the incredibly cool atmosphere she created in a renovated Mill Factory far succeeded the images on her profile. Her bohemian, eclectic and global aesthetic added a very charming, warm and inviting environment that undoubtedly contributes a stimulating energy to the artist and creatives who use her studio to produce their work. It was very reminiscent of a cool Brooklyn apartment (better even, considering the size of the space) and we felt right at home. We were very comfortable throughout our stay and Elisa really put in the extra effort in to make sure we had all the amenities we needed. Aesthetics aside, Elisa was nothing but delightful! We were overwhelmed by her hospitality and efforts to make our stay as pleasant as possible. She even greeted us with pizza, which was a wonderful surprise after our long trip from New York City. After Elisa gave us the initial tour upon our arrival, she left us to enjoy the space on our own and let us know that she was only a call or text message away if we needed anything else. Overall, the experience was beyond pleasant and We most definitely would love to come back for a longer stay! Thanks a lot Elisa for being so enjoyable and inviting and we look forward to the next time we see each other again! Always, Primo, Dan and Julia(URL HIDDEN)

  • The host was so kind in assuring that all our needs were met. The space was perfect for a girls night away to celebrate our soon to be bride. The details in each room give it such an artistic vibe you feel as though you've transported into a world full of music. It was a dream! I may however be biased because I love music. But all in all the space was great, the host was attentive and extremely helpful, and we had a successful stay.

    Jocelyn2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • The place is better then you could imagine vary well decorated. Location is killer right in down town Stafford. The equipment is top notch and Ryan the sound guy is so cool. The best part was the host she was so accommodating best trip yet will be back for sure.

  • Elisa was so kind and made us feel so comfortable right away the min we met. We loved the studio So much.! Everything was so perfect, clean and very well organized with pretty furnitures , musical instruments and decorations-we didn't even wanna leave the studio for dinner. We found the studio for Brim field antique show and had to check in earlier than what we originally planned due to the weather though Elisa was so flexible and welcomed us with warmth. The town around the studio is also very cute with nice antique stores. We wanna definitely come back here anytime with friends or family to have a special time. Strongly recommended!

    Tomota2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa is a fantastic host taking the trouble to ensure we knew how to find the apartment, introducing herself n her daughter and ensuring we were appraised of the local events during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble including drinks n even baking a cake. She's lovely! The apartment is really unique and tastefully decorated too and in a great location in Stafford.

    Ged2016-07-11T00:00:00Z

  • Our three musically inclined teenage daughters and us really enjoyed staying at Elisa's spot. It was spacious and at the same time cozy with space to chill together or solo and enjoy self. This rustic lakefront cottage has beautiful views of the Big Alum Lake, a full kitchen, comfy living room, and plenty of space for the whole family. Make summer memories that will last a lifetime in our family's lake house. Big Alum Lake is spring-fed and offers great swimming, boating, and fishing (URL HIDDEN) And it's just ten minutes to historic OSV (Old Sturbridge Village), great dining, antique and quaint New England shops, and all necessities.
The house sleeps up to eight people. One bedroom features one queen bed and one full bed. The second bedroom has a bunk bed and two twin beds (perfect for the kids or big families!). The house has a bathroom with a stand-up shower. A galley kitchen features a sink, gas stove and oven, a microwave, and a full refrigerator. The kitchen leads into a dining area and living room with big, comfortable couches, rocking chairs, and picturesque views of the tranquil Big Alum lake. Their is a landline telephone, cable TV, and WiFi, all provided by Spectrum. There is no air conditioning. But there are lots of windows and the cottage is usually cool and comfortable. There is no heat of any kind in the cottage. It can be rented into the fall, but understand that the nights will be chilly and blankets will be needed. If you are the camping type, fall nights in this cottage are great! Outside, a dock and lake-front yard provide a great place to lounge in the sun or shade, and steps into the lake allow the whole family to wade or swim in shallow water by the shore, or easily go out deeper. Well behaved family dogs are welcome!
The Big Alum Lake is a charming and quiet "great pond" with many families along its shores. During the day, you can expect some jet skis and motor boats, but for the most part, people on the lake use kayaks and canoes. You can expect boaters to greet you with a smile and wave as they go by, and neighbors welcome as much or as little interactions as you'd prefer. If you're lucky, you might even spot the the lake's sea plane as it takes off and lands on the water. There is a great orchard and brewery just a ten minute walk down the road. The facility has farm animals to visit and a disc golf course.
  • Susan was great to work with. Extreamly fast and responsive to email or any questions I had. Would use again!

    Richard2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect little cottage on one of my favorite lakes. Plenty of room for family and friends to come over and BBQ. It also has a doc for the boat. We would definitely stay here again.

    Dana2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is lovely. The lake is beautiful. Sue communicated well and went out of her way to make our stay comfortable.

    Jo2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Big Alum has the cleanest, clearest water for swimming/water sports in the area. The cottage easily sleeps 8 and has great parking. Also a nice easy grade to the water (no steep incline). Be sure to bring in your own water for drinking/cooking as the water in the sinks/shower comes directly from the lake. There is no air conditioning; on hot days better to cook outside. Also good to bring mosquito spray - to be expected there are a lot of mosquitoes at night. If you are good swimmers, swim down to the yellow buoy to the right. There is a big rock under water there that kids like to stand on. Two food recommendations: Howard's for ice cream and Dresser Hill (Clam Box) for seafood and ice cream!

  • I cant say enough good things about this lake house. We are a family of 6 (plus 1 dog) and we had a blast. The worst part of our stay was that it was too short. The house was rustic, but very comfortable with plenty of rooms and beds for us. The beds were comfortable and the couches were too. The lake is pristine, CRYSTAL CLEAR and great for fishing and swimming. Probably the nicest lake I have ever been in. Neighbors were friendly, always returning a smile or a wave. Local restaurants were good and the brewery down the street was great. We picked this house for its location, pet friendly attitude and price. All together it was a GREAT value and we had an amazing time. The goal of our stay was to relax, fish and swim. For three full days that is all we did and everyone was sad to go home. Awesome place and Susan was very, very easy to deal with. I would absolutely come back and would book more days.

  • Nice old house just few steps to lake. Quite and lovely place. Clear water in lake and fresh air in forest this is what you need for swimming, fishing and complete relax. House is close to main highway, Walmart, Stop and Shop, plenty small café and restaurants just 5 min to drive. We realy enjoed this 7 days of vacation (better to have 10 days). Possible will rent this place again later on.

    Valeriy2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Our family loved this little cozy lake house. It was perfect and affordable enough for a quick getaway from the daily grind. There are plenty of beds to invite close friends or family to join. We appreciated Sue's great communication and information given ahead of time. It is a basic enough lake house to be more comfortable than camping but not too fancy to be overwhelming for traveling with children. The children (ages 4-7) were thrilled and enjoyed their stay immensely. Thanks, Sue!

  • Alice's home was so lovely, we are already planning our next trip! We felt right at home and so didn't our dog. The beds were comfortable and Alice was kind enough to move a twin bed into the second bedroom so our two small children could sleep together. The neighborhood was quiet and we felt very safe throughout our stay. This was my first experience with an airbnb rental and we were more then satisfied. I highly recommend Alice's home.

  • Alice's place is a beautiful little house, very well maintained and with all amenities for a comfortable stay. Impeccably clean! We only spent one night there but you could easily spend more time exploring the quiet and beautiful area. • This house is darling, clean and is as advertised. Alice left us wonderful touches, flowers and wine. The house is very close to a private beach on a quiet lake. Easy to find. Quaint, clean and well equipped.

  • Alice's house was nicely quiet and private. She recommended some activities in the area, but due to the cold we decided to stay in and relax. And the house was perfect for that, so I have no complaints. There was plenty of space for board games, and an easily accessible TV for video games. Alice was nice enough to label drawers and cabinets to make it easy to find what we needed during our stay. I look forward to our next visit!

  • Sandra has a pretty house and yard. The bedroom was quite nice. Her office is next to the bedroom, the kitchen is off of that, and the bathroom is beyond that. We were a little disappointed that the bed wasn't ready for us when we got there at 6:00, but she said she thought we were going out to dinner. We didn't really mind making it ourselves. She had gone out to buy me an iron, which I appreciated, but I couldn't find a hair dryer. There's a lot of personal stuff still in the drawers and closet, which might bother some people. The bed itself was comfortable. We were able to walk to a Japanese restaurant, which was convenient. When I asked her for towels, she put some out. I think Sandra is new to this and we wish her luck.

  • The room was as described. Sandra was a great host! We enjoyed talking to her and her recommendations were spot on. We were 10 minutes from the flea market and many restaurants. The location is great! The house is clean and cozy and I highly recommend it! Thanks Sandra for everything!

There are several local restaurants within the neighborhood. We are close to Olive Gardens, Chinese restaurants, Golden Coral and Hibachi (japanese) restaurants. 10 minutes to local club hotspots on Worthington Street, downtown Springfield. We are close to many more highlights this city has to offer.
  • Petrolin and her husband was a fantastic host. They ensured that I had something to eat. Orange and apple juice to drink. The room condition , hygiene were excellent. If you want a family to stay for a few days in Springfield, MA this is the house to stay. The care she took reminded me of my mom.

  • Great, convenient location to The Big E, as expected and communicated. Room was very hot due to the summer like temperatures of the fall. Thanks for the thoughtfulness of the fans.

  • When I got to the house there was loud beeping going on (like a smoke dectector and another beep (with multiple beeps) like a security system. I did not mention it as it was late and i assumed it would be handled shortly. This went on all night about once per minute. I stuffed my ears with tissue, but it would not drown out the sound and I got zero sleep. I let Petrolin know (by airbnb text) at 7:30 the next morning that I could not continue if this was not resolved. I finally heard back from them at about dinner time the same day. I was told they could not fix this and that they were used to this sound. The room I stayed in ("The Charm Spot"..) also only had one window. This window was broken in the sense that it would not open. I told Petrolin that I like fresh air and she pointed to the fans she had in the room. All these did was push the stuffy and stale air around the room. There was no AC to counter balance this. A working window would have been fine. The light by the night stand had a blown light bulb and I consequently could not read myself to sleep. The fact that they were not able to resolve something as simple as replacing a battery in a smoke detector is hard to fathom. I could have overlooked the rest of the issues. Impossible to sleep there. Because of a large event in the area, I was not able to find an alternative place to stay and had to drive 1.5 hours back and forth from my home for the next two days. I hung on the the keys expecting that I would continue my stay there (this did not happen). I ended up sending them back to Petrolin via first class mail (with signature confirmation). I am not a fussy or high maintenance person, but this place would be allot for anyone to bear.

  • The host is very understanding, but the house was a little less cleaner than I expected.

  • Petrolin is a sweetheart and will work to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. The house is well-situated, off of a main road but a block or two back, so you get some privacy from the main road but are close to a lot. The room I stayed in was a nice one and was set up to be very welcoming, I was very comfortable and cozy! Definitely consider this an option if you need to be in the Springfield area!

  • Our stay at Petrolin was pleasant. She was very hospitable and her home is grand. The Room was picture perfect. My husband said it is better than a room in a hotel. Large closet and a privat bathroom is a plus.
