  • Fabulous location for exploring the Forest of Dean. Cottage was ideal - a real gem in the middle of other residences. Alex was a great host with just the right amount of interaction and checking all was well, and good tips on where to go and what to do. Within walking distance to the local town and a nice restaurant just down the road. My dogs were more than welcomed with special treats for them too. Thanks Alex. Highly recommend to others.

  • What a great place! Perfect for our family of 5 and Alex accommodated us all comfortably with little extra treats for the kids. Great location for nearby attractions Perrygrove railway and Puzzlewood. Many thanks again!

  • Lovely place. Very well located to get to everything really quickly. My boys loved Puzzlewood, the Caves and Perrygrove. Walked into Coleford easily. Lovely little cinema within walking distance too. Lots of restaurants and pubs locally for food. Great hints and tips too.

  • It was great experience staying in the cottage. Alex is really nice and have offered us great information of what to do and see nearby. The cottage is lovely and we really like it. The whole experience was great and especially the shower, it is fantastic. ( I regretted the moment I saw the cottage because I just booked one day.) It is just a perfect staying and I really hope that I would have the chance to go back once again.

  • Alex's cottage is beautiful and very cosy. It has everything you could need for a quiet getaway. Symonds Yat viewpoint is a 10 minute drive and worth the visit - amazing views! There are also lots of scenic walks to do in the area. Alex was very accommodating and always quick to respond to our messages. He provided lots of teas and coffee etc, which was a lovely touch! We would love to visit again in the future. Thanks Alex!

  • Central to shops and restaurants. Easy to get to attractions in Forest of Dean. The house was perfect, clean, everything you need. Would recommend. Only downside is parking outside cottage. Could be a problem if no spaces, but we managed ok.

Underdean Lodge is a lovingly restored 2 double bedroom Georgian lodge on the edge of the Forest of Dean and is the perfect base for exploring both the Forest and the Wye Valley. The lodge includes beautiful period features and a wood burning stove. Dogs welcome. Footpaths lead to the Forest from the front door. We are ideally located adjacent to the A48 for convenient access to Gloucester, Monmouth and Chepstow which are all about 25 minutes away.
We have restored this Grade 2 listed Georgian gate house sympathetically but with all the modern touches one requires for a comfortable stay away from home. The lodge is warm and cosy and despite its proximity to the road, is extremely quiet, thanks to high quality secondary and double glazing throughout. The house is decorated throughout with prints and photos of the surrounding area and we have a large map in the kitchen to help you plan your days out and country walks.
Breathtaking views of the River Severn are accessible just a few minutes walk from the Lodge and for those who want to go further, Forest walks are a 15 minute walk away down a pretty country lane. The Lodge is the ideal base from which to explore the Forest with multiple walks and amenities within the Forest, such as GO APE!, just a 10 minute drive away. The Cock Inn in Blakeney is a superb friendly local with a welcoming fire, lovely beer garden and terrific food as well. Blakeney is also served by a nice Italian restaurant, Dolce Vita, and a decent Fish & Chip Shop. Newnham is also only a couple of miles away. This, again, offers a range of pubs, a great cafe and some lovely shops in which to browse. There is also an excellent local butcher (open on Fridays and Saturdays). Lydney (10 minutes drive away) has a Tesco and Co-op and all the shops and services you'd expect from a mid sized town.
  • Nice cottage, great location for getting around the Forest of Dean. Would thoroughly recommend for a couple (or two) or a small family.

    Mark2018-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the lodge for my friends 30th birthday. The house was a snug but comfortable fit for the 4 of us, plus 2 dogs. We really enjoyed the walk from the lodge to one of the local pubs which was a great dog walking distance of about 7.5 miles in total with some lovely views. Desire the proximity to the road the lodge was very peaceful. A lovely little winter retreat :)

    Rebecca2018-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A very beautifully renovated cottage which was warm, cosy and offered us home from home comfort. Totally recommend.

    Pippa2017-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a charming little cottage where we (4 adults) enjoyed the comfortable sitting room around a blazing wood-fired stove. There a splendid walk direct from the cottage, up into the Forest of Dean and down towards the River Severn. The kitchen is small so best for one person to cook, within easy chatting distance of friends with G&T. The main A48 road is close and quite noisy in the day but no problem at night with good double glazing.

    Jonathan2018-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully restored space. Very comfy bed!

    Max2018-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing little place, cosy and charming. We had a great two night stay. Loved the fire and walks too. Highly recommended. Hope to be back soon

    Tanja2017-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is very sweet lodge, small but enough space for 4 adults. It’s been renovated to a excellent standard and is cosy and comfortable. It is close to the main road, but was ok as our dog is well behaved. You can hear the traffic but it is quiet due to the extra glazing. Graced with some gorgeous weather, we had a lovely weekend. Beth and Christopher were very quick to respond to any queries and were very accommodating. P.s the board games and dvds are a nice touch.

    Kelly2018-02-25T00:00:00Z

  • Fantastic place to spend two days. Location and hot tub made it a relaxing winter retreat. We plan to come back to try out the summer here!

    Joe2018-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Tallet cottage was a stunning and cosy place, the host’s where very helpful and quick to respond, wish we could have stayed longer, And the jacuzzi made the weekend.

    Daniel2018-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful area with an amazing view especially if you have pets. Hot tub was brilliant to relax in and great hospitality.

    Gabrielle2018-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place. Clean, comfortable, cosy and such a fantastic view! The Jacuzzi is amazing! Tony was very helpful and the place is kitted out with every guidebook and brochure you could imagine so easy to find things to do. We tried "Uncle Tony's" in town, but would probably go for the Cock Inn next time - came highly recommended by the visitors book! Will definitely be booking again!

    Phil2018-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • You'll love this cottage, the jacuzzi, and the beautiful view. Book for a romantic getaway. Also just a 10 minute walk to a couple of restaurants and a local convenience store.

    Jessica2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Tony's place was perfect for what we were looking for. It's a cute little cottage, with character but with a slight modern feel. The views from it are beautiful! The hot tub area is really nice- looks even better than the photos (in fact the whole place does!). It's easy to get to after just putting in the sat nav. We spent time in the cottage and then out and about on walks and visiting pubs! You can walk to some of the walking areas but we drove there- was very easy. We would recommend Tony's place!

    Kim2017-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little place with everything you need. The Tallet was toasty warm when we gt there and the hot tub was a perfect way to end a chilly day, then we watched the beautiful winter sun rise from the terrace it was a wonderful weekend.

    Mia2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for 2 nights and wish we could have stayed longer!! Tony and Doreen are the perfect hosts. They have loads of info and are always happy to help but they don’t bother you at all while you are there unless you ask for them. The area is beautiful, we went for a long walk in the forest and admired the view from the hills. The hot tub is the icing on the cake, at night it’s especially great with all the fairy lights. We can’t wait to return!

  • Jenny's beautiful cottage was everything we wanted and more. Secluded, simple yet stylish and so very welcoming. From the moment we booked Jenny kept us well informed, and whilst myself and my partner kept mostly to ourselves, we felt we could have gone to her at any point for a friendly tip or a helping hand. This restful break in the wonderful countryside was exactly what we needed. Never too far away from a shop or a pub, but tucked away enough to forget the rest of the world for a little while. Would definitely stay again!

    Alexa2018-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for exploring the Forest of Dean. Amazing little cottage in a private setting with everything you need (top shelf, :) ) for a short stay. If you want to forget the world, take a deep breath, refocus, pat a sheep or three, this is the spot! The birds come to you, the sky is biiiiiig and the hospitality is as genuine as a local ale or pastry. Will we back? It is a given. Thank you so much!

    Karolina2018-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, well presented house. Ideally located to explore the area. We were made to feel very welcome

    Phil2018-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Puzzle Tree Cottage provides a lovely base for exploring the Forest of Dean and we couldn't have been happier with our stay. Jenny is the perfect host, with lots of thoughtful touches in the cottage as well. The surroundings are beautiful and we came away rejuvenated. I already want to go back!

    Anna2018-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful place to stay. The cottage is well kitted out, tastefully furnished with all that you'd need and is in a peaceful setting surrounded by birds, trees and five friendly sheep. It's lovely and warm and very clean. Jenny is lovely. Excellent communication before we arrived and very welcoming and kind during our stay. The booking was a surprise for my partner's birthday and Jenny left a lovely note and bottle of fizz for the occasion. Much appreciated! We'd definitely stay again. Thank you Jenny x

    Sophia2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Jenny, we had a lovely time over our few days break. The beautiful cottage was so clean and fresh, and very cosy (lovely fur throws, cushions and rugs added a cosy feel). Jenny left supplies on our arrival, tea, coffee, cakes, fresh milk in fridge. The breathtaking surroundings were amazing, particularly when we woke up one morning to a light dusting of snow which really was the icing on the cake! It was stunning. We were able to have a walk on the grounds where there were lovely views. This is a real find and so glad we chanced it when there were no reviews to check it out, it looked nice and away from it all and we were not disappointed. The places to eat that Jenny recommended, the Butchers Arms, was exceptional, the food was fantastic. A visit to Tinturn abbey is a must. The nights were quiet and peaceful and the bed comfortable, we had great nights sleep. We enjoyed waking up and watching the birds out of the window on the bird feeder and the squirrel hanging on to it! We felt fully rested by the time we came home. We will definitely stay at Jenny's when we return to Monmouth again. Everything in the cottage catered for our needs and Jenny was available if we needed. Jenny and Jemima have paid careful attention to detail. Highly recommended.

    Tracy2018-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Puzzle Tree Cottage was a very pretty little place, with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The host Jenny was wonderful, very helpful & friendly, she made us feel very welcome. They live in another lovely old building next to the cottage, so it’s easy to ask for any advice or assistance, but it still feels private & peaceful without being completely isolated which we liked. The cottage is well kitted out with everything you need & it’s all very tastefully decorated too, it has a lovely cozy feel to it. It was also very clean inside. There’s a good selection of pubs nearby, we went to The Ostrich Inn which had a good selection of beers & reasonably priced wines, it was very cozy with a big open fire. We brought our bikes and were very pleased with the secure lockup. It’s a great area for riding, it’s near the Forest of Dean trail centre, which has a good blue & red trail and some fun downhill too. We also hiked locally & were delighted with the stunning views & beautiful forests. A wonderful stay, we’ll definitely be visiting again :-)

    Louise2018-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Puzzle Tree Cottage was a wonderful experience- we had everything we could need and beautiful scenery around us. Jenny was so thoughtful and provided us with plenty of local info and a wonderfully comfortable and cozy getaway cottage! Loved it and would definitely stay again.

Stunning views across the Wye Valley, a wood burner, oak-framed open-plan living and a warm welcome await you at the Donkey Shed.
The main living space is double height with kitchen, sitting and dining all enjoying the spectacular view. The burner will warm you if it is chilly out and we'll make sure you are well stocked with logs throughout your stay. We also provide a couple of bottles of excellent ale from our favourite local brewery on your arrival. Upstairs on a mezzanine is a king bed and rocking chair warmed by the wood burner flue. Downstairs is a cosy bunk room with shelves stacked with decent novels. The bathroom is across the hall. With separate shower and enormous bath tub wrapped in marble, we also provide Honey Bee Beautiful organic soap and bubble bath foam, both made locally. Outside there are seating areas all with fantastic views - there's a sunny corner to read the morning paper, a picnic table amongst the wildflowers and a bench with a buzzard's eye view of the river, all within 30 minutes of the M4/M5 interchange.
Step out of the door and onto the Wye Valley Walk. Explore ancient woodlands, carpets of bluebells, wildflower meadows, autumn leaves and frosty winter mornings. Head down to the river to join Offa's Dyke. Head up to Beacon View and take in the Brecon Beacons. Monmouthshire has some great pubs and Michelin starred restaurants. The Whitebrook Restaurant is 10 minutes by car (or a lovely walk), the Inn at Penallt, Walnut Tree, Hardwick Arms, Bell at Skenfrith and Kingstone Brewery are all within reach. Well situated for Abergavenny Food Festival, Green Man and Hay-on-Wye Literary Festival. Visit Tintern Abbey or explore the castles of the Welsh Marches. Also a great spot for taking in Monmouthshire's beautiful and inspiring open gardens. The Black Mountains are 35 minutes away, the Brecon Beacons are 1 hour. Please ask for some of our favourite routes - walking or mountain biking. Canoe the River Wye - there are several canoe hire outlets in Monmouth who also provide guiding. One of the last slips just before the river turns tidal is below your window. Local fishing is also very good, please see the wyeuskfoundation for further details. Road cycling - including the alpine Lydart ascent from Monmouth is nearby. Mountain Biking - home of Dirt magazine, ask Hugh about local singletrack and some of his favourite routes. We provide a clean up station to wash the mud off if you need it. Visit the local rare breeds smallholding, Humble by Nature and take a course in rural skills. Go Ape in the Forest of Dean or get lost in Puzzlewood, climb Symonds Yat Rock and get back to nature with Forest Bushcraft.
  • The Donkey Shed is an amazing retreat and little piece of paradise. The local area is awash with adventure, wildlife and great pubs n grub. Great for kids, exploring and activities such as walking, biking and kayaking but also wonderful simply to chill. We’ve loved our home from home, the stunning view, the personal touches and Hugh & Catherine’s warm hospitality. We will be back!

    Natalie2018-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • The Donkey Shed is the perfect retreat, a place to relax and enjoy all the comforts that Catherine and Hugh have provided. The accommodation is immaculate and stylish. This really is self catering at its best - snuggle down on the sofa with a book from the selection on the shelf, watch a DVD or just soak up the view from the huge window that frames the valley below. Woodland walks start from the door and you can soak your weary limbs in the deepest bath ever and then sleep blissfully on the super comfy bed. Communications from Catherine always prompt and friendly - thoroughly recommended! We can't wait to get back :-)

    Anna2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine & Hugh provided the most perfect experience from booking to checking out of the Donkey Shed! They were always quick to reply to messages, sent out reply helpful info & were on hand during our stay if we ever needed them. The directions to reach them are really detailed & so useful otherwise we certainly would have got lost! The Donkey Shed is an absolute dream if you are looking for a secluded, peaceful break away. It is located in the middle of nowhere & is completely silent & serene. The views through the floor to ceiling windows are beautiful, showcasing the River Wye, rolling green fields & plenty of wildlife (even whilst lying in bed)! Everything was perfect but the log fire & huge bath both deserve special mentions as they were the icing on the cake. The shed is SO clean & exactly as pictured. Complimentary shortbread cookies, bottles of ale & locally made bath products were all a beautiful touch & made us feel very welcome! We did plenty of walking (the shed is located right on the Wye Valley Walk) & there is lots of local pubs to enjoy. We would highly recommend staying at the Donkey Shed & are already looking forward to visiting again one day :)

  • The Donkey Shed is a really special find in a magical location. It’s stylish, spotlessly clean and delivers a boutique hotel feel in a remote and special place. Hosts were very helpful and friendly - lots of lovely nice touches. I can’t recommend a stay here enough! We didn’t want to leave!

    Nicky2018-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • The Donkey Shed offered us exactly what we were looking for. The space is gorgeous, cosy and cleverly designed. The log fire kept us warm throughout our stay, the kitchen is stocked with a wide variety of utensils which is great for those who are in to cooking. The bathroom is clean and modern. We loved being so close to nature trails and the river - breathtaking view from the living room!

    Alice2017-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine and Hugh are both wonderful hosts! Catherine was very prompt with any queries I had via email, both before and during our stay. We had everything we needed and the attention to detail was fantastic. Donkey shed and it's surroundings are just beautiful ! The view is outstanding! We particularly loved the log fire, comfy sofas and the AMAZING bathroom! A prefect place to stay for the start of our honeymoon. Thank you Hugh and Catherine x

    Jenna2016-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • We could not have had a more perfect stay at the donkey shed. On arrival, we were greeted with a roaring fire, local ales and delicious biscuits. The accommodation was spotless and luxurious - we especially enjoyed the deep bath and organic toiletries provided. We managed to tear ourselves away from the stunning views to go for a great walk and visit one of the local pubs which was well situated by the river. Overall, a perfect getaway, we would definitely recommend it and are keen to visit again! Thank you for making us so welcome.

  • This is a lovely location overlooking the Wye Valley. Its nice and quiet, stunning views, the perfect place to get away from it all, whilst being close to all sorts of activities, great locations and if you need it, urban centres. The Donkey Shed was perfect for our young family of four and the hosts welcoming. Thumbs up!

The Forest of Dean is a beautiful woodland with endless activities. A Mecca for cyclists, bring your own bikes or hire from local shops. The cottage is next to the RSPB Nature Reserve, and there is direct access from the cottage onto the cycle path into the Forest of Dean. Wild boar and sheep roam the streets.
  • The cottage was everything that I expected it to be - clean, cosy and well located next to a really great pub and easy walks in the forest. Debbie communicated really well throughout. A great stay.

  • Great property and great location for easy access to the forest of Dean.

    Kevin2017-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, quaint cottage with all amenities required for a pleasant stay. Great communication by Debbie pre-arrival. And was lovely to find a few basics awaiting us (milk, condiments, teabags, sugar - and even real coffee!). Word of warning though: bring your thermals if you're the one sleeping in the sofa bed! Upstairs bedrooms were warm enough but downstairs was cold.

  • The cottage was just as lovely as in the pictures - we couldn't have asked for a more welcoming place!

    Ioana2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Perfectly situated for cycling in the forest and for walks in the area.

    Scott2017-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for just 3 nights for a family event but would have gladly stayed for longer as the cottage is very well situated for visiting the Foest of Dean. The path from the door goes directly to cycling/walking tracks, there is a Dean Forest railway station in the village, a shop, two cafes, bike hire and two pubs for meals. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen, good size bathroom lovely fluffy towels and a pleasant place to eat outside. We did not meat our hosts but communication and arrangements for check in were excellent and we enjoyed our stay here.

    Janet2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Nagshead Cottage with our two bus aged 5 and 2. The cottage was very well equipped and has lovely comfy beds. The family cycle trail is just a stone's throw away so it was perfect to explore the forest. Thanks Debbie for your hospitality and for the pint of milk and travel cot

  • We loved our stay with Michelle. The cottage is perfectly situated for walking in the Forest of Dean and equally handy for the village shop (5 min walk) and two great pubs that do excellent food. We ate in the Miners Arms another 20 mins away which was quite lively and good fun - excellent food too. Michelle's place was so inviting and comfortable. We had a great night's sleep both nights and felt very rested. The kitchen was very well equipped and we'd love to stay again.

    Jo2017-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect place for a relaxing, peaceful getaway. The apartment is spacious but cosy, very nicely decorated, and well equipped and furnished. It's a lot bigger than we thought too. It's close to the family cycle trail, and other forest attractions (such as Cannop Ponds or Mallards Pike Lake). There's a couple of pubs within a few minutes walk through the village which do good food. Michelle was a lovely, friendly host who made us feel most welcome and gave us everything we needed. Would recommend to anyone looking to escape the city bustle!

  • Myself partner and two dogs had a lovely stay in the cottage. It was clean and welcoming when we arrived. We loved the area it was situated in and had some lovely walks with stunning views. Enjoyed a nice pub meal at the Ostrich Inn and there are close shops to get a few bits from. Carol was very friendly and happy to give advice on where to go etc. Thank you for a lovely stay, we would come again.

    Jane2018-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay at this quiet cottage. Everything is here that you need, the cottage is qiaint but comfortable and the host presents it very well. Carol was available for good local tips to guide you through your stay. The countryside is beautiful and the walks very relaxing. Would definitely come back.

    Marc2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely break in a gorgeous cottage in the Wye Valley, an area we have never explored before and perfect as a post GCSE/A-level treat. Carol and Tony couldn't have been more welcoming and gave us numerous tips as to what to do during our short stay. I would thoroughly recommend the Saracens in Symonds Yat for dinner and Wyedean Canoes for a paddle on the river. Look forward to spending more time in the Wye. Fabulous. Thank you Carol and Tony

    Sandra2018-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • If the cottage is available for the dates you are looking at, I'd highly recommend you book it as it's such a lovely place. We had a family weekend away here to celebrate my daughter's 16th Birthday and Carol made her a fabulous home baked birthday cake with happy birthday candles which was there for our arrival, which was a lovely surprise. I didn't get to meet Carol but she was always on hand to respond quickly to messages and has lots of advice for where to visit in the area and there is a lot to do. Unfortunately Puzzle Wood was closed for filming of the Secret Garden when we tried to visit, so we went to visit Beechenhurst Lodge in the Forest of Dean and really enjoyed the trails there. There are lots of lovely touches in the cottage, such as collections of newspapers with the puzzle section to do, towels for muddy paws if you are going with your dog. The cottage is so homely with lovely furnishings and art work and high quality bedding and towels. We had regular visits from Meg the cat, who made us feel very welcome and at home in the cottage and is quite a character. Thanks Carol hope to meet you on our next visit.

    Kerry2018-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. The Forest of Dean provided a wide range of activities and places of interest.

Hannah's Hideaway is a self-contained small holiday home with everything you need for a great time all year round. It's in the hamlet of Gorsty Knoll, close to Coleford and right on the edge of the fabulous Forest of Dean. Newly renovated with underfloor heating, it has its own private entrance and courtyard, perfect for couples or single people with furry friends.
As you can see from the photos, the Hideaway is the ground floor of an old barn, which is attached to the house. However it is private, you have your own entrance through a courtyard which is all yours. It is open plan living with a separate shower room, and is very light and airy. It is brand new, and has been renovated to a high standard with a woodburner and underfloor heating. You can cook a Sunday roast, take a luxury shower, light a fire inside or cook on the chinimea outside, and relax under a quality feather duvet.... there is an outside tap to rinse your dog or boots, and a shelter in the courtyard in case of rain... perfect for watching the sunset ... In the room there is a double bed, two comfy chairs, and a table with chairs. Open but comfortable living. The kitchen is well supplied and there is wifi and a 32” television with Sky TV. You can store bikes or canoes in a garage. The fantastic location means you can walk to Coleford in 15 mins (a lovely town with a cinema, butchers, bakers, pubs and shops) and because the house literally backs on to the forest, you have the countryside on your door step. Close to popular hotspots such as Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves and the cycle centre at Cannop. There are a couple of pubs and shops within easy walking distance. The Hideaway has a lovely feel about it, you can be private without being isolated. It enjoys the afternoon and evening sun and is not obviously overlooked by the house. There is backgammon, scrabble, dominoes, playing cards and a tumbling tower (cheap version of Jenga!) I supply salt, pepper and oil and a small amount of tea, coffee, sugar and milk to tide you over. There is also foil, cling film, washing up liquid, dish cloths and drying up cloths. And a loo roll! woo woo!
  • We had a great stay at Hannah’s Hideaway! Hannah was extremely welcoming and helpful! She gave us plenty of local knowledge so we could take our dog on great walks. The accommodation was very well equipped and was a lot bigger than expected! Thanks for a great stay!

    Chloe2018-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. It is in a brilliant location (we were staying for a wedding nearby). It is very private and excellently decorated. Hannah is an excellent host, offering to bring in a full length mirror (as we were getting ready for a wedding), providing fresh milk and even contacting me about something I had left behind! We would thoroughly recommend staying here.

    Tammy2018-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy little hideaway, just as Hannah described it in, for us, an unknown area close to the Wye Valley, which is very beautiful.

    Samuel2018-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Hannah was friendly and welcoming and instantly put us at ease. The flat is a really lovely base from which to explore the Forest of Dean, neat and tidy and just right for two. We will definitely be coming back soon.

  • Hannah is the most lovely host, so helpful and accommodating. The house was just beautiful and there was so many places to visit near by. Everything we needed was there, which meant we were able to fully relax. I also brought my dog and she was happy as Larry for the little get away ❤️

    Ellie2018-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little hideaway only 7 miles from Monmouth and within walking distance of Coleford. Wonderful base for exploring the Forest of Dean. Hannah is a wonderful host and gave us lots of handy tips. The accommodation itself is lovely. Newly decorated with excellent facilities. Everything you need is provided and lots of nice personal touches too. Highly recommended.

    Michael2018-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend this Airbnb to anyone looking for a little hideaway to call their own, near the beautiful Forest of Dean. Upon arrival (always the scariest bit of turning up to any Airbnb) Hannah came out to greet us and we both instantly felt very welcome! She let us in and showed us around the newly-built modern yet amazingly quirky and homey space we'd be staying in. She has thought of everything, there's tones of literature and leaflets all put together by her describing near-by places to eat at and visit for all budgets and needs, there's also board games, Sky TV and so much more. After running us though how everything worked (Including the underfloor heating and the wood fire) she handed over the keys and made it clear on how to contact her if we needed anything at all and let us settle in for the night. There's lots to do around this beautiful area of wales I wish we could of stayed for longer! Would definitely come again if we ever get the chance to, my advice for anyone looking for a place to stay around this area, this is the one just go for it, you will not regret it at all :)

    Louise2018-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely studio with everything you need for a self catered stay. My wife to be and new pup stayed here for 2 nights. Hannah welcomed us and showed us around, and gave us some local tips about walks. Couldn't have asked for more and couldn't recommend higher.

  • What a fantastic place. Wow that we could bring our dogs. Walks within a few seconds, open the gate and off you go so no car needed. A dog box is given with towels, bags, accident sprays, water tray. Plus for all the muddy walks an attached hose for washing them down. The place was tastfully done and does feel very homely. FANTstic heating which warms the rooms up very quickly. we loved the place and the dogs did too. If you do not have dogs no worries the place is spotless.

    Debbie2017-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for peace and tranquility, then look no further. This is the place to go. Very smartly furnished, warm and very clean. The kitchen is fully equipped to last detail. As the cottage is away in the country, mobile phone signal is intermittent but with good wi fi on site, one can remain connected. Elaine has been very helpful and a great host. We have already recommended the place to family and friends and will definitely return for another break.

    Imad2017-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location to relax having the dog with us, with forest trails starting at the premises. Elaine was very helpful and you can see she runs the site to a high standard.

Soaring century-old beams, rustic stable features and light open spaces will make you fall head over heals in love with The Stables. With a private patio and large windows that look past the River Severn to the rolling Cotswolds, this is YOUR escape.
The Stables is a one bedroom barn conversion, that many years ago used to be (you guessed it!) the old Stables here at Daniels Farm. The original owner of the stables, Harry, had a particular sense of humour. He named the two horses kept here, Tom and Dick. This obviously led to him becoming the talk of the town! After being lovingly converted in 2005, I'm afraid that these days there's no hay in sight. You enter through an old fashioned 'boot room', with utility facilities and a downstairs bathroom. This opens out into a large country kitchen with a dining area. Straight ahead is your private patio, and to the right you can walk straight through to the separate living area. Fitted with a sofa bed, as well as an additional sofa, the old oak beams and old stable features transport you back in time. Moving upstairs into the bedroom, you should know that we can make it up as two Single beds or as one Super King. There is also an ensuite for your comfort. Most importantly, you can lie in bed and look across the countryside to the River Severn. (TIP: For an even better view in the morning make sure to convince your holiday partner to cook you breakfast and bring it to you in bed!)
We are located 1 mile from the village of Blakeney, 3 miles from Newnham and 6 miles from the local town of Lydney. Blakeney is perfect for a quick trip, with a local shop, post office and an award winning Fish & Chip shop. However, we always recommend Newnham to our guests. Its quaint and colourful High street features a butchers, hairdresser's, gift shop and many other local business'. It can make a great morning out when teamed with a stroll along the banks of the Severn or watching the phenomenal Severn bore. Lydney has two supermarkets as well as many banks and high street stores. And the Forest! The Stables should be less than 30 minute's drive to even the furthest of your favourite Forest attractions. If you don't have a favourite yet, just ask, we have heaps of recommendations to get you started!
  • I had a wonderful experience at the stables! So thoughtfully put together, and spotlessly clean. Yvonne is very welcoming and communicative! Highly recommend!!

  • Right from the time we arrived we couldn't have had a better stay. The space that you get for the price of rental is amazing. The views down to the River Severn were gorgeous and the whole place was sparkling clean. I could have sat in the window alcove on the top floor reading my book for hours. We especially loved the thoughtful cakes that we were left, yummy!

The Stables has everything you want and need out of an Air BnB with a huge kitchen, living room and bedroom and two bathrooms. Perfect for couples, friends & families with a king sized bed & 2 singles. We have a warming wood burner, sunny cottage garden & patio. So peaceful, walking distance to 2 excellent local pubs, a village shop, cafes, bike hire & the Dean Forest Railway. Ideally located for cycling, walking, RSPB, Puzzlewood & other local attractions.
We renovated the cottage in 2018 to create a peaceful home from home, light and bright and full of original character. The cottage is on the edge of the popular village of Parkend on a no through lane, looking out over fields and woods and passed by the family cycle track. It really is a brilliant location for walking or cycling straight out into the Forest, or whiling away an afternoon in the garden listening to the occasional 'toot' of a steam train. The cottage is reached down a wide flight of steps, whilst not steep, access may be difficult for guests with limited mobility. I love to garden and have pots of flowers outside in the sunny courtyard. A secure, lockable stone shed houses the washing machine and has plenty of space for bikes (our tandem has fitted in with ease!). The front door opens straight into the kitchen / diner, well equipped with a dishwasher, electric oven & ceramic hob, fridge with ice box and wonderful old dresser. The table comfortably seats 4 with plenty of room to cook and chat, or spread out a map and plan your days. A child's high chair is available on request. We provide a monthly local highlights poster (from wild daffodil walks, times of the Severn Bore, music and events) as well as lots of leaflets on local attractions. maps. walking guides and guide books. Look for Ediths Cottage on (Hidden by Airbnb) for more information. The sitting room has original panelling, comfy sofas, a smart TV, books, maps & guides, phone and wifi as well as the most lovely old fireplace with a modern, efficient wood burner. We provide kindling, matches and your first basket of logs (we cut & season our own firewood from conservation projects). Nothing beats a good fire on a winters night! The wood burner is supplemented by modern electric wall heaters throughout. The sitting room also looks out through French windows onto the pretty cottage back garden and patio with outdoor table and chairs, perfect for the summer. Please note that there are 3 un-guarded steps down into the garden and a low shrub border separates the garden from a neighbouring shallow garden pond. Toddlers and young children must be supervised at all times in the garden. The bathroom opens off of the sitting room with a large electric shower - we do not have a bath! The stairs leading off the sitting room are relatively steep and narrow leading to a twin bedroom looking out over fields to woods and a double bedroom with a King bed and its original Victorian fireplace, looking out over the gardens. There is plenty of wardrobe and drawer space but this may need to be shared between the two rooms. All linens including quality bedding and towels are supplied. A child's travel cot is available on request (bring your own bedding). We also supply washing up liquid, dish washer & washing machine consumables, loo roll, milk and starter pack of tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper. We welcome car free guests and can arrange taxis from Lydney station (4 miles away). In the Summer it is even possible (Wednesday & Sunday) to arrive by steam train which connects with through trains at Lydney! We provide 2 bikes (adults only) for your use. Brilliant for exploring the miles of car free cycle tracks and enjoying the peace of the forest. Please contact me in advance if you want to borrow the bikes for our Ts & Cs. Extra bikes including children's and mountain bikes can be hired in the village (booking advised).
Parkend is in the heart of the forest, it has a lovely welcoming holiday vibe, with two great pubs serving food (The Woodman & The Fountain) a well stocked village shop, post office and cafe, Dean Forest bike hire & cafe serves excellent coffee and has a brilliant secluded back garden overlooking the steam railway. The popular Dean Forest Railway has family friendly events (think Thomas & Peppa Pig) throughout the year. Whitemead Holiday Park is also on the edge of the village with a good restaurant, facilities and music through the season open to non-residents. All of this is within an easy walk of Ediths Cottage. What makes us really special is the miles of beautiful mature woodlands on our doorstep, a haven for wildlife, walkers and cyclists alike. We provide maps & guides to help you get the most from your trip, we are just 3 miles along the family cycle trail to Pedalabikeaway centre, the Sculpture Trail and Beechenhurst centre. Look out for free roaming sheep, deer and even wild boar, this is a great location at any time of year.
  • Edith's Cottage is truly special and caretaker Ann is exactly that. It is spotless, charming and loaded with info and tips on local activities. The beds are very comfortable, the shower excellent and the garden peaceful and welcoming. Kitchen is well-appointed. Bikes are on offer after a meeting with Ann. Trails in all directions right outside the door. Only warning is that the stairs are steep and that the bedrooms are on the first floor while the toilet/shower is on the ground floor, so elderly and small children should be attended to while navigating back and forth. We recommend a stay with no hesitation.

  • Our stay at Edith's Cottage was great in every way, from the warm welcome from Ann to the excellently equiped and beautifully located cottage. We would definately stay again.

    Oliver2018-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Expect a warm welcome, excellent local information, a rapid response to enquiries, charming cottage, pleasant neighbours, beautiful local walks and cycle tracks (with wildlife) and two pleasant easily walkable pubs.

    Marjorie2018-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • We both enjoyed our few days at Edith's cottage very much. It is in an ideal location for great mountain biking. My partner took his own bike and I borrowed one of Ann's. Plenty of space to store your bike if you take it with you which is ideal. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming in the local area. Ann's welcome touches on arrival including homemade scones and jam were so kind and thoughtful. The cottage has everything you need with lovely outside areas to enjoy the nature and surroundings. The maps and information Ann has provided come in really handy. Simon cycled to and from the cottage to the Cannop bike park each day and got in several hours on the trails and we cycled the sculpture trail from the cottage which was interesting particularly the huge stain glass window that hangs in the forest. The location of Edith's was absolutely perfect for us and to top it off the pub is a 10 second walk from the cottage! A lovely pub perfect for a cold cider and pub lunch in the beer garden after your bike ride. We'll be back another time and would recommend. Thank you Ann

  • My stay at Edith's Cottage was amazing. Ann was so welcoming and had thought of everything. The cottage was spotless and has a really cosey feel to it. It's in a quiet village with a great pub a few doors down and its in a great location to get to walks and other towns near the forest of dean. I would definitely recommend and hope to stay again one day.

    Rosalie2018-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks Ann. We had a great stay at the cottage. Well located, comfortable and thoughtfully kitted out. Beautiful garden. Easy parking. Plentifu hot water. Comfortable beds. We cycled, canoed and visited a coal mine. Woodman pub is lovely and only a few doors away. We hope to return to the cottage soon.

    James2018-08-13T00:00:00Z

  • Carolyn 's place is the wonderful place to stay and feel real English pictureque countryside She is so thoughtful host that she always concern whatever we need and willing to help us We love her nice place where we can feel home away from home thanks very much Carolyn

    Aree2017-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn is a great host, there were lovely little gifts there for us when we arrived. We arrived late and it was easy to get access. We were looking for a nice relaxing getaway and we got just that, with the space on offer, my son had all the space to run around in the garden and with the selection of board games, We had plenty to do. 10 mins drive from the family cycle route in forest of Dean which is why we chose this area, so whilst a remote village, it was everything we wanted. Thanks again, see you next year.

    Adam2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was lovely. The treats left for us was a lovely surprise. The accommodation was clean. The kitchen had every gadget you could think of. There are books to browse, games to play and leaflets about the surrounding area. Carolyn made us feel very welcome. We had a lovely 3 night stay at the Retreat, thank you Carolyn for letting us stay at your lovely house.

    Jeanette2017-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The postcode took us to one of the other houses past Greenfields and Carolyn came out of her house to welcome us into her home. She met us with warmth and a big smile and we had a warm house and fresh bread waiting for us. She showed us around the lovely annexe and answered all our queries. The annexe was perfect, clean, spacious and very comfortable. Carolyn has taken a lot of time and effort in making the annexe feel like home and it sure did. It was nice coming back home in the evening with our two little ones and finding a home where we could relax and put our feet up. We had a flip out bed for our 3 ear old and a travel cot provided for our 1 year old so we did not even need to use the sofa bed in the living room. There is definitely enough space for a big family. The kitchen comes with all cutlery and has a very nice open plan with the joining living area. The shower is brilliant and the bathroom is exceptionally clean. The garden space outside is a bonus where you can sit and enjoy the greenery whilst the children have an outdoor space to play. There is a big trampoline in the garden which we had much fun on. There are many things to do nearby and are just a short drive away. We went to Dean Forest and did the family bike trail and also Perrygrove for our kids. Perrygrove is very suitable for all aged children and has treasure hunt activities. For children under 3 there is a very spacious play area and a picnic area. We also went to Symonds Yat Rock, which we absolutely loved. The view was amazing and is a very beautiful memorable walk along the Biblins bridge. A must see for all who love nature and its greatness. There are many opportunities for fishing and canoeing, and there is a Tesco roughly about 15 minutes drive away. However, if you want a real local experience, then there are farm shops selling good quality local produce. Carolyn very delightfully allowed our children to help her feed the chickens and ducks in the morning and also generously gave them eggs. It is very important for us to be somewhere where our children also feel comfortable and our 3 year old is already asking to go back to aunty Carolyn's home, as he calls her. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and will be back with family as we loved Greenfields so much. The stay was enough was to make us question living in the city when the countryside has much better spacious homes and beautiful greenery. Overall, we had an amazing stay at Greenfields and couldn't ask for more from Carolyn and Martin. They truly are lovely people and we will definitely return again in the future. Again, Thank you very much for such an amazing stay. Sumiyyah and Hilal

  • Carolyn is a very friendly and helpful host. The house itself is very good for value in a quite and comfortable environment. Great house.

    Andy2018-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely stay with Carolyn. She was really helpful and flexible when it came to our arrival time and it was no inconvenience to her that we were later than hoped because of the Friday traffic. Upon arrival we were greeted by Carolyn whose good mood made us feel much better after a boring drive! She is an awesome host! The house was immaculate and was even nicer than the photos! Carolyn kindly provided us with some fruit, bread, scones, cream and jam, cookies, juice, milk, eggs! All the treats you want! We really couldn't have asked for more. We only stayed for a weekend but we would definitely like to return for longer next time if our busy work will allow it! It has everything you could need for a stay of any length. Thank you so much for a lovely weekend. We are really looking forward to our next visit!

  • Lucille and Tony's place is right on the centre of town. The apartment is above the shop, in a beautifully renovated period building. Anything we could have imagined needing was provided for in this very well thought out Airbnb rental. Some previous guests mentioned noise at night: there's a small local pub across the road so really the noise is just people chatting and it didn't disturb us at all. We stayed during the Coleford music festival (which was great fun!) so there was more noise on two nights but we knew about this in advance and got to watch lots of great bands. Highly recommend Lucille and Tony's place to others and hope to return again. Coleford is a great bass for exploring the Forest of Dean.

    Louise2017-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic holiday home in a wonderful location. The house is pristine and beautifully decorated with everything you need for a perfect break. Tony and Lucy are excellent hosts and their hospitality goes above and beyond. A little gem in the Forest of Dean.

    Debbie2017-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great weekend away at Lucille's place in Coleford. The apartment is beautiful just like the pictures and we loved all the special touches like having milk, tea and strawberries waiting for us. We would definitely stay here again.

  • It was so nice to walk into a rental apartment and not be disappointed. The photos shown are exactly what you are renting, the welcome pack goes far beyond the usual milk, tea coffee etc, and we wanted for nothing. The apartment has every extra you may want, books, games, great walk in shower and bath and a well supplied kitchen.

  • I think it would be good to emphasize that the cottage is one of many joined together , so really an apartment in a holiday centre , but very clean and nice

  • A clean & tidy cottage, with all the necessities & a well equipped kitchen. Plenty of space outdoors for the kids to play ( age 11, 9 & 6). Elaine & John opened the indoor play area for the kids to play pool! Lovely walks in the forest & also plenty of outdoor activities in the area, zip wire, cycle tracks etc.. Very central to Cardiff, Bath & Gloucester!

    Joanne2015-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very welcoming host, cottage had everything I could need and it's in a beautiful part of the country.

    Ross2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was as described and expected, in some part even more. It has all the comfort and all the information you need are presented at hand including maps, activities and places to eat. It was a very good choice for our family of 5 and for family with kids in general. Elaine was there to welcome us and show the premises. During the stay we did not felt her presence at all, but I am sure that if needed she was there to help. As a suggestion because I had trouble finding the place when arrived I woud suggest having a sign when entering to Yorkley Wood Road.

Nestled in the heart of the country-side within the Forest-of-Dean our self-catering cottage with its original features is perfectly located for a leisurely holiday. Lots to see and do in the area for all the family with Forest walks and cycle rides on the doorstep, other activities within close proximity are : Fishing, Canoeing, Castles, Nature Reserves, Boat trips, Diving, Golf, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Cinemas. Also the film location for - Star Wars, Dr. Who, Harry Potter & more.
There is no other cottage like Mill Hill Cottage in this location.
The location is known for its free roaming sheep and wild boar which can only be found in the Forest of Dean.
  • Well equipped character cottage. Great for most people but not for the elderly or infirm. Several small internal steps caused many falls by all of the four 70+ family members. Luckily my husband and I were good catchers and much younger. Low ceilings in places also gave them a few bruised heads. We found ourselves constantly yelling "step" or "head" but often too late. No serious damage done and we all had a laugh over it. Wonderful garden but unfortunately weather did allow us to enjoy it.

    Kay2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is cosy and in the heart of a friendly village with a nearby shop, great fish n chip shop and surrounded by countryside. Gillian was thoughtful in providing milk, tea, coffee and logs and the beds are very comfortable and the cottage was nice and clean with a lovely garden.

    Emma2018-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and cozy cottage, remote location with a lovely wood fire. The living space was a bit smaller than we had hoped, and our four children made it feel smaller still. However the bedrooms were nice sizes and suited our needs well.

    Steve2017-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is really lovely - we actually thought it was nicer in person than it looks in the pics. Check in was super east and there was milk and tea/coffee provided which is a nice touch. Gillian booked us a table at a nearby restaurant The Rising Sun (Moseley) which was really helpful and it was lovely food there. The location is perfect for walking/cycling as the forest is on the doorstep. We had a really fantastic stay.

  • Wonderful, spacious cottage. Easy check-in. Beautiful garden. Everything we needed was in the house. Plenty of space around the house. We could park our car and the trailer in front. Nice owner who came in immediately after a small problem. The environment is lovely for walks. Small supermarket easy to walk, just around the corner. Big supermarket about 10 minutes by car. One twinbed and the single bed(s) were soft, which we don´t prefer, but we slept all right. The other bed was good. Overall a great stay.

    Caroline2018-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • The host canceled this reservation 38 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

    Ruth2016-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage suited our needs as six adults attending a wedding nearby. Gillian was quick to respond to initial questions, but unfortunately we were sent the wrong code to the key safe making it tricky to get in. Fortunately the hosts live next door so eventually came to help us. The beds were comfy and the sitting area nice. We never found matches to light the fire, and we could have done with more toilet paper and washing up liquid - particularly as all the pans needed washing before use as they had been left sticky, probably by previous guests. We couldn't use the grill. Being asked to bring your own towels seems an odd arrangement - you will also need to bring a hand towel for the bathroom. The kitchen had some tea and coffee, but you'll need to bring everything else - milk, oil for cooking, etc. The cottage fitted the bill as it was close to the wedding venue, was quiet and comfortable enough, but it's not somewhere we personally would choose to go for a holiday/break.

A warm and sunny single storey cottage with 2 bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen/lounge/diner and a shower room. We live adjacent to this cottage and personally ensure it is thoroughly cleaned for each guest. Quietly situated. Village & Pub 1/2 mile.
Sunrise Cottage, originally a stable, is now a bright and sunny comfortable, nicely furnished ground floor cottage with a double bedroom and a single bedroom, sleeping 3 + baby. The kitchen is well equipped with full size cooker, fridge and microwave, plenty of crockery, utensils and cooking pots & pans. The washing machine and tumble drier are in the shared laundry (no charge). Sunrise Cottage is ideal for the young, and the not so young, being all on one level and with a shower room. Parking for 1 car is right outside the door. We can supply a travel cot and a high chair if required - please request when booking. Sunrise Cottage is kept 'pet free'. Sunrise Cottage is quietly situated, but not isolated. Our own house is adjacent and there are also other holiday cottages on site.
We are right on the edge of the Forest of Dean. There is direct access from our grounds into the Forest which is 'free to roam'. The Forest is a beautiful, natural unspoilt area, and every season has its own beauty - carpets of bluebells in spring, sun shining through the trees in summer, spectacular autumn colours, haw frosts in winter. There are also many attractions within easy reach - castles, caves, craft centres, shopping centres, steam railway, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking etc as well as a TV & Film trail enabling you to find the spectacular backdrops used in many famous films such as StarWars, Merlin, Atlantis, Dr Who etc.

  • Sunrise cottage provides what it "says on the label". It is very clean, welcoming and well equipped for 3 people (adults). It is in a convenient location and Elaine is a helpful and friendly host. We had a lovely few days and would thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to get to know the Forest of Dean area.

  • Sunrise Cottage was the perfect get away for us with our new baby. The cottage is immaculately clean with good heating and all the cooking and cleaning utensils you could wish for. The location was perfect for us to explore the wonderful Forest of Dean, we had no idea it had so much to offer. Elaine's recommendations for pubs for meals was also spot on with excellent, friendly service at both.

    Stephen2015-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage and ample space for a family of 5! Cosy and perfect in every way. Everything that I would need was available in the cottage so was deffo a home from home! Elaine made sure we had milk on arrival which was a great help with little ones. The play area was fantastic to keep the kids entertained. Great location with easy reach to many activities.

    Sp2016-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • Just like previous reviewers have said, the cottage was exceptionally clean. Elaine was there to welcome us when we arrived and the fresh milk and chocolate biscuits were a welcome treat after the journey. The cottage had everything needed for our break and our 7 year old loved the large playing field. We thoroughly enjoyed our mini break in the Forest. The location was perfect for everything we needed to do. Breakfast at the Lydney Brew was scrummy as were the fish ‘n chips from Ruddy’s!

Shower is brilliant and kitchen big enough for cooking meal in and all utensils available, 2 good pubs for good within walking distance. Will definitely be back again.

  • If you are looking for a place to stay in the Coleford, sling or clearwell area then look no more for this place is where you want to be. My wife and I along with our 5 month old baby were attending a wedding at clearwell castle and booked this fab studio which was airy, roomy and in the most fabulous gardens of the owners main house. The family were very pleasant, helpful and also just allowed us to get on with things. The garden is magnificent. Shower and bath sublime - the whole studio is spotless and very well built. As first time air bnb people we were very pleased with our find. Five stars.

  • Lynda is a fantastic host, amazing communication from the moment we show interest in Hectors House. The house is a lovely size, with an amazing kitchen which is well stocked and spacious! The garden was the best assest of the house, absolutely beautiful, totally secure and the dog and kids loved it, even in the pouring rain! It is a very quiet spot, which suited us, as we were looking for peace and quiet. I can highly recommend Hectors House, if you are looking for a quiet base and a comfortable, quaint house.

  • Such an amazing find and hidden gem in a picturesque area, not far other stunning places. Warm cosy village pubs, great walks and relaxing surroundings is a guarantee when staying at the coach house. Both James and Melissa are the perfect hosts, very accommodating and very welcoming. The little touches like fresh milk and eggs as well as first suggestions for local pubs and restaurants made are stay that more special. A definite recommendation at great value.

  • Amazing! Beautiful grounds and views, so peaceful, you will not want to leave. So much to explore, we did a five mile footpath walk and only saw one person, a real gem. James and Melissa were fantastic hosts and the coach house is gorgeous, very tastefully furnished, spotless and comfortable. The tennis court is spot on and has amazing views, so much so you can be forgiven for missing the ball!

    Amanda2018-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful, peaceful place with amazing views! We had a wonderfully relaxing weekend here. The apartment was so comfortable and had everything you could need and more, with lots of little touches to make us feel welcome. We met Melissa a couple of times and she was ever so friendly and helpful. We particularly loved how peaceful it was - the only sounds we heard were the birds and the sheep - and we loved seeing the sweet newborn lambs scampering around! Brilliant bonus of a quick game of boules on the pitch in the sunshine. We will be recommending you to everyone. Thanks James and Melissa!

Delightful cottage set in the pretty village of Clearwell, close to excellent local pubs & restaurants.
Foxglove Cottage is a very well equipped spacious three bedroom cottage recently restored to provide a high standard of accommodation. It is located on a quiet country lane in a row of four cottages, with parking outside the front door. We welcome you to a haven of tranquillity – away from the hubbub of modern life, a real ‘cottage’ feel but with a home from home range of amenities and facilities. Foxglove Cottage is the perfect setting for a leisurely break away from it all, and with central heating and wood burning stove it is cosy at any time of the year. The area is a paradise for walkers having many varied walks on the doorstep: there are maps and books provided in the cottage, covering leisurely strolls to full day hikes in the Forest, or along the Wye Valley and Offa’s Dyke path. After a busy day, why not unwind in one of the local hostelries in the village for great food & drink or enjoy a BBQ in our pretty courtyard garden. The enclosed courtyard garden is secure and suitable for pets.
The picturesque village of Clearwell is on the edge of the Forest of Dean, close to Monmouth & in an attractive valley adjacent to the Wye Valley Area of outstanding Natural Beauty. Just a five minute walk from Foxglove Cottage is Clearwell Castle plus the famous Clearwell Caves, with their atmospheric mine workings and impressive caverns with winding passageways. Puzzlewood, just up the road, is also well worth a visit, with its magical wood used recently as a film set for Dr Who and Merlin. Within easy driving distance other places of interest include Tintern Abbey, the Wye Valley, the Cotswolds, “Go Ape”, Symonds Yat, the Parkend to Lydney steam railway, Dean Heritage Museum, and Chepstow racecourse.
  • This is a beautiful home from home! Really comfy beds, quality sheets and lots of lovely touches - we were really impressed by the attention to detail and the added extras that had been provided. The area is beautiful too - lots of maps and walk suggestions and leaflets for the surrounding area have been provided in the cottage. We enjoyed trips to Puzzlewood, Forest of Dean Steam Railway, Tintern Abbey and Symonds Yat - all were great days out and highly recommended. We ate at The Butchers Arms in the village and The Miners at Sling (walkable but very uphill!) both of which were lovely, especially the latter. If you are considering Foxglove Cottage for a holiday, DO IT! It's a great location and a warm, comfortable and beautiful home to stay in.

Clearwell is a lovely little area, we went to the caves in the day and had a fab dinner at the Butchers Arms down the road. We also went to the diving and activity center nearby to do some flyboarding. We can't recommend this place enough.

A large and fabulous Peppermint Tent, comfortably furnished and set in its own woodland garden nestled amongst the trees. A lovely hideaway to relax into a more peaceful life for a day or two (or possibly a week or two!) Forest of Dean.
This lovely Peppermint Tent is set in its own private garden in amongst hedges and banks and a lovely birch grove. 5 by 4 metres, it´s a generous size, light and airy in the hot weather, and cosy and warm if it's wet outside. There are spare blankets and sheepskins, and a gas heater inside, along with a 2 ring gas burner and grill for cooking. if you fancy wilder camping, you can cook on the fire outside, surrounded by trees and birdsong. A fabulous place for a secluded romantic getaway.
We´re on the edge of the Forest of Dean, one of the most famous beauty spots in England. The River Wye is at the bottom of the hill, woodland walks on your doorstep, Symonds Yat just a stone´s throw away, deer wandering through the garden, and wild boor in the woods. Welcome to Paradise!
  • Lovely spot to walk the forest of Dean or explore Symonds yat. Not far from pubs and a couple of shops nearby. Accommodation was as described and the toilets were lovely

    Conor2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place to stay. The tent was just as expected, very room and nicely decorated. Bed was comfy. The toilet and showers were clean and modern. There was a BBQ available for use and seating outside, although we chose to go in to Coleford for Tapas as recommended by Julie - which was great. There wasn't much within walking distance but if you have a car, there is a market town 5-10 min drive away and Symonds Yat East by the river which has loads of things to do and places to eat/drink. Would recommend this place as it's unique and offers a night in the countryside without going all out camping. Many thanks.

    Nia2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • we booked for two nights over the weekend. It was our first time 'glamping' so was t sure quite what to expect. The tent was wonderful - it had everything we needed and was well equipped and cosy to stay in. The tent was nestled its own private garden so we had plenty of privacy too. The shower and toilet facilities were excellent and Jules and Phoebe who own/run the site were lovely and really helpful. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of camping in a bit of luxury

    Adam2016-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely rural location and our tent had its own private area where we could sit in the evenings with a glass of wine! Our tent was a bit on the basic side and I definitely wouldn't refer to it as luxury, however it was only £60 per night so the price was on par with what we got. Julie was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed

    Kara2016-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely relaxing setting.

    Naomi2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely lovely stay in a fantastic location. Everything that you needed was provided and the toilet and shower were in great condition. There was a very friendly cat that decided to spend the night with us for one night which was adorable. The yurt was incredibly cosy and the electric heater was definitely needed and was lovely to have. Will 100% be recommending this place and hopefully will return.

    Bethan2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place exceeded all our expectations! We received a courtesy call on the day of check in to confirm our ETA, and a very warm welcome & a tour of the place upon arrival. Our canvas tent was beautifully presented, spacious & immaculate. There were flowers on the coffee table, a very comfortable & lovely bed which had handcrafted bedspread & plenty of pillows, plus extra duvets if required. The tent had a dehumidifier & electric burner which were switched on prior to our arrival to make the place warm & inviting. Inside there was a rocking chair, plus chairs for the coffee table, each with beautiful cushions. There was patio furniture outside & a BBQ grill, and the room was lit with candles & beautiful lamps. There were sheep skin rugs in the middle of the room and the entrance had AstroTurf for a doormat. We were supplied with a full container of drinking water that’s more than enough for two. Our tent was located in the centre of a stone circle which has been used for marriages, blessings & spiritual Pagan pilgrimage over the decades. There was wild uncut grass, plus an apple orchard & a farm on site. The place really came into its own at night when the walkways were lit with beautiful solar lights, presenting plenty of photo opportunities. The location was ideal to park at, with plenty of things to do within a few minutes drive. We were given plenty of info about the history of the place & about good pubs locally. The host was only a phone call away, and eager to help. There was a connected drain & water supply & permanent structures for the toilet & shower. There was loo role in the toilet & the easy to use shower had good water pressure- both were spotless. These guys even provided us with a squeaky clean shower step & wash chair to help me wash due to a bad back. On one occasion when I got lost, someone met me & escorted me back to our tent. We got a friendly farewell at the point of departure. Every night, we longed to get back to the tent. We woke up with lovely birds chirping happily. At night, the place was pin drop silent & we slept in heavenly peace away from the city. Whisper, the resident cat, also kept us good company. We never wanted to leave! We felt so thoroughly relaxed & energised after our stay & would really like to visit again. :) This was my partner’s birthday, and our first ever romantic get away after getting engaged. We were delighted by all the little touches & really want to thank you for making this such a memorable trip for us. Hope to see you again very soon. Love from Muzz & Caroline xxx

  • David's place was one of the best Airbnbs we have stayed at. Dave was incredibly hospitable, offering us tea on arrival and making us breakfast in the morning. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean, with its own bathroom as well as private stairs to the room. He also gave us useful local advice according to which we changed our plans - and we had a great day following his tips.

  • David was one of the friendliest and accommodating hosts we've met on air bnb. The place was tidy, the hot tub was awesome as it's undercover so great in any weather. Really good value for money. Amongst many things we really enjoyed the company of Ben, David's dog, who is very well behaved and friendly. Location is great also for cycling and visiting nearby attractions and a great pub a few minutes walk away from the house.

  • Dave was very welcoming. The accommodation was lovely. His dog Ben was amazing. The location is fantastic and is perfect for exploring the wonderful Forest of Dean. When we go back we will stay with him again.

  • You could not wish for a better host, thanks Dave...and Ben the doggie is lovely. It's a homely house in an ideal location with friendly locals down the pub...perfect

Canoeing, Cycling, Zip Wiring also found locally. Wet room with Rain Head Shower, underfloor heating and bluetooth Hi-fi. Kitchen has dishwasher, fan oven, microwave, induction hob and extractor. Orchard Cottage is very popular because it has its own all weather private Jacuzzi. Halfway up Blakeney Hill, the cottage looks out across unspoilt farmland towards the River Severn and the Cotswolds.
Blakeney Hill is an idyllic settlement of old forest houses mainly more than 200 years old south facing with views of the River Severn. The local tradition of cider making continues with our neighbour, James Mccrindle, who makes some of the best cider in the South West. The surrounding farmland is managed by a local collective, The Blakeney Hill Growers, established to bring neglected resources into use. For example there are beehives in the adjacent field.

The Whitehouse is an extended traditional stone-built forest cottage located in the Forest of Dean village of Pillowell overlooking the forest. Two minutes walk from the front door takes you to an extensive range of forest tracks. Beautiful setting at any time of year. The cottage has 5 bedrooms (one with en suite bathroom) and sleeps up to 10 comfortably. There is a large garden on 3 sides and a double garage with further off-street parking for 2 additional cars.
There is a huge living room/dining room with grand piano, TV, DVD, large oak dining table (seats 10-12) and a games room with a full-size table tennis table and good selection of board-games. The kitchen (and adjoining breakfast-room) is well-equipped with an extensive range of crockery and cooking utensils, hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and separate fridge-freezer, coffee-maker, toaster. Utility room with washer-dryer. Beautiful garden with fruit trees, lawns and flower beds. Patio and outdoor dining area with exterior lighting and a good range of garden furniture including a large circular wrought-iron table with parasol shade, folding gazebo and BBQ. All bed linen, towels, utilities inclusive. A travel-cot and 2 high-chairs are also available.
The house is situated in the Forest of Dean, right next to the forest, which offers a wealth of outdoor activities including mountain-biking (family trail with cycle hire 2 miles away), canoeing and kayaking on the river Wye (Symonds Yat 4 miles away), a high wire forest adventure course at 'Go Ape' (2 miles), horse-riding, as well as an extensive network of forest trails. The forest of Dean has been populated at least since Roman times and is of great historic interest retaining vestiges of its varied past as a centre for charcoal-burning, iron and coal mining and forestry. It represents one of the largest tracts of historic forest in England with many varied broad-leaved and coniferous trees - some of them hundreds of years old. The area abounds in wild-life; highlights include peregrine falcons, goshawks, deer and wild boar. In the Spring, the forest floor is carpeted in some areas with magnificent displays of bluebells and other wild flowers. Clearwell caves are within easy reach as are the atmospheric ruins of Tintern Abbey. A steam railway operates from Parkend, about 1.5 miles walk through the forest from the house. The nearest pub and shop are about 1/4 mile away. Chepstow and Gloucester are within 30 minutes' drive, while Bristol can be reached within 45 mins-1hr. The nearest main-line railway station is in Lydney, approx 3 miles away. Further afield, the attractions of S. Wales are within easy reach (Brecon Beacons National Park is about 1 hour's drive away).
  • This is a really great place. The house is very comfortable. Excellent kitchen and dining room. The living room is large and very comfortable. Really nice patio and perfect for barbecue. Easy access to the Forest Dean. It’s a little bit of a drive to the Cotswolds but is not inconvenient. Several places to eat within driving distance. The street the house is located on is somewhat busy but quiet at night. Neighbors are very friendly. We enjoyed our three night stay. Our host was very communicative which we really appreciate it.

    Dennis2018-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house in a nice quiet area. We were 8 adults, 2 children and a baby staying for a family 60th birthday celebration weekend. The house was plenty big enough and the kids loved the table tennis room and piano in the lounge. Plenty of room for us all to sit and eat together every day and a very well equipped kitchen. Although the house is a little tired and could do with a few improvements, it made for a fabulous location for the weekend. If you got some better mattresses for the beds (they were very uncomfortable), we would definitely use the house again for another family gathering. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

    Kerry2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely big place. Had issues with the shower however- they are great at offering to help so is recommend trying it out as soon as you get there. Still would recommend.

    Katerina2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • My extended family and I had a lovely weekend in the Forest of Dean in Dan's bright and spacious house. There was ample space for three families to be comfortable and enjoy lots of communal time together, and lots of walking straight from the door. The piano and table tennis were very well used, as was the large dining table and kitchen. Dan was quick to respond to my emails, and helpful in planning our trip. Marlene and Trevor were wonderfully welcoming when I called to pick up the keys; many thanks! Would happily recommend the White House to friends looking for an outdoorsy trip to the Forest of Dean and lots of space to unwind in!

    Richard2018-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great big house in the forest of dean which is perfect for larger groups of people wanting to explore what the forest has to offer. Its well equipped to cater for large groups and has a great location.

    Peter2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • The house was cosy and homely, the sofas were very comfortable and accommodating. The decor was slightly outdated but that doesn't take away from its appeal. The table tennis room was perfect! The kitchen was full of all the implements necessary to cook over the weekend. The local pubs in the area only accepted card, however it's easy to prepare for. And there is a tesco superstore with cheap petrol an 8 minute drive away. My only snags with the house would be the showers, one shower head kept falling off as it was cracked and hitting me on the head each time I showered. The TV also is quite old and the scart lead kept going showing a weird green glow across the TV screen when watching dvds. All in all I believe myself and all the guests enjoyed our stay there. Great home and value for money! I would stay there again! Thank you very much Dan! P.s. parking is also a nightmare if you have lots of cars!

  • Beautiful homely cottage in a brilliant location. Sally was the perfect host with communication and the lovely thoughtful touches. The welcome pack and dog box went down a treat.

  • Beautiful cottage, in a lovely location. We loved the decor. The kitchen is extremely well kitted out. The fire was a big attraction for use. Lots of cosy touches. The hostess was extremely helpful, communication very good.

    Leslie2017-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • Communication with Sally was great throughout. The house is fantastic. Clean, beautifully decorated and with everything you need. I especially appreciated the coffee machine and excellent shower in the mornings. Sitting outside in the peaceful surroundings - dog happily running loops around the lawn, countryside and the architecture of the church next door. It's an old house, cleanly decorated in light colours with modern amenities but keeping great features like exposed ceiling beams, inglenook fireplace and stove. The bedrooms are lovely and with comfy beds. I loved the fact even the dog had a welcome basket - blankets, towels, treats, bowls. We ate at the nearby Butcher's Arms which was walkable, dog-friendly, and served excellent food (great veggie selection too) and ale. Clearwell castle is walking distance although we didn't have time to check it out. There is so much to do and Clearwell is only a short drive from everything. We'll definitely be back.

We are situated less than a mile away from the village of St Briavels. It is a vibrant little village in the Forest of Dean, on the edge of the beautiful Wye Valley. It has an inn, an art gallery, a deli, a church and a castle. A monthly farmers' market is held in the village on the first Saturday morning of every month, where you can buy a whole range of local produce, including bread and cakes, cider and real ale, fish, and speciality meats.
The lodge is an annexe next to 150 year old cottage - close to Offas Dyke path and Wye Valley. The accommodation is a galleried loft space with private shower room, kingsize bed, single bed and a Z bed to accommodate a 4th guest, if required. There is also a seating/lounge/tv area. Own private entrance. No cooker/kitchen, but there is a microwave/small oven, a toaster, a mini fridge and a kettle. There is free wifi, but, due to our location, it can be quite patchy. The annex also has it's own private lawned garden, with a seating area - you are more than welcome to bring a disposable BBQ. along. There is also a lovely village pub less than a mile away which serves a range of delicious meals, next to St Briavels Castle. There is also a deli/small café in the village, along with a park and tennis courts.
Discover things to do in or near St Briavels: The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is home to a great range of attractions - some man-made, some completely natural but all of them well worth a visit. You may wish to discover the area's history, or enjoy a stroll around a nature reserve. There’s an array of family oriented attractions where you can all have fun, relax or enjoy some animal magic. On rainy days there’s also plenty to do from museums to caves or how about spending some time riding a steam train through the forest or taking a cruise down the River Wye. There really is no shortage of ideas for things to see and do in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean
  • Karen's flat was very comfortable and clean, perfect for a country stopover. Keren was very friendly and helpful from the start and was great with communicating check in details etc. Would recommend!

  • Lovely and attentive hosts. Wye valley and the Brecon Beacons on your doorstep. We enjoyed waking up to the sound of a cockerel- felt very immersive in the countryside. Once warmed the room was cosy, the heater in the bathroom was a great addition. There’s a high end microwave oven/grill so you can prepare food and Kerens dishwashing service was very helpful. Thank you for a great stay!

  • We were welcomed by Keron, Lyndon and Lily and made to feel really at home ,the accomodation is fantastic and self contained much more than we expected and the touch of tea and coffee facilities and croissants was a lovely gesture there is also a microwave but we didn't use this unlike the magnetic dart board only thing we can comment on is Wi-Fi is very intermittent in the accommodation but fine at table just (Website hidden by Airbnb) sure anyone staying here would not be disappointed .Thank you for a lovely time at your home xxx

Cottage is located in the heart of the stunning Wye Valley. We are 9m from Chepstow and 5m from Monmouth. Offas Dyke footpath access from our grounds. Local fisheries. We are on a main bus route (69). There is 6 acres of amazing gardens and woodlands with jaw dropping views of the valley and river Wye. The cottage has two double and a quadruple room all ensuite, a lounge, small but functional kitchen and outside seating area. There is no shortage of historic and fun activities in the vacinity.
Use of the cottage and outside seating area. Guests may also explore the gardens and nearby walks. We are sure you'll love the views and if your lucky you may spot the local wildlife including deers, birds of prey and many other species of birds. Nearest pubs are in Llandogo, St Briavels and Redbrook. The nearest shop is in Llandogo. The nearest Post Office is in Redbrook and Monmouth has a Lidl, M&S food hall, Iceland and Waitrose. As well as lots of lovely places to eat out. Check in from 2pm -9pm. Check out 11am
We love living in the countryside. We don't have neighbours but the locals are very friendly. We are in the heart of the Wye Valley and surrounded by lots of beautiful places of interest such as Tintern Abbey, many Castles, lots of walks/trails. Nearby fisheries. Our property is on the edge of the Royal Forest of Dean.
  • Great views, plenty of bedroom space and loved the fact each room had an ensuite. Hosts were very accommodating and we had a great time at the cottage

  • The Cottage hosts a perfect house and location to remove yourselves from the hustle and bustle. Myself and 7 friends gathered together and found the accommodation more than adequate with extremely comfortable beds and living arrangements. The added food for breakfast was a wonderful touch. We will be returning in the summer for better weather (fingers crossed) and more walking.

    Tamsin2018-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was beautiful and very spacious, more than enough space for a family of 6 adults. The view from the cottage is amazing and there are many places to visit close by. The host was very helpful and made us feel very welcome and left bread and milk on arrival. The only think to note is that there is no phone reception in the cottage, which can be a bit difficult. Overall, we all had a lovely stay and would happily visit again.

    Aleena2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in this beautiful location. Emma and family (who live in the nearby house on the same land) made us very welcome (including birthday banners for my daughter's birthday) and provided basics: tea, coffee, milk, butter, biscuits and a bottle of wine, as well as towels and basic toiletries. Emma was also amenable to a later check out and she and her husband checked we had all we needed, showed us around the garden and introduced us to the chickens, and told us about the local wild boar that sometimes visit in winter! The view from the house and garden is beautiful and although close to the road it's a quiet road and sitting in the garden in front of the house is a peaceful spot, which gets the afternoon/evening sun, overlooking the River Wye and the hills beyond - just as in the picture. The bedrooms were all lovely, each with armchairs, TV and en suite bathroom. The rooms have lovely views and are light and spacious, (though too light in the mornings as the sun came through the pale curtains - so an eye mask is recommended!) Three out of four beds were comfortable - the fourth was ok with an extra quilt or topper on it. The living room/dining room lacks character but is comfortable, with a log burning stove (ample logs provided but you'll need your own firelighters/kindling). The kitchen is very small but well equipped. As well as no internet or wifi access (as per the description) we also had no mobile reception - so be prepared for that. You really can get away from it all here! But it's also close to amenities. It's just a few minutes drive north to Redbrooke or a few mins drive across the river and welsh border to Llandogo where there is a well-stocked village store and a pleasant pub with decent pub grub. From there and we did a lovely 2-hour circular (and in parts very steep) walk (which we found in the folder of info provided at the Cottage). It's only 10-15mins drive to Tintern Abbey, which is beautiful just from the road. It's worth a quick visit to Old Tintern Station, including old train coaches, which is now a museum/café/live music venue. Free entry with car park fee. And opposite the turning to the old station, we followed a sign to a 'Sculpture garden' - where we paid entry at an honesty box and spent an hour wandering around these informal but lovely cottage gardens, with sculptures dispersed throughout. We'd be happy to come back if visiting the area again - and it was great to find such a nice place that accommodated 8 people.

    Louise2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • A very welcoming family and cottage. A friendly greeting, a fridge of provisions, generous toiletries and cheerful decoration. The garden and view are fantastic too. It's raised position from the main road makes it quiet. Great location for Tintern, Monmouth and the Forest. A village store in Redbrook is a 5 minute drive away and Lidl is on the cottage side of Monmouth. Our two teenagers loved the large twin room and grandma loved her space. It was a perfect set up for 5 people.

    Ali2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was lovely and cosy with a wood burner and a view over the River Wye. Kitchen was a bit small for 8 adults but we made it work! Lots of lovely walks in the area including straight onto Offa’s Dyke from the property which is great. Only thing to note is that the road is not too easy to walk along as there is no pavement and cars go pretty fast so expect to drive if you need to go further afield.

    Flo2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great long weekend stay at the cottage. It's set in a beautiful surroundings with wonderful views over the hills and river Wye, the cottage is well equipped, all rooms are big especially the 'kids' room. There are 3 bathrooms, a living room with a wood burner and a kitchen which could be bigger but did the job. Monmouth is a lovely little town 10 mins away, we also went to Puzzlewood which was amazing. Emma and Emir were very nice and happy to help with anything. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who fancies a relaxing break
