Riding Mill Holiday Rentals

Just booked in Riding Mill

We live in a small village in Northumberland, within easy distance of Hadrian’s spectacular wall, picturesque villages and castles galore. Our comfortable, self catering accommodation will provide all you need for a peaceful break within minutes of bus and rail links to Newcastle, Durham and the coast, and with beautiful country walks on our doorstep. Your suite of private rooms either side of the shared hall include a sitting room, double bedroom, well equipped kitchen/diner and shower room.
Our home is at the top of a quiet cul-de-sac and built on a low hill. The house is on two levels. We live upstairs and, years ago, adapted the downstairs as a "granny flat" for my father. All the guest rooms are on either side of the shared hall on the ground floor and are completely private.
Our village is a quiet, friendly community with a gastro pub 5 minutes walk from our house. There are many lovely walks in the surrounding countryside and along the River Tyne, all accessible from our house.

Derestreet cottage is detached holiday home set in the countryside close to Corbridge and Hadrian’s Wall in a very pretty part of this friendly unspoilt county. Yet close enough to Newcastle and Durham to enjoy a night out.
Dere Street Cottage has bespoke furniture throughout, hand-crafted by the owner who has a small furniture studio adjacent
Corbridge is an historic, pretty little market town with charming pubs and tea rooms, the perfect area for cyclists and walkers indeed. Roman forts can be visited along Hadrians Wall, Beamish museum for a step back to the more recent past, or sample some of the local produce in the many deli and farm shops around the area. For energetic families, try Go Ape at Matfen Hall, a great adventure site for all ages. Roam free in rolling countryside visiting quaint villages, or head to the city's of Newcastle and Durham to see the Angel of the North and to visit the Baltic and other museums. Bustling Hexham is dominated by the medieval abbey (built from stone from the wall) and the Old Gaol depicts the Border Reivers Story. Don’t miss the Heritage Coast less than an hour away by heading north and sampling the fine castles and miles of golden sandy beaches. An ideal location to explore this wonderful county from inland to the coast.
  • Beautifully appointed cottage in a superb quiet location ideal for that get away from it all break. Handy for great Northumbrian countryside and easy reach of civilisation (Hexham; Newcastle etc).

  • Lovely quiet secluded location. Great walks straight from the door. Well kitted out apartment. The cupboard full of games went down well with the kids. Close to Corbridge which is a lovely town with all the amenities that you need.

  • A beautiful, comfortable cottage with lovely attention to detail. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay (even though we weren't holidaying). The hosts were extremely kind and accommodating.

  • Vivien's cottage was perfect for our family getaway, an ideal Northumberland base for day trips to Hexham, Newcastle, and Kielder Water. Corbridge itself has a great range of independent pubs, cafes, and bakery etc, although it is a 10min drive away. The cottage is perfectly clean and organised, and Vivien was on hand to help with anything we needed. Highly recommended

To the back of the property is a separate picnic area, with uninterrupted views overlooking the countryside surrounding Riding Hills Farm.
Perfectly formed, this compact annexe style cottage has been well designed and offers a separate kitchen, open plan living/bedroom with a small, en-suite shower room and is an idyllic retreat for couples. The converted farm building is super cute, and has everything you need for a lovely stay. It has been renovated to a very high standard and the kitchen houses a beautiful Everhot range cooker with 2 large ovens, cast iron hot and simmer plates with an integral grill. The cottage is all on one level, once you access the 3 steps into the building.
Riding Mill stands on the south bank of the Tyne, sixteen miles west of Newcastle and five miles east of Hexham. The village has a welcoming pub, the Wellington, which has a warm and cosy atmosphere, traditional British food with great service. Also within the village is Riding Mill station, dating back to 1835, where the original building still stands and is fully operational, connecting you along the Newcastle to Carlisle line. For a unique experience, why not book the ‘Passage to India Train’ which departs from Newcastle and passes through Riding Mill, to connect you to the award-winning Valley Restaurant at Corbridge.
  • Cottage was nice and cosy. Me and my partner spent a relaxing bank holiday weekend and really enjoyed ourselves! Really good location close to the pennines.

We are 3 miles from the historic village of Corbridge with its great shops, pubs and restaurants, one and a half miles from Hadrian's Wall, 20 minutes from airport and 25 minutes from Newcastle. This is a newly refurbished old stable which is a cosy hideaway in the Tyne Valley. Extensive walks are available on this working farm. It is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and dogs (sorry, no cats). Sadly owing to recent experiences we now need to charge £5 per dog per night.
  • Very homely, yet fine quality. The walks around the farmland were perfect for our dog. Alisa made us very welcome.

    Malcolm2017-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for a long weekend at this cosy little cottage and found that it was just as described, arriving on a Friday afternoon to find the log burner lit and a hot water bottle in the bed. Nice touches. The cottage was nicer than the pictures made it look. Everything we needed was available within the cottage and there was a plentiful supply of logs for the log burner which they happily topped up for us when we ran out. We would happily recommend the cottage to couples looking for a cosy get away.

    Matthew2016-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay to visit Hadrian wall. Very private. Much larger accommodation than expected. Ailsa very helpful. We were only there 2 nights, would be a great place for rest and relaxation not far from the lovely village of Corbridge. Would love to return some day.

    Jenny2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the standard of this property- spacious, comfortable & well equipped with many thoughtful touches. Very quiet, private location yet ideal for visiting Corbridge a few minutes away by car & all things Hadrian's Wall. Hosts friendly but non-intrusive.

    Sue2017-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Alisha's cottage was exactly as described and so much more in person. It made for a lovely weekend break and we didn't want to leave. In such a scenic location, quite and tranquil yet a stones throw away to the beautiful village of Corbridge. The perfect weekend getaway. Ailsa's had the log fire burning on arrival which kept us nice and snug, even a hot water bottle on our bed. A few basic essentials in the fridge such as milk which we weren't expecting. The bathroom and bedroom were lovely. The kitchen very well equipped. Honestly an amazing cottage with a special and peaceful feel

    Sinéad2017-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautifully decorated, well-appointed and spacious cottage on a farm. Its a quiet location with lovely views of the surrounded countryside and only a few minutes drive from Corbridge. The kitchen had everything we needed and the furniture was all comfortable. Would definitely stay again if revisiting the area. Many thanks Ailsa and Ben.

    Peter2017-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location, the cottage is much larger than expected and the photographs do not do it the justice it deserves, there is a lovely relaxed vibe and very tasteful décor. The cottage is beautifully presented with the individuality of the owner shining through. We had a wonderful couple of days and would highly recommend Stable Barn to anyone considering a visit to the area.

    Richard2017-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great, comfortable accommodation with all needs catered for. Beautifully decorated, with home comforts. The log burner made the main room very warm and cosy. Constant hot water. There was a hairdryer, towels and bits of toiletries available to use. However we did take our own. Dogs are allowed so we were able to take ours with us. Good location for getting out and about in the car. We visited Durham on our way up there and visited Corbridge and Hexham during our stay where we found some great walks. We dined in the Duke of Wellington at Newton, The Wheatsheaf in Corbridge and the County Hotel in Hexham, all of which were dog friendly. I would recommend this accommodation.

Situated in the heart of Northumberland, The Old Forge offers a stay in a converted Forge dated 1840. You will stay in the Master bedroom with Kingsize bed and its own ensuite. The room is comfortable and cosy with shutters on the windows. The property has two beautiful peacocks, but are kept in their pen during your stay. The Old Forge is situated on a main route into Northumberland with easy access into both the countryside and Newcastle. There tends to be some traffic noise at peak times.
The living room has an exposed fireplace with a log burner, very cosy on these colder nights! There is a mezzanine level which overlooks the living room. The property offers 2 additional bedrooms (one with ensuite and both with 2 single beds) for big groups if required. Please ask for more info and prices.
Stocksfield and its surrounding areas boast a beautiful countryside, all whilst being a 20 minute car journey from the city of Newcastle. Hadrians Wall, the Northumberland coast and Kielder Water are all within reasonable driving distance. I am a local so anything you want to know about the area I can help you with.

West Fell Cottage combines the benefits of rural tranquility and beautiful views across the Tyne Valley with its proximity to the picturesque village of Corbridge situated only 1 mile away. It is also within easy reach of Corbridge Railway Station, Hexham, Hadrians Wall and Newcastle Airport. This recently renovate cottage has a wood burning stove and spa bath and benefits from a spacious garden with patio and BBQ.
Our timber frame cottage was originally built in the 1880s as a farmhouse and retains many of its original features. A recent renovation has transformed the cottage into a modern, light, airy space with large open plan living area. The addition of insulation, central heating and a wood burning stove also ensures a cosy retreat. The private south facing garden looks out onto sheep pastures containing the site of a possible roman fortlet. To the north there are expansive views of the Tyne Valley. We have a number of old farm buildings adjacent to the cottage but these house only a few chickens and our logs, it is not a working farm. You can keep bikes safely in one of our locked sheds. At the bottom of our garden there is a bridleway with easy access to some lovely circular walks, runs and traffic light cycle rides to the likes of Blanchland and Allendale.
Corbridge contains many independent shops, character pubs, restaurants and tearooms. Hexham only 4 miles away hosts a 12th Century Abbey, independent traders and three supermarkets. Tynedale Rugby club is only a short walk away and hosts events such as the annual beer and music festivals. We are well located for Hadrian's wall, Allendale Banks, Keilder Water and many National Trust and English Heritage sites.
  • Lovely cottage with lovely hosts. Away from stress and city life with nature and wildlife outside your doorstep. Nice open fire and a fully equipped kitchen makes this a perfect location for a nice and quiet weekend/vacation

The cottage is in the village centre, bustling during the day and quiet at night. The bus stop and train station is within walking distance as are family-friendly activities and great pubs and restaurants. You’ll love the cottage because of the cosiness, the location, and the people. It is great for couples, families (with kids), and small groups, especially those looking to explore Hadrian's Wall, Northumberland and Newcastle-upon-Tyne. (Will consider shorter stays, please just ask.)
The cottage is a old stone built building and has a large Lounge and large south facing kitchen and dining area with french double doors onto the rear yard. The shower room is off to the side of the kitchen dining area. The main stairs lead to a large main bedroom with King Size bed and a second bedroom that has two single beds that can be joined to form another King Size bed. The lounge has a wood burner which can be used, wood is provided for a couple of fires.
You'll be made to feel very welcome by the residents and shop keepers of Corbridge. Access to the river is a two minute walk away and there are many independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, all within easy walking distance. There is a green grocers, butchers and bakers all within a couple of minutes walk and the local Coop is open until 10pm at night most nights.
  • Decent size rooms for a small place but well situated. Clean & cozy feel. Plenty of kitchen equipment if you want to stay in for meals. Possibly not so good for anyone with bad hips or knees as stairs to bedrooms are a little steep, (comment based on my mother visiting not on us staying). Kirsty & Mark missed us on arrival but had contacted us with easy directions for key collection then called by to check all was ok

  • We stayed at the cottage over the weekend for a friends wedding and had the most amazing time. The house is really cozy but spacious, the perfect country get away. • Lovely centrally located terraced cottage in Corbridge. Excellent amenities, location, style and hosts. Super comfy beds. A perfect Northumbrian get away stay.

    Charlie2017-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kirsty is a wonderful host and could not have been more helpful. The cottage was lovely, really comfy beds, and very clean. Corbridge is a fantastic location the scenery is superb especially down by the river. The Black Bull pub is a great place to eat and family friendly. The Grants bakers do amazing cakes.... they even got took back to London. We took the bus to Hexham then caught the Hadrian's Wall tour bus(main bus station) which operates a rover day ticket. The drivers were very helpful in recommending which sites for the walk and next bus times. My nephew who is 7years old loved it all and wants to know when we can go back. Would highly recommend this cottage & Corbridge as a place to stay.

    eva2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for two nights whilst attending a graduation at Sunderland and it was the perfect solution to the expense and unsociable aspect of having to book a number of hotel rooms. The house is in a beatiful location at the end of a quiet road and is surrounded by large mature gardens and woodland which was especially loved by my young daughter who is being raised in a concrete jungle! The interior downstairs is a little dated but in no way detracted from the enjoyment of the stay. The bedrooms appear recently refurbished and are very nice and comfortable. The beds especially were fantastic and I personally found then some of the comfiest I gave experienced. Absolutely zero nouse or light pollution in the area. We didnt see much of the local area but there is a large CO OP supermarket a couple of miles away where we could stock up for a wonderful BBQ and grab a few cheap bats and balls to play in the garden. Arrival was smooth and without issue and a nice bottle of wine waiting in the kitchen was a lovely touch. We experienced a minor unforseen issue during our stay but Kirsty was immediately on hand to help out. Very much reccomended and will be sure to stay again if in the area!

We have recently retired from the building trade and my husband Neil has renovated one of our rooms so we can offer you a lovely place to stay. We have lived in Northumberland for our whole lives and know a lot of information about the area.
Corbridge is a very pretty village with lots of unusual tourist shops. It has six pub/hotels and numerous restaurants, including a Chinese, two Indians and an Italian. A lot of the hotels and cafes do breakfast. It is close to the market town of Hexham with its lovely abbey. We are immediately next to the large Roman site in the village which has a museum. The village is situated approximately five miles from the Roman wall and gives access to enable visitors to walk the wall itself which stretches 86 miles through some lovely countryside from Wallsend near Newcastle to the Cumbrian coast. There are several Roman forts along the wall near to Corbridge including The Chesters, Housesteads, and Vindolanda. There is a shuttle bus which runs May to October which walkers of the wall can use to return to their car. Corbridge is set in the beautiful Northumbrian countryside. A county that has more old castles than any other in England including Alnwick Castle (setting for the Harry Potter movies), Warkworth, Bamburgh to name just a few. You have access to the beautiful Northumbrian coast, the many National Trust houses such as Cragside, and Wallington Hall, the city of Newcastle and the Scottish Borders. You can also visit Holy Island and it's Lindisfarne priory. Your hosts can supply details for any of these visits. We are also 10-15 minutes drive from the popular wedding venue of Healey Barn and 10 minutes drive from the wedding venue of Matfen Hall.
  • A lovely place to stay. The room is immaculate and very comfortable. Sybil is a great host - very helpful and friendly. It is a short walk to the centre of Corbridge with various places to eat. Highly recommended - will definitely stay there again if we are in the area.

  • Sybil and Neil are fantastic hosts! Their house is a little hard to find, so make sure you get directions from them. They are incredibly fun to talk to and they know a lot about the area and its history. The house is a short walk from town and from the Roman site at Corbridge. Definitely had a wonderful time!

    Sophie2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • I have been visiting Corbridge for many years and Sybil's place is by far the best I have stayed. Cosy and warm, and beautifully decorated. Easy access to bars, restaurants and shops. Amazing hosts who know just how much space to give you if you need, but equally lovely and sociable. You really do get a warm Northumbrian welcome. I could not recommend this place more highly.

    Andrew2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful room in a gorgeous house! Sybil and Neil were the perfect hosts and very helpful. The house is about a 5 minute walk from the centre of the village where there are lots of nice restaurants and pubs and it was the perfect place for a weekend break

    Emily2017-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • The house was lovely, well decorated clean and friendly! We only stayed the night before the Great North Run but we could have stayed so much longer. The location is brilliant too, only 20mins to Newcastle but far enough out to give the country village field. Corbridge had some really nice food options, pub grub, Italian and all the inbetween! il piccolo was a great Italian restaurant and some really nice people! Which Sybil set the tone for as she was lovely from checkin to check out! Highly recommended

    Tarek2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Sybil & Neil were very kind and helpful and made our trip so much easier. People you can rely on.

    Nigel2017-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • If it was possible to give Sybil and Neil 6 stars, we would. Sybil was hugely helpful and accommodating and kindly waited up for us as we were driving from London. The room was beautiful, immaculately clean and very, very comfortable with very high quality linen and towels normally found in five star hotels. We loved getting to know Sybil and Neil and can't recommend them enough! Xx

    Paula2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is probably one of the best Airbnb homes we have stayed in both the UK and USA. Sybil and Neil are extremely friendly hosts and the room provided is excellent. We cannot recommend this home highly enough.

Dilston Mill is a self-serve B&B in a converted historic watermill on the banks of Devils Water in Northumberland.
Dilston Mill is a self-serve B&B in a converted historic watermill on the banks of Devils Water in Northumberland. This unspoiled and uncrowded area is one of England's best kept secrets and the Mill has been a witness to its dramatic and colourful history back to the Middle Ages with links further back to Roman and Anglo-Saxon times. Dilston Mill is in a secluded but convenient position. It is only one mile from Corbridge and two from Hexham. These charming and historic towns with Roman remains and ancient churches also offer excellent dining and other amenities, including a theatre, cinema, swimming pool and country park. Dilston Mill is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty with a rich heritage from the Romans of Hadrian’s Wall to medieval castles, bastles and pele towers of the untamed 17th century Reivers and classic country houses and gardens. Dilston Mill’s location and atmosphere provide a special experience: a 'slow' bed and breakfast with peace, quiet and low key use of resources. Dilston Mill has been in tune with current ‘Green’ practices long before they became popularly promoted. The Mill is located on a public footpath, linking to local countryside walks. Close to both bus and train, you also have the option of going out and about while leaving the car behind. The Mill is also close to all modern sporting (golf, fishing, watersports, pony trekking, cycling, walking) and leisure amenities and the vibrant entertainments, nightlife and shopping of Newcastle, Gateshead and the Metrocentre. In addition, the world heritage site of Durham Cathedral and Castle, Beamish outdoor museum, Kielder lake, coastal beaches, hills, moorland and the Scottish borders are all within easy reach on modern, often uncrowded, roads. And if you venture off the main roads, you will probably have the place to yourself! Dilston Mill visitors are special; there is only one party at a time in each of the B&B Suites. The 'Private Suite' for 2-4 persons includes stylish and comfortable double and twin bedrooms, a large shower room and a cosy and relaxing breakfast room with table and chairs and kitchen area, all overlooking the river. Breakfasts are self-serve or cooked for flexibility. (Cooked breakfasts are available on request) The Suite is ideal for couples, friends and families. In a beautiful riverside position, Dilston Mill can be your relaxing base with fresh fruit, teas, coffee and biscuits always available. It’s a great place to ‘get away from it all’, but there is a wi-fi connection. The flexible but substantial ‘self-serve’ breakfasts are appreciated by visitors and will set you up for active days of sightseeing, shopping, business and fun. If you wish, information and suggestions can be provided to help make your visit special.
Beautiful, uncrowded, convenient cultural and leisure activities with friendly people.
  • Super beautiful location. Susan makes your stay realy comfortable. Thanks a lot, we had a great time.

    Frederique2016-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • A beautifully located place next to a little stream. The lovely garden has a remnants of a medieval building that itself was probably built from stones from the roman time! The suite itself was comfortable, quiet and pretty. All amenities were available and there were many personal lovely touches from the posh biscuits to the beautiful postcards. I booked the suite for my family and they were extremely pleased with it. Susan looked after them so well and all organisation, check in etc. went very smoothly. A lovely stay and excellent value!

    Anna2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Susan welcomed us with a very warm greeting, showed around this beautiful property and the surrounding gardens are very picturesque. She offered us an amazing selection of breakfast choices. The food was excellent. I will definitely be staying again.

    Benn2016-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Dilston Mill for 6 nights - July 1- July 6 . Susan the Mill owner was such a wonderful host! The Mill is in a stunning river setting with lush grounds surrounding the property. It is all about the river Susan said and it truly is: you can hear it, you can sit by it at several special location, and you can take pictures from so many angles. It's breath-taking. The B&B is wonderful -rooms that are comfortable, homey, and a common room where breakfast was served but also a place that you can sit and relax as a family. We were 4 and had the full top level of the Mill. It was truly our home away from home- Susan not only made each day special for us with either a hot English breakfast or a lighter fare- our choice. It was delicious! We settled in and spent our days traveling the area then back to enjoy the property. Coming back "home" each night was a treat! Location is perfect between Corbridge and Hexham with easy access to the highway. We felt at home and were treated with such joy, we have made a new and cherished friend in Susan. We would come again and know we would enjoy it the same.

    Terri2016-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Dilston Mill. It's perfectly located, an easy drive to many attractions in the North East. Lot's of great restaurants close by in Corbridge and Hexham, and it's an inexpensive cab ride if you'd prefer to enjoy a drink or two with dinner. Susan is a perfect hostess, very knowledgeable and helpful. We felt very much at home in the private suite.

    Scott2015-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely first rate Airbnb experience - great location, Susan is a warm and welcoming host who goes out of her way to make your stay enjoyable - highly recommended!

    David2015-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, wonderful garden and a hostess who spoils you - what more would you want?

    Lawrence2017-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a delightful stay in Susan's beautiful mill. The rooms are spacious and clean, with tasteful decor. The gardens are simply stunning. We felt that the Mill was very well located between Corbridge and Hexham, it was also a short drive to Newcastle centre. Susan provided various delicious breakfast options. Thanks for a lovely stay :)

  • Carole was a lovely host who couldn't do anything more for us. She was respectful, wasn't intrusive and such a lovely person. A beautiful home in a beautiful location. Such a variety of food to choose from for breakfast too. Thank you for a lovely stay.

  • Carole and her little dog, Floss, gave us a warm welcome to their home. As host, Carole was concerned that we should be comfortable and our every need met, which she did beyond our expectations. The room was large and bright, with simple but inspired furnishing, the bed comfy and the bathroom close by. For breakfast we had a great choice of fruit, yoghurt, juice, cereal, toast, croissant and hot tea. Added to which was the delight of chatting to a fellow artist. The house was very easy to find, thanks to Carole's clear instructions and the location suited us for getting to Hadrian wall and the moors. Will definitely book again if we are in the area.

    Angela2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Carole put up a wonderful nights stay for me. I could tell that she'd gone the extra mile to provide me with comfort during my stay, this included a lovely comfy bed in a spacious private room, a brilliant breakfast and plenty of tea! I should also mention that the views from every room are absolutely inspiring! Instructions to find her house were clear and I had no issues in finding the location. She catered for my needs brilliantly and would always offer anything extra, should I need it. In conclusion, I had a lovely stay with Carole and would definitely recommend her to anyone who needs a place to stay near to Newcastle. Very good connections for trains and other transport too!

They were very generous in making us a lovely breakfast with coffee each morning and even prepared us tea and scones on arrival. We were travelling with our one year old daughter who was made to feel especially welcome by our hosts. They were even happy to entertain her whilst we enjoyed our breakfast which we were all grateful for. We would strongly recommend a stay with Carol and Les. The guest room is immaculate and very comfortable with en suite facilities. Thanks so much to a lovely couple for making all three of us feel so welcome.

  • Though I did not actually manage to use my booking with Nigel, his place looks lovely and both he and his wife/partner were very helpful and thoughtful offering directions to their place before I was due to travel. They even offered an extra bed for my nephew. At the last minute my nephew and I found that we were able to stay with the rest of our family who all had accommodation nearby. It's a lovely part of the country with lots to see and do and I'd recommend it to anyone!

The garden and the fields are creating a really calm and inspirating surrounding to this cosy and lovely place. Hadrian's wall, Castles, and beautyful nature cuddles this little island of peace. Refurbished to a high standard and set in a beautiful rural location. Looking out over a Georgian courtyard, it has its own lawn & great views of gardens & stunning countryside. Perfect for couples. Peace & quiet, relax, unwind. Near to the market town of Hexham with its majestic Abbey, ancient villages of Blanchland and Corbridge with shops, pubs, cafés and galleries, Hadrian’s Wall, Slaley Hall golf and spa, Derwent Reservoir sailing. Good network of public footpaths nearby.
The Loft is very comfortable with a super-king sized bed (no option for that on the AirBnB settings!), high quality bedding and towels and Sophie Allport china and accessories. Kitchen basics are provided (coffee, tea, pint of milk, sugar). The Loft has Freeview TV, DVDs, board games, books and a Bluetooth speaker. There is also a secure bike store/drying room below, for which we will give you a key. You have access to your own large lawn, with garden table and chairs provided, which also features a Gin Gan (an old wheelhouse, originally built to enclose a horse mill). We are 30 minutes from Newcastle, 25 minutes from Newcastle airport and 45 minutes from the stunning Northumberland coast. Access is via a private drive. A great retreat/hideaway.
  • This was the perfect place to spend my 40th birthday. We arrived to find a card and box of chocolates - a lovely surprise - waiting on the table, and this set the tone for a wonderful weekend. The flat is gorgeous, beautifully furnished and has everything you could need, and more. I have to make special mention of the huge soft towels (yep...I'm definitely 40 :) and enormous comfy bed. At night, the absence of light pollution transforms the sky into a canvas of scintillating supernovas, auroras, galaxies and planets. It's very nearly as good a view as from the nearby observatory at Battlesteads, which we would highly recommend. Also worth considering are trips to Kielder Forest and the Northumbrian coast, but we probably don't need to tell you that if you're already considering this location. Oh, and we had a superb dinner at the Feathers pub, about 20mins drive away. And it would be remiss of me not to mention the neighbours - 2 horses -1 very inquisitive and the other rather shy, but both enchanting in their own way. Thanks Georgina! Andrew & Gem

  • If the comfort of the apartment, the beauty of the rural surrounding and the warm hospitality of the host weren't enough, the whole of Northumberland, with is towns and moorland, its myriad walks, its breath-taking coastline and huge skies add to making this a destination of rare delight. I am rested and uplifted as a result of my stay in this charming home.

An exceedingly spacious pet friendly room with double bed, large ensuite with walk in shower and stunning views over Northumberland and the Tyne Valley. Off road parking and bike storage is available in our secure garage. The village is home to the renowned "Feathers Inn", the Northumbria Gliding Club and we are within 3 miles of the Rivers Tyne and Derwent. We are well situated for exploring Newcastle, Durham and Northumberland. Exceedingly rural but only 20 minutes to Newcastle and Durham.
4 bedroom country house, tastefully decorated in a Farrow & Ball colour palate with Fabrics by Voyage. Warm and comfortable, the house has been a renovation project. Our furniture pieces range from contemporary to georgian oak and Rebecca thoroughly enjoys collecting and restoring pieces. Our artworks range from Yorkshire watercolours, to Northumbrian seaside views and drawings by local animal artists ....... You'll also find a great many references to Labradors, Rebecca's favourite dog. To the south of the property we have an enclosed private garden with out door seating. The garden is a work in progress and is due to undergo a redesign in 2018. You are welcome to sit out and enjoy the clean Northumbrian air. Take a look at our Instagram page - "thehouseuponthehill" - and follow our journey!
Quiet and rural with stunning views, you will not be disappointed! We are well located for out door enthusiasts with the gliding club, numerous cycling routes (we are located on the Lead Road cycle route), fabulous walks (including Hadrian's wall) and for those interested in angling we are within 3 miles of the R. Tyne and R. Derwent which both offer day tickets. Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club is approximately 20 minutes by car.
  • The house is gorgeous with beautiful views. There isn't much in the village but it is not far from shops etc. by car. Rebecca was very welcoming and accommodating with our two young dogs. Room was beautiful and spacious, had room for xl dog crate and sofa without feeling cramped. Would definitely recommend.

  • Rebecca was a very relaxed and welcoming host. Her local knowledge and advice was really helpful in finding great places to visit. The village pub is only a few minutes' walk. If you are planning to spend the evening there, arrive before 20:00 or telephone to say you are coming. The bar man gave us this advice, as they will close early if empty at 20:00. The food there is very satisfying local produce and the staff extremely friendly. There is plenty to see and do in the local area: stately homes, gardens, antique shops, country walks, country pubs or all the attractions of a city in Newcastle.

  • Rebecca's place was gorgeous and she was a really relaxed and accommodating host. The room was really lovely, with en suite and bigger than it looked in the pictures. Rebecca's place is great value for money, thank you for having us :)

A luxurious 3 bed cottage in beautiful grounds handy for the village of Corbridge and 2 miles from the historic market town of Hexham. Hidden down a short track at the edge of the hamlet of Sandhoe, it is a truly tranquil spot.
Peartree Cottage lies on the south side of the Tyne Valley just above the village of Corbridge and 2 miles to the historic market town of Hexham. Hidden down a short track at the edge of the hamlet of Sandhoe, it is a truly tranquil spot. Situated in just under an acre of gardens overlooking a wild flower meadow, this three bedroomed cottage is in one of the most attractive areas of Northumberland but is also handy for some the best pubs and restaurants in the Tyne Valley. Just a couple of miles from the Roman site of Corstopitum, the cottage is in the heart of the key walking areas in the region with the Roman Wall just seven miles away. The ground floor is open plan dining, kitchen and sitting area with a wood burning stove which combined with underfloor heating makes the cottage cosy even in winter months. There is a downstairs twin bedded bedroom with an en-suite bathroom with both a shower and separate bath. Up the spiral staircase is a twin bedded room, a double bedroom and an upstairs bathroom.
It's a very quiet idyllic spot.
  • Great fishing trip, enjoyed by all! Thank you

  • Extremely well-equipped and decorated - and very comfortable for four adults. Glorious part of the world - totally peaceful and yet minutes from Corbridge, Hexham and Hadrian's Wall.

  • Helen's place was so lovely and relaxing. Everything we needed was there. A stunning place that makes us want to visit again. Beautifully decorated and perfect layout. Location stunning and everything lovely and clean. Would be happy to return here. Thank you for a relaxing holiday.

  • Really enjoyed our visit but glad we didn't need wifi!

    Ben2017-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location for country walks and pottering around the local area... Lovely place which is well equipped for self catering but also close enough to a number of good restaurants and pubs. It was still cooler weather and we loved having the log burning stove to sit around in the evening. Ignore your Satnav and rely on Helen's directions.

    Kevin2017-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely amazing time at Helen's cottage- the set up is fantastic with a lovely open plan kitchen and living room area with a great indoor log burning stove. While the cottage is in lovely countryside, it is also close to Corbridge which is really nice place to have a walk around and go for afternoon tea or a pub lunch. Everything was as described and if anything the pictures don't do the place justice! We had a really great weekend and wouldn't think twice about recommending it. Thanks again for all your help in making our stay so enjoyable!

Dilston Mill is a self-serve B&B in a converted historic watermill on the banks of Devils Water in Northumberland.
The 'Studio', for 2 persons, is a spacious room with a large en-suite bathroom (bath and shower), kingsize double bed, table and chairs and kitchen area stocked with a generous self-serve breakfast for flexibility. (Cooked breakfasts are available on request). The ground floor location and separate entrance provide easy access. The Studio is ideal for couples. Please phone or e-mail for ONE-NIGHT booking availability. Please phone or email if your required date does not appear to be available; there may be a suitable alternative.
