Temple
“It is one of the most important preserved Early Christian monuments on the Greek territory, and even the largest in size. According to tradition, the original building of this church was the work of the Byzantine Emperor and Saint Constantine to fulfill the wish of his mother, St. Helen. At this point it is stated that during the voyage of King Helen to the Holy Land, due to a great sea disturbance, the ship that was forced to flee to Paros. There, praying for St. Helen to the Virgin Mary, patron of Constantinople, she completed her journey to build a magnificent church dedicated to the Assumption. This tomb was built by Constantine's son Constantine, building a three-aisled basilica around the 4th century. Eventually, with the various modifications and additions, the building of Ekatontapyliani now became a blended architecture with early Christian, Byzantine and even post-Byzantine architectural elements, which were occasionally added to form an ideal study. Considering that the early Christians chose sites of ancient temples with the building materials of which they built their own temples, the Ekatontapyliani complex also includes marble parts from antiquity, thus highlighting a continuity from that time to the present day.”

“Located in Chora, the Paraportiani Church is the most photographed church in Mykonos and it’s easy to see why. This picturesque church combines beauty and history and it is actually consists of five separate churches attached all together: the four churches (dedicated to Saint Eustathios, Saint Sozon, Saints Anargyroi and Saint Anastasia) are all on the ground and constitute the base of the fifth church that has been built on top of them. Construction began on the church complex in the mid 1400s. Its white walls, typical of the area, contrast beautifully with the stunning Mykonos sky to make a photographer’s dream.”

“Saint George beach is and has always been the most popular beach in Naxos. It lays south-west of the capital, Naxos Town, and is easily accessible on foot from almost every part of the capital. It took its name after the chapel of Saint George, built at its northern end. The beach is usually calm since it is well protected from the northern winds. It has shallow, warm waters so it is widely preferred by families with young children because it offers a great degree of safety. It is very well organized with many umbrellas and sun-beds for rent.
