“The Meteora is a rock formation in central Greece hosting one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos. The six (of an original twenty four) monasteries are built on immense natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area. It is located near the town of Kalambaka at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains. ”

“The impresssive theatre of Ancient Epidaurus is one of the most interesting archeological sites of Pelooponnese. The theatre is well known for the acoustics and for the energy of the place. It is situated in the Asclipeiio , an ancient Gree healing center and that gives another prespective into the ancient Greek medicine.”

“Myrtos beach is about 30 mins drive south of Fiskardo. It is one of the most photographed beaches in the world and featured in the “sea mine” scene in Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. In high season there are sun beds to rent and also a beach bar. The beach is surrounded by spectacular white cliffs and can become a heat trap so take plenty of water and listen to advice from the lifeguards regarding the swimming conditions as the sea floor drops off sharply close to the shoreline and can result in strong rip tides.”

“Esplanade and Liston, Between the Old Town and the old fortress" is the esplanade, a long green square that is a remnant of the Venetian fortifications in the 17th century. During the French occupation of Corfu at the turn of the 19th century the esplanade was planted with trees, while the cricket pitch is a holdover from the British period that followed. Also dating to that time is the Maitland Monument, a Neoclassical peristyle, with 20 Ionic columns around a rotunda, commemorating the Lord High Commissioner Thomas Maitland. The Liston, on the Esplanade’s western boundary is an elegant arcade, also from the French period and designed in the style of the Rue de Rivoli in Paris. ”

“This wonderful cave system is situated just off the Argostoli to Sami road to the south of Sami and close to the village of Chaliotata. The cave has been open to tourists since 1963. It is reputedly 40km deep but you cannot explore all of it. There is one large cavern that is about 1,000 square feet and has often hosted concerts and operas due to its fantastic acoustics.”

“It is one of the most hidden places and maybe for this reason more beautiful and wild of the entire island. To get there you have to pass through the mountains village of Agios Leon and from there following the signs, driving down a recently asphalted road running down to the sea and ending in a small square where you can park. From there getting down a few steps carved in the rock, you reach a real fiord stupefying the visitor for the clearness and colours of the waters. It is easy to imagine that in this place there are no many tourist facilities, only recently two terraces with loungers and umbrellas have been created but are not always enough for the request. For those who really care about caves it is worth visiting the first one just getting down the steps; once there and in the water you understand that the cave is to continue … but only for those who love extreme sports. We suggest to everybody and especially those who have their own boat, to visit Porto Roxa that is only 3 km from Porto Limnionas. It is another small bay with a slipway to put boats in the water in an exceedingly beautiful part of coast.”
