The setting is unique. The feeling you've arrived at a place tucked up in the trees, that no one knows about! Trees come right up through the decks. The wood work is exquisite. It is so cozy and comfortable. The space keeps warm with just the wood stove fired up in the morning in cold months. It also keeps cool in the warm months, being in the woodland canopy. And there is a fabulous shower! Suitable for agile folk only.
This is such a friendly, peaceful neighborhood. We get together several times a year and enjoy some form of socializing; such as medieval dinners, May Pole picnics, winter solstice bonfires. We are there for each other when tools or support of any kind is needed.
  • The Jewel Box was just what we wanted and needed--a quiet, remote space to unplug and lose track of time. The cabin is well-equipped and beautiful. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, relaxing on the porches overlooking the creek, and even the shower was a treat! Julie and Michael were excellent hosts, respectful of our privacy and very helpful. They went beyond expectations to make our experience perfect. It was a privilege to share their beautiful property. We hope to visit again in the near future!

    Laura2014-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most magical cozy relaxing retreat at the jewel box! The cabin is gorgeous, beautifully handmade with amazing views of surrounding forest, and the sound of the creek as the only background noise. We wanted for nothing, and loved the sustainable nature of the cabin while feeling totally in the lap of luxury:) Lots of reading by the woodstove or various little nooks in the cabin, nice walks by the creek and nearby Catherine Creek, and of course the highlight was our evening soak in the wood-fired hot tub overlooking the Tygh valley by sunset and taking in the amazing star-filled sky by dark-time. Julie was so sweet and was available if we needed her, but totally respected our privacy and desire to unplug from the world, which was exactly what this place provides. We can't wait to come back! Thanks again Julie!!!

  • Our time at the Jewel Box was unforgettable and nothing short of magical. Julie and Michael were incredible hosts and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay free of worry or stress. They were completely available communication wise and set up an extremely helpful pamphlet to answer any questions we might have about the space. The cabin itself is the definition of cozy. It was evident that this house was a labor of love. There were no corners cut whatsoever and every minor detail helped to complete the overall experience. The price made for a great value for this amazing cabin. The surrounding areas and views are indescribable. We felt like we were living in something out of a fairytale. I would absolutely recommend this location to everyone and can't wait to return!

    Maverick2014-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for 3 restful nights at the jewel box. Julie was a wonderful and gracious host. This is the perfect place to find peace and quiet. The wood cabin has all of the perks of camping, with none of the drawbacks. It's dead quiet in the forest except for the birds and the creek. The cabin is beautifully crafted. There are some great reading nooks and lofts. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. The cabin is ideally located near amazing hikes like Hamilton Mountain and Eagle creek to Tunnel Falls. I can't wait to go back.

    Daniel2014-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Julie and Michael are amazing hosts. My husband and I spent the weekend at their cabin/tree house and it was simply amazing. The place is cozy and provides you everything you need for a peaceful stay. We had an AWESOME experience, where we learned that time can be measure in a completely different way. Every little piece of that space is special! Oh! there is the wood fire hot tube... and the most beautiful night sky I have ever seen. A MUST GO!

    Fabiana2014-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my boyfriend had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Jewel Box. We came back feeling relaxed, refreshed and completely restored. Julie and Michael were incredible hosts, friendly and welcoming. Nothing seemed like too much bother and they were both attentive and respectful of our privacy. The hot tub was such a lovely little addition to what can only be described as a brilliant weekend.

    Aimee2014-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • This little escape away from everything was perfect for us. We loved waking up and seeing nothing but wilderness all around us. Its a cozy well thought out tree house. We absolutely loved the view from the upper deck about 25ft off the ground. The hosts were very friendly and we will definitely go back! Thank you Julie and Michael!

    Melissa2016-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • This was exactly the relaxing, secluded place we were looking for. It was like camping with nobody around, but with most of the convenience of home. If you do actually want to go out and explore, there are several excellent wineries and cider mills within a short drive. Should also add that Julie was a great host.

  • Lisa and Dave made me feel very welcome at their quaint, comfortable home in Wasco. Before my travel partner met me at the house I enjoyed getting to know them, and all in all I felt very at home during my stay in their very clean room with a lovely bath! I would certainly stay here again next time I need a break from the city.

  • A comfortable and lovely apartment kept by warm and welcoming hosts. Bonne has thought of everything to ensure that her guests have a comfortable stay. I highly recommend this quiet and thoughtfully-outfitted home.

    Paige2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Bonne and Roger were so welcoming and their place was even better than it looks online. They have a beautiful backyard and tons of space inside. There are a lot of little touches that made the stay fantastic and homey. Their home is in a lovely area that we are so glad to have seen on our road trip! Thank you!

    Lauren2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • The place was superb. Bonne was there to receive us and there were yummy homemade cookies left on the table . Definitely will visit again on next opportunity.

    Ahmad Izaham2016-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed in quite a few Airbnb places, and this is one of the nicest places we've stayed in. The hosts, Bonne and Roger were so attentive right from the beginning-giving us information about where we could pick up grocery before coming into town, and other useful info. The self-contained apartment was fully equipped with microwave, refrigerator, cooking utensils, condiments, jam, peanut butter. There was a bowl of hulled strawberries and home baked banana bread waiting for us. There are two full bathrooms - one attached to the bedroom, and another attached to the living room. There is a laundry with high quality washer/dryer in the apartment. Personally, I could live here for a long time, and not feel claustrophobic! Right outside the front door is a courtyard with a beautiful stone pond in the (URL HIDDEN) was so relaxing to sit out there in the sun and enjoy the sound of the water trickling down the pond. Last but not least, this place is extremely clean. I mean that if you walk around barefoot - your feet will remain totally clean. If you ever need a good, clean, comfortable, and friendly place to call home for a couple of nights or a while, this is it!

    Sim 2015-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Bonne met us in the driveway upon our arrival. Her and her husband were very nice and made us all feel very welcome at their place. The yard is stunningly beautiful and the house is exceptionally well decorated, and stocked with every thing you could possibly need after a day on the road. We arranged beforehand for dinner to be cooked for us. The wonderful smell of a home cooked meal put a smile on everyone face, as we walked into the house. The fridge was nicely stocked and the cake and ice cream was fabulous! Our stay there was PERFECT. Thank You so much!

    Jerry2015-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place is awesome, the hosts are so nice, I really enjoyed talking to Roger, such a nice couple, I was planning on staying here Saturday night, but had car trouble so they let me come Sunday night instead. Bonne was very helpful letting me choose when to come. Will definitely come again, great place to just unwind and relax.

Fred and Judy's bunkhouse is close to The Oregon Raceway Park, the Deschutes River, Justesen Ranch trout fishing lakes, and White River Falls State Park. The bunkhouse is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families. Guests may walk around the lakes and take in the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. There is a full-sized schoolyard swing set and a huge lawn for bocce ball, croquet or other lawn games. For larger groups, tent camping is an option too.
  • This is a great location for a weekend of racing at ORP. 15 minutes from the track and a great place to get some sleep.

    Abe2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, clean and comfortable. Fred's check-in instructions were on point and it was easy to find the ranch.

    Pranjal2017-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fred and Judy are great hosts. We loved the cabin and the surrounding area. Their ranch is uniquely located with views of mount hood with privacy and all the peace and quiet you could ask for. Can’t wait to come back.

    David2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Fred's bunkhouse for the eclipse. The place is accurately described and has a microwave and refrigerator. An added benefit to our stay is the great dark sky conditions to observe the stars and Milky Way at night. We had a great stay...

    Victor2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Super nice property. The views are exceptional.

    Rodney2017-09-10T00:00:00Z

  • This was a great find. Secluded and very family friendly. The guest cabin sleeps 5 but tents are allowed for larger groups. Well kept yard, big swing set and seesaws. No kitchen, just a refrigerator and microwave, 3/4 bath, cable tv and DVD player. We enjoyed the quiet.

Cozy bungalow in the town of Grass Valley with a huge lawn, close to the ORP. The Grass Valley guest house has two full bathrooms, an outdoor BBQ area, a big screen TV and a fully equipped kitchen. The house is primary used as lodging for Justesen Ranch Recreation hunting and fishing clients.
  • One of our utility crews stayed here during work in the area. They were happy with the home and had a nice stay. We will consider this home again in the future.

  • 10 people and one toddler, from 3 Canadian Provinces and one USA State, arrived to use this house as a staging point to observe the Great Total Solar Eclipse of 2017. Even if there were no eclipse, this house, the camaraderie, the amazing food and drink, and the dazzlingly clear night skies above Grass Valley would have made this a memorable event. This is my 7th total eclipse, and it was was awesome! We used the day before the eclipse to reconnoiter observing sites. We chose a pullout with an interpreted “Mountain Identifier" just off the gentle peak of the Shaniko Summit with a spectacular view over the valleys, canyons and giant volcanoes to the west. In case there were no pullouts available, Fred offered us a site on his land inside the Path of Totality. 10-1/2 people is the full capacity for this house. We came with loads of wonderful fresh food produced in market gardens, and made good use of the very well equipped and supplied kitchen and BBQ. We very much appreciated the generosity of our hosts. For all of us, this trip was one of life's highlights. This house, and our hosts, made this event memorable. Thanks Fred!

This bunkhouse is a historic old granary that has been converted into a charming little cabin. The Granary is in a located in a beautiful setting, adjacent to several prime trout fishing lakes.
The Granary is located on our family owned ranch. Justesen Ranches is a working cattle and wheat ranch with an established recreation business.
  • Very nice and comfortable cabin on a farm. It had everything we needed for our stay and Fred was a great host.

    Pranjal2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fred's cabin was such a special place to spend the weekend. It feels as though you are in another world. The screened porch is a dream to pass the days and nights away looking out at the gorgeous landscape. We LOVED the pond and simply strolling through the lush green fields. What a wonderful place to relax!

    Darcy2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful time at the Granary Fishing Cabin. The location was perfect for some motorcycle riding I had planned in the area. Fred and his family made me feel very welcome and included me on a few horseback rides. It is a great memory to be literally "riding into the sunset" with Mount Hood and the rest of the Cascades in view. The only hesitation I have in rating the location and hosts at the highest possible rating is purely selfish - word might then get out about how great this place is and I will never get a chance to book it again! Many thanks to Fred and Family.

    Mark2016-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • What a relaxing way to spend a weekend. My girlfriend and I spent a weekend fishing, walking the property, grilling burgers, watching the wild turkeys strut by, and enjoying the total seclusion. The cabin is as rustic as you would expect (and hope for) and the sound of wind through the grass is the only sound you'll hear.

    C.J.2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Don't think just book. If you're looking for rustic, scenic and a great place this is if.

    Julian2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a quaint little house on the prairie! Was nice and quiet and a great place to fish. Lots of fat trout! The cabin was cozy. Little cold in Dec. especially having to cook our meat out on the grill on the porch. Also could probably use some more cozy blankets. But all and all was a nice quick getaway.

    Heidi2016-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place! Very simple, but perfect place to escape from the craziness of the world!

    Andy2016-10-23T00:00:00Z

I would definitely stay there again!

  • The Just-Us Inn is perfect for anyone who wants a quiet stay off the beaten path. The rooms are rustic and comfortable. The host and other guests were quiet. Sharing the community kitchen and outdoor spaces is easy. If you go take some time to sit in the garden in the morning. The amount of birds to be seen and heard is amazing. The stillness and quiet of this place is just the thing for people who need a break from a fast paced existence.

    Deanne2015-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • JUST-US INN is much more FAMILY REUNION than WALDORF ASTORIA. RON met us gratuitously when we arrived late (1030pm ish) due to travel complications. We were guided to the DOWNSTAIRS TWO ROOM (with PRIVATE BATHROOM) SUITE where we enjoyed a good night's sleep with fresh air from open windows. The MAIN BEDROOM is large with a large (king?) bed. The SECOND BEDROOM is small with a small (single?) bed. The BATHROOM is small by 2015 standards but this building was built in the 1870s and has a rich history that makes little issues like reversed plumbing on the shower (hot & cold are backwards) inconsequential when later in the day you meet a lady at the (excellent) SHERMAN COUNTY MUSEUM that slept in that same room in the 1930s and 1940s. We did not tour the upstairs rooms but the lady at the museum says there is some great "local lore" about the 2nd and 3rd floors. Check in at the INN and visit the MUSEUM yourself for more info from NELL MELZER on the OLD OSKALOOSA HOTEL.

  • This is an old hotel that has been spruced up a bit. It's not Lap of Luxury, but it's very serviceable. The porch is a comfortable hang-out. It has a full kitchen with everything you'd need for making meals meant that making my breakfast in the morning was a breeze. Most of the people who are staying here are longer-term folks who are working itinerant jobs in the area. I enjoyed my conversations with them. Just to note: the one place to eat in town is closed Sundays and Mondays, and the little grocery closes at 6pm. I was there on a Monday, and by the time I walked to that one saloon to find it shut, by the time I walked back to the grocery, it had closed for the day. I ended up driving to Rufus to find dinner. I was lucky I had all my breakfast fixings at hand for the morning.

  • I spent one night here as a stopover on my way to a conference in Eastern Oregon. Communicating with Jennifer about my arrival was a breeze. Once you arrive you simply knock on the front door, get shown to your very clean, cozy, comfortable room and get a tour of the beautiful home. There is a half bath right next to the room, and a full bath just up the stairs. There is a lovely deck for looking out over the hills - the home is up on the hill with a terrific view. There is a full shared kitchen with delicious coffee for the morning. The home is quiet and the bed was very comfortable. The room is large enough for a little yoga and moving about. Despite it being 90+ outside, it was cool and comfortable in the room and house. Jennifer and her husband James are kind, lovely, helpful people, and I was so grateful to land there for an evening. Thank you Jennifer and James!

We’re centrally located in the Columbia River Gorge, south of The Dalles. Just 1 hour 45 minutes east of Portland, 3 hours from Seattle, two hours from Salem and Bend. With 350 days of sunshine, it’s a great getaway.
ELEGANT RETREAT IN A HISTORIC SETTING Life can be kind of crazy and hectic, but here at the Balch Hotel you step away from all that, into another world — a simply elegant setting surrounded by the serenity of nature that soothes and inspires you. When you arrive you’ll be greeted with homemade chocolate chip cookies and a warm cup of tea in the cooler months or icy lemon water when it's hot. You’ll be guided from the turn of century lobby to your room, deliciously appointed with charming antiques and a comfy bed. Then sip a glass of local wine or a cold beer in the parlor while you enjoy books and games from our library. Relax outside under an umbrella on the slate patio or on the lush lawn facing Mount Hood. Incredible view. We're an art gallery too, so you can gaze at the original art from local artists that adorn the walls. Chat serendipitously with other guests or enjoy your privacy. Later experience a bliss inducing facial or delicious body treatment. Then lounge, read or do yoga in the gardens, meditate under the evergreens or write in a hammock by the pond. You can even create your own Soul Art in an afternoon art therapy session with Claire.
Where the Columbia Gorge Meets Oregon's High Desert Explore the area: from the playground that is the majestic Mount Hood, to the rolling wheat fields and high desert plains, dropping into the Fruit Loop orchards, then the Mighty Columbia and Deschutes Rivers. There are so many amazing places to explore nearby. If you’re a culture lover we have a lovely art collection throughout our hotel, but it you want to explore, you can visit the world-class Maryhill Museum, Stonehenge replica, Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and the Air and Automobile Museum. Plus there are great wineries, breweries and cideries all around for tasting nearby.

  • WOW, so delighted to have discovered the Balch Hotel. When I told my friends I was stopping in Dufur, OR they asked Why? Well now I am divulging the reason... This delightful destination is a good excuse to get off the beaten path. The hotel is charming and nicely appointed, the staff is welcoming and so accommodating (we had a weird schedule), and the owner, Josiah, could not have been nicer. So glad you are listed on AirBnB, otherwise I would have never found you!

  • What a charming place to stay. Quite too! Hubby loves history and the town has it's stories as well as the Hotel :) Debra their upfront gal was wonderful and so accommodating, making breakfast work for some of my special needs without a blink! Bought a painting of Claire's, one of the owners as well as having a reiki session with her. Great way to relax and be swept away with healing energy. We'll be back to stay again, on the third floor next time to get an even better view of their little town! With Gratitude to you all, Doreen & Dave

  • The Hotel was cute and it is in a quite little town. Good place to stay if your planing on just resting. We were looking for a more lively atmosphere but still a good experience.

  • Really enjoyed the historic feel. The renovations are mostly true to the period. The ambience is relaxed and gracious. Lovely high ceilings, tall windows with old wavey glass. Not much privacy in terms of sound. The walls are not insulated so you can hear your neighbors if chatty but the guests were respectful and very quiet. The rooms are charming and bed really comfortable. The garden surrounding the hotel is very beautiful and relaxing. A nice place to hang out and read.

  • We arrived after dinner in The Dalles, and the woman at the desk greeted us. I believe we were the last ones to arrive that night. The cookies were there, as promised. She showed up to our room, and we hunkered in for the night. It was a beautiful hotel, and I assumed we were some of the only guests that night because it was so quiet, but the next morning at breakfast, there were several other people eating. The food was lovely, and we got a glorious rainbow out our window as we prepared to head out to the rest of our adventure!

Vacation home overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. Located in Wishram, a small railroad town. Trains are the biggest source of activity in Wishram. The view is wide open, the climate is quite dry, and the pace is laid back.
This cabin is comfortable for two people or up to nine people. The upstairs sleeps six with three sleeping bays. The bays have walls on three sides and a heavy curtain in the front, so not totally private. Wake up, open up the curtains, and get blown away by the view!
Wishram is 15 minutes away from The Dalles, OR, where you can find grocery stores, restaurants, and most services you would need. There are no stores or restaurants in Wishram, so pick up some food items on your way. Maryhill Winery and Museum are just a few miles further east on Highway 14. Horsethief Lake State Park is 8 miles west of Wishram on Highway 14.

Make yourself at home in my updated craftsman house nestled on a quiet dead end street. Whip up a meal in the kitchen, watch a movie in the media room, or read a book on the porch. You'll have a room to yourself with a bed that feels like you're sleeping on a cloud. The bathroom is shared, but you'll have private use of it the majority of the time.
Built in 1916 this updated craftsman has a lot of character. The guest room and bathroom is on the main floor of the house, but if you want to access the media room (TV, movies) you'll have to go down some stairs into the basement.
My house is located on a quiet dead end street with views of the Columbia and Klickitat Mountains. It is a quick 10-15 minute walk downtown to restaurants, tap rooms, shops, and the farmer's market.
  • Sierra's place was just what I needed. Communication with her was great and I felt right at home. She was extremely nice and I wish we could have sat and chatted but we were both so busy! I enjoyed dinner on the front porch with the river view. Sierra was very accommodating and I would recommend her place to anyone looking to stay in the area

  • This place was amazing. Sierra was extremely accommodating and flexible. We got to shift our days for the weekend stay. Her home is lovely and quaint and she welcomed us with a tour. It felt cozy to stay and we loved The Dalles! Great local restaurants and not a far drive from mt hood. Definitely would stay at Sierra's again :)

  • Wonderfully charming home close to everything. Enjoyed the large yard with a good view of the surrounding hills from the front porch. Owner was extremely accommodating and friendly.

  • Clean, comfortable, quiet, functional. Essentials only- no TV, cable, satellite or- gasp!- wifi. 4G reception is good. A great place to rest and reset after a long day or between adventures. One of best amenities is the taqueria about 50 yards up the hill. And next door to that, a grocery store. You can walk from the house down the hill into the downtown area, not that there's a lot going on down there. Clock Tower Ales is a fun place with good food and nice folks. If you need basic, clean, comfortable accommodations in The Dalles, I recommend Greg and Ann's place.

Book us for the holidays! We have 3 bedrooms with furnished beds, and 3 full bathrooms. Wifi equip along with one room furnished as a media room with Internet tv available. Our guests have complete access to our house and utilities. (Except the two storage rooms). We are about 3 minutes from downtown where grocery stores and restaurants are available. But also secluded enough to where you’ll find yourself having quiet peaceful nights for that middle of nowhere, country vibe!
Our home is quite spacious but also has unique characteristics. Braydon and I both love adventures and traveling, our home is filled with souvenirs and trinkets from several countries we have traveled to. Mostly Braydon has, (I’m a bit jealous). One of our bedrooms is decorated as the gypsy room which mirrors my thrifty/old fashioned heart, and culture. There’s a bit of both of us in our home, that I’m positive and hopeful other travelers and adventure seekers would enjoy as well!
  • This is a great spot for enjoying the Mary Hill area (museum and winery) as well as Oregon Raceway Park about 45 minutes away. Goldendale is a friendly town with good food options, gas, and some personality. This house is right in town, close to everything but not crowded at all. Great parking, open spaces inside rhe house and comfy beds! Great for our family but would also be great for a group. The hosts are wonderful and super responsive! Glad we found this option in Goldendale for our visits to the area.

  • A wonderfully spacious and comfortable home, I stayed here with some friends during the August 2017 Solar Eclipse. The space was clean, had everything we needed to cook, and made us feel right at home. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets on the porch and laughter-filled evenings playing cards against humanity, among other games, which Gloria and Braydon so kindly left out for us. We ventured down a few blocks into downtown Goldendale, an adorable small town of less than 4,000 people, where we explored local restaurants, boutiques, and oddity shops. I definitely recommend staying here to anyone who is looking to escape the constant buzz of the city and to anyone who is passing through and looking for a cozy place to touch down for a few nights.

Nature’s Point is close to breathtaking nature hiking, the Deschutes River, and all kinds of outdoor recreation. The views, country setting, and quiet and peaceful atmosphere make this a great space for individuals looking to relax and recharge. In addition to one and two half shared bathrooms between five rooms, the Italian Room has its own private sink and mirror. This room also has direct deck access.
Nestled in rural Tygh Valley, Nature’s Point offers a space for retreats, rest, meditation, and plentiful opportunities to get out in nature, away from the crazy chaos of the city. Less than five miles away rests the breathtaking White River Falls. All around there are opportunities for hiking, nature watching, bicycling, fly fishing, rafting, and quiet time in nature. Each room has a lock and key. There are three shared bathrooms between five rooms: two half and one full. Our wide open shared entrance room has several tables, chairs, and a couch. Unless it has been reserved for an event, the cozy fireplace library down the hall is a great place to curl up with a great book and a mug of tea or coffee. The Italian Room has direct deck access and its own private sink and mirror.
Cows and alpacas dot the majestic hillsides and fields, while hiking trails offer breathtaking views here in Tygh Valley. While maintaining it’s rural and quiet environment, Tygh Valley is close to a variety of recreation and tourist activities. Maupin, considered by many to be the headquarters for Lower Deschutes fly fishing and rafting, is only 10 miles south of Nature’s Point. Maupin offers fuel, groceries, fishing gear, a handful of restaurants and bars. A few miles west, Pine Hollow offers a campground, lake fishing and recreation, a small airport, and a 9-hole golf course. Just under twenty minutes north sits the historic city of Dufur. Within comfortable driving distance, there are also a variety of wine tours, interesting restaurants, museums, and even a ghost town. You are invited to stay in a Klickitat County landmark, listed on both the state and federal registers of historic places. The Red House built for the ‘Horse King of the Northwest’ Charles Newell and his wife Mary in 1890, is now a distinctive vacation rental. The Red House’s three stories are furnished with art, antique/vintage finds, colored glass windows, original ornamental trim, fresh linens and comfortable beds. The house is well equipped and designed for relaxing.
The Red House is steeped in history and local lore. On the dining room table, you will find a red binder that gets you up to speed on the house’s past. As you spend time in its rooms, my hope is that the house and its furnishing bring to mind a long held cherished family retreat. From the high Victorian front porch, thru the large 5 paneled front door, the entryway with its 10-foot ceilings and stained glass windows give you a good idea of what awaits. You can access the winding narrow stairs to the upper stories, or enter the formal living and dining room with their large matching brass light fixtures. The colorful upholstered vintage velvet chairs and couch pick up the stained-glass panes of the windows, and are a great place to sit and discuss the day, take tea or simply soak in the house's ambiance. The oval antique dining table and chairs can seat 8 comfortably (additional leaves are located in the 1st floor bedroom closet). The colored glass panel depicting The Red House hung in the dining room window was a gift from a couple that lived in the house several years ago. Off these rooms is the bathroom. The small marble topped vanity with chrome inspired Victorian taps and claw foot tub with shower head are surrounded by a multicolored tile that defy description. I have grown fond of these tiles, but I must be honest it was not love at first sight. What changed? Without my glasses, they form a nice tartan plaid. The first-floor bedroom contains a double bed from Europe. This sleigh bed with inlaid wood on the headboard and footboard faces 3 brightly stained glass windows overlooking the iris and peony garden. The 2 slight faux bamboo antique chairs used as bedside tables, are from a Yale University ballroom, so I've been told. The heart of this historic house, the sunny farmhouse kitchen has seen many a home cooked meal. Sit a spell and have a cup of coffee and plan your next delicious meal. You will find the kitchen has what you need. The apron sink, microwave, and gas stove are recent additions. Laundry/mud room is to the right. Placed In front of the window is a burgundy velvet settee that has been in the house for decades. Off the kitchen is the family room. The cathedral ceiling, pole rafters, large rock fireplace and locally salvaged board and batten siding and ancient hand hewn beams give the room a lodge look and feeling, very different from the rest of the house. Roku TV and board games are here. On the walls are several pen and ink drawings of The Red House and a photo from the 20's or 30's. From the back yard, looking at the house a friend mentioned she now knows how the old lady in the shoe felt like living in a shoe. I had to laugh. The main part of the house, tall and narrow, the fireplace room and kitchen, low slung, I saw her point, a gigantic shoe. Going back to the front hall, 2 double sash windows with colored glass cast a medieval glow over the stairs. On the second floor are 3 bedrooms. To the left is the ‘horse bedroom’, so named for all the horse artwork. The Red House brush and ink drawing is a gift from my talented friend in a shoe. The double size iron bed is from my grandparent’s farmhouse outside of Goldendale. The next bedroom forms a suite; the bigger bedroom houses a Victorian sunflower emblem double bed and matching marble topped vanity that's kept company with the laundry room settee. The smaller adjoining bedroom room contains a single sized day bed, large European armoire and vintage children’s picture books that I picked up at the Goldendale Library book sales for their vintage illustrations. The room is very cozy and sunlit. On to the 3rd floor attic suite. High above the surrounding neighborhood, these 2 rooms offers a private sitting room, Roku TV and queen-sized bed. The attic’s shiplap walls, odd ceiling angles, vintage suitcases, and wood picnic baskets harken to an earlier time. In a fashion, The Red House is like a time machine with modern amenities. For me the house brings back forgotten memories while creating new ones, I hope this is true for you too.
The neighborhood around The Red house is laid back and friendly. Take a walk to Goldendale's small downtown and chances are folks will say hi. Holcomb's Supermarket is several blocks away. Antiquing at Chloe's, is rewarding and across the way is Aimee's Attic for thrift type items. Monkeyshines down the street is a gallery, studio, and small antique shop that is owned by Sandra. You will find vintage clothing, Sandra's mosaic sculptures that are treasures in themselves and antique art and dish-ware. Next door The Glass Onion is always a great meal. For me their clam chowder cannot be beaten, but then thats probably true of everything they serve. The Town House can be counted on for hearty breakfasts and lunches. Gee's serves good burgers and old style Chinese food. For standard Mexican food there is Ayutlas Family Mexican Restaurant. In the warmer months the food truck Taqueria Veracruz serve perhaps more authentic Mexican food. There are several choices for pizza in Goldendale; The Glass Onion, Uncle Tony's, Pete's, and Papa John's. Further out in the little town of Klickitat is the funky Huntington's Steakhouse. I haven't been here, but several guest make it a point of dining here when they come to Goldendale. For coffee, friends of mine stick to the 3 coffee kiosk in town. The Goldendale Chamber of Commerce has a cornucopia of brochures for things to do and explore. They are open most weekday mornings to the early afternoon. The Chamber's web site has an up to date event calendar. Klickitat County has a number of wineries, Maryhill Winery (15 minutes away by car) seems to be the star. In season, the Maryhill Museum of Art and the Presby Museum are worth a peak for different reasons. The Klickitat trail, at Harm's Road off the Centerville Hgwy. out of Goldendale, has parking, 1 port a potty, and a small railroad trestle crossing over the Swale Creek, it's a nice start for a pleasant walk. The Columbia Hills State Park offers hiking and grand scenic beauty. The Goldendale Observatory and its maze of walking trails is just up the hill overlooking town. The Goldendale Farmers Market at Ekone Park is open on Saturdays, May to September. A road trip on highway 142 to the little town of Klickitat, and then to Lyle is a good way to get a lay of the land. This trip may be of interest to gardeners, as the little secret conifer and general plant nursery located at the bottom of the grade is one of my favorite places, as is the Milestone Nursery in Lyle, (open by appointment) specializing in Columbia Gorge natives. To the east of Goldendale is the small Dandy Valley Farm and Nursery, they have a nice selection of veggie starts, fruit trees, shrubs, and annuals. If you want to get fancy, Good News Gardening and the Garden Cafe in Hood River is worth a jaunt.
  • What a fun and quirky spot! We had a fantastic weekend and enjoyed the wonderful character in the house. The beds were clean and comfy and the kitchen well stocked. Lots of fun lore and treats to be explored. We had a tasty super at the Glass Onion, LOVED the observatory show (highly recommended) and wine tasted and hiked around the gorge. Lovely weekend!

  • The house was used for three couples. It is full of antiques and has been beautifully restored. We had plenty of space and privacy. Kitchen fully stocked with dishes, appliances, etc. Exceeded our expectations!

  • We rented the big red house for a girl's birthday weekend trip and it was simply perfect. It only took us 2 hours to drive to Goldendale from Portland on a Friday afternoon and the drive itself was beautiful. The house is incredible. It is kind of a historic museum in itself, decorated solely with quality antiques. It was well heated and full of natural light. The bedrooms were all very comfortable. We were one to a bed which are all full size so they'd be a tighter squeeze for 2 people. There was no shortage of areas to hang out in. In addition to a large, main living room, there is a lodge-y great room off the kitchen, complete with a stone fireplace. It was great for evening card playing. The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking equipment. We were able to bake, cook, and entertain easily. There is only one bathroom on the main floor which wasn't a problem for us 4 but we did make our very pregnant friend take the main floor bedroom for easy access. Goldendale is a small, conservative town with few restaurants and stores. The Glass Onion, an organic, local chef-driven restaurant was only a 5 minute walk from the house. We brought specialty cheeses and snacks with us from Portland but were able to find basics at Holcombe's, just a 2 minute drive from the house. We were happy to spend most of our time at the house, as there wasn't a lot to do in town. There is, however, the public observatory just out of town. Booking and communication with Jon was extremely easy and Jon remained accessbile throughout our entire stay. We really had no problems getting in or out. We are eager to return to the big red house in the future!

  • This is an exceptionally home! Beautifully curated interior design, clean and well cared for. Each item in the home is placed with thought and great consideration. A beautiful oasis in a very...very small and quiet town. So great!!!

    Alexis2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • We have loved staying in this house! Despite its age it's well maintained and updated. The kitchen is so usable and open, and the living spaces are comfortable. The beds are great too! This house has lots of charm and lots of comfort. It's also just a short walk from Main Street which is worth visiting. Between Main Street and the house is a hidden gem of Goldendale: The Glass Onion restaurant. So take a break from cooking dinner and visit this spot while enjoying the Red House.

    Jenni2017-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • This home is a gem. It is lovingly maintained with all the character you'd expect from a Victorian home, but well updated with fresh, clean, functional spaces. Jon has compiled an awesome binder with the home's history, and it is well worth a read. In a town in the shadow of Mt Adams still less discovered by tourists, we enjoyed the local farmer's market, brewery, and bakery, all within walking distance. Jon was a wonderful host, and I appreciate his unbelievable patience with us when I had a mom-fail moment and locked my child in the house... oops. We can't recommend this home and host strongly enough. Much thanks, Jon!

  • Fantastic and highly recommended! I grew up in Goldendale and walked by this house each day going to and from school in the late 50s and early 60s. I always wanted to see the inside, and finally had the opportunity. It is beyond my expectations. A wonderful and thoughtful preservation of this unique house, and so many interesting antiques in every room. It was beyond my expectations. And the fireplace room is beyond description: go there and you will see!

    Robert2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very unique and historic house. Great place to relax and there is a lot of rooms for multiple people to do their own things. Beautiful location for photography/video purposes and would make a great family getaway as well. The town of Goldendale is pretty small, but we immediately found an awesome pizza place, Pete's Pizza, that we dined at twice. The location would also make a great base to come back to after spending your day taking advantage of all the scenic wonders that surround the town in all directions. We will be back!

Lovely craftsman set atop the bluff in The Dalles, overlooking the Columbia River, the Washington foothills, city lights and The Dalles Dam. The home has been fully updated inside (though the kitchen still has some remaining work to be done) and the exterior renovation will follow. There is a huge front porch to enjoy the evening views. A very short walk to downtown restaurants and shopping.
Both bedroom have views of the river, territorial, and the dam and city lights. Clean, updated, stylish and cozy. Bedroom one has a super comfy queen bed, bedroom two has a queen futon and/or king sized memory foam mattress which can be laid out on floor if guest would prefer over futon.
Our home is located on 'The Bluff' in The Dalles. This is the area directly above the downtown area. It is an eclectic neighborhood comprised mostly of older homes of many different vintages and styles. Our home is on a quiet street with minimum auto traffic.
  • Enjoyed our stay! Very comfortable and quite private. We also definitely liked the location- only a 5 minute walk to downtown.

Victor Trevitt Guest House was built in 1868 and is located downtown in Trevitt's Historic District. Saved from demolition and moved twice, it has been lovingly restored. Original trim and hardware have been carefully preserved. Electrical, plumbing and drywall is all new. The high ceilings, original pocket doors, stained glass windows and antique furniture make this seem like you've walked back in time.
The living room features a 49" Smart TV with access to local channels, free Amazon Prime Video, and the ability to stream from your mobile device. Both spacious bedrooms in Trevitt House are upstairs. The Master bedroom has a brand new King-size bed and our blue room has two twin beds. The upstairs bathroom has an antique clawfoot tub with a hand sprayer. There is no shower. Our vintage kitchenette has a microwave, toaster, small refrigerator and Keurig coffeemaker supplied with coffee. There is no range or oven, but we are within easy walking distance of many restaurants: Thai, Mexican, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, and the historic Baldwin Saloon. Oh yes, there's a Burgerville close by.
Although we are downtown, Trevitt House is sitting in the middle of a large, double lot. It will be landscaped in the spring and summer of 2018. It is a short walk to Riverfront Trail, Old St. Peter's Landmark, 5 brewpubs, 4 wineries, Klindt's bookstore (the oldest bookstore in Oregon), several antique shops, the public swimming pool, library, art gallery, and the Granada Theater.

  • Chose this for the separate entrance and outside place to enjoy coffee. Was everything we hoped for- plus more! Kitchen and bathroom had everything stocked, even had eggs we made in the morning. Clean, quiet place with a comfy bed. Easy to find from directions, and pathway from parking into the house were nice to have.

  • I'll be going back to Mitchell's place next time I go to The Dalles/Dallesport area. His place was so clean, cozy, and welcoming. The views were breathtaking!

    Tom2017-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • This was great find! It was quiet with parking right out front. Comfortable, clean furnishings with a personal touch. Treats and snacks in the pantry and fridge-- we used what we needed, then went to the grocery to replenish-- my kids thought it was fun shopping for the "next family"-- a kind of pay it forward. Host has bucket of travel size toothpaste and shampoos as well-- just in case-- this was a very nice touch. I would definitely recommend!!

    Joe2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Mitchell does a great job providing extras like stocking the refrigerator with eggs, milk and more. Convenient location for hikes in the gorge. Also very quiet - I am a very light sleeper so that was a big plus.

    Barbara2017-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • The place was very nice. Clean, nice beds, kitchen was well stocked. It worked out very nice with the concert at the Maryhill winery. Mitchell was easy to contact and very helpful.

THE HOUSE WAS RESPITE FOR MEMBERS OF THE EAGLES, they could get away and so can you. I welcome you (Mi Casa Su Casa) always! Spectacular views, close to park with sweeping views, located in the historic city of The Dalles; the end of the Lewis and Clark trail - a diamond in the rough. Writers and photographers are amazed at the history, the great lore and photographic nature of the area. Great shopping history, art and outdoor activities!
Top floor with large "Great" room has breathtaking views and large master bedroom ensuite/queen bed with deck off the master bedroom. Rustic elegance: Private, Quiet, Peaceful, Welcoming and still close to everything in The Gorge: Oregon and Washington sides (Both)
House is on a small street with only 4 houses on it. Our place is at the end on a hill, so especially quiet. The community is very friendly/kind actually. We are close to a park a mile up the mountain. There are always great activities in town and there is so much to see, learn about in this historic little town.
  • Billie's place was AMAZING! The pictures don't really do it justice. The view from the living room window is incredible--you can see the whole city and the valley surrounding it. The rooms are large (the whole second floor is yours) with a lovely fireplace, massive couches for lounging, and lots of books and games to keep you entertained. It's like a fairytale treehouse. Billie was so sweet and made sure we had everything we needed. She even made us cookies! Her dog Barney is also really sweet and friendly (and I'm not usually a dog person). The house is close to everything in The Dalles and a short drive to other cities like Hood River or the wineries in the countryside. Pro tip: the driveway is a bit steep so we just parked at the bottom and walked up rather than maneuver in and out each time.

    Jennifer2017-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Billie's home is a beautiful retreat which included the entire second floor with a personal and glorious view that features Mt. Adams. It was our first trip to The Dalles, and Billie guided us to some great activities which included a nice museum, some great music, and where to buy the best nectarines we've ever had! Barney Fife (her rambunctious, friendly dog) was also very welcoming. We have already recommended Billie's home to our friends in Seattle.

    Rosemary2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Billie is a wonderful host and her home is a wonderful escape. The views are terrific and the added privacy of having your own space is terrific. The location is very close to everything The Dalles has to offer and a short drive to several hiking options and other towns. I will certainly be staying here again when I visit the area.

    Adam2017-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I loved our time in The Dalles and feel fortunate to have found Billie's listing . The second floor is very spacious with a spectacular view . Her house is up on the side hill with great privacy and centrally located to everything in town . We were especially grateful after driving around town and realizing her house is out of the fray , and in a very safe neighborhood . We knew nothing about The Dalles before this trip and cannot believe what a secret it is . Fishing was literally 20 minutes away , with my best sturgeon trip ever . There is also great steelhead opertunity at the mouths of the Klicitak and Deschutes , and both are within a reasonable driving distance . Billie is also an amazing cook and we really enjoyed cooking and talking with her , in addition to the entertainment of her hilarious dog Barney Fife , oh so perfectly named . We're looking forward to our next trip to The Dalles .

  • We stayed @ Kathy's place for 8 days. The accomodations were great for our needs. The spacious upstairs living space was private & separate from the rest of the house. Air conditioning throughout the house provided some welcome relief on some very hot days. Kathy was very welcoming & generous in making us feel at home during our stay. Hope to stay with you again, Kathy!

    William2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy was an exceptional host. We stayed there for 4 nights. She was very accommodating to our needs. She even was kind enough to provide us with delicious homemade dinner on our last night. The place was huge and more than enough for the two of us. It was a pleasure booking with her. Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in the area!

    Reanna2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Top floor of the house used for Airbnb. Large sitting area with 2 bedrooms and a bath, was very comfortable. The front bedroom had a view of the Columbia river. The hosts were very nice and knowledgeable. We loved the family of quail that greeted us whenever we pulled in the driveway.

    Alice2017-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • The space needs a deep cleaning, basic maintenance and proper pillow linens. Not safe for young children as in the living room there is a rickety coffee table, a broken glass panel in the built-in book case that would be dangerous for children as well as a steep staircase with a rickety handrail that is hard to reach from the top of the stairs. Important to know that the space is upstairs inside the host's home and she doesn't lock her doors. There is no lock on the upstairs space either. Host readily gave us a refund which was appreciated.

    Michelle2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place with a gorgeous view. Kathy is sweet and easy to talk to if you need anything. You have your own apartment, with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a large living space. All the rooms are clean and comfortable with there own tvs. Highly recommended this fun and beautiful place .

You enter through the main house and go up stairs to your own 2 bedroom, your own living room, bathroom and it has a big comfortable couch and nice TV. Ever thing you need with Amazing views. I will definitely be staying here when I am in the area if it is Available. Kathy and Dave have been great host.

Welcome to the Cowgirl Room! Enjoy a peaceful night's sleep on a Beautyrest ComforPedic mattress surrounded by eclectic, vintage Western decor that speaks to the cowgirl (or boy) in all of us. Coffee/tea in the AM, and either a continental (weekdays) or country (weekends) breakfast, made with your dietary needs in mind.
Our home is just a few blocks from downtown Goldendale, easy walking distance from shopping, restaurants, and bars. Driving distance to nearby Gorge communities (The Dalles, Hood River, White Salmon, etc.), award winning wineries, a variety of excellent microbreweries, and stunning outdoor recreation sites. Relax on our deck and watch the deer graze in the back pasture with a mug of coffee in the morning or a glass of local wine in the evening. Lawn games in the front yard when the weather is nice (cornhole, ladderball, croquet), and bar games in our basement (darts, beer pong, shuffleboard) are all available to you during your stay.
Goldendale is a funky small town on the eastern end of the Columbia River Gorge, about an hour and 45 minutes east of Portland, OR and about an hour and a half south of Yakima, WA. We love eating at The Glass Onion restaurant for delicious local fare, playing golf at the Goldendale Golf Club, a 9-hole course with views of Mt. Hood and/or Mt. Adams from most holes, drinking lots of local wine at our favorite nearby wineries (Maryhill, Jacob Williams, Memaloose, Cor, Syncline), and enjoying the scenic beauty of the region through almost limitless recreational opportunities (hiking, skiing, fishing, camping, windsurfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, and cycling are favorite activities of Gorge residents, to name a few).
