“This is Santa Caterina del Sasso hermitage carved in the rock. It is a beautiful place on Lake Maggiore. You can get there by boat or by car. You will park on top of the mountain and walk the many steps down to the lake (or simply take the elevator). It is run by monks and there is a monastery and a church with the remains of the hermit. ”

“With its 51 kilometers in total of trails and trekking paths, Monte Generoso will satisfy everyone's desire for nature and truly breathtaking landscapes, from the most expert hikers to the less trained. Easily reachable from both Italy and Switzerland, Monte Generoso will give a surprise to those who manage to reach its summit: surrounded by landscapes of indescribable charm and hidden amidst the green of the mountains, the Stone Flower by architect Mario Botta does peeking out from the top of a rocky promontory.”

Scenic Viewpoint
“This real locus amenus directly overlooks Lugano and offers visitors a breathtaking panoramic view that embraces both the urban center and the lake of the Swiss capital, all remaining surrounded by the naturalistic pre-Alpine context. The beauty and charm of this panoramic terrace have earned it a permanent place among the most beautiful places in Italy according to the FAI (Italian environmental fund). The Swiss side is decidedly harsh and steep and has a precipice of almost 1000 thousand meters which leads directly to Lake Lugano while the Italian side does not stand out particularly from the plain and is sweet and woody. Probably the best balcony in Italy!”

“Santa Caterina del Sasso Ballaro ist ein Kloster in der italienischen Gemeinde Leggiuno in der Provinz Varese. Das Kloster, das Ziel vieler Wallfahrten ist, liegt direkt am Lago Maggiore, und ist wie viele ehemalige Einsiedeleien an einer unzugänglichen Stelle an einem sehr steilen Berghang erbaut.”
