  • What a brilliant little cottage in a lovely peaceful area, we had the best weekend and our little dog had plenty of places near and far he could explore with us! Hot tub was used a lot and was perfect to end and evening in!

    Darren2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our trip was amazing! The location was great. Very quiet and rural. No light pollution so nights are really dark which we took full advantage of with star gazing from the hot tub. The lodge was stunning a lot better than we expected. Very clean and everything we needed was right there. We really do look forward to making this a regular trip

    Connor2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful relaxing stay. The walk to Cuthberts cave from the front door was a nice surprise. Not too far from Bambrugh and Holy Island approx 15 mins in the car. The cottage itself is beautiful, amazing bed! Louise is extremely helpful and would love to revisit the area again.

    Greg2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy hideaway in a beautiful, rural location. St cuthbert’s cave is within walking distance and the cottage is also close to stunning coastlines and the cheviots. Little touches like wine and snacks, toiletries, robes and nespresso coffee machine made the trip extra special. We loved the hot tub and wood fire to warm up after a day of walking. Best of all the cottage is dog friendly so our puppy could join in the fun too!

    Lisa2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and location!

    James2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully furnished cottage in a rural setting, close to the Cheviots and cost but far from the reach of our mobile phone networks!!! Highly recommended for those wishing to use as a base to explore this wonderful region.

    Nick2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage in a quiet and rural area. The cottage was very clean and came with Instructions on how to use various appliances around the house. The house and it’s facilities were great and came with everything you needed (even washing machine and tumble dryer) along with a few nice touches of a bottle of wine and crisps, etc. Louise was very helpful with replies and came round within a few minutes to help with any issues, as well as giving us a map route for a nearby walk. Had a brilliant sleep every night due to how amazingly comfy the bed was and how silent the surrounding areas were. The WiFi however can be a bit temperamental but it’s a good chance to get away from it all and relax Overall had a great stay and couldn’t recommend it more.

  • My wife, my 6 month old daughter and I recently stayed at the incredibly picturesque Dene Cottage for 2 nights and we couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more. Not only is the accommodation beautifully appointed and impeccably clean, the hospitality and warmth Georgina provided is second to none. Each morning Georgina put on an amazing spread for breakfast: Bacon, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms plus a wonderful assortment of cereals, muesli’s and Jams for our Croissants. She also offered to hold our daughter Sienna for us while we ate! Georgina is very knowledgeable about the local area and is more than happy to offer recommendations on things to see and do and places to eat. Make sure you eat at the nearby Cross Inn, a small local pub in Paxton. The food and service there is excellent. Georgina really made our stay a special one and we can’t thank her enough. Regards, The Vardis Family Melbourne, Australia.

    Michael2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wow - absolutely amazing stay at Georgina’s beautiful cottage. We were warmly greeted with a cup of tea and a lovely chat, the room was sparkling clean and extremely cozy, handy local restaurant tips, a beautiful jogging route in and out of the forest, delicious home cooked breakfast with personal touches. Couldn’t have asked for better, one of the best AirBnBs we have stayed at. Thank you so much, Georgina! :)

  • Immaculately clean cottage nestled in the woods only 5 minutes from the main A1. Fabulous host and gorgeous breakfast. We would definitely re-book.

    Ross2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place to stay. The house itself is a beautiful piece of architecture full of history. The room was spotlessly clean and very well appointed. Georgina was a wonderful host and could not been more helpful she is a very interesting lady to chat to. There are lovely walks around the grounds of Paxton Hall and a local country pub about a mile away which did amazing food (The Cross Inn) I think. Breakfast was really nice a full English plus lots of fresh fruits, yoghurts, nuts and freshly brewed coffee. Could not recommend it highly enough.

    Ray2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Georgina's place is very special, beautiful surroundings and tasteful furnishing, relaxing and quiet. Georgina is a great host and makes you feel at home . Lovely breakfast - can't really fault it. The area is lovely for walking, biking, historical buildings including Paxton House which is 5 minutes walk away. An excellent rural venue to get away from it all.

  • Really lovely stay. Highly recommend

  • Stayed one night, exactly as described. Although the Shepherd's Hut is behind a house, in a small village, you feel very secluded, very comfortable with scenic views. If you're looking for something simple, rustic and too escape from the busyness of life then James' Shepherd Hut is perfect. Enjoyed our stay, would stay again and highly recommend! Also the assortment hamper was a lovely touch, that made us feel very welcome.

Discounts available on stays of 3+ nights during October to February. Simply click on CONTACT HOST below to enquire. Our lovely holiday home, Mary's Cottage, is set in the beautiful North Northumberland countryside just a few miles from the Scottish Borders. In a peaceful village it offers country walks from the door, and combines tranquility and style with warmth and comfort. The perfect romantic, rural retreat at any time of the year.
Our cosy, romantic cottage has been renovated and insulated to a high standard. We've used gentle Farrow & Ball colours, comfy sofas and bed plus beautiful pieces of art by local artists to create a lovely, relaxing environment. The cottage is our own holiday home and as we don't live locally we employ a housekeeper to clean and prepare for our guests. This means you can expect a high standard of cleanliness and professionally laundered bedding and towels. LIVING/DINING ROOM: Comfy sofas to snuggle on, a log burner with fuel supplied and a cosy corner for dining. There's a wide range of books and DVDs (including some about the history of the local area), Country Living and Dog Friendly magazines, games and colouring books with coloured pens/pencils for time spent relaxing indoors. KITCHEN: Well equipped and modern, the kitchen contains a large fridge-freezer, a wine fridge, dishwasher, single oven with induction hob* and a microwave. Complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, sweetener, herb teas and a basic range of herbs, spices and cooking oil are supplied. (*Please note that the British Heart Foundation recommends that people with a heart pacemaker should get no closer than 60cm to an induction hob). UTILITY ROOM: The utility room houses a washing machine (washing capsules supplied) and separate tumble dryer, iron and table-top ironing board plus room for coats, boots/shoes and doggy paraphernalia (bowls for food and water, poo bags, tick remover and shampoo). A fire blanket, fire extinguisher, basic first aid kit, insect repellent, sunscreen lotion and torches are also kept in here. BEDROOM: Comfortable double bed with Egyptian cotton bedding, plenty of hanging/drawer space for clothes and remote controlled bedside lights. SHOWER ROOM: Modern shower/wet room with underfloor heating and a heated towel rail. We provide fluffy towels and quality toiletries including shampoo and conditioner, body wash and body lotion. TECHNOLOGY: Free wi-fi. Television with DVD player and eclectic mix of DVDs. Chromecast: enables you to 'cast' your favourite TV shows, films, music, sport, games and more from your phone or other mobile devices straight to our TV. Hepburn radio which enables you to play music etc from your mobile/tablet via Bluetooth by simply downloading the View Quest app. OUTSIDE: At the back of the house is a sunny south-facing area for sitting out, with table and chairs provided. The stone bench outside the front door is the perfect spot to sit on a summer's evening with a glass of wine to watch the sun setting. The side/rear area is gated and secure for dogs. Guests have access to a lockable outbuilding enabling secure storage of fishing rods, bikes etc. We have left our own bikes and cycling helmets in the outbuilding and guests are welcome to use them AT THEIR OWN RISK. We've also left folding chairs, a windbreak and a coolbox for picnics and days out at Northumberland's coast. The house is situated on a quiet road just a short walk from the centre of the village of Branxton with its charming village hall, beautiful 12th century church, the 'smallest visitors' centre in the world' and a way-marked walking route around the historic Flodden battlefield. The village, with just 60 dwellings and no shops or pubs of its own, is surrounded by farmland making it wonderfully free from traffic noise and unusually peaceful, especially in the evening. FACILITIES FOR BABIES: A high chair is available upon request. DOGS: Two small or one medium sized well-behaved dogs are welcome but, for the sake of our other guests we'd appreciate it if you would try to keep them out of the bedroom and off the furniture. We provide dog towels, bowls, torches for late night wee-walks and a supply of emergency poo bags. There's also a handy outside tap for cleaning up boots and paws after muddy walks. Please mention if you are bringing your dog at the time of booking so we can leave them some treats. PARKING: Parking on the quiet road right outside the cottage is free and unlimited. The area behind the property is our neighbour's access route to/from his garage so must be left clear at all times.
The peaceful village of Branxton is perfectly positioned for exploring the Northumberland National park, walking in the Cheviot Hills, fishing on the Tweed, or visiting Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle and the Farnes. It is just a few miles from the border with Scotland and roughly equidistant from the lovely market town of Kelso with its Flemish-style square and coastal Berwick-upon-Tweed. The cottage is also a perfect base for trips to explore the wonderful cities of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Edinburgh as they are both just over an hour's drive away. The village itself is rich in history being adjacent to site of the Battle of Flodden, fought in 1513. The battlefield trail, with interpretation boards explaining the stages of the battle which led to the tragic death of James IV of Scotland, provides a fascinating walk around the area with beautiful views over the village and across the countryside. There are many other lovely walks to be taken direct from the cottage or just a short drive away and OS maps of the area are provided for guests' use. We also provide a selection of books and DVDs about the history of the area, the Battle of Flodden and the Border Reivers who raided the entire Border country along the Anglo-Scottish border from the late 13th century to the 17th century.
  • Absolutely stunning cottage in a lovely part of the world. 20-30 minutes or so from beaches, Berwick, Lindisfarne etc. but absolutely quiet and peaceful. Perfect for dogs and relaxing.

  • An absolutely outstanding place to stay. Location is fantastic for anyone looking for a nice quiet getaway. The local tips were fabulous and led to some great food and outings. The property itself was very comfortable and clean. It was as advertised and ideal for anyone looking for a getaway in the border region. Could not fault it at all. Lots of helpful information provided both via email and the welcome booklet, and all the amenities to enjoy a relaxing weekend.

    Ben2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • WOW from the outside, Marys cottage seems small and unassuming but once you step inside, its a different kettle of fish, I wont give too much away but you wont be disappointed, Julie and Nigel are very responsive and they really do make sure you have everything you need

    Debbie2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent communication with Julie, Mary's Cottage is exactly as it looks in the photos, comfortable, clean, warm, homely but it is the attention to all the finer details that impressed us. From the folder which contains the necessary advice you get in rented accommodation but also includes instruction booklets on how to use the equipment at the property. So much tourist literature divided into areas to make it easier to decide where you would like to go, books and DVDs on the local history ( loved the DVD on the Border Reivers) as well as a large collection of DVDs, reading books and magazines to cover all tastes, games (loved the Scrabble cards) quality eco products to use, lovely pet friendly touches, basket of treats for us, the list is endless. You must go to see for yourself! Thank you Julie and Nigel

    Lorraine2019-12-07T00:00:00Z

This charming and tastefully decorated holiday home offers two comfortable bedrooms, a living area with dining space, 2 bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen, outside seating and parking. We have gone out of our way to think of everything you will require to enjoy your stay in the picturesque village of Norham. The owners are happy to accept one well behaved dog and ask that guests leave a £20 contribution towards the cost of the cleaning in the property on departure.
The village of Norham really is quite special in that it still offers everything you need yet is a 10min drive from Berwick Upon Tweed or 30min from Kelso. Norham has an award winning butcher, a baker (open only in the morning), a convenience store stocking all the daily essentials and also 2 local pubs- The Mason's Arms is certainly worth a visit. These are all just a few minutes walk from the property. The River Tweed weaves round the edge of the village and offers lovely walks and views, whilst the Castle sits at the foot of the village and is steeped in history. It is also worth noting that on a Thursday night the local fish and chip van comes to the village- a great option for supper, you will see how popular it is as you join the que! With all this on the doorstep what more could you want when escaping busy every day life for a few days.
  • Cosy comfortable house in Norham. Very much enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended.

  • Our experience at Bow Well Cottage was outstanding. The facilities provided meant that you really didn't have to take anything special with you such as kitchen equipment etc as it was all provided. The cottage was absolutely spotless and very comfortable. The location was great being in a small village which had plenty of different walks in the locality. Also, it was ideal for travelling around to the beaches and countryside. We never go back to the same place to stay as we like to see different places but we might make an exception to Bow Well as it was so enjoyable.

    Andrew2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Bowell lodge is a lovely quaint place to stay. It was a good size for 4 of us and our dog & there was loads to do within a half hour drive radius. Would definitely stay again.

    Michael2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Immaculately clean, homely and well equipped, this was probably the cleanest place we have ever stayed. The only minor downside was that the garden is not enclosed so if you have a dog you need to keep an eye on it. Would have no hesitation recommending it to anyone (and already have done so!)

  • Stylish place with the Wow factor. The house has plenty of space for 4 people. It is sparkling clean and has every amenity you could wish for in a holiday home. It's within walking distance to the castle and local amenities plus a short drive to Berwick train station. We would definitely return and recommend to anyone thinking of visiting this beautiful area.

  • A great cottage in a lovely village. Has everything you could want in a holiday home. Beautifully clean and well equipped. A great location to visit some wonderful places on the doorstep.

  • Bowland lodge is every bit as good as it’s pictures. We loved our week in Northumberland. Norham is a lovely village and the local butchers is amazing. Also the Thursday night fish and chip van were very good. Norham is quite close to some stunning beaches and Holy Island is only 30 mins away by car. The lodge was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We would highly recommend staying here and it was great value for money.

This beautiful cottage overlooks the Norham Village Green & is a 2 minute walk from the River Tweed - it is in the most idyllic spot. With 2 local pubs, the village butcher, baker, paper shop... and the weekly visit from the fish & chip van (on a Thursday) Norham really does offer a perfect location to escape to. The cottage has recently been tastefully renovated from top to bottom to ensure you are comfortable during your stay. The cottage sleeps 4 guests between two bedrooms.
The property has a welcoming living room with an electric fire, a smart TV and Wifi. The living room leads into a bright and surprisingly spacious kitchen with a door leading out to a private terrace. From the private terrace there is also access to the back lane which leads to the river. Upstairs there is a large kingsize double bedroom with ample storage space and a travel cot, if required. There is also a twin room which is slightly smaller but extremely quiet & comfortable. On the first floor you will also find the family shower room and loo.
The neighbourhood is extremely special in that it offers beautiful landscapes with both hill walking and stunning beach walks. There are several lovely villages and towns both on the coast and inland which can be explored by using Norham as a base, or.....if you want to you can just stay put. The joy of Norham is that the village itself offers all the basic supplies you could need...the pub serves good food and the butcher sells delicious pies...along with wine and local cheese!
  • Excellent attentive communication, a beautiful home and a relaxing stay and so close and convenient for all local attractions.

  • A lovely, warm, welcoming cottage in a fantastic location - literally on the village green in the beautiful, friendly village of Norham - never been in a place before where everyone you'll meet has time to say "Hello" or "Good Morning", and stop for a chat. The cottage was very clean, newly decorated and has been renovated to a great standard. Plenty of space for a family to have a relaxing break. Being centrally located in the borders you were never too far away from the historic sites of Northumberland and Scotland. Also I'd certainly recommend this cottage to Cyclists as there is some stunning rides to be had around the area (and I'll be back with my bike to take advantage of these soon). A great village with a couple of good pubs - The Masons Arms definitely a favourite. Sadly we didn't stay long enough to try the legendary Fish and Chip van (visits on a Thursday and very highly recommended). We'd definitely recommend this Cottage - can't wait to visit again.

  • A really lovely, spacious cottage. Each room feels big enough for a family or couples getaway. Can’t fault any of the rooms really, and it was clean and fully kitted out with everything we needed.

    Leila2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at this cottage on the green at Norham. It is a lovely village and surprisingly well provided for with a shop, butchers, bakers, pub and weekly fish and chip van (which was fantastic). The location on the green meant our children could play on the swings while we sat on the bench at the front of the cottage enjoying a coffee. The cottage itself has been very recently renovated and is neat and tidy. It is not huge but plenty big enough for our party of two adults plus two children and baby. The twin room is quite small - fine for siblings but not much floor space. Bathroom has a lovely walk-in shower. All in all we were delighted with our choice of holiday cottage and would recommend it.

  • Beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and a wonderful base for exploring Northumbria. Highlights were the super comfy beds, large power shower and fully equipped kitchen! It really felt like a home away from home!

This is a welcoming community with fantastic local amenities including two pubs, the celebrated Foreman's Butcher selling a fantastic selection of meats, pies, local cheeses, wines, a baker, gunsmiths and village shop. Fishing and Hunting Supplies can be purchased locally. Located only a few minutes away from one of the world's greatest salmon rivers, The Might River Tweed, the cottage is a perfect base for fishing parties. Prolific lower beats such as Pedwell, Ladykirk and Horncliffe offer fishing almost all year round. In addition, Norham Angling Association permits can be purchased in the village for some brown trout and grayling fishing. Whiteadder a few miles away. Also to be explored and enjoyed are a network of fabulous river and countryside walks. Once you step out the door you will very quickly realise why Norham is considered one of the UK’s favourite villages. The Norman Castle ruins depicted in Turner’s iconic paintings and the fish and chip van on a Thursday night are just two of its famed delights. More extensive shopping is available around eight miles away in Berwick-upon-Tweed. Coldstream, Cornhill and Allanton are home to some of the borders most reputable restaurants which pride themselves on using the fresh local produce. In a nut shell, Norham is an ideal base for discovering all that the Northumberland's countryside has to offer. The area is a hidden gem for many and offers priceless experiences at great value. So wether you plan to explore the 25 miles of Heritage coastline with its golden sands and secluded rocky coves, take a trip across the causeway to the mystical Holy Island of Lindisfarne, enjoy the amazing views from the cliff tops at St Abb’s Head, take a boat to the Farne Islands to see the resident colonies of Grey Seals and Puffins on Farne Islands or visit the charming market town of Wooler, Maraes Cottage will be the perfect place to come back and rest up as you prepare for your next adventure. Other attractions and places of interest that we would recommend include the following: The region’s rich and often bloody history is reflected in the magnificent chain of castles that punctuate the landscape. In addition to Norham Castle, besieged at least 13 times by the Scots, those nearby include dramatic Bamburgh, perched high on its rocky outcrop, the vast, romantic ruins of Dunstanburgh, the palatial splendour of Floors, Chillingham, reputedly one of the most haunted buildings in England and home to the world’s only herd of wild cattle and foreboding Alnwick, made famous as the location for Hogwart’s School in the Harry Potter films. The beautiful coastline provides the perfect opportunity to try your hand at kite surfing, sailing or coasteering. The nearby stables at Kimmerston offer tuition and farm hacks as well as beach rides and treks in the Cheviot Hills. There is excellent cycling on quiet country lanes around the village and on dedicated cycle routes including the Tweed Cycle Way and the Coast and Castles cycle route. The area is also a golfer’s paradise with several well-regarded courses nearby including the Championship Qualifying links course at Goswick and the Roxburghe Championship Course outside Kelso. For something a little different, clay pigeon shooting and archery are available locally and beginners are very welcome. Paxton House is just down the road which has a lively events programme as well as housing an important collection of late 18th and early 19th century paintings loaned by the National Galleries of Scotland. Union Chain Bridge at Horncliffe, the first suspension bridge of its kind in the UK. Chainbridge Honey Farm for a wander around the vintage museum and sample some fabulous honey. Also nearby is the Ford and Etal estate where attractions include Northumberland’s only thatched pub, and the delightful Heatherslaw miniature steam railway. The magnificent city of Edinburgh is an easy day trip either about an hour by car or 45 minutes on the train from Berwick-upon-Tweed. We would be delighted to support you with any bookings or further information regarding any of the above listings. Should we be of any assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.
Norham is a small town with a big offering. The community is warm, friendly and welcoming. The local amenities offer excellent service at great value. A selection of Hunting and Fishing supplies can be purchased within the village.

  • This is a fantastic AirBnB close to the border between Scotland and England. The property has obviously been finished with love and care and we were delighted with the whole experience. Richie and Yvonne could not have been more helpful and we always felt we were being looked after during our stay. Even over Christmas they kept in touch by text to make sure we were settled in ok. I would definitely recommend staying in this property and we look forward to returning in the summer when we can explore the local area.

A more extensive range of shops, pubs and cafes can be found in the quaint market town of Coldstream (5 miles) where the shopping is small and friendly with a good mix of independent outlets running the length of the High Street, including a family butchers, fruit and veg shop, bakery and small Co-op supermarket for holiday provisions. The Coldstream Gallery is a lovely spot to browse art, ceramics and jewellery by local designers; or pop into Calico Interiors for lifestyle gifts and accessories before coffee and cake at the charmingly named ‘Mad Hatter’ nearby. A number of larger supermarkets, including a Marks & Spencers food outlet can be found in the historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (13 miles), or picturesque Kelso (14 miles) which has an excellent selection of independent shops set around a Flemish style market square. The cottage is located in the heart of North Northumberland and is exceptionally well placed for exploring the wider area. Seven miles in one direction will take you to the edge of the Northumberland National Park, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty with over 400 square miles of stunning landscapes, criss-crossed by over 700 miles of walking, biking and riding trails which follow the routes of ancient cattle drovers, taking in Iron Age stone fortifications and traces of Bronze Age hillforts amidst the tranquil and rugged landscape. Hop into your walking boots and you can join Northumberland Park Rangers for a guided walk from Wooler where you will learn much about the heritage and wildlife of the area, or follow sections of St. Cuthbert’s Way and enjoy some outstanding vistas along the route as it winds its way to the dune-fringed sands on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. For cycling, you will find everything from gentle low-level meanders to big hill country treks, including long-distance routes such as the Pennine Cycleway or the cycle challenges of the Wooler Wheel Hub. For families, the Breamish Valley is a popular area with pretty river picnic spots where children can paddle, followed by a walk to the lovely waterfall at Linhope Spout where you may even spot some wild Cheviot goats along the way. Alternatively, a warm welcome awaits you at Ford & Etal Estates (3 miles) which has a super range of family friendly activities with over twenty attractions to explore. Take a ride on Bunty on the very charming 15” gauge steam railway, follow the mouse trail around the Heatherslaw Corn mill or there is fishing, canoeing, cycle hire and a riding centre all nearby. For art lovers, a must-visit is the pre-Raphaelite murals at the Lady Waterford Hall, or explore the ruins of Etal Castle or the local heritage sites of nearby Flodden or Duddo Standing Stones, Northumberland’s equivalent of Stonehenge. The stunning heritage coastline is just a short half-hour drive away with miles of pristine sandy beaches, jolly pubs serving the freshest fish and chips, and picture postcard coastal villages with charming galleries and gift shops. Experience the exhilarating thrill of kitesurfing at Bamburgh, coasteering at Beadnell or perhaps just the simple pleasures of a picnic and a game of beach cricket on sands which remain almost deserted even in the summer months. History buffs will be enchanted by the rich heritage of the area, where dramatic castles and grand stately homes punctuate the landscape here, including imposing Bamburgh perched on its rocky outcrop above Bamburgh Beach; Alnwick, star of the Harry Potter films; or Chillingham, said to be the most haunted castle in Britain and home to the only wild cattle in the world. Fishing is available on the River Till about a ten minute drive and is one of the area's best kept secrets with an impressive sea trout run each spring said to be the best in the country. Trout permits are available for as little as £5 per day and rods, reels and waders can be hired locally.
  • We visited the Smithy for a long weekend getaway with our dog. Loved everything about this place and would 100% recommend and book again. The size of the accommodation was easily large enough for two people and our large breed dog. It is fully fenced the entire way around so you can rest assured your dog is safe to explore, and is in an amazingly quiet location looking over a field. Perfect base to explore with many amazing walks nearby. You’re on the edge of the Scottish Borders, national park, Cheviots and only half an hour from the coast. Some great touches on arrival, freshly baked bread, lemon drizzle cake, flapjack etc. And logs supplied for the log burner. Overall, an amazing stay here, the only negative we could find was the overly soft bed, but that is just personal preference. Can’t wait to come back here.

  • This wonderful, well-equipped cottage is just perfect to discover the beautiful landscapes of Northumberland and the Scottish borders. It is a tranquil, inspiring place, ideal to relax and enjoy your holiday.

  • Perfect little house for two - plus dog. Beautifully presented, great location. So quiet and peaceful. Welcome pack with home made goodies was a bonus. We made trips to Lindisfarne, Berwick, a boat trip to the Farne Islands and to the battle site at Flodden Field. The Collingwood Arms at Cornhill-on-Tweed and The Border at Kirk Yetholm are well worth a visit to eat in the evening. Very relaxing few days.

Whippet Lodge is a beautifully cosy yet deceptively large, traditional stone cottage in the ancient village of Swinton. Once belonging to the Swinton family, and built from local 'Swinton Pink' sandstone, the cottage is steps from spectacular countryside - perfect for walkers, photographers, artists and nature lovers. There is a dog friendly pub serving quality food just across road. Dog friendly with a large enclosed rear garden, we are well located for both the Borders and Northumberland.
Whippet Lodge owners, Musician and Songwriter Gary and Illustrator and Designer Helen, find the cottage the perfect place to relax, work and be inspired. The peace and quiet is priceless, and they'd like to share their bolt-hole with you when they aren't using it. Gary and Helen are happy to be able to let out the whole house to up to four guests, and if you'd like to bring your pet, the charge is £10 per animal per stay. The décor is colourful yet relaxing, and reflects the surrounding area and wildlife, as well as the couple's love for vintage and the unusual. Whippet Lodge has many thoughtful touches such as a slow cooker, so that explorers can have a hot meal waiting for them when they return from their adventures, a Tassimo coffee machine (and otherwise fully equipped kitchen), doggy towels, bowls and blankets, spare duvets for those chillier evenings, remote controlled heaters so guests can have their room toasty warm before getting out of bed and a lovely old deep enamel bath to soak in. Other amenities include a fully working open fire, with a starter supply of kindling and logs, a selection of herbal teas, as well as a start up of milk, tea and coffee, a selection of DVD's, games and jigsaws, WI-FI, and an Amazon Firestick so that guests can log into their favourite TV and Film apps on the big screen.
Swinton dates to the 11th century or earlier, and is associated with the Swinton family, who took their name from the settlement. In 1769, the village was re-designed and a market was created, now marked by the market cross. (Whippet Lodge was built some time between then and 1865, which is as far back as records allow at present). A parish church was built and still stands today. In the churchyard, the Swintons have their own burial enclosure. In 1843, the Free Church of Swinton was built, but in the 1900s the spire was removed and it became the local village hall. According to oral tradition, the name of the village is derived from the number of wild boars the land was once infested with. Swinton House, 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the village, dates in its current form to 1800, and was the residence of many of the Swinton family. It was built to replace an earlier house, which was destroyed by fire in the late 18th century. Both the house and the nearby 18th century dovecote are protected as category A listed buildings. There is a very pleasant pub, The Wheatsheaf, which serves good quality food and drink, just across the road from The Green. A small children's play area, picnic tables and football nets are also on The Green, just outside Whippet Lodge in fact. Almost like having your own private park, with the kids in view and calling distance.
  • Loved it. Great place. Spotless, well kitted out, great location for exploring the Borders and the Coast. Will definitely visit again.

  • Whippet Lodge is a wonderfully cosy getaway in a very quiet village, and our hosts were very helpful, communicative and personal throughout our experience. Perfect for us to getaway as a family and reconnect in the countryside, and great for dogs too, especially the garden.

    Emma2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage sitting beside a village green in a peaceful Scottish Borders village. Short drive to Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Northumberland coast, or alternatively you can reach Edinburgh in about 75 minutes. The cottage is exquisitely decorated with rich fabrics and wallpapers, a crackling log fire and many fine details. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well-equipped. We arrived on a cold, dark, windy night in March and unlocking the door was like opening the door to a treasure-trove of sensory delights. The garden is delightful, a long strip of grass, ideal for the dogs. We would love to re-visit in summer, to enjoy the Northumberland beaches. The scenery surrounding the cottage is wild and rolling, broken up by stone walls with views to the mountains in the north and the Cheviots in the south (on which there was still a sprinkling of snow). Thank you very much for a very memorable and rewarding stay.

  • This was our second time staying at whippet lodge and I can only describe it as a must visit if you are looking for peace and tranquility in stunning surroundings. The house is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean and Gary is always on hand to answer any questions or queries. We will definitely be back.

    Mark2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely quiet few days, pictures of lodge very accurate and it was immaculately clean. Lots of communication before and felt totally prepared. Note left with a few helpful tips. Really enjoyed our stay, definitely will return and will pass on the details for some of our friends who want a dog friendly stay! Really worth a stay.

    Holly2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic cottage, bigger than expected and very clean. Loved the quirky decor and real fire, after a day out walking great to come back to. Kitchen a great space for cooking a meal, which we did every night. Great pub and landlord at Leitholm 4 miles down the road.

    Keren2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant time. The cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed and more. Couldn’t fault a thing.

    Andrew2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Totally wowed by this place. Gary and Helen have really thought things through from the lovely welcome sign to the hairdryers. The lodge is beautifully decorated and deceptively large. It was really clean when we arrived, with lots of amenities and a fully stocked kitchen. The living room and open fire was complete with a basket full of wood for the fire. My OH was impressed by the nexflix (clearly doesn't take much.) And the bed was super comfy, which is what every one wants! We did move things around a little, and put the coffee table behind the sofa so the dog could have the rug on an evening. There was no way he was getting on the lovely sofa, that being said I think it would have meant one of us being on the floor haha! He did love pulling every blanket out, only to decide that his own was the best! Their collection of objet d'art is stunning! I loved the wooden entomology by the kitchen door in the living room. The Koi wallpaper in the bathroom was giving me ideas on what to do with our own bathroom too. They are clearly dog lovers, I mean Whippet Lodge says it all! But we found lots of doggy touches from a treat on arrival to spare bowls and balls for a game of fetch in the huge secure garden (although our goat / dog cross did almost escape over the compost heap right at the back!) There are plenty of walks, and we took Gary's advice for morning walk around the village by going left out of the house and left or right through the gate into the farmers field and following the footpath around. Afternoon walks were along the Tweed in Berwick and we headed to Cocklawburn Beach on the Saturday. The local pub/hotel, although nice, was shockingly expensive! Almost £10 for 2 pints! and almost £15 for a gin and tonic and a whiskey. Gary and Helen, thank you so much for a lovely break away. It was amazing to hear the birds tweet and watch some lovely evenings roll in. We will be back in the Summer!

  • Claire’s place far exceeded expectations and we wished we could have stayed longer! It’s supremely peaceful and quiet, set in such a tranquil location, we absolutely loved the setting! The place is immaculately clean and there was the added bonus that as well as our room we had use of a dining/living area and enjoyed spending evenings sitting in the garden with a glass of wine as the sun went down , watching the stars coming out in those big big skies of Northumberland. It’s perfectly located for exploring the Northumberland coast, Holy Island, Farne Islands and the many castles in this area. We can’t wait to come back!

Lovely room in beautiful Berwick-upon-Tweed town. Walking distance from shops, train station, tourist attractions, beach and the golf course. The bedroom on offer is a single bedroom with a pullout bed that turns into a double, the price is for a single room so please don’t expect to have the same standard of a double room for the price paid. Towels, hairdryer, bedding provided - bring your own toiletries. Note: Gingie our friendly cat and Pandora our rascal Labrador are part of our family.
PLEASE NOTE: the price is for a SINGLE bedroom with pullout bed that turns into a double. The price is for a single bedroom occupancy but happy to accommodate a couple sharing the pullout bed AT NO EXTRA COST as long as you understand that this is completely out of kindness as you are only paying for a single person’s occupancy. PLEASE, keep your expectations realistic that this is ideally a single room hence the price as double rooms in town will cost you more!
Train station, town centre, local shops and tourist attractions, the landscape is the best mixture between country and sea. Nearby tourist attractions includes Holy Island of Lindisfarne causeway, Alnwick Castle (home to Harry Potter inspired events), Duddo standing stones (north Northumberland own Stonehenge), Bamburgh Castle ( Anglo-Saxon fortification - Last Kingdom novel inspired and Netflix series, and many other films), Chillingham Castle ( the most haunted castle in UK), Cheviot Hills, St Abbs ( Transformers - New Asgard), Lindisfarne Islands, Northumberland/ Scottish Borders beautiful coastal path, 60 miles away from either Edinburgh and Newcastle.
  • A wonderful home and wonderful family. Pandora and Gingie are both so sweet and Juliana is a very welcoming host.

Linnet Cottage is a pet friendly cottage situated on a small organic arable farm 10 minutes from Berwick-upon-Tweed. Linnet has great views out to open countryside and is only a 15 minute drive to one of the most stunning beaches in Northumberland. With secure bike storage this is a perfect place to also enjoy the many excellent cycle ways. The cottage is the perfect base for exploring Alnwick, venturing to the Edinburgh Festival or visiting Holy Island. Our local pub is a 20 minute walk.
Our holiday cottage has wonderful views of open farm land and you can relax in the morning watching the wildlife from your super king size bed.
Linnet Cottage is situated on a 600 acre organic arable farm. It is very peaceful. Your neighbours are quiet and have lived here for a long time. The farm has three holiday cottages in total and everyone respects each other's privacy. The beach is 15 minutes by car and there you will find some of the most spectacular unspoilt Northumbrian coastline.
  • We had a lovely stay, the cottage was well-equipped, clean, cosy and in a great location. The bed was very comfortable and the shower hot and powerful.

  • Lovely farm cottage, spotlessly clean and in excellent location. Many thanks Laura

    Julie2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned home from a lovely weekend staying at Linnet Cottage - two days probably wasn’t long enough! We have family nearby so it was the perfect base to be with our two very young children! Laura couldn’t have done more for us in terms of providing equipment (travel cot, changing mat, bed guard etc - she made a special visit to the cottage with the bed guard when I asked if she had one, which was so very appreciated!) and it’s things like that when travelling with young children that make all the difference - so thank you! It’s such a beautiful cottage in the most perfect scenery with miles of fields and gorgeous Northumberland landscape to look out to! But also great distance to Berwick and locals supermarkets! The cottage itself is clean, very well equipped and although we didn’t have our dogs with us this time the garden would have been perfect for them. We will return to this gorgeous place, and thank you again Laura for your amazing hospitality, what a find!!

    Cassie2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Laura is very kind person who can do many things that you want, help us find a taxi from the town, her cottage is perfect nice quiet clean and warm, you can see horse in the yard , 🦅 on the tree, lovely dog around the corner. Hope next time we back again!

    Ni2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cottage with great views out the back. Very clean and cosy with some nice touches. Would definitely stay here again and recommend-thank you!

    Annette2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely rural setting & views, with loads of things to see and lovely walks nearby; great base for an outdoorsy holiday with our dog. The cottage is really comfy and has everything you need.

    Katie2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Linnet Cottage is a lovely base from which to explore Northumberland and the Borders. It was small but perfect for the 2 of us plus dog, and the fixtures and fittings were a cut above what I usually expect from airbnb -- the kitchen was well stocked with decent kit, the bed linens were gorgeous Egyptian cotton, the shower was fantastic! The postage stamp garden looked directly over vast rolling fields, so it had the advantage of a vista, whilst still being a contained space for the dog. Thornton farm is a working arable farm, but still quiet and peaceful. But having a car is key, as most everything is a drive away (supermarket 7 minutes drive to outskirts of Berwick, etc). Still, with a car, the location is convenient to loads of lovely walks, beaches, and castles. Laura was an exemplary host, accommodating to allergies and full of helpful local information. Highly recommended.

  • What a treat to be welcomed and pampered at the Orchard House! Very grateful that we found this lovely stopover during our long car trip. The fire was on upon arrival and we enjoyed a delicious stew. We slept well, had a wonderful morning stroll in the Northumberland fields and a lovely breakfast made it all complete. Beautiful house, very inspiring. Thank you!

  • We booked very last minute, received an instant reply, and were invited to check in early. Louise and Hugo are very relaxed, genuinely warm and welcoming. The room was quiet and comfortable. A lovely lounge, with a roaring fire, for a cosy evening with a bit of Netflix was an unexpected and really appreciated treat. Fresh eggs from their own hens, home made apple juice and stewed apples from the orchard that gives this lovely home it’s name ..... a delight! We can honestly say we enjoyed staying here more than any b&b we can remember. Book without hesitation, you will not be disappointed.

They were incredibly understanding when we showed up a bit late and even offered to look after our dog while we went out to get food. Their place was just what we needed after a long drive: a relaxing spot to sleep and recharge. Thank you so much for the homemade apple juice and cider, it was delightful! Will definitely try to be back again during summer! Cheers!

  • This is a lovely, restful, positive and luxurious home to stay in, shared with warmth and grace and perfect care by Claire and Philip, in a quiet and rather delightful corner of the world. Recommended utterly to anyone who want to have a really lovely room/s in a really lovely house with the very best of caring hosts. We only had one night but want to return for longer if at all possible, it being a highlight in an otherwise long and tiring road trip from South Devon to take a child to university in Scotland.

The cottage sits just 3.5 miles from Cornhill-on-Tweed which has an excellent village shop selling a super selection of fresh local produce, including picnic hampers and scrummy home baking. It is also home to the highly regarded Collingwood Arms which has a pub as well as a superb restaurant for lingering lunches or fine evening dining. Alternatively, pop your wellies on and take a fifteen minute stroll over the field and woodland margins to the popular Bluebell Inn for a relaxing drink after supper.

  • On our way from the Highlands to the ferry in Newcastle, Berwick was the ideal location for an overnight stay. The cottage is very nicely decorated and was a warm and cozy haven on a cold and stormy December night. The town of Berwick pleasantly surprised us with some nice shops, including a well-stocked organic shop on South Street, and also several nice cafes and pubs. The next morning we made a detour to Holy Island, highly recommended!

  • The Loft is a perfect place to stay in Berwick. The amenities are excellent and much thought has gone into the furnishings and design, making it feel very comfortable. Emma is an excellent host, providing many extras, even fresh milk in the fridge! The Loft is ideally situated to explore all that Berwick has to offer. A real gem, and I’m sure I’m not the only guest who would happily return there.

    Christine2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Emma's loft is a really stylish and comfortable space close to the town centre. It has a private entrance, ensuring your stay is nice and quiet. It makes innovative use of space and feels very modern (I particularly liked the wee kitchenette area!). It's perfect for a short sight-seeing stay in the area.

    Kevin2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This a really great place to stay if you're in the region. We were touring the Northumberland coast and Scottish Borders. The loft was really lovely. Really well located within Berwick (which is a lovely, interesting town), with access through the two small courtyards. The loft itself is a good size, not too small, not too big. Really beautifully furnished and decorated, it was super clean and very comfortable with a great atmosphere. Nice and bright. Great bed, lovely bathroom with a great shower and bath. There's no kitchen, but the small fridge (which was already stocked with milk) and the selection of teas, great coffee, cafetiere, plates, cutlery etc is enough if you have some food with you. Emma was a great host, and super easy to communicate with. We had a great time. Highly recommended.

  • This is a fabulous room in a great location right in the middle of the delightful Berwick-upon-Tweed. Though in the middle of town the room is really quiet. Loads of space and easy access off the street but overlooking a sweet little courtyard at the back. Emma could not do enough for me and they were always very responsive to even the most minor query. Incredibly good value for a fine private living area in the most convenient location.

We're sure you'll love this very spacious delightful homely cottage, formerly one of many old tailors premises in the historic village of Allanton, nr. Duns. Set in a lovely rural village setting (with wonderful pub!) in the beautiful Scottish Borders near Berwick-on-Tweed on the East Coast Mainline train network. With a lovely garden to relax in, river walks right next to the village and an award-winning pub on your doorstep - you'll have everything you could wish for for a holiday in Scotland.
Purves Cottage is a prominent and historic building, formerly a Tailor's business, one of many in the village back in the early 1900's, which has now been lovingly converted to a delightful spacious holiday cottage. It is in perfect location for walks or fishing on the Whiteadder and Blackadder rivers at Allanton (just 100m from the cottage) and nearby on the Tweed in various locations throughout the borders. **The famous Jim Clark Rally is set to return to the Berwickshire roads 8 & 9 November 2019!*** Clean, friendly dogs and well-behaved kids most welcome ;-) HEATING: The house has central heating throughout and a store of coal & logs is provided for the fires ready for the colder months. BEDS: There are 3-4 beds available. 2 bedrooms; one upstairs and one downstairs. The bedroom downstairs has a king size bed. It also has a day-bed which can be used as a single or another double using the other part single bed from upstairs (although if used as a double, it will be a tight squeeze in this room). Drawers and wardrobe storage are provided in this room also. The day bed parts can be moved to other living areas if you wish. The upstairs bedroom has a double bed, single bed (which can be part of the day bed downstairs for a 3rd double) and closet storage, with skylight roof window to the rear looking out over gardens and the fields beyond. BATHROOM: is located on the ground floor and has a stand-alone shower with rain head and body jets if you want a massage experience! Plus a roll top bath for relaxing in. UTILITIES: There is a dishwasher, a washing machine in the utility room along with iron and ironing board. There is no tumble dryer. OTHER: We have provided a selection of items should it be a rainy day and you want to chill inside. Books, board games, cards and a selection of DVDs are available. GARDEN: There is an enclosed garden out to the rear by the parking area looking out over the field with BBQ facilities, table and chairs and a whirligig washing line should you need it. There is a log store here too. There is a water hose fitted outside if you want to wash dogs from a muddy walk! NEARBY: In the village itself is The Allanton Inn pub & hotel, an award-winning establishment with rooms and dining. They have a number of events each year including a summer Beer Festival and Garden Party (June). And just 100m up the street it's not far to stumble home after a tipple or two. William & Katrina serve real ales changed weekly, over 40 gins, a great selection of wines and fabulous food. They have a beer garden to the rear and dogs are welcome there too. On sunny days you can dine alfresco in the pretty garden looking out over the fields towards the coast. There is play-park further up the village for young children, and you have access to some of the most beautiful countryside and riverside walks. The cottage is perfectly located to enjoy an abundance of sights, places to visit, attractions and activities for all tastes including amazing walks, golf, fishing, shooting, cycle routes and surfing. St Abbs and Coldingham on the coast a few miles away are excellent for surfing, sea-kayaking and diving. **The famous Jim Clark Rally is set to return to the Berwickshire roads 8 & 9 November 2019!*** There are a number of historic houses and castles nearby such as Manderston, Thirlestaine, Mellerstain and Floors Castle all a short drive away throughout the Borders. Alnwick Castle & Gardens (Harry Potter fame!) is a short drive down the A1, as is Bamburgh Castle on the fantastic Northumberland coast. You can take a drive down the coast through a number of pretty coastal villages and towns. Holy Island or Lindisfarne (featured in TV series Vikings) is a real treat to visit with lovely local shops selling gifts, art and ice-cream, Lindisfarne Castle and beautiful historic Priory to walk around. Holy Island is cut off twice-daily from the rest of the world by fast-moving tides which cover over the causeway road to and from the island - so be sure to check the crossing times or you'll be stranded!
Chirnside is a mile away and has a small but well stocked co-op for provisions. It also has a butchers, newsagent, post-office and a chip shop.
  • We had an excellent stay at the house which was much bigger than expected. Very well thought out with everything we needed and more to make it even more comfortable. Lovely welcome basket and loads of useful information. Real home from home. Great walks from the door and a lovely pub. Kids didn’t want to leave! Thankyou!

    Helen2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is beautiful, a really good size and Sally & Ian are great hosts. We decided on a few nights stay with the kids and our small dog. The welcome treats for us all and for our pup were a lovely touch. We brought our own board games but there was no need to.. the cottage pretty much has everything we needed and is beautifully finishes and spacious. We didn’t get chance to sample the local pub or local walks as amazing weather lured us to the incredible beaches and castles on the Northumbrian coast which has to be a must on everyone’s bucket list.... so we may have to come back! 100% recommend this place. Thank you for the great stay.

    Laura2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Sally & Ian’s cottage was spacious, clean, very well equipped with anything you can need on a stay away from home, fully refurbished and warm. They have the most comfortable sofa and every room is well equipped, especially the kitchen, with a brilliant and big hob/oven, a big kitchen table and all the utensils you’ll need. The bath and shower were a treat. And Sally responded promptly to all of our messages and provided detailed information for all the questions we had previous to our trip. We’d definitely go back!

    Helena2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our short stay. The house is well equipped and the extra touches were much appreciated. Nice little village with a lovely pub and plenty to do in the local area.

  • Excellent location for many interesting things to do and see. House is really well presented and has the wow factor. The local pub is recommended, good food and a good ambiance. Hosts are welcoming and friendly and made us feel at home and settled quickly. Little touches were nice (welcome basket and wine). We would definitely recommend - you won't be disappointed!

  • Wonderful place to stay! Really impressed by how welcome we were made to feel - all down to the little touches that make a big difference! Great base for exploring the local area - we went to Berwick, Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, and would also recommend the Jim Clark Museum at Duns! Great welcome book left by the hosts with handy tips about the area and really nice local dog walks. Gorgeous space and very comfortable. We hope to visit again!

    Ginny2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Sally and Ian’s cottage is beautiful. We all felt very at home from the moment we walked in. The welcome basket and bottle of wine was a lovely touch to the start of our holidays. There was plenty of space for all of us 2 adult and 3 kids (14, 10 & 7 ). The cottage was well equipped - home from home. Loved the Smeg oven - have oven envy!! in a good position to explore the borders. Allanton arms is literally a cocks stride away and offers so lovely food. Really enjoyed and recommend visiting St Abbs - lovely little fishing village. Went to Ebbs Carr for tea and cake - fab!! Hope to stay again soon!!

A traditional shepherd’s hut with a modern twist, surrounded by native hedging with uninterrupted views over open countryside. This cosy retreat promises to let you unwind in country style. You can put your feet up in front of a toasty log burner after a day exploring or watch the sunset while barbequing in the evening… and when the night falls, the dark starry skies here are sensational, just the thing before snuggling up in a luxurious double bed, listening to the calls of the tawny owls.
We believe at the Shepherd's Rest that your holiday with us is an opportunity to unwind, enjoy the beautiful surroundings and reconnect with them. So we don't supply Wi-Fi on site (although a 4G signal is available) and in the Hut we supply a radio. We don’t supply a TV or DVD player as way of a digital detox. We supply plenty of books and games in the Hut for you to read or play, so you can have time to relax, unwind or even be inspired! The Kitchen area in the Hut has the following facilities : fridge, belfast sink for dishwashing, microwave oven, single induction hob, electric kettle for making hot beverages and there is also a gas BBQ for alfresco cooking. On site facilities consist of three shared additional Huts, two with flushing toilets & washing facilities, the other cabin has a mains electric shower. They are always pristinely presented and beautifully decorated. There is a kitchen building, which has a large sink with hot and cold water, tourist information leaflets, free range eggs for sale, hairdryer and a table and chairs. Cars remain in the adjacent secure car park, and we do not accept dogs. As we have a small farm, you are welcome to meet our animals, including sheep, pigs, hens and ponies, along with viewing wildlife such as deer, buzzards, lots of farmland birds, foxes and badgers.
We are fortunate enough to live on a small farm in Foulden, a rural village in the eastern Scottish Borders, just 5 miles from Berwick-Upon-Tweed and its mainline train station. It is a secluded quiet location, free from traffic jams and suburban noise, allowing you to unwind and relax with just the sounds of wildlife and farm animals as a backdrop. We are close to some fabulous beaches, Coldingham and Cheswick being our particular favourites, magnificent castles and stately homes including Floors Castle, Manderston and Paxton House. Nearby Ayton, is home to The Hemelvaart Bier Café, a trendy continental style bier café bar which hosts live music, film and comedy events. The Scottish Borders is a beautiful, relatively undiscovered region, the gateway to Scotland, convenient for Edinburgh, the Lothians and North Northumberland. We started our family farm here in 2003, built our own farmhouse and transformed the land into a nature-friendly grassland farm, planting diverse traditional hedges for wildlife corridors and encouraging biodiversity. By grazing our sheep and Scottish native breed ponies on a non-intensive system, the wildlife here has flourished enormously over the years. We enjoy a huge variety of small birds, from robins, yellowhammers, wrens, house sparrows, tits and woodpeckers to buzzards soaring high on the thermals. The summer is very special, with the return of swallows from Africa and skylarks hovering way up in the sky, singing their hearts out! In the autumn and winter, fieldfares and huge flocks of migrating geese pass through. At night, we are lucky that there is no light pollution, allowing fantastic stargazing opportunities – you may hear barn and tawny owls too! In the spring when we are lambing, you can see the lambs with their mums, exploring their brand new world. You can also see groups of deer, pheasants, badgers, foxes and hares on the farm.
  • Lovely tranquil place , just far enough off the beaten track to escape from the mayhem of everyday life. Total peace and quiet through the night, no light pollution and amazing countryside!

  • The Shepherd’s Rest is a perfect little getaway and we really enjoyed our stay. The hut is adorable, well presented, well equipped and very cosy with log-burner. The location is peaceful and secluded yet handy for things to do and see n the Borders. The communication with Mark was always quick and helpful. We would highly recommend this little shepherd’s hut. We’ll most definitely be back : )

  • The shepherds hut is located in a small campsite surrounded by fields and next to a working farm/the owners house. The views are beautiful, as is Foulden. There are lots of lovely surrounding towns and villages such as Berwick and Ayton, and it’s not too far from Edinburgh. There were plenty of cooking facilities, a well kept shower and toilet block a stones throw away from the cabin, games in the cabin, eating utensils, a heating oven, and pretty much everything you could need/want and more. Would definitely rec

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the hut in this beautiful part of the country, and would have happily stayed for longer. It’s on a lovely little spot on a quiet campsite and has everything you need. Mark and Alison were lovely hosts and I’d definitely recommend this place as a quiet retreat.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Shepherd's Hut. It was peaceful, clean and quirky- just what we wanted and more! Thank you.

    Tim2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at the Shepherd's Rest hut. Mark was very welcoming and friendly and the hut itself was super clean with little touches like milk being already in the fridge and flowers on the table.A wood burning stove, complete with a supply of logs ,was a bonus although we didn't need to light it as the hut was very cosy. The toilet was only yards away and there is an efficient hot shower too. A separate kitchen hut has a sink, hot water, a small table and chairs ,a supply of farm eggs/beans/soup etc, with an honesty jar, a microwave and even a hairdryer ,all of which must be great if you are tent camping. The surrounding area has lots of attractions but our favourite was at Hay Farm Heavy Horses. Gorgeous Clydesdale stallions, foals and mares which we were fortunate to be able to watch being shoe'ed and having dental treatment carried out. All in all, we'd highly recommend Shepherd's Rest hut ......you'll love it!

  • The house is very good, the room spacious, clean and well heated. Above all, Gordon is very attentive and always ready to help. Very good advice also for visiting the region, which is varied and interesting. I recommend!

Situated in scenic Scottish Borders with easy access to Edinburgh and Berwick. The apartment is self contained within the main farmhouse, with its own entrance, bathroom, kitchen/dining/living room and two bedrooms - one double, one twin with single beds.
Belville farmhouse is a large Victorian stone built house, situated in the glorious Borders countryside with views to the Cheviot hills. There is a working farm close by and in the Spring time you wake up to the sound of bleating lambs! The apartment has been newly renovated to a high standard.
It has lots of scope for rural pursuits including walking, horse riding, and is close to the River Tweed where there are opportunities for fishing. The area is steeped in local history. The annual Common Riding attracts many riders across the Borders and provides a good spectator attraction. There are a number of good pubs and restaurants within easy reach.
  • Really cosy apartment. Lovely touches like bread , shortbread, chocolates and an nespresso machine . Comfy , cosy bed . Lovely quiet and rural location .

  • Joyce provides a very warm welcome to her comfortable flat located in a working farm in the quiet countryside not far from the coast and unspoilt border towns and villages.

    Fiona2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • The flat is exactly how it is described and the additional touches - flowers, coffee machine, bath products etc were much appreciated.

  • An absolute gem of a find. Hidden in the countryside of the Scottish Borders is this spotlessly clean and well equipped apartment. Joyce was there to greet us on arrival and couldn't have been nicer. She quickly arranged for a stair gate and a cot for my children, which was greatly appreciated. The 2 bedrooms were spacious and very clean. The beds were extremely comfy. Loved the little extras in the kitchen, coffee machine, bread, milk, eggs, biscuits etc especially the home made jam which was delicous. Overall we loved our stay and highly recommend.

  • What a fantastic place to stay. Has everything you need and more. The children loved the animals and all the outside space. We were made to feel very welcome from the get go. We most certainly recommend staying here.

This cottage is 1 mile from the A1 and just under a mile from the beach on a national cycle route. Berwick is approximately 6 miles away where there is plenty to see and Lindisfarne is a few miles away. The area has an abundance of beaches, castles and historic houses. The accommodation offered is a double room with 5ft bed, television, and provision to make hot drinks in the room. Guests have use of their own private bathroom, not en suite, with shower over the bath, washbasin and toilet.
This is a rural area 0.8 miles from the very extensive beach and 1 mile from the A1. Farm vehicles pass by very regularly through the day, and this can be late at night a couple of times in the year. Public transport is on the A1 and the nearest shops are in Tweedmouth which is 5 miles away. Unless you are keen walkers you will probably need your own transport or be prepared to use taxis.
  • Thank you Julia for the lovely stay. The place was spotless and extremely close to one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen 😍

  • This is a charming part of the world! Julia's cottage is a great jumping off point for hikers wishing to explore Holy Island as we did! Berwick is also lovely. The room was spotless and had facilities for making drinks, and we could store some food in the fridge. It was also excellent value.

  • Julia was friendly and helpful and the room and bed were very comfortable. I slept better than I have in ages and would come again if I’m in the area

  • Julias place is a wonderful place to stay all round. Lovely peaceful location. Julia is the perfect host.

  • Julia's place is an oasis of calm serenity about 15 minutes from Lindisfarne and Berwick (by car). The room is quite large and the double bed is new and very comfortable. Plenty of space for luggage and parking. Private bathroom - newly installed and very beautiful. The entire home is spotlessly clean. Pictures don't do this place justice. Julia is so warm and welcoming. I can't thank her enough for her hospitality and generosity. 5/5 is well deserved.
