  • Caroline made herself available to give us a lovely tour of the house and explain how the appliances worked and so on. The house itself was very beautiful and clean. Though not in the most accessible place it was a lovely getaway from the city.

  • Just returned from a 2 day stay at Orchard Cottage; we wish it could have been longer! Caroline made us feel very welcome and the cottage was even better than we expected. The kitchen was incredibly well equipped, the lounge was cosy, warm and comfortable, the bathroom had a huge shower and the bedrooms were a delight.

    Kim2016-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very spacious cottage, bright and clean. Well located for the North York Moors. Quiet and peaceful.

    Mary2017-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful and very well equiped cottage. With the food items Caroline provided it was more like B&B than S/C. You could not ask for any more. A good nights sleep is helped by a very comfortable bed. The area is excellent for anyone wanting a walking/cycling holiday/break. there is so much to do in and around the town. We are certainly going to return next year and our daughter & family are looking at booking also for next year. We could not fault this cottage and would certainly recommend it.

  • Everything was exactly as described in the listings, and Sue and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely area of Yorkshire. We intend to return for a longer stay next time.Caroline made us very welcome and was close by if we had any queries.10/10

  • If you're looking for a peaceful, Yorkshire retreat, without being isolated from good pubs, restaurants and shops (all quickly accessible by car, however, Tesco does deliver there too!), you won't be disappointed by this cottage! Outside, the cottage had a wonderful farm-house character, complete with farm-yard chickens allowed to roam the grounds. Inside, the cottage was thoughtfully decorated, well-equipped, and with enough space for the four of us and our dog. We used the cottage as our base for exploring the North Yorkshire coast, and at the end of each day, it was lovely to return to the cottage and relax in the homely-setting. Caroline, the host, was welcoming and always on-hand for our questions. Despite living in the neighbouring farm house, Caroline struck the perfect balance of ensuring we had everything we needed, whilst giving us space to enjoy our stay. We would definitely recommend staying here.

    Michael2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline was a great host. We stayed at this specifically to attend an event in the village so didn't have much time to explore the area. But the cottage itself was lovely: clean, spacious, warm and comfortable, we had a great weekend stay.

    Flora2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely wonderful time staying in Caroline's cottage. Beautiful surroundings and a very warm welcome. Loved getting to know Molly the cat and Dot the dog as well. Such thoughtful and generous little touches in the cottage made it a really relaxing time away. Would definitely recommend going to stay. We'll be back!

Come and enjoy a retreat to the homely Grange Cottage, situated in the village of Cowesby within the North York Moors national park.A popular destination for walkers and lovers of wildlife but also just a couple of miles off one of the main north south routes for those wanting to break their journey . We aim to provide a really comfortable and quiet location for your stay
Converted about eight years ago from a barn, Grange Cottage comprises a large sitting room, and fully fitted kitchen as well as a cloakroom / WC downstairs with two spacious double bedrooms with good ceiling heights and a bathroom upstairs.
It is situated equidistant from the market towns of Thirsk and Northallerton , and is about 30 miles north west of York. Thirsk and Ripon race courses are close by, and the North York Moors National Park offers many recreational possibilities. We are in the middle of Herriot country and the Herriot museum is only a short distance away Furthermore, the Independent school, Ampleforth, is a 30 minute drive while the cities of Leeds, York and Middlesbrough are all less than an hour away by car.
  • Beautiful property in a very beautiful location (quiet and rural). Louise and Hugh (who live next door) gave us a very warm, friendly and 'personal' welcome taking time to suggest places to visit while we were staying with them. A lovely welcome pack awaited us too which was very thoughtful. The property was spacious, clean and well furnished - a real home from home and we would happily come back again or recommend to others.

    James2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely peaceful cottage, very well equipped and in the prettiest little village. Out hosts were very helpful and welcoming.

    Lynn2017-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts were very friendly and lovely with my daughter, a real child friendly place to stay. We felt if there was anything we needed they would have helped us, but we also had the place to ourselves and could relax. They even helped us restart our car in the morning when we discovered the battery was flat! The cottage was impeccably clean and very comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need. It was very peaceful and safe, a lovely relaxing place to stop off during our weekend away.

    Mona-lisa2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place and beautiful village. Highly recommend

    Daryl2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • The Grange cottage was just lovely. A little haven. Everything we needed was there with little extra touches too. Louise and Hugh are great hosts, very kindly booking a restaurant and helping us with walks.

    Diane2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Grange Cottage is a lovely and very comfortable cottage situated on the verge of the North York Moors Park, so nature is literally at your doorstep ! The cottage is very cosy and warm; extremely well equipped with all the mod cons needed for a perfect stay and full of light. It is impeccably clean, which for me is a very important aspect to consider. Louise and Hugh, have been very good hosts. They are both warm, friendly and welcoming. Considering, we have visited during the very busy summer season, they went to the extent of ringing different local pubs to find us a table for dinner on a Saturday with success ! Delicious Prosecco, was awaiting us at our arrival! Our dog Jack, a Lurcher absolutely enjoyed the walks. An easy hour's drive from Whitby, Grange Cottage is a pearl to be discovered in the quiet and charming village of Cowesby. We highly recommend a stay and have already booked an encore for Christmas !

    Leticia2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Louise and Hugh's cottage was absolutely lovely. The location is beautiful and they were incredibly hospitable and accommodating despite our very late arrival! A lot of effort had obviously gone in to make the cottage feel like a home away from home. The fridge was filled with milk for teas, juices for breakfast and complimentary fizz! The beds were very comfortable, perfect after our long drive. We loved our stay and would love to visit again in the future. Louise and Hugh were the perfect hosts!

    Sarah2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic cottage in an idyllic location. The cottage is spotless and well equipped with lovely comfy beds after a long day. Louise and Hugh we very welcoming. The best Airbnb we've been to. We're already planning our next trip.

My place is close to north york moors james herriot museum, great views, restaurants and dining. You’ll love my place because of the friendly neighbourhood light and cosy cottage with many facilities. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
  • This is a lovely little cottage, just off the main square with all its convenience. There' dedicated parking in the litte mews where this is one of about ten sweet little cottages. Thirsk is beautiful and really well located for touring. The house is in a perfect spot, next to the stream with its ducks, and a two minute walk to the square. It is quite a small property, but certainly all you need for a base. My partner and I are both six foot and the property was perfectly fine for us. The place is very well equipped, with everything you would need. You could move straight in! The host even provided milk, eggs and juice for breakfast which was a nice touch. In summary, a perfectly positioned and well equipped little cottage that offers great value cosiness.

  • My first airbnb trip. The rest have a lot to live upto..... Excellent location, everything within, literally, a few minutes walking distance. Very picturesque location and wildlife on doorstep. Very well equipped property. I particularly liked the slow cooker, knowing dinner would be ready after our days out. Fantastic music collection on site.

    Graeme2017-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely and quaint home. We throughly enjoyed our stay there. Perfect for two people. But three will work as well. The babbling brook was wonderful to wake up to. Everything Thirsk has to offer (which is a lot)is within walking distance. The neighbors are helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this beautiful little cottage.

    Laura Jo2017-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great house right in the centre of the delightful Yorkshire town that is Thirsk! In very close walking distance of the town centre and a short drive away from all that North Yorkshire has to offer. The house itself is lovely, and there was a welcome breakfast and milk etc left for us which was such a nice touch. As other reviewers have mentioned, the property is a bit dusty with some cobwebs in corners but this was not a major problem and the house was very clean apart from this. For such great value and location I really cannot complain, and hope to stay again next time I visit Thirsk!

    Raffaella2017-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Johns place is in a great location within Thirsk. The apartment is a cute little place and it's really quiet considering it's right in the middle of town. Free parking in the courtyard is a real bonus. We did enjoy our stay however we found both beds very uncomfortable and did affect my wife's sleep quite considerably. An addition of a mattress toppers would go a long way.

    Chris2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • The location is excellent, right by the Cod Beck. There is a designated parking in a pretty courtyard. The neighbours are very friendly. However it does need updating and is more cluttered than the photos suggest, but the price does reflect this.

    Karen2017-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and good value

    Stephen 2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely cosy cottage which provided me with my home away from home for a week in Thirsk. It is very close to the market square and has a beautiful outlook on to the riverside. Good facilities and central heating made drying clothes easy. Only thing to be aware of is that the shower is situated in the corner of the master bedroom, however it has excellent pressure and worked well for me. John and Sue are good communicators and made check-in and check-out easy.

The Studio has the sweetest small garden and a lovely summerhouse with a view of the village and valley, absolutely stunning. We were very comfortable, and really enjoyed our stay. Would love to come back.

Boltby is a good location - close by to lots of walking, shopping and eating opportunities but the village itself is very quiet.

  • We were looking to experience a stay in a rural hamlet and Diana's studio at Boltby offered just that. As it turned out, the location was idyllic, the room was expansive and our hosts went the extra mile by providing for a warm fireplace to welcome us in ... oh, and some lemon cake too. Perfecto! Pity our stay was so short. Thank you Diana.

A secluded getaway, night life only extends to the twit twooing of the owls. Nestled into the forest with a beck trickling by. It's perfect for those wishing to log out and explore the countryside on foot. Tons of walks including a gorgeous 4 mile round walk taking in 11th-centuary Rievaulx Abbey ruins and a cup of tea at the cafe along the way. The chocolate box town of Helmsley is just five miles away with walled garden, castle ruins, shops, restaurants and amenities.
A self contained unit with a spacious bedroom, bathroom and sitting/dining area. No kitchen, but there is a kettle with tea and coffee making facilities and a small fridge. The cottage is situated next door to the host, who are on hand to help. DAB radio with aux, DVD library and wifi running at typically rural speeds.
Located on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park makes our cottage ideal for exploring the local breathtaking scenery, beautiful old market towns of Helmsley and Thirsk and picturesque villages such as Rievaulx. Perfect for visiting the historic sites of Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley Castle as well as our modest but beautiful 1100AD Church in Old Byland. The cottage is located in an utterly idyllic and secluded part of the world, really you won't believe your eyes.
  • We stayed a couple of days at Katy's and it was exactly what we were looking for! Remote but easy to find, a great natural spot to leave urban lifestyle behind for a little while! The little cottage is perfectly functional, super clean and well decorated! We also greatly enjoyed Katy's cooking, as we tried her scruptious dinner and breakfast :-) Katy and her husband are super friendly hosts. Many thanks again for having us!

    Lucie2017-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect for a relaxing break in an idyllic setting. It was just what we needed! Katy and Scott were the most friendly, helpful hosts we could have hoped for and Katy's meals were outstanding! We've had a wonderful time.

  • This place was great for being secluded yet close to lots of long walks. It was exactly what we wanted.

    Emma2017-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Old Byland was everything you could want from a country getaway. The cottage was so cute and cosy, and set in an absolutely idyllic setting. We were able to totally switch off, and our hosts helped us to find out more about and explore the local area which was so beautiful. Katy was a fantastic host, who communicated with us quickly and accommodated all our needs, helping with local restaurant/ trip tips and providing us with the best breakfast we've had in a long time! We would go back again in a heartbeat. Thank you.

    Becky2016-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is absolutely in the middle of nowhere (though Katy was very helpful at directing us) and set in wonderful countryside. The hosts were extremely welcoming, and knew exactly what to suggest in terms of walks and visits. We felt very well looked-after and had a really wonderful, relaxing few days.

    Nick2016-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was exactly what we wanted. An incredibly scenic and idyllic setting for a relaxing getaway. The cottage is lovely and cosy and although nice and secluded, only a short distance from Helmsley and Rievaulx Abbey which are both worth a visit. With literally no light pollution at night it was also the clearest night sky we'd seen in a long time. Katy and her partner were both accommodating and friendly. We opted for Katy's breakfast which was ample and really tasty, setting us up for the day. Definitely recommend this. The directions Katy supplied were perfect and we found it no problem. Driving through the villages and farm just added to the experience. We would happily stay here again for longer. Thanks again to you both!

    James2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful secluded location, relaxing and peaceful. Great hosts with amazing food available (we really should have taken advantage a bit more!) ideal if you like walking, very close to Helmsley and a multitude of sites, tourist stuff and pubs with good food and beer, but not overcrowded. The place is a real treat, would definitely come again. Thanks Katy and Scott!

    Rob2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I wanted some time away to relax over the summer, so we booked Kathy's accommodation. It was absolutely beautiful! A wonderful location, very peaceful, and it's always nice to be located by a stream! Katy and Scott also provided food for us at an extra cost for an evening meal and breakfast, and this was amazing! We would definitely recommend!

Suzie was wonderfully accommodating during our stay. All communication before the visit was good. The cottage had everything you could need including unexpected extras such as milk, bread, coffee juice and even a bottle of wine. We were further delighted by a lovely base of fresh flowers . We will definitely be returning Thanks Suzie Lisa

  • Such a perfect get away from the city. Arrived to a cosy quiet cottage with a mini bottle of red and white after a long drive... and a good coffee! The bed was soft and comfy, the bathroom was nicely finished and the nearby restaurants recommended by Suzie were great! Also great for trips into the moors! All in all it was a great experience and if I go back to that area I will be booking it again, it had it all!

On working dairy farm this cosy wooden chalet offers, a fully equipped kitchen with oven and hob, fridge with small freezer compartment. Flat screen TV, sofa, dining table and chairs. King sized bed, good sized wardrobe and en-suite shower room.
This is a small but perfectly formed chalet with plenty of space to do your own thing cooking etc. It also has a private outside space with seating area.
As this is a dairy farm you don't have a lot of neighbours's. The cows are often outside the windows. There is a beautiful uninterrupted view of the hills from the living area
  • In a rural area close north yorkshire moors. Plenty of footpaths directly from Chalet, villages and pubs close by.

  • We had a fantastic two night stay here in this dog friendly chalet in the middle of a working diary farm. Lovely views of the local area and fantastic hospitality from both the owners. We will be heading back. Chalet is fully equipped with kitchen bathroom shower and living room. You don't need to take anything other than something to eat and drink. Even milk orange juice and bread was provided. Would 100% recommend.

    Jaime2015-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for five nights in July. Nicki gave us a very friendly welcome, providing some useful information about the local area. The farm is in a beautiful location, surrounded by fields and looking up at the Moor. We could hear farm activity during the day, but this was minimal. It's very quiet at night. The cabin itself is a good size for two. We found it clean, well organised, and comfortable, with nice touches of decoration. The kitchen is well equipped and everything was in good working order. You definitely need a car staying here, but we had no problem finding it with our satnav. We did easy day trips to Whitby and Helmsley/Rievaulx Abbey from here. We'd recommended this accommodation to friends.

  • As describe the chalet was located in the country area, was so warm and cosy and a lovely break away from busy life.

    Gemma Claire2016-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at the chalet. Nicki was very relaxed and made us feel welcome. The chalet was perfectly sized for a couple for a night away. It was very clean, tidy and perfect for two. We drove into Whitby which was apron an hours drive and then came back and sat in the garden area with a glass of wine. The overall experience was perfect. We would definitely recommend.

  • Loved our 2 nights here, chalet is immaculate and has everything you need, and the location is beautiful with the moors right on your doorstep. Hosts are brilliant and had even got in milk, bread, tea, coffee and orange juice for when we arrived. Would definitely come again!

It is calming spacious and has fantastic access to the countryside, the sea and to cities.
The countryside- the moors the woods and the forests.
  • A perfectly located cottage for seeing both sides of the Yorkshire countryside. The cottage was everything we expected and more, well cared for and presented with lovely touches like the cake to welcome us. A truly lovely place to stay. Thanks Catherine.

  • Lovely well equipped cottage. The family enjoyed waking up on a farm playing with the Dalmatians and the cat. Catherine was a great host and her farm produced produce was amazing. Great place to stay.

    Fraser2016-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • It was a lovely cottage with very high quality finish. Interesting art work. Everything we needed and more. Great entertainment from the pigs - on arrival we were tempted by the offer of buying bacon but couldn't do it after meeting the pigs. Catherine, daughter and dogs all very friendly and delightful.

    Peter2016-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Catherine's cottage. The cottage is very nice. The ground floor is large and has lots of light. It feels like being outside. Everything is new and clean. The location is excellent with many things to do in the surroundings. The communication with Catherine has also been very good.

    Francisco2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • After we had some trouble with our missed luggage at the airport, we arrived at Catherine's cottage. It was so wellcoming with a tasty homemade cake... and I also appreciated the flowering twigs of a fragrant butterfly bush on the window board. The cottage was very cosy and comfortable, the kitchen well equipped. A fine atmospere was created with interior decorating, furnishing and art. We enjoyed it very much to stay here and would like to come back one day.

    Ulrike2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great, high-spec cottage in perfect location to explore the area. The piglets, horses and cats were a particular highlight for our 3 year old, as was the mini climbing frame in the garden.

  • What a fantastic place to spend a few days, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our daughter loved waking up to all the animals. The house is really well equipped, finished to a really high standard and spotlessly clean. We will definitely come back. Thanks

  • Myself and a group of friends stayed in David's home over bank holiday weekend. The house is gorgeous and has plenty of space, especially for 7 of us. The facilities and appliances provided are top notch and there were no times we felt there was something we needed that wasn't there. Communication was great throughout from the booking process through to check in. I'd recommend David's house to anyone wishing to get away with a touch of luxury.

    Laura2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • We booked David's house for our baby daughter's godparents to stay in for her christening this weekend. I grew up near Stokesley and we were returning home to christen her at the church where we were married. David was really helpful and really welcomed us into his lovely home. It was the perfect location for the christening and for our guests to explore Stokesley and the surrounding area. Thank you David!

  • David was easily contactable and communicated everything before the trip. His aunt who showed us around the house was lovely and made sure we knew where everything was. The place was nice, the lounge and fire had a lovely atmosphere of an evening. Pub/restaurants/takeaways and a co-op on the doorstep which was great for a chilled weekend away.

    Gemma 2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay. David was very nice and welcoming. The house was warm and clean, with great wifi and tv etc. The house suited our needs perfectly as a family of 6. David was super willing to help and answer questions. We will definitely return.

  • Lovely cottage to stay in, spacious, warm and in a great position in Stokesley with parking nearby, we knew the cottage was on a main road but weren't bothered by the traffic noise. Met on arrival by one of the hosts relatives who was helpful and gave us a good intro to the property. The kitchen was well fitted out with lovely finishes - iced water on tap and ice cubes on demand were very popular with our children! The flame effect gas fire in the lounge was great for our evenings in and the heating system warmed the place really well. Beds were really comfy and our children loved having their own room and a double bed each. Felt really fortunate to be able to stay in such a lovely place.

    Lesley2015-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Dave had a family member meet is on arrival to show us round the property ('Aunt Roz' - lovely lady). We were due to arrive a little earlier than the check-in time and Dave was more than happy to accommodate our request. He also contacted us on the night of arrival to make sure we'd settled in and check that everything was ok and comfortable for us. He continued to make regular contact (by text) to make sure we had everything we needed. I thought this was a nice touch that he cared. The property was as described, very comfortable and had everything you'd need, especially for a longer stay (16 nights for us). Because of the size of the property, we were able to have a few family members come stay with us which was a huge bonus given we were visiting from Australia. Stokesley is a beautiful area (I know the area pretty well) but Dave passed on his own knowledge of the area which was appreciated. I loved staying at this property and would definitely stay again. Highly recommended.

    Ali2015-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was lovely and well appointed and very spacious - perfect for 6 people. Easy parking close by. Good communication with David by text and with his Aunt who was there to greet us and show us round. The weather was cold but the central heating kept us nice and warm and the gas effect fire in the living room was great and very atmospheric. The big screen television was a bonus although we didn't use it. Washing machine and tumble dryer available but we didn't need to use them The pub opposite served a really excellent pint Very much enjoyed our stay and would come back again.

    Judy2016-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • David house is the ideal home from home! Check in was very welcoming and Roz had even got some milk in for us so we could have a cup of tea! Beds were amazingly comfy! Everything you need for a perfect trip with friends or family in a great location! Thanks David!

  • Accommodation was clean and tidy. Enough space for a family of 5. Location is beautifully nestled in a dale with great walks from the house. Jean had a good list of local walks to share. Loved using the fire which seemed easy to keep going all day and night. Bring a torch as it's pitch black at night -great for seeing the stars though. We will consider coming back

A spacious cottage set in a quiet Mews which is tucked away, yet in the heart of a bustling market town. All facilities are within walking distance such as shops, supermarkets, lots of places to eat out. The cottage is very well equipped & makes for a really comfortable stay. We have lots of friends & family stay previously & now we have decided to open it up to others - we hope you enjoy your stay!
This is a quiet area where neighbours are very respectful of each other. This area is suitable for families with lots of activities for children including several playgrounds within walking distance from the property.
  • The place is very comfortable with a lot of additional amenities like a coffee machine with the capsules. The property was clean, and spacious, easily accessible and only a very short walk from both Thirsk town centre and Tesco. We found the place very comfortable, and quiet. Would definitely recommend it to other travelers to Thirsk

  • Amanda's house is really lovely. The downstairs lounge-diner is bigger than it looks on the photos - plenty of room to relax in. The bedrooms are really comfortable and the showers were great. The house was very clean and there was a lot of attention to detail. Checking in and out was really easy due to the safety box and Amanda responded quickly to messages. The house is in a great location to visit Thirsk itself and is also very accessible for the surrounding area. We were there for a wedding in Osmotherley and found it very convenient. The neighbours were also nice and helpful. Thanks, Amanda, for a lovely stay!

  • Excellent cottage in the town centre. Literally a 30 second walk away to the square. Really well presented, clean and far more spacious than what the pictures show! Communication with Amanda was great and she quickly answered any questions I had. We had two cars with us. One parking space is right outside the door and we put the other one in the leisure centre car park. It's less than a five minute walk away so no issue at all. Would highly recommend! Excellent value for money

Bakery Cottage is a delightful cosy cottage, tucked away in a secluded area yet close to the heart of the market town of Thirsk. It is ideal for couples wanting to relax and we happily accommodate 2 small dogs or 1 medium dog. The property is on 2 floors, with a living room, Kitchen, Bedroom and bathroom Formerly a bakery and dating back to the 1870’s this charming cottage has an abundance of character and provides a warm welcome to couples looking to relax and recharge their batteries.
The historic city of York is just ½ hour away and well worth a visit. The famous White Horse of Kilburn and Sutton Bank are situated 4 miles away. It’s well worth a visit to the local Tourist Information Centre on arrival, as they are more than happy to help you choose places to visit. You really will be spoiled for choice. Bakery Cottage was originally part of the local bakery that belonged to the Rymer family. —The mill which was situated nearby, (it is now the walled garden area) was active in grinding cereals into flour and for producing cattle feed for local farmers for many years. —Originally the Mill was water powered using the ‘undershot’ method – the ‘undershot’ wheel is probably the oldest type of waterwheel having been developed over two thousand years ago. —The bread was sold in the end double fronted shop that faces Millgate. —The cod beck runs along side the cottage which merges into the Swale. It originates in the Hambleton Hills above Osmotherly, flows into the Cod Beck reservoir, running parallel along side the A19. Osmotherly is a beautiful little village and ‘The Sheep Wash’ is a super place to take your dog for a walk and have a picnic by the reservoir and woods.Aswell as boasting it’s own museum (free admission) and The James Herriot Museum, Thirsk also has plenty of traditional shops and tearooms to choose from and even it’s own race course if you fancy a bet. Thirsk is the principal market town (markets held on Saturdays and Mondays) of the Hambleton Hills, forming the western part of the moors and is a haven for keen walkers and cyclists with numerous pathways and cycle tracks close by. It is an excellent centre for touring the whole of the Yorkshire Dales National Park as well as the North York Moors and Coast. In the famous James Herriot stories created by the writer Alf Wight, Thirsk is the fictional ‘Darrowby’, a central location in the tales featuring the activities of a Yorkshire vet. The World of James Herriot Museum in Thirsk occupies the original surgery of Alf Wight who lived in Thirsk for more than fifty years.
The cottage is 50 yards away from the centre of Thirsk, all the local pubs, restaurants and bars are within walking distance.

The cottage is right in the middle of Boltby. A great place for spectacular walks/ cycles/ horse rides around the moors. The room has a very comfortable new double sofa-bed, desk, chair, TV, radiator. As the cottage and room are small and we live there too we feel it's best suited for 1 person. The view from rooms looks out to Boltby Scar. Power shower in bathroom, open fire and TV downstairs in shared space to enjoy.
We can recommend some great places to eat within 15 minutes drive (we can drop off/pick up if required). Breakfast is available and we can pick up/ drop off at a local train station/pub if need be.There are multiple footpaths in Boltby. The Cleaveland way is a short walk away. Boltby has pony trekking, village hall with pop-up café, church. There are a few pubs within an hours walk & a secluded walkers/cyclists/horse riders tearoom for tea, food, beer on Cleaveland Way. We have 2 cats. Other cats are welcome!
Very laid back and friendly little place.

Location is very central to a number of attractions in the North of England. Yarm looked beautiful, but we never really made it to the town center, except to drive through. It is near to the medieval city of York, Harrogate, Ripon and our county town Northallerton. Thirsk has a charm of its own, essentially unchanged and influenced by the world. It centres around a bustling cobbled market square, dominated by the town clock, with its Monday & Saturday markets and independent shopping. Visitors from all over the world are impressed by the warm and friendly welcome of the residents of this gem of a town. Visitors can enjoy a number of flat short walks through the town and along the river or may prefer to travel a little further afield to explore the small pretty villages with their sandstone cottages. More strenuous walking can be found on the Hambleton Hills and the moorland tracks such as The Drove Road. The Swale Way long distance path passes through Thirsk connecting Boroughbridge and Kirby Stephen. Thirsk holds the prestigious Walkers are Welcome accreditation. James Herriot, local vet and author, is Thirsk’s famous son. He wrote 'All Creatures Great and Small' and other stories about his life as a country vet. You can find all about him at ‘The World of James Herriot’, the award winning museum converted from his house and surgery. Thirsk has another famous son, Thomas Lord. The founder of Lord’s Cricket ground was born here in 1755 and his birthplace is now Thirsk Museum. Magna Carta in 1215 gave the Barons the power to seize the King's castles and property if he broke the agreed terms. Thirsk's William de Mowbray was one of the Barons appointed to ensure that King John kept his word. The picturesque country racecourse has excellent facilities and high quality flat racing throughout the summer. Thirsk offers something for the whole family and at any time of the year. You won’t be disappointed and we will be delighted to see you.

  • A wonderful stay close to Saltburn. The cottage was the perfect size, not too small so we were tripping over each other, but not too large that we were shouting. Angie is an exceptional host and was very hospitable. Highly recommended!

  • We found Angie's cottages to be a good base to travel to lots of different parts of Yorkshire. Parking is easy if like us there's more than one car in your party. The pub next door has lovely food and plenty of space.

My place is great for those wishing to get away and switch off in high spec accommodation all to yourself. A traditional English village with 3 great pubs, all serving food and a chippy. We are on the Lyke Wake walk and popular with cyclist and walkers. Cod Beck Reservoir is spectacular in all seasons and the coast is a short drive away. We have a sofa bed downstairs with extra bedding. We welcome well behaved dogs who will equally love the walks and dog friendly spaces in Osmotherley.
Hill Top Cottage is separated from the main house so you have absolute privacy and totally self contained. We have a key pad entrance and only a text message away should you need us. The local village is a short walk and has 3 friendly local pubs, newsagent and much history.
Peace, tranquility, breathless countryside, small village with a big personality. We are a small village where many people have lived for decades and always welcoming of new people so you will feel welcomed.
  • A lovely little place on the outskirts of the village. Good location for walks down to the reservoir and other areas. Lovely pubs to go to for food and drinks in the village too. There were lots of little quirky bits that Priya included in the cottage to make it homely and the bed and linen was super comfy! We didn't want to get up! Everything you need to cook and all home comforts included.

  • A home from home. Very comfortable, especially the bed and an amazing shower. Very friendly hosts indeed who were happy to chat or respect our privacy. Thankyou so much. We loved Osmotherley and we walked Jonty off his little paws! Helen and Karl (Mr.Osmotherly).

  • Thankyou for our stay, beautiful little home and perfect to find somewhere beautiful where you can take your dog (usually end up with poor accommodation when you bring a pet!) the place was spotless, the village was fantastic to walk around. Thankyou for leaving maps of walking ideas we had a lovely walk (twice!) around the reservoir! Thankyou x

    Hannah2016-11-27T00:00:00Z

Contemporary living in a delightfully modernised cottage in Carlton in Cleveland, a beautiful quiet village in the North Yorks Moors National Park. There is a great pub serving very good food and a variety of real ales, only a two minute walk away
This space is the ground floor area of our Annexe with a bedroom, kitchen/diner and shower room/toilet. Lovely and warm with very effective and controllable central heating. The annexe was originally built in about 1750 but is fully fitted to a contemporary and modern standard.
This is a beautiful park of North Yorkshire, in the North York Moors National Park and also in a Conservation area. Nearby is The Blackwell Ox pub that is a great local pub serving great food and real ales. At the top of Carlton Bank is the Lord Stones Country Park where they serve great steaks in The Belted Bull. A fantastic location for walking, cycling or just as a base to tour the Moors or pop down to the coast - Whitby is only a 40 minute drive. York is about an hour away as well as Leeds and Newcastle.
  • We had a wonderful weekend stay at John and Amanda's cottage in Swainby. Everything we needed and the village was lovely with plenty of good walking from the front door. John was particularly helpful in allowing us to stay in the cottage when our original property selection was unavailable.

    Gordon 2016-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed for New Year's Eve and wish we had booked for a longer stay. Loved the feeling of the property, especially the stone floors in the kitchen and bathroom and the clean lines of the bedroom. John and Amanda were the most friendly hosts we could ask for and very accommodating. Felt just like home

    Jessica2016-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Both John and Amanda were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home, the property is just lovely and came kitted out with everything you would expect and so much more! Amanda even made some lovely shortbread for our arrival which was delicious! The property is lovely and like a home away from home, I will be reccomending to friends and family and will hope to be back in the future.

A normal reaction on entering this room is WOW. Lie in bed & enjoy panoramic views of Boltby & the countryside beyond. Large luxurious room - kitchenette, ensuite, sitting, eating area & balcony. No hidden extra prices when 2 share Full a la carte breakfast included with fresh Yorkshire produce where possible. On the edge of N Yorks Moors National Park. Circular walks from the house mapped out for you. Central location. Studio available for self catering - (listed separately).
Willow Tree Cottage is uniquely situated with wonderful panoramic views. We are about 5 miles from Thirsk in a small village. it is a peaceful place. Wow is a normal reaction when entering the room. It is a large room. The kitchenette in the B&B room makes this room ideal for visitors wishing to prepare your own meals there. Also the breakfasts are delicious. Towels, sheets etc are provided. The B&B room has a double bed and a single bed can be added in the same room. A second child can be accommodated on a Zed bed. If you want to be more independent and have your own separate space away from the main house do have a look at the Studio above the garage - listed separately.
I love the peacefulness, the views, the walking. It gives easy access to a wide area from the North Yorks Moors, the Dales, the coast and to York and all the sights. We are a short distance away from Thirsk and Helmsley. There are many Abbeys, country houses and other things to explore in the area I get a lot of people coming back which is my best recommendation. The area has recently been featured on the Channel 5 program "the Yorkshire Vet". The area is "Herriot country". James Herriot's surgery was in Thirsk and the area was featured in his books and television programs "All creatures great and small."
  • Wow! What an amazing view! The room is amazing, perched up the top of a hill it overlooks beautiful Yorkshire. Dianna and her family were very welcoming and the room was perfect for three! The breakfast was very funny and perfectly prepared! I wish I could have tasted all the homemade conserves but I was too full and there were too many! Thank you for such an enjoyable stay :)

  • Bed & Breakfast accommodation does not get better than this fantastic room with a view. Just as described but oh so much better. Breakfast served in the room (yes there is room for a dining table!) with the view and the birdsong..Bliss. Don't hesitate to enjoy this lovely part of Yorkshire....but watch out for Boltby Bank! Its steeper in parts than Sutton Bank.

  • It is the second time that I stayed at Diana's B&B. As it was like the first time, we had a pleasant one night stay. Every thing is perfect as expected. Diana offered us tea when we arrived which is very welcoming and she made the finest breakfast in England with various choice. She also gave us a ride when we leave. By the way the animals in the cottage are cute :) Hope to comeback with other friends someday.

    Joe2016-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful view in very quiet village. Well equipped and a wonderful breakfast.

    Guy2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Superb B&B...made to feel welcome from the moment of our arrival. A pot of tea arriving within minutes to help us settle in to the chairs to take in and absorb the spectacular view. We of course obliged with the inevitable 'wow' when we saw the room & view, both equally magnificent. Our 7 year old son loved the rural aspect immediately & soon ensconced himself. He slept soundly in the third bed. The room was large with a great en-suite bathroom and the kitchenette was a bonus. Breakfast was excellent too. We loved it so much we will definitely return.

    Lynne2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • A thoroughly enjoyable stay, Diana was very welcoming and kindly flexible with arrival times to suit our plans. The room is spacious and airy with an incredible view. This room provides an ideal base for exploring the North York Moors and is a really peaceful retreat. Breakfast was included and great with a really comprehensive selection of home made preserves being an unexpected treat. (As was the home made cake on arrival) Would definitely recommend to any couple who want a taste of Yorkshire.

My beautiful 5 bedroom house is situated in a village in North Yorkshire. It is a modern family home and there is plenty of space to wind down. The location is perfect for walking and seeing the beautiful scenery, and local towns are only a 10 minute drive away, so you get the best of both!
My house is a beautiful old cottage but it is very big inside! It has 5 double bedrooms, three living areas and a kitchen. I also have my own small bar if you'd like a drink!
My neighbours are lovely friendly people and where I live is very safe.
  • Good value stay in an area of much more expensive alternatives. Room was basic but very clean. Salma gave us a very friendly welcome and let us store our muddy bikes in her spare room. We were even offered evening meals for a small price. Unfortunately we had already booked a table at the Falcon Inn, so make sure to ask in advance, as we felt we missed out on a belting curry. Just to note. This is a smokers house which I don't think was in the advert. Thanks again for letting us share your home Salma. Jon and Helena X

  • Salma was a great host - very welcoming and hospitable. The facilties were good, there was somewhere secure for my bike and my very early leaving was no problem. The very attractive village of Stokesley is just down the road with its comprehensive range of shops.

The East Wing is a charming country cottage which is attached to our family farmhouse, The Grange. The cottage is situated in the hamlet of Balk which sits in the foothills of the North York Moors and enjoys views of Sutton Bank and surrounding countryside. The Grange is a family farm run by my husband and I. The cottage has 2 double bedrooms and a sofa bed so will sleep 4 adults and 1 child. There are 2 gardens and an outbuilding for storage.
The farm is situated in the foothills of Sutton Bank. The East Wing is surrounded by open fields and beautiful scenery. You are a short drive away from the historic market town of Thirsk and very accessible for York, Leeds and Harrogate. There is a train station in Thirsk which connects you to the local towns and cities.

  • So much more than we expected! Spacious, clean, cosy and in a great location to explore all that North Yorkshire has to offer. Quiet and surrounded by fields and nature. On arrival, Laura was very friendly and asked us to contact her if we ran out of anything or had any questions. Kitchen and bathroom stocked with all essentials as well as a few generous extras in the kitchen (eggs from their chickens and a loaf of bread)! We loved staying there for 4 nights and would absolutely recommend it to anyone else. We're already thinking about going back and the kids were sad to leave!

  • Spent a wonderful week at East Wing Cottage and could not praise it enough. The accommodation was perfect with everything you could ask for. The rooms were beautifully furnished and the kitchen was very well equipped with thoughtful extra touches such as bread, milk, butter, eggs and a bottle of wine! Laura's welcome made us feel special and it was lovely to meet her family. The daily visit to the garden by the hens was an added interest! The cottage is situated in a beautiful part of the country with easy access to so many interesting places. I would recommend a stay at this cottage to anyone who enjoys the peace and quite of the countryside along with first class accommodation.

    Margaret2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • The image shows the front of the property, but the home/flat is a generously sized rear half of the house/extension. Beautifully presented living space in which all four of us felt immediately welcome and comfortable. Family meals and games at the table, with plenty of storage for our belongings and a well stocked Kitchen with every utensil and items you need. The location is excellent - with day trips to Scarborough, York and Harrogate all easily managed (even with children with short attention spans). The hosts made us feel extremely comfortable and I really could not recommend the experience more highly.

    William2016-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, spacious and calm place, which was perfect for us. A great base to explore from. Laura was very helpful and a fantastic host. There were fresh eggs, bread and a chilled bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely choose to stay here again.

  • Laura's cottage was an absolute delight. Very spacious, bright and cozy. Large, well equipped kitchen, dining room, living room and large bath with both shower and huge tub. It was very comfortable indeed. It was beautifully situated to see all the sights from abbeys, to gardens to great houses, Castle Howard, Fountains Abbey and the Yorkshire coast. A ten minute drive took us into Thirsk for good shopping and the train to York, just a 15 minute trip. Laura was the consummate host and our every need was met. We do not hesitate to recommend a stay here and we will be returning ourselves as soon as the opportunity comes along.

    Joann2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely place. Clean and with everything needed and stylish too. Very friendly hosts who couldn't be more helpful. Children loved it and they got a hands-on farm experience from the hosts which was very gratefully received! The house is in a hamlet but less than 10 minutes to Thirsk which suited us perfectly. Would very much recommend this place to anyone.

Cosy cottage located in the North York Moors National Park with gorgeous big skies! A super base for exploring castles, abbeys, wonderful villages and the Heritage coast. Spoilt for choice in eateries from great local pubs to Michelin starred restaurants all with a 10 mile radius. Many guests comment on how peaceful and calm their stay has been. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with children), and furry friends (pets).
  • An amazing place in a great location with beautiful views of North Yorkshire

  • A wonderful stay in a great apartment like cottage on the beautiful Sutton bank. Sutton bank is a little bit windy and cold but the views are spectacular and access to the Yorkshire moor is easy. We especially advise to drive to Whitby via the Blakey road through Hutton-le-Hole. Helmsley being close by is a really nice little town. Whitby and Yok over crowded in the summer, Robin Hood’s bay was much more fun.
