Bars and nightlife in Wake County

Top bars

Coffee Shop
“There are three locations of this creative coffee shop and roastery in Durham, but the closest is straight down Geer St. Try one of their creative drinks, including a wide selection of hot chocolates. This is a lovely place to sit and take in the Durham scene. After your coffee, you can stroll around the neighborhood and visit Fullsteam Brewery, browse local goods at The Mothership, or walk to the Durham Farmers’ Market. Pro-Tip: arrive early on Saturday to beat the line. Recommended: The Dr. Durham Latte, or check out the Lakewood location for made-to-order churros!”

Brewery
“Casual bar in the same building as the brewery itself (you can tour during the daytime). Fullsteam often hosts trivia nights and community events and serves small plates, too. Recommended: A wide selection of arcade and board games.”

Asian Restaurant
“Delicious Asian dishes with a twist. Their sister restaurant gets all the attention now adays (brewery bhavana), but this place is where it all started. Try the spicy green drink!”

Bakery
“Just go! A bakery designed to make you want more. Great food for lunch too! Inside and Outside is exploratory. ”

Brewery
“Ponysaurus Brewing Co. is a forward-thinking, backward-tasting brewery, creating beers that are meant to be savored, appreciated, contemplated, philosophized, studied, nuzzled, and mindfully guzzled. The brewery, taproom and outdoor beer garden buzzes with activity in warm weather. Try the Biere de Garde, it’s our favorite. Kids and pets welcome, so daytime visits can skew a bit Romper Room.”

Bar
“If you want to treat yourself, go here. An out-of-this-world tapas place, you can have a whole range of experiences from a quick snack and drink to a full-on dinner. Everything is delicious, the space is romantic and transporting, and the servers are friendly and willing to guide you on your tapas journey. They also have an incredible selection of sherry. Recommended: Warm Olives, Fresh Cheese with Pepper Jelly, Artichoke Salad, Patatas Bravas, Pan con Tomate. I could list the entire menu!”

Steakhouse
“This is THE iconic steakhouse in the RTP area!!! It is a bit pricey, but you won't be disappointed. Well decorated and highly praised. Live music via a pianist on the top floor in the bar's lounge. Special diner prices if you eat in that area. Celebrations are a normal occurance there. They supply a free mini pound cake for your birthday or anniversary that is awesome. They are also well known for their award winning "Chess Pie". Yum! I would suggest making reservations!”

“These guys have shows just about every night, if not several artists per night. If there is no performance on a day, that's just a very rare unlucky day.”

Concert Hall
“I debated whether to put this in the Fun for Everyone or Fun for Adults Only category, but then I remembered that we took our kid to see Charlie and The Chocolate Factory here, and we all had fun. So, this gets filed here. DPAC is the region’s premier spot for Broadway productions, large concerts from well-known artists, impossibly expensive Hamilton performances, etc. If you’re not already here for a DPAC visit, check the schedule and see if there’s anything you’re into.”
