  • We had an unforgettable stay here. Somehow, it's even more amazing than the photos! The house is massive, well stocked and the grounds are so peaceful and beautiful. Sabrina was so accommodating and easy to communicate with. I can't recommend staying here enough!

  • Great property and wonderful home for a family get-together or event! We rented it for a rehearsal dinner and to accommodate the out-of-town groomsmen for my son's wedding. I only live a town away but will try to rent again for a family get-away! Sabrina, the property manager, is most responsive and detailed in her customer care

  • Sabrina's Charming Estate is just that - it's a beautiful large house on lovely green rolling hills in Middleburg horse country. Only 1.5 hours from downtown Washington, DC, it was an easy drive but you felt completely disconnected from the hustle and bustle of the city. The house was well appointed with all of the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom amenities one might need. Perfect for larger groups, with lots of bedrooms for privacy but and other common gathering places for people to congregate. But the best part was sitting out on the patio whether early in the morning, during sunset in the evening, or even after dark to see all of the stars. Keeping up on the happenings with the horses, dogs, groundhogs, and various birds was fun - next time we'll definitely plan time for a horse trail ride! The location is close to Middleburg and Upperville for restaurants or visiting the shops, as well as a short distance from the Salamander Resort which had an amazing spa. But as pretty as the Salamander was, it was great staying at the country estate because you could gather and talk with your friends or family, cook meals together, listen to music or watch movies and really just enjoy your time together which you can't do as easily in a hotel. Sabrina was super fast at responding to questions, even ones that might have been silly, and had great recommendations for local service providers and restaurants. It was nice not having to be there at a specific time to get a traditional key, although the front door digital lock is a bit temperamental. On the plus side, if we had trouble with that door, the backdoor was always another option which seemed easier. Would 100% recommend her house to other friends and family, and hopefully will be able to return myself as well!

  • This house was amazing!! So beautiful, large and heart warming. And CLEAN! We had a great time celebrating NYE all together, under one roof with our own bedrooms. All the beds had towels and sheets. The showers had shampoo and conditioner and soap. And we were greeted with a welcome basket of food, fresh farm eggs and wine. It was simply lovely. We will be back again! Sabrina was great to work with and always available!

  • There simply isn't enough space to describe how great this place is. A true retreat, just driving up the home on the long driveway, flanked by trees on each side. You enter a most beautiful home, filled with awesome, comfortable details (amazing beds), hidden rooms - fun house to say the least. Even a full size gym in the basement (really). And then you walk out the back door to a literal piece of heaven to call your own. Tens of horses within reach, geese, barnyard cats, walking trails, a huge pond... plus a volleyball net to boot. Grocery stores & the main town are a few minutes drive away; and the fact that it's an hour from DC, it's amazing how close this completely separate world is. No better place to feel refreshed and relaxed. (Btw, we had a party of 8 - 2 couples, 4 singles, more than enough room in the house and privacy for everyone. Plus plenty of spaces for everyone to hangout together as well.)

  • Our group of 15 just returned from an amazing weekend in Middleburg. The house is comfortable and spacious, and the property is absolutely beautiful. Sabrina was thoughtful down to the last detail, and made us feel welcome from the moment we opened the door. She was very easy to reach throughout the weekend, and made sure we were able to find everything we needed. We especially enjoyed sitting around the firepit and watching the horses out behind the house. We also got a chance to explore the adorable town of Middleburg, which is just a short (and scenic!) drive away. I highly recommend a stay at the estate!!

    Alexandra2015-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • The house was incredible. Well worth the price. We were all extremely impressed. The only comment that I could have, although very minor, was that there were only 2.5 bathrooms which isn't that many for this amount of people, and the water pressure was pretty low. Sabrina was an excellent host. All in all, if I return to Middleburg I would absolutely stay here again.

  • Our business team of 7 stayed at this amazingly beautiful estate and it was perfect for our team offsite. The number of bedrooms made this possible. The beds, although a bit on the softer side, were comfortable and in beautiful rooms. One bathroom only had a tub, so that teammate had to share a shower in another bathroom, which really wasn't a big deal. The inside space and the outside space were utilized for different parts of our business retreat, and it was very helpful to be able to mix up the working environment throughout the day. One fun thing we did was hire a chef to cook for us both nights so we could work right up til dinner. We would highly recommend this property and hope to come back for a future retreat or a family reunion.

Historic, renovated, train station in the heart of Virginia hunt and wine country. This private oasis sits on the second floor above three gorgeous art studios belonging to local artists. Enroll in an art workshop, enjoy twilight polo and horse races at Great Meadows, or find yourself having a romantic dinner in our little village of The Plains.
The historic train station was built in 1915 and has brought life to the little village of The Plains ever since. The large windows and beautiful brick create a warm and welcoming atmosphere with great light - especially for artists. There have been art studios on the first floor of the train station for decades. Only recently has the second floor been renovated and turned into an apartment. The second floor, which previously was the Station Master's office, now has 2 bedrooms (second bedroom -cute basic auxiliary- with twin beds), 1 full bath, half bath on 1st floor, a modern kitchen, and a great space for dining and lounging. The kitchen is fully stocked for any baking or cooking needs you may have during you stay. We are within walking distance of great restaurants and shops. See our recommendations below.
The Plains is a small village in Northern Virginia located between Middleburg and Warrenton. Need some recommendations for when you're in town? We have a few: Restaurants: Girasole The Rail Stop Front Porch Happy Creek Coffee & Tea Activities: - Great Meadows is a 5 minute drive and has many great events throughout the year -There are a few wonderful art galleries in town. While we're quite partial to the three art galleries on the first floor of the train station, be sure to check these out too: Young Blood Art Studio Zig Zag Gallery Live an Artful Life Gallery Local Shops: Peyton's Place Fine Furniture and Interior Design Hunt Country Yarns The Bittersweet Garden Local Vineyards: Boxwood Winery Greenhill Winery The Winery at La Grange
  • Caro went above and beyond as a host. The Whistlestop was lovely, well stocked, clean, and complete with many warm welcoming touches (muffins, coffee, tea, fruit, toiletries, fresh flowers, and on and on!) Easy walk to the cute downtown including great coffeeshop. Highly recommend.

  • Good to work with!

    Eric2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a unique experience- staying in an old train depot, which is now a lovely art studio. The newly renovated apartment is decorated perfectly and Caro's hospitality was so warm & welcoming. Note: The train did go by and wake us up three times in the night. Fine for adults (and pretty cool to see how close you are to these giant trains) but could be unsettling at night for small children. Perhaps pack earplugs :)

    Jennifer2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Such a unique place to visit. Great little place for a couples get away!

    Josh2017-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolutely beautiful and cozy! My friends and I went to a couple of wineries close by then had a nice quiet night in the area and it was great. Caro was great and gave us a house tour and mini city tour. Definitely going to come back to this spot!!

    Ameera2017-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very welcoming host.

    Jamey2016-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at Caro's very unique apartment. Watching the trains go by was really fun, and we enjoyed chatting with the artist downstairs. The apartment is very nicely decorated and Caro left us lots of breakfast treats! The town is definitely very small, but there's a lot to do if you drive to wineries etc. and the people in town were really friendly. I highly recommend dinner at The Whole Ox and coffee at Happy Creek Coffee.

    Megan2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location in The Plains, you can walk into town to several great restaurants and cute coffeee shop. We were easily able to uber to Middleburg and some local wineries around. We had two trains go by at night, but we knew it was by a train track beforehand so this was no issue. The place is clean and has a wonderful art studio below. A must stay!

This charming cottage was once the town barber shop and is over 100 years old. It's a bright and sunny room with light filtering through the original paned glass windows. The kitchen is small but efficient and outfitted with everything you would need to prepare a meal. The bathroom is newly renovated. The queen size bed is made up in high thread count linens and the Ralph Lauren living room furniture with feather & down cushions makes a cozy extra bed. Park (free) and walk to three highly rated restaurants, including the well known Happy Creek Coffee and bike shop a half a block walk. Spend time in our own shops and galleries or a 10 minute drive will take you to Middleburg or a number of picturesque wineries for tastings. Bring your bikes to roll down country roads or take a nice trail ride at Marriott Ranch. Hike at Sky Meadow in nearby Paris Virginia. Several golf courses within 20 minutes. The Plains was recently voted "Best Town to Visit" by Blue Ridge Travel and is home to the world famous "Gold Cup Steeple Chase". It's only an hour from DC and one mile off of I-66 but it's a whole new world from the crowds, stress and traffic.
Even though we are considered rural, our town is very walkable, even with a stroller. We have sidewalks and grassy areas both. There are two large parks within a 5 min. drive from the cottage, beautiful and quiet for communing with nature. One of the three full service restaurants in town, The Front Porch, stays open for a late dinner or nightcap and the other two will serve you late as long as you get there by 8:30. We also have something unusual, a Vietnamese kitchen in our t gas station/convenience store, true ethnic Vietnamese. So, if you want to eat in but not cook, grab something here, inexpensive and delicious. There is also pizza delivery from nearby Joe's Pizza, in Marshall, and it's some of the best pizza I've had. True Italian and family owned.
  • This space is SO lovely!! Everything surpassed our expectations. The cottage and surroundings are perfectly picturesque. Peyton was a fantastic host - friendly and kind with a good sense of humor. Our check in/check out was flexible, which I thought was a really nice touch! We didn't have to rush out the door the next morning and were able to relax and enjoy breakfast. The cottage is actually bigger in person than it seems from the photos, and the way Peyton has decorated the space is very hip and eclectic - I remarked to my boyfriend that I could live in this cottage! I didn't want to leave! I honestly can't believe how the person in another review could think this wasn't worth the money; in my opinion, the space was above and beyond what I've ever experienced using Airbnb. Having spent hours searching for accommodations around The Plains/Middleburg, this place is actually priced really competitively for the area, ESPECIALLY for the class of decor and amenities included. To give you an example, a HOLIDAY INN nearby was charging $190 for a room. Sorry, but I'd much rather stay in this picture perfect private cottage ;) Peyton has included a bunch of nice little touches like (just to name a few) an iron/ironing board and a blowdryer, wardrobe with hangers, a couple of large mirrors, and plenty of utensils/dishes/cooking supplies in the kitchenette, which really came in handy. We kept remarking to ourselves that they really have thought of everything with this space. The bed and linens were super comfortable. The cottage is situated on a quiet side street right off the main drag in The Plains. A few different restaurants and shops are a minute's walk from the front door. The cottage faces trees, so the view out the windows is nice and relaxing (and private). My only regret is that we only got to spend one night here. We will DEFINITELY be back in the future. Can't wait to spend more time in this cute little town in the cutest little cottage!

  • Great place to stay, great Hosts. Highly recommend this place to anyone.

    Jimbo2015-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • My fiancé and I have stayed at both of Peyton's places in the Plains and we love them both! The place is very clean, and has everything we need. The country-chic decor is very cute and the bed is very comfortable. The place is just a minute walk from a great restaurant-Forlano's Market and a few more minutes to the Whole Ox. Peyton is great and very accommodating. We booked this stay very last minute and she responded right away and everything was all set. We can't wait to come back!

    Jessica2014-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Make sure when you book with arbnb and with the owner of the house or room, that you are getting what you booked. I booked quite a while ago and was very disappointed that the owner didn't make sure that we were in the right place.

    Camille2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a sweet location, an unusual place, but in every way we so enjoyed our stay there!

    Joe2017-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Loved Peyton's place -- comfortable, stylish, well-appointed, and a short walk to Forlano's, where we did indeed have a tasty dinner. Highly recommend to anyone seeking a delightful getaway in a charming old town.

    Leah2014-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A nice studio in The Plains. Kenny was friendly and helpful with recommendations in the area.

    Alex2014-04-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very good rest at Peyton's place in The Plains. She and her husband are very kind and thoughtful, and made sure we had everything we needed. I can also recommend 'the railstop' for dinner, and of course 'the front porch' for whiling away some time and watching the world go by. It's that kind of town. Very mellow.

Mayberry is a circa 1900 farmhouse in the town of The Plains. It is 3/4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and is well appointed and comfortable for family gatherings and groups. High speed internet.
Location, location, location. Within the town of The Plains there are 3 good restaurants and one very good cup of coffee. We are approximately 50 minutes to DC via 66 (non rush hour) and 30 minutes from Dulles going east and 30 minutes to Shenandoah National Park to the west. Middleburg is 7 miles away and Great Meadows event center is 2 miles away and there are 10 local wineries. There is world class cycling out of the front door and heading west; from 20 mile rides to 120 miles.
Nice little southern town with the railroad running through it.
  • The host canceled this reservation 46 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

  • I rented Chris' house for a girlfriend getaway weekend. We were so happy with this place! This is an early 1900's structure that has a charming and comfortable farmhouse feel to it thanks to tasteful decorating. The kitchen and bathrooms have been upgraded and have many modern features and SS appliances. The house itself is very spacious and had plenty of bedrooms for all of us to spread out. Chris was very responsive to any questions I had and gave us a full list of recommendations for wineries, restaurants and activities. He even prepared the outdoor fireplace for us to have a fire in the evening. Our absolute favorite place to hang out was on the lovely back porch. As our visit was in October, the view was gorgeous with the changing colors of the leaves. The house is centrally located to a many local attractions. We were able to walk into the quaint town of The Plains and sample the local restaurants. We also drove to Middleburg and attended the local film festival. I highly recommend Mayberry and I will definitely stay here again.

Our charming cottage on three acres is located 8 miles south of Middleburg near the picturesque village of The Plains, VA. We are in the heart of Hunt Country (wine and horse country) in the foothills of the Appalachians - 50 miles west of DC. The home is perfect for a quiet getaway. Renovated thoughtfully, it retains its charm and 19th century stone foundation. The fully equipped kitchen and dining room have an open plan while the sunroom opens to a large deck overlooking the expansive lawn.
The location of the property is ideal for hiking (close to the Appalachian Trail), biking, and horseback riding. Artists will appreciate the rolling hills, historic architecture and miles of old stone fences. Enjoy the many surrounding wineries, antiquing, orchards and farm-to-table dining establishments nearby, or pack a picnic basket (yes, ask us and we'll provide a basket and blanket) and enjoy "Twilight Polo" every Saturday evening throughout the summer in The Plains' own Great Meadow where the VA Cup steeplechases are held annually. the farmer's market in The Plains is each Sunday spring to fall. Horse boarding and horseback riding lessons are possible across the street at Madcap Farm. History buffs will enjoy seeing Civil War battlefields in the area. The area has an interesting assortment of country folks and, well... very wealthy country folks! You'll find artists, farmers, businesspeople and even a few celebrities. We've found that all are friendly and it is a wonderful area in which to spend some time. Horses neighing or roosters crowing in the distance will remind you that it is time to relax and take in the country air.
  • We stayed in Rob and Lina's charming home for three days and wish we had more time there. They have restored the cottage using high quality materials and every inch has been touched by a love of the area, history and art. Good location to explore the area. The home is kept very clean. Lina quickly responded to any question I had. They advise getting there before dark which is the best thing to do. The driveway can be difficult to see at night especially going there the first time. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly want to book with them next time we are in the area!

    Lucy2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • From the second you enter the house you know that Rob/Lina put a lot of thought in decorating the home from beautiful furnishings to numerous handmade quilts neatly displayed behind glass armoires. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could think of and more! Our favorite place was the deck in the back where we relaxed as it overlooks a beautiful maintained huge fenced property and just listened to the peaceful sounds of Mother Nature! Quick 5 min ride to town where there is a grocery store and ABC store as well as quaint shops and restaurants. You will not be disappointed if you rent this beautiful farmhouse. Rob and Lina were quick with responding to any inquiries we had.

    Maura2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home in a beautiful location. Very hospitable family and left us lots of tips and suggestions for the area. Thank you!

    John2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful spot in the rolling countryside. The house "in person" exceeds what the photos show! Each room is filled with wonderful bit of interest-paintings, antiques, curiosities that together create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Lina was incredible responsive and offered great suggestions for fun spots to eat and hike in the area. I will absolutely stay her again the next time I am in the area.

    Ann 2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was a perfect place. I highly recommend staying here. Rob and Lina were great to work with and very easy to communicate with. A++++++

    Susan2015-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful is the best word I can think of to describe my stay. Really nicely renovated cottage in the middle of horse country. Clean, modern. Had use of the entire house. Less than 15 minutes from Middleburg. Near several wineries. Kristiane was easy to work with, extremely pleasant, very flexible time-wise. This place would work for a single or a couple.

  • Fantastic little house in a wonderful area. Super conveniently located, easy to find, and central to all of the great horse country attractions and wineries in the area. The house was the perfect size for me, my husband and our small dog. The kitchen was well stocked with every cooking utensil you could ever need. Steph was a wonderful host! She responds quickly and is attentive to her guests' every need! The house was clean, cute and comfortable, everything we could ever want in an airbnb!

    Stephanie2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Steph was a fantastic host- very easy to communicate with and accommodating. Her house was beautifully furnished and extremely cozy. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a few days out in the country.

    Marni2016-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Steph's cottage was AMAZING! It was absolutely perfect for my husband and my winery weekend in the country. It is impeccably decorated and SO comfortable- bed and couch! Steph made us feel so welcome with her convenient post it notes throughout the home to her friendly messages leading up to the trip. The cottage is conveniently located to ~5 minutes Marshall 'downtown' (4 antique shops, a bakery, restaurant and 7-11) and ~15 minutes to the main street and wineries in Middleburg. I would definitely recommend this home and vacation spot for couples looking for a wine weekend away! The views from the vineyards are gorgeous and comparable to CA! 50 West is not to be missed if going to the wineries. I cannot thank Steph enough for a hosting us! A much needed relaxing weekend in the country! Steph also made her box for the polo match available to us! So fun! If we are ever back in the area we will definitely be staying at the Horse Country Cottage again!

    Ashley2016-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • You must stay here! Steph' little home is one of the best Airbnb's that we've stayed in (and we travel a lot!). It's incredibly welcoming with beautiful furnishings, a kitchen that isn't lacking a single pot/pan/tool, and a very comfortable bed. The privacy is great and you're just a few minutes away from Middleburg to enjoy great restaurants, vineyards, & farmers markets. Also, from the time of booking to the moment we left, Steph was probably the most attentive & accommodating host we've had. We can't wait to come back!

  • This sweet little cottage was a perfect spot for a restful country weekend. Located right in between The Plains and Marshall, it was super convenient, and we had several great meals in both places. Only about a 10 minute drive from Middleburg as well. The cottage itself was impeccable - spotless and tastefully decorated. The bed was very comfortable, and there was also a very nice sleeper couch for our third guest. Steph was very communicative, and I never had a problem reaching her. In fact she checked in with me several times throughout our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. I would 100% recommend Steph's place to anyone looking for a cozy weekend retreat in the Middleburg area.

    Danielle2016-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • Steph's home is always a pleasure to stay in. Anything and everything you could possibly need is here. Beautiful and quiet but very close to fun things to do!

  • Steph's place was adorable and just what we were looking for. Very clean and cozy with everything we needed. The location was beautiful, and if it hadn't rained all weekend we would have spent some time around the fire-pit. Overall she did a great job communicating with us and accurately describing her house. Comfy bed and fully stocked kitchen. It was a great weekend escape and I would certainly return!

Light airy 1900s farm house on 94 acre farm, minutes from restaurants in Middleburg, The Plains and Marshall Virginia. Located within driving distance to Washington DC. Ez access to Great Meadow (Gold Cup Horse Races, Nations Cup Eventing, Twilight Polo), Middleburg Spring and Fall Races, Goodstone and Salamander Resorts. Close to award winning Virginia wineries including Boxwood, Greenhill, Three Fox, Delaplane, CANA, 50West, Chrysalis, Barrel Oak, RdV and many hard cider/distilleries.
Located on large horse farm in heart of Virginia Hunt Country on a quiet unpaved road. The house has 3 upstairs bedrooms and one bath (also upstairs). Updated kitchen with gas cook top, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, and Keurig. Living room with gas fire place. Central air/heat. Also has dining room and large sunroom off kitchen. Back of house offers a large deck and private backyard with fire pit. An air mattress is available UPON ADVANCE REQUEST for use in the living room. NOTE: wired and wireless internet is available however it is NOT suitable for streaming video. We use satellite-based internet which is suitable for email and basic web surfing / online shopping. Also, cellular access may be limited or unavailable at times in the farm house due to its location in a valley. Verizon cellular is stronger in the Middleburg area than ATT or Sprint. The farm house is located about 1/2 mile from Zulla Rd/Rt 709 on a county maintained dirt road. This road is accessible with a standard sedan or SUV, but we recommend leaving the Ferrari at home :-) As a traditionally built turn of the 20th century home this location is not suitable for guests with limited mobility: all bedrooms and the bathroom are located on the second floor (original wooden staircase).
The property is located in a small valley between Middleburg and The Plains and is crisscrossed by quiet country roads, perfect places to take your favorite pooch or pooches on a stroll, ride a bike, or just get lost in your own thoughts. Minutes away are the towns of Middleburg, The Plains, and Marshall that offer dining choices from hamburgers to haute cuisine (Goodstone Inn and Restaurant, Salamander Inn and Restaurant, Field & Main, The Rail Stop, The Whole Ox - Butcher Bar, The Front Porch, Red Truck Bakery, Gentle Harvest, The Red Fox, The Red Horse Tavern, The Side Saddle Cafe, Julien's Cafe and more!) About 20 minutes to Upperville, VA and Hunter's Head Tavern.
  • A lovely old farmhouse that has modern finishes. The farm is great to walk around and the gravel road by the house is a great walk as well. Wonderful area. The hosts are helpful and full of tips of places to go. Would stay here again

  • Loved this Airbnb! It was such a treat! I only wish I was in town for fun and not work so that I could enjoy it more. It was very clean, very easy to get to, and within easy distance to all the Hunt Country towns to enjoy.

  • The farmhouse was great, very well appointed and charming. I appreciated the extra touches: wonderful mattresses and linens and well equipped kitchen for the serious cook in our group. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

  • Fantastic place! Very quiet and beautiful place to retreat to at the end of the day. Hosts were very responsive and house had everything we needed. We chose this place because we needed a place to stay for a wedding. Very close to town of Middleburg, which is where the wedding was located. We hope to be able to come back again and enjoy the scenery!

  • Our group had a fantastic stay at Scott's farmhouse. We had plenty of space to relax and unwind. We spent a lot of time in the sunroom area and the entire property had great views of The Plains. The beds were extremely comfortable and it was nice to enjoy the fireplace on a cold night! The farmhouse itself has great rustic charm with modern conveniences and is very private. It was too cold outside for us to enjoy the back deck and fire pit but having those areas available will only further our desire to come back. Plus, the house is only about 10-15 mins away from downtown Middleburg, The Plains, and great local wineries. In addition Scott and Steph are tremendous hosts. They are extremely responsive and helpful offering local options and information. They made it a priority to make our experience awesome and they delivered! I highly recommend spending some time at Scott's place. You will not be disappointed and we will definitely be back!

    Jonathan2017-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful old farmhouse with new, comfortable, stylish furnishings (I loved my mattress), modern kitchen with everything we needed ( Keurig, blender, Jenn-Air range), and spectacular views. There were charcoal for the grill and logs for the fire pit. Our hosts checked in with us daily to be sure we had everything we needed. When we asked for recommendations for dining or activities, they responded immediately - and even provided websites. And there is so much to do in the area - wineries, restaurants, polo matches, shopping... It was just a great experience and we definitely will be back!

  • House was located on a country road on a farm. Excellent views and great privacy for the house to really enjoy your time there. Great outdoor setup with a fire pit and seating, which are great for those chilly nights during the fall. The host (Steph) provided excelled directions to the house, including the avoidance of a rather tricky road, which certainly helps if your passengers suffer from motion sickness. Steph also gave us a great list of places to try out on our weekend, including dining options and winery locations. We took full advantage of those tips and plan to use them on our future trips to the Middleburg area. They were great communicators and even helped us out when one of our guests left an item behind. The house was great and had a great sense of being a farm house. Plenty of modern (including a fantastic kitchen) mixed with older farm style. The beds were comfortable and the sitting areas downstairs had plenty of room to hangout with friends. Overall, we really enjoy our weekend at the house and would certainly look to come back in the future.

Located on a bucolic estate near the town of Middleburg, Virginia, the Milk House offers you the perfect stepping off point to explore the Virginia horse and wine country. The cottage was completely renovated in 2015.
The former Milk House was completely renovated in 2015 and looks out over horse paddocks, barns and the bucolic countryside. It contains a separate bedroom with queen bed, living room with couch and a large flat screen TV, and a renovated kitchen. The new bathroom has radiant floor heat, a walk-in glass shower and a classic look. The cottage has a patio with an outdoor dining table and chairs and a bench from which you can enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Middleburg and the surrounding area offers a unique way to experience the Virginia Hunt country. It is an important equestrian hub, with exceptional fox hunting, steeplechase races, polo, and other riding events throughout the year. Vineyards and wineries also offer a great way to see the countryside and most have tasting rooms to sample their wines. There are many antiques shops throughout the area as well.
  • The cottage is very comfortable and smartly decorated. Sitting on a large, beautiful horse farm it feels like a true escape but is so close to local sites and places to explore. We’ll be back for sure!

  • This cozy cabin is a great getaway for the weekend for those who live in the city. It allowed us to reconnect with nature and forget about work. The cabin is located in a beautiful farm, and is surrounded by friendly horses. Very short distance to Middleburg, The Plains, Marshall - where you can enjoy good food, wine, etc. Also close to Sky Meadows state park where you can go for a hike. We had a couple of incidents when we arrived in the cabin but John was quick to react and solve them. We look forward to our next stay.

  • Lovely place located on a beautiful horse farm. Very quaint home-looks even better than photos. Nicely furnished with updated bathroom. Bed was incredibly comfortable. The setting was absolutely amazing-a vast horse farm with plenty of places for nice quiet walks. John great about responding to questions and was very flexible.

    Janice2017-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 3 nights at the Milk House, long weekend for a wedding in Middleburg. This property was about halfway between Middleberg and The Plains, so a quick drive in either direction to restaurants. The Milk House is a great little cottage, very relaxing, and situated on a farm with horse stables and pens. Great little cabin, nice space for a couple and included a great little kitchen and a full bath. It even had a little patio where we could drink coffee and watch the horses in the morning. Easy check in / check out. My wife and I brought our bikes, as this is a fantastic area to ride with great scenery. Overall - a great experience and a place we would definitely rent again.

  • A warm and thoughtful host who clearly has rental experience and has thought of everything. The house was immaculately clean and absolutely beautiful. Small enough to feel cozy and safe yet roomy enough and well appointed to accommodate a longer stay. Next time I'm in the area I'd love to stay here again!

    Kelly2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Milkhouse is one of the best AirBNBs I have ever stayed in. John's comfortable, charming cottage is surrounded by scenic horse country views and great food, shopping, and nature options in Middleburg and The Plains.

    Austin2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • John's cottage offers a privilege money usually can not buy: the opportunity to stay on a beautiful large horse farm and really experience Virginia hunt country life. The grounds are gorgeous, on par with nearby Goodstone Inn (but at a much lower price). The Milk House is a cute and hip one bedroom apartment of a house, complete with a new bath, well-equipped kitchen, and laundry. We hope to return soon.

The surrounding areas have beautiful rolling hills with cows mooing in the background. Halfway between Middleburg and Marshall, Va., our cottage looks out over fields and horse barns, perfect for a romantic or family get away.
The original farm cottage, the little house was fully renovated in 2012 to include an ADA compliant bath in the master suite, and a second full bedroom/bath suite. The living room has a modern gas fire to keep the space cozy in chilly weather. Cook a meal in the gourmet galley kitchen and serve at the farmhouse table, cook on the outdoor grill or just enjoy an espresso on the porch overlooking fields and farm. Dogs will be considered on a per case basis, but we ask for an extra pet fee.
Rectortown is between Middleburg and Marshall, equidistant to both route 50 and I-66. This is Civil War territory, follow the historical markers, hike in the Shenandoah Valley or follow part of the Appalachian trail at nearby Sky Meadows. Equestrian events abound, whether it's fox-hunting, polo, steeplechase or hunters you follow.

The Old Winery was recently (2014) converted to accommodate guests in a dramatic, but very comfortable space. It is located on a vineyard, with magnificent views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and horse farms, in the picturesque village of Rectortown, Va., one-hour drive from DC and 40 min to Dulles airport. With 2 bedrooms and 2 ½ baths and comfortable, rustic charm, The Old Winery is perfect for an intimate family getaway. We will consider requests to host large parties for an extra charge.
The Old Winery is a large, barn-like structure, with 3-story ceilings and barn-style doors that swing open, leading to large patios and great views. It is fully air-conditioned and heated with new systems. Indoors, the main hall is set up for daily dining use with two wine-tasting tables and an array of comfortable lounge furniture. There is also a full bar and bar stools, fully stocked with glassware, an ice maker, and wine refrigerators. You will also find a foos-ball table and an electronic piano, which guests are welcome to enjoy. Off the side of the main hall is another entertaining space, the “oak barrel room”, now converted into a large TV and games room, with comfortable seating and another large dining (or games) table. This room has a 65” HD TV with surround sound and a DVD player (please bring your own DVDs), books and board games, great for entertaining kids while the adults have dinner in the main hall. The oak barrel room has large picture windows that overlook the woods and, in winter, a full-on view to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Behind the bar is a fully-stocked and equipped catering kitchen, including cutlery, dinnerware, pots & pans and serving platters. There is a variety of small appliances (blenders, coffee makers, pizza oven), as well as an industrial dish washer that runs a cycle in 3 minutes! Upstairs, you will find two fully-carpeted bedrooms, both with closets and modern bathrooms en suite. One bedroom is set up with a king bed, a desk, reading chair and two dressers. The other is set up with three twin beds, each with night tables, bed-side lamps and a dresser. The beds can be reconfigured into a king and twin, depending on guests’ needs. A country train passes nearby approximately 5-10 times/day. (Please note: the train makes noise for 60-90 seconds while passing, sometimes at night. Most of our guests find this charming, but for those who don’t, or who sleep lightly when windows are open, we understand and ear plugs are provided!) Outside the Old Winery, there is another wonderful entertaining space. There is a large patio with an enormous wood portico, complete with decorative lights and ceiling fans. The portico has tables and chairs to enjoy outdoor dining. There is also built in cabinetry and a zinc-topped table suitable for serving. Feel free to use the gas grill. There is an additional sitting area outside, with lounge chairs, sun umbrellas, and an outdoor fireplace. Beautiful views abound.
Vineyard and converted winery in the heart of Virginia horse and wine country.
  • Lovely place! I hosted my wedding at Marcelo's venue and it was beautiful. The indoor space was perfect with a bar area, full kitchen, guest bathroom, lounge area, TV room, etc. The venue's indoor/outdoor surround system for music was a bit tricky, but we eventually found a workaround. The bedrooms and bathrooms were great - extremely clean, modern, and with very comfortable beds. The trains were frequent but didn't bother us. One even went through during the ceremony, but guests found it to be hilarious and memorable (in a good way). Back patio area was perfect for an evening outdoors with low lighting, plenty of seating, and a fire pit for s'mores. Overall beautiful venue and I'm so happy we found it! Marcelo was also a wonderful host and constantly available for any questions. Check-in and check-out were extremely easy, as well.

A one-hour drive from Washington, D.C. and 45 minutes from Dulles International Airport, Magnolia Hill is a charming and lovingly maintained farmhouse dating back to 1880. Nestled into the rolling hills of Virginia’s horse, wine and hunt country, the house is a short distance from 18th century village of Middleburg, which CNN recently listed as one of the world's "Ten Romantic Destinations You Should Know About." Soak in the charm of country life from the covered front porch of Magnolia Hill, which gives way to picturesque views of an 40-foot magnolia tree and a rambling creek that crosses the front of the property. In warmer months fire up the BBQ grill and host a garden party in the large backyard, where you can watch the sun set behind an abandoned silo and cows that graze across the ridge of the adjacent property. In cooler months, roast marshmallows over an outdoor fire pit or strike up a fire and settle in by the hearth of one of the home’s two working fireplaces. The 2,176 square foot, sundrenched, yellow stucco home offers three comfortable and inviting bedrooms: a master with a queen bed, a guest room with a queen bed, and a second guest room with two twin beds. There are two and a half bathrooms; spacious kitchen, dining and living rooms; and a cozy den. Random plank hardwood floors dating back to the early-mid 20th century, antique furnishings, and a second staircase built as part of a two-story rear wing extension, lend extra character to the home. The towns of Middleburg, Upperville and The Plains, which offer a variety of farm-to-table restaurants, high end shops, local butchers, the National Sporting Library & Museum, and a world-class spa facility, all are within and a 15-20 minute drive. Dozens of other area attractions, including Sky Meadows State Park and Shenandoah State Park, are a 20-30 minute driving distance away. For lovers of the outdoors, the area offers spectacular vistas of rolling farmland and vineyards from meandering country roads—perfect for biking or afternoon drives. Nature enthusiasts can spot one of dozens of bird types, as well as deer, rabbit, fox and other animals; hike some of the region’s best trails in Shenandoah; or enjoy the ever-changing symphony of wild flowers that spring up alongside the road in the spring and summer. History buffs will enjoy learning about the historic district of Rectortown, in which the house sits. The Manassas Gap Railroad stop that John Rector, after whom Rectortown was named, was influential in creating still carries cargo trains by less than a quarter of a mile down the road. The old Rectortown railroad storehouse, visible from the stone bridge giving access to the property, is one of the many Civil War historic landmarks in the area. A list of links to area restaurants, attractions and events—including twilight polo matches, horse shows, vineyards offering dinner and wine pairings, and seasonal festivals and fairs—is available to renters upon request. The house has a flat screen TV with DVD player, as well as wifi suitable for basic web browsing and emails. (Feel free to download and bring your favorite movies and TV shows on your laptop or tablet.)

  • My husband, 16 month old and I spent a wonderful three days. Adele was responsive and great to work with, and the house was lovely. The layout of the house is a bit quirky - it's a historic home with a few small hallways and short stairwells connecting rooms, and when we arrived after dark it took us a few minutes to orient ourselves - but ultimately we found it to be comfortable and charming, with plenty of space (far more than the three of us needed). The kitchen is basic but large and very well-stocked. Sitting with our morning coffee looking out at a pasture with cows grazing was a perfect escape from DC. The temperature dove over the weekend but the house stayed warm and toasty. Nearby Marshall is home to the Red Truck Rural Bakery, where we spent an inordinate amount of time eating baked goods, and the Whole Ox across the street is a mecca for meat-eaters (which we are not, but Red Truck had plenty to offer us). We picked apples and pumpkins at Hollin Farm a mere 15-minute drive from the house, and hiked in gorgeous Sky Meadows State Park. The only issue we encountered all weekend was being unable to find the switch to turn off a floodlight outside, and Adele did what she could to help. Hope we can be back for a visit again sometime.

  • We stayed at Adele's home in August and enjoyed the gorgeous location, quaint space, and lovely decor. The detailed description of the house was accurate and appreciated, and Adele was gracious in ensuring all of my questions were answered. The kitchen was well appointed and our two young sons (ages 5 and 3) enjoyed roaming the space which held great character. We also enjoyed morning walks around the property searching for little creatures, of which my kids found in plenty (crickets, caterpillars, praying mantis, slugs, cicadas, etc.). Delightful for my boys, but easily avoided if you don't wish to partake in this activity!! It is mentioned to keep all food off the counter and for good reason. Ants came quickly even if a package was tightly sealed (cereal, crackers, etc.) so do heed Adele's advice on this. On one evening, our in-laws joined and there were 6 of us in the house. We found it difficult to find comfortable seating for all 4 adults, and suggested to Adele a space with a comfy chair/couch/loveseat. She was open and appreciative of all feedback. The amenities in the bathrooms were wonderful, the towels and beds comfortable, and the space extremely clean upon arrival. We have stayed in many vacation rentals and could tell right away the house is well loved! So many great things to do in the area… many spot on suggestions by Adele. We saw the "Flying Circus" airshow in Bealeton, rented a boat/license/fishing gear for a beautiful excursion on the lake at C.M. Crockett park, played on the playground and flew kites at Northern Fauquier State Park, enjoyed the food and activities at nearby Salamander Resort (zip lines and horseback riding) with awesome outdoor area for young kids to roam around while adults enjoy a cocktail, dined outside at Hunter's Head Tavern, and had a great morning excursion to Luray Caverns (around an hour drive to and from the house). All in all, a great experience!! Thank you Adele!

  • The stay was amazing, I have no complaints at all. The area was amazing and perfect for a get away weekend from the city. Both host were amazing about responding and helping us with anything we needed or wanted, we are very grateful again for letting us stay. It was truly home away from home. Thank you again

  • This is an excellent spot for a relaxing getaway. We spent the entire day in the amazing pool and on the patio. The space was spotless and full of amenities from pool floats to an outdoor fire table. We'll be back next summer!

  • Beautiful retreat, just as the pictures are showing, it's a great place to relax. The hosts were very friendly, I enjoyed talking to them, check in process was very easy and it was really nice to meet them. They have put in a king bed recently and it was comfortable. I enjoyed the coffee & snacks they had provided. Their house manual is very detailed and provided everything I needed. The shower is great, the decorations were beautiful. Overall a great experience! I highly recommend this place to other guests! Thanks so much for having me!

  • Stunningly gorgeous setting, hosts, apt, saltwater pool, wineries and great food places nearby, it was ridiculously awesome. This is our first 5* given for BNBs we have stayed at. We were accommodated beforehand with a special request, and were greeted upon our arrival by W. He showed us around, asked if we needed anything very sincerely, and lo and behold not five minutes later, we needed ice, and had it within minutes. Previous comments have covered most of the amenities (the bath/shower are equivalent to hotels I have stayed at in Rome). My wife had never played ping pong or air hockey, and playing them had us laughing so hard we were in tears. Such a GREAT place with GREAT hosts. We regretted not having booked for longer, but hope to be back soon. There was so much to do there and in the local area, that we didn't get to use the HUGE projection tv, but hope to next time.

  • Nice, complete, private space in the basement of a large home in a very nice upscale neighborhood. Amazing saltwater pool out back. Accommodating owners were helpful but out of the way that it felt like a hotel. Would return!

  • This home was perfect for our family holiday. There were 8 adults, for 5 days, and we had plenty of room to relax, cook, and play games, our favorite family past time. We even had an opportunity to watch Star Wars on the big screen downstairs. The only thing I would say is the gym was not very usuable, but it was a great area for long walks and runs.

YES! We serve BREAKFAST! Stillwaters is 12 acres on Lake Athalon, minutes from 5 wineries. The Cedar Room is perfect for couples or small families (including pets :) Special Rates for 3 or more nights. Hiking, Biking, History, LIVE music! 50 miles from DC. Phenomenal stars!
We call our home Stillwaters. Turn onto Janes Lane and come down to our 12 acres on Lake Athalon. Designed and built by Jeff in the 80's, the living room has great beams and a high loft with a front wall of windows and glass doors facing field and lake. Jeff planted the trees too, which have turned from mere whips into 40 footers. There are 2 labyrinths, woods, fields and quiet roads to wander. The nearest town, Marshall, has great pizza, good Chinese food, a diner and "Old Salem" a decent, affordable restaurant. Our friends at Barrel Oak Winery (Brian) and Cobbler Mountain Cellars (Laura) will also make you feel right at home. History buffs will enjoy reading signs of events from Civil War times. Stillwaters is 45 miles from Washington, DC and just 40 minutes from Dulles International Airport (ask if you need pick up or drop off). Stillwaters also has a recording studio and a stage. We host monthly concerts to support Stillwaters Foundation which is "building community and creating peace through music" (and where we donate your fee). If you'd like to sing around a campfire or try your hands in a drum circle let us know! We have 3 private rooms with 2 bathrooms. We can sleep up to 8 (queen and singles beds, and airbeds--it IS called AIR B&B :) We also love to host events: Stillwaters boasts an outdoor stage, 5 event tents, tables and chairs for 150. Jeff and I had our wedding here (and it was beautiful!) Come! Explore Virginia country, re-connect, re-treat, and rest. We look forward to meeting you here at Stillwaters. Mary Shapiro and Jeff Wolf
Quite, private country road. The lake brings Great Blue Heron, a variety of hawks, fox, deer, geese, and migratory swans. The stars are phenomenal.
  • thank you Mary for arested night and agreat breakfast

  • Mary and Jeff made this stay magical. Our arrival was super late, but not a problem for them. They welcomed us with a hug, hot beverages galore and amazing conversation. Not many airbnb hosts put the effort into their listings like these two do. Looking forward to visiting again in the future!!

    Nick2017-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Mary is an amazing host, replies back in timely matter, there is a small breakfast menu, so bring some cash! breakfast by Jeff was delicious. These are good hearted people they can offer so much more then needed. We played Chinese checkers all night and drank wine. The house overlooks a beautiful lake. Will recommend to all friends. So many wineries in the area to tour and taste.

    Joseph2016-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Mary and Jeff were wonderful hosts, they were very kind and flexible. We felt very comfortable and at home during our stay!

    Lisa2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts were incredibly welcoming and friendly individuals and the property was absolutely beautiful! Mary and her husband, Jeff, were very accommodating for my friend and I, to the point of helping cure my terrible (and obviously unplanned) migraine! We are already planning our next visit to Stillwaters!

    Anna2014-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Trip context - post business trip stay for a friend's wedding. Mary and Jeff are very gracious and helpful hosts. Their location is in a beautiful area of the Virginia countryside. The property does have a "retreat" feel to it because of quiet and calmness of the rural landscape. Internet works well for normal use. The room was clean and well appointed. One note of caution, if you are traveling at night, make sure you have a good GPS and working phone. The country roads are very dark and the road signs can be challenging. However, Jeff provides good directions over the phone.

    Thomas2014-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful place to stay! Mary & Jeff are warm & welcoming, and their house is perfect: nice, clean and so cozy on this cold rainy weekend! We got our own bathroom attached only to our room, which was really nice as I'm pregnant and have to get up in the night a lot. Comfy bed, friendly & quiet dog, great shower, and great people to be around. Couldn't ask for better! We'd definitely stay here again.

    Rachel2015-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • A nice quiet spot next to a lake, with a large lawn and well maintained grounds to explore. Jeff was friendly and helpful, and cooks a lovely breakfast. It's not very baby-friendly, with various construction projects going on around the house and property, and lots of knick-knacks. Dug is a lovely dog, but does shed a lot - bring your Claritin if you're allergic.

  • Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Breathtaking views of the mountain and nearby winery. It is a perfect escape from the city, only being an hour away from DC. Brian was very helpful when it come to recommendations and was a lovely host.

    Kimberly2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Pretty house that has a great layout in a very scenic location. We had a great time overall -- we cooked breakfast at the house and hung out in the beautiful backyard. The winery is walking distance. Our dogs may have had an even better time running around the large fenced backyard. Towels and linens were great. I stayed in the master bathroom, which was nice. However, my guests that stayed in the room with two beds complained about a strong odor and the shower in that room did not work. Otherwise, the house was great.

    Jarrod2017-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Brian's place over the NYE holiday and loved it. Fantastic house and perfect communication. Couldn't have been better. Highly recommend. We'll be back!

    Kim2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We hosted eight girls at a bachelorette party in Brian's large, lovely home. The kitchen is well-stocked for meals (and wine) at home. The four large bedrooms allowed us to spread out and provided enough beds for everyone on our trip. We had a tough time finding reasons to sit in each area of the house! TV room, two sitting areas in the living room, a lovely wood dining table, and the table outside overlooking Barrel Oak Winery. We loved sitting outside looking at the gorgeous views and gazing the Milky Way. Brian's place is a wonderful stay for a big group, and would be great for a couple trip, family trip, or another bachelorette/girls reunion.

    Katherine2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home, amazing views, this place made for a great weekend getaway to celebrate my wife's birthday with friends. Private and secluded, this was the perfect weekend retreat, in walking distance to Barrel Oak and other nearby vineyards. The home was clean, beautifully furnished, and large enough to spread out and not feel crammed in. Very pleased with our experience. Thanks Brian!

    Carter2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Brian is a fantastic host. He was incredibly helpful with directions, made check-in easy, and was so hospitable. He even got a bone for our dog! Brian's recommendations for the town were perfect. We went to several of them and he was spot on. Brian's home is beautiful. The pictures don't do it justice. The home is large, ideal for a family or group of friends, and has all the amenities you could possibly want. The backyard is huge which was great for our dog. The home is located on Brian's vineyard (make sure to get some wine!!) which is absolutely beautiful. There are horses, llamas, and pigs. It's a great property to walk around. The backyard has a grill and large table, perfect for grilling for a group. Brian has a section of the house but his entrance is completely separate and there is a closed door between the section of the home we stayed in and where he is. We had the entire home to ourselves and it was completely private. Brian has a dog, Frannie, who is the sweetest pup. Overall, we had an incredible time. Definitely recommend staying at Brian's home. We will absolutely be back! Thank you, Brian!!

    Ashley2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • The house is perfect for hosting an event. It has large open spaces that allow for guests to wonder and not feel cramped. The views are spectacular. Lovely home and close to the winery which had a very festive environment and very good wine.

  • My wife, two young children (ages 1 and almost 3), and their three grandparents had a wonderful time at the Country House. The home is secluded and peaceful and the grounds are even nicer than the pictures. Our kids loved playing on the swing, looking for fish in the pond, and seeing rabbits hop around. The house itself is also beautiful, with a large kitchen to enjoy homemade meals, comfy couches, and several porches and decks to sit, chat, and enjoy the views. It's an easy drive to downtown Marshall, where we had good food at Red Truck bakery, Gentle Harvest, Marshall Diner, and Joe's Pizza. It was a great family getaway. Thanks for a great stay!

  • Mike and Sara have a beautiful home in the perfect setting. The house is clean, spacious and well maintained. It is nearby all the main attractions of the area (Middleburg, The Plains, Upperville) but just far enough away to enjoy the serene setting. Both Mike and Sara were friendly, helpful and welcoming throughout the booking process and stay. I will definitely be going back again!

    Sarah2015-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Mike's house is a beautiful, recently-renovated hidden gem near the Shenandoah national park. It's spacious yet cozy for our group of 7. We really enjoyed our time there. Highly recommended for any groups who are in town for a weekend of hiking. Did I mention that there is a pond within their 8-acre compound? A lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of city life just by itself!

  • If you are looking for a relaxing retreat in the Virginia countryside not too far from DC or Northern VA but close to the wineries - this is your place!! A group of us came from the DC area to send off and celebrate friends who are moving away. We arranged for wine tasting in the Middleburg area and then spent our time realign in the Country House. The grounds are spacious and lovely for little walks and bird watching. I think we most enjoyed sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs and listening to the water in the little creek nest to the house. We brought our own food and had no problem preparing our meals in the large well-equipped kitchen. Mike and Sarah were easy to deal with and very helpful wen we had problems with the airbnb website. The pictures do not do the house and property justice!! I would definitely go back!

The Grotos Grove is a destination by itself and serves a very convenient base of operations to experience the regions many activities/events with Blue Valley and Barrel Oak Vineyards only ¼ mile away.   The house was completely restored in 2016-17 with large modern kitchen, and 3 full baths and 2 half baths;  2 master bedrooms, 2 bedrooms and a loft. One of Washington's top interior decorators furnished the home specifically with the idea of group/family use while maintaining its historic charm.
The Grove is located in Delaplane where John Marshall, the former United States Supreme Court Chief Justice who grew up at Oak Hill Mansion next door. The Grove was actually built by John Marshall for his sister.  The town of Marshall (just five minutes away) is named after the former Chief Justice. The historic and popular towns of Middleburg, Warrenton, Paris and Upperville are all easy 15-20 minute drives.   The Grove can truly be your home away from home with all the comforts and quality, no more hotels who are regular visitors to the area! Please note that the Grove is located near I66 traffic can be heard. The house is quiet with it's stone walls. The positive is that you are just off the service road and fast travel to the vineyards and town of Marshall and great for cyclists as you are immediately along one of popular routes according to Potomac Pedalers.          Fauquier County is among the finest horse country in Virginia. Some of the most beautiful farms in the county are nearby. The Orange County hunt, sometimes comes in sight of the town when hunting foxes. It is not uncommon to see horse trailers and vans parked on Main Street of Marshall. Hounds and horses abound in this area.  However it is also a great place for writers, actors politicians and other well known people to live quietly and anonymously.   As a result, there are many new restaurants and local butcher’s, bakers and markets establishments to enjoy year round.       In addition the home sits on 10 private acres to include a nice hiking/running trail around the perimeter.  The kitchen and the dinning area are designed for great gatherings and there’s a nice patio out the side to enjoy the agricultural setting of the area and boasts a nice fire pit.  The large high ceiling living room is perfect for events such as private recitals, acting and story telling and yes even watching sporting events on TV.  The famous round room offers another quite place for discussion and reading. The game room underneath provides indoor activities for all ages.  The internet café/wine tasting room provides a setting to enjoy all the samples of the nearby vineyards (Barrel Oak and Blue Valley actually within walking distance – but not recommended) to conduct your own tasting.          The Grove is located in one of the prettiest and popular cycling areas you will find in the Northern region of Virginia.   Consequently, the County hosts many cycling events from the Spring to the Fall.  These popular rides pass by the grand estates and orchards of Virginia's Hunt Country, and following the spine of the "mysterious" Mount Weather and down along the bottom of the ridge line of the Appalachian Trail.  The Grove is located just off RT55 which is part of all the key rides so you don’t have to drive and park just get on your bike and GO!  - And for those you like to hike, Sky Meadows State Park offers great scenic hiking trails that connect with the Appalachian Trail.
  • We had a fantastic time in wine country. The house itself was beautiful and immaculate. It was better than expected. I would definitely come back for another visit.

  • Really enjoyed our stay. I would have rated it as Great except for a few technical issues that Karl was really responsive in helping resolve. Enjoyed the area, particularly the Meadery next door and the local town of Marshall.

  • We gathered family from various locations on the east coast over the course of a week, and the house was a good location. It is an old house but recently upgraded with modern conveniences, including a beautiful and nicely appointed kitchen. It is close to the little town of Marshall which has a few gourmet grocery options with local produce as well as a full Food Lion grocery store, which suited us perfectly. Centrally located to several local wineries. Herb garden was delightful with a wonderful basil plant. Lots of outdoor sport toys including a badminton net and frisbees. A pair of young deer came by each morning while I sat on the patio enjoying my coffee. The only negatives of the house is the proximity to Rt. 66, so we could sometimes hear traffic on the highway from the house. On the other hand, the proximity could be a positive attribute in that it took my son just 55 minutes to get there from DC on a Sunday morning. It was also only 45 minutes from Dulles airport.

  • Was at the Grove for a family reunion over the long weekend. We were 19 people and the house was big enough to accommodate all of us comfortably. Karl was very patient before we checked in and patiently answered the tons of questions that we had. Check-in and check out was also very smooth considering there are no keys to worry about. The house itself is massive and wonderfully equipped with indoor games like pool, ping pong and foosball and outdoor games available as well to occupy everyone. The kitchen is very spacious and very well equipped to handle large groups. All the bedrooms and living areas were very clean and well maintained. Probably an extra bathroom would have helped though. Otherwise a fantastic place for large get toegethers and will definitely visit again for future reunions.

  • I LOVED my stay at The Grove! The house is very spacious, with plenty of room for all 13 of us to spread out and relax. It's the perfect venue for a weekend retreat. We really enjoyed preparing meals in the large kitchen and eating at the long dining room table. The heated floors in the bathroom were an excellent touch and made my stay that much better! I love this house and I highly recommend booking here.

  • Karl's house truly is spectacular, as the Air BnB add says. Karl answered questions quickly leading up to the stay and then our entire group loved the house and location (even took some time to skip over to BOW). We had a club retreat at his house and it had everything we needed in some beautiful countryside. Thanks Karl!

  • AMAZING spot for my husband's 40th birthday weekend. We had about 10 people staying the night and 23 or so for a big BBQ. It was absolutely perfect. The kitchen and dining area were among the favorite spots (although it's hard to choose). Incredible furnishings and cool to know the large dining table was made from pines on the property. Craftsmanship plus. Perfect for a large party of folks. The kitchen offered every appliance and cookware needed. Double ovens fantastic. And BBQ in back was great. The rooms, beds and all couches were extremely comfortable. Plenty of space. The great room was perfect for our kids and escaping to read a book or work on computer. We had about 6 kids at the BBQ and 2 staying the night. There was plenty to do. The game room was a hit with ping pong, etc, the large yard was paradise for the running and the blow up pool we brought along. There is also a volleyball net and they provide other outdoor "toys". Although we brought the pool, we probably didn't need to bring all the toys we did. As far as wineries go, from the gate you can visibly see blue valley and barrel oak is right beyond that. That access made our wknd plan that much easier. And we loved blue valley. We live in DC, and this couldn't have been more of an unbelievable find for our over the top wknd celebration. The house, the land surrounding it, and the tranquility were top notch. Before we left the house, we vowed that we would make this annual.

  • Manual is a thoughtful and accommodating host. The home is beautifully appointed with so much detail. My place is close to Washington DC...mountains..Fauquier County horse country with many vineyards, parks, art and culture, restaurants and dining, great views. You’ll love my place since it is close to town of Warrenton 5 minutes and 45 minutes to nations capitol., the high ceilings, the location, the people, the ambiance. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), and big groups.
Cottage is five minutes from town and close to Washington DC. Very private and secluded yet a few blocks to shopping and restaurants. It had a cathedral ceiling and great views of the pasture and farm. It has a massive brick fireplace and gas logs. Outdoor kitchen with two grills...one gas and one with natural burning wood. The large gourmet kitchen features ALL CLAD cookware. Wine rack and bar in. Otha kitchen and large great room.

  • My friends and I were in town for a wedding and had a wonderful stay at Jeff's. He is very warm and accommodating, the house is beautiful and had lots of space for our group, and the location was convenient to the the wedding venue, wineries, and other sites in the area. Above all we loved the outdoor space at Jeff's and the relaxed vibe at the house. We would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks for everything Jeff!

  • Jeff was a fantastic host - so kind and welcoming! My friends and I had flown across the country for a wedding in the neighboring town of Middleburg and booked Jeff's place for two nights. The accommodations were spacious and super comfortable. We were especially happy to each have our own bathrooms. Aldie and the surrounding towns are stunningly beautiful, as is Jeff's home. I would recommend a stay here to anyone planning a visit to the area!

    Brianna2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin and Jeff are great. Perfect setup when traveling with a small group as we each had our own little suite . Jeff was available for any questions that we had but at the same time very respectful of privacy. (not that we would have minded him hanging out with us--we actually tried) We are already planning a trip back =)

  • Jeff's place is appointed with comfortable beds and is in a beautiful, scenic setting. Jeff is very accommodating, warm and friendly. Our family had a wonderful time in the quiet, serene setting in the hills of Aldie. Deer were out every morning! The drive into town is quite beautiful and easy and the antique stores were abundant. A definite return on our list if we need a quiet refuge again.
