Holiday Rentals in Speightstown

Just booked in Speightstown

Lovely Blue Shells is a very comfortable and well equipped 2 bed 2 bath beach house, in beautiful Reeds Bay on Barbados' famous Platinum Coast. There's a large veranda overlooking the ocean with a gas BBQ, private beach access, a/c in all rooms, cable TV.
Lower Carlton is a quiet area, Blue Shells is located between the ocean and the main road that passes right by the sea in this area. There's not a whole lot of traffic but you can hear some noise in the bedroom that faces the road. The main attraction is lovely Reeds Bay, excellent for swimming, snorkelling, fishing, walking, jogging and more. Walk north or south for more great beaches. If you'd like a busy beach for a change, head to Mullin's for people watching, water sports and a beach bar. For food and drink in the immediate area there's a small beach bar, Wanda's, just a couple of houses south on the beach and the very local Outback Bar&Grill just south on the Main Rd, on the land side. You can buy fresh fish at the market in Weston, about 1,5 km south on the Main Rd, in Speightstown, 4km north, and sometimes right on the beach outside the house. Speightstown is a cute small town, time seems to have stopped in the '70s. But you find a large supermarket, Jordans, a pharmacy, a couple of banks, street vendors of great fruit and veg, an art gallery, small shops and a few nice restaurants. There's the Lobster Pot, Orange Street Grocer and Juma's in the upmarket section and Fisherman's Pub and Island Plates for local food and experiences. Little Bristol is a nice beach bar. Just north of S'town you find Port St.Charles and Port Ferdinand, both great resorts and marinas with good restaurants. If you head south from Blue Shells you'll get to the other West Coast centre, Holetown, where you find a couple of shopping centres and a larger supermarket, Massy's. In the upmarket shopping centre Lime Grove there's duty free shopping, bars, restaurants and a cinema. In H'town you find a wine store, Wine World and first class restaurants restaurants like Nishi, the Tides and beach bars like Surfside and Zaccios. There's also a 24hr medical clinic, Sandy Crest.

  • This is a four star house (for its price range) with a 2 * noise problem for people who don't like loud street noise). Communications with Michele were fine. Specific directions connected to our (Hidden by Airbnb) maps would have been helpful. We used the (Hidden by Airbnb) map system to drive around the island. Without it it would have been daunting. The property is as advertised with really only one unalterable deficit which may not be a deficit for everyone (according to Michele) which is noise from heavy road traffic. Kids, for example would probably have no probelm with the front bedroom and it was quieter on the weekend. The location right on the water with the huge lanai (covered deck area) was the strongest feature and what attracted us. However The road is very close to the house and traveled by many big trucks, buses and loud cars. It was so bad that friends who we'd invited to join us left after two days. This was a disappointment. They had to move to a less expensive part of the island and we only saw them once after that because they got rid of their car and didn't want to drive. .

  • We had a wonderful stay at blue shells. Michelle was helpful and met us at check in even though we didn't arrive until late in the evening. The house is in a great location and the porch and beach are wonderful. It is a truly special place.

  • Unacceptable!! The photos are not describing the reality. There are indeed good points such as the beach, gazebo and so on but as frequent travelers, we have never faced this kind of issue. We have been forced to rent another place and keep the first one for more than a week empty. The noise is MAINLY the reason of our disappointment, we could have accepted the lack of cleaning but my wife was forced to sleep with a headset (noise cancelation) and my son was not sleeping after 24hrs of travel. Moreover, as soon as we have explained our problems, the communication was reduced to the strict minimum. Michelle & Pia have to understand that we have saved money for a year to be able to pay such kind of vacations and we didn't like the lack of honesty. Also, as far as i understand, basis of Air B&B is to share guest house and/or to rent it directly but in our case, this is a business on which Michelle & Pia have different rent to propose... In addition and to conclude, even if they say that the house is "popular" (not in accordance with the price so), the neighbors are very noisy. 5:30 morning, music was extremely high but basically was not disturbing us as we were not sleeping either due to the road! Around the house seems to be a garbage were neighbors are throwing away all what they have. Our son found a sharp knife in the send while swimming !!!

  • Loved our week at Michael's beach house. The house was roomy and equipped with all we needed. We were very happy to have a washer and dryer available as well. The large covered beach front deck was just the best!! Or the view was the best!! Or the beach sand and shades of blue water was the best!!! We four adults made life long memories and would definitely recommend we hope to go back again. Enjoy!

  • Michele's place is absolutely fantastic. She couldn't be nicer or more accommodating, especially given the short notice. House is the ideal beach house and is located on a beach that almost feels like it's private. At low tide, you an take a stroll up the beach and grab a drink at Mullins beach bar. Thanks a lot Michele.

  • An absolute gem on the west coast of Barbados. We stayed for 5 nights & enjoyed our stay every single minute. Living on beach time, relaxing on the veranda, making a siesta in the hammock, swimming & snorkling (with the gear provided), lovely hosts, everything you need for a perfect holiday by the beach is here...

    Christine2016-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • BBQ, deck, beach…chill! A wonderfully relaxing place. We had a week in this older property that is right on the beach. We found Michele and Pia helpful with good communications. They arranged for us to pick up the keys at the airport hire car counter which was very handy. You will need a car as the 24 gas station and supermarkets are a bit too far to walk. The beach is wonderful and the snorkel gear was great to explore the shoal just off the beach. The internet speed as around 20mbs. The pictures of the property are accurate. We’re working out when we can go back...which should tell you everything you need to know.

My place is located in a town, Speightstown, and with it comes close proximity to public transport, shopping, museum, churches and parks. The beach and golf course is located across the street.
The apartment is self catering. All the essentials are there. It is uniquely placed across the street from the beach, Heywood and a golf course at Almond Beach Resort. Transportation hub is within a 5 minute walk, which means you can take buses around the island or to particular attractions on the island. A car will give you more flexibility and there is parking in front of the property. Walk to the supermarket and take their shuttle back with your groceries. In the town you will find a baker shop, fish market, department stores and the likes. A museum, churches, and restaurants are also within walking distance.
The beach is across the street from the property.
  • We spend one week in this great accommodation. What we liked most, was the good connection to the northern attraction like the Animal Flower Cave (however we have to admit to have used a rental car). Moreover, Heywoods Beach is really near just 2 min walk, Supermarket (Eddies) max. 10 min by foot. Speightstown itself also provided us with all necessary facilities e.g. Bakery, Beach Bar, Restaurants etc. The accommodation itself contained all necessary things, especially the kitchen was well equipped. The comprehensive mosquito netting kept all unwanted islands inhabitants outside. Everything was clean and pleasant, so we could really enjoy our stay.

    Marc2017-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place is clean. But there is à big generator on the terrace it's notre very pleasant. The Ac in the bedroom makes à lot of noise ans it's really difficult to sleep with it on. But the worse is the complaint of the cat in the cage. Because aileen catch cats like if it was rats and let them in the cage with à plastic bag on under the sun all day. It's Just horrible. She told me that she will bring them out but when we left the house à 4pm the cat was nearly dead and aileen was'nt at home. I tried to open the cage but I could'nt. So if you don't mind about the cat's killer you can stay in aileen house.

  • Aileen made our stay in Speightstown very enjoyable. She was available when needed to answer our questions about the area and the tourist attractions nearby. Located close to the beach for an early morning swim. Walking distance to the bus stop where you can catch a bus to anywhere on the island. The supermarket is within walking distance as well. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. My wife and I would definitely stay here again when we are in the Barbados. Aileen is a SUPER hostess. You won't be disappointed when you book this accommodation.

    Allan2017-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is inviting and has everything needed to feel at home. Excellent wifi access. Ideal space and location for a single traveller. Felt very safe, during my stay there. I hired a car to get around, but the bus terminal for buses into town was close by, plus the local shops and supermarket (Jordan's). The location was peaceful, and a stone's throw away from the beach! And there's a few local bars in the area. I'm bias went it comes to Barbados, as i have family and friends there, but on this occasion wanted to try something different re accommodation and I'm glad picked Aileen's place. It suited me fine as this trip was just for relaxation.

    Leona2017-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely couple of chilled days. This place is in a quiet neighbourhood just 3 minutes from the beach and 10 minutes away from a perfect bit of paradise - Heywood's Beach. The shops, bars and restaurants are 5 minutes away and the bus terminal inbetween which makes it a great place to access. The apartment was clean and spacious with a fully fitted kitchen so perfect for being self sufficient. Aileen was most helpful beforehand replying quickly to messages and helping us with bus routes and information too.

    Lynsey2017-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, 5 minutes walk to some great beaches. Fabulous local bars, good snorkelling. The apartment is comfortable, clean and well equipped. The host is very welcoming and friendly, I would highly recommend this apartment to future visitors.

  • Great island, great apartmens, great owner! Thank you for everything! It was super holydays!

    Roman2017-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay here in Speightstown! Our host was wonderful and very welcoming. We stayed for more than a week, and I was a little concerned about that when booking. What if it isn't where we want to be for that long? What if the accommodations aren't that good? Let me tell you, it was very comfortable and I would have been happy to stay there for a month or more! It is a very comfortable apartment in a great location (better than where it appears on the map). It is a short walk to your choice of beautiful beaches and close to the bus terminal that will take you anywhere for $2. The town has a nice local "Island feel" and has a selection of groceries or anything else you need. Larger towns are a short bus ride away. We even got to enjoy a tour of the island with our host and her sister one day including a great picnic lunch. We would definitely go back and we would recommend this place to others!

The Garden Suite is a charming, room with private pool, gazebo and amazing tropical gardens with breathtaking views of the ocean. The room is tastefully decorated with a large shower room and has its own lockable entrance.
The Garden Suite offers charming rental accommodation very close to Port St. Charles in the parish of St Peter, on the west coast of Barbados. It is a true tropical hideaway! The location has breathtaking panoramic views from the pool deck (just outside your door), overlooking Port St Charles and the Caribbean Sea, and is less than one kilometre from the beach. This pretty, rental suite is tastefully decorated and has its own private, lockable entrance. It is downstairs and to the side of my house ‘Eversince’. I live at ‘Eversince’ and am on hand to offer any help or advice. My guests have sole use of the pool (which is 27ft long), sun beds and gardens, and at all times their privacy is respected. Outside the garden is lush and tropical. There are regular visits from monkeys; amazing sunsets and the firefly displays are magical. It’s a perfect haven for nature lovers. There are tortoises on the lawn and lots of birds. There is also a resident cat. I have 2 dogs which live in the house with me. They are not loose to run around. The neighbouring properties also have dogs; so there are occasions when they bark – although most of the time they are all asleep. Inside the Garden Suite there are 2 beds with mosquito nets (a double and a single bed) and there is a large shower room with built in wardrobes. For entertainment there is a TV and DVD player with DVD library, also book library (no TV stations), high speed wi-fi access is available inside and outside. A 'pay as you go' local mobile phone is provided if required. There is a safe, hair dryer, small fridge and kettle. A starter pack of teas and coffee is provided along with milk, sugar and water. There are drinking glasses and sufficient plates, cutlery and mugs etc for snacking and light meals. Just outside the suite is a laundry room with washing machine, microwave and large fridge freezer. There is also a large gas BBQ outside (the BBQ has gas rings on which you can use pans). There is no full kitchen. Outside there is a gazebo with dining table and 4 chairs and a wicker sofa to relax on - perfect with a book or for a nap in the shade. It's beautifully lit at night and affords shelter and al-fresco dining, if there's a shower. All towels and bed linens are provided. There are 2 folding chairs available which can be taken to the beach as well as a cool bag and ice chillers for picnics.
The neighbourhood is select and very safe with professional residents and there is no passing traffic.
  • So serene and peaceful. Fantastic view of the ocean and marina. Nice breeze. Karen's place is very well kept and very tidy. Lovely pool. Her staff does an excellent job in maintaining the premises and they were never intrusive. It was really as I hoped it would be. Very comfortable. We had a fantastic stay. Would definitely recommend this little piece of paradise. PS the monkeys were very entertaining.

  • The garden suite offers a different experience from the beachside hotels. it is more relaxing in the real Barbados style.

    George2017-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay. Fantastic location, stunning views and the amenities were more than promised. If you love animals you will be in heaven. Georgie and the tortoises were favourites. Karen is a genuine lovely person and her hosting suited us perfectly. She was on hand when you needed and never over fussy. We would certainly recommend staying at the gorgeous Retreat at Eversince.

    Adrian2016-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • A nice place to stay with great sea views.

    Farheen2016-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We cannot praise Karen or her property too highly. Very friendly communication when booking and a very warm welcome when we arrived. She is not intrusive at all and is very helpful. This is one of those places which you don't really want to review as you want to keep it all to yourself! We had stayed in a similar place in Sunset Crest a couple of years ago, which was more expensive but nowhere near as good, and the owner might as well stayed in our room for all the privacy we had. Karen was having some work done upstairs one day and very thoughtfully apologised in advance to us for the noise, which was minimal. It certainly didn't spoil our enjoyment of the pool. Ideally you do need a car when staying here as the hill up from Port Ferdinand is steep, especially so in the heat. It is in a quiet residential area, and you get a good breeze. Normally mosquitoes drive me mad but I can't remember getting one bite, so we think the breeze keeps the mozzies down. Hercules the cat is very friendly. Karen has two dogs and if anyone is put off by this, don't be. They are not noisy at all and you hardly see them anyway. Isobel the hen struts about a couple of times a day and then disappears. There is a large table with plenty of chairs and two sun loungers next to the pool. There are lights in the trees so you can easily sit and read a book outside at night, with a beer or glass of wine from the fridge right next to your room. A barbecue is available but the only "cooking" we did was to make toast for breakfast and one day we had a salad, but other than that we ate out all the time. There is plenty of room to park a hire car. The pool and terrace are kept immaculately clean. We enjoyed our stay so much we are returning for a longer one next January. All in all, we love this place and can't recommend it highly enough.

    Diane2016-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Just Perfect. Karen let's you feel home. We enjoy each moment in Retreat. Definitely I recommended Retreat to everyone.

  • I wanted a nice relaxing peaceful holiday and that is exactly what I got. From the moment I arrived I was relaxed and feeling very chilled out. Karen had supplied a few essentials i.e. Tea, Milk, Bread, Water etc which was very much appreciated. The garden suite is exactly how you see it on the pictures, the room is airy and has Air Conditioning and the bathroom is very spacious too. The kitchen area has everything you need and the added bonus of a washing machine, tumble dryer, Iron and ironing board. You have full use of the gazebo where there is a freestanding BBQ, I cooked on it a few times. The pool and outside area is wonderful, I felt very much at home here. The Garden Suite is great for kicking back and relaxing and if you want too explore the island. There are so many things too do here and Karen is more than happy to help you, in fact she went above and beyond for me and made this holiday one of the best experiences in my life. Their are a lot of nice people in this world and Karen you are one of them. I will be still thanking you in a zillion years. Stay at The Garden Suite you will love it . All the best Keith George. X

  • Our host was great and accommodation was comfortable.

    Murari2017-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • George's place could not have more ideally located for our trip to Barbados. The apartment was as advertised. It is basic, but clean and adequately equipped and it perfectly suited our requirements. We did have one situation with the gas oven which I want to flag for the safety of other guests, but George assured me a new oven had been ordered and was to be delivered after our departure. George was great on providing directions and communicating prior to our arrival and his father Randal, who lives downstairs, was a wonderful host on a day to day basis .. very friendly and always on hand to assist us. We loved the close proximity to Speightstown and I enjoyed morning beach runs each day exploring the area. We rented a car and off street, secure parking is also provided. I felt very safe in the neighbourhood and the house is also super secure. One tip I would give to guests booking in is to bring some ear plugs ... there are some very noisy dogs as neighbours who like a good bark in the night! I very much hope to return to Barbados and will be looking to book in again with George if we do, we loved it!

    Debbie2017-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Very close to public transport

    Sylvie2017-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • I was welcome by my host. He was very accommodating and approachable. He took us to church and introduced us to his friends. They were all friendly.

    Doris2016-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a booking with another host which turned out to be a huge disappointment. We were given the option to switch our host same-day using the Instant Booking. We booked with Mr George who confirmed us right away and we were able to check-in within an hour. The place was neat, clean and very comfortable for my wife and I. The neighborhood is somewhat of an upper-middle-class one. The location is not too far from the beach and other local areas. This place included everything that we needed from a coffee maker, iron, A/C, cable TV, nice big bathroom and more - an all around comfortable and family-friendly environment. George's dad lives downstairs and was always friendly and helpful to anything that we needed. He even took our clothes of the line when it started raining when we were out. There are a couple noisy dogs next door and across the street. There is also one on the compound. They're all tied but not as annoying as some of the other reviews have stated. They are definitely tolerable and you can sleep with ease. We definitely recommend to any couple, group of friends, or family. Great neighborhood, great people, and a great place to ensure that you enjoy your visit.

    Kereem2017-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • George's apartment advertised is exactly how it looks. It is situated in a nice quiet friendly neighbourhood with a place to park your car. IT is very close to the beach and near a bar/restaurant called fishermens pub. We rented a car so we were able to travel back and forth to different parts of the city with ease. When we arrived there was a stove which was replaced and all the items required to eat in the kitchen was provided. George's father Randall lives downstairs and ensured that the fridge had some eggs and toast and some juices in the fridge upon our arrival. He was very friendly and greeted us very well and was always able to help us find a good place to eat (we rarely cook in general). At night, there were some noisy dogs but that didn't bother us too much since we were out most of the night in st Lawrence gap or ostins. If you are a light sleeper would recommend ear plugs. We didn't know things closed on Sundays so we were able to visit a church and Randall offered to take us to town. Tip for travellers Sundays pretty much everything is. Closed visit Mullins bar before 5pm to get some food and relax to a live band and then head to wholetown for the rest of the evening. Overall would definitely recommend everyone to come and stay here. If you love the beach this is for you.

  • Great spot with a rustic appeal but modern conveniences. Easy access to public transportation, public beach for a swim in the ocean, and drinks or food at Mullins beach bar. We enjoyed our time and would definitely consider going back.

    Sage2018-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place! The house is great, you can see birds, hummingbirds and sometimes even green monkeys from the balcony. Holetown is close for banks, etc. Walking distance to beaches of the West Coast, which we found were the best for easy swimming and snorkeling. Mullins is great but busy. Gibbes beach, more secluded, less busy and great for Snorkeling, a bit harder to find but very close too. Bar Bombas has fantastic food for reasonable prices, walking distance. The restaurant The Tides is close by and great (but expensive). And De Outback bar close buy has relaxed music on week ends. Hilary was really helpful and available when we needed help, so were her contacts there.

    Jean-Baptiste2018-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our whole experience with Hilary and Calabash was amazing. Hilary was the best host- she gave us a ton of recommendations before hand and answered all of our questions right away. Unfortunately, our flight was delayed by a couple of hours and Hilary reached out to coordinate new check-in plans. She kept in touch throughout the trip to see if there was anything we needed and put us in touch with her local contacts. She could not have been more accommodating. The House/Location-the house itself and the surrounding land is extremely clean and well maintained. The house was well equipped and had everything we needed (pots, pan, beach chairs, towels, extra blankets). You get the best of both worlds when staying at Hilary's home. Her home is surrounded by beautiful green, lush forestry on a secluded quiet street, however you are only a quick walk to the beach. The closest beach to Hilary's house is Mullins Beach- there's a beach bar, chairs you could rent and other vacationers. Gibbs Beach is a couple minutes further away, however it is definitely worth checking out. We ended up going to Gibbs Beach every day. It was very secluded and felt like you were on a private beach. The town of Mullins is very quaint and quiet. We walked to Speightstown for dinner one night (about 20 minute walk) and it had a lot of restaurant options. We ate at Little Bristol for dinner and The Orange Street Grocer for breakfast and would recommend both. The bus system is very easy and affordable to use, however it appears the buses were more consistent during the day time than night time. This was not a problem because there were many cabs available. Holetown was around a 15 minute drive and was definitely more touristy/upscale. We ate at the Tides Restaurant and the place was absolutely beautiful and the food was great. A local recommended Drift Ocean Terrance Lounge and the drinks were amazing. Overall, our stay was great and we highly recommend Hilary's home.

  • We had such a wonderful time in Barbados! Alicia and Sam were incredibly welcoming made sure that we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. The apartment is very spacious and very close to everything that Speightstown has to offer. We found that renting a car was best for us because we did a lot of exploring the island but the bus stop, beach and town are all within walking distance and easy to find. I highly suggest staying here. Make sure you give their lovely pup, Lena a good scratch for us.

  • Very nice, peaceful house, short walk to the main road, beaches and the center of Speightstown. Amazing comfortable beds. The host was very helpful, I will stay there again when I visit Barbados.

  • Karene and Andrew were incredibly kind and gracious hosts. I honestly can't imagine more hospitable and generous hosts. They arranged a taxi for us, gave us a tour of the area and even took us to the Oistin's Fish Fry. The apartment was immaculate and a cleaner even came mid-week. When we arrived, Karene and Andrew had delicious rum punch and food waiting for us! We had absolutely everything we needed in the apartment. The location is perfect for going to the beach and exploring the island. We chose not to rent a car and the bus station was only a few minutes walk. Lovely beaches are in walking distance as well as excellent restaurants. I highly recommend this listing!

  • Karene and Andrew are lovely people based in the house below the flat. They both work in the tourism industry and it shows in their hosting. We arrived late with our 17mth old son and they had provided the essentials including rum punch and beer! Also we did not want to travel with a cot or highchair both were arranged for us. The flat is great for a couple with children or 4 friends. Karene also arranged a car for us. It has amazing views and is fully equipped. The neighbourhood is friendly and safe. The beach is 5 minutes walk (calm clear water) and speightstown is 20 mins max. Speightstown is really nice with cafes/restaurants, market sellers and a small supermarket. We would not hesitate to recommend this flat and we will be back.

  • We absolutely loved our stay at the Andkar apartment! Karene and Andrew were the most gracious hosts - they were thoughtful in the way that you would only expect from family and truly went above and beyond to welcome us to their place. We arrived in the middle of the night and they were both outside to receive us. They even made sure the fridge was stocked with breakfast items so that we did not have to scramble to go to the supermarket or eat out in the morning. Our flight home was also in the middle of the night and Andrew stayed awake to see us off. They are very special people and we cannot imagine anything more that they could have done to make our stay better. The apartment itself feels like a home and it is well equipped with everything you would need to have a nice stay (including a BBQ grill on the balcony!). We cannot wait to visit again. We highly recommend their apartment!

  • Andrew and Karene are brilliant hosts, who run a great show. Great communication in advance, they stayed up late to meet us after our plane into Barbados was delayed in Trinidad. They even left us a few essential condiments in the fridge, including some very tasty/complimentary/home made rum punch. The venue is great, being a 5-10 minute walk from Speightstown - a fairly sleepy town on the West coast of the island, that has a couple of good restaurants and cafes and some smaller/quieter beaches when compared to the ones in front of the resorts further down the coast. They called us on the flat phone a couple of times to check that everything was ok, the flat was thoroughly cleaned halfway through the stay (it was immaculate when we arrived - complete with a fully stocked kitchen, clean towels, beach towels, beach chairs, a very comfy bed and very effective aircon in the bedrooms) and they even let us check out at 13:00 when we left....and would have let us stay longer if it wasn't for another couple moving in. They couldn't have done more. Highly recommended!

  • We had a lovely stay in Karene & Andrew's apartment. It was a perfect base for our holiday. We rented a car and explored the whole island. Was lovely to come back in the evening (and sometimes out of the midday heat!) to very well equipped, modern and private apartment. It has everything we needed for a comfortable week. The beds are enormous and Karene & Andrew were friendly and considerate hosts, you might say they are Airbnb PRO'S! thank you for letting us stay in your great apartment. Ollie

  • Andrew and Karene were great hosts. The apartment is lovely. It ticks all the boxes and was exactly what we wanted. Nice towels, lovely beach towels. Good quality starter pack. They were extremely professional, but also warm and caring too. Never intrusive, but offering the right amount of help, We felt safe having them in the apartment below. The area is residential and very pleasant. We walked to Speightstown every day either to the little town beach behind Juma's or for drinks/dinner in the evening. We took local buses everywhere; Mullins, Paynes Bay, Bathsheba, Holetown and Oistin's. The bus station is again near enough to walk. I have always done all inclusive in Barbados before, but am now converted and would most definitely return to Speightstown and the apartment. Thank you for a marvellous holiday Karene and Andrew,

Chindwin offers a special experience for our guests; the house is very much part of a charming, local Bajan community which means our guests get to enjoy a very different and unique version of Barbados. Chindwin is close to restaurants, the beach, family-friendly activities, nightlife, and public transport. It's the perfect home-from-home for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), and large groups (one bedroom can sleep 2 adults or can be made up for 6 children).
On the ground floor, there is an ample living, dining and well equipped kitchen area which, combined with a 40′ x 10′ rear covered patio and separate TV/Playroom, means that space is not an issue, even at maximum occupation. There is free Wi-Fi, TV and DVD player so entertainment is readily available. Housekeeping is included weekly, extra is available at an additional cost. Upstairs there is a large master bedroom with king size bed and en-suite shower, and a fabulous balcony from which you can look across Speightstown to the open sea beyond. Chindwin has 3 more bedrooms with queen size double beds. Bedroom 5 is a large room, and a wonderful children’s ‘dormitory’ which can sleep either 2 adults or up to 6 children. It has 2 full sized single beds, as shown in the pictures on the web-site. It also has a bunk bed, of which the bottom bunk is actually a double. There is also a metal framed 'pop-up' bed that can be used as well. So it could sleep 6 kids at the most (as long as 2 are OK in the double). It is also perfectly adequate as a room for 2 adults All bedrooms have air conditioning. The bathrooms each contain a shower unit, w/c and wash hand basin. The flexible layout provides a perfect home for a 2, 3 or even 4 generation family holiday!!
Chindwin is located in a charming local residential neighbourhood. Safe and secure and close to nearby historic Speightstown.
  • The pics don't do the house justice. Great location: easy access to pristine beaches (10min walk), public transport (5mins walk to yellow and blue busses into Bridgetown/ Oistins and only cost BBD2 per person. The neighbourhood is tranquil, the kids loved the pools and the green monkey swinging through the trees!!! Very convenient to have a variety of board games/playing cards for family entertainment, in addition to the tv amd wifi access. The accommodation was quite comfortable for a family of 10. Very spacious and all the basic amenities were available. The home was clean and clearly well maintained. Azzizi the house manager was quite welcoming available to help with info on the house. For great local food you need to try the Fisherman's Pub. Best.Bajan.Food!!! Definitely worth recommending and going back!! Special thanks to Karen for her patience in helping us get the booking and transport sorted out seamlessly!!!

  • It was a nice stay at this location. It was nestled in a quiet, friendly neighborhood. The pictures do not do the house justice as it is much more spacious than expected. It accommodated our large group of 13 perfectly. It is walking distance to beautiful beaches, restaurants and grocery stores. We encountered a lot of millipedes even though the house was chemically treated. We asked that the pool be cleaned more often since the millipedes were getting into to pool at night. Overall it was a nice stay.

  • A lovely family stay! Kids loved the pool and watching monkeys in back garden.

  • Staying at this house is certainly value for money when compared to others in the same price range and even higher for a family stay. Five bedrooms with one particularly suited for children, including teens - a big plus. The house was very clean with good-sized showers in each bathroom, also good Internet service in a very quiet neighborhood. Having a car or cars is a must because of the distance from popular attractions. I would certainly recommend this house for a family stay.

    Marlon2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our group of 8 (comprised of guests from across the US and Canada ages 20-30) stayed at Chindwin for a week in mid June 2017. This house is ideal for guests looking for a large, affordable, and non-touristy accommodation in Barbados. If you are looking for the traditional Barbados tourist experience, you may find a better fit with another property managed by Karan closer to Bridgetown. Things to Consider Prior to Staying at Chindwin: LOCATION: -Chindwin is a vacation home amongst a purely residential, semi-rural neighborhood. You will most likely be the only tourists in the neighborhood. That being said, the neighbors are very welcoming! -Given that the location of the home is rural, be prepared to hear cows, roosters, chickens, etc in the morning hours. -Chindwin is within walking distance to several nice/quiet beaches. We were able to explore a new beach location each day. You can also take the bus to beaches across the island. TRANSPORTATION: -The Host can coordinate transportation to/from the airport. -If you are questioning whether or not to use a rental car, please note that Chindwin is just up the hill from a main street that will give you ample access to public transportation. (Our group only used public transportation via buses at $2 Barbados per ride). Chindwin is about 45-60 minutes via bus to Bridgetown/Oistins depending on the time of day. DINING: -Chindwin has an excellent kitchen equipped with all of the cooking utensils and pots/pans needed for the preparation of any meal. -There are two grocery stores within walking distance of Chindwin. We recommend stocking up at Jordans, as it has a wider variety of products. Produce and Bread from street vendors are also excellent. -Though Speightstown's dining options are significantly smaller in dining variety than in Bridgetown, there are some nice restaurants within walking distance of the home. We ate at Fisherman's Pub, Mullins Beach Bar, Little Nino's, and the Lobster Pot. Also, we suggest taking the bus into Bridgetown/Oistins for additional options. Chindwin Home Amenities/Logistics: -Upon our arrival, our host Azizi made us aware of a plumbing issue in the master bathroom. Given that it was a Sunday and the plumber could not get the part needed during the weekend, we were asked not to use that toilet. Less than 24 hours later, the plumber and Azizi had fixed/cleaned the bathroom for our use. We were very impressed by Azizi's quick action and attention to the issue. -Please be aware that water pressure and water temperature can become an issue. -AC in the bedrooms are very appreciated. -Outdoor shower is ideal for rinsing off after a beach day. -Midway through our stay, a housekeeper came to clean the entirety of the home, which was much appreciated. Though he/she was scheduled to visit, the pool maintenance rep did not come to clean the pool. -In June (probably seasonal) the house and surrounding gardens/pool are covered with red millipedes - with many ending up in the pool. Be careful where you step...

  • We highly recommend staying with Margo and Ann (Kenny's auntie & mum) when visiting Barbados - the location, amenities, help and kindness we experienced were amazing. Their hospitality exceeded anything we could have asked for, and we truly got a taste of the island's culture. The place itself is very spacious, clean and well kept. For our first visit to Barbados, Margo's and Ann's warm and accommodating nature made us feel at home from day one. Thank you so much!!! We hope to be back soon. :)

    Sonja2016-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • A large apartment that a family could enjoy with a big kitchen and dining room and separate living room. We enjoyed sitting on the deck each evening watching the cats play. Kenny’s aunt drove us to town so we could buy groceries when we arrived and brought us fresh vegetables and limes from her garden. The house is quite a walk from town in a quiet area.

  • Thank you for the nice Stay! Really friendly. The flat is big/ clean and Kennys family is so friendly and helpful. Just enjoy the beautiful island! Go to the beach at port st. Charles. It is about 10 minutes by car from the house. Very beautiful beaches. Speighstown has a big supermarket and good restaurants and bars- also a good bakery.

  • Amazing place to stay if you wish to be calm and relax! Me and my mom had a great time there. I recommand the rental of a car if you don't like walking more than 20minutes. Not a problem for me and my mom since we loved to walk and discover the best out of Barbados!

    Marie-Ève2017-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Kenny and his family were simply the BEST AIRBNB HOSTS we have had using Airbnb to travel. We had a fantastic and unforgettable stay at Kenny’s. The house is located approximately 15 min away from Speightstown centre and 20 minutes from some of the nicest beaches on the island. Speightstown is a vibrant town that maintains it's colonial charm along side modern shops and restaurants. The bakery located in the center is a MUST GO with all kind of local pastries made with coconuts, cassava, and bananas!! As the town is located on the West side of the Island, the ocean is very calm - making it ideal for families with kids. Finally, for a more upscale experience, we recommend grabbing dinner or drinks (or both!) at the Port St Charles Yacht Club which offers a beautiful view of the bay and a very relaxing environment. Kenny’s house, located in a nice neighborhood, is very spacious and clean and includes several bedrooms, a huge kitchen that allows you to cook, a living room, and an outside terrace. During our entire stay, Kenny’s family was nothing but extremely helpful and kind. They picked us up and dropped us off at the bus station, and filled the fridge with essentials for us. We even had the honor to be invited by the family for dinner where they cooked the best island meal we had. We will be returning soon and recommend without reserve this host!

    Ginette2015-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Kenny's place is just fantastic. It is a lovely 15 minute walk down to the town and some of the best beaches in Barbados, and you can catch a bus back up the hill. There is a bus station in Speightstown and you can catch a bus for 2 Barbados dollars to anywhere on the island. The house is amazing - so much room, really well equipped, and Margo and Ann (Kenny's mum and sister) were soooooo welcoming. A real home from home. The house is in a quiet location and you get a feel of the real Barbados. I will definitely be returning!!

    Fiona2015-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely tranquil place for a couple or family and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet getaway. The host's relatives were extremely nice and we felt very welcomed. The location is a little distance away from a nearby town with supermarkets, clothing stores, gas stations and beautiful sandy beaches.

Sunny, breezy, and peaceful property in the Bajan countryside of The Whim. Private bedroom (with A/C) with ensuite bathroom. Shared living room (with TV), kitchen, garden, patio with a stunning view. Free wifi. 3 minute drive to Speightstown (with buses to other parts of the island. Bus fare is $2.00 BDS). Would love to welcome new guests with a homemade dinner on arrival, breakfast on your first morning and day of departure, and show you what the island has to offer, outside of its hotels.
"Tsavo" is the house I grew up in. It's situated at the top of the hill of The Whim. It's a very bright, peaceful and breezy house, overlooking The Whim gully, with a view of the sea and the sunset. My parents built it about 25 years ago, modelling it after my grandfather's family house in Kenya (from my mother's memories). The property is secluded from the main road with surrounding trees and bamboo. The house is a 20 minute drive to such attractions as the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, Farley Hill National Park, The Animal Flower Cave and Bathsheba (the East Coast). The nearest beach is a 5 minute drive / 20 minute walk away.
The Whim is a very quiet rural village spanning between the incline of a hill (ascending from The Whim gully) up to the highway.
  • Our stay exceeded our expectations. Although the house is very much in the countryside, it's less than 5 minutes by car to a beach. Highlights of our stay included playing cards on the lovely verandah one (unusually) rainy afternoon and sharing both an evening meal and breakfast prepared by Adam. Internet access was good, and the self contained bedroom and bathroom was perfect for us. Our use of the shared space was encouraged and unrestricted. A very relaxing and peaceful experience.

    Roger2018-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for being a great host Adam. I had a wonderful stay at your lovely house. I appreciate the advice for the best places I had to see on the island. I will miss your dog Lilly jaja she’s very friendly. I will definitely return in the future to stay at your place.

    Edwin2018-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying in Adams place, lovely views to the sea and often a refreshing breeze because of its location on higher ground. A great host who is really helpful and cooked us a very nice Bajan welcome meal. It was really good being able to share the kitchen/dining areas and the large verandah where you can eat outside with a fabulous view. Watch the hummingbirds as you eat breakfast! Adam is very helpful with local knowledge and information as he grew up on the island. We also enjoyed having a host who is living there rather than an absent host that is represented by 3rd and sometimes fourth parties, so nice and personal and easygoing.

    Robin2018-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Adam was a wonderful host, and staying at his place was one of my best experience on Airbnb so far. His house has a lot of charm, and the patio overlooking the ocean in the distance is the perfect place to relax, share drinks and talk. The room fits perfectly the description and the photos. It's a 15-min walk to Speightstown bus terminal, from where you can reach most part of the island, and Adam dropped me there often so I didn't have to walk! I truly appreciated Adam's hospitality, and he went far beyond what is expected from an Airbnb host: cooking a local dinner, showing me around the East coast, helping me organize activities... I highly recommend booking with Adam, you'll feel warmly welcomed and have a truly local experience.

Lovely bright spacious garden villa situated in a quiet residential area, the villa is very private and surrounded by lush garden with several mango and palm trees. Only 5 mins walk to the most beautiful beach where locals swim, look out for the turtles ! Just a 10 mins walk to Speighstown, where you will find supermarket, bank, great cafes, restaurants and bars and a great dive school. Car is not essential but if you wish to see the Island the bus station is less than 10 min walk.
The Heywood's Estate is a friendly location, with a mixture of professionals, ex pats and holiday rentals. Everyone is keen to wave and say hello, so you will feel very welcome.
  • Couple, 35/39, 11 nights/ Sep 2016: We had a wonderful time in this Villa. It has a perfecly equiped kitchen, is really spacious and has a very nice garden with mango and palmtrees. All technical things like ACs, TV, etc worked very well. The balcony of the masterbedroom is also a nice place to spend the evenings. The next beach is Heywoods Beach (peaceful, nice clear water, sea turtles) which is only a 5min walk. The next big supermarket in Speightstown is 15min by feet. And the Busterminal is also only a 7min walk. The organisation and communication with Maria was perfect and also OB the local manager was very helpful. There'also an airport transfer service available (incl a stop a the supermarket!). In short: Lovely island, great beaches Tasteful, quiet and in a way luxurious Villa Perfect Organisation We will come back!

  • The house is really spacious, excellent for families, couples or groups of friends. It lies in one of the nicest areas of the island, close to the best snorkeling beach of Barbados. It's just a 10 min walk from Speightstown, where you can find shops, banks and restaurants. The small town is not as touristy as the south of the island and is great for a relaxing holiday. Communication wih the host was excellent and the property manager was very nice and helpful. The kitchen is well equipped and everything was working fine, except of the TV, which had signal problems (we didn't really mind). Overall an awesome place.

    Anna2016-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable home with all the necessary amenities. Air conditioning in all three bedrooms for sleeping comfort, with standing and ceiling fans downstairs for ventilation. Enough space for a family to enjoy a great time. Just a short walk to the small town of Speightstown, with a couple of shops, restaurants and bars and literally an easy four minute walk to the nearest beach. Easy access to public transportation if you want to explore like a Bajan. Don't expect much traditional nightlife as this is away from the city, but the larger towns down the coast will have more places open at night. Well fruited mango trees all around the property but we did not get to sample any falling coconuts. Great place, would definitely stay there again.

    Robert2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • The house is modern, well equipped, and within walking distance of quiet beautiful beaches and the town of Speightstown. There are good restaurants along the beach, but thankfully little nightlife and no cruise ship passengers. It is ideally situated for exploring the island by car or by the frequent busses. The owners are very helpful. There is no pool and the garden is small (though nicely kept), but we were perfectly happy given the nearby beaches, We did not hesitate to give a five-star rating .

  • Our stay was just great! When we arrived Fred was already there although we have been early. He showed us the next supermarket, bars and beaches to go to and drove us to the bus station. The flat has everything we needed, we could cook there and it was clean. And - after our experience in an other apartment on the island really important - there was mosquito protection on all windows. So we did not see one of theseveral annoying creatures in the apartment. In total: Everything perfect - we can definitely recommend a stay!

  • Fred and Yvonne were the perfect hosts ..... friendly, accommodating and generous. They were more than willing to pick us up at our last location to the apartment. The apartment was in a newer building and well supplied. Neighbours were friendly. A short walk to down town. A very relaxing stay.

  • Fred met us at the house. We arrived at around 3am off of a red eye and he was friendly and welcoming. The place is quaint and has the feel of being home. We used the kitchen for breakfast mostly (tea and such). It was extremely clean. It's about 5-10 minute walk from Mullins beach, which also has a restaurant on the beach with amazing local food. The beach is stunning as with all the other beaches. Yvonne and Fred came half way through our stay to change the linens and towels. My husband and I were there for our birthday. I was born in Barbados and left as a young child. Yvonne's place made me feel at home and not like a visitor in my own country. The perfect setting for relaxing and enjoying our birthday. • Yvonne and Fred were very welcoming and even drove us to the grocery store when we arrived. The apartment was very clean and close to the beach. The neighbors dog did wake us up a few times throughout the night but over all we had great stay in Barbados!

  • Fred was very polite, punctual and accommodating. The neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful and the neighbours are very kind and mannerly. The apartment is very clean and in great condition with a modern feel to it. I will definitely stay again. Thumbs up!

222 Comfy House is situated in the popular area of Heywoods Park, St Peter the West Coast of Barbados. 800 yards from white sandy beaches and 900 yards from Speightstown which consists of supermarkets, restaurants, Bars and takeaways. WiFi, multi channel TV. Air Conditioning in all bedrooms. No charge for gas and water, generous allowance for electricity. A very welcoming neighbourhood awaits you.
222 Comfy House provides total comfort for it's guests. The area it is situated in is ideal. All 13 houses in the Avenue are English speaking. The bus stop is outside 222 Comfy House. Finally the veranda is cool, soothing and therapeutic.
My guests will have to travel around the world to find a neighbourhood as welcoming, friendly and helpful as the ones who live around 222 Comfy House.
  • I have finally found somewhere where I am happy to visit time and time again. Good location. Nice neighbourhood. Very comfortable house. Looking forward to my next visit. Great host. Couldn't ask for anything else.

Neighborhood is quiet and neighbors are awesome.
  • This is a lovely home in a very safe, quiet and friendly neighbourhood. Facilities are pretty good and it is so easy to access local shops, the beach and local transport. Wi-Fi is very good but the cable TV is very limited and there is no landline available. Despite this we really enjoyed our stay and found Cindy the host and Shawn the property manager were quite efficient at sorting out any problems we encountered, which were minor. Overall Cindy's place is very good value for money and would recommend. Thank you Cindy and Shawn.

Georgeous beachfront penthouse in historic Speightstown with amazing views over the Caribbean Sea. Relax on the terrace before taking a stroll into town, all amenities are close by, and with the most stunning beaches at hand what more could you want!
Turtle Beach is a beautiful airy penthouse, marble floors and cathedral ceilings make this the perfect place for a Caribbean retreat, with the most amazing views over the aquamarine Caribbean Sea. The furnishings are Caribbean cool and perfectly complement the apartment and it's surroundings. All amenities are close to hand and a car is not necessary if you do not wish. The beaches of the calm waters of the West Coast are perfect for swimming and snorkelling, and with many world class golf courses close by, there is something to please everyone. Reefers and Wreckers dive shop is a minute away, and Philip and Michael will take good care of you! night dives also available. There are several restaurants within walking distance, ranging from 5 star to the local rum shops....the choice is yours. Supermarkets, ATM machines, and all manner of shops are a two minute stroll away. Walk into Speightstown on a bustling Saturday morning, and see Caribbean colour and life all around you, local ladies selling exotic fruit and vegetables, fresh fish from the days catch at the market. Many great days out can be had from this area., there is something for everyone.
I spent many months looking for the ideal property in Barbados, after visiting the island for more than thirty years it was not an easy decision!! Speightstown won on many counts, it is quite possibly one of the most original authentic Caribbean towns still in existence. It was at one time know as "Little Bristol" due to it being the main port of call for trade boats calling into port from England, collecting spices and sugar. Here you are able to have as activity packed or as relaxing a vacation as you wish., the choices are all there. There are many bars and restaurants within a short walking distance, and should you wish to go further afield, the restaurants and bars of Holetown are a 10 minute drive away. The building is secure with gated entrance and parking, and is still tranquil yet within walking distance from all. I LOVE it !!!
  • Hi Trish Now back from Barbados and had a superb time. Your apartment very well situated and great layout. Only downside was no air con for two nights in main bedroom and lounge and nearly suffocated first night and got bitten to death the second! A/C man in the end got unit working in main bedroom and one only in the lounge - other seems kaput!Exacerbated by no hot water for next morning and evening as idiot A/C man forgot to turn back on. Some form of refund is I feel due - say a day and a half? Kind regards Simon

  • We had a lovely time staying at Trisha's. A beautiful view with lots of space, the photos don't nearly do it justice!

    nadia2015-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • This was a beautiful apartment in the most stunning of areas quiet yet minutes walk to local bars. I would definitely recommend a stay in this apartment and Trisha was more than helpful before hand and during our stay. Thank you Trisha for a fab honeymoon vacation. Debbie and John

  • I absolutely loved it and wished I could have stayed longer. The apartment is great and has everything you need and is nicely decorated, but the real point is the terrace that's made for sunbathing and watching the sun go down over the Caribbean Sea with a rum punch! Speightstown feels like the "real" Barbados, away from the crowds and the resorts, but with plenty of restaurants and places to go nearby. The beach in front of the apartment is great for floating around to cool off, and to the north you can walk a fair distance too along Hayward's beach to Port St Charles. Trisha was great and was in contact when I booked and before I arrived with details and useful information. Her housekeeper Marva was also fantastic and couldn't have been more helpful. If only Barbados wasn't such a long way from Australia I'd be back all the time, but I do hope to visit again!

  • Generally the listing is accurate. It is a very attractive and spacious apartment overlooking an unoccupied strip of beach just across the quiet road. The TV will play dvds but is not connected to receive programmes. The apartment is within 5 mins walking distance of the outskirts of Speightstown where there are nice restaurants, a supermarket, a baker and veg. stalls.
