Park
“Situated along the Wallace River, Wallace Falls state park is excellent for hiking and enjoying nature to its fullest. It is 4.9 miles away, which is approximately 10 minutes by car. It is 1,380 acres. The state park is located on the west side of the Cascade Mountains with an entrance point one mile (1.6 km) northeast of the community of Gold Bar. The park features three waterfalls, three backcountry lakes, old-growth coniferous forests, rushing mountain rivers and streams, and the evidence of its logging history in the ruins of railroad trestles, disused railroad grades, and springboard notches in stumps (Wikipedia). ”

Zoo
“Okay, this is not anywhere near the Okanogan valley, but if you are driving over the Cascades via Hwy 2 (Stevens Pass) then you will be driving right be the biggest reptile zoo in the northwest, and it is worth seeing. Alligators (even an albino), lizards, really really big snakes, tortoises you can pet, a two-headed turtle (named Pete and Re-Pete) -- i regret having driven past it for 40 years. Put it on your en-route bucket list right now. ”

Optional meal after the trip Alpine Adventures whitewater rafting trips launch into the calm turquoise pools on the South Fork of the Skykomish River just above the the misty horizon line of the first rapid, Cable Drop. A few miles downstream lies the famous Boulder Drop rapid. Standing on the river bank next to Boulder Drop causes hearts to pound just looking at the thundering Class IV-V section of whitewater. When the river is at 7,000 cubic feet per second (CFS) or above, Boulder Drop becomes Class V and you need a great team with one of our expert Skykomish raft guides to lead you between massive house size rocks. We always stop and scout this rapid, as some guests may choose to walk around and be picked up downstream, especially at big water! Check out our Skykomish River rafting photos on Facebook. ”

Food
“It's not quite a dive bar and there's rarely many people there, but there aren't many places to grab a beer. The brewer will be the guy serving your beer and if you want, you can run around to the other side and buy yourself a bottle of coriander vodka as a souvenir or a night cap, your choice. They don't have food, but Rico's Pizza will deliver here.”
