Elms House Cottage
Rowston is a small farming village , south of the historic city of Lincoln. Sleaford, Newark and Grantham are all easily within half hour by car. You’ll love my place because it's a very old cottage, recently re-equipped (including dishwasher). It is near, but separate from, my own house, with it's own garden. The cottage is good for couples, solos, business travellers, and small families. We can also accommodate French speakers. A 10% discount and free weekly servicing for 7+ day stays.

Your guide to Tattershall

All About Tattershall

Nestled in central Lincolnshire, among farmlands and historical sites, is the small rural community of Tattershall, known primarily for the 15th-century Tattershall Castle. Just outside the village, Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Natural Beauty, an expansive area set among rolling grasslands and timber, is rife with historical sites, hiking trails, and cycling paths. With only a few hundred permanent residents, Tattershall makes for an excellent staging area to experience rural east-central England and all the area has to offer. Visitors can explore the ruins of the mid-15th-century Tattershall College after a trip to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre, which is home to a collection of historical aircrafts. For a more extensive selection of cultural offerings, the city of Lincoln is about 30 minutes away, where you can check out more of the arts, culture, and gastronomy available in Lincolnshire.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Tattershall

The climate of Tattershall and the wider Lincolnshire area is temperate and mild throughout the year with only moderate swings in conditions between the seasons. As a result, summers here tend to be short with pleasantly warm temperatures and somewhat cloudy days. On the other hand, winters are long and cold and experience an increase in rainfall. However, the shoulder seasons provide a nice in-between of the two seasons, a perfect time to search for log cabins in Tattershall.

Depending on the season, you will be greeted with either the fresh, vibrant blossoms of spring or the subdued earthen tones of autumn. Lincolnshire is a vast, expansive region, and as such, has a wide selection of festivals and events throughout the year. The small village of Norton Disney, just 40 minutes from Tattershall, hosts a bohemian musical celebration in late August where artists perform on surreally designed stages with costumed actors prowling the crowds.

Top things to do in Tattershall

Tattershall Castle

Less than a kilometre from the village centre, Tattershall Castle is a fascinating 15th-century historical site constructed with brick in an age when similar fortifications were built with stone. Explore the castle interior, surrounding grounds, and the collection of restored cottages. Water-filled moats still adorn the site, so stay alert when exploring these historical grounds.

Holy Trinity Collegiate Church

Constructed in tandem with Tattershall Castle, the Holy Trinity Collegiate Church is an expansive stone house of worship adorned with stained glass enclosures and immaculately carved stone pillars. You’ll be greeted by a brilliantly ornamented façade with detailed trim work, engravings, emblems, and designs when you enter the building. In addition to the beauty of the structure itself, keen observers will find a tomb inside that is the purported resting place of the folk hero Tom Thumb.

Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve

This coastal reserve less than an hour from town makes for an excellent day trip. Dunes, wetlands, and marshes run straight to the vast, unspoilt beaches the reserve is known for. Stop by the nature centre for a primer on the area's unique ecology and varied wildlife species, such as the brent geese and skylarks that can be seen wandering about the coastal salt marshes. In addition, several accessible walking paths are available that make their way through the park's various areas.
