  • Nice place to retreat from the city. Fun fishing, bonfires, and cornhole. Roboats kayaks and fishing off the dock awesome. Felt at home. My att phone had poor signal. There is a general store about 10 minutes away, no banjos on the porch but it serves its purpose. Will be a great retreat for youth group or a 4H club

    James2017-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Pretty view. Boating and fishing on the lake was so much fun. House is stocked with everything you need (coffee pot, filters, blender, toaster, crock pot, huge pots, pans, etc etc). Good communication with owner. Very secluded. We didn't see another person the entire time we were there. Limited cell service which helped us truly "unplug." Our kids are ages 6 & 10 and this place suited them perfectly.

  • I had a very nice visit to the Benders House on their farm on Jackson. Brand new house, lovely people and I even met the vows in the morning!

    Michael2017-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • Bedrooms are nice and spacious, beds very comfy, beautiful bathroom. My kids and I had a great stay here as we were traveling through. But if you have time to stay, Mary and her husband have lots of acres to explore, farm animals to (URL HIDDEN) kids got to briefly see the cows before we headed off. They graciously prepared waffles and bacon for us, plus had fruit, bars, oatmeal, etc. out for us. Very generous folks! And you won't find a better price for this kind of accommodations.

    Aaron2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was absolutely perfect for a quiet get away. We enjoyed being out of the hustle and bustle of cities. Having the internet was huge and the pond was great to relax by, swim in and fish. We were able to go to a couple different places. For dinner I would highly recommend the Scioto Ribber for amazing steak and to be adventurous Ben's Happy Trails for horseback riding. The cabin felt like home immediately and was enjoyed by everyone.

    Victoria2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures did the cabin no justice. The place was cozy and comfortable. Will be back for sure.

    Eric2016-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Even though Deborah was out of town during our visit, I felt she went out of her way to welcome us and make sure we were able to get into the place without any issues. The cabin itself is super-cozy and has everything you need. And what an amazing spot, especially in mid-October. The porch offers a lovely view of the woods, where we spotted deer and turkeys ducking in and out of the trees. Great little pond on site, with a little paddleboat to cruise around in. Very quiet and very cozy and very relaxing for doing nothing, though the national forest is only about 45 minutes away for more exploring. Would definitely go back -- "Serene Cabin Escape" is a very accurate title, so if that's what you're after, this is the spot.

    Martin2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly a gem! From the pond to the woods to the cabin itself - I could not recommend this cabin enough! We felt right at home and fell in love with the place. It truly is serene, and Debbie is an awesome host and is super easy to communicate with. We accidentally locked ourselves out the first night we were there, and she was amazingly responsive and helpful. Thanks!

    Lisa2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as advertised. Well equipped with essentials. Quiet, cozy and comfortable. For those looking for more than a hotel and reasonably priced, this is the one.

  • This place is a little slice of heaven. It is quiet and peaceful. The cabin is cozy and very well decorated. Deborah and I had great communications and was a pleasure to work with. She thought about everything including spices to cook with. We will be going back for sure. Thanks Deborah

    Pam2016-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Deborah has a lovely cabin. It is very cozy. The setting is peaceful and beautiful. Deborah was accessible for questions and it was very easy to get into the cabin. The cabin is well maintained. We didn't do any outside activities at the cabin, other than enjoying sitting on the deck. We did venture into to quaint Minford. Giovanni's has a great menu. The people were very friendly and told us what we should do in the area. The murals at Portsmouth were definitely worth seeing. The antique shops were fun, too.

  • This place was just as described on the site. It was very clean and comfortable. If you are looking for privacy you will be very happy! Definitely enjoyed our stay and much better than staying in a hotel for two weeks. It was nice and quiet. There was even a little store next door that was great when we needed some snacks. It wasn't too far from the actual town of Waverly so we were able to make quick trips to Walmart for some groceries. We didn't have to remember a key as it was keyless entry. The owners, Dewey and his wife were very nice and helpful. Fawn was a great hostess and close by if we had any questions. Both parties were easy to reach if we needed anything. Thank you for a great experience! And thank you for letting us stay in your place!

  • Our host stayed in touch with us before, throughout, and after our visit. She was very caring and ensured that we were making our way there with proper directions - even telling me where the local Starbucks was ;-)! She was unable to meet us when we arrived but had someone meet us to show us how to get in, where everything was, and even the local market next store in case we should need anything. Everyone was friendly and accommodating...and the place was cozy!!

Located three miles from downtown Chillicothe (Ohio's first Capital) on a small 50 acre southern Ohio farm. The backyard overlooks pasture land and beautiful sunsets while the frontage is beautiful hillside and a inspirational sunrise. Relax on the patio and watch a wide variety of wildlife and an occasional goat. Rooms and patio area are large enough for large groups. The kitchen is 20' by 26' and was designed as a center of gathering. There is plenty of parking.
Pets are not permitted inside the home. But are welcome outside as long as they are critter friendly. Designating Smoking areas provided outside only.

My place is close to Zip-Lines , Motorsports, Outdoor Adventures, Serpent Mount and the Amish Community. You’ll love my place because of the outdoors space, the peace and quite and the location near plenty of fun things to do. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), and big groups. Note: Guests will need to bring their own Linens as they are not provided such as Sheets, Blankets and Pillows
  • Our family of six enjoyed the spaciousness of the Butternut cabin and the peace and quiet of the area. We loved being permitted to bring our fur babies along... at no extra cost. The cabins are rustic and outdated, but fine for camping in comfort! The kitchen had everything we needed... and there was even a TV with DVD and VHS player (and dozens of videos). I liked all the natural light and views of the woods. We looked past the old, brown carpeting and dark paneled walls. Our college-aged sons shared a room with twin beds, while our adult daughters shared a second bedroom... with one twin and one full bed. The master bedroom had a soft queen bed and each room had a floorfan, to help circulate the air. We all slept very well! We all loved having two full bathrooms... one on each floor! The campgrounds are very secluded and under construction, so we found very little nearby to do... which is fine if you enjoy family togetherness like we so. We bought games and puzzles for entertainment (no intenet/wifi!) We really liked the local Mennonite people and we visited the famous Indian Serpent Mound and museum nearby. It was a great trip!

  • When we arrived we could not find our Chalet because they had the road to it blocked off. We had to go find someone to let us in which wasn't easy. The chalets are run down and badly in need of repair and updating. The ground were not kept up. Weeds were growing up through the steps going into the chalets. Could be nice if someone would take care of it.

    Kim2016-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our family was extremely happy with the experience. It is located in a campground that is being renovated. This worked well for us but if someone was looking for a house-like setting they may be disappointed. It was rustic. I hope we get an opportunity to come back when the campground and the pool are renovated and operational. There is great potential at this site!

The Cut In The Hill Chalets is a relatively unknown gem in the Ross, Hocking, Jackson and Vinton County region. The majestic, mature forest make it a perfect week long or weekend getaway! Our three chalets are surrounded by hundreds of acres of tall hardwood trees, hills and valleys. Total seclusion! Wellston & Jackson Ohio are the closest towns. There are a lot of small local craft, art shops and Amish communities in the area as well as great places to eat! Most are locally owed & operated.
  • This was the best place I have ever been to. Loved the location. Fireplace, jacuzzi and trekking. Beautiful home. I would definitely go back again.

  • In addition to her wonderful hospitality, Mary's house is beautiful! Very comfortable and cozy with thoughtful touches such as a guest book and local travel tips and history. She also provides great Mickey Mouse waffles and also options for a grab-n-go breakfast. Her house was very clean and the space provided to guests was even cleaner. She takes good care of her guests and I hope to stay here again soon :)

  • Mary and Greg were AMAZING hosts!!! They were so kind and welcoming to my husband and I as we arrived into their home after a long day in the car. They have a beautiful house on a quiet street. Lots of land, a beautiful deck to enjoy the sunset (although we arrived after dark and weren't able to see it :) the space offered to us was a master suite with all the amenities we were looking for! Cozy bed, attached bathroom with shower and fresh towels, tv with Netflix to relax and fall asleep to. In the morning Mary and Greg were kind enough to make us breakfast! Coffee, pancakes and fresh fruit! We felt like royalty!! Thanks again to this wonderful family! We will definitely look them up to stay again on our way through!!

A rural retreat located a short distance from the Appalachian Highway in Southern Ohio, this log home is loaded with modern amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. Get away from it all in a quiet farm setting. The house is just a short drive to Amish country, Serpent Mound and other family-friendly activities. Take a walk on the property or relax on one of the porches and you might see deer, turkey and other wildlife. Good for couples, solo adventurers and families (with kids and/or pets).
The log home, built in 2003, is a single-story structure with an all-wood interior. It's located in a very quiet area -- a great place to get away from the city (or the suburbs). There is no cable TV or internet. (Verizon, T-Mobile and probably other cellular services work here, though, and there's a TV with a Roku if you want to use your phone as a hotspot and stream video.) The house is wheelchair-friendly (ask if you have particular needs).
Pike County is quite rural. You'll be "in the middle of nowhere" -- a 10- or 20-minute drive to the small towns of Piketon, Waverly and Peebles. About 30 minutes to Portsmouth, Chillicothe, Wheat Ridge (Amish country) or the Red Barn (great venue for country music).
  • Place was amazing, very clean and had everything needed. Would highly Recommend and would stay again if I was in the area.

The Zen River Suite is perched on the rim of the bluffs overlooking the breathtaking Rocky Fork Gorge in the Hermitage Cabin. Hermitage is our most remote suites, yet they are located in the heart of the Highlands Nature Sanctuary, close to most of the trail heads and within walking distance of the Appalachian Forest Museum. Adult guests only.
The Hermitage is a cabin built onto the precipice of the 100-foot deep Rocky Fork Gorge in a deeply wooded setting. Hermitage offers two private suites for nature retreats of one or two people each – the Zen and the Eyrie – each suite with its own private deck and entrance. Hermitage sits well off the road and is isolated from the views of any other nearby residences. The interior of both suites is highly aesthetic and artistic in design, while the view outside the bedroom windows of both suites is truly spectacular.
Our lodges are located on a back road within the Highlands Nature Sanctuary. The Highlands Nature Sanctuary is the Arc of Appalachia’s oldest and largest preserve. The heart of the 2,500-acre preserve is the breathtakingly beautiful Rocky Fork Gorge, a 100-foot high steep-walled canyon renowned for its stunning rock formations, ancient white cedars, spectacular wildflower displays, grottoes, springs, and stone arches.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Woodland Altars this past weekend. The cabin was not super fancy, and hasn't been updated, but it had all the basic necessities we needed to cook and be comfortable for the weekend. The wood burning stove and free firewood provided were great! Although be careful because you can very easily turn the inside of the cabin into a sauna if the fire gets too hot. The cabin was clean overall, but there were a few dead bugs in the bathrooms, some mouse poop in a few locations, and the window sills were pretty dirty. Didn't appear to have been cleaned shortly before our arrival. The forest around the cabin was very nice. It has a very peaceful and secluded atmosphere and some great sights for hiking and bird watching. The cabin listed sleeping arrangements for 13 people (3 double beds, 3 singles, and 3 bunks). There were only sleeping arrangements for 7 people (2 doubles, 3 singles, and 0 bunks). So a couple guys ended up sleeping on the floor. Overall I really nice location. I would recommend this to others, especially considering the value.

  • A spacious rustic bunkhouse set in a wooded area. Pretty much as advertised. Must bring own bedding but other than that everything you'd need is there.

  • We arrived at 7 pm on a warm summer night -- the entire estate was locked up and we were in the middle of nowhere. What to do? We called the number on the form and got an answering machine--we were calling "after hours." WTF? So we parked the car and then I walked about 200 yards to "the office." No one was there. Now what? Would we have to drive for hours looking for a hotel room? So we decided to walk around a locked gate to the "chalet." Just then, by chance, a man drove in and opened a gate to go up to the chalet. We asked for another phone number. He gave it to us and said, "But you won't need it." We then drove a few hundred yards up the hill to the chalet and it was completely locked up! So we called the number that we were never going to need. The manager then sent someone back with the key. When the key came, I told the man who delivered it that I thought that we deserved one of our two nights for free as compensation for our ordeal. (That didn't happen.) The chalets are 1960s architecture and maintenance is hard to keep up with--some of the window screens are ripped, that sort of thing. Bring a mattress pad if you are fussy. The mattresses are a combination of box-spring and mattress. Everything is clean in the house, but expect a few critters - spiders etc. If you have a group of boy scouts, the place is ideal. Like the other reviewer said, bring your own food. Beer can be purchased about six miles away in Peebles.

  • This was a very nice and quiet area, at least at the end of May when we stayed there. The kitchen is fully equipped and since there are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity, make sure you bring something to prepare or grill. Overall, it an be a nice experience, if you remember to bring all the essentials with you.

    Evgenia2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great place with a wood burning stove. We had a car repair that was needed and they helped us get back on the road. Very quiet and secluded with plenty of room for site seeing.

    Nathan2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place was really cool! We had 11 people sleep comfortably, even with one twin bed missing. The location was great, there were tons of hikes right within the area of the cabin and it was very a close drive to the mineral springs and Serpent Mound. The kitchen was a good size with lots of seating. There's a little lake on the property but we just used the canoe rather than swimming in it. Basketball court was fun. The cabin definitely was "rustic", but I liked that about it.

    Alicia2017-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great location to take a break from the city.

    Chris2017-02-26T00:00:00Z

Quiet 12 acre farm in Ohio. I am 48, live alone, no drama here. 420 is fine, but that is it. I have two empty rooms to rent, I live in the front room. You will be able to use whatever you want, and you will have your own private bathroom. You can put your car in my garage, and your room will be right next to it in the mobile home. This is a working mans house, and it is a bit messy. If you need a brake job, or tune-up, I might help you with that too. Peace, Fred.
Riding, hiking, shooting, bonfires, mill wood...
  • Super nice host. This is what I was expecting for our day away for my 13 year old son and dog. I'm not a big fan of campsites where I have neighbors all around me who could be drinking too much or being loud while we are trying to sleep. We are early risers because we like hike and be active. This is a nice quite spot where you can either stay in the cabin or put your tent up. It was a great guy weekend and Fred was very accommodating. If your looking to get away and want to do some camping but want to have access to electricity and privacy this is a great spot. It is not a hotel and it is not a suburban home but it is a very nice private rustic spot where you can have fun and relax. I live in the suburbs and was trying to get away from that. This did the trick!

Enjoy Portsmouth Ohio's Boneyfiddle Historic District! Stay within walking distance of restaurants, events, shopping, and Shawnee State University. This is a fully furnished modern 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment with a private entrance. The nearly 1000 sq. ft. space boasts a galley kitchen open to the living room. Bedroom features include a king bed and walk-in closet. Washer and dryer access are on premises. This is a smoke-free, pet-free unit.
Portsmouth, Ohio is the childhood home of Roy Rogers. This cowboy themed space is a great place for you to call home during your visit to Portsmouth and the Historic Boneyfiddle area. The rustic finishes give an old west feel and the location provides convenient access to much of what the area has to offer.
This space is located in the Boneyfiddle Historic District which is right along the Ohio River in downtown Portsmouth, Ohio. If you enjoy the arts, take a stroll along the floodwall murals which depict the history of the area, see a show at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts on the campus of Shawnee State University, or see an exhibit at the Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center. Interested in shopping? The shops along Second and Market Streets offer antiques, clothing, hardware, and more. While there is a full kitchen for cooking your own meals, there are several locally owned restaurants (many within walking distance) if you want someone else to do the work. We enjoy what downtown Portsmouth has to offer and hope that you will, too.
  • This rental was exactly as described only better. Such a lovely space in a great little Ohio town that has some great history (you have to check out the murals in Portsmouth!). The unit was incredibly clean, accented perfectly, very quiet, and super easy to find. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

    Scott2017-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was very cozy, clean, and had lots of character in the details. We were pleasantly surprised by the apartment after we arrived. There wasn't much to the town itself and we ended up going to the grocery store for food.

    Nicole2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! Absolutely beautiful and well appointed in an historic area. Check in was basically effortless and Heather was very responsive to communication. I wish I could live here!! If you are in this area and you need a place to stay, this is the place.

    Kathlyn2017-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, right downtown, walk everywhere. Very trendy furnishings, decor. Lofting in the midwest! Perfect to get flavor of developing Portsmouth, Heather and Craig were very accomodating, got me right in. Highly recommend.

    Richard2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place a must stay. Take a good look around the apartment and see all the texture and different finishes in wood and metal. Wonderful and definitely will stay again when I pass thru.

    Diane2017-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this place! It is in a great location. Only minor complaint is no wifi but I was able to use my phone as a hotspot because I had a good signal.

    Denise 2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Simply put, Heather's apartment is one of the coolest places that I've stayed in. The cowboy theme is just plain awesome. I spent around an hour examining all the details associated with the theme, and it's obvious that so much attention has been put into creating the design of this apartment. It's very admirable. The amenities themselves, a king-sized bed, a huge tub, made for an extremely relaxing stay. There is no cable, but if you have screen mirroring, you can use that. Many local and lovely shops around, it's a very walkable town. If I ever cross Portsmouth again, I would be thrilled to stay here again.

    Dina2017-08-22T00:00:00Z

We have a rustic loft with a large inground pool, 3 Great Danes live on the property. The loft has a new queen size bed and there is a comfy sectional couch downstairs. Partial kitchen (with the exception of an oven), bath, washer and dryer. It's the perfect get away for couples, professionals, nature lovers, or anyone who needs a little rest and relaxation. My husband and I enjoy sharing our knowledge of the area and our town's history with our guests.
We are in the city but with 40+ acres we have privacy and are surrounded by mature trees, beautiful birds, deer, hawks, and other wildlife. My husband and I use the pool but for an additional fee you may rent the pool for complete privacy. The pool house is a loft with queen pillow top mattress and sectional couch with a full bath and kitchen. It can sleep up to 4 people, but isn't ideal for small children or elderly, especially if sleeping in the loft. There is a ladder to climb up in the loft to get to the beds. Our space is perfect for a romantic getaway or a nice alternative to a hotel if you are passing through town. The space is ideal for couples, solo travelers, or professionals traveling for business. We are very close to S.O.M.C. and Shawnee State University. Our Great Danes love to meet new people! We are 10 minutes from the Ohio River and have plenty of restaurants nearby. Hunting is forbidden here. Please note that we do get some stink bugs in the fall, it's part of living in our area and the country.
We are 10 minutes from the Ohio River and we go boating often in the warm months. We are also located near SOMC, Shawnee State University, the current Bypass project, and the A-plant. Portsmouth is a pretty town with a rich history. There were many stops on the Underground Railroad in our town. We also have the oldest operating brewery in the state of Ohio. There are beautiful murals on our floodwall by the river, and lots of locally owned restaurants. Our property is very private, you will feel secluded and be surrounded by nature. It is said that the French fur traders used to hide from the Native Americans on our land. There is a CVS, Wendy's, Chinese/Japanese restaurant, and a Pub less than a mile from our house. I recommend Yamato, the Portsmouth Brewery, and the Scioto Ribber. They are all great restaurants!
  • What a great experience, our 2 and 4 legged hosts were great! The beautiful Danes kept us all company as we relaxed poolside enjoying the hot summer days and nights. The pool house was immaculate and had a great vibe. This is just what we were looking for to get away and enjoy our anniversary. We will definitely be back again.

  • Rachel and Jack thank you so much for your hospitality, the Pool House was so much fun. We really loved hiking way up in your old growth woods. There were places there worthy of being on a movie set with the giant Beech trees, everything was so green. Loved your dogs with boundless energy too. Wish it was warmer the pool looked so inviting. I've never gotten to play music with an Airbnb host before, loved your guitar Jack and the chance to jam with my flute to it. We hope to come back another time indeed!

    Mark2017-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • What an enjoyable stay at Rachel's Airbnb! The setting was beautiful and the host was most accommodating. I'd recommend staying here for anyone who will be in the Portsmouth area.

    Russ2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel and Jack's poolhouse was great! They always made sure we had everything we needed and it was really relaxing. I'd definitely recommend others to stay here!

    Angela2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel and Jack are nice people. They had a plumbing problem in the guest house when we arrived, and Jack worked hard to fix it. When it was unable to be fixed during our stay, we negotiated with Rachel to use the main house bathroom and stay in the guest house at a reduced rate. The property was lovely and I imagine would be even more so in summer.

    Sarah2016-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • The pool house was as described and the hosts were helpful, friendly and accommodating. It was great having access to the pool! Their land is a little oasis in Portsmouth. This is one of the best stays we've had at Airbnb, and we've gone to Key Largo! We'd definitely stay again.

    Alison2016-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts! My only concern regards the loft & the ladder; some may have difficulty maneuvering it, especially for middle-of-the-night bathroom runs. (The couch is very comfortable for one person). The access is easy (7-10 minutes from town); the setting is beautiful and it's great with the pool & the woods.

The Church was built in the 1800’s. It’s truly one of a kind. It’s a very peaceful setting overlooking the countryside.
WE are 10 minutes from Kingston and 10 minutes from Chillicothe.
  • So "the sanctuary" is a charming, quirky old church. With that being said, I wouldn't recommend it for a long term rental (as we had done). It is decorated nicely, but the spiders and bugs downstairs were too much after a while. I was hoping for peaceful countryside but was disappointed that every time I turned around people were pulled up in the semi-circle driveway sitting for long periods of time. My husband ended up going out there several times and asking what they were doing: turns out they were using the wifi the owners made us pay $100/month for. The entire church was surrounded by a graveyard owned by the trustees so there was actually a funeral procession one Saturday. On several occasions the neighbors knocked on the doors to talk, and an auditor showed up to survey the property without our knowledge of appointment. We were supposed to stay one more month, but didn't because of the above problems and their lack of knowledge about using Airbnb (as we were their first tenants). Every month it was this big to do about paying-literally a 3 day process to get them to figure out how to send the offer. With that being said, it will be a cool place if they can get the quirks worked out.

    Katie2017-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a unique atmosphere, this is it. And old church converted into a condo and/or party room. It is very large and can accommodate large families or get togethers. We loved the headboards in our bedroom, they were church pews they had made to use as supports for the beds. The decorating and color schemes you chose were perfect.

Cabin #1 sits privately in the woods, view of lake, 2 docks w/swings in walking distance, fishing, boating, hiking, or sitting by the campfire. Finish up in the private hot tub. Families, Groups, or Couples!
  • This is a well-appointed and comfortable cabin The location is what makes this cabin truly special. It's very private, yet so very close to the lake and state park. We enjoyed eating at several local places over the weekend. Do NOT miss the home made Amish donuts at Four Mile Bakery and General store. Literally the best I've ever had. Bring cash though!

  • Deb and Randy were great! Beautiful cabin on the lake.

    Jacob2017-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was so peaceful and relaxing, exactly what we were looking for. The calm and quiet lake was just a short hike down the way. The sense of privacy with nature surrounding us was a great escape from a busy life. We would stay here again.

    Robert2017-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • We really appreciated Randy and his family given us instructions via cell phone when we got lost on the way in. They were very eager to offer suggestions for what to see and do. We enjoyed the hot tub, and the kitchen was so easy to use. The porch swing was so lovely and the whole house is so set back from everyone else--lovely. Amazing price for this house!

    Elizabeth2017-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great value and a nice place for any type of get away. I came here with a group of college-aged friends and had a blast. Didn't need or see Randy for the duration of our stay, but he made sure we had everything we needed (toilet paper, dish soap, etc). Hot tub was good, beds were fine. Best part about it was hanging out at the docks down by the lake. But be aware! The cabin is on a hill overlooking the lake, it is a short 5 min walk down a steep hill to get to the actual water. But don't let that deter you. Beautiful and secluded, this is a great place. Also - dont try driving up the driveway. It will tear up your car if it is low-riding. Just park in the grassy space at the bottom of the driveway. And bring your own ice - there is no ice maker in the freezer.

    Kim2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place rocks. Very secluded, which is nice. The cabin has a nice warm feeling to it. I would definitely recommend.

    Mark2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is nice, cozy and entirely a great fit for my family of four and our dog. Two bed rooms with queen beds and a living room and a kitchen and a full bathroom. We had a really nice time in the cabin and the hot tub. We went hiking in Lake Catherine State Park on two separate trails and it was fantastic hiking. Really beautiful and picturesque. Randy was very helpful and came down and fixed the water temperature in the shower as soon as he was called. Overall, a lovely experience.

    Richard2017-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cabin! Nestled into the woods with a nice, front porch view of the lake. We enjoyed an evening campfire and the hot tub as well. Cabin comes with Direct TV, DVD player, comfy leather couch & recliner, 2 beds, charcoal grill, linens, toiletry, paper towels, silverware, paper cups & bowls, pots, kitchen appliances, toaster, crock pot, coffee filters, coffee maker. It has all the basics you need to get you started. I would suggest bringing any preferred items from home though such as your favorite coffee, creamer, snacks, drinks, etc. We also brought firewood from home. We loved it here and appreciated the pet friendly listing. Our dog was able to join us for a small $10 fee which was wonderful! Lastly the cabin is located on the left side of the road just past the metal gate. The private drive up to the cabin itself is pretty steep. Our two wheel drive, small SUV struggled to get up but was able to make it! There is a landing at the bottom of the hill where multiple cars can park if needed. Highly recommend this cabin for your stay. Enjoy!

  • This is our second stay at the "Rustic Cabin," and this time we brought a friend! We love this place, and the hosts are simply fantastic! We enjoyed some farm fresh eggs from Mike and great conversation about the area! It is a great place to relax and get away from city life, reconnect with nature, and experience true peace and tranquility. The hosts will ensure everything is working well and communicate as needed. The cabin has a great view of the goat farm and is only about 25 minutes from amazing hiking, kayaking, fishing, boating, and casual walking (Lake Vesuvius). There are other bridle trails in the Dean Forest. You can stop in Oak Hill for your basic groceries at the Piggly Wiggly, and the hosts have a great guidebook of other restaurants should you not want to cook. The fire pit is large and the kitchen well-equipped. We cannot wait to return again. Thanks Mike and Angie!

  • We had a great stay. This was the perfect mini retreat for my significant other, my daughter, and me. Mike got a fire roaring for us upon our arrival and there was plenty of space for my little one to chase butterflies and run around. It was clean and had more cooking utensils than we expected, so it was easy for us to prepare our own meals. We didn't leave the cabin, but it was a lovely drive.

Located in the Boneyfiddle Historic District, downtown Portsmouth, this house is only a short distance from Shawnee State U., Southern Ohio Medical Center/Life Center, and most other points of interest. Deep weekly and monthly discounts and the conveniences and comforts of home (fully equipped kitchen and on-site laundry) make this a great option for you. The host usually resides on the premises, but guests will use the private, master bedroom, secured by a deadbolt lock.
Built in 1843, this house was once owned by riverboat captain Creed Milstead, who was the mayor of Portsmouth at the turn of the 20th century. This house has been well maintained and was once operated as a traditional bed and breakfast/extended stay unit.
-The neighborhood is very quiet, especially in the evenings. -There are relatively few residents on this street since the surrounding buildings are mainly used as courthouse offices and law offices. -The immediate neighborhood and the downtown area are great, safe places to walk, at any hour.
  • Extremely welcoming host.

  • Justin's AirBnB was better than we had hoped. It looked great on the site, but was even better in person. It's a wonderful house. Justin is very easy to work with. He responds promptly and accurately to all communications, and he was very helpful and accommodating upon our arrival and during our stay. We'll definitely be going back, and we highly recommend that you give this one a try.

  • Very nice my friend Justin is a very nice host and has a beautiful house.

    Steven2017-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Justin was a very friendly, very helpful host. Beautiful old house with historic details. Should have liked a longer stay.

    Polly2017-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • This historic house has thoroughly and lovingly restored by Justin and the former owners, so that it is a charming and comfortable place to stay. The front bedroom where I stayed is spacious, with an antique bed and a really good mattress and high quality sheets. Justin was an attentive and friendly host, very quick to respond to my texts and generous with the public spaces in the house, which include a sweet little backyard patio garden. As a musician and teacher, his dedication to his students and his fellow church and community members shines through his words and actions. I felt it was a honor to be his guest.

    Elizabeth2017-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • The host canceled this reservation 64 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

    Renee2017-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Justin is a consummate host. I arrived to find an immaculate room and house. All the amenities were top notch. Justin's communication with me was professional and very cordial. The room is spacious and well-appointed; there is a TV but I was too busy to use it. USB charging stations kept my electronics going. The stairs are a bit steep compared to modern houses, but are solid and have good footing. The house as a whole is charmingly decorated and within easy walking distance of virtually everything in Portsmouth. Restaurants, shops, a cafe and churches are minutes away by car or on foot. Portsmouth is picturesque, with some unavoidable decay in the downtown region. The floodwall murals are amazing; they are also just a short jaunt from Justin's house.

    Raymond2017-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • The room was exactly as advertised; spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. The Sleep Number bed was perfect for me. The alarm clock has two USB charging ports (very convenient for business travelers) and the ceiling fan was very quiet. Justin was a wonderful host; there was an assortment of coffees and breakfast items in the kitchen. All linens were of high quality and clean. Added to the comfortable surroundings was the experience of staying in a historic riverboat captain's house. Parking was easy and the place is way to find and close to everything in Portsmouth. I recommend it for business travelers, vacationers, and college parents visiting their children. I'm planning to stay here my next time in Portsmouth!

  • The cabin was so cute! A lot of love went into building it and you can tell. We enjoyed the secluded nature of this property, and this is the perfect getaway for anyone needing a break from city life. Virginia was a wonderful host and answered any questions promptly. Thank you again!

  • The cabin is utterly adorable. A lot of love went into building this little place, it was the perfect spot to bring a good friend and some good books. Ps- you will love the tap in the bathroom. It's the greatest little thing ever.

    Steph2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Place is amazing...remote and quiet. Comfortable seats for writing at the table (which I spent most of my hours doing). Next time I will have to stay longer and set aside time for playing croquet!

  • Ginger ‘s cabin is cozy and charming! Great place to get away from everything! We had a great time! Loved the cabin!

  • My husband and a view of his friends stayed at this cabin during a hunting trip. My husband could not say enough wonderful things about the place! They all had such a great experience! I have no doubt we will be returning.

    Adair2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Ginger's Cabin in the woods is such a treasure - perfect to relax and decompress! Be sure to get directions in because cell service is spotty at best. Cabin was well stocked and lovingly maintained. Perfect to read a book, build a fire and enjoy nature. Can't beat the price either!

    Eva2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Cabin had everything you need and everything that you don't! Recommend for couples.

Country, Amish built cabin in the Amish country. Enjoy a peaceful get away with beautiful scenery for a relaxing therapeutic stay. Although not in the heart of Amish Country you can still get a feel of the lifestyle. Amish shops can be found nearby but the drive to Amish villages is not far. Enjoy front porch setting while watching the Amish buggies pass by. Enjoy a wiener roast in the fire pit or just relax in this newly built cabin that rests in a tranquil location only 6 miles from town.
A couples get a way or a singles retreat. Pets are extra
3 miles from the Amish Bakery. 6 miles from Oak Hill or Jackson. 1/4 mile from Amish bulk food store. 1/4 mile from Amish animal feed store Troyer's upholstery. 3 miles from Jackson Lake State Park.
  • Our stay at Ronnie's cabin was practically perfect. The cabin is new, modern, very clean but still feels rustic and homey. Sitting on the front porch, watching the sunrise while listening to the distant sound of livestock and watching the Amish buggies clip clop by was simply magical. The location feels very remote yet Jackson is very convenient. We found excellent hiking with incredible views at Lake Katharine. Although we did not get to visit, there are a few local Amish stores nearby to visit. Ronnie's sister and brother in law were on site during our visit and were super friendly and gave us great info and tips on the area. I can't recommend Ronnie's cabin highly enough. Do not pass this one by!

  • My wife & I spent a weekend get-away here...and it was absolutely wonderful! • SECULSION: If you're looking to be 100% secluded, this might not be the place. However, it is actually more secluded than you might think. When I booked it, the photo shows the driveway from the street, and I wasn't sure how secluded it would be, but we wanted to be in the countryside so we went with it. Upon arrival, we noticed the elevation of the property and it has you sitting high enough above the road that you are unnoticed to car traffic from the front porch. Although, the occasional Amish buggy traveling much slower than a vehicle might spot you on the front porch. But if you choose to sit back by/behind the fire pit, you cannot be seen even from the Amish buggies. (Which truly aren't that often, but it's neat to hear the horse hooves trotting on the pavement) • THE SIMPLE LIFE + SCENERY: It was so peaceful. If you are looking for a taste of the "simple life" this is your place. You are literally within the Amish community and the landscape across the street has rolling hills and mature trees. There is an Amish Bakery very close that you can check out. Want a Campfire? Our host generously offered/provided wood. (Unfortunately, this trip, we were too lazy to start one even though we had every intention. =^D ) • ADDITIONAL NOTES: - We are not coffee drinkers, but if you are, they kindly provide a Keurig machine and the cups. - The place was clean, seemed newly constructed with wonderful flooring, and cozy furniture. You will be comfortable during your stay - My wife's favorite restaurant is Bob Evan's and we wanted to go to the original Rio Grande location which has the museum, history trail, and access to being close to farm animals. Only about 30m away. Don't judge!! Haha =^D

The Earthstar Lodge is located in the Highlands Nature Sanctuary. The Lodge is a state-of-the art monolithic dome house which sets off of a back road near two other lodging facilities. This lodge offers peace and quite and a break from modern technologies. Cell reception is not great in this area, we do not provide Wi-Fi in the lodges, and there is no cable. The Highlands Nature Sanctuary is a 2500 acre Nature Preserve featuring hiking trails, a forest museum and other lodging facilities.
The Earthstar Lodge is located in a state-of-the-art monolithic dome house with an artisan interior crafted out of native hardwoods. Its gently curving exterior melts into the landscape like the hobbit house of Tolkien fame. Earthstar is the bigger side of the dome located next to Toadstool Suite and Chanterelle Cottage. It features one bedroom and bath with an open full kitchen and spacious living area.
Your lodge is situated in the the Highlands Nature Sanctuary Preserve. We are located on a back road surrounded by wilderness with very little cell phone coverage. The Sanctuary is the Arc of Appalachia’s oldest and largest preserve. The Appalachian Forest Museum serves as the trailhead for two beautiful loop trails, also open everyday from April through October. Both of the trails wind into the Rocky Fork Gorge, offering splendid views of the geological scenery of the region.
  • Really wanted to use the beautiful fireplace. It would have felt more cozy ....and needed a radio for some music...

    Tammy2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place was great! We were a little skeptical after driving down the one way road and going past a few scary barns (it was night time when we checked in) but the place was amazing! The common area is huge, the bathroom was great (giant tub), and the whole property was beautiful. It appears that it used to be maybe two houses that were restored and combined with another house - they did a great job. Like it says in the description: it's in the middle of nature. Expect maybe finding a bug or spider and maybe wipe a few webs off the couch, but nothing more than you would expect. Make sure you download your music or movies previous to diving in because this place has minimal cell service (no worries if you need to make a call, service picks up after a quick 1 minute drive to get out to the main road), no wifi (only at the museum down the road - but its limited and no big downloads), and no tv (PS - these were all positives for us). It's a great quiet place to unplug and enjoy nature comfortably (my wife doesn't care for "ruffing it" - even she enjoyed herself). Civilization wasn't too far away for us to pick up a replacement for a forgotten toothbrush and toothpaste + groceries. We will definitely be booking this place again.

  • We had an outstanding weekend! The trails that we were able to have time for were amazing! In particular the trail that connects right to the property. The tub was perfect for soaking our exhausted muscles after hiking all day. The frogs and stars made for a beautiful nights under the Wisteria Vines. We brought our projector to watch movies above the fireplace and on the ceiling in the bedroom which was fun. I cant wait to return with my friends for a girls weekend.

  • The Highland’s Nature Sanctuary is someplace special. We were fortunate to discover it off-season, so it felt like we had the hundreds of acres all to ourselves. The dome house was comfortable and very clean. Overall, a splendid stay! Highly recommend it as an alternative destination to Hocking Hills or Red River Gorge.

  • First of all the house is large, beautiful, warm and comfortable. I was staying in town on business so the location of the house could not be beaten. It was only a short 2-block walk uptown where I needed to go. Tina baked muffins which i ate both morning with coffee from the kitchen which was also very good. I had my own bathroom complete with a shower and towels. There was even a robe for me if I needed it. I had my own TV in the room with cable. I had a station outside of my room with multiple types of coffee makers and various teas which was nice. The bed was a very large King-size mattress which was more than enough for me. To top it off there was free WiFi - everything I might possibly need was available to me. Completely satisfied.
