“For many years Mark Israel’s plain glazed doughnut recipe was enough to draw crowds to this Lower East Side foodie destination, but more recent additions, like Mexican churros, house-made jelly filled doughnuts, and cake doughnuts have made Doughnut Plant legitimately legendary. ”

Bagel Shop
$
“The best bagels. The hand-rolled, wood-fired bagel sandwiches at Black Seed are actually easy to eat (they’re much smaller than their brethren), and for the most part, they’re great—particularly for those times when the only thing that will satisfy is a bagel sandwich. Favorites include: beet-cured gravlax, a basic tuna salad, Tobiko spread, and the egg salad.”

“Gorgeous place! Come here for desserts and sit in the dining room or outdoor patio. Get Vol au Vent if you are hungry and thank me later. It's mind blowing! ”

“My absolute favorite is a Slice of Brooklyn Blackout. If you’re a chocolate lover, you’ll definitely agree. As in cafe seating may be limited at times, take the slice home and eat at your own pace! ”

Bakery

“Kosher, vegan, and gluten-free, Erin McKenna is great if you have dietary constraints. Their cookies, muffins, cakes, cupcakes, loaf cakes, and donuts are done prettily in pinks, light blues, and greens. The loaf cakes are especially on point. They substitute eggs with fruit in their recipes, and I think that’s why their pastries are so phenomenal. You have to try the banana chocolate chip loaf cake, plus the pumpkin one. Both are so moist, so dense!”
