Plaza
“La Plaza del Mercado in Santurce is a slice of typical Puerto Rico. Located across the Baldorioty de Castro Highway (on the other side of Condado) at Dos Hermanos and Capitol Streets in San Juan's blue-collar neighborhood, the Santurce marketplace is a quaint square with a colorful central building fronting giant avocado sculptures. Inside is a traditional market where, during the day, you can find fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other local produce. Around the market, fondas, or local eateries, and bars line the plaza. From Thursday to Sunday, La Placita transforms into a crowded, lively, and boisterous block party.”

“You will arguably find the best Puerto Rican food in this spot. They have various locations so feel free to locate the closest one to you. Their "sister company", Cayo Caribe essentially serves the same menu. Feel free to locate whichever is closest to you. ”

Neighbourhood
“Historical neighborhood with forts, tours, good food, nightlife, shopping and cruise ship ports. The best parking in Old San Juan is in one of the two garages on Calle Recinto Sur, either Dona Fela Parking garage or Galeria Paseo Portuario garage. The streets are cobblestone and very uneven! Also, Old San Juan has many hills. The area is generally safe but be aware it is a known tourist area. There is an area on the north wall of Old San Juan called La Perla. It is featured in the Despacito Video but is not known as a safe or good area. There's not much to see there that you can't view from the wall of Old San Juan.”

“Plaza del Mercado, or La Placita as it’s more commonly known, is a traditional market during the day. It truly comes to life in the evening though, as the streets fill with people enjoying the many bars and restaurants that surround it. Visit La Placita in the evening (Thursday through Saturday are the busiest nights), and you’ll be treated to live music and dancing in the streets. Grab a bite to eat or a drink, then join in the fun … the festive atmosphere is contageous!”
