Aquarium
“Located 5 miles west of Atlantic Beach, this aquarium is a great place to spend a rainy day or to take a break from the hot sun. The Aquarium's expansive galleries can accommodate large crowds. But, if you like things a little quieter, consider the first two hours in the morning and the last two hours in the afternoon, which are not as busy as mid-day. Summer is the busiest time of year. Fall, winter and spring are great times to visit.”

Library
“Like I said, I'm a book loving nerd. This library is tucked away in the middle of broad live oak trees in the center of the island. It is cozy, a little dim and mysterious, and staffed with the quirkiest and friendliest folks. They keep a running gallery of local artists, and there is a second hand book shop for discarded or donated books. It benefits the library! There are computers available and a good selection of media to choose from. If you are a Carteret County local, you should pick up a good read! ”
