Our unique Flax Pod cabin is a repurposed shipping container with cool views of Golden Bay. It suits a couple, has a queen bed, sofa and basic kitchen facilities. Bifolding doors open onto a deck where you can totally relax, enjoy a cold beer and soak up the sea views. Its in a great location and a great base to explore Golden Bay from. Enjoy getting back to the basics, dozing in a hammock, a friendly weka or two and a spectacular night sky.
The Flax Pod cabin is a converted shipping container and although pretty basic and very diy, it is warm, comfortable and in a cool location. Its a bit like glamping with its basic kitchen facilities, hot outdoor shower and composting toilet. The kitchen has a fridge, toaster, jug, double stove top, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery - you should find everything you need. There is no microwave or oven. The views from the Flax Pod are pretty awesome. You can see over the ocean out towards Farewell Spit and into the western ranges. It is on a newly purchased property which we are regenerating back into native bush. We are still in the early stages of landscaping. It is usually quiet and peaceful, although we do have kids being kids. You are free to wonder down to the stream area where the native trees are restoring and where, along the stream edge, you can see glow worms at night. We also have a caravan to rent and space for 4 campervans to park down by the stream. Our family home is close by but you have your own space and we won't disturb you. If you fancy an evening sitting around our wee fire pit and gazing at the stars while toasting marshmallows, bring some small firewood or grab an armload of drift wood from the local beach. We supply wood to start you off. BBQ available on request.
Quiet neighbourhood shared with local people and local wildlife. It has stunning views in every direction and the valley is clad in trees. A very special place with lots of birds such as kereru, weka, kea, tui, bellbird.
  • it was the best airbnb we stayed in so far. :) Very tidy, cosy and such a nice view, especially the sunset.

  • We had an awesome time in this "container". I would totally recommend to stay there for a few days. We had the most beautiful sunsets and stunning views. The hosts are lovely and very helpful.

We are situated about a 10 min drive to beginning of northern end of Abel Tasman Nat Park. Continental Breakfast which includes yoghurt, fresh fruit, bread, milk and spreads. We have two rooms available, both of which you will have to yourselves on booking. 1 bedroom with 2 single beds and the other in the main area has a King size bed. Also separate laundry/toilet/shower area. Private entry and completely private to our upstairs dwelling. We can offer you a 10% discount with the local kayak Comp.
The apartment is two bedroom studio style, but very large (approx 70 sqm) with private entry. We can offer you a local discount with the Kayaking company here called Golden Bay Kayaking Company. The apartment is below our house with private entry and deck with small garden so all in all the area is very private from the house. We are 100m from Tata Beach; a beautiful beach with golden sand and mountainous backdrop. You can swim at the beach at all tides, and all year round (in winter too if you're brave). Behind the studio is direct access to an estuary (for times when the beach is too rough). The studio is equipped with everything you need to cook (a full oven, microwave, stove and refrigerator) and has a veranda for you to dine outside on warm, summer nights. We provide a continental breakfast which includes the choice of 4 cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit of the season, spreads and either raw milk or supermarket milk - your choice! Plunger coffee and teas. 100% fruit juice. Rhubarb freely available from our garden as is lettuce and herbs outside the apartment for your use. We have lived here at Tata Beach for 30 years and walked the Abel Tasman, Heaphy and Cobb Valley tracks many times. We are only a 10 minute drive to the Northern end of the Abel Tasman track and can be used as a base for tramping there without having to stay in the huts etc. We are happy to help you with your plans and give you advice on the most picturesque or challenging hikes, climbs, kayak adventures or picnic spots in the area. We are part of the local walking and cycling groups and would be more than happy to take you along for the ride. Double kayak, single kayak , paddle boards and classes are all available for hire just down the beach and we can offer a 10% discount on booking a stay with us, bikes may also be available for hire in town. Golden Bay is a relaxing location, so we ask that our guests are quiet when they share our house (we live above the studio). We can advise on the best places to have dinner and best markets to visit to take advantage of the local produce and crafts.
Close to beaches for swimming, kayaking, or just lazing on the beach. We are on a peninsular so surrounded by water either side (estuary is our backyard) so you can have a coffee on our Jack and Jill Macrocarpa seat while you watch the water come in or go out. On the beach side Tata Beach is the only beach within the Golden Bay area that is swimmable at all tides.
  • We had a fantastic stay at Neville and Debby’s apartment. The location was perfect, the apartment had everything we needed and was very very clean and comfortable, and Neville and Debby were great hosts. We especially loved the homemade goodies provided (jams, Greek yogurt, desserts, etc) and freshly roosted coffee. We really hope to return again some day!

    Brittany2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place with really caring hosts!

    Gernot2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Delightful and so very welcoming! If you are looking for a get away in The Golden Bay I cant recommend Neville’s and Debby’s place enough, perfect location for the Able Tasman. Definitely one to book and we hope we’ll be back

    Graham2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning location, estuary in front and just a short walk down a path down on the other side to Tata Beach, one of the most beautiful in the country. The owners are upstairs and friendly and attentive to your needs and the unit has everything you need and many extras you wouldn't expect. Home baking, fresh milk, home roasted coffee....the list goes on. Highly recommended.

    Natasha2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Neville’s place is a perfect place to slow down and chill. Golden Bay was amazing and being steps away was outstanding. Neville is a great host with a ton of local knowledge.

    Tory2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I loved staying here. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Neville was very friendly and gave lots of good recommendations. Highly recommend to anyone staying in the area!

    Allyssa2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The property matched the descriptions. In addition, we were well supplied with delicacies such as cakes, chocolate, coffee, fruits and herbs from the garden. Neville had plenty of tips for special destinations. A pleasant and quiet stay.

    Peter2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We totally enjoyed our stay with Neville & wife Debbie in their peaceful home at Tata Beach in Golden Bay. This experience offers several amenities above & beyond what most offer: quick immediate access to a large beautiful beach; views of an estuary behind the home, sitting on special bench and enjoying the full moon there, (if you are lucky)! There are many opportunities for great walks, hikes, sunsets, birds, waterfalls, & wonderful friendly, helpful, & informative hosts. We were most impressed with the large assortment of breakfast, Items available such as juice, cereals, tea, special coffee, ginger slices , fruit, bread, & a large milk. The drive around Golden Bay is also a plus. Accordingly, we enthusiastically recommend this stay (on the northern tip of South Island) to others. Be aware of what they say,”New Zealand roads are different. Allow extra time!” We have seldom experienced anything like the Tata Hill, with it’s many curves, but one does get used to it ... at least a little! *** It’s all worth it!***

Situated at the top of New Zealand’s South Island and adjacent to the Abel Tasman National Park, Wainui Bay has a slow pace of life with an abundance of natural beauty - perfect for a holiday retreat. Many elements of New Zealand life the way it used to be, are still remaining in Wainui Bay. There’s a small family run farm, lots of native birds and no shops and people still have time to go to the beach. When it comes to natural beauty, Wainui Beach is one of Golden Bay's finest examples and is within easy walking distance of Golden Bay Hideaway. It's a great beach for swimming or exploring the rock pools and sandspit. Standup paddleboarding or kayaking are highly recommended!! If you pick your tides, a rock-hopping trek to Taupo Point is an adventurous highlight with an old Maori pa site, historical links to Abel Tasman and the first landing of Europeans in New Zealand. Taupo Point is a special place and is considered to have sacred value to the local community and iwi. Beautiful sheltered coves and small islands surround it - dolphins, seals, sea birds and schools of fish are often found here. and of course there are the well-formed walking trails of the Abel Tasman National Park.
  • Lawrence and Kylie’s house truck is an absolutely special, cosy, inspiring experience. The location is breathtaking, the outdoor bath is amazing... it’s just so worth a try!!!

    Sophie2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Fun to try the truck. It truly is a tiny house so well decorated. We liked the tub outside which was great after a long day in Abel Tasman national park with a lot of walking and kayaking (R&R kayaks) and in the morning we sat outside and enjoyed the view.

    Lise2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Four relaxing days and nights in a beautifully decorated house truck - in a stunning environment in a clearing in the forest overlooking the Bay! Wonderful ... I could have cancelled our next 20 days to stay longer, but my family wanted to move on to see more of NZ 😉 And very friendly hosts!

    Christian2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • So relaxing. The interior of the truck is just gorgeous. Loved our two night stay so much.

    Anna2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot recommend Lawrence and Kylie’s place more the location is beautiful and the hospitality was great!

    Mia2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • The truck is a great way to turn off from daily life. You are almost forced by the location. The truck itself is well equipped for a small space. The bath with a bottle of wine is delightful. The local area is amazing, we went sea kayaking, saw a waterfall and a caves. I wish we had more time around golden bay.

    Oliver2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Such a special place to stay, beautiful location, quirky accommodation which was cosy and comfy. It felt like we were on a little adventure. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful and I would not hesitate to recommend. Our 5 and 6 year olds absolutely loved the truck and their imaginations were in overdrive as they pretended to drive all over the place! The friendly weka were a bonus too. All in all a little bit of fun in paradise.

    Kelly2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The house truck is an absolute must! It was so cosy and the location is beautiful, just a short drive away from the beautiful Wainui Falls. The outdoor bath/shower is definitely a highlight!

We (your hosts) also live on the property about 35 meters from the Tent area. There are lots of trees and greenery between the dwellings so plenty of privacy. Again, there is only 1 tent on the property and a caravan in it's own self-contained separate zone. We also often have abundant fruit and produce and certain times of year that we love to share with our guests. This beautiful and incredible land has been created and managed as a full Permaculture organic garden and self-sufficiency lifestyle block. Permaculture is the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive systems which have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems. It is the harmonious integration of the landscape with the people which provides their food, energy, shelter and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way. Permaculture integrates people into Nature's design. Spending time here allows you to be embraced and nurtured by this natural design. You can be at one with the elements as you enjoy your breakfast with the sun shining upon you in the outdoor picnic area. We live on half an acre of luscious soil with our very own stream which runs year round. We aim to grow as much of our own food as possible. We have fruit and nut trees: peach, apple, plum, grapes, nashi, hazelnut, walnut, avocado, lemon, macadamia, feijoa, fig, kiwifruit, mandarin, orange, and pear. We have our own chickens for fresh eggs. We have beehives that pollinate the fruit and nut trees and provide us with the most delicious honey! As fruit is in season, you can pick your own straight from the tree for the BEST-tasting, freshest fruit you have ever had. You can nibble your way through the gardens and enjoy a meditative sit on the sea view deck taking in the multitude of natural smells and sounds. The Glamping Tent is a professionally designed and manufactured 5 by 3 meter canvas tent with a 2 meter covered verandah. You will lay your head to rest next to a babbling stream as the sound of the water gently lulls you to sleep. Abundant Native bird song will awake you in the morning within the natural rhythms of daybreak. We have tui, kereru, thrush, blackbird, bellbird, piwakawaka, weka, kea, and more. The morning and evening sun glow through the tent and warm it throughout the day. There is a large main door and 2 windows, all complete with insect screens. Your Glamping tent includes a Queen size bed, chairs, shelves, dresser, mini-fridge, futon couch, as well as, electricity providing charging facilities if necessary. There is an electric blanket on the bed for extra warmth should you need it. There is a futon couch that pulls out to a double bed for additional guests. It MAY be possible to add an extra mattress onto the floor beside the queen bed for a 5th person/kid, but it would be pretty tight. Tea and coffee making facilities and goodies are offered as part of your Glamping experience. The Glamping Tent very comfortably accommodates 2 adults, with space for up to 2 additional children or adults, making it the perfect family nature holiday getaway. You may also want to consider booking our 'Humble Kiwiana Caravan' for additional guests/kids. All extra guests within the tent (including children) requiring a bed to be made up will be an additional $20 per night. Please add additional guests when making your booking. Pets are allowed with prior approval and must sleep outside of the tent. We look forward to hosting you and sharing our wee slice of paradise!
We live across the street from our local Marae (Maori meeting place). We live in a quiet neighborhood and in a community of friendly, helpful, and caring people. Beautiful Pohara beach is just a 600 meter stroll away. The beach is an endless expanse of ever-changing beauty as the tide moves a great distance between high and low. It is a great place to walk, run, explore, swim, frolic, ride horses, fly a kite, kayak, ride a blo-kart, relax, read, or walk your dog. We even have our very own NZ Little Blue Penguins residing nearby, who are shy but very entertaining. The Tarakohe wharf is also only a 15-20 minute walk with great access to fishing, sailing and boating. There is ample rock climbing within walking distance all along the sea frontage. We are at the gateway to the top end of the Abel Tasman National Park (the quietest most untouched areas are up on the top end). There are endless pristine beaches to explore, kayak, or walk along, as well as waterfall and bush tracks. Some of Golden Bay's best restaurants are within walking distance, such as the San Souci Inn and Ratanui Lodge. For any easy inexpensive meal pick up some fish & chips or pizzas from the local takeaways at Pohara General Store. Aroha Health Spa just down the road providing a range of relaxing therapies and treatments to pamper you after a long day exploring :)
  • Very cool and different bnb, it really is glamping. Beautiful yard with vegetables and apple trees. Having a fridge was great and the outdoor cooking area worked great for dinner and breakfast. Only negative I could say is not being able to connect to wifi.

  • Shanti has created a very unique glamping style experience. Very comfortable glamping tent with a few creature comforts of home. The outdoor shower was a lovely experience & nodding off to sleep to the sound of a running stream was very relaxing. This is a place to switch of from technology as there is no TV & very limited phone service. It forces you to enjoy your surroundings.

    Melissa2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic experience! Learned a great deal on sustainable living and where I need to improve. Fun outdoor kitchen and open facilities.

    Jordan 2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most special place. Perfect for an off-grid escape but with lots of little luxuries that make it feel homely and super comfortable. The outdoor shower and kitchen were amazing and we loved being able to sit on the deck to watch the sunsets. It was the perfect base for exploring Abel Tasman too. Thank you Shanti & Isla - this is permaculture paradise and we feel so lucky to have experienced it! x

    Sian2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay at Shanti’s little piece of paradise and perfect place to prep for the Abel Tasman walk (40 min drive to Totaranui). Garden and animals were amazing! Outdoor shower was epic.

    Peggy2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • My sister and I spent a lovely 3 days on Shanti’s amazing land surrounded by her beautiful trees and gardens . The tent was comfy and well organised with lots of helpful extras ( torches, anti mosquito coils, local guidebooks and information ) and an excellent supply of tea and coffee. The brook running by creates a very restful atmosphere and you really feel you are away from the bustle of everyday life. The outdoor shower was amazing and we enjoyed the outdoor kitchen ( admittedly the great weather helped) and sitting up at the ‘look out’ with the views over the land. Shanti was very warm and welcoming and we also enjoyed meeting her daughter , her beautiful cat and a variety of chickens.....

    Mary2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoy peace and happiness with limited internet in a simple charming permaculture surrounding - perfect for relaxing and as a basis for the Abel Tasman North entry. Loved all of it, incl. the water stream all night long!

    Martin2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Shanti’s place was amazing. The sounds of the stream to go to sleep, the outdoor shower and fabulous calmness were just what we needed. The tent and caravan suited our family perfectly. We stayed for 5 nights and it was hard to leave as we enjoyed staying here so much.

Much on offer and all of Golden Bay to explore. We recommend 2 day stay. Our kiwi bach style cottage sits in extensive peaceful gardens. It is self-contained, views from deck, a full kitchen, your own bathroom and all the linen you will need. It is all provided at excellent value and includes use of bbq and pizza oven(we light and supply dough). This is good quality kiwi style accommodation, lots of fun at a very good price. Lots of advise on making the most of your visit.
Fully self contained with your own kitchen and bathroom - towels and linen provided. The chalet is 'cosy warm' has wifi, freeview and great view to the sea in a garden full of features - you'll love it, right in the heart of Golden Bay!
Hayley and I believe Golden bay offers everyone what they are looking for in New Zealand. A unique community from farmers to artists are very welcoming. A mix of walks, stunning beaches, water falls, forest, hills, caves all easy to access - and then cafe's, galleries, music - just speak to us and we will point you in the right direction.
  • Up for an unique stay? This is the place. We had a wonderful and authentic little holiday at the sandcastle with small adventures for kids as well as adults. Awesome pizza night and sheep’s and horses for the kids to check out. The hospitality of the owner Steven is endless. Situated close to the entrance of Abel Tasman park makes it easy to explore this area and it is also close to some beautiful beaches so you can relax. This has indeed been a great place to visit and we would definitely go back if we got the chance.

  • We had a lovely stay at the Sandcastle. The accomodation was very cute and had everything we needed for our stay. We also enjoyed the walking distance to Pohara beach. We wished we could have stayed longer. Reccomended!

    Hanneke2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • The cottages are arranged around the garden, where Steve organizes a kind of community life around the pizza oven on certain evenings. Nice garden, beautiful view towards the sea, guaranteed tranquility, calm and relaxation guaranteed. An address in the spirit of Golden Bay!

    Odile2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay at Steve’s place, definitely a great base to explore Golden Bay from. Very authentic kiwi accommodation, and top location!

Modern architectural kiwi bach nestled on the edge of a tidal lagoon between Ligar Bay and Tata Beach. The Bach is a cosy, compact 50sqm with a large sheltered and covered deck with all day sun and a master bedroom that links on to a compact lounge and ensuite bathroom, dining and kitchen area from either side - all with full views of the water.
The main bedroom has an ensuite with a double door so if extra guests are staying in the pod they can access easily from the outside. 2 guests sleep comfortably inside the queen bed in master bedroom and if needed theres also a pull out sofa in the main lounge. 2 extra guests or kids can sleep in the sleeping pod that is 2 metres from the main house also with views of the lagoon and beyond. The pod is fully powered with plywood walls and ceilings, a fold out office desk, drawers and a queen sized bed. A walk down a 10 metre path and you can use the 2 kayaks to launch straight into the lagoon at high tide and paddle out to the nearby swimming holes, Ligar Bay and Tata Islands. At low tide it's a 2 minute walk to nearby Mermaid Rock - a beautiful family friendly swimming beach with shallow water and rope swings for the kids or you can walk round the road at any time of day. The popular golden sand of Tata beach is a 2 minute drive away (10 minute walk) and is great for days lounging in the sun or taking the boat out. The huge lawn in front the Bach is great for Badminton, kubb, or kicking a ball around with friends. Theres ample parking off the road for at least 3 cars - or you can bring your boat if you want - theres plenty of fish in the bay. Please note the place is minimal for a reason - we believe in an uncluttered life and hey - you should be spending your time outside exploring the bay! We find guests spend most of the time lounging on the outdoor deck and if it rains, theres plenty of cover so you can eat, drink and socialise, taking in the stars, moon and sea and keep dry and warm. It's compact inside with the kitchen, dining table and lounge all in one room. You then step up to a private bedroom with ensuite. There's a fully private hot outdoor shower as a second option to the inside one. It's great for washing the sand off after a dip or just if you feeling like getting back to nature . It's a great place to escape, forget whats on the other side of the hill and enjoy the beautiful golden bay life.

  • What a great place! A really relaxing retreat, so peaceful and well equipped with idyllic views across the water. Perfect location for Abel Tasman National Park. We loved watching the tide coming in, watching the fish jump and listening to the birds.

  • Excellent place to stay. Great location and loved the house.

    David2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Truely beautiful spot, stylishly put together and extremely comfortable. We had a great time with our toddler and infant, paddling in the lagoon and running around on the lawn. And then gazing out at the lagoon and bush once the kids were asleep. Great proximity to Tata Bach, drive, kayak or walk. Also a great location to venture off on day trips to the various wonders of Golden Bays. Effortless communication and clear instructions may for an incredibly easy stay. We will be back!

  • This beautiful, homely bach was everything we imagined and more. We had an amazing time with our family. Perfect for kids, lots and space and amazing amenities. The home itself has been incredibly well thought out, and a highlight for us was the large hallway connecting the 2 wings of the bach, but doubling as a glorious, sun-soaked relaxation den! Rebecca was a great communicator and very accommodating of our change in dates request. We will be back.

Little Greenie was the first and only house in New Zealand to get a 9 out of 10 Hers rating (energy efficiency). The original work of art. Check out our other houses on Airbnb: • The Amazing House Truck! • Kiwi Greenie, Ecohouse • Tiny Greenie, Tiny Ecohouse • Hippie House
PRICING: Peak Season: Dec-Mar, $265 Mid Season: Apr-May + Oct-Nov, $235 Winter Season: Jun-Sep, $165 All prices are for 2 people and are per night. $30/night per extra person. A $100 cleaning fee per stay is added - the longer you stay the cheaper it works out. For the holiday maker interested in what Golden Bay Hideaway has to offer, Little Greenie may appear to be just another modern, professionally finished house with stunning views in a beautiful location. Of course everyone will notice some differences sooner or later, but those interested in environmental technology and smart building will find the differences go right down to the foundations. Little Greenie is designed with four major principles in mind: Energy efficiency, low maintenance/longevity, ease of construction and value for money. It may be modern, but it’s not about frills or fashion; and while it is unashamedly utilitarian, it’s definitely not drab or boring. Brand new, passive solar, off-grid, low energy eco home with an unbeatable view and total privacy. 9star HERS rating out of 10 (Home Energy Rating System). No other home in New Zealand has been awarded a nine before! Little Greenie is the show home of Eco-action Design and Build. If you want to enjoy the still winter days in Golden Bay, this house catches all the afternoon sun, stores it, and is HOT!! ** Perfect couples retreat ** Mountain/estuary and sea views ** Modern conveniences ** Bath under the stars ** Craftsman's attention to detail ** Extremely energy efficient ** Warm all year round ** Comfortably sleeps two ** Only accommodation at the northern end of Abel Tasman National Park There's no TV but you'll be entertained all the same: Beautiful Sunsets - over the water in winter and the mountains in summer. Walk to Wainui Falls -through lush original forest and over a swing bridge. Go swimming or birdwatching - the clear waters around Wainui Bay are ideal Paddleboarding and kitesurfing - awesome spot with northwesterly winds, flat water in the estuary with high tide and waves out in the beach. Facilities: * Sleeps up to two people * Electricity * Hot and cold running water * Radio and CD player * Fully equipped kitchen with tea, coffee/plunger, sugar, milk powder * King-size bed or two single beds * Linen and bedding provided * Covered parking * Underfloor heating The closest restaurants and cafes are in Pohara, 15 min drive back toward Takaka, where there is also a mini supermarket which sells a range of food and wine. The closest supermarket is in Takaka, about 25 km from our place. We don't have internet facilities, but there is 3G reception in the area if you bring your own device.
  • Beautiful views!!!

  • WOW! This place is one that you don't want to snooze on. This was our favorite place that we stayed during our trip to New Zealand. The view is absolutely stunning and the stylish space is one you won't forget. We loved the big sliding doors, giving a great feeling of indoor/outdoor living. We also LOVED using the tub at night. It was so fun and we got some great stars one night! I would highly recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a peaceful, beautiful place to stay. The location is also amazing with the Abel Tasman Track, Wainui Falls and beach all right down the street. Thanks again for the amazing stay!

Wainui Bay, Golden Bay, New Zealand

Newly built and nestled on the hill between beautiful Wainui bay and Totaranui beaches, right next to the famous Abel Tasman National park, this little bush cottage offers outstanding views and privacy amongst NZ native bush. Totos Bush Cottage is an earth building, entirely off the grid, crafted by ourselves from sustainable, natural materials, a place where comfort meets paradise!
Totos Bush Cottage is newly built and is an eco-friendly building constructed with a "back to nature" spirit where guests can feel part of the natural surroundings, with comfort. It is made of clay from the site itself and straw, using an 10 000 years old technique called cob, which many pioneers employed when settling in New Zealand. Located on a hillside amongst the native bush that is home to a variety of native birds, like the reclusive south island Tomtit, Bellbirds, Wekas, grey warbler, etc. Wether you wish to recline under the shade of a tree fern and let nature massage your worries away, visit some of the many delights the Northern Abel Tasman National park, the choice is all yours. The main building is a 10m² bedroom and small lounge area offering exceptional views of beautiful Wainui bay and the sea beyond. There is a simple outside kitchen with a stove top, little bar fridge, coffee plunger. There is no oven or microwave but there is a gaz barbecue! The shower, and the compost toilets are detached, a few meters away. Enjoy the lovely outside bath from which one can take in the stunning views or the amazing night sky. The car park is at 2 minutes walk from the cottage. Our little Totos Café & Pizzeria, specialised in wood-fired pizza, with beer, wine, smoothies and more, is 2 minutes walk away, with great views over the sea and the bush. There is free limited WiFi, and flush toilets. During the peak season it's open from 10am to 6pm, (pizza from 11am to 5:30pm) and closed on Friday. It is also an earth building entirely built, decorated and operated by us. Although there is a short walk from our little café, Totos bush cottage is a very private and quiet place, perfect to recharge in the middle of nature with awesome views.
Please note that the listing automatically indicate a location at Tata beach: this isn't the case, but we can't remove it: we are located further than Tata, in Wainui Bay, on the hill toward Totaranui campground in the Abel Tasman National park (look for Totos Café & Pizzeria), 35 min drive from Takaka. Being right here in the middle of the native bush means there are many fantastic beaches and bush walks close buy in the Abel Tasman National park: From Totos Bush Cottage you can park at Pigeon Saddle (5min drive away) and walk the Northern (and nicest!) part of the Abel Tasman for a full day walk. Our favorites short walks are the walk from Totaranui to Anapai beach, and the little forest walk among big old rimus, ratas, miro and others native trees, up to lookout rock, around 15 min from Pigeon saddle (Inland track) with beautiful views over the native bush and the sea, a real forest bath! The walk from Wainui Bay to Taupo point, a previous Maori Pa (fortified village) is a great way to spend half a day and enjoy the pristine area. There are lovely waterfalls called Wainui falls just down the road (less than 10 min drive away), which is among one of the best short walks in Golden Bay. So much to do! The nearest settlement is Pohara, at 25 min drive, were you can pick up basic supplies at the convenience store, and there is a selection of cafés and restaurants, a golf course, a health spa, and more. For fuel and supermarket shopping, Takaka is the nearest main town in Golden Bay, at 35 min drive, with many cool places to check out for café, tea room, chocolates, food, craft shopping, go to the village theatre, etc. You also have the great possibility to indulge with hand-crafted wood-fired pizza, cold beers, wine, iced coffees and other refreshments at our little place Totos Café & Pizzeria, just 2 min walk away! Aside from hikes and beautiful beaches around our place, there are a lot of activities to do in Golden Bay: kayaking, horse riding, salmon fishing, fishing charters, flight in a little plane, golf, many cool cafés, etc. If you want to know more you can ask us at your arrival but also visit the website of the Golden Bay visitor center: www.goldenbaynz.co.nz
  • Great spot, in the native bush. Warm dry cabin with a comfy bed. Awesome outdoor bath (plus sheltered hot shower). Close to beaches, close to Takaka and Pohara for meals. Or woodfired pizza restaurant is onsite (depending on day/time of year etc).

  • Unique place to stay, really close to Totaranui. The view is breathtaking and the interior is really cosy ! We did not lack anything, even got to use the BBQ which was very nice. Crian is friendly and was eager to share his tips about the hike we were going the next day. Totally recommended !

    Florian2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Just you and the nature... This was one of our best Airbnb experiences in the last few years. It is a secluded cottage located on the hill. The views are simply astonishing both day and night. 20 minute drive will take you to the Abel Tasman National Park with its beaches and hiking options. Last, but not least, Carole & Crian's cafe is a pearl in the jungle. Great coffee, amazing views and delicious pizza. Highly recommended to everyone, who enjoys spending the night surrounded by the jungle and the stars. Many thanks to Carole & Crian for creating such a special place.

The cottage is located down the 'quiet' end of the beach on a private section. The back of the property runs down to a safe tidal estuary that's very popular with children to play around in canoes and small boats. There is a 50m walking track to the main beach just across the road and there is a boat ramp further down the beach. This cottage is ideal for a family or small group wanting a holiday at one of NZ's most beautiful beaches, or as a base to explore the greater bay area.
Cosy 2 bedroom cottage. Ideal base for exploring Golden Bay - Wainui Falls, Totaranui, Pupu Springs, Anatoki Salmon Farm, Historical Collingwood, Farewell Spit, Whaikariki Beach (white sand dunes) , Heaphy Track and Abel Tasman National Park.
  • This place is very good value in a perfect spot—half a minute’s walk from the quiet end of one of NZ’s loveliest beaches.

  • What a perfect Christmas! You absolutely can’t beat the location. Great sized Bach for the price. Would definitely stay again.

    Francesca2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • The location is fabulous being on the estuary side but just down a path to the beach. Little day time sojourns can end with a walk read or swim on the beach. Tata is the best. It’s a bit small for five adults, but we made it work!

Especially with the kayak the host provided. Definitely would love to visit again if a chance comes up. :)

  • Excellent location, very close to beach (about 1 min walk), fantastic native bird life around the property, eg one evening there were 12 Tui's in two trees and 15 Californian Quail on the rear lawn. Nice and quiet.

  • We had such an amazing stay at Garry’s. The White House has everything we need, spacious and clean. The new kitchen and bathroom is a great improvement while keeping the original bach style throughout the rest of the house. Very homey and relaxing. The location is Primo being in front of the beach. My communication with Garry himself very helpful, prompt and able to answer all my questions and needs. Thank you so much and will definitely re-book. :)

You will wake to the sounds of birdsong and will fall asleep to the sounds of ... silence. It's very peaceful and serene here. We have unlimited wifi and you're welcome to use it, but please be aware that mobiles (calls and texts) can be very temperamental, as coverage in Pohara is limited.
Separate studio located in the sleepy seaside town of Pohara. It is 400 metres (or about a 4 minute walk to the beach) and has off street parking for your car/RV (in front of the garage). Your studio has just been refurbished and is clean, stylish and equipped with modern furniture and appliances. You have your own patio area and limestone wall (with nice views out to the sea from the top). Please note that I do have two West Highland terriers who are friendly and inquisitive, but who remain in their own section of the yard. The kitchenette has a toaster, kettle and microwave but no cooking facilities. There is a full-size fridge (with ice) that will often have a few treats in it. Coffee and tea are supplied, along with jam, peanut butter, Nutella, margarine, tomato sauce, salad dressing and mayo. An additional outdoor hot shower is available outside your front door :)
You are surrounded by bush, caves and beaches... rent kayaks off Tata Beach through Golden Bay Kayaks (7 min drive) or explore stunning Totaranui (35 min drive). We are ten minutes from Takaka by car or an easy walk along the beachside path to pubs/restaurants/take-aways and a dairy that sells beer/wine. Pack your rackets because there is a fabulous tennis court at the bottom of the road (3 min walk) where you can play a game and take in the beautiful seascape at the same time :)
  • Was a awesome stay in bay area

What can I say, superb host, lovely clean studio, extra touches like, cheese and wine, chocolate, ice creams and Lisa even gave us our own little chocolate cake she baked! Great at comms, and happy to chat personally. The 2 dogs, Maisie and Fergus are adorable and friendly. All in all I highly recommend staying here, you won't be disappointed at all

    Hanna2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is lovely cottage on a beautiful piece of property just minutes by foot from the beach and by car from some of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. Lisa is a relaxed and generous host, and her cottage is pristine, well-appointed and private, with its own outdoor seating areas and views. The bed is very comfortable and the light in the afternoons and evenings gorgeous. Highly recommended for a visit to Pohara Beach and surrounding areas, including the Te Waikoropupū Springs, which are a short and easy drive from the cottage.

Escape & self isolate here $280/wk. Our colourful retro caravan is located in a private stream setting amongst native forest. It is a nice peaceful spot with a seaview. The caravan is comfortable, is insulated and has everything you need including a queen bed, sofas, cupboards, kitchen with stove top/sink/kettle/fridge. Linen and towels provided. There is a hot bush shower hidden in the trees Enjoy glamping, a digital detox, getting back to basics and immerse yourself in the sounds of nature.
Available for anyone needing to self isolate. $280/week. Super private and peaceful. Fully self contained. Large outside space and stream. No neighbours. We recently purchased this land and are slowly regenerating it back into native bush. The caravan space down by the stream is relaxing and peaceful with plenty of birdlife, and ideal as a private camping space for a couple, family or group of friends. There is extra space for a camper van or 2 or large tent as well if you are part of a bigger group. There is a unique repurposed outdoor wood fired hot tub for you to soak in after your day’s adventures. For an extra $10 we can supply you with a box of pine cones (a kids fundraiser) to make your stay truly memorable. The caravan is best suited for a couple, or single but can sleep three people with the third being on the sofa - this would suit a child or very small adult. The bed will be made up and we supply pots & pans, plates, cutlery etc so you just need to bring yourselves. We also have a BBQ for you to use and there is an outdoor fire pit (winter only) which we totally recommend - its a great spot for star gazing. The site is nestled amongst the regenerating bush and has a nice view of the ocean. There is a walk you can take along the stream and at night there are glow worms. Wekas will wonder around the campsite and there is plenty of native birdlife. The caravan has its own hot outdoor shower hidden in the forest which is a pretty cool experience and a clean composting toilet. It is a 10-15 min walk to Pohara Beach, the local bars/restaurants and shops, and 10mins drive to takaka township.
Pohara Valley has plenty of trees and birdlife and is a special place. It is close to the beaches and in a good position in which to explore other places in Golden Bay. Tata Beach is 5 mins drive away where there is fantastic kayaking. There are plenty of walks within half an hour drive such as Wainui Falls, Taupo Point, The Grove, The labryinth, Pupu Springs, Pupu Hyrdo, and Rawhiti Caves. It is on the way to Totaranui and the Abel Tasman National Park. Favourite beaches: Ligar Bay, Tata and Wainui Favourite walks: The Grove, Wainui Falls, Pupu Hydro Favourite restaurants: San Souci in Pohara Favourite cafe: Wholemeal cafe in Takaka Favourite day trip: Wharariki beach - cool landscapes, sand dunes and seal colony
  • Kim was very accommodating as my partner and I needed somewhere at kate notice for the night. The space was lovely and super cool for people who want to get out in the wilderness! The outdoor showing was amazing, I had a great time here

  • Amazing spot

    Flynn2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • If you are after some chilled time away in a relaxed environment this is the place to go. You get to sleep in a cute wee caravan surrounded by trees, take a nature shower while watching the fantails chase bugs above you and relax on the deck looking up at the stars. It is only about a 15 minute walk to the beach and about a 2 minute walk to the wee river that has glow worms. I loved staying here and would definitely stay again (next time when there isn't a fire ban so I can enjoy the fire heated bath).

    Jess2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Was such a lovely area and the caravan was awesome! ❤️

    Courtney2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely private hideaway with all the basic amenities to ensure a peaceful and relaxing break. The showers are so special!

    Nett2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Kim’s instructions are really clear and easy to follow. The caravan’s facilities are better than we expected. There is light and power. You can get phone connections hip the top of the hill before going down to the caravan parking spot. It’s wonderfully eco friendly. Everything is clean and charming and it is fun to have a hot bush shower and have the birds visit. We really loved it and so;pet well of the soft bed. Really nice.

    Anna2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely amazing time at Kim’s place! The caravan was super cute! The view of the ocean in the morning was great. The glow worms and hot tub were just the icing on the cake! Would highly recommend this stay

The view at night as the sun sets is just perfect...and you can watch it from bed. Very nice host, super attentive and wants to make you feel welcome. This cosy wee kiwi cottage is nestled in a quiet secluded valley away from all the hustle and bustle of the busy modern life. One minute walk to our local Pohara beach, tennis courts etc. Swimming beaches, rock climbing walls, fishing, diving and the Able Tasman NP are very close. Cafes, store and bars are at Pohara. The Takaka township is only 10 minutes drive for all your other shopping. The Golden Bay region is loaded with endless things to do and places to explore and connect with nature.
Here are a few reasons why the organic cottage is a great place to stay. You will be snug in our cottage which is well insulated throughout with some double glazed windows and wool insulation all round. Plenty of wood for the fire (not usually lit in summer here but your welcome). We have a selection of organic fruit trees to pick from to add to your breakfasts, there is plenty of organic greens and veges in the garden to add to your meals. In the back corner of the poroperty above the limestone rocks is an ancient Northern Rata tree which attracts Tui, Kereru and plenty of other bird life which will be music to your ears in the mornings. Im am a Zenthai Shiatsu practitioner so there may be an opportunity to book a bodywork session with me. For the more adventureous there is a fire bath on the bamboo grove that has water to it for star lit night gazing.... just a great place we call home.

Our place is close to the beach, cafes, health spa, store, tennis court . You’ll love our place because of the utter peace and quiet, the birds, the closeness to the beach with swimming and kayaking opportunities, the short walk to cafes, the magnificent, tall native trees and hills nearby, and the sound of our babbling brook. We are a short drive from Takaka township and are ideally placed to explore the whole region from. We are only a 20 minute drive to the Abel Tasman National Park.
We are tucked away into a peaceful, treed valley. It's private and surrounded by nature, yet close to amenities. A short walk down the road and you arrive at a magnificent beach with a backdrop of picturesque cliffs and native forest. Great for safe swimming and kayaking. We have just opened a lovely art gallery with work from local artists, including my own work, with eftpos and credit card facility. You can check out photos of this on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN). It's called Wairua Rata Art Gallery.
We are a small lane with about a dozen houses. We enjoy wonderful privacy, full sun, and lovely views of the mature native rata trees and hills around us.

  • Gorgeous experience! Conny and Gert are like the early settlers! They own a wonderful hill and work very hard to transform this place into a nice place to live. The house lays higher then everyone else, so you can enjoy an Incredible panoramic view, right from your bed! Aside from the the view, which alone is absolutely worth it, the stay was very convenient with breakfast included, washing machine, lots if space and lots of Tipps what to do. The location is not far from a couple of restaurants, a supermarket and Golden Bay Kayaks, where you can have great kayak tours. Connie is a lovely host, who gave us a warm welcome, nice chats, she always had time for us, but respected our privacy. You can listen to very interesting stories while enjoying the sunset. We totally recommend this place!

  • Barrie and Anne Marie are thoughtful and knowledgeable hosts who go the extra mile for their guests. We were surprised to discover home grown strawberries, black berries and tomatoes in our room as we arrived; along with 2 ice cold brews. Barrie and Anne Marie gave us great local information which made our visit easier and more enjoyable. The accommodations are private, very clean and well presented; everything we needed was there. Making the drive over Takaka Hill to Golden Bay lets one see the best of what New Zealand has to offer; and when you combine that with the hospitality and graciousness extended by Barrie and Anne Marie, you experience life’s greatest pleasure.

  • Barrie & Anne-Marie were up there with the best hosts we have had on Airbnb. Their property is super clean and comfortable, and they provided some lovely thoughtful touches in the form of some chocolates and a couple of beers in the fridge, plus a local paper so you can see what's occurring around the area. Their knowledge of the local area is superb as well, giving us some great recommendations for little day trips, hikes and beaches, and local places to eat and drink. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in the Golden Bay area.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Christine & Peter's place. On our travels through North and South Island we've stayed in quite a few airbnb properties and this was the best in terms of decor, amenities, location and all the little extras the hosts provide, as well as being immaculately clean. The complimentary breakfast is delicious and plentiful and includes tasty homemade jams. Peter and Christine are warm and welcoming and gave us lots of tips for places to visit locally. If you are looking to stay in the Golden Bay area this is the place to pick - cannot recommend highly enough.

  • Christine and David are wonderful hosts, we really enjoyed our three nights staying at their premises. The location is perfect for visiting Abel Tasman or the Farewell Spit. There are plenty of beautiful beaches nearby, in fact you just need to cross the street for a swim. Takaka with its restaurants, bars and supermarkets is just a 15min drive away, but there are also nice options in walking distance. We would definitely come back!

  • Lovely hosts, clean and tidy, highly recommended

    Nicolas2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Pohara was very nice. Christine and Peter are kind and friendly hosts, who provided us with everything we needed: travel advice, tipps and homegrown peaches! The apartment is tidy and clean, located in a calm area close to the beach. We spent two wonderful days there - one hiking adventure in the Abel Tasman Park and another day in the Golden Bay. Thank you for everything!

    Gaia2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a nicely furnished, clean studio in a quiet neighborhood with off-street parking - and is convenient to Takaka and surrounding areas and activities.   The bed and couch are comfortable, the bathroom is a generous size, and the kitchen area provides enough kitchenware/appliances for a simple meal or snacks.  There is fast internet, beach chairs, and a portable fan (in case you get warm). The hosts are wonderful, friendly and can provide plenty of helpful information about the area. The AirBNB descriptions and photos are accurate. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return again.

    Paul2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Christine & Peter are great hosts and they gave us total privacy. We forgot to bring toothpaste and they gave us some toothpaste. The place is right next to beach and you can walk to there.( around 3 mins walk ) !! The shops and restaurants are all walkable. We have had a lovely stay and would love to come back to visit again! By the way the complimentary breakfast is yummy, especially the muesli😊

  • Very wonderful place! Incredibly well thought out details that you do not see in a lot of other places. A lot of storage space in the bathroom area, luggage storage area, and kitchen. Too many places don't think about these things, and when you're moving around a lot on a vacation you sometimes need to spread out your things. Host also has beach chairs and beach towels for you which is a very courteous touch. As well, a breakfast for your first morning is an extremely thoughtful touch since we arrived late at night. The place was impeccably clean. Very stylish decor. The host made a point to check in with me each day as we were packing up to go out to ensure that things were going ok with our stay. We would like to come back to this town just to stay at this place! Well done, Christine! Thank you!

    Adriana2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Christine's place was great. Perfect for a short stay in Pohara. Everything was spotless, bed was lovely and comfortable, linen & towels new and high quality, excellent tv & WiFi, 2 minutes walk to the beach and cafe. I would definitely recommend and come back..!

Romantic Getaway. Seeing it is loving it! The Caboose is a handcrafted replica of an old train carriage, with a private garden. Set on a property with a historic farmhouse, only 5 minutes drive from the beach and Takaka township. Great for both summer and winter with a pot belly making it cosy on the colder nights and an outside bath for a romantic soak under the stars. Your stay at the The Caboose in Golden Bay will hopefully be a special experience that you will remember! Close to Takaka and close to the beaches, so perfect as a base for your holiday or as your base to explore the natural wonders Golden Bay has to offer. Or just stay in The Caboose and ... relax! We do not offer Wifi or television, hoping you will be able to get away from it all, but there are plenty of books and magazines to keep you occupied and a few games. And just to let you know ... we have children, so you might hear or see the odd child in the garden, but they will respect your privacy and the fact that you are on holiday and want to relax. Some of the feedback we were given: - Made to feel very welcome. Easy to relax inside and outside the Caboose. Really enjoyed exploring Golden Bay. Nice combination of Art Trail, natural beauty and good food - Great location and excellent accommodation. The Caboose was beautifully presented and had everything we needed. The perfect place to relax - Great spot for a get away and top location to base ourselves from to explore golden bay and up to farewell spit! Really nice place to stay and the outside bath, shower, hammock and dining area was ideal and made it even more special for us! - Thanks so much for the relaxing refuge. Beautifully quiet, would recommend to anyone who needs some time out - The outside bath is awesome. We'll be back :) Truly one of the best accommodations my wife and I have ever spent time in - after 40 years of traveling. A small space but absolutely magical and meticulously detailed. A true labour of love created by someone with a genius level of originality and inspiration. This little wonder is dripping with soul. After leaving and checking into our next night's accommodation after leaving Takaka, we felt an overwhelming sense of loss - realizing our one night stay there hadn't been nearly long enough. - A very unique, relaxing and private get-away! We loved staying in the Caboose with our 2 year old daughter and will happily recommend it to others. The private backyard with outdoor bath and shower were a highlight, and the welcoming eggs and beer a lovely touch. Thank you, I'm sure we will be back!
Rural outlook over farmlands but close to beach and lots to explore. Golden Bay is New Zealand's most diverse and appealing holiday destination. Imagine a region with endless variety, where golden beaches, alpine valleys and tranquil fishing rivers share a close proximity with the sea. Breathtaking scenery, arts and crafts, sporting activities. There's something for everyone. Golden Bay is nestled into the South Island's north-west corner. A chain of steep and rugged mountains cuts its fertile river plains and valleys from the rest of the island.
  • The caboose was a lovely spot from which to explore Golden Bay! The listing was very accurate. It’s a peaceful, cozy place with very welcoming hosts.

    Lynnie2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in the Caboose. It’s as cute and cozy as it looks in the photos, but also had all of the amenities we’ve found in much larger apartments/spaces (we cooked a full dinner and breakfast).

    Brittany2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the caboose! It was such a unique, quirky spot but felt so cozy, secluded yet close to town. We would totally stay here again, cheers and thank you Peter & Lisa!

    Courtney2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Lisa’s place. It’s very comfortable and quiet, a bit remote, although close to the beach.

  • Simply amazing

    Boet2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A must stay spot if you’re in Golden Bay!!! Such a unique space and the hosts Lisa and Peter are so lovely and go above and beyond to make your experience memorable. The caboose is adorable, cozy and well-outfitted with everything you need, and the gardens with the outdoor shower and bath are perfection. Regardless of the rain we loved our time exploring the beaches and parks here, lots of yummy laidback cafes and bars too!

    Kaleigh2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is definitely worth the hype. The job they have done on converting this train is magnificent - it’s incredibly well thought out and beautifully finished. Ultra comfy bed, big / powerful outdoor shower and every kitchen utensil you need for a short or long stay. We had four nights in the train, explored all day / every day and could’ve easily done another week around takaka. Note: if you are planning on kayaking the able Tasman - start from the golden bay side if you want a more picturesque experience without the hoards of people. Would definitely stay at the train again. Thanks Lisa and Otis for a super relaxed, private experience.

  • This place is spectacular, best Airbnb I've been to. Caboose itaelf has separate bedroom, kitchen with stove and incredible fireplace which is perfect foe cold evenings. Bathroom outside under the sky is fantastic. Also in the garden you got barbecue to use. Lisa and Peter are really friendly host which I can highly recommend and so is thier full of energy dog :)

  • Super location with stunning views. The tiny greenie had a very nice layout with enough room for 4 adults. We enjoyed our stay and could easily have spent a longer time at Golden Bay Hideaway. Would highly recommend the place.

Stop looking and start booking! We had a great first season last Summer. We’ve listened to our guests and made some changes as we want to increase your overall experience and lift from 4.8 to 5 Stars. This is the ideal spot to return to after a busy day sightseeing. NOTE: Maximum occupancy is 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children (under 12). See you soon!
Situated at the rear of the property our little Bungalow is perfectly placed. Enjoy the picturesque views over the surrounding farmland, wander the orchards and pick fruit, collect fresh eggs from the chook run, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet on your own private deck. We are centrally located in Golden Bay, just 5 minutes from Takaka and more importantly, the Mussel Inn! We're 10 minutes from Collingwood. From here it is equal distance across the bay to all the major attractions whether you're heading West to Wharariki Beach or East into the Abel Tasman. We recommend staying 3 nights as this gives you two full days to explore many of the sights.
We are rurally situated. Our nearest neighbour is about 200m away. We are surrounded by farmland, so we're sometimes surrounded by dairy cows. Apart from the odd truck going by it is a very peaceful place.
  • Jonny's place is an amazing space. Jonny and his family are so welcoming and kind The bungalow is gorgeous and clean and has a list of local attractions and recommendations.

Our Tata house is situated in a beautiful setting with the stunning Tata Beach only 3 minutes easy walk from the house. The house is light and airy with all the comforts of home. There is plenty of off street parking with more than enough for several cars plus a boat. With the abundance of native bush in the area the sound of native birds can be heard all around. The house is only approximately a 15 minute drive from the small township of Takaka which has plenty of cafes, art and craft shops.
Our house is fully set up and very private. All you need to do is arrive and relax. We supply all bedding, towels etc as well as provide tea and coffee.
If you don't feel like the drive to Takaka there are some lovely little Cafes for coffee and a piece of your favourite cake at Pohara which is about a 4 minute drive from Tata.
  • Great place Great hosts Would like to be able to stay there again in the future.

This 1973 Zephyr caravan is like stepping back into time. Cute, cosy, comfy and very kiwiana! With a double bed and 2 singles (caravan size beds) she is perfect for a few nights of chillaxing or a stopover to Abel Tasman NP. Zephyr sits nestled amongst the lush bush, our driveway, our babbling stream, and Falconer Rd. Be prepared to be very close to nature. The outdoor (covered) kitchen is complete with a gas cooker, sink and all the kitchen cooking essentials. Tea/coffee complimentary.
We are 600 meters from the beach with Kahurangi and Abel Tasman National Parks at your exploration doorstep. This caravan is located on the same property as Oasis Omarama - Permaculture Glamping (also listed on Air BnB as one glamping tent). We can accomodate larger groups with the caravan and the glamping tent or this can be perfect for a bit of space from the kids (or the in-laws). Discounts can be offered for bookings of both the Glamping Tent and the caravan together. Please contact me. You will relax in your own self-contained zone in lush surroundings right next to our stream. The caravan is also nearest to the road/driveway but this is a local road with very little traffic, just a few friendly neighbours. You will be close to nature with very basic amenities, but everything you need (bring your own towel if possible). This is a not a 5-star accomodation, but a humble kiwiana experience. There is an outdoor kitchen set up that is complete with all you need to cook up a feast. The kitchen is covered with a tarp roof but it is outside, so during rain it does get a bit wet (there are no walls). There are also spiderwebs given that this is an outdoor set up and I can in no way keep them out. There is a small fridge in the caravan as well. Tea and coffee goodies are complimentary. There is a small oil-fin heater in the caravan and an electric blanket on the double bed. As it's a small space, It's cosy as in there with the heater on. There is power to the caravan to charge gadgets. We (your hosts) also live on the property about 70 meters from the caravan area. There are lots of trees and greenery between the dwellings so plenty of privacy. Again, there is only 1 caravan and 1 glamping tent on the property and the caravan is in it's own self-contained separate zone. We also often have abundant fruit and produce and certain times of year that we love to share with our guests. Let Nature surround and embrace you. Please Be prepared to be close to nature. If you cannot pee outside please do not book this accomodation 😊. At night it is easier to pee outside in the bush then walk the 25 meters to the loo. The outdoor shower and compost loo are a short stroll away (about 25 meters). If you are not comfortable with composting toilets or a hot beautiful outdoor shower then we recommend you book elsewhere. The Caravan comfortably accommodates 2 adults, with space for up to 2 additional children or adults, making it the perfect family nature holiday getaway. All extra guests (including children) requiring a bed to be made up will be an additional $15 per night. Please add additional guests when making your booking. Also please note that these are caravan size beds so they run a bit small. They are NOT full size beds. Please bring your own towels and if you have more than 2 guests a sleeping bag or blanket could be handy. We have extra bedding but it can get cool at night. Pets are allowed with prior approval and must sleep outside of the caravan. Pets will be charged an extra cleaning fee of $15 to be paid in cash. We look forward to hosting you and sharing our wee slice of paradise! Again prepare to be close to nature with basic facilities. You can be at one with the elements as you enjoy your homegrown breakfast with the sun shining on you. We live on half an acre of luscious soil with our very own stream which runs year round. We aim to grow as much of our own food as possible. We have fruit and nut trees: peach, apple, plum, grape, hazelnut, walnut, avocado, lemon, macadamia, feijoa, fig, kiwifruit, mandarin, orange, pear, tamarillo....We also have our own chickens for fresh eggs. We have beehives that pollinate the fruit and nut trees and provide us with the most delicious honey! As fruit is in season, you can pick your own straight from the tree for the BEST-tasting, freshest fruit you have ever had. You can nibble your way through the gardens and enjoy a meditative sit on the sea view deck taking in the multitude of smells and sounds. You will lay your head to rest listening to a babbling stream gently lulling you to sleep. Abundant Native bird song will awake you in the morning within the natural rhythms of daybreak. We have tui, kereru, thrush, blackbird, bellbird, piwakawaka, weka, and more. The evening sun glows through the caravan and warms it throughout the day.
Aroha Health Spa just down the road provides a range of relaxing therapies and treatments to pamper you after a long day exploring :)

  • A lovely place to stay

  • We loved our stay at Shanti's caravan, great value for money and we loved experiencing being 'close to nature'! The caravan is cosy and there is plenty of space in the outside kitchen for cooking etc. Shanti and family are very friendly and came to check on us regularly but also respected our privacy. We would definitely stay again.

  • If you want a getaway - this is a great option. It’s a perfect opportunity to unplug as the wifi is only available in certain areas - embrace it. The outdoor shower was perfect - very peaceful. We only stayed for one night but you could definitely make this your home base for at least a few nights. Would stay again.

  • Great place to stay. Everything is included in the stay and although it is not the most luxurious stay, it is just wonderful. Clean and Steve is a great guy. Pohara was also exactly on the right side of the abel tasman track for us. Nice and quiet.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Steve’s place in Pohara. The accommodation was in a beautiful peaceful location, close to Pohara beach.

    Sarah2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Steve’s place is great. Cottages spread out across a wide area, surrounded in trees and all beach facing. Birdsong in the mornings and evenings and a few dragonflies flitting around made this place very special. It is about a 5 minute walk to get down to Pohara beach. Great spots for jogging or cycling. We stayed with a baby who loved crawling around relaxing, and we loved the patio on our cottage for a few wines and dinner once she was asleep. Steve’s place is perfect for those wanting to stay close to the beach, yet not on it, and for those wanting a true kiwi-cabin experience. We loved it and only wished we had longer. Thanks Steve, we’ll be back!

  • The Sandcastle is a cracking little Bach style getaway, whether there for 1 night or 10. Tranquil bush like surroundings with plenty of wildlife. The gardens are peaceful with the communal area/pizza oven a great place to sit and meet the other guests, with a beer or wine and enjoy a pizza. This place really is a perfect little getaway. Steve the host is so easy going, a lovely guy to sit and have a yarn with. So passionate about his place and it’s surroundings, so helpful and always on hand to offer tips and advice on the local area. He seems to thrive from meeting new people and nothing is to much trouble. Respect the place, it’s surroundings and the other guests and I’m sure Steve would stop at nothing to add to the pleasure of your stay. I found our cottage to be clean, comfortable and had all of the amenities you would need whilst on a break. I did notice on reading the reviews, that some people were dis-satisfied with the condition of the cottages. I have to stress that this place is a “Bach” style accommodation, as such you will see the odd cobweb and a couple of dead flies, but it is clear that Steve makes a good effort to keep the place clean. The beds in our cottage were both comfortable and the bedding was clean, clean towels were provided and the small kitchen had everything that we needed. If your expecting a 5 star hotel with room service and pristine conditions don’t bother. If you love the outdoors, kiwi style Bach accommodation, peace, tranquility, enjoy meeting lovely people and love Golden Bay, this is the place for you. If you fancy the pizza oven fired up, I’d recommend you give Steve notice before you get there, bring along your toppings and Steve does the rest for you. I’m not a huge pizza fan, but this is an experience I would thoroughly recommend. I will definitely return here with my family The first opportunity we have. We have family in Golden Bay and always somewhere to stay, but this is a place not to be missed. We had a family member with us from the UK, who might I add is more of a city hotel type. He loved his time here, at one with nature, surrounded by lovely folk. Thank you Steve, our time with you was great, way better than expected. We look forward to returning. Kris, Nelson.

  • Throughly enjoyed our stay at Sandcastle! Steve was very hospitable and along with the cute cottage being so close to Pohara beach he offered to cook us pizzas for dinner. Which was lovely! Highly recommend and will be back.
