“Chiado is an elegant and bohemian neighborhood in Lisbon, between Bairro Alto and Baixa Pombalina. It is frequently compared to Paris’ Montmartre district, rebuilt after it was destroyed by a fire in 1998. The most famous streets are Rua do Carmo, which houses the ruins of a church by the same name and Rua Garrett, in the centre of Chiado. The square and its surrounding streets are full of famous cafés, theatres and museums. ”

“First impressions of this Avillez Corner are quite good. The space is quite interesting, well sectioned and decorated, with lighting that makes it cosy even when full. The service is also quite good and efficient. The good wine list and especially cocktails, always a good solution, albeit with slightly above average prices.”

“This pedestrian street better known as “Pink Street,” since an urban renewal project in 2013, when the pavement between the terraces, bars and clubs was painted pink. It has become one of Lisbon’s most popular destinations at night, and is also an "open-air art gallery." This street is now the center of Lisbon’s nightlife. The New York Times even placed it among its 12 favorite streets in Europe. It’s a place that attracts locals and tourists, who stay drinking outside or dancing at a club until dawn.”

Museum
“For decades Old discos like Tokyo, Rotterdam and bars like Copenhagen or Viking were open until morning. Slowly, things started to change. Tokyo and Jamaica became trendy and Pensão Amor was considered the “Next big thing!”. Like a freight train, Cais do Sodré was renewed: small cosy places like Sol e Pesca or Pensão Amor were getting lots of good buzz. The area is crowded with people leaving Bairro Alto as bars close earlier there while here some of them are open until morning! It’s crowded even on weekdays. Everything has changed for the good. On top of that, Rua Nova do Carvalho was painted pink, so you can’t miss it! That’s the revenge of the ugly duckling.”

Point of Interest
“This is not a typical Portuguese or traditional space. Have you heard of “Ferrero Rocher de foie gras” or “silly potatoes”? Here you can find them, as well as caipirinhas that are eaten and other dishes that will surely leave you surrendered to the concept. With an advantage: everything is served in mini-doses so you can enjoy several!”

“Amazing bar for having a glass of wine and enjoying some meat, cheese or bread as well as an impressive food menu. The arches above are littered with wine bottles and the atmosphere is fantastic. The service was attentive and friendly. Would 100% recommend to anyone visiting Lisbon and I am looking forward to going again! ”

Theatre
“Teatro São Luíz heater opened in 1894, under the name of Teatro Dona Amelia. Nowadays, Teatro São Luís is one of the most important Lisbon art venues. In 1998 it was renovated and expanded and in 1990 it was granted by the city of Lisbon to the Chiado Theatre Company and Mario Viegas, who has been developing various cultural activities ever since.”

“Pizzas, Pasta & Risottos: pizzas are excellent! Cooked in wood oven with extra-fine mass. It’s called pizzeria but it’s essentially a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant always with a touch of one of Portugal’s most acclaimed chefs, José Avillez.”
