  • We had a fantastic stay. Sally was really friendly and welcoming. The annex is surrounded by lots of beautiful countryside and public footpaths. We had fresh eggs, milk and bread provided as well as lots of cereals and teas to choose from. We went to the local pub for dinner which had a great atmosphere and the food was delicious. We had the dog with us and the pub where happy to let us bring her in. It was a chilly 0 degrees the night we stayed but the annex remained nice and cosy. We would definitely stay here again when we are next in the area.

  • Sally was there when we arrived and was very welcoming showing us round the annexe and explaining everything to us. There were some provisions to get us started which is always appreciated. Everything was provided in the kitchen department...the only thing we missed was a microwave but you can survive without one! We would definitely recommend this accommodation to others and return ourselves if the opportunity arose. Thank you Sally!

  • Sally and Bob are really welcoming and friendly. Cattistock is an ideal location for touring Dorset, Devon, Wiltshire and Somerset. Nice village with pub and shop that has all you need. We had lovely days out on our motorcycle. Comfortable accommodation which we would certainly recommend. Enjoyed the eggs they gave us from their hens. A great start to our holiday before our trip to Jersey. Dawn and Jerry

Sydling is made up of a diverse range of architecture with a number of historic houses, thatched cottages and converted barns that give the village its quintessential English charm. The fertile soil and temperate climate attracts green fingered residents, who make sure this ancient village remains lovingly manicured. It is a perfect base for walking, cycling and running with the Wessex Ridgeway Path running through the village and numerous footpaths accessible straight from our front door. We have walking maps and books, which you are welcome to borrow. The chalk paths are excellent for cross-country running, the Giant's Head Marathon (renowned as one of the best Marathons in the country) and Sydling Hill Run (11.5k) are held here every year with an excellent Supper and Barn Dance in the Village Hall on the Saturday night. There is also an excellent, recently refurbished, award winning pub, The Greyhound Inn, with a fantastic restaurant that serves locally sourced food and drink. Alfresco dining in the summer months and cosy log fires during the winter - a great place to end up after a blustery walk. There are no street lights in our village so on a clear night you can enjoy some wonderful stars on your short walk home! The World Heritage Jurassic Coast is less than 30 mins away offering stunning views and cliff walks including Golden Cap, the highest point on the South West Coast. The market town of Bridport has a large street market on a Wednesday and Saturday, selling all sorts of wonderful items from delicious local foods to old books and antiques. We are very lucky to have a such diverse choice of beaches all within easy reach, the beautiful white sand and shallow waters of Studland Bay just under an hours drive to the East and the traditional seaside town of Lyme Regis less than an hour to the West (both suitable for small children to play in the sea - and great sand for castles!). With many great beaches in between, our particular favourites are Swanage Bay for a 'fish and chip' sunset, great crabbing off the old harbour wall, netted swimming area with life guards during the summer. Ringstead Bay, lovely walk down from the National Trust car park, crystal clear water on a shingle beach, great for running and swimming. Hive Beach with it's busy cafe is a fun place all year round, the cliffs are dangerous to the West but it is lovely to walk along the beach to the East, the sea can be very wild with huge waves, swimming not recommended! We also have some great Farm Shops, that are genuinely on farms, Feed The Soul Cafe at Green Valley Yurts (approx 10 mins drive) is a unique experience, specialising in raw and vegan, great coffee and interesting things to try! They also sell amazing organic vegetables grown just behind the shop. Modbury Farm shop is a great place to visit with small children as you can peer into the barns at the docile Jersey cattle, there are always plenty of ducks, chickens and turkeys wondering around the farm yard - NB it is a working farm, wellies essential! Among many other lovely attractions Minterne Magna Gardens are approx 10mins drive or a hearty walk away. With stunning snowdrops, awe inspiring spring blossoms and breath taking Autumn colours, they are definitely worth a visit. They often hold special events and provide lovely cream teas during the summer.
  • Russ and Ellie have a beautiful cosy and stylish home set in a stunning little village- just a few minutes walk to the local pub and lots of family friendly country walks to be had. We spent a cosy weekend with friends and babies and the home was fantastic for little ones. There were some lovely thoughtful touches with Devon honey and coffee and biscuits on arrival! Thanks again for a great stay x

The three pubs all offer food to suit most pokets and tastes, although it may to book at peak times of the year - especially at weekends. There is a fish and chip shop in Maiden Newton (approximately 3 miles away) although some of the pubs offer a take away service and there is a fish and chip van that visits the village once a week on a Thursday. The village is situated in the centre of a triangle of 3 town. The nearest is Dorchester, the county town, steeped in history and with dinosaur and Tutankhamum exibitions. • What a great place to stay. Set in lovely countryside with stunning views. We found Ian very helpful, as we arrived on a cold evening, he had the heating on for us, so all nice and cosy. Also, it was lovely to find a few goodies in the kirchen and fridge, breakfast was sorted for the next day. Hopefully, we're visit again later in the year.

  • I felt at home at comfortable as soon as Ian opened the door to the bugalow. He really made me feel welcome and we chatted for ages about this and that. The place was well laid out and decorated in a casual, homely style. Melanie and Ian had left bread, eggs, milk, cereal, tea and coffee for my breakfast which was a welcome and thoughtful thing to do. I've stayed in smaller and less well appointed places for the same money so I think Melanie and Ian's bungalow exceptional value for money. Highly recommended.

  • We had a fantastic stay, Mel and Ian were very helpful on arrival making sure we had everything we needed and some great suggestions on where to visit in the area. • We had a lovely stay, if you want to get away from it all in the countryside then this is a great place to relax and unwind. Very spacious and everything that you need. Ian was very welcoming and available for any information about the area / things to do. Ian also provided some breakfast groceries upon arrival which was a lovely touch, especially the chocolate cake :) Thank you Ian!

  • My son, dog and I had a wonderful trip to Dorset and Jo and her family treated us like old friends! Unfortunately I broke my wrist on Day 3 but Jo was amazing - she took me to A&E and stayed with me over 2 hours, then cooked our dinner (which was very yummy), plied me with wine and made us feel so welcome and cared for. She even wrapped my pot in clingfilm and ran me a bath and had no complaints when I couldn't clean the caravan very well when we left! Aside from all that wonderful hospitality she shared some very funny jokes to keep my spirits up, was brilliant with my son and made good friends with our dog. Dorset itself is a beautiful county with much to explore - we'll definitely be coming back. Thanks Jo - Mark - and Alex xx much love

    EvaLynne2015-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little caravan and wonderful host! We arrived after midnight but Jo messaged us with clear instructions on how to find everything we needed. Caravan is small but has decent sized bed, microwave, hob, kettle and space to prepare breakfast. Jo is absolute delight and her family are so welcoming, everything you want in a host, made us feel at home immediately. We had a problem with the toilet on the first night but Jo fixed it immediately the next morning and was always asking us if we were comfortable or needed anything. The local town was quiet during our stay but has a couple of pubs well worth a visit. Definitely recommend this for friends or couples looking for a no-frills visit to Dorset, and Jo & family made it worth every penny. Thanks so much! Gavin & Caroline

    Gavin 2015-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Truly brilliant week staying here!! Brought my daughter down for a last minute birthday getaway and it turned into the best week! We walked dogs around the village, and saw lots of history. Jo is like an encyclopaedia on local history. She took us to a local beach and taught my daughter to snorkel which was amazing. The caravan was warm and cosy and suited us just fine! If you want all mod cons and no personality you should spend £1000 and get a caravan in Cornwall, if however you want a wonderful personal approach and a great holiday at a place with someone who will help you out, give you ideas of places to visit in the area then here is where I'll come for the foreseeable. Genuinely loved staying here, having never visited Dorset before I felt like I wasn't left looking for places to visit, Jo gave us plenty of ideas and info which made it so much nicer. Thank you so much for making our stay so great l, can't wait to come back. Look forward to visiting again!!!

    Victoria 2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Had the most amazing stay with Jo, Mark and Maggie. The caravan is beautiful and the bed is extremely comfortable. Jo even took pity on us and snuck some food into the caravan for us because we didn't bring any. We had absolutely no complaints at all and wish we had booked for longer! The town is the perfect little town, with gorgeous hillside views and exactly what you would expect to see in an English town. Honestly a must see! We will definitely be back :)

    AJ2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Really good location and a lovely, welcoming host! Could do with a quick clean but we booked last minute so it was expected, very cosy though!

    Curt2017-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jo is very friendly and during our three days made efforts to make us welcome and introduce us to village life. Cerne Abbas is a lovely place with three pubs and friendly locals. We enjoyed the walks and a concert at nearby Plush festival - which we walked to. The caravan may once have looked like the photo but these days it and its facilities, such as they are (with the exceptions of the new kettle, microwave and toaster), are a combination of worn-out, broken, dirty, doggy, damp, mouse/moth-eaten, and/or makeshift. Not advised for people with allergies to mould and house (caravan) dust, or too large for the chemical toilet. There is also no running water, which is a tad challenging. The van is not in a field but next to the house, where a shower is available.

  • Andrea's studio is an absolute gem tucked away in rural Dorset. She is a wonderful thoughtful host ( she had baked a Dorset apple cake for our arrival) and nothing is too much trouble. The studio is very stylish and comfortable, very fresh and so well equipped. We both found the stay easily one of the very best of our many Airbnb experiences & we can't wait to return. Thank you again Andrea.

  • Such a beautiful place! The whole studio, from the location to the furnishings in the studio were just perfect. We were surrounded by natural beauty and literally got away from light and noise pollution. Andrea has put so much thought into the studio and it has everything you need. The studio was very clean. The kitchen and bathroom is so well equipped. Andrea welcomed us with a Dorset Apple cake which was delicious and some fresh raspberries from her fruit and vegetable garden. She had freshly cut some vegetables for us too which we made a lovely curry with. Before our stay, I had asked Andrea on recommendations of things to do and places to eat and she recommended some amazing places. She even phoned her friends to find some good vegetarian restaurants for us and yes, the food there was amazing. We loved every bit of our stay and will definitely return again.

  • Andrea's place is just fantastic, we couldn't ask for more! Picturesque, quiet, remote, we wished we stayed for longer! We booked last minute and Andrea was more than helpful and kind with giving us directions, helping us settle in etc. Great location to get to beaches on the Jurrasic coast, loads of quirky little pubs and beach restaurants not too far away too. The place is equipped with everything you need for a peaceful and easy stay. Hopefully we'll be back one day!

    Pras2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous studio beautifully furnished. Perfect for quiet retreat. Andrea and family were very warm and welcoming and flexible for our needs. Beautiful surroundings and you feel that you have enough privacy even though on the family's land.

    Joanna2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • The attention to detail in the studio is fantastic. Such a beautiful location, the host was fantastic, welcoming and just lovely! The bed is so comfy, everything you need in the kitchen too. So often with places like this, the appliances and amenities are super basic, but at the studio it is all super nice, good quality and well thought out. From beautiful linen on the bed, to even little things like a marble toothbrush holder, nothing feels cheap or basic. We loved our stay here, we woke up and looked out onto the fields with sheep, and can't wait to return!

    Emma2017-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The accomodation was clean, modern and with all the amenities you could wish for. The location was very scenic and secluded. Andrea was the perfect host! Polite, friendly and always willing to help with any of our needs. We had a great sleep and woke up refreshed... would recommended to anyone!

  • Andrea was a very welcoming and caring host - she made sure we had everything we needed and was always on hand. The studio is beautiful and fully equipped with all you would need to have a lovely stay in Dorset. I would definitely recommend Andrea's place and hope to come back soon!

Pound House is a spacious traditional Dorset thatched house and lies in the heart of the Dorset countryside, and has been in our family for many years. It is homely, comfortable and clean (great new cleaners employed after some negative comments over the summer), and has recently been redecorated, but is still a little frayed at the edges. It is good for couples, families (with kids), ramblers, cyclists, climbers. It is a twenty minute drive to the sea.
Downstairs comprises of two lounges, one smaller cosy space, great for relaxing in the evenings with a glass of wine and one large light filled room perfect for sunny summer days. (There is a fireplace in the smaller lounge but due to insurance restrictions guests are not allowed to use this). There is a large kitchen/dining room with views into the garden and surrounding fields. This is perfect for entertaining large groups of people. There is also an Aga if you wish to try your hand this type of cooking. Next to the kitchen is a smaller adjoining room with a reasonably sized electric cooker for those who prefer to cook on this. There is also a small downstairs toilet off the smaller living room. Upstairs there are four bedrooms. One master bedroom with a double bed and ensuite bathroom, one small single bedroom, one twin room, and another double room which contains another extra single bed. All the bedrooms upstairs rooms have sinks (which we don't use very much). There is also a separate bathroom. Neither of bathrooms have a shower at the moment. The house has a lovely feel to it and all our friends have always said how much they enjoy staying there. It is a little frayed at the edges so please don't expect perfection, but it professionally cleaned and has brand new pocket sprung mattress with mattress protectors and brand new bed linen. Feel free to read our books, but please do not take them away! The garden is large and has a small stream running along one side of it, so be careful with young children. Having said that all our kids have grown up there and we have never had any incidents. You drive over a small bridge into the property and there is parking for 3 cars.
Pound House is surrounded by the English countryside, and many country walks can be accessed from the garden, Nether Cerne is only 20 minutes walk (please access footpath through the farm, do not walk down the main road!) and has a beautiful manor house and pretty church. Cerne Abbas is a 35 minute walk (or 5 minutes by car). It has 3 pubs, all of which do good food, and a friendly village shop. It is also the site of the famous Cerne Abbas Giant. A must see for all visitors! There is a lovely pub at Plush, which does great food and is only a 15 minute drive. It is best to book because they do get busy. Plush also has a music festival. This is a summer (July - September) series of classical, contemporary and jazz concerts, artistically directed by cellist Adrian Brendel. We are about 15 minutes from Dorchester where there are numerous shops and supermarkets, and 30 minutes from Weymouth, where there are loads of seaside activities. Bridport and West Bay are also about 30 minutes by car. Pound house is not only surrounded by country walks but it is close to some of Dorset's famous natural beauty spots. Dorset's famous Jurassic Coast 95 miles of stunning coastline with rocks recording 185 million years of the Earth's history Abbotsbury The Swannery which is a sanctuary for 600 mute swans on the site of an 11th-century monastery, plus kids' play and a maze. The area has been a favourite holiday destination for generations with its wonderful food, including fish and chips, ice cream and a lovely new beach cafe.
  • Like stepping back in time about 40 years which is all part of the character of the place. Probably not for you if farm sounds and smells aren't your thing but we found it not to be a problem at all. A good base for exploring that part of the country or simply for kicking back and relaxing.

    Richard2017-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Pleasant cottage with charm and character, in a nice secluded location off the beaten track. Nearby dairy farm provides that country ambiance. Quite jaded throughout, and in need of investment, sofas have little support and more lighting is needed in the main lounge. Kitchen in particular needs a thorough, deep clean. Trumpet Major pub 10 mins away does decent food, good for families.

    Phillip2017-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful characterful house with load of space, very comfortable and well equipped kitchen its home from home. Simon is very helpful. There is a loverly walk to Nether Cerne, go along the road to the village and back from Nether Cerne along the foot path towards Pound farm. Will definitely go back.

  • The house is great for space. Location is secluded and private. The location is excellent and places of interest were easy to get to from the house. We particularly enjoyed Lulworth Cove on a sunny day, a boat trip from Swanage and the coastal views. We spent quite a lot of time around the house and in the garden. The sun is on the garden for most of the day until early evening. The furniture is old but comfy and there were plenty of seats for us all. The kitchen and dining space was really great, plenty of space to sit around the table and still cook or let the baby charge round in a baby walker! We really enjoyed using the AGA.

    Susan2017-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Pound House is a lovely thatched house next to a working farm in a secluded setting with a nice garden running down to a stream. A real pleasure to stay in. It is a treasure trove of books, old and new, and magazines. The downstairs loo has a crime library! It has a well equipped kitchen plenty big enough to eat and cook in. The lounge, sitting room and bedrooms are comfortable. It is not far from Cerne Abbas which has good pubs and Dorchester for shopping. I would recommend it for a family or a group of friends who want a comfortable rural get away location but not too far from all the sights.

    Robert2017-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Pound House is idyllic and made for a truly memorable family holiday. The house is basic and rough around the edges but in way that adds to the character and makes it magical for the children. The location is perfect for most of Dorset's major attractions and there are plenty of lovely places to eat locally (the Giant inn in cerne Abbas, the Duchess of Cornwall in Poundbury and the wise man in west stafford) We would recommend Summer Lodge in Ever shot for some r and r at the spa too! The house is well equipped for making large meals (there were 8 of us) and there is a wealth of books and board games to keep everyone busy!

    Hayley2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • The house was lovely and in a really nice spot. Simon was a super good host. Very peaceful and cosy house. Will definitely come back again.

  • What a lovely cottage! We spent Christmas break here with 4 friends and were quite upset to have to leave! A short cab ride from Dorchester South station we soon found ourselves at The Pound House which is just outside a working farm. The house itself was a great size, with 2 large sitting rooms we never felt short of space. I imagine should 8 people stay here they would feel equally as comfortable. The furnishings may be dated, but it suits the house wonderfully and we wouldnt change a thing! This is clearly a loved family home of days gone by. We enjoyed a walk along nearby footpaths to the small town of Cerne Abbas to visit the Abbas Giant. It's a picturesque little town and well worth the visit. Quiet and secluded, you will only expect to hear a few cows nearby. We were delighted by the cute stream that ran nearby, and our little doggie adored running around the front gardens. Simon was a perfect host and did everything he could to ensure we had the best stay possible, which we did! Highly recommended and we look forward to visiting again in the future.

  • Philippa's cottage is very very cute and finished to a high standard. The double bed was so comfortable it was like sleeping on a cloud. The village is picturesque and we had fun in the local pub.

  • If you are looking for a remote, quiet and relaxing place to stay this is it! The cottage was warm cosy and 1 min from the pub and shop But you do need to drive at least 20/30 mins to the coast ! The village still has working fox hounds living nearby who are a little nosey in the early hours of the morning but I loved this and even went to the farm to visit them! If you are needing to sit and read and have long days next to a fire or sitting in the garden then this is the Ideal place ! Phillipa was always on hand and quick to help or solve any issues !

  • If you are looking for somewhere you are able to bring your dog to then this two-up, two down, rustic cottage is perfect, especially as the local pub welcomes dogs and even has a jar of dog biscuits on the counter. Guests should be aware though that the staircase is very steep and the ceilings and doorways are low.

We were a party of 5 adults and 2 children and were very comfortably accommodated in this property. The house has all the facilities you need and we were rescued on a rainy morning by a cupboard of books/board games/toys which kept our 5 & 9 year old children happy for good while. The accommodation consists of a suite of three rooms leading off a private landing: the main bedroom with a very comfy King size bed, a secondary bedroom with a double sofa bed that can also be a lovely private little sitting room, and a large luxury bathroom with a roll top bath (overlooking the beautiful view), a walk in shower, vanity unit and loo. There are tea and coffee making facilities, Sky TV, Tennis court, large gardens and grounds, private fields, and glorious walks up a totally unspoilt valley or down the River Frome and through the Water Meadows. Afternoon tea and homemade cake on arrival in the dining room, garden or private sitting room.
We are 20 minutes from the sea, Dorchester and Bridport. Chilfrome is a very quiet and pretty village and there are lovely walks straight from the house. There is an excellent pub in Cattistock - a half mile walk. Summer Lodge is only 3 miles away for a Gourmet dinner or a special afternoon tea. Further excellent gastro pubs 10 minutes drive away (The Acorn in Evershot and The Greyhound in Sydling St Nicholas)
  • We loved our weekend at The Old Rectory. We felt warmly welcomed by Nessie & David, who have created - and lovingly restored - a beautiful home situated in the pretty hamlet of Chilfrome - which is ideally located for exploring south Dorset. We especially liked having our own little wing with a very comfy bed in a generous sized bedroom, a little sitting room and a huge bathroom with a fantastic walk in shower and a bath with a splendid view! Nessie provided a delicious breakfast in the formal dining room - full of gorgeous family antiques. We enjoyed the little touches like the books in the sitting room, the rose water, and the yummy chocolate fudge and scones! Nessie and David helpfully recommended places for sightseeing, walking and dining, and nothing was a problem. Perfect hosts - even though though it turned out we were their first guests!

  • We cannot speak highly enough of Nessie and her family and their beautiful home! Stunning accommodation in gorgeous countryside and well situated for exploring Dorset. Breakfasts were delicious and being greeted with tea and warm scones on arrival couldn't have been more perfect! We hope to be back!

  • Our hosts made us feel incredibly welcome. Vanessa gave us good directions to her very beautiful house. The setting was lovely, the rooms were stylish, immaculately clean and very comfortable. We had a lovely walk to the local pub in the next village where we had supper. Breakfast was delicious. We recommend the Old Rectory without any reservations.

  • A slice of Dorset heaven. A beautiful wing in a stunning house. Nessie and the family are a delight and our stay was just the tonic we needed. We'll be back.

  • What a beautiful, friendly family home, with a beautifullly decorated private suite! We were greeted by Vanessa's husband, David, and their 2 dogs, which delighted us all, particularly my son, Felix! We were served tea and homemade scones on the terrace in the sunshine! Delightful! The suite of rooms and bathroom are stunning! My son was overjoyed to have Sky Movies on the TV in his room! We had a lovely family film night! Vanessa's breakfasts were delicious, with a huge variety of food and pancakes for Felix! Lots of useful top tips for the surrounding area and a delicious pub meal nearby. We had a really wonderful time and would fully recommend this beautiful 'B and B!' Thank you so much!

  • The room and surroundings are beautiful. We spent one night there, and brought our 5 month old puppy too. We all had a great time! It was very dog friendly, with lots of space to run around safely. Lots of beautiful beaches nearby too, highly recommend Cogden. We were also offered a brilliant breakfast at Judy's place in the morning. Can't recommend it enough. It was a great break from London.

  • The Old Forge is a lovely room with private bathroom. The bed is luxurious with soft pillows and super quality cotton duvet and sheet. The room had everything we needed plus little extras. Breakfast is served in Judy's beautiful house and really is superb. The location is pure Dorset. Thoroughly recommend.

  • We spent a blissful few days at The Old Forge in deepest Dorset. It offers privacy and independence, together with hosts nearby to advise and assist when asked. Judy and Tony were exceptionally good hosts and the breakfast they provided will take some beating. The accommodation is first rate in every respect, in a beautiful hamlet but a pleasant walk to the pub. Our hosts were friendly and fun and they made some great recommendations for eating out and sights to visit. We tried these and they were perfect for us (and The Dogginator, who also enjoyed her stay). We've already recommended this property to friends and would happily return. Many thanks to Judy and Tony.

  • Nikki was an amazing host ... sorry we only booked one night! Beautiful airbnb ... spotless ... We loved it! Tx Nikki!

    Leigh2016-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Nikki's place is fantastic, and she's an excellent host. Nikki was always quick to respond during booking and while making arrangements. She was flexible with arrival time, and asked us exactly what we wanted for breakfast. The place itself is beautiful. The area is quiet and all you can hear is the chirping of birds and the babbling of the river. There's a big, welcoming outside area. The room was spotless, and very well kept. Nice big bed, TV, big bath and separate shower, and everything down to the smallest detail has been thought of: soaps, coffee, tea, mugs and glasses, and so on. Nikki has a lovely dog, and the most beautiful cat you'll ever see! She was friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. If you stay here, I'm sure you're going to have a wonderful break.

  • Our stay at Waterfield House was one of the best experiences we have had . Nikki is a lovely host, she was very welcoming and friendly and accommodating. We felt like friends when we left rather than guests! The room was spacious, clean and very nicely furnished. The bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in! Nikki and her family welcomed us in to their family and even offered to take and pick us up from the local pub! The house is in a beautiful location next to a stream and views over rolling fields. The trout, the dog, cat and ducks were also a great entertainment as was the tyre to cross to the other side of the stream!! After falling in, Nikki kindly laundered my trousers straightaway! A great stay in a beautiful house with a very friendly family who are truly embracing the opportunity to have guests in their home!

  • Nikki made us feel very welcome to her home, offering coffee & biscuits on arrival. Our room & ensuite was stunning & spotlessly clean. The king size bed was so comfortable. I could have slept for a week !! Nikki was very attentive throughout our stay, making sure we felt at home. breakfast was exactly as we liked. Bradford Peverell is a pretty village perfectly located for visiting Weymouth, Lulworth cove & across to Poole & the surrounding area,& if you have a book to swap you can use the phone box in the village which has books to swap in it ! The best way to describe our stay is home from home. Thank you Nikki for allowing us to enjoy your home, wish we were able to stay longer ! Will definitely love to return.

  • We had such a nice time here. Nikki and her family are wonderful. She was so accommodating on very short notice, we can't say how much we appreciate her letting us stay at her beautiful home. Attention to detail and spotlessly clean in such a beautiful area. She and her family were incredibly accommodating and even let us watch our football game next to a lovely fire. Would have stayed longer if we could. Lovely people. Lovely house.

Middle Cottage has three bedrooms with a lounge on the ground floor with a breakfast bar. Shower room on the ground floor with another wc upstairs. Basic accommodation generally used for school groups for field trips. No school groups will be at New Barn during your stay. No Kitchen. Set in the middle of 20 acres of our wildflower meadows and woodland, on top of a hill overlooking stunning dorset landscape, yet only 5 mins to Dorchester.
Extremely quite and mellow, with lots of footpaths for country walks, yet the busy seaside town of Weymouth is only 30 mins away or for more serious shopping Bournemouth is around an hour away and Southampton just beyond that.
  • The place is exactly how described. Matthew is very helpful, he provided us all the information we needed. He was kind and let our kids to feed all of his farm animals. We spent great time in his place.

    monika2017-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Matthew and the staff at the New Barn centre were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The setting is an idyllic, rural area and was conveniently placed for us to attend a family get together on the other side of Dorchester. The cottage was very basic as described, though here fell a bit below my expectations. Further, finding the place was difficult as we used the post code on the Sat Nav which sent us to an almost impossible road to traverse. Overall however, the cottage did the job and provided a very nice setting to enjoy.

    Alex2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Mathew was a perfect host. Very promptly responded to all my queries. Received us on arrival. There was an issue with the shower that he resolved. He invited kids to help feed the animals in the morning that they loved. Accommodation is exactly as described, set in a wonderful setting, comfortable beds. We had a very good stay, great value for 9 people, would highly recommend.

  • Matthew's great - really friendly. Nice secluded place for groups

    Andrew2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is in a wonderful setting with beautiful views and a host of unusual facilities designed for the school groups who usually stay here. There is everything from recreated Celtic houses, fire pits and shelters to sheep and a pig. The accommodation is very basic but exactly as described and the bunk beds were surprisingly comfy. For 9 people this is great value and a perfect setting for families who don't mind simple living and love the outdoors.

    Caroline2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Its incredibly basic and no thrills in terms of amenities. we were just looking for a place to crash for the night but ended up with so much more than that - you are surrounded by farmland and nature and a whole host of animals which kids got to feed with Mathew in the morning. Perfect for kids who can roam free and chase an escaped rabbit called midnight. There is no kitchen but a fridge, some cupboards and a communal area as well as picnic tables outside. Mathew has been brilliant- he came to save us when we got lost in the farmlands amongst the wild deer on our way there (use the name rather than postcode in sat nav to avoid our experience) and has been very friendly and forthcoming with everything. I gave 5 stars for cleanliness but its relative - you are surrounded by farmland so kids drag plenty of dirt in very quickly even if it starts of clean and needed a good scrub themselves back home. So definitely not for you if you like things sterile but brilliant if you are looking to experience nature and everything that comes with it.

Peace and luxury come together at Heneford Mill, a 17th century 5 bedroom Mill House, set in 27 acre grounds in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The house has many original features, such as the millstone which is now part of an open fireplace, and is furnished in keeping with its style. The kitchen, warmed by an Aga and with views to the paddock, is a pleasure to cook and dine in. You wake in bedrooms with uninterrupted views over the farmland and rolling countryside and fall asleep to the sound of owls. A large lawn is ideal for barbecues, games, or reclining with a book. Walks in the grounds take you to open fields, river, pond, and woodland, or on to explore the rest of the valley. The night sky, free of light pollution, is excellent for star gazing. Summer hours are happily spent in the outdoor heated swimming pool. The grounds are shared with wildlife, and farm animals. The house is a wonderful base for discovering Dorset as well as neighbouring parts of Somerset and Wiltshire, with their impressive historic and natural sites and their sporting pursuits, and is conveniently situated for local private schools and event venues.
Heneford Mill is a good base for exploring Dorset as well as neighbouring Somerset and Hampshire. Here is a selection of personal favourite outings: Sherborne for Castles and Abbey (15 mins); Cerne Abbas for Cerne Giant (15 min) and the Abbey, and then continue to Mintern Magna (15 min) for Capability Brown gardens and nearby picturesque walks around Upcerne; Maiden Castle (25 min) for a walk around this iron age site; Abbotsbury (30 min) Beach and its subtropical gardens, swannery and children’s farm; Chard (40 min) for Forde Abbey and Gardens; Stourhead (45 min) for country estate and grounds; Wareham (45 min) for its Forest walks or horse riding (see Lulworth Equestrian below), the Tank Museum, Monkey World, and the house of TE Lawrence; Lulworth (50 min) Estate and beaches including Durdle Door’s famous arched rock and Lulworth Cove; Studland Peninsula and Studland Bay (1 hour) for beautiful national trust beaches, the Old Harry Rocks, Corfe Castle, and Swanage Railway steam train; Wells (1 hour) for its cathedral and castle; Stonehenge (1 hour) for one of the most important iron age sites in Europe, and then onto Salisbury for its cathedral containing the original manuscript of the Magna Carta. Activities include historic home/castle visits, walking, cycling, guided fossil hunting, horse riding and horse races, all kinds of water based activities such as sailing and fishing, golf, hot air balloons, quad biking and kart racing, clay shooting, archery, and more.
  • The neighbourhood was lovely. A good escape to the country. Our kids loved the trampoline. Lots of space and a lovely big kitchen. If you are looking for a peaceful break in the countryside with beautiful surrounding areas then this is a good place.

    Maxine2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house and grounds. Spacious and well looked after. Great choice for 3x families with kids. Outdoor pool is heated which was perfect for all the family even on those cooler days. Kitchen is well set up for hosting dinners and large family meals.

    Robert2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful old mill house in large grounds, with a cosy open fire and an aga for the full rural fantasy! There were 10 of us (9 adults, 1 child) and there was plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen is well equipped (made a huge Sunday roast for everyone with no trouble), the bathrooms were clean and modern, and the location is handy for lots of local days out (there is a good selection of maps and guidebooks provided). It is a rural property with a fire so bugs and soot are inevitable but otherwise the property is well maintained and very comfortable. Highly recommended and I would not hesitate to stay again.

    Jenny2016-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Mona's home is perfect for getting away from it all and just relaxing but with plenty of things to do with the children

    Sandra 2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a peaceful, beautiful, rural setting then this is it. The house and grounds are gorgeous and there is literally acres of space for the kids to run around. Plus of course the pool and the extremely popular trampoline, as well as the sheep in the field. Be prepared to drive almost everywhere (there is loads to do in the area within 30 minutes in every direction - Dorset is great). The pub in the village which is within walking distance and has an excellent gastro kitchen.

    Claus2016-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great Easter weekend in Heneford Mill with 3 couples and 6 kids. Mona was a wonderful host to deal with, very quick to respond and extremely forth coming with any advise and help. We sadly never met face to face so all our communication was on email and text. We were however greeted by Sue a local who answered any questions we had.The house is a wonderful family home, the highlights are the massive kitchen with AGA, the fire place in the living room and the stunning master bedroom with incredible views all around. The grounds (including private stream) are vast, sadly the weather didn't allow us to explore much. Thank you Mona for making our stay one to remember!

    Joceline2016-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent stay at Heneford Mill. The house is great with large rooms and an excellent garden and grounds. Plenty of space for the children to play outside and we all loved the pool. Good pub with food in the village Mona provide a comprehensive manual covering both the house and the surrounding area. Everything worked perfectly and there is plenty to do in the area round Sherborne, Dorchester and Yeovil with the coast easily accessible All in all, a very enjoyable stay for all ten of us.

  • Had a fabulous weekend at Lornas barn. Very warm welcome from Lorna, and fresh eggs and homemade marmalade awaiting our arrival. Myself and two friends were looking for a nice relax and thats just what we had!! Lovely peaceful surroundings and fab swims in the pool. Beds are really comfy and towels all soft and fluffy! I would definitely recommend the barn to anyone looking for a getaway in the gorgeous Dorset countryside. Thanks Lorna!

  • A lovely, cosy, clean and comfortable property. The barn is set on the edge of two villages. One with its own shop (great for those essentials missed off the shopping list!) and the other with a fantastic pub where we enjoyed a lovely last night meal and a couple of pints on the first evening. The pool is fantastic – heated to a good temperature; showers "en suite" and with some pool toys for the kids. There are plenty of DVD's and games to keep you entertained on those rainy days and the heating was more than adequate when it was a little chilly out! Would highly recommend!!!

  • Lorna was really friendly and welcoming on our arrival. The barn itself is lovely with open accommodation as shown in the photos. The private outside space was perfect for our dog and the swimming pool was a great bonus and was always empty when we wanted to use it. We really enjoyed exploring the area, it's in a great location but also really peaceful, plus walking distance to the pub in the village!

  • We've just returned from a fantastic stay at Park House Barn. Lorna was a great host and even left us some fudge and fresh eggs to get us started!! We were travelling with a 2-year old and a dog and the layout of the cottage and the land was absolutely ideal. At night when our little girl was asleep, there is a separate exit to an enclosed patio space for the dog so she could go out to do her business without us having to walk past the sleeping toddler's room and possibly disturb her. Likewise, in the morning, the dog could have a run around in a large open space in the adjoining fields whilst our toddler looked at the chickens and horse and play on the swings and the slide. We've been to a number of holiday cottages and this is by far the best layout and it made it so easy to manage. Often we need to figure out who's going to take the dog out and who's going to look after the child but at Park House Barn we could achieve everything without straying too far from the cottage. The swimming pool is a major plus point as well. It's a good size and steady 30/31 degrees so is plenty warm enough for children to swim comfortably. The kitchen is very well equipped and the living area is a very good size. There is a DVD player and plenty of DVDs to choose from as well as a wide selection of books, both for adults and kids. The location is also excellent and we were at the South coast within 45 minutes and there is plenty of stuff to do even closer. All in all a fantastic stay and we'll surely go back.

  • Just wanted to say what a fabulous few days staying in Lorna's converted barn. Lorna and Andrew were so friendly and helpful and we found the accomodation superb. The Barn is well furnished, clean and having the indoor pool to use was an added bonus. The surroundings are quiet and peaceful and would highly recommend.

    Michael2016-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I, along with our dog, spent three fabulous days at Lorna and Andrew's Park Barn. We were welcomed by Lorna who is so friendly and generous and such an accommodating host. She welcomed us too with a delicious home baked cake and cookies as well as her home made marmalade - delicious. Oh and half a dozen eggs from her hens too! The barn is beautifully designed with everything you need on hand. We loved the fact that we looked out onto fields, horses, cows and chickens. The barn is decorated to a high standard and there are many lovely touches throughout. The indoor swimming pool was fantastic too - perfect for an evening swim before a glass of wine on the balcony terrace overlooking the beautiful Dorset countryside! Lorna gave us lots of useful information about the surrounding area. There are many lovely towns and villages to visit, including the Jurassic coast. It's a lovely part of England. We highly recommend the barn to anyone wanting the perfect rural idyll. We couldn't have asked for a more peaceful, refreshing and enjoyable break. Thank you Lorna and Andrew for a wonderful stay at the barn.

This is my darling cottage set in the delightful village of Melbury Osmond/"Little Hintock" in Thomas Hardy's book "The Woodlanders" and perfectly placed to reach many of the wonderful things that Dorset has to offer - the Jurassic Coast, the charming villages of Cerne Abbas, Evershot and Cattistock and the quaint towns of Beaminster and Sherborne. There are many lovely walks around - an amble with the dog, The Hardy Way nearby or a walk through Melbury deer park to the Acorn Inn at Evershot.
A great place for family holidays or weekends with friends, a Dorset institution in fact where many of my Dorset friends have had much jollity and fun. Shabby chic in style, this is for guests who enjoy a slightly bohemian quirky property with its coloured walls, cosy wood burner, cottage rooms with rural views in a wonderful rural setting. 25 minutes to the coast and beaches Located in wonderful Dorset countryside in a very pretty village Located almost "in the middle of the county" which provides great access to many parts of Dorset Close to the A37 which gives good access into and around the county Railway station (Yeovil Junction) c.5 minutes away - trains from London Waterloo or the Bristol/Bath/Castle Cary (line to London Paddington) Weymouth line can be picked up at Yetminster also 5 minutes away. Surrounded by good restaurants, archetypal Dorset villages and towns and many things to do (information provided in the cottage or please ask) Dogs welcome but please check with me first High speed broadband (c.52MB) DVD player with films Wood burning stove Rayburn (similar to an AGA) which is on all the time (unless it is exceptionally hot weather) A gun cabinet for shooting weekends Washing machine/drier Dishwasher Small bathroom with bath (no shower), washbasin and WC Downstairs WC with washbasin The sun room is lovely to sit in and read the paper or to kick off muddy boots Large gravelled parking area for 3/4 cars or 3 cars and a boat (c. 6m). Large garden mainly laid to lawn (not enclosed) to sit out in An old tennis table is available by prior arrangement BBQ Tennis court nearby which can be used by guests (£10 for unlimited use subject to availability - key code required). Heating: A Rayburn in the Dining Room runs several radiators full time and there is additional electric heating. Not suitable for children under 3 years old. Sorry no smoking in the house or sun room please! Milk for tea/coffee and tea and coffee will be available. Bedlinen, towels, soap and lavatory paper is provided.
Melbury Osmond is located in one of the prettiest parts of Dorset bordering the 'Cattistock country' with its green undulating land which gets more dramatic as you weave your way to the coast 25 minutes away. It could be said that it is in the centre of the county and access to many of the iconic Dorset landmarks are within 1/2 hour's drive in any direction. The village features in one of the great writer, Thomas Hardy's books 'The Woodlanders' and in fact his mother was brought up in the village and her cottage still stands. It is one of the 'choice villages' in estate agents speak with its lovely period properties, handsome church and 'the Splash' - a small brook that crosses the village road and flanks the Melbury Estate with its parkland. The cottage is rural but not isolated with houses around. It is semi-detached but with a degree of privacy.
  • Beautiful house and a great location to explore the area, we had a great day at Burton Bradstock with an amazing seafood platter at The Hive Beach Cafe, great recommendation by Catherine. Would highly recommend

  • Cottage was musty and damp. Soft furnishing smelt. Showering facility very poor. Garden unkept.

  • We did not end up using the place as planned but Kate was great and very organised with reaponsive comms. We will definitely be organising another trip

  • We stayed in Catherine's cottage as a family of 5. The house was very cosy, clean and well equipped. We quite loved its " quirkiness"! Part of the quirkiness is having to improvise in order to have a shower. Should be no issue for guests who like to take a bath. Catherine is a very helpful host, & she made us feel most welcome. We keep this place in mind for a next holiday in the UK!

  • This is a sweet quirky cottage. We stayed for just one night so use of facilities was minimal. We really enjoyed having breakfast in the conservatory surrounded by the plants.

  • Wonderful area for walks. Interesting old cottage and garden with good beds, a functional kitchen and a charming sunroom. We loved to stay in the cottage and found Thomas Hardy's trail nearby and his parents wedding attestation in the local church. Kate has made a useful information book. We didnt meet Kate but communicated flexibly with her during the stay. Thanks and cheers Niels Christian Mossfeldt Nickelsen and family

  • We really enjoyed our night at the cottage - it's warm, cosy and homely, and also well-equipped and the Wi-Fi is excellent. There's plenty to do and see in the vicinity and Catherine was friendly and easy to keep in touch with. Thanks! :)

    Dominic2017-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Jo is located a short walk from the centre of the village where there are three pubs to choose from for drinks and food. Jo is a great host, a very friendly and interesting person. Don't expect 5* luxury, although you will be well looked after.

  • We arrived late (9.30pm) and it wasn't a problem, Jo was so lovely and friendly. Very welcoming and was firstly concerned if we were hungry and did we need food which was very thoughtful. As well as a variety of snacks such as bread, spreads, fresh milk, coffee/tea/wine and crackers, Jo also offered her own homemade elderflower cordial which gave such a personal touch to the caravan. All of the facilitates were of the level you'd expected from a caravan which were of good standard. The bed was very comfortable, I had a great night sleep and wasn't cold at all. Sweet little town and Jo made some great local recommendations regarding food and sights which we enjoyed very much. Thank you Jo for looking after us :)

  • Neither me nor my friend Katie had stayed in a caravan before so we weren't sure what to expect. It was clean and warm and had all mod cons. Jo and her partner Mark made us feel so welcome and recommended places to eat in the village, and places to visit during our stay. Jo took us for a walk up the Cerne Abbas giant and pointed out local landmarks we never would have noticed. Without a doubt staying here was the highlight of the trip, we were very lucky to have such friendly and accommodating hosts. Definitely will visit again.

  • Lovely welcoming hosts and a cosy caravan stay. A few minutes walk from the village pubs and shops

    James2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We booked the caravan at the last minute as we were visiting friends nearby and wanted somewhere cheap and convenient to stay. It was ideal for us as we were not expecting to be spending much time in the caravan, mainly just for sleeping etc. Jo was very welcoming and friendly and ensured that we had everything we needed. As she has explained herself, it wouldn't be ideal for someone expecting a four star hotel experience, but more for those used to camping / caravanning. The location was ideal, being just round the corner from the Cerne Abbas giant, with local pubs and amenities 5 mins away. Would recommend.

    anthony2015-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my daughter loved it at jo' she makes you feel so welcome and helpful. Jo took us round the village and for a lovely walk sharing the local history we had a great time. I know the caravan is basic however it doesn't matter it's so much better than going in a tent. We are definitely going back as we loved Jo and the area around. Thank you for a lovely weekend

    Katrina2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • What you pay is what you get. But having said Jo's hospitality is more than what you paid for. Enjoyed our first experience in a Caravan. Central location to visit anywhere in Dorset. Would certainly visit again.

    anushuya2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Had a good time staying in Jo's cosy and comfortable caravan. Location is peaceful and the area is fantastic for walking. Basic foodstuffs and water provided and booking showers was easy and worked well. Public transport limited but reliable for travellers without cars. Well worth a visit.

    Christine2016-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet location and very friendly hosts. Good location for exploring the area. Car parking was about 50 yards away, but this didn't cause any problems. I wasn't able to enjoy the cooked breakfast due to time limitations, but next time I will. Recommended for something slightly unusual!

  • Beautiful, charming, magical and many many more superlatives. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Laundry Cottage. From the moment we arrived we were impressed by the little things which had been done to make us feel welcome and when it was time to leave it was with a sad heart that we closed the door and put the key back in the drop box. Our holiday continues but a little piece of us remains in Evershot.

This is a 1970's bungalow with a garden on 2 sides, very private, with a great view of the village. Private parking for 2/3 cars. Wooden floor, open fire, outside patio warmer, pool table. We will either be off surfing, or in one of the caravans close by. The house can actually take 4 more people on the sofa and on the floor on a blow up bed. It actually has a third bedroom/office but we are keeping that un-let for storage. We have 2 other vintage caravans to let with Airbnb.
2 Bed bungalow in the idyllic and beautiful village of Cerne Abbas in Hardy's Dorset countryside. Close to the beach and county town of Dorchester; we will have to leave the cat with you, would you please feed her for us!!!! She is called Delia is black with a white bib. (There are two caravans which sleep 2 people in each; which you may decide to also hire, each have their own cassette toilets and kitchen areas but no shower facilities or running water, they all run on electric as I would worry too much about everyone’s safety if anyone was using gas – if you want to book the caravans please message me as I will block them off when I receive a booking for the whole house and the same for the double room) Cerne Abbas Village The village has three pubs (the new Inn – high quality food – the Royal Oak – a food and drinking pub flagged floor – the Giant – basic food and a drinking pub) all serve food, a shop - which sells everything (say hello to Andrew the proprietor) a cafe, bus to Dorchester and the most amazing soft rolling countryside and stream running through the village and the Chalk Giant man. I have left details in the house in a folder for your use. The church has a fresco dating back to the Norman era, also some historical boards explaining about Oliver Cromwell, that the village chose not to have a railway and Dorchester took over – there used to be 18 ish pubs here and it was really a small town. There was an abbey, the remaining tower can be seen by visiting the main house, a well which is for pagan and Christian worship – very beautiful and near the grave yard, some fantastic walks. The village of Sydling St Nicholas has a lovely pub – fab food called the Greyhound. You are 20 minutes from the Coast and close to Sherborne, seaside town of Weymouth & Portland, Dorchester, and 20 ish miles from Bournmouth, swannage, Corfe Castle and the white sands of Studland beach. Have a look at Cerne Abbas on wikipedia and the national trust website for the Cerne Abbas Giant. We have a bus running every 2 hours into Dorchester and Sherborne. Weymouth Ferries to the Channel Islands cheap foot passenger day tickets. There is so much to see. Guests have the whole house minus the 3rd bedroom/office, Locks – when locking doors you need to pull the door handle up and then lock or unlock afterwards as they are mortice locks. Kitchen An open plan kitchen and sitting room. The AGA is on in the Autumn/Winter, there is a hob and oven, pans are in the kitchen area and cutlery; plates are in the sitting room in a big cabinet next to the grandfather clock. Small breakfast bar. Conservatory and covered Pergola This has a dining table, church bench, washing machine and freezer and fridge, toaster and prep area. Extra chairs behind the church bench. Door out to the Pergola which is covered and has white and black vines, and the pool table which of course is available for you to use. Drive and Garden There is garden to two sides of the house very private and green, 5 apple trees, rhubarb and an outside eating area. The drive is at the front and will take 3 cars at a push, but please do not block the neighbours as they own the drive but we have access. They are lovely people. Bathroom Shower, the bath at the moment is not available for use as I have drained the tank. The electric shower is started with a pull switch at the door, there is also one for the fan and light. Toilet rolls should be in the bathroom and spares in the water closet- towels are here as well. I leave the shower head off because we have a massive build-up of lime scale. Bedroom 1 King-sized bed, we leave our belongings in the wardrobe so I will leave a shorterm hanging rail in there for you. Bedroom 2 A small double bed also called a ¾ bed, it takes 2 small people. My partner and I can both sleep in it. Again our belongings are in here there is some hanging space on the outside of the wardrobe. Open plan sitting room There is another dining table and chairs in here, an open fire, TV and small leather sofa, which pulls out into a sleeping position but is not a sofa bed, 1 rattan chair. There are two blow up beds that you could use if any guests are staying in the sitting room. We have Wifi if you need to use it the password is on the back and the hub is in the sitting room near the window.
